Researching for a S2 starting Ted Lasso fic has made me realise two things about the teams they'd be playing:
Richmond would have played against Cardiff, so Colin would've not only had to contend with facing off his old-relegated team with his new one, but given what we know about his grandma may not even have had the full support of his family in doing so (Colin&Jamie bonding when I ask you).
Richmond would have played Derby; Isaac would have shaken hands with Wayne goddamn Rooney one match as captains, as equals. Yes, it's at the end of Rooney's career and he's playing for Derby of all teams, but given Rooney's prominance in English football whilst Isaac was growing up that would have been A Moment for him.

Discharge Petition for H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Record Group 233: Records of the U.S. House of RepresentativesSeries: General Records
This item, H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, faced strong opposition in the House Rules Committee. Howard Smith, Chairman of the committee, refused to schedule hearings for the bill. Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, attempted to use this discharge petition to move the bill out of committee without holding hearings. The petition failed to gain the required majority of Congress (218 signatures), but forced Chairman Smith to schedule hearings.

Match Review: Manchester United 1-3 Brighton & Hove Albion
It's going to get worse. I'm not sure it'll get better.
Tumblr media
The embarrassment I'd feel putting in a performance like that after a touching memorial to Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End. The only Scottish player to ever win the Ballon d'Or and we stink the place out. Shameful.
I don't know how to process my frustration and write good copy, so here's a breakdown player by player.
Onana: ARE YOU TRYING TO GET SOLD YOU DAFT CUNT.
Tumblr media
De Ligt: Not a RCB. CB only. His passing and moving doesn't suit him flanking someone - especially not Maguire.
Maguire: His uncomfortable-ness spreads into others. We saw it with Luke Shaw, we see it in De Ligt, Martinez and Yoro. He's in a decent patch of form at the moment, but United need better.
Yoro: Poor. He's a kid, so it's understandable, but he was off it again today.
Mazraoui: The only player worse than Onana today. Wtf has happened to this guy? Or is it karma for being a dick about the Rainbow Laces campaign stuff?
Dalot: Cannot play LWB. Bring Amass up to the first team. Stick Dalot on the right. Bump Mazraoui into the back three.
Ugarte: Better today, but not by much. Right to be subbed off for Collyer, too easily bypassed, but did have some nice touches on the ball in tight spaces.
Mainoo: Similar to Ugarte, Kobbie looked off the pace. Confidence matters, and again he was good in tight spaces, but things weren't clicking with him in CM and part of me wonders if him and Bruno should swap positions - use Mainoo like Amad as a tekky player on the edge of the box.
Amad: Looks class, but not quite as clinical today as vs Soton.
Bruno: Tries too hard and fucks the flow of the team up. Solid penalty, and dependable on those, but we need more leadership from him. If that's not Keano style passion then it needs to be performance on the pitch ala Rooney.
Zirkzee: Looking sharper each game but still a little clumsy when driving at players. Good hold-up play, but poor defending for Brighton's second.
Collyer: Another solid cameo from Toby. He looked bright coming on, provided more energy, strength in midfield, and played a simple game that kept us flowing.
Garnacho: Lively, though ineffective.
Hojlund: The guy needs dropping for a while to be honest. He needs time to hone his game, re-find himself and what makes him a good prospect. Being Mark Hughes or Drogba and battling every defender is dumb, especially when they're bigger, stronger and more experienced. He has great technique, so be quick, get in behind, utilise that quality.
Antony: Why are you still here.
Tumblr media
I feel sorry for Ruben Amorim. His style of play isn't suited by this squad, and whilst he talks about people adapting... not everyone can or will adapt. You can see that he's lacking options, and that's on Ratcliffe & co. for bringing him in and expecting him to cope, and the Glazers prior for such dogshit club management that we pissed away millions on unsuited signings, dividends to the shareholders (who takes dividends from a football club?), and are paying disgusting levels of interest on a now-illegal loan to buy the club in the first place - money that's gimping our great football club.
Tumblr media
The reality is that United are in dire straights financially, and while I'm not a big fan of him, Ratcliffe seems to be at least taking a pragmatic approach to fixing the rot. The problem is that in that process, there has to be SOME sort of support for the manager to make the team his own. We've seen glimpses of quality, of potential, of style, but that's it. It seems like the issue is near to no money for transfers unless we sell, so lets do it? If Rashford's going, get him gone. Antony, get him gone. Casemiro, get him gone. Eriksen... keep til the end then let him leave - same for Lindelof. Luke Shaw, get him gone. Malacia... if you don't rate him, get him gone.
Tumblr media
That's two wingers (Amorim 10s), two CMs, two CBs (for this, Shaw is LCB), and a LWB. Amorim with SEVEN more players he actually wants and who want to be here could actually win a few matches, but until he has that we're just praying to survive game to game, and that's how you finish 14th and get laughed at by everyone. It's also how you miss out on the cash that Europe provides you.
Tumblr media
Maybe United need that break. Fewer games, more time at Carrington to learn Amorim Ball. Buy a bunch of cheap, good prospect kids and mingle them with academy talent. See who stands out and can step up, sell those who don't. I will say though, if I'm Harry Amass I'm fuming that I can't get some first team minutes at the moment. United look bereft of a left wing. Miserable.
Tumblr media
Next up: Rangers on Thursday in the Europa League at 8pm. We have to put those fucks away. A miracle run in the Europa or the FA Cup are the only glimmers of light in the tunnel of shit that is our season. Get praying, reds.

"At age 54, she still radiated that “sense of excitement” director Cukor spoke about, and seemed oblivious to the stares of those who recognized her.
I recall thinking, if she looks this good now, what must she have looked like in person, in her early Sinatra-Mickey Rooney-Artie Shaw-Howard Hughes days! She was dressed simply, and fashionably, looking sleek in a long-sleeved, high-necked white blouse, tailored black skirt, quilted black, gold-chained Gucci bag, medium-heeled black pumps. Her dark hair was pulled back into a chignon; she wore a minimum of makeup, high cheekbones prominent, and her profile was exquisite… The scent she wore was subtle but sensuous."

Ottawa's post-game press session after the 12/20/2024 game against the Minnesota Frost.
Reporters speak to head coach Carla MacLeod and forward Gabbie Hughes.
Transcription is under the break.
[They split the coach into a separate interview from the players for this session. They seem to be doing that more recently. Honestly I kind of like when everyone is at the table together, but hey, that's just me. We start things off with Ottawa head coach Carla MacLeod.]
Reporter:
I wanted to start with just how big that save- back 3-2, and almost immediately go down again, there was another chance and Maddie [Rooney] makes a big save. Otherwise at that point it could’ve been a tie game, is that any kind of momentum shift, turning point for you guys? It seemed like you were pushing early on in the second period too after they took the lead.
CARLA MACLEOD:
Yeah, you know, a massive save by a really good goalie. So good on her. She fought to get her toe on it and managed to do so. I don’t think I was worried that was going to sway us to the direction that it did. You would have thought, ‘well, man, we just about scored two goals in a minute, let’s keep going here.’ But just didn’t have the push back that we needed. We just didn’t have our game. It’s a problem. We gotta figure it out.
Reporter:
Can you say, kind of, you know, ‘It’s a problem. We’re, like, figuring out our game.’ I guess, what’s the gap between where you see you guys are now and maybe the areas that will get you there to where you assess your game being?
CARLA MACLEOD:
Well, our best players have to be our best players. Simple. And we’ve gotta figure out how to get that group going and contributing and making sure that we’re matching what other teams are doing. Obviously there’s always small components that you’re looking at as coaches and you’re trying to correct and fix. But right now that’s probably the most glaringly obvious piece. That we gotta figure out how do we figure out how do we get them going.
[video cuts to Gabbie Hughes at the desk]
Reporter:
I guess, how did it feel, getting out there and, you know, I’m sure a lot of emotions going into tonight’s game, but getting out there with your dad for the puck drop and everything. Just walk us through what you were feeling.
GABBIE HUGHES:
Yeah, I feel like that moment was super emotional for both of us. Did it at college and that was super special. And now to do it at the Xcel [Energy Center] for a pro team, I think, is unbelievable. And we never really expected ourselves to be at this point with Sophie’s Squad. So it was definitely an emotional moment. But very honored and proud of what we’ve done to be here and get here.
[It should be noted that Gabbie Hughes is a Minnesota native and played in college for the University of Minnesota Duluth. And the Xcel Energy Center is the home ice of the NHL's Minnesota Wild. So it tends to hold a special meaning to the locals who grew up playing hockey here.
Tonight was Mental Health Awareness night at the game. I was not aware of this until I looked into it for this transcription, but Sophie's Squad was actually founded in honor of Hughes' sister Sophie. I won't get into the whole story because it made me cry reading the history there. But know that this organization obviously holds a very special place in Hughes' heart.]
Reporter:
When you see, you know, not just buy-in from, like, your team or yourselves, but also, like, you know, the players and the fans. Kind of, I guess, the whole event of the night, how does that make you and the whole group at Sophie’s Squad feel?
GABBIE HUGHES:
Yeah, it just shows that all the hard work that we put in behind the scenes every single day, it’s all for a reason. Everyone I think really rallies around mental health awareness and causes like Sophie’s Squad. So it just makes us so proud and happy to see people buy-in to it. You can tell people want to know more about it, they want to learn about it. So yeah, it’s hard to take this loss. But also go out and be so proud of what I’m doing with Sophie’s Squad and what our organization is doing. So I’m excited to go out there and see what we did and all the outreach we got to do today.
[End of video.]

Frank Calvin Mann (November 22, 1908 - November 22, 1992) was an engineer and designer who worked with Howard R. Hughes on projects that included the Spruce Goose, at the time the largest airplane ever built.
He was born in Houston. He attended Prairie View A&M College. He studied at both the University of Minnesota and UCLA. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Howard Hughes hired him to work at Hughes Aircraft Company. He worked as an independent contractor for Lockheed, Boeing, and other aircraft manufacturers.
He decided to fly his airplane to Ethiopia to help the country resist the invasion. He joined the small Ethiopian Air Force but when the Italians conquered Ethiopia, he escaped and returned to the US.
He was invited to Tuskegee Institute to become one of a handful of African American civilian pilot training instructors. He left the program because of the poor condition of the training planes that the government supplied and asked Howard Hughes to use his influence with the government to get better training aircraft for the program.
After the US entered WWII, he became one of the aeronautical engineers chosen by the Army to strip excess weight from the Mitchell B-25. He worked for Howard Hughes in a program to re-arm bombers and fighters with 50-caliber machine guns.
He began designing and building custom sports cars for Hollywood celebrities including Mickey Rooney, David Rose, and Herb Jefferies. He built a small fiberglass body sports car for a Walt Disney executive that became a prototype for the Chevy Corvette. He built an aerodynamic car modeled on the F-86 Sabre Jet that he named Baby LeSabre. The car won Motor Trend Magazine’s Best Sports Car of the Year award at the Los Angeles Motorama.
He worked in the aerospace laboratories of Hughes Culver City. His work included several projects with NASA including the Surveyor Moon Exploration Unit. He worked on the early designs of the space shuttle as well as the Boeing 747 shuttle carrier aircraft.
He retired in 1972 and moved to Houston to care for his aging parents and open a small auto repair shop. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

I'm overall pleased with the amount of reading I did this year. I was working full-time, so I didn't have as much time as I wish I did, but I got into a decent rhythm with it in the last few months especially. In terms of personal trends, I guess I can identify that this was The Year I Went Nuts For Yuri (amassing a huge treasure-trove of beautiful lesbian manga to read on my tablet), The Year I Got Back Into Fun Novels (books like Big Swiss and Milk Fed and Idlewild were such pure sources of pleasure), and The Year I Started Collecting Bloomsbury Classics (of which I've presently read very few, but they look ridiculously lovely on the shelf, and I plan on reading them all eventually).

Felt inspired after playing GTA V and the GTA Trilogy
Since tumblr has a 30 photo limit, I just decided "fuck it" and just did the protagonists, also I'm mentally burned out.

Round 2 most popular villager results:
Round 2 is over, and both New Leaf darling Marshal and New Horizons darling Raymond have been eliminated! Sorry to any of you who had money on either of them taking the whole competition.
Round 3 will begin March 28th. I think round 3 is when the choices are really gonna start getting tough, there are a lot of matchups coming that I think will be very close. After round 3, submissions will open for three villagers to make a comeback, so stay tuned for that!
