Final episode
They really underdeveloped Mel's arc. It wasn't clear what was going on because the stakes weren't clear. They refused to answer the what and how of Ambessa's fight with the Black Rose. Bad choice. Bad bad choice.
Caitlyn also had to take a huge backseat in those last episodes.
And I don't think the tradeoff was correct - we had a lot of ethereal Viktor scenes without any impact - just hanging out. They were beautiful. But it would have been fine to cut for time. Why did Caitlyn decide to turn against Ambessa? This was a missing note. They could have afforded that moment. I think they mishandled that moment between Vi and Caitlyn when Vi woke up.
Really hadn't expected Maddie to be a turncoat. Not. At. All. A poetic end though.
Wow. But the story for Jayce and Viktor though. Wow. Wow. It was a closed timeloop. The wizard who saved Jayce was Viktor. And Viktor really became a god. And in every timeline...he gave him a different rune??? And in every timeline in which he ascends... Jayce is the only one who can stop him? From making the whole world One. Which means ...that the whole world is alone.
Wow. Amazing
But damn. What can I say.
I liked Vi losing Vander and Jinx again
But damn.
If anyone wasnt given their due by the narrative, it's Vi.
She has NEVER had any impact on anything ever. Shes never been able to save anyone. Alright, little saves in fight scenes
That's it.
What was Vi there for? She's one sexy lamp. It's pretty goddamn sad. She had NO narrative arc.
All along I assumed she was the main character. She really isn't. Goddamn. She really isn't. And never was. Why the hell did they not give her any growth ever.
It ends on: she can't undo the past, she can't protect her sister, she can't make up for anything. She can't get through to her sister. she can't save her. She can't make up for what she did.
I liked the bit where they hid Caitlyn and Vi being in cahoots. And we had just one moment of them being that incredible team again. But why didn't they... Vi means nothing. She didn't step in Vander's footsteps. Vi and Caitlyn are supposed to be a bridge. But they never got to be.
It's ironic that Jinx/Powder/newname decided to just finally leave the cycle. When I've been hoping Vi would. Vi got beat down endlessly by it. But she's still in the fight. Her thing is resilience. She gets back up and up and up. But it didn't MEAN ANYTHING. I guess getting back up, that means something. But I really think they needed a scene where idk. Idk. Idk. It's not fully there. Ok so Vi was never someone who wanted Zaun or to fix the world. She's just a good hearted girl. She gets to keep going. She gets to be with someone she loves.
I don't know. It's like she's still squatting in Caitlyn's house. What's she bringing to the fight? ARGH. I don't think they treated Vi right.
And poor Ekko. But they knew how to give HIM significance.
Even in the final fight Vi cannot make a difference. She can never make a difference. Although the sex scene was awesome I did think: dude. This is so tiny. And strangely positioned while the sudden storm is gathering? In season 1 it felt like Vi and Caitlyn coming together was significant - a solution. But that was lost in season 2. They really should have taken some ethereal Viktor time and spent it on giving Vi a place. An identity beyond getting beaten down. Some goddamn articulation of 'what do I get back up for again?'
Yeah. That. It could have been a really beautiful tiny ending. What does Vi get back up for again? Ugh
After all, the answer was always Powder. And now?
But the fight scene between mel-caitlyn and ambessa was amazing. Wow. And it really felt incredibly desperate. but stupid how Jayce only started PARTLY pulling out cores the moment the assault began....lol .....
