If you bring in a picture (or multiple pictures) it helps with COMMUNICATION. If you struggle with trying to explain what you want out of your haircut, showing us pictures helps us ask more specific questions about your desired style to make sure we are on the same page.

Imo, the whole point of going to a hairdresser is to get what you want on your head. Like the person before me said, sometimes we might make suggestions so the desired style looks good on you, or works with your hair texture better.

A good hairdresser will be able to talk through your consultation without pictures, but pictures help get us on the same page faster.

I regularly have clients that come in with character references (both irl and animated) and we make it work!

If your hairdresser is judging you for your reference pics or never seems to actually give you what you want without explaining why it can't happen (or even then!) It might be time to look for a new stylist that can get you to where you need to be.
