Scientists finish 100% of "Human Genome" sequencing after 20 years of cracking first human gene-code. Researchers at the Telomere-to-Telomere (T2T) consortium, an international collaboration, have sequenced the first truly complete human reference genome. #science #DNA #Genomics #humangenomeproject #humangenome #sciencetechnology #dna #humandna https://www.instagram.com/p/CR3PjdmLKFM/?utm_medium=tumblr

omg so my dna test results are in, I was expecting majority western&central Europe(I'm Dutch) BUT as it turns out my regional ancestry(500-10.000 years ago) is actually mostly Great Britain&Ireland(yay!!) #humangenomeproject #humangenome #anglophile #dna #nationalgeographic

The first draft of the human genome, a complete map of human genetic information, was published on this day in 2001. But remember, it's just a first draft, there's still room for improvement.

International sequencing drive will involve reading genomes of 1.5m species.
The total volume of biological data that will be gathered is expected to be on the “exascale”, more than that accumulated by Twitter, YouTube or the whole of astronomy.
An ambitious international project to sequence the DNA of every known animal, plant and fungus in the world over the next 10 years has been launched.

The building blocks of life! While we might not be able to clone dinosaurs (and really, we're probably better off for it), we do have a pretty nifty program mapping the various genomes of the human DNA (and have discovered some pretty cool genetics sources for a lot of our diseases and disorders in doing so, teaching us more about our biology and hereditary malfunctions). Today is #NationalDNADay, marking the completion of the #HumanGenomeProject. You can learn more about this international endeavor at Genome.gov ...And speaking of a bunch of nerds in one spot learning cool stuff, we're going to be at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles this July! Unfortunately, dragons, much like dinosaurs (...are they dinosaurs?), eat a lot of meat, and and they take up a bit of space. Also, they tend to eat people, particularly in transit, so this can be an expensive endeavor for us as well. You can help us get the Drake to the Con by donating at GoFundMe.com/BlakesDungeon or check out our website for awesome shirt designs or sign up to get an issue of BDQM! Maybe we can score an interview with Dr. Wong while we're out there... He was pretty cool. (at Blake's Dungeon Quarterly Magazine)

A Brief Description of Human Genetics
Most people realize that is our genes, not our jeans, that are the fundamental ingredient that determines who we are.
That’s not to say that our jeans say nothing. Just watch television. They determine, at different times and in different places, our social standing, coolness, sex appeal, political stance, need to fit in, indifference, and whether someone else buys our clothing for us.
But human genes are really cool. I’m serious.
Tumblr media
Just look at them.
Most of us who managed to stay awake during science classes know that our DNA takes the form of a double helix. That fact was discovered by biologist James Watson and physicist Francis Crick in 1953.That was a hell of a feat, considering you can’t see them with a microscope.
They had to bounce x-rays off crystallized DNA, and analyze where the x-rays landed on photographic film. They they did a bunch of math to figure out what shape created that pattern.
It turned out to be a series of molecules strung together into long strands like beads on a necklace, with the two strands elegantly twisting around each other. Those molecular, strung-out bead-like things are really sugar molecules attached to phosphate molecules.
The two strands are held together by the really important stuff: four molecules known as bases.
Bases are kind of the opposite of acids.
Acids, of course, can eat through things like metal or or skin, or simply add that sting you get drinking orange juice or sticking your tongue on a lead-acid battery. Acidic solutions have more hydrogen ions ( H+) than water, H2O, which is neutral. Bases have fewer H+ ions than water.
Cytosine:
Tumblr media
Cytosine for example, is: C4H5N3O -- four carbons atoms, five hydrogen atoms, three nitrogen atoms. Guanine is C5H5N5O, Thymine is C5H6N2O2,  and Adenine is  C5H5N5. The genetic alphabet is C G T A.
These bases are always linked in pairs. C-T or A-G. Which means the alphabet that spells out who you are is made up of just two letters. But there are about 3 billion of those letters describing who you would be when you were born. They determined not only how tall you would become, but also how smart or athletic or introverted or extroverted you would be, or whether you wold be prone to certain diseases or early senility, or, perhaps (who knows?) how much free will you have.
The really amazing thing is that we are just now starting to figure out how to read that language.
And that’s where things get really interesting.
NEXT: Writing out the book of humanity.

Why is Human Genome project so significant?
Tumblr media
From past, human is curious to know about genetic structure and how every individual has the unique mechanism. To clear all curiosity and doubts the Human Genome project was discovered. Genetic testing helps to predict some health risks which are surely curable. With the help of the best genetic testing, people can easily identify health risks and also try to cure them as soon as possible.
