So just you know, in the area where I live in North Carolina where Hurricane Florence was supposed to pass right over us, and everyone was hyping it up so much and that we were going to have so much flooding... Well guess what... We just go rain for the day, in the morning it was MILD tropical storm conditions but as the day progressed it eased down to a gentle rain. And yeah we have some downed tree branches and some people lost power.

I'm not saying that I'm not greatful that we didn't get hit by the severity of the storm that had been predicted but I am disappointed that I didn't lose power for a few hours...

But I do know that people in the Charlotte area and by the coast got hit pretty hard since I did run into someone who did have to evacuate. They had lost everything. So i do find myself fortunate.

Anyway that's all I have to say about this.

Alright so I watched a documentary about hurricanes in class the other day and there was a guy that just sat on his porch and watched shit get destroyed during a hurricane and during passing period I went up to my friend and said “that guy who fucked with the hurricane was sick” and he responded “i WanNA FuCK A HuRriCcAnE”

AND MY FAVORITE TEACHER WAS RIGHT BEHIND HIM AND I JUST RAN AWAY,.. help,...,. I can’t look at her

I’m angry at the priorities of news around here (meaning in Germany). In Yemen 600.000 people are battling Cholera and for many it is a battle against death as about 5 million people in Yemen are seriously starving. In South Sudan the majority of people are starving as well. In Myanmar the Rohingya face a possible genocide by military and the government of Aung San Suu Kyi doesn’t object. Mexico and Guatemala had a very severe earthquake this week that killed people and destroyed a lot. Southern Europe is drowning in rain, after they had been without water for far too long, resulting in floodings that kill people. Not to mention all the wars like the one against ISIS that are still ongoing.

The hurriccanes (two done, at leat 3 to follow) hit the whole Caribbean and not simply the USA. Many Caribbean islands - most namely Barbuda - have been flattened. The people have no possibility to leave or go to a safer place. Many people died. For others their whole lives have been destroyed and the islands don’t have the means to compensate them. Whole countries have to basically start at zero. There are no houses, no shelter, only chaos. There’s a imminent threat of cholera dn other diseases there.

I’m sure I missed or forgot about other parts in the world and other people.

I’m happy that all of this is meantioned here, but most of the time it is one article every other week and then they move on to different areas. Or better ONE other area.

Meanwhile we get livestreams and live-updates about the hurricanes hitting Florida. People are dying by the douzens by natural catastrophes, but the breaking news is that people in the USA are without electricity. It’s only sensationalist fear-mongering, while ignoring other people. Don’t get me wrong. It is severe. It is a horrible situation even for such a rich country as the USA. Every person that lost something or has to worry about their home, their dear ones, their safety and their belongings, has my heartfelt sympathy. But the USA aren’t the only country in the world that faces catastrophes - man made or natural - right now. There are countries that definitely need our attention and our money. There’s place for more than one country on the news.

The last Inn on the sea Rodanthe , when the house was first built in the 1980s, then was over 400 feet of sand separating it from the Atlantic , with piles set in concrete 14 feet deep . over the years extreme coastal erosion from hurriccanes and ocean @WeHeartIt

My nurses are calling today 'Independence Day' because I'm supposed to be free of needing anyone after all the work I've put in. While that is probably the case, I'm so glad I haven't walked alone for even a moment of this journey. So many people have attempted to express upon me the seriousness of this situation, how difficult it can be for others, and how many simply aren't strong enough to hold on while this little hurriccane rips through my small slice of existence. Much like one of my favorite characters of literature, I am ever grateful for those that have remained steady, and held on tight when so many have let go long before now. There's something to be said for 'true colors,' 'love,' and 'steadfast friendship' somewhere in here, but I'll leave at this: ALWAYS.
