I absolutely love the Ace Attorney: Investigations timeline. It's just Miles Edgeworths no good very bad couple of days. That man goes through it in this game.

AAI spoilers underneath (like the entire story)

Like timeline wise, Edgeworth is on a plane with earthquake-like turbulence. After trying to hype himself up to move on from his trauma and finally use an elevator, he opens the elevator doors to immediately find a dead body. He then gets accused of killing said person. After proving his innocence and arriving at the airport, he then helps with a kidnapping at an amusement park only to get knocked out and kidnapped himself. After solving the whole kidnapping thing, Edgeworth returns to his office late at night only to find another dead body and is then held at gunpoint. The next case Edgeworth argues for hours about diplomatic immunity. Larry and Oldbag are there. It's almost 3am.

He just wanted to watch the Steel Samurai stage show :(

Hi!! Maybe you've answered this before but I did a quick look through your blog and didn't see it so I hope you don't mind me asking - on your post about Jewish fantasy books you said you have a lot of problems with a deadly education; can you talk more about those problems? I'm very curious to hear your thoughts, especially since I'm assuming from the context of the post that they're Jewish problems. But even if they're not im still curious! I just finished a reread of the schoolmance series so it's on my mind

I was wrong!

I initially made the post as people were shouting their recommendations at me -- and I was constantly getting stuck at chapter three of A DEADLY EDUCATION. I loved El but the narration wasn't grabbing me compared to Novik's previous novels.

So during a light winter storm, I forced myself to sit down with my library copies and read them all. Reading it as a deconstruction of HP through a fandom lenses (as opposed to thinking it would stylistically be similar to UPROOTED and SPINNING SILVER), changed my opinion. THE SCHOLOMANCE books are very much a conversation about capitalism and complacency. (Whereas, initially, I was expecting whimsy.)

I wouldn't exactly recommend the trilogy as Jewish fantasy novels, but I do recommend them as a deconstruction of the genre!

All of them, no exceptions, will always prioritize artisanal burgers over big franchises like BK or McDonalds and this is just canon we're on the same page about it right?

Mirassol likes a good old chimi but she's also super into a classic brie cheeseburger, Miles G loves chimi too but prefers a spicy double burger

Gwen is a huge burger lover (she likes it especially when Hobie's mom makes 'em) and her and Hobie have a shared favorite for pizza burgers but her second option would be a big chicken burger or a bacon burger

Hobie as I said before highly prefers pizza burgers, they're his favorite and just like Gwen he'll eat any type of burger his mama makes cuz his mama is great and her food is too but scrawny as he is once in a lifetime he'll eat the whole thing. He always shares his with his friends but they're now making him eat more and soon enough he'll be just fine with eating one entire burger (angst material prob)

Pavtir's is probably a spicy Indian lamb burger and Gayatri's since I headcanon her as vegan i believe that would be a veggie indian-style burger (I've seen some pretty mouthwatering recipes recently so I had to add this)

Peni likes a chili burger with wasabi ketchup

Ganke is a burger addict too and his favorite is a nduja burger but he also loves a vegan cheeseburger (my boy is lactose intolerant)

My sweet girl Margo <3 she's a monster when it comes to eating fast food you look at this cute little girl and think "she ain't eating that much" but she is and she'll steal some bytes (haha humor) from her partner's. She likes to say she doesn't have a favorite and if you insist she'll probably say something basic like a classic burger but she loves your good old bacon burger and I would like to say it's her personal fave

Bonus Mike likes a double cheeseburger but he hates cheddar (also a lactose intolerant but since is it holding anyone back right? He's allergic to cats but had four and got adopted by Nora who counts as at least three and this is totally not me just dumping random facts about me at my oc's)

In the spirit of this quaint men-on-motorcycles-enthusiast blog I went to watch The Bikeriders and had my heart quietly broken by a slow but softly luminous movie. Something about men's expansive lives and how movement is ultimately the seed from which all freedom grows. When you see Tom Hardy's Johnny slowly strain and crack under the realization that something he created out of simpler desires is now turning into a hydra headed problem he can't seem to solve, you understand something about existing in a world where your need for belonging is a vulnerability that eventually gets you.

When he asks Austin Butler's Benny about taking over the gang from him he's submitting himself to someone he trusts. Their faces slowly coming together, closer and closer, in the dark with just the incandescent glow of the streetlamps on the edge of their faces, like burning paper. How Benny is too stubborn to understand that its not a favor being asked of him, but a declaration of something deeper from Johnny. What a beautiful narrative choice it was to have a woman recollect this entire story of this rag-tag group of men, who herself was affected by the atmosphere she found herself unable to get out of. I love that it works like a non-judgemental narration of how quickly boyhood bluster breaks down when real life circumstances get rough. How difficult it was for Johnny to keep the community together because he didn't expect it to be anything more than a quaint cosplay when he started it to escape boredom. At the end where Benny finally gets the news of Johnny's murder, something done to usurp his frayed authority, and he returns to Chicago and breaks down on Kathy's stoop, I found myself crying alongside him.

The movie was clearly a labour of love from someone who had deep fascination with the lives of these men and with motorcycles. Wild that a two wheeled liquid fuel powered machine has been the site of so many meditations on masculinity and rebellion and anger and power and authority. I don't know if I want to revisit it but I am glad I got to watch it in the time period of my life that my deep fascination with bikes and men's lives makes it so much more valuable to me.

This week has started in a quite productive way. I got a lot done on this gloomy day and my energies were pretty good, I hope I will be able to keep it up for the rest of the week, because the more I get done now the more I'll be able to rest before my new classes start in November. I am forced to stop studying earlier because I have to go to the dentist, but I am satisfyed with what I got done. I even started crocheting again, yesterday I definitely struggled to work on the chain for the second sleeve of my cardigan, but in the end I made it, and now I can midlessly work while listening to podcasts for a while.
