s/o, who used to work as a stripper, started dancing a professional super sexy striptease one day at a party while they were drunk? Main skelly pls🫶🫶🫶
Undertale Sans - He is bright blue. He knows he should do something, everyone is watching, but man his brain just stopped working. He can't focus and he can see now from where comes Papyrus's inability to do so. Sans eventually decides to drag you out when you get a little too far in throwing your clothes around and teleports you home. He then tries to put you to bed, as you insist you want to end the striptease only with him. PLEASE. STOP. He can't.
Undertale Papyrus - Oh, he's staring and he is really not hiding it. Maybe he's also a little too drunk because he can't stop giggling at your antics. He kinda wholly forgot there are people around. His eyes are on you and you only.
Underswap Sans - OK, that's enough for today, he's taking you home. You whine and complain as he drags you out, but he's stronger than you. He gently pushes you inside the car and then uses green magic to calm you down a little.
Underswap Papyrus - He's staring, mouth wide open, the face entirely orange. Everyone is cheering and stays kind, so he doesn't feel like dragging you out. He's just so in love right now. He could never leave you.
Underfell Sans - Despite how horny he is right now, there's no way he lets his friends stare at his S/O like that. He's teleporting them home lol. He's too jealous to share. Though, if you want to keep going home, he will gladly say nothing, you know. He will stop you if you try to get under the bones though. You're too drunk for this.
Underfell Papyrus - He sighs, then throws his coat on your shoulders and picks you up like a child to go home. You're whining and complaining, squirming around, but that's no use. Edge puts you in bed and guards you all night to make sure you're ok and don't need help with the hangover to come in the morning.
Horrortale Sans - He was not there since parties are giving him headaches, but a neighbor called him to ask to pick you up. He's coming in the middle of the night to fetch you. He didn't expect to find you only in underwear, but oh well. He helps you put your clothes back on and then carries you home, purring to soothe you as you're falling asleep.
Horrortale Papyrus - Willow panics when you threaten to get rid of your pants and might or might have not thrown a bone behind your head to knock you out. Well, it's effective. Though you're going to wake up with a huge headache and no memory of what happened. Willow says it's the hangover, but you can tell his voice is strangely high-pitched.
Swapfell Sans - He's flushing deep purple as Rus, Undyne and Alphys are teasing him to death. He has to do something. But what. Oh. He suddenly screams someone has a gun and uses the confusion to shoot twice on the ceiling. Everyone screams and starts to run. Nox grabs his S/O and teleports home without anyone noticing. He then pushes you towards the couch, lecturing you and saying you better not vomit on it.
Swapfell Papyrus - Rus is as drunk as you are. He asks a random girl for her high heels, jumps on the table and joins you to dance. Alphys calls Nox when you both start to sing horribly wrong, refusing to let go of the karaoke mics. Nox comes, stares at you two, half-naked, for a long minutes, then turns around and leaves. Nope. He doesn't know any of you.
Fellswap Gold Sans - He lets you have your fun. However if one of the guests is staring too much, he growls at them like a wild animal to shoo them away. After like 20 minutes, there's no one but the two of you in the room, as he's standing guard in front of you, making sure nothing gets close. He's enjoying the show as well, he's not going to lie.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He's too anxious and prefers to drag you home before you get too excited. He teleports you home and then puts you in bed. He then joins you to hug you protectively, standing guard. You puke on his hoodie. Ew. After that, Coffee goes to sleep on the couch. He's pouting in the morning, all grumpy because he didn't have his night cuddles.

Junelezen Day 30: Free Choice
Ali's Carbuncles
Thank you to @akirakirxaa for the final 2 gpose pics of Alinea and her carbuncles playing around!
I decided that the best way to finish off this wonderful month of Junelezen was to celebrate my carbuncles. They're my favorite creatures and I love that I've now been able to give them personalities :)
I've written a bit about Alinea's carbuncles and their abilities, which I'll include under the fold. I wrote this when I first started coming up with Alinea's backstory, so I'm glad I get to share this.
Thank you for sticking around through Junelezen!! It's been wonderful to share more about Alinea and her life! Every like, comment, and reblog has meant the world to me!
“Well, in theory it’s possible.”
“Come on Alphi! You’ve created two different carbuncles and they’ve each had special abilities and uses. Please!!”
“Alright, alright. It’s just... I’ve never seen a pink stone before. Have you?” Alphinaud looks up with genuine curiosity at the Elezen next to him. She looks at him, and upon realizing he is serious, reaches into her bag.
“I found this gem today. I’d want a brighter pink for my carbuncle, but considering familiars and carbuncles can take whatever shape you want, it really should be possible, right?”
“Yes, in theory, that is sound. But two, at the same time… Are you sure you can handle that Alinea?”
She knows he means well when asking this, but he really needs to have more faith in her. She smiles and gives him a hug. “I know what I’m asking Alphinaud and I’m sure. Having Lumen with me helps, but having another creature fight by my side that is in and of myself…”
She’s not sure how to explain how much Tataru had been right when guiding her to the arcanist’s guild after being overwhelmed after the First and needing another companion.
“You’ve felt it, haven’t you, Alph? When you get overwhelmed in a battle? How their aether, your aether, comes back and calms you? They may just be constructs, but you and I know better than that.”
Alphinaud looks down at his moonstone carbuncle, resting at his feet. “You’re right,” he says standing up, “So then, let’s do this shall we?”
Alinea jumps up, eager to learn. After going through the incantations and picturing in her mind’s eye exactly what she wants, she conjures a beautiful bright pink carbuncle.
“Hello Sephy.”
“Sephy?”
“Yes, I was feeling Persephone, but that’s a bit of a mouthful isn’t it? So I thought Sephy.”
“Hm, I like it! Ready for the next one? You’re not too tired already are you?”
“I’m good Alphi! And I have Sephy too! She wants to meet her brother.”
He chuckles, “Okay, if you’re sure then.”
Alinea closes her eyes and concentrates. A few moments later, an amethyst carbuncle emerges. He looks around and immediately goes to the pink carbuncle.
“No name yet?” Alphi inquires.
Alinea shakes her head, “He’s not as easy as his sister.” She waits a few moments and then starts to laugh. Alphi inclines his head toward her.
“What do you think of Demetri?”
“Demetri? I’ve never heard that name before, but I like it. Will it have a shortened version too?”
“No, I don’t think so,” Alinea smiles. “He’s just Demetri.”
While originally appearing a bit more standoff-ish and aloof than his sister, once he hears his name, he comes up to Alinea and sits on her feet. The smile that’s on Alinea's face is one that Alphinaud hasn’t seen in a while, and he is grateful to be able to offer her a bit of a reprieve.
“There you two are! Everyone’s been looking for you… Whose are these?” Alisae comes up behind them and stops at the sight of the two carbuncles. “If you tell anyone, I will deny it, but these are adorable!”
She runs up and holds her hand out to the carbuncles. Demetri goes to sniff Alisae, but Sephy goes straight to Alphinaud.
“Well, at least they like you both.” Alinea smiles at the scene. Her favorite people, and her carbuncles trusted them immediately, even if they did have favorites.
A few months later, Alinea is back in Il Mheg. Feo Ul senses her and goes to check in. Beside Alinea are her two carbuncles, the purple with a knife nearby, and the pink with flower bracelets on while Alinea weaves a flower crown for it.
“Ah, my lovely sapling, is everything alright?”
Feo Ul knows better and that deep down Alinea must have something on her mind.
“I’m just tired Feo Ul. There are these towers on the Source and a madman, make that two, are running loose. I know something bad is about to happen, and I know that I can and will do what I need to. But is it bad to be tired and just need rest?”
Feo Ul gives her loveliest of saplings a hug.
“You’ve had a heavy burden placed on you dearie. But you’re the only mortal I know who could handle it. And you’re not alone. You’ve got me, all the fae, and so many mortals on your side. Rest. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. It will not do to see you burnt at both ends.”
Alinea agrees.
“Rest right now dearie,” and with a snap of her fingers, Feo Ul has provided a blanket and pillow for Alinea.
“I will keep watch on you and when you awake, I want the story of your familiars.”
Alinea agrees and within minutes is fast asleep. Her carbuncles cuddle close to Alinea and Feo Ul can see her relax minute by minute. After several hours, Alinea awakes looking much refreshed. Feo Ul is delighted to see her sapling replenished. After setting up some food to cook, Alinea regales Feo Ul with the tales. How she learned that she had anxiety that would creep up during battles. How Lumen, or one of her comrades would normally keep it at bay, but when she was separated she would start to panic. How she told Tataru this and was sent to the Arcanist’s Guild, where she first learned to conjure carbuncles. She still loves her starting ones and will bring them out to play occasionally, but these had a stronger bond with her, and keep her more calm, while also helping on the battlefield.
When Feo Ul inquires why the purple one keeps a knife near him, Alinea bursts out laughing.
“Well, one time in a training fight, some loud mouth said that carbuncles are of no use. Demetri didn’t take well to that and started attacking his ankles. I thought it’d be funny to see if I could train him to use a blade and well, he took to it.”
She turns to Sephy curled up next to her.
“Sephy is more gentle. Her shields are far more resistant than his. No offense meant. It’s almost like they represent two different sides of me.”
Alinea knows that this is similar to Fray and Ardbert as well.
"It’s disconcerting having all the pieces and parts to you that you can never fully understand."
She looks up at Feo Ul, who has a bright smile on her face.
“And dearie? What’s wrong with that? You are kind and caring to others, but that means you stand up for those that can’t for themselves. You need both. I am proud of you, o sapling of mine. And I know you will not fail no matter what comes next. Though if you ever need encouragement, call on me at any time.”
“I will Feo Ul. Thank you.”
“Until next time dearie.”
The King disappears and Alinea, far lighter than before, packs up and heads back to the Source.

Illicit Affairs
So, we have a little fic that we cooked up, while resting our wrist mid-drawing. Our drawing projects are still on the way, please be patient with us! Q~Q We really are just disabled and had a lot of unexpected things going on this year. And this month is especially hard for us for personal reasons.
This fic takes place in the Defining Happiness universe, and focuses on Prophecy. Prophecy is MK (Monster Kid) and Delvie's mother, and her husband Josiah is Alphys's brother.
The lyrics used are from Illicit Affair by Taylor Swift.
Athena, Mary, and Oliver are owned by our best friend, @starfact0ry.
(Warning: Heavily implied SA, self-blame, unintentional self-harm, suicidal idealization, stockholm syndrome. This fic is depressing.)
This takes place around a year after Frisk freed the underground.
--------------------
Make sure nobody sees you leave…
Hands.
Hands were all over her body. Hand gripped her head crests, forcing her head up high, giving her a piercing headache and neck cramp. Hands were on her neck, in a tight grip, leaving her breathless and her mouth agape, in desperation for air. Hands were on her stomach, her chest, her shoulders, her arms, her tail. Hands were on her legs. Hands were between her thighs.
Pinching. Slapping. Rubbing. Biting. It never ended. It never fucking ended.
Hood over your head, keep your eyes down…
Metaphorically, at least. Of course it would end. It would end, and she would go home, hood pulled tightly over her face. Resembling how she’d seen her Nona dress so many times growing up. Always hiding zer face, zer identity. Shrouding zemself in mystery to all who did not know who laid behind zer cloak.
If only she could be a mystery. If only the world didn’t know her. If only she didn’t have to go home and smile at her friends, her parents, her in-laws, her husband, her children, as if nothing ever happened. If only she could run away. Could run away and pretend she never existed, without feeling the crippling guilt of leaving behind the people who needed her.
If only she didn’t have to grit her teeth and bear the torture that happened every other day. If only she could gather the bravery to listen to her thoughts, which screamed “Tell him. Tell them. Tell someone. Do something.”
If only she weren’t such a coward.
Tell your friends you're out for a run…you'll be flushed when you return.
When she arrived home, she was immediately greeted by her friends. Athena - a bright-eyed, giant, loud-mouthed, muscular tiger monster. Mary - a meeker, gentler, soft-spoken sheep monster. They’d agreed to babysit MK and Delvie whilst she was “at the gym.”
Athena pulled her into a tight hug - a suffocating one - and she had to pretend like it wasn’t agonizing. Had to pretend like her body wasn’t pierced with claws and teeth for hours. There was only so much green magic could do for her - the pain still lingered, even if the wounds were closed, and the dust had been washed away.
On any other day, she would enjoy the tightness of the squeeze. But not today.
Next thing she knew, she was being dragged to the couch. The kids wanted to show her the puppet show they’d been practicing with Auntie Athena and Auntie Mary.
She held the hands of her friends and watched her children. She smiled. She allowed herself to get lost in the domestics. To pretend that she was ordinary.
Just ordinary.
The rest of the evening was spent playing into that fantasy. A happy friend. A happy mother. A happy wife. A happy life.
Take the road less traveled by…tell yourself you could always stop.
It was 1:00 AM when she was awoken by the usual ringing into her earphone. The ringtone she’d chosen for one specific person - the only person in the world who she would let awake her without it being an emergency.
The only person in the world she managed to equally love and despise.
She slipped out of Josiah's arms. It was perfect luck that he was such a heavy sleeper; otherwise he would be asking her what she was doing every few nights. Or worse, would awaken to her shouts and gasps, her scrambling and thrashing, as nightmares overtook her. She was glad to not be a burden for him.
She slipped into the bathroom as she pressed the button to answer the phone. A husky, growling whisper emerged from the other side. She hoped that tonight would be one where she gets to stay inside. Photographs, a video call, something simple. Something that didn’t put her aching body under more strain.
But her partner in crime whispered a location, and she held in a sigh of exhaustion. She refused to outwardly express how drained she was. She refused to be weak.
She told the voice to give her thirty minutes and spent half of that time crying in the bathroom. Telling herself that it was her own fault. That she could stop this if she just tried. That she deserved this. That she’s a horrid excuse of a wife and mother for allowing this to continue. That she can just tell someone, and it will all end.
The more she blamed herself, the more she started to believe it.
What started in beautiful rooms…ends with meetings in parking lots. And that's the thing about illicit affairs, and clandestine meetings, and longing stares; it's born from just one single glance, but it dies, and it dies, and it dies…a million little times.
It wasn’t long before she arrived at the parking lot of some abandoned, run-down building. And her partner in crime did the worst imaginable thing - she extended a hand, music playing from the open window of her car, and asked to dance.
Prophecy just wanted this to be a quick in-and-out. For it to be cold, emotionless, aggressive. She always hated it when it went this way instead. When it almost felt heartfelt. Almost felt loving. Almost felt kind.
She took her hand, pressed her cheek into her chest, and the two swayed together. Atop the concrete, below the beautiful starlit sky.
One could mistake them for a couple, if they didn’t know better. And once upon a time, that would be correct. Once upon a time, she’d pictured the two of them walking down the aisle together.
Once upon a time, before a husband and children, Prophecy had met with her on real dance floors every week. Met with her in restaurants and gardens. Spoken of what life on the surface together would be like.
How did things turn out this way?
How could a highschool sweetheart turn into the person haunting her nightmares?
How could a highschool sweetheart be someone that could truly destroy everything left in her life, with the snap of a finger, if she so much as blinked the wrong way?
“We used to be friends.”
The thought echoed in her head every day.
“You are a traitor.”
Yet, on nights like this, she couldn’t help but enjoy the tender moments. Couldn’t help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, this could be salvaged.
And as their dance ended, and they made their way into the car together, getting lost in passion, she wondered if moments like this could really be considered the same as the violent events that conspired less than 24 hours earlier.
Leave the perfume on the shelf that you picked out just for him, so you leave no trace behind, like you don't even exist…
Take the words for what they are…a dwindling, mercurial high. A drug that only worked the first few hundred times…
She got home around 4:30 AM, and immediately jumped into the shower. Despite being left with no wounds this time, she still felt so dirty. Still scrubbed herself with a rag until her skin dusted.
By the time the shower was complete, she needed to take a healing pill to repair her self-inflicted wounds. She grabbed her perfume from the shelf of the bathroom and sprayed it all over herself. She was always paranoid that Josiah would smell her. No matter how hard she cleaned herself, that anxiety wracked her mind.
She was sure that he wouldn’t understand. He would take it as betrayal, as an affair.
Her face flushed as she remembered the tender touches from earlier.
Maybe it is an affair.
Maybe it is her fault. Her choice.
Maybe she doesn’t deserve the safety of Josiah's arms.
Maybe she should come clean, and allow him to take MK and Delvie. Allow him to leave her behind. Allow him to tell her family and friends how scummie she is. How she spent her entire 11 years of marriage hooking up with a highschool ex. How she gave up on trying to decline years ago, lost her will to, and was a complacent part of the problem. Maybe she would finally be alone, with nothing more than her to run to, and she’d spend the rest of her life withering away under her thumb. Or she’d finally go through with all those thoughts in her head, the ones telling her to summon her soul, find the nearest knife, and-
She was startled by a text on her phone.
“You were stunning tonight. I love you.”
Her soul pounded mercilessly in her chest. Her eyes flooded with tears. Her shaking claws began typing a response, but stopped.
How could she do this? How could she say things like this to her? How could she make her soul race with terror, infatuation, arousal, and flattery? How could she give her stomach butterflies and make it twist with nausea at the same time?
It wasn’t fair.
Nothing was fucking fair.
She melted to the bathroom ground, breathing rapidly, until it turned into a full blown panic attack. She let out all of her ugly sobs - snot, drool, tears, snorts, whimpers - and hoped, with all of her soul, that her children or husband wouldn’t awaken anytime soon.
Yet, at the same time, she hoped that somebody would.
That somebody would hold her.
But nobody came.
And that's the thing about illicit affairs and clandestine meetings and stolen stares, they show their truth one single time - but they lie, and they lie, and they lie…a million little times.
She met up with another friend - Oliver, a blonde, freckled human-appearing hybrid, with bright golden eyes and the kindest of smiles - later that day, for a tea party, in the afternoon. She was exhausted, due to hardly getting any sleep the night before, but didn’t want to cancel. She loved spending time with him, and her kids were always delighted to spend time with their honorary uncle.
They made casual conversation, holding hands on the table. Talked about his new partner, Daris, and how things were going. He was so young, compared to her. So fresh into his life, inexperienced in the realm of partnerships.
She envied him. Envied that his first ever partner wasn’t the kind to betray him. Envied that they had the strength to set clear, healthy boundaries with each other.
She didn’t get so fortunate with her first partner.
She hadn’t even realized she was in tears until his body was leaning across the table, caressing her cheek, wiping the tears away. Her children were staring up at her with their big, innocent eyes, asking their mama what was wrong.
She wanted to collapse into their embraces and beg for them to forgive her for being such a weak mother and friend.
Instead, she forced a smile, and told him that she was just feeling nostalgic about her first partnership.
It was close enough to the truth to seem convincing. Convincing enough for them to ask her for the details. Details that she hesitantly began sharing. And once she started talking, she couldn’t stop. She didn’t share her name, her species, her age. Dodged any identifying details.
She also left out all of the bad parts. Only relived the good. It almost made her feel as though the bad parts didn’t exist.
Almost.
After a good two hours of telling stories, the doorbell rang, and she answered it.
It was a face she never thought she’d see at her doorstep. A person who’d never had the audacity to step foot on her property, not since their teenage days. A person who’d sworn to stay away.
Her muscles, her soul - it twisted within her, and her blood ran cold. It felt like everything in her body had turned to stone. Or to snow. As if she were an ice sculpture.
“Hey, baby.” Her sultry voice whispered. “Do you have a minute?”
And you wanna scream “Don't call me ‘kid!’ Don't call me ‘baby!’ Look at this godforsaken mess that you made me! You showed me colors you know I can't see with anyone else!”
“Don't call me ‘kid!’ Don't call me ‘baby!’ Look at this idiotic fool that you made me! You taught me a secret language I can't speak with anyone else!”
She slammed the door shut, and slid to the floor. She couldn’t think. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t even breathe. She was hyperventilating.
Her children, her friend, they rushed over. They attempted to get answers out of her, placing their hands or tails on her in an attempt at comfort, but she shook them off, unable to handle the sensation of being touched. They were speaking to her, but their voices were incoherent through the ringing sound in her head. The only voice, the only coherent sound, was hers. Calling in a sing-song tone through the door.
“Kiddo~...Open the door~”
No. No. No.
“C’mon, baby, you don’t gotta be shy~...just open the door, let me in~...”
No. No. No.
“You wanted me to come here, didn’t you?~ Wanted to tell me you loved me in person?~ There’s no other reason for you to have left my text on read, right?”
No. No. No.
She began pounding on the door, voice losing that sing-song note, and instead being filled with a growl.
“Open the fucking door, kiddo!”
NO. NO. NO.
“BABY, OPEN THE GODDAMN DOOR! YOU DON’T WANT ME TO TRY YOUR DAUGHTER NEXT, DO YOU!? THEN OPEN THE FUCKING-”
“LEAVE ME AND MY CHILDREN ALONE!”
She screamed as she jolted awake. Screamed as she knocked over the mostly-empty teacups all over the table, and the remaining sandwiches to the floor. Screamed as she fell off of her chair, and scrambled backwards.
Oliver, MK, Delvie - they stared at her in horror, confusion, fear.
She took a moment to realize where she was, what had happened.
A dream. It was a dream.
She’d been so sleep deprived that she’d fallen asleep while talking about her highschool experiences.
They tried to approach her. But she didn’t give them a chance. She shot onto her feet, stumbling to grab her phone, and ran out the door, sobbing a meek apology as she slammed it behind her.
One thing about her dream was correct. She had forgotten to respond to the message. And there would be consequences for that. Consequences that she had to deal with herself. Consequences that she would keep as far away from her friends and family as possible.
Oliver attempted to call, but she declined the call. She would have to think of something to say to him and her kids later.
She dialed her number as she ran down the street, and told her she was heading to her house. She only had one response, before hanging up on her.
“You better hurry, kiddo…you know I don’t like to be ignored. And we have an agreement.”
A sharp pain ran through her soul, as she thought about how terrified her children must have been. How concerned her friends, parents, husband, and in-laws would be, when Oliver inevitably reached out to them.
She turned her phone off, so that nobody else could call her. Just for a few hours.
She’d do almost anything for her satisfaction. Even be a horrible mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister.
Anything to keep them out of her claws.
Anything.
“And you know damn well, for you, I would ruin myself…a million little times.”

I dont know if its too dark but if its just erased it!!!
I know you already write an ask about S/O having a baby even if that means s/o dying
BUT how about S/O and skelly having a well going pregnancy but in the moment of birth... s/o dies? Like, something happend that cause their death, not even having a chance to hold their baby,,,
Well dang. Sad! Lol
sorry it took me so long to get back to yours. I have a lot of asks ^^'
I'm trying to get them all answered in a timely way without making people wait too long.
Also hope you don’t mind the characters that I picked! I wanted these to be long. If you have any special characters you want, then send the ask again and ask for them, please :)
Sans- Today was the day! Sans was so happy! He and his datemate were having a baby! He's always wanted kids. During the whole pregnancy he did everything he could for her and would panic sometimes even if it was just a kick. Yeah, he might have overreacted a lot, but it was just because he loved his datemate and wanted the best for them. Now it was the day! There were a few things that he was worried about, like for quite a bit of time before the whole water breaking, Y/n had some abdominal pain but they told him that it was fine and nothing too bad. Y/n also was more sensitive to light which was worrying but they kept telling him that everything was fine! Papyrus was here with him, talking excitedly like "I'm going to be an uncle!" he was so happy about it, and Undyne told him that he did good and even pat his skull which was a tad strange, as he was you know, older than her but eh whatever. He saw the doctor come out making his grin go up and he jumps up walking over holding a balloon which was tied around his wrist. It was a 'it's a boy!' Balloon but Frisk crossed out boy and put a piece of paper that said 'babybones' "Hey there, how's Y/n and the baby? Can we go to see them?" then... he noticed something. The way the guy looked upset, the air felt cold... he didn't like it so he gulps "Can we go see them?" he asked, a bit more force behind his words. The doctor explained that something went wrong and that Y/n died during the birth, and the baby had to be taken away quickly to be put onto tubes to make sure it would stay alive. Sans couldn't listen to all of it, he felt like he was underwater, everything was murky. Y/n was gone? His babybones was... he felt sick to his stomach and he didn't even know that he had one of those! He needs to sit down so he just sat down on the floor hugging himself as tears streamed down his cheeks. This was his fault! He didn't mean to make his datemate die to have his babybones. He can't do this again; he can't raise another person all alone. Please come back.
Papyrus- Today they were at the hospital. Why? Because Papyrus' datemate was pregnant with his babies! Twins, which he was very excited about. He loves the idea of his child having a friend forever and twins are the best way for that. Undyne was there and rambling about how cool it was and she was hoping that they'd have two different eye colors, like the twins in her shows! Alphys tried to tell her that that isn't exactly how it works out, but Undyne ignored her. Sans kept making puns! Like he said that he couldn't even tell that Y/n was pregnant, cause the baby was inapparent... come on Sans. Then he asked what was taking so long! It's like this wait time has been waiting a maternity. Papyrus had to groan at that. Toriel was giggling and has been telling him all about how to take care of babies but he was sure that he and his amazing, slightly less than himself, datemate would be able to handle it! When finally, the doctor came out he was happy and jumped up, running over holding his hand to his chest as he says "Hello doctor! I, the great Papyrus, is the datemate of the human, Y/n, that you took back there. Our babybones are supposed to be born now. How are they and my amazing wonderful datemate?" the way that the doctor looked made Papyrus... nervous. He asked again hoping that the doctor just didn't hear him! Yes, most likely! Then the doctor told them all that Y/n had died during the birth of the twins because their body just couldn't handle it. Papyrus listened, and he heard the others saying how sorry they were, or they didn't say anything. His body felt frozen, like he couldn't say anything, or do anything. What? Oh well uh... he turns his head away then down for once... not sure what to say. His datemate was going to be gone? He wasn't going to be able to see them again? He asks the doctor if he was fully sure, if there was no way that his datemate could still be alive that they're just wrong? The doctor told him that no, they were sure, and that broke Papyrus' heart he hugged onto his brother, sitting on his knees, and just sobbed. The sounds and force behind his cries shook his bones. Did he do something wrong to deserve this? He thought he was a good boy! He thought... He didn't know what he did wrong.
Blueberry- Blueberry couldn't believe that he was going to be having a babybones with his datemate! When he told the others though, Alphys laughed and told him that that was one of the best jokes she's heard from him! Stretch gave her a look of 'shut up' while Blueberry got a little upset and told her that it wasn't a joke! It was offensive that she thought he would even joke about that type of thing. She sunk down and smiles sheepishly mumbling that she was sorry. That's why they're now in the hospital, and he was twirling his thumbs between his fingers rocking back and forth slightly where he was sitting. Everything was going well they were told, but he was still nervous. Sometimes Y/n said that they felt sick and were always so dizzy so they had to stay in the bed more often but they were told that it would be fine and Y/n was fine! That's... the truth, right? He felt a hand get placed onto his shoulder making him flinch away and he looks over quickly to see Asgore who was holding Chara, a relaxed smile on his bearded face and he says "Hello Blue, are you feeling alright?" Chara raises their hand, waving with a little smile on their face. He hums, thinking about it, rubbing his neck as he answered "I think I'm alright? I mean... j-just nervous but the magnificent Sans would never become too nervous to be there for his amazing datemate!" he laughs putting his hands on his hips, even though he was sitting making Stretch chuckle. Asgore smiles a little himself and nods in approval, starting to say things that he should most likely do for a baby while Stretch interrupts saying that it's going to be a human and skeleton mix, so they'll most likely not need way too much help. Blueberry didn't like how they started to go back and forth, even Toriel rolling her eyes looking tired of them and whatever they were doing. Finally, the doctor came out making him perk up and he grins hopping out of the chair and points up at the other two boys "You two, stop arguing and sit down! You can both help me and Y/n raise our babybones. Since they're half human and half skeleton, I can use both of your helps" Stretch sticks his tongue out and takes Chara and sits down Asgore looking offended but chuckles shaking his head, sitting down as well. They were close friends. He walks over to the doctor putting his hand to his chest "Hello, my name is Blueberry, or at least a nickname. I hope not to bother you, if you're busy, but you went with my datemate to have our babybones! How are they both doing?" he looked so excited, but the smile and star shapes went away when he saw how sad the doctor looked Alphys snaps asking what happened? They were told that Y/n had died during the birth and one of the twins passed but the other one was still alive, just needed to be watched over carefully for the next few days. He heard people saying that they were sorry but Sans wasn't listening. Why were they saying sorry? That... isn't going to bring them back.
Stretch- It was honestly strange. Stretch... never really thought that he'd go and have kids himself, you know? After his and his brother's childhood, he never thought he would ever want his own children. Yet now he was here, in the hospital, where his datemate was having their kids in the backroom. He was so thrilled! Just... very nervous. Everything was going so fast but also so slow, and he already had a few panic attacks so he had one of those puke bags, using it as a breathing thing while Blueberry rubbed at his back. His brother laughs, saying as he patted his back. "My dearest brother! I can't believe you're making me an uncle, I'm so happy. I'm sure this is all going to go very smoothly!" Undyne nods from where she was sitting beside him, smiling nervously as she says. "I-It's um very... very un-unlikely for anything to go bad" Stretch looks at her out of the corner of his eyes and nods, still feeling his nerves shooting through him. They're both saying that things are going to go smoothly, but he can't help how he nevertheless feels afraid! Things might go wrong Then what is he supposed to do? Well, what could go wrong? He thought to himself but shuts his eyes tightly, breathing harder trying to stop his brain. He knew how dangerous this is, he studied it before, he can't believe he did this! Ahhhh... he tenses up a little when he heard the door open and close, hearing Asgore say hello to the doctor and he lifts his head looking over at the doctor who was holding a clipboard, a frown on their face. Oh no. He felt sick to his stomach already he smiles weakly though to try to appear like he wasn't worried. He's been making puns all day so he decides to do one more. "You know, I'm so glad we didn't use sonblock at the beach all those months ago" he heard his brother groan but Asgore chuckles, sadly... the doctor didn't. They clear their throat, frowning as they start to talk "This is... this isn't the time for jokes, sir. I'm not quite sure how to tell you this, but... your datemate has passed. There were complications and they couldn't hold on. I'm sorry" Stretch stares at the human with his mouth open just a little then shuts it again. That's... he turns his head down holding the bag tighter. He knew that something was wrong but he wished that he was wrong. Of course, he could hear the others saying stuff, but he couldn't bring himself to listen everything felt so wrong and he felt sick to his stomach... this was his fault.
Snackers- If he was to be honest, Snackers never thought that he'd ever get with a human! They were good, but he liked to eat them more than anything? Like... they tasted soooo good but then he got with his datemate, and they made him feel so good. So happy. So, he didn't mind not eating that one human! Well... all humans now. It was a little annoying, for him to have gotten used to eating humans, to just now be unable to. His brother would kill them then he'd cook them! It was so nice... at first, he didn't like the idea, it scared him, but after a while, his brother was able to talk him into trying it and he loved it! Now they were above ground though, so he was allowed to eat other things! He loved trying things, even if sometimes he would eat things that weren't really editable; like one time he bit onto the table while Y/n was trying to take him out of the building but he didn't wanna leave yet so he bit onto the table, and they had to tug him for a little while. It was so silly! Another thing he never thought he'd have were babybones, but guess what? They were at the hospital and Snackers was so nervous because his datemate was pregnant! All the people around him were making him feel nervous, there was so much smell of blood and he was feeling almost overwhelmed by it. He could feel his brother rubbing his back to try to keep him calm and he was chewing on a chewing ring! It was supposed to be for 'babies' but he didn't care. It made him feel good to chew on it and it made him feel like he was safe. It was a comfort thing, his brother said it was for sensory stuff or something? He turns his head to look at his brother, seeing him writing on a notebook, and lifts it so he could read it. 'you're going to break this one if you keep doing it that much bro.' Snackers looks down at his chewing toy, pulling it from his mouth, and laughs "You...you're right! Not... good" He chuckles nervously, rubbing at his neck his eye shines shooting around. "There's just... lot of people. Smelling..." Butcher hums and reaches over, pushing the toy back into his mouth making him blink, chewing on it again. This was all starting to overwhelm him if he's to be honest, the fact that his datemate was pregnant and a whole lot of blood thing... so when he saw the doctor coming out he smiles wide and hops up dropping the toy on the ground since he didn't care much and runs over "Hello!" He says quickly, making the doctor jump back a tad. Humans were still sorta scared of monsters oh well, he doesn't care. "My datemate, Y/n, went back to have my babybones! So... excited! Where?" he wanted to ask where they were, but he was too excited so he was pretty much vibrating. He saw his brother sitting there staring at the doctor who himself started to shake a little "I'm..." He starts, "very sorry to... be the one to tell you b-but-" they clear their throat to most likely calm themselves down while Snackers was just staring, smiling "Your datemate has passed on" he tilts his head to the side, then laughs "passed on what? Their... eyes to our babybones? Good!" The doctor seemed a little uncomfortable and slowly explained that no, he meant they're dead... when Snackers heard that he was so shocked he had to sit back on the ground. So that's what it's like to have someone that close to you killed? He wanted to attack this doctor so his eyes scanned up but before he could he felt Butcher catch him pulling him close to his chest while he kicked his legs and shouted, trying to get out of his brother's grip. He sounded a little like a wild animal.
Butcher- Butcher used to be named Spear, simply changed that after getting above ground. He hated the idea of himself being named after his weapon; and the thing that ended up taking his ability to talk. Alphys really did ruin that for him... but now that they were above ground, he got the help of the humans! They're trying to make him a fake bottom jaw that he would be able to use to talk better than he could now, and the crack in his skull. It wasn't that bad, just over one of his eyes which was where they tried to take away his magic. It made him have some issues with memory, not as bad as Axe from the other world, but his whole thing was the no jaw issue. Guess he can't complain though haha... ouch. Another thing that has been going on, was the fact that because they were now above the underground, he met someone. That, someone, was Y/n, and they were a human that he very much cherished. To be honest, he thought that they were one of the only reasons he was still alive and around anymore! His brother was sitting with him chewing on his little sensory item looking around. Butcher knew why, there was so much smell of blood, it might be a little too much for him to handle so he reaches up petting the top of his brothers head who looks up at him and smiles "Thank you! How are you feeling?" he shrugs his shoulders, reaching up scratching lightly at his skull letting out a slight sound. He couldn't speak but he could make random noises, and sure he could try to use one of those machines that the humans offered that would allow him to 'talk' but it's just him typing in the letters and the machine speaking for him. That isn't talking to him, it doesn't have emotion it doesn't show what he wants to say it just says what he wants to say without him and that's upsetting to him! He looks forward noticing that some humans were staring at him but when he looked over to wave, they quickly looked away making annoyance bubble up in his stomach. He wanted to snarl, growl at them that he wasn't something to just stare at! Yet, he didn't. While he was lost in thought he heard the door open and close, making him look over, and he sees the human that took his datemate back, making him smile the best that he could and he gets up walking over slowly. The doctor looks up and tenses up when they most likely saw him. Oops. "Um..." they clear their throat "Are you... Butcher?" He nods, so they keep talking "Well I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but due to unforeseen circumstances, your datemate has succumbed to injury caused by the birth of the children. We did everything that we could to save them" Butcher was confused, what happened? It took a little bit to fully click in his mind and when it did, his mind shut off. His datemate was dead because he wanted children? No, because these guys didn't... they just let... he reaches up covering his face with his hands trying to keep himself calm. He can't break, he can't just start killing again even if he thinks these people deserve it... his favorite human, poof! Gone.
Axe- When his datemate told him that they were pregnant, he honestly was shocked. He didn't know how to feel about it, but he was happy mostly? Sometimes he got worried, and he got very overprotective, holding onto them when he thought that there was any type of danger. It wasn't that he didn't think that they could take care of themselves, it was more he was worried about them getting hurt. Now they were at the hospital because it was the day! The day that they were going to become parents and Axe didn't know what to do. Because it was a hospital, he wasn't allowed to have his axe but his support dog was here! He was told that their breed was a... St. Bernard and he named her Pasta. His brother loved and hated the dog but he loved her. He was petting her trying to stay calm looking around trying not to breathe in too much, yet can't help it. The smell of blood around was starting to overwhelm him but he gets knocked out of those thoughts when he felt Pasta put her head on his knee, making him blink and he turns his head down to look at her seeing her, panting softly and he smiles a little more than before then lifts his head tapping his feet on the ground. So much was happening here, and he was so scared.  He loved his datemate, they were one of the only things that were keeping him calm and still... around? Living was scary but he kept living to make his brother and his datemate happy, if they weren't around he would have dusted himself long ago. His brother was getting better and healthier, and he was about to have a babybones with his datemate that he loved. The thought made him start to purr shutting his eye, at least the one that he could. While he was sitting there, alone because his brother had to stay home, but he was still happy; the purring stopped when he heard footsteps making him open his eye looking at the doctor who stops when the red eye landed on him. They stare at each other in silence, Pasta looking between the two of them, until the doctor clears his throat "A-Are... you..." he stops, making Axe squint a little "Axe?" He slowly nods at the question. "Okay, alright. You came in with Y/n, right? I'm... ah." He clears his throat "The birth went smoothly a-at first but slowly it seems as though something went wrong." Axe's breath hitched as he heard that, shifting where he was sitting. Wrong? Wrong wrong wrong? What... wrong? His breath starts to go faster, reaching up hooking his fingers into his eye socket, his soul feeling strange in his chest. "What... Did you do?" He asks, slowly getting up growling in a harsh tone. The person takes a few steps backwards but he reaches forward, grabbing the doctors shirt "what did you do?!" The doctor yelps, and says that Y/n died during the birth but his babybones was healthy. He had no idea how to feel, what... was happening? He woke up in a holding room because he got violent with the doctor.
Red- When Red was told that he was going to be a dad by his datemate, he half thought about leaving. He already took care of Edge, he couldn't handle another child. What if they turned out as Edge did!? Yet, after a bit of thinking, he told his datemate that he was ready. Not like he couldn't be, you know? Everything was still worrying but he tried his best to not think about it too much. If anything, if he's to be honest, he was a little excited. This was just another try and his brother didn't really come out that bad, just mean which was expected from their world. That's why, right now, he was in the hospital waiting for his datemate to have his babybones. They were told that they're having twins! TWINS! Can you believe that? Why twins? That's more than he signed up for, and he only signed up for one! Honestly, not even one... he didn't want babies. So many thoughts were rushing through his mind and he was using one of those vomit bags as a breathing bag. It was supposed to help him not have a panic attack. His brother was here, as well as Toriel, and Tori was talking all excitedly about how they were going to have babies! Frisk was here too, but looked nervous, pressed close to Edge because of all the humans around them. Edge looks over at him, noticing the fact he was breathing like that, making him roll his eyes "You're going to make yourself pass out, if you keep doing it like that" He sounded annoyed but Red knew that he was most likely just worried. Exie(based on the word execution) looks over and giggles a little. "And that would suck!" Red rolls his eyes. Ugh... He regrets coming out with them. Luckily for them, the doctor finally comes out making him look up and he gets up, walking over smiling weakly. "Hey bud" he starts, sweat rolling down from his forehead. It happened like that when he was nervous, and he was. He hated hospitals! He got his pills though so that's good? They help with his panic, and the others with his problems with sleeping. "So, uh how's... How's the datemate and kids? Mine, I mean. Not that I don't care about yours, I just... I really don't care just tell me how mine are" he heard Edge groan but Frisk giggles. The doctor tilts their head, frowning then looks through their clipboard "ah..." Well, that caused Red's chest to tighten. "I'm sorry, but sadly, your datemate has passed" Red stares at the doctor, then looks over his shoulder at the other three, then up again. They're... Gone? His chest felt too tight, the others were judging him most likely so he shuts his eyes tightly, teleporting away. He killed his datemate.
Edge- Of course Edge was happy! He had a beautiful datemate, and that beautiful datemate was pregnant! He knew that his datemate was going to have an amazing and wonderful babybones. At first he was nervous to have children, he didn't know if he was ready. Now he didn't care! His datemate was pregnant and he was ready to take care of them both. Red told him a few things for when his babybones was born but Edge snapped at him, saying that he'd be able to deal with it himself. Red rolled his eyes but agreed. Yet... Now they were in the hospital, and he felt so much panic going through his body. His brother was with him, sitting beside him looking nervous. Sometimes he was about to fall asleep but woke back up, shaking his head to keep himself awake and he turns his head to look at his brother, letting out a little chuckle "You okay there, bro?" He asks. Edge turns his head quickly to look at Red who was looking up at him with his stupid eye glows, and the bags under his sockets. He looked so tired but... ugh! "I'm fine!" He snaps, then tilts his head back resting it against the wall tapping his boot on the ground feeling nervous. For so long, he thought he was ready for this but when his datemate's water broke, and they said that the baby was coming; he rushed them towards the hospital and then they went back. They were told that everything was going well from what the people could tell, but they didn't fully know because this was a hybrid, in a way? This was all so crazy, and too much for him to handle, but he had to handle it! Dammit.  While he was sitting there, lost in thought, he heard his brother say, while judging his arm "Bro? Hey?" He shuts his eyes rubbing his temples and turns his head "What?! What do you want? I'm busy!" he shouts, knowing that some of the humans were looking at him, but he didn't care those people could look all they want. Red flinches away then points forward, making him look over to see a doctor standing there looking up at him, seeming nervous. Well damn... he squints at the doctor "how is my datemate?" He asks. The doctors eyes shoot away, biting the inside of their cheek most likely then they clear the inside of their throat "I'm... very sorry, but something's went wrong" they shift where they were standing. Edge squints and stands up looking down at the doctor "What did you do to them?" he got explained that the baby was able to live, but his datemate died making him frown. What the hell?
Yanberry- Finally! Yanberry was so happy to hear that his datemate was pregnant. He's been trying to do that for quite a bit of time now, you know? He wanted to get them pregnant, so they wouldn't be able to leave! Once they have children together, it'll be so much harder for his datemate to get away from him, if they ever wanted to. He has no idea why they'd want to though, he treated them so well! He loved them so much and would give them everything that they wanted to have. Plus, he saved them from their old boring life and now they live with him and his brother! He wouldn't just allow ANYONE to live with him like that. So, they should be happy to be with him. Now they were at the hospital! Yanberry didn't like the idea of his datemate being touched by some random person! But if that's needed, he'll do it for them. He was sitting in the waiting room telling everyone and every creature, just how excited he was! He couldn't believe that they were going to have a babybones, do you know how extraordinary it is for hybrids? Somehow, they had one. Well... two! Ahhh he's so excited! While he was sitting there, he heard the doctor come in, making him perk up looking over and he smiles when he saw the doctor so he hops up and heads over, putting his hands behind his back, smiling. "Greetings, human! I am very happy to see you! You see, I brought my wonderful datemate here. They're having my babybones and I'm wondering how long they'd need to be here?" He asks, trying to smile innocently. If he could take them home tonight, he'd be so happy! The doctor looked uncomfortable, though making him squint. "Well... Your ah... Datemate? Has succumbed to Maternal mortality. I'm sorry" Yanberry, of course, knew what that meant making his eyes widen just a little. What? Annoyance fills his body, then anger. He wanted to hurt this doctor but instead decided to do something else. He broke down, covering his eyes with his hands allowing tears to start to slip from behind his hands "Y-You killed... you killed my datemate!" he could feel eyes on him now, not that he cared. This was to get attention. The doctor tried to calm him down telling him that the babies lived! He was going to find out where this doctor lived and take them out himself. Nobody would know, but he was going to kill them violently... how dare this stupid human take away his datemate? Ugh. Maybe he can trick Chara into doing a reset! Who cares if they have to spend a bit more time in the underground? Yeah, he knew about it, shut up.

Perhaps #5 (Hold my Hand) with Papyton for the fic ask game if you are still doing it?
(I hope you're okay with me writing this as a sequel to one of my other papyton fics! This could still be read on its own, but it will make more sense if you read the first chapter. If you don't want to, just know that the part in italics at the beginning is from a fanfic that Alphys wrote.)
The Greatest Fanfiction of All: The Sequel
Rating: T Word Count: 1687 Read on AO3: here
---
Papyrus’s hands are warm. Of course they are. Theyre always covered in gloves. Not even Mettaton, his boyfriend of one month and thirteen days, knows what his bony phalanges look like beneath the plush red fabric.
But tonight, that's going to change.
xxx
Exactly one month and thirteen days had passed since Mettaton had read the beginning of Alphys’s “papyton” fanfiction. It also happened to be one month and thirteen days since Papyrus had agreed to be his boyfriend, sending him on a magical journey of love and romance.
That journey had given him plenty of new perspectives and discoveries. Yet the mystery of what lie under Papryus’s gloves was not one of them.
He sat next to Mettaton on their usual bench at the center of the hedge maze. The sky was dark with stormclouds, which kept any stray spectators away from the park. Papyrus was prepared, as usual; a tall MTT-Brand Umbrella leaned against his femur. Nothing and no one would ruin this moment.
Now Mettaton just needed to have the moment. Preferably without resorting to calling Alphys and Frisk again.
“METTATON? IS SOMETHING THE MATTER?” Papyrus asked, his browbone furrowing in concern.
Mettaton’s fingers were already laced through his; Mettaton rubbed his thumb against the back of Papyrus’s glove.
“Well. It is a very special day, darling.” Special enough that Mettaton had worn the outfit Papyrus loved most—a cropped shirt that said COOL ROBOT and galaxy-print leggings that hugged his metallic thighs. Papyrus himself had worn a bright Tetris shirt and shorts that exposed his gleaming femurs.
“IT IS?” Papyrus blinked. “IS THERE A SALE ON RIGATONI? BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT STARTED NEXT WEEK.”
“Hm? Oh—not that I know of, but I will keep that in mind.” He imagined creating a pasta bouquet for Papyrus, and a smile graced his lips. “Today is the one month and thirteen day anniversary of our glamorous romance.”
“WOWIE! TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE DATING A HOT ROBOT!” Papyrus grinned, pressing his teeth to Mettaton’s cheek in a close approximation of a kiss. “HAPPY ONE MONTH AND THIRTEEN DAYS, METTATON! IS THERE A SPECIAL WAY YOU WANT TO CELEBRATE?”
It was perfect. Mettaton couldn’t have set it up better if he tried.
“Actually…” He turned Papyrus’s hand over, examining every seam and stitch in his crimson glove. “I was hoping to see your hands. I know they’re just as handsome as the rest of you.”
He winked, and a light blush spread across Papyrus’s cheekbones.
“MY HANDS? I’D GLOVE TO! BUT, ERM…” His fingers disentangled from Mettatons, instead fidgeting nervously with the hem of his right glove. “I DON’T KNOW THAT YOU WOULD FIND THEM AS UNBEARABLY ATTRACTIVE AS THE REST OF ME.”
Coming from Papyrus, that was practically a statement of self-loathing. Guilt bubbled in Mettaton’s soul-tank.
“Beautiful.” He grasped the top of his boyfriend’s arms and squeezed them gently. “There is not a bone in your body that I would not find attractive. Of course, I will not ask you to perform if you are suffering stage fright, but I do think you shine so much brighter in the light.”
Papyrus smiled a little, though his browbone was still turned upward with worry.
"IF YOU'RE SURE…"
"Positive as my ratings, darling."
Papyrus nodded slowly. "I TRUST YOU, METTATON."
Those words were like ambrosia to Mettaton's soul. He would do anything to remain worthy of his boyfriend's trust.
"PLEASE, JUST… DON'T BE FRIGHTENED, ALRIGHT?"
Mettaton couldn't imagine anything about Papyrus being frightening.
Then, with agonizing care, Papyrus peeled off his gloves. And Mettaton understood.
The bones of his hands were scorched an ashen gray, nearly black. Hairline cracks laced through them like spiderwebs. Mettaton was half afraid that if he touched them, they would crumble to dust.
"I'M FINE, REALLY!" Papyrus must have noticed the look on his face, no matter how quickly Mettaton had schooled his expression. "THESE BURNS ARE SO OLD, I BARELY NOTICE THEY'RE THERE!"
His grin was strained. Mettaton wanted nothing more than to reach out and squeeze his hand, but he didn't dare.
"They don't hurt?" Mettaton asked, then winced. He could've phrased that more tactfully. It was probably better than asking how on earth the injury had happened, at least.
"WELL… THEY ARE A BIT SENSITIVE WITHOUT MY GLOVES. THEY HAVE HEALING MAGIC, YOU SEE." Papyrus held out one of his red gloves, his expression turning to one of pride. "SANS DID THE SEWING, AND I DID THE ENCHANTMENT."
"No wonder you love them so much." Mettaton smiled. It was adorable how much Papyrus loved his brother. Their love had inspired Mettaton to finally patch up his relationship with Blooky and Mew Mew.
Papyrus smiled back, running a charred fingertip fondly over the fabric. "WOULD YOU… LIKE TO TRY ONE ON?"
"Me?" Mettaton blinked.
"OF COURSE! WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO EXPERIENCE THE GREAT PAPYRUS'S LEGENDARY HEALING MAGIC FIRSTHAND?"
Mettaton chuckled at the pun. "How could I possibly refuse?"
He slipped off his white gloves, revealing the unsightly bolts in his own fingers. He hardly felt self-conscious about that after seeing Papyrus's hands, though.
Papyrus's glove fit like a dream. Like holding his hand, only from the inside. Warmth seeped from the fabric into his metal joints, slipping through his cracks like sweet oil.
"This is… quite the enchantment," he breathed.
Papyrus couldn’t be in pain with that much healing magic caressing his bones. But on the other hand, even the constant healing magic had failed to permanently erase the scars. Mettaton still wasn’t too familiar with physical injuries, but surely that wasn’t normal, right?
Papyrus’s wink sounded like magical glitter."WHAT CAN I SAY? I'M VERY ENCHANTING."
He looked just as bright as ever. Just as energetic, as full of life.
Just as beautiful, inside and out.
"That you are, darling." Mettaton kissed his cheek.
Papyrus pulled his left glove back onto his hand, then twined his fingers with Mettaton's. Red on red, warmth on warmth Their hands matched perfectly.
"YOU PROBABLY HAVE SOME QUESTIONS," Papyrus said quietly.
Mettaton's eye flickered to Papyrus's bare right hand before returning to his eyesockets.
"You don't have to tell me anything you don't feel comfortable with, darling."
Mettaton was curious of course. If this injury had been caused by another monster, they would face the wrath of a true killer robot. Knowing Papyrus, though, he had probably forgiven whoever was responsible.
"I ALWAYS FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH YOU." He smiled. "AND IT IS… NICE. TO HAVE SOMEONE BESIDES SANS KNOW THIS."
"No one else knows?" Mettaton’s eyes widened. He'd thought Undyne would have found out, whether Papyrus told her on purpose or she burned off his gloves during one of their cooking lessons.
"I AM A SKELETON OF MANY SECRETS." Papyrus winked again. This time it sounded like tinkling bells. "IT HELPS THAT NO ONE ELSE REMEMBERS THE ACCIDENT, THOUGH."
An accident. No one had hurt Papyrus on purpose.
Mettaton sighed in relief, powering down his killer robot protocols.
"I WAS HELPING MY DAD WITH HIS WORK ON THE CORE. I ALWAYS CALIBRATED THE PUZZLES WHILE HE CALIBRATED THE GEOTHERMAL POWER LEVELS."
Papyrus looked down at their tangled hands, his expression distant.
"I STILL DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. ON THE DAYS SANS REMEMBERS, HE PROMISES THAT IT WASN'T MY FAULT. THAT DAD WAS TOO CARELESS. BUT THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION, AND DAD, HE… HE FELL…"
Something in Mettaton crushed as Papyrus's voice cracked.
"I WAS LUCKIER. THE BLAST ONLY GOT MY HANDS." The smile returned.
"Papyrus…"
Mettaton didn't know what to say. What could he say? Ghosts didn't have parents. His cousins were his family, but he couldn't imagine them dying, either. Blooky physically couldn't.
But this wasn't about him! It was about Papyrus, who had lost his father and scarred his hands and still counted himself lucky.
"DON'T BE SAD, METTATON. IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO. LONGER THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE."
Papyrus looked into his eyes, and for a moment, Mettaton saw something old. Mettaton had been alive—albeit as a ghost—for nearly two centuries. Right now, though, Mettaton wondered if Papyrus was even older than that.
"I suppose so,” he reluctantly admitted. “I don't even remember an explosion at the CORE."
"OH, THAT'S NORMAL. APPARENTLY DAD WAS RATHER FORGETTABLE." His smile was sad. "EVEN SANS DOESN'T ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM. BUT I… WELL."
He closed his blackened fist.
"IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO FORGET."
Mettaton opened his mouth, but no sound came out. Luckily, it didn’t seem like Papyrus was looking for a response.
“WHEW! ALL THIS HONESTY IS EXHAUSTING!!” Sweat beaded on his skull. “DO YOU WANT TO GO GET NICE CREAMS?”
“Of course, darling, but—are you sure that you’re okay?” Mettaton couldn’t help the concern in his voice. It wasn’t every day that he unlocked his boyfriend’s tragic backstory.
And here he’d been so concerned about something as trivial as holding hands. He truly was as selfish as everyone believed.
“PLEASE, DON’T WORRY ABOUT ME,” Papyrus said firmly. His hand gave Mettaton’s a tight squeeze. “I MEANT IT WHEN I SAID IT WAS LONG AGO. PRACTICALLY A DIFFERENT LIFETIME. I ONLY TOLD YOU SO THAT YOU WOULD KNOW HOW MUCH I TRUST YOU.”
Trust. Mettaton trusted Papyrus, too. Trusted that he didn’t need Mettaton to coddle him. Trusted that if he wanted Mettaton’s help, he would ask for it.
“I… thank you, darling.” Ghostly tears welled in his eyes. “Your trust means everything to me.”
“WELL THEN!” Papyrus’s grin turned mischievous. “I TRUST YOU TO KISS ME UNTIL I CAN’T BREATHE!”
Mettaton’s fans whirred and whirred. The sound was quickly drowned out by the raindrops that began to fall and fizzle on his shoulder pads.
“Darling, you’re a skeleton. You don’t have lungs.”
“NEITHER DO YOU.” Papyrus twirled the umbrella before popping it open, protecting Mettaton from the threat of short-circuiting.
(From the rain, at least.)
“You truly know how to give me a challenge, darling.” Mettaton cuddled closer, reaching up to brush his red-gloved hand against Papyrus’s cheekbone.
“ONLY BECAUSE I KNOW YOU’LL RISE TO IT!”
Mettaton grinned back, and that was exactly what he did.

Note
character has a friend or SO and they live together. friend/SO goes on a plane trip, but before they left the friend little post-its everywhere and the character finds a few every day they're gone. some of them have little candies or chocolates attached. how does the character respond?
* i'll just use "you" to refer to friend/SO :]
Tumblr media
Muffet
Muffet spends a lot of time working, so she isn't at home very often. She spends less time at home in the days you're gone. Muffet knows it's just a plane trip, but can't help missing you.
On the second day of your trip, some of her spider companions bring a couple post-its with candy attached. The first note says, "I've hidden some post-its around the house, one for every day I'm gone. Don't overwork yourself, ok?"
She's keeping every single sticky note she finds. Muffet probably won't mention the notes you left, but will give you a long hug when you return. She isn't very physically affectionate, so this is a pleasant surprise.
Alphys
Alphys does something like this! She loves leaving notes around the house with daily reminders or nice messages written on them. When you leave for your trip, Alphys finds the first note on her closet door. Oh! That's why you were in her room... The note reads, "I took a page from your book and put some post-its around the house. Have fun while I'm gone :)"
She definitely needs a moment to process the wave of emotions that came from reading that note. After screaming into a pillow regaining her composure, Alphys will place the note in her personal diary and keep every one she finds.
On the day you return, Alphys will nervously gift you a bouquet of flowers. Just as a small thank you :)
Charcoal
"Whaaaat's that you got there?" A few days before your trip, Charcoal catches you writing on some sticky notes. If you try to hide them (or don't tell them what they're for), he'll quickly back off and won't push the subject.
"Are all those sweets for yourself too?" Charcoal adds, eyeing a small pile of candy. Please give him one lol. He has a bit of a sweet tooth and especially likes chocolate.
He finds a sticky note on the first day that you're gone, reading: "There's a bunch of post-its around the house. See if you can find them all ;)" Upon reading this, Charcoal would get the biggest grin on his face. He doesn't care how goofy he looks right now; you're just too cute.
Charcoal will keep every one he finds, and thank you for leaving the notes. "Would've died of loneliness if you hadn't left them."
Mockingbird
"What... are all those... notes for? For your... trip?" Mockingbird is a little curious about what you're writing, but will quickly back off if you try to hide them. He'll notice some candy nearby too, but won't mention it. No need to bother you further.
He'll forget about the notes by the time you leave for your trip. Until he finds one. Over the course of your trip, Mockingbird finds several more notes, placed in areas he frequents. Like by the door, there's one that reads "Have a nice day at work!" And on his closet is another reading "You look great today!"
Mockingbird probably won't mention the notes to you, but you will see them near his desk. They hang on the wall with a collection of framed photos

It’s Raining Somewhere Else
The One with a Pleasant Surprise
It wasn’t your alarm that woke you, but rather, your very needy and very annoying devil of a cat. He didn’t just wake you by pawing at you, no, but by attempting to suffocate you. You pushed him off, which he objected to rather loudly, and sat up in bed, spitting cat hair out of your mouth.
“Asshole,” you griped.
He stretched luxuriously, blinking at you with innocent eyes.
You got up and started about your morning, tidying your room a little, brewing coffee, getting Shade his breakfast, and eventually, sitting in front of the TV with a fresh cup of coffee. Paradise. Well, as close as you were going to get to that in your dingy little apartment with noisy neighbours and a shocking lack of natural light. Still, it was home.
Time marched on and soon it was almost lunchtime when you got a text from Undyne.
Be there soon, was all she said.
You hurried to get up and make sure you were ready to go. Today you would meet Alphys and hopefully make another friend. You really did not have many since you graduated school.
It wasn’t that you weren’t social, nor that you weren’t friendly, but you had trouble putting yourself out there. If they didn’t text you, then you usually didn’t text themsimple as that. As a result, though, you had fallen out of contact with many of your school friends. You didn’t blame them, knowing with a pinch of guilt that it was most likely your own fault, but it did make you lonely at times.
That was one reason you loved working at Grillby’s. It was a good opportunity for you to get out and socialise. Plus, you had started becoming actual friends with Jen, which made working with her all the more enjoyable. Not to mention, you probably would not have met Undyne and Papyrus if you hadn’t been out to explore the area around the bar that one day.
There was a sharp knock on the door, then a split-second passed, and a much more aggressive pounding started.
“HEY! PIPSQUEAK!”
You rushed over, opening the door to a grinning Undyne. She towered over you—it always surprised you just how big the monsters all were. There were a few species that were much smaller, some human-sized, others almost child-sized, but there were many that seemed as tall as trees. Okay, maybe not that large, but it definitely felt like they were giants.
Undyne, with her usual energy, stalked past you into the apartment, her one uncovered eye roving over every detail. For a moment, she looked quizzically at the large blue coat that Sans had left but she said nothing about it.
“Ready?”
“Yep!” You responded cheerfully.
A cab waited at the curb of the building, inside was a new monster, presumably Alphys. She looked shorter, somewhat like a lizard, or a dinosaur—you couldn’t really tell, and was absolutely engrossed in a manga that looked suspiciously like a shoujo. Undyne practically pranced into the cab, getting into the vehicle with an unexpected grace despite the fact that she had to hunch over to fit. You followed, closing the car door with a soft click.
The sun was out and the sky was clear. The weather always seemed to match the way you felt—or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, you couldn’t help but appreciate the nice weather, especially when it was still early spring.
“Kit, this is Alphys—my girlfriend.”
You smiled and waved, introducing yourself formally, before adding “but most people just call me Kit.”
Alphys gave a small smile and a little wave, before saying “N-nice to meet you.”
You didn’t know Undyne had a girlfriend—she had never mentioned it before! Although, to be honest, you hadn’t had many chats with her yet, so there was certainly a lot you didn’t know.
“What are you reading?”
Suddenly, Alphys was eager, rather than timid, as she gushed about the absolute cuteness overload of the manga she was reading. The rest of the cab ride was filled with a lengthy description of the characters and their troubles. You relaxed into the seat, your brief nerves about meeting a new friend absolutely gone.
 The restaurant was an unfamiliar one, still within Ebott, but not somewhere you had gone before. Undyne, helpfully, pointed out the park that you had visited not too long ago. It was nice, though you didn’t have the best sense of direction, so it did nothing to help orient yourself.
It looked like it was Italian themed, advertising some delicious looking pasta meals on the front windows. The inside was cosy, somewhat dimly lit, but inviting. Your hostess was a mild-mannered rabbit monster who led you to a table in the back where you could see Papyrus and someone else waiting.
The moment Papyrus saw you, he clambered up, bumping the table as he did. He paid no mind as he quickly ran up to scoop you into a hug.
“I AM SO GLAD YOU COULD COME! IT HAS BEEN SO LONG!”
You laughed, patting him awkwardly on the back while nodding in agreement, “thanks for inviting me.”
“OF COURSE! OH! HUMAN! I AM SO EXCITED. TODAY, YOU WILL MEET MY BROTHER!” And with that, he put you down, more gently than you expected, and turned to give the same treatment to Alphys, then to Undyne.
You smiled all the while, loving to see how genuinely happy he was to be with his friends.
The hostess had made herself scarce during the interaction and Papyrus was the one to lead you all to the table.
There, at the table, to your utmost surprise, was a very familiar face. He gave a casual wave, his lazy smile not moving an inch as you gaped at him.
“THIS IS MY LAZY BONES BROTHER, SANS.”
“she knows.”
“HE IS REALLY QUITE NICE ONCE YOU GET TO KNO—WHAT?” Papyrus looked shocked, then elated.
The group sat down, you ended up sitting beside Sans and Alphys, with Undyne and Papyrus at the other end of the round table.
“Uh, y-yeah! I have—we have met! I didn’t know you were brothers!” You said the last part with a pointed look at Sans, remembering just how vague he was when describing his brother and how intently he had looked at your phone when you got those messages.
“YES, WE ARE BROTHERS, GREAT BROTHERS, SOME OF THE GREATEST BROTHERS, IN FACT, HUMAN. WHEN SANS HEARD I WAS GOING TO GO MEET YOU, HE ASKED TO COME ALONG.”
This fact shocked you more than anything else, thus far. Sans was looking very intently at the menu, almost seeming to not hear his brother speak at all.
“Really?” was all that you could manage, surprise evident in your tone.
Undyne grinned toothily, “probably wanted to make sure you weren’t gonna be a bad influence on his little brother.”
You studied the two skeletons for a moment, taking in the differences in their frames, height, and general appearances. In your head, you smirked at the thought of Papyrus being called little in comparison to anyone, when he was a good head and shoulders taller than the already large Sans.
Outwardly you said, “Well, that’s just what good brothers do.”
The waiter came up to your table, a teenaged boy with dark hair and dark eyes, and asked if you needed anything, or if you were ready to order. You hadn’t even checked the menu yet, Alphys looked striken as she frantically scanned it herself, and you answered for the group.
“Just some waters for now, we need a couple of minutes, I think.”
“Cool,” he said and left.
“So,” you started, looking at the menu for yourself, “have you guys come here before? Any recommendations?”
“SPAGHETTI,” Papyrus supplied instantly. Undyne shrugged and Alphys shook her head.
“I-I try to get s-something different everyt-time, but I liked the ravioli.” She sounded so nervous, despite how confidently she had enlightened you to the twists and turns of her shoujo on the car ride here.
“I do like ravioli, but spaghetti also sounds good.”
Sans said nothing, he alternated between watching you and studying his own menu.
“I LIKE THE SPAGHETTI. IT IS THE ONLY DISH I GET.”
“Oh, I can’t decide,” you whined.
The waiter returned with waters, a pad of paper in his hand, “you ready?”
You nodded but asked to go last. Everyone ordered, Papyrus getting his favourite spaghetti, Undyne getting some shrimp dish, and Alphys getting something that you had never heard of before. Sans simply asked for a bottle of ketchup to be brought to the table, and then, it was your turn.
“I think I’ll get the ravioli…” you trailed off, noticing the little disappointed hunch in Papyrus’ shoulders, “actually—sorry, but I’ll also get spaghetti.”
At that, Papyrus straightened with a wide grin, “I BET YOU WILL LOVE IT, HUMAN.”
Sans, even, smiled a bit at that.
 Lunch was relatively uneventful—relatively, considering it was a lunch shared with two boisterous and loud monsters, a ketchup-loving fiend, and the shiest, nerdiest little lizard you had ever met. It was so much fun, though.
You were glad you got the spaghetti, since it seemed to mean so much to Papyrus, plus it ended up being delicious. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food, although Undyne kept looking around with a slightly sour face.
“Ugh, I hate being stared at.”
“there is a high pasta-bility that they’re looking at me,” Sans said, raising his ketchup bottle in a mock cheer.
Papyrus groaned, “PLEASE, SANS, YOU WILL MAKE ME LOSE MY APPETITE.”
“Bone appétit,” you added with a grin.
“NO. NOT YOU TOO.” Papyrus looked positively betrayed.
Undyne barked out a laugh, and Alphys looked between you and Sans with a gleam in her eye.
Sans chuckled, “you know you love it, don’t be so saucy, paps.”
“NO!” He protested.
“Doughn’t lose your head,” you grinned.
“STOP!”
The two of you continued to pun for a little longer and eventually, even Papyrus was smiling, despite himself. Undyne even tried to add into the fun, while Alphys watched in amusement at the group’s antics.
 “H-how did you meet Sans, K-Kit?” Alphys asked as you were all finishing your meals.
“Oh, uh, I work at Grillby’s! He’s kind of a regular.”
“yep,” Sans supplied helpfully.
“Yeah, I’ve met a lot of good people while working there,” you continued with a bright smile.
Sans took a sip of his ketchup.
Alphys nodded, “t-that’s cool.” She looked as though she had something else to say, but instead turned to Undyne and whispered in her ear.
Undyne snickered, glancing at you, “hey, Kit, are you free tomorrow?”
“Uhm, yeah, I think so, why?”
“I was wondering if you wanted to have a girl’s day.”
Papyrus looked scandalised, “WHAT!? I WANT TO COME.”
The fish-monster rolled her eyes good naturedly, “Paps, I said a girl’s day.”
“I CAN BE ONE OF THE GIRLS,” he retorted, “WE COULD DO FACE MASKS. THEY DO WONDERS FOR MY COMPLEXION.” As he said this, he struck a dramatic pose, and Undyne whistled her encouragement.
Alphys nudged her and Undyne coughed, “Er, yeah, I know. How about we plan another day to do some facemasks and watch movies?”
“THAT WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED.”
“So,” she continued as though she had not been interrupted, “you down?”
“To what?”
“Girl’s day.”
“Oh—yeah! I mean, I’m down for both of those events, I mean, unless of course I was not being invited to the second, in which case that’s embarrassing and I’m sorry for inviting myself like that—” you cut yourself off, a little flustered at being so presumptive.
“W-what?” Alphys spoke up, “O-of course you are invited t-to both g-gatherings.”
You nodded sheepishly, “t-thanks. I would love to come.”
Sans watched all of this with a quiet curiosity, then turned to Papyrus, “don’t worry, you don’t have to be bonely tomorrow, you got me.”
“UGH.”
Soon, it was time to go, but you felt so reluctant to leave the company of your friends. Still, at least you had something to look forward to tomorrow.
Papyrus paid for the meal, giving you another hug before leaving, while Sans lingered for a moment. Alphys and Undyne had already stepped outside to call another cab for the three of you.
“paps really admires you.”
You blushed, feeling pleased, “really? Well, that means a lot, he’s a really cool guy.”
At that, Sans seemed to beam, before saying fondly, “yeah, he is a really cool guy.”
“I guess it runs in your family,” you said with a small smile.
“guess so,” he paused, as though contemplating something, “i didn’t know you knew paps.”
“I didn’t know you knew Papyrus.”
“how many skeletons do you think there are?”
“Is this the setup to a joke?”
“no.”
“I don’t know—I thought there was a chance you could be related, but it felt rude to assume that.”
“well, it isn’t a wrong assumption.”
“How many skeletons are there?”
“you’ve met them all.”
That gave you some pause. You knew about the many different species of monsters from the Underground and that there were some that were rarer than others—but two? Two!? You had somehow managed to meet the only two skeleton monsters?
“Really?”
“yeah,” he shrugged.
He started to walk away, but called over his shoulder, “watch yourself, kit. if you hurt my brother, you will have a bad time.” His tone never changed, but the white pupils in his eyes shrank infinitesimally.
You swallowed thickly, feeling a mixture of dismay and something close to hurt, before responding, “I would never want to hurt someone, but especially not him.”
He nodded, continued to walk, then stopped short of the door, “you should make more of that ketchup soon.”
And he was gone. Quickly, you gathered your things from the table and followed suit, finding Undyne and Alphys waiting outside for you. Sans and Papyrus were nowhere to be seen.

Internal Conflict
Note: Sorry for the wait, everyone! Anyway, onto the fic!
Handplates belongs to: @zarla-s
Summary: Sam is conflicted. They want to make their family and friends truly happy but it comes at a severe cost. Will the Human be able to go through with their plan?
    “*You ask Flowey if he thinks this is a bad idea...”
    “𝚈𝚎𝚜, 𝚢𝚎𝚜 𝙸 𝚍𝚘. 𝙸𝚗 𝚏𝚊𝚌𝚝, 𝚒𝚝 𝚖𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝚔𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚒𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚌𝚎𝚜𝚜.~”
     Sam picked their head up from the desk they were sitting at to stare at Flowey with a tired expression. They know that the plant was just joking, probably, but he was right. This idea could very well get them hurt, or possibly worse. That’s why the Human chose to wait until Gaster was at work to do this with Flowey. It was honestly going nowhere and Sam was reminded that they hadn’t ate anything since breakfast when the brothers suddenly came in the room while they were cleaning off the desk.
    “PARENTAL UNIT, TOBY IS TRYING TO CHEW DAD’S SLIPPERS AGAIN!”
    “i thought it was funny, but paps said we should tell you about it.”
    “*Oh, right...it’s probably time for lunch then.”
     Sam got up and grabbed Flowey’s flower pot before heading downstairs to the kitchen with the brothers. They ended up having to wrestle their boyfriend’s shoes away from Toby before any lasting damage could be done to them. After that, Sam was soon in the kitchen making everyone grilled cheese sandwiches with Flowey sitting on a nearby counter watching them. The plant immediately noticed a change in demeanor in the Human. They weren’t as talkative as they would be with him. Flowey was going to ignore Sam when he realized just how vulnerable they were at the moment. Flowey smiles sadistically to himself before giving Sam one of his innocent smiles.
    “𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚕𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚎𝚍, 𝚂𝚊𝚖!~ 𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚠𝚎 𝚝𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚊 𝚕𝚘𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝚠𝚊𝚕𝚔 𝚒𝚗 𝚂𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚍𝚒𝚗 𝙵𝚘𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚝?~ 𝙹𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞...𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚖𝚎?~”
    “*You tell Flowey that you would love to, but you’ll have to wait until Gaster comes to watch the brothers...”
      Flowey grumbled in response but begrudgingly nodded as the Human called the brothers for lunch. He continued to smile to himself though. Sam was probably more stupid and naive than he thought...
~~~~~~
     When Gaster came home, his presence was immediately greeted with a large hug by Sam and the brothers and his ankle being bitten by Toby. The skeleton sighed as he shook the pup off before hugging his lover and sons back.
    “*You welcome Gaster back home and ask him if he wants to take a walk with you and Flowey.”
     Flowey couldn’t help but jolt with fear when he heard Sam ask that. He definitely didn’t need that overprotective scientist interfering, especially since Gaster didn’t exactly trust the plant being around the Human. Much to his relief however, the skeleton politely declined his lover’s offer, mentioning some reports he needed to finish for Alphys. Sam was disappointed at first but was soon grabbing their ‘borrowed’ hoodie and telling Gaster they’ll be back later before heading out with Flowey.
     The wind was blowing harder than usual in Snowdin and Sam shivered as the chilly air blew against their face, which was no doubt going to be red from the cold soon. Snow crunched under Sam’s feet as they carried Flowey to Snowdin Forest. Even he had to admit that it was unusually windy and cold that day. Flowey couldn’t let himself get distracted though. He extended his vines to wrap them around Sam when the flower’s pot was suddenly placed down on the snowy ground. He sputtered a bit before yelling at the Human as they knocked on the Ruins Door.
    "𝚆𝚊𝚒𝚝...𝚆𝚑𝚢 𝚍𝚒𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎?!"
    “*You wanted to visit Toriel today of course! It’s been a while since you’ve seen her...”
    "𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚌𝚊𝚗'𝚝 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝-"
     Flowey was interrupted by Toriel’s cheerful voice calling out to ask if that was Sam outside. The Human happily called back that it was and after a moment of silence, the Ruins’ entrance was opened to reveal a smiling Toriel. Sam was quickly scooped up in a giant hug from the tall goat. Flowey was left sulking as Toriel carried Sam inside to her house.
     Sam was brought directly to the kitchen which was filled with the smell of a familiar pie. Sam’s mouth was practically watering as a piece of said pie was placed in front of them. The goat monster smiled warmly as she watched the Human happily enjoyed the pie.
    “It’s been a while since your last visit, my child. You haven’t been overworking yourself like a certain someone, have you?”
    “*You swallow before telling her that you’ve just been busy, you guess...”
     The Human had honestly wanted to ask Toriel a few questions about her past like Flowey had recommended. However, they figured that asking those types of question might be rude, especially since the goat monster seemed so happy to see them. It would spoil the mood in Sam’s opinion. Instead, Sam decided to ask for advice since Toriel was probably the only one they could turn to at this point with something like this. Setting down their fork after finishing their pie, the Human watched as the goat monster took the plate and fork to wash.
    “*You ask Tori if you can ask her a question...”
    “Of course, Sam. What is it?”
    “*Well, if you know a way that could help your friends and family, but you think it might also hurt them at the same time, what should you do?”
     Toriel stopped washing immediately and turned to face Sam. They looked serious about the question, but she wasn’t sure if she should help them. Their question sounded oddly specific and the goat monster hoped her suspicions about it were going to be wrong. So instead, she sighed and walked over to the Human, rubbing the top of their head with her hand.
    “My child, don’t you think that if it’s going to hurt them, it’s probably not a good idea, is it?”
    “*Yea, but-”
    “Enough of this talk then...Gaster must be getting worried about you by now. How about I give you a piece of butterscotch cinnamon pie and send you on your way home?”
     Toriel admitted that she sounded a bit panicked as she walked Sam towards the exit. It was probably for the best though, hopefully...
(Later That Night...)
     The Human slipped out through the front door into Snowdin, where the wind was howling loudly. They had to make sure they didn’t wake up anyone in the house. Once the door was shut behind them, Sam trekked through the surprisingly deep snow towards the exit out of Snowdin. Sam shivered as they hugged themselves to keep warm from the harsh snowfall and wind. The town wasn’t usually this cold, was it?
    “*This is probably a bad idea like Toriel and Flowey had said, but you’re doing this for everyone’s sake! ...Right?”
     Sam suddenly stopped dead in their tracks, tears threatening to spill from their eyes. Sam felt like their knees were going to give out on them at any second. What...What were they thinking? The Human had been so caught on wanting to make all their friends and family happy, they weren’t thinking about how this could affect them. They were just being selfish at this point. Shaking from both the cold and fear, Sam turned around and rushed back towards the house. The wind had really picked up at this point, blowing snow directly into the Human’s face.
     When Sam eventually got into the house after fighting against wind, they immediately noticed Gaster standing there, presumably waiting for them. Sam could see that he was relieved to see them. The skeleton quickly walked over and hugged his joyfriend tightly despite how cold they were from being outside.
    “Sam, why on earth are you going out this late at night? Especially since there’s suppose to be a strong blizzard tonight...”
    “*Oh! You were just um, taking a quick walk because you couldn’t sleep...”
    “Still, you should’ve made sure it’s safe enough to go outside before you do. You could’ve gotten severe frostbite...or worse.”
     Sam’s eyes became downcast as a still lecturing Gaster carried them back to the bedroom, tears running down their freckled cheeks. They weren’t ready to leave yet. They would miss hearing Gaster’s lectures towards too much...
    ‘*Yea...you know...”
Note: Thank you everyone for waiting patiently while I wrote this! Thank you everyone so much for reading! I hope you all enjoyed reading this fic! I love all of you so much! Requests are always welcomed! Stay tuned for more.
Sans disappeared sometimes.
This was a fact of life that Papyrus had come to accept. Sans disappeared into the workshop under their house, into the forest, into the Hotlands. Sometimes Papyrus would find him in the morning, asleep half-way up the stairs. Other times, Alphys would find him sleeping in her lab and call Papyrus to come pick him up. Some mornings, Grillby would walk Sans home, three polite knocks announcing their arrival and scorching the wooden door.
Papyrus worried.
This, too, was a fact of life. Papyrus worried about his brother’s HP; Sans had never let him see the exact number, but Papyrus knew that it was low. Papyrus worried about the way his brother slept away every hour that he could, his eyes half-focused and hazy as he stumbled from nap to nap. And no matter how many times Sans vanished and reappeared safe and sound, Papyrus worried every single second that he was gone.
Two nights ago, Sans had disappeared out the door after dinner, and he hadn’t come back. Papyrus had kept an eye on his sentry stations (or hot dog stands) and did his best to remind himself that Sans always, always came back safe.
By the third morning, Papyrus couldn’t focus on his patrols or his exercises or his puzzles, the worry a constant distraction. He couldn’t wait any longer; he needed to find his brother.
His first stop was Grillby’s. Grillby said that he hadn’t seen Sans in a few days, and Papyrus’s anxiety twisted tighter around his ribs. When Sans wasn’t eating at Grillby’s, he usually wasn’t eating at all.
Papyrus’s second stop was Sans’s bedroom, holding his scarf over his lack of a nose. It was as dirty as ever, the bed too messy to judge how recently it had been used, the trash tornado still spinning away. Nothing unusual, and no way to know if Sans had been here.
Papyrus closed the door with a sigh.
There was one last place to check before he had to venture outside of Snoden, and Sans wouldn’t be happy about it. He hated it when Papyrus went into his workshop, but three days was enough time that Papyrus was determined to do whatever it took.
One carefully shaped bone attack let Papyrus pick the lock on the workshop door, and soon he was stepping onto the rotting wooden steps that led to their basement.
He could immediately see that the lights were on down there, and he made his way down quickly, caught between relief and anger as he caught sight of his brother’s familiar sweater flung over the back of a chair.
“go away, papyrus.” Sans’s voice was rougher than usual, and Papyrus took a moment to look around at the space. The couch had been slept on, and there were empty bags of chips scattered across the floor. Sans was crouched on the other side of the room, dressed in a dirty white shirt. The mysterious machine was in front of him, a panel open to show the gears and circuitry inside. Sans wasn’t looking at Papyrus, running his fingerbones over the parts of the machine.
“SANS! IT HAS BEEN THREE DAYS SINCE YOU’VE BEEN AT YOUR SENTRY POSTS!”
“yeah, i know… i’m busy, pap.” Sans’s voice was flat, his face still turned away from Papyrus.
“BROTHER…” Papyrus searched for something to say. “THIS ISN’T HEALTHY! YOU SHOULD COME UP FOR DINNER.”
“i’ll come up later. soon.” Papyrus wished that Sans would look at him. The worry was back, familiar and uncomfortable.
“WHEN THE GREAT PAPYUS EXTENDS A DINNER INVITATION, IT DOES NOT GET TURNED DOWN!” Papyrus tried. Referring to himself in third-person usually made the corners of Sans’s eye sockets crinkle. But today, he just kept facing the machine in the corner.
“sorry, bro. another time.”
It was the lack of puns that finally pushed Papyrus over the edge. His use of ‘turned down’ should have gotten a bad joke, at least, and there were the million things that Sans could have said about his work ethic, but instead it was just these monotone statements. Something was wrong. Papyrus knew from experience that Sans didn’t like talking about the things that bothered him, so trying to make him talk would only make things he was worse. But he was The Great Papyrus! He must, must be able to fix this!
It was with that final thought that Papyrus strode forwards and wrapped his arms around his brother from the back. He gave Sans a moment to register what was about to happen: enough time for Sans to pull his hands out of the machine gears, but not enough time for him to slip out of Papyrus’s grip.
And then Papyrus hoisted him up into the air.
Sans was easy to pick up; for all his width, he was still made of bones and magic, just like Papyrus. Papyrus took a moment to adjust his grip, flipping Sans around so that he was settled on Papyrus’s hip, and then started carrying his big brother towards the stairs.
“wh- hey! papyrus, put me down!” Sans’s objections went unheeded as Papyrus climbed the stairs to the outside, his only response to wrap his arms tighter around Sans as he struggled.
“YOU CAN GO BACK TO YOUR WORK TOMORROW,” Papyrus informed him, marching to the front of the house and trying to get the door open before anyone could walk by and see the odd scene. It took a few moments for him to manage the still-wriggling Sans and the doorknob, but soon enough he was stepping into the house. “FOR NOW, I AM GOING TO MAKE YOU A MEAL AND YOU ARE GOING TO EAT IT!”
“pap- i don’t want -” Sans was still pushing against Papyrus’s shoulders, but his efforts were weaker than Papyrus had expected. Sans could have avoided Papyrus from the beginning, if he’d been anything close to his normal speed. The fact that he couldn’t get free of Papyrus’s grip made Papyrus even more sure that he’d done the right thing bringing Sans up.
“papyrus, put me down!” Even if Sans himself didn’t agree.
“SHUSH.” Papyrus ran his gloved fingers lightly over the back of Sans’s skull, a calming gesture that he remembered Sans using on him when he’d been younger. “TAKE A BREAK, SANS. YOU NEED IT.”
Papyrus didn’t know if it was the words or the slow petting motion, but Sans suddenly slumped against his shoulder, his hands holding onto Papyrus’s scarf instead of trying to push him away. Papyrus felt his arms starting to get tired; made of bones or not, Sans was still a full-grown monster and Papyrus had carried him up a flight of stairs.
Papyrus made his way over to the couch and sat down. He tried to let Sans go, but Sans continued to hang onto Papyrus’s scarf, hiding his face against his chest-plate. Papyrus gave him a second to move away, and when Sans didn’t, he carefully gathered his big brother onto his lap and wrapped his arms around him.
Cuddling wasn’t rare for the two brothers, curled up on the couch watching TV after a long day at work (for Papyrus) or a long day of naps (for Sans). This felt different, though, like something precious that Papyrus had to be careful with.
He slipped off his gloves and resumed the petting of Sans’s skull, his bare phalanges rasping against the curves and raised lines of bone. Sans relaxed even more against him, a low sound like a hum coming out of his chest, vibrating against Papyrus’s ribs. Sans’s head turned into the touch, enough that Papyrus could see his face.
Sans was dirty with sweat and dust from the machinery. The shadows beneath his eyes were even deeper than they normally were, almost as though they had been carved into his skull. Despite that, his eyes were now closed and his face was peaceful.
“I MISSED YOU,” Papyrus found himself admitting, running his fingers over Sans’s zygomatic bones and gently over the nasal cavity.
“missed you too.” Sans’s voice was sleepy, distant and low.
“I WISH YOU HAD TOLD ME YOU WOULD BE AWAY SO LONG. I COULD HAVE BROUGHT YOU FOOD.”
“i like food,” Sans told him, rubbing one cheek on Papyrus’s chest-piece.
“AND ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS MADE BY THE GREAT PAPYRUS!” Papyrus said, pressing his free hand to his chest proudly, unwilling to take his hand off of Sans when he was so obviously enjoying the petting.
Sans nodded against Papyrus. Papyrus could tell that he was halfway to falling asleep, so he decided that food could wait until after a nap.
“DO YOU WANT TO SLEEP ON THE COUCH, OR IN YOUR BED?”
“race car,” he heard Sans reply, muffled against Papyrus’s chest.
“YOU WANT TO SLEEP IN MY BED? IT IS THE COOLEST BED!”
He felt Sans nod. “story,” Sans said.
“YOU WANT… ME TO READ YOU A BEDTIME STORY?” Papyrus’s bed was where they curled up every night so that Sans could read Papyrus his favourite book before bed, Peek-A-Boo with Fluffy Bunny. Papyrus had never, ever read Sans a bedtime story. But Sans seemed so sleepily certain that this was the way things should be, and he was finally relaxed and agreeable to being dragged away from his work…. And in the end, there wasn’t a single thing that Papyrus wasn’t willing to do for his brother.
“not th’ bunny one,” Sans muttered.
“YOU DON’T WANT TO HEAR PEEK-A-BOO WITH FLUFFY BUNNY?” Papyrus asked, somewhat affronted.
“s’your book. i want a different book.”
“WELL, ALRIGHT! I’LL FIND YOU A BOOK, BUT LET’S GET UP TO BED FIRST. CAN YOU WALK?” Papyrus felt Sans shake his head. “ALRIGHT, LAZYBONES. UP WE GO!”
He scooped Sans up in his arms with a flourish, and Sans actually laughed, not his usual low chuckle but a higher giggle that Papyrus hadn’t heard from him in years and years and years. It made Papyrus hug his brother tight for a long moment, trying not to think about how much they had been through together.
When he could loosen his grip, Papyrus got up from the couch and settled Sans back on his hip, a motion becoming more familiar. The stairs were easy enough, but he paused at the top of the stairs.
“SANS, YOU’RE VERY DIRTY! PERHAPS YOU SHOULD TAKE A BATH BEFORE GOING TO BED!” Sans shook his head vigorously.
“bath later,” he told Papyrus, his voice certain. “bedtime now.”
Papyrus obediently headed for the bedroom, resigning himself to washing his sheets when Sans woke up. It was hard to get the door open with his brother in his arms, but much easier now that said brother wasn’t squirming with all of his strength.
He deposited Sans on the bed, disentangling his hands from his scarf gently. “TAKE OFF YOUR FILTHY CLOTHES AND I WILL FIND YOU NEW ONES,” Papyrus instructed, and stayed around long enough to see Sans start to slip off his shirt before he made his way to Sans’s room.
Inside, it was hard to distinguish the clean clothes from the dirty ones. Sans’s dresser drawers were completely empty, all of the clothing in piles on the floor. Eventually, Papyrus found a stack of clothes that seemed cleaner than the others and picked out a shirt and a pair of shorts.
Sans was tucked under the covers when Papyrus returned, but he’d turned on the side-lamp that they always used for light when it was time for Papyrus’s bedtime story. Papyrus put the clothes on the pillow beside Sans and turned around to give him privacy. He was facing the bookshelf, so he focused on the spines of the books, trying to pick one that would be suitable for Sans.
There, a battered old human book that had fallen down with the trash. Sans had found it and brought it to Papyrus, saying that it reminded him of Papyrus because it had rabbits in it, just like Peek-A-Boo with Fluffy Bunny. Papyrus was smart enough to know what Sans was actually saying, and had kept it all of these years. He took it off the shelf now, and turned around to see Sans dressed in his clean clothes and sat upright in bed, halfway between sleepy and expectant.
“ALRIGHT, SCOOT IN CLOSE,” Papyrus said as he sat down, mirroring Sans’s routine and putting out an arm. Sans pressed close into Papyrus’s side, resting his skull on Papyrus’s shoulder-pad. “NOW, THIS BOOK IS CALLED ‘GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU.’ ARE YOU READY?”
“ready.” Sans put one of his hands on the cover of the book, tracing the deep scars left by its long fall from the human world above. Papyrus carefully opened the story to the first page, and began to read.
By the end of the book, Sans was snoring loudly. Papyrus read the last few pages as softly as he could and put the book on the bedside table. In the soft glow of the lamp, Sans looked peaceful. Papyrus hoped that he would sleep well here, and that he would still be in the mood for Papyrus to take care of him when he woke up.
In the meantime, Papyrus had spaghetti to prepare.
--
Here’s an animated video of ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ if you don’t know the book already! It’s one of my favourites and it makes me cry because it’s that sweet.
Of course, neither Sans nor Papyrus has seen the moon, but when they get out from under the mountain, I promise that both of them think about the end of ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ every time they look up at it.
Alola, Alola P5! (SM/USUM Drabble)
Tumblr media
Part 5 of the collab between me and @littleirishdruid! As always, I hope you enjoy love!
 Also, for the sake of this drabble, I’m going to add that you can spot whether a Salandit is male of female based on the patterns on their backs!
Tumblr media
The sun gleamed brightly above the rippling waters. Alphy and Runa sat hunched over the side of the boat, starring in awe at the wild Pokemon that swam close to the surface.
Raikichi and Alex sat by them both and watched carefully. After the incident which occurred the day before... they both decided they would not take any chances... and opted to keep an eye on their children at all times.
“Say... I hope I can finally head over to Wela Volcano today...”
Raikichi commented absentmindedly, drawing in Alex’s attention.
“Oh? What do you mean by that?”
She asked, stroking the soft yet spiked tufts of golden fur belonging to her Jolteon, which was curled up in her lap.
“I... well... it may sound a bit silly... but I have a fear of it...”
She mumbled, making her Glaceon purr and nestle closer at her feet.
“Do you mind if I ask why?”
Alola’s champion asked, making Raikichi smile and wave her hand, dismissing Alex’s fears.
“I don’t mind I just... well... back when I was on my journey here... I nearly fell to my death in the volcano when I saved a former Team Skull Grunt. I’ve been afraid of the place ever since...”
Raikichi shuddered at the memory. Her body slightly tense. Alex placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and glaceon howled softly and nuzzled into it’s trainers leg.
“Oh Raikichi... I-I’m sorry to hear that...”
Alex mumbled, and Raikichi’s stiff figure softened.
“Thank you.”
She said, and as she did Piers came up behind her and hugged her shoulders.
“Don’t worry now babe... cause I’ll be right there to protect ya! These hands aren’t here for nothing!”
He joked, proceeding to grab one of Raikichi’s hand, letting her insecurity and past memories melt away in an instant.
“Oh you!”
She grinned, laughing lightly as the children scampered over to the front of the boat.
“We’re here!”
The children cried simultaneously. As the boat dipped toward the soft sand, Alphy and Runa hopped off and began to run ahead.
“W-wait up you two!”
Piers cried, chasing after both of them. Both Raikichi and Alex laughed, also getting off the boat and settling down on the ground before heading off after the three.
...
When they reached Wela Volcano Park, Raikichi gulped and gripped Piers’ hand, slowly walking ahead together. Alex kept an eye on the kids as they trailed behind the couple.
Guzma had opted to stay at home this particular day, saying he wanted to test out his newly earned Z-Power ring.
Though, that was not the biggest concern Alola’s champion faced now. In truth, Alphy was indeed scared of most fire types... as he had always wanted to use bug type Pokemon, just like Guzma.
The only fire type Pokemon he could be left around for long periods of time were Alex’s two Arcanine... and even then, Alphy had refused to play with them for the longest time.
As Alex and the children caught up with Raikichi and Piers, the two noticed the champion’s worried expression.
“Don’t tell me Alphy’s afraid too?”
Raikichi questioned, earning a nod from Alex.
“I hope he’ll be alright... I would’ve left him with Guzma... but he said he wanted to go with Runa!”
She hummed, and the couple nodded, signaling their understanding.
“Don’t worry, we’ll all keep our eyes out for them!”
Piers reassured the other adults, and they all agreed.
...
This time, Alphy and Runa stayed within eyesight for their parents. They both felt bad about worrying them the night before... but they still did want to explore the park.
As the two sifted through the dusty tall grass... Runa noticed Alphy’s growing discomfort.
“Whats the matter?”
She asked sweetly, and Alphy sighed.
“I... I’m not the best around fire type Pokemon...”
He mumbled, and Runa paused for a moment, tapping a finger to her chin while she thought about it.
After a few moments, she stopped and smiled at him.
“That’s okay! It’s because you like bug types right?”
She reassured him, popping the question at the end. The boy nodded.
“Yeah... sorry about it...”
He apologized, sheepishly scratching at the back of his neck.
“It’s no problem! Really!”
The girl replied, and she grabbed him by the hand to pull him along as their parents called to them that they were heading further up the volcano.
...
About half an hour into the trip, the group reached the top of the volcano, where they sat to watch a dance performance from Kiawe and his Alolan Marowak.
It was short and simple, but entertaining too! And as the dance ended, Raikichi, Alex, and Piers stood to talk with the trial captain for a bit.
“We’re gonna start to head down the mountain!”
Runa called as her and Alphy began their trip.
“Alright you two! But remember, stay where we can see you!”
Raikichi called nervously, Piers gave her hand a squeeze of reassurance, though deep down, he was worried for them too.
“Will they... be alright?”
Alex asked Kiawe, and he nodded with a small smile.
“The wild Pokemon are rather peaceful... as long as they stay within eyesight as you said, they should be fine.”
He informed the three, though the two children always seemed to find themselves in some sort of situation.
...
“Alphy look!”
Runa whispered to the boy, poking her head through the tall grass, a Pokemon had caught her eye, and Alphy rustled up next to her and looked out to see it too.
“Woah!”
He gasped as his eyes fell upon the creature. It was a wild shiny Salandit! The white coloring of it’s body indicating it was in fact a shiny.
“Its so pretty...”
Runa gaped in awe, Alphy’s eyes widened as the Pokemon turned.
“Look look! See those red patterns on its back?”
He asked, and Runa nodded.
“That’s a female Salandit! Only females can evolve!”
He exclaimed as softly as possible. Runa’s eyes widened.
“Really?”
“Yeah! You should go and try to catch it!”
Alphy suggested, and Runa dug her hands into her pockets.
“But I don’t have any Pokeballs...”
She mumbled. Alphy nodded, but then began to rummage through his bag.
“Alphy you don’t have t-”
“No no! Its what friends do!”
He grinned, and pressed two items into Runa’s hands. When she looked at them, she was an oran berry and a great ball.
“Here... now slowly go over to it and offer it the berry! That should make it like you! And then, use the great ball to capture it!”
he informed her, and with a nod she slowly emerged from the grass toward the Pokemon.
“Hey there...”
She smiled, slowly moving forward, the Salandit backed up cautiously, but Runa still smiled and slowly placed the berry down.
“For you!”
She beamed, delighted to see the shiny crawl closer and inspect the berry. Then, it took a smile bite, chewed, then cried out happily!
“You look really pretty... do you wanna come along with me and my friend?”
She asked, and instead of giving an answer, the wild Salandit crawled closer, nudging the great ball in Runa’s hand.
“You do?”
She questioned, and it nodded.
“Oh, thank you!”
She grinned, the Salandit pressed the button on the Pokeball, allowing itself to be caught. The ball rolled three times in the girl’s hand before it clicked, signaling the Pokemon had been caught!
“Nice work Runa!”
Alphy cheered, exiting the tall grass and running over.
“Thanks!”
She replied, releasing the Pokemon from the ball, it cried out happily and crawled into her hands.
“Are you afraid of this fire type?”
She teased the boy next to her, laughing when his face grew a bit red.
“N-no!”
He retorted, the blush still there.
“Hey! You two!”
They suddenly heard. Raikichi, Alex, and Piers had started to head down the Volcano.
“Mommy, Daddy look!”
She called, running up to them, her new Pokemon calling out again in happiness.
“Thats a-”
Piers started.
“Shiny Salandit!”
Alex piped halfway through, cutting off his sentence. Raikichi bent down and carefully examined the red stripes on the Pokemon’s back.
“And a female one too!”
She exclaimed, flashing her daughter a bright and proud smile as she bent down and ruffled her hair.
“Nice job kiddo! Now you take good care of that Pokemon ya hear?”
Piers informed her, and Runa nodded.
“Yes Daddy!”
She beamed, and the punk rocker lifted his daughter up into his arms, smiling when she laughed. Now settled on her shoulder, the newly caught salandit cried out happily once more.
“I’d say its getting late, we should probably head back now.”
Raikichi commented, Alex nodded and hoisted Alphy up into her arms, letting him rest a bit as they began to walk.
...
“So... how was it?”
Alex asked Raikichi on the way back. Runa and Alphy had fallen asleep, the salandit curled up next to it’s new trainer. Piers watched the two carefully, a soft smile on his face.
“Well... I didn’t almost fall into lava this time... and instead I saw a wonderfully talented dance so... I’m happy!”
The word-champion grinned, making Alex smile.
“Good, I’m glad!”
She exclaimed.
“My fear has gone... thank you for accompanying us today.”
She grinned, and Alex nodded, a smile on her once face, though this one was bigger than the one she had seconds before.
As boat pulled up toward Melemele’s port, the two helped each other down, and then the children, carrying them home with the help of Piers.
The skeletons are planning on watching the Barbie / Oppenheimer movie! Which of the skellies are watching the barbie movie or the Oppenheimer? Which of them goes to the cinemas? Who's the one fighting for the big screen TV that one of them has in their house?? (probably Nox or Edge would have one but how would I know) And what will they be watching first???
Undertale Sans - Definitely Oppenheimer. Science guys go see scientists movies. He goes to the cinemas and he's really into it. He still goes to see Barbie right after with his bro though.
Undertale Papyrus - He's going to see Barbie in the cinemas with Sans, Undyne and Alphys. After this movie, he feels Kenough and won't stop singing I'm a Barbie girl for hours with Undyne. He secretly goes to see Oppenheimer after that because Sans wouldn't shut up about the movie and actually liked it too.
Underswap Sans - None, he hates just sitting for two hours doing nothing. He'll catch the movies later when they'll be out for download to watch during he's exercising.
Underswap Papyrus - He went to see Barbie to the cinemas and cried like a baby at the end, hugging the random stranger next to him for comfort.
Underfell Sans - Oppenheimer, obviously. He's not interested in Barbie, all this pink is making him blind. He goes to the cinemas.
Underfell Papyrus - Oppenheimer, obviously. He's way too great to watch some doll dumb movies. That's what he said to the ticket seller at the cinemas, before entering and running to go see Barbie before anyone notice.
Horrortale Sans - He's watching Oppenheimer from home... But he's way too cozy and so tired that, you know, he kinda fall asleep after 20 minutes or something. He can't even tell what's the movie was about.
Horrortale Papyrus - He goes to see both to the cinemas. First Oppenheimer with Toriel, then Barbie with Grillby. He had more fun with the Barbie movie though.
Swapfell Sans - He watches Oppenheimer from home. He's fascinated about how humanity is able to destroy itself and that's not even the fault of the war against the monsters. Kinda scary. But he loves it.
Swapfell Papyrus - He dragged Alphys along and convinced her they were going to see Oppenheimer because she didn't want to see Barbie. Sure, she got suspicious when Rus showed up wearing only bright pink and a blond hair wig, but he assured her he was just feeling wearing this today. Surprisingly, they both ended watching Barbie. Who could have guessed?
Fellswap Gold Sans - He watched both at home. He didn't like Oppenheimer and thinks Barbie was boring. He then said that to the old lady living next to his house and she beat him to death, screaming he knows nothing about great human movies. Well of course he doesn't, he hates humans. The police hears that, thinks he's assaulting the old lady and arrests him. Well shit.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He was going to see Barbie but picked the room wrong and somehow ended in the Oppenheimer movie room. At the end of the movie, he's in fetal position in his seat, wanting to cry. He goes back to see Barbie the next week and felt a lot better.
Frisk was confused, to say the least.
It had only been 4 days, but to Frisk she was stuck in the hospital for an eternity. She was bombarded by everyone who cared enough about her to visit her in the hospital, which was basically the whole town (or at least, it felt like it to Frisk). Monsters of all kinds came to see her, claiming she was their "savior". Was she supposed to know them? Whenever she tried to remember anything, her mind was completely blank, apart from the headache she got from trying too hard. To her, it was as if nothing had happened before her "accident". As if she just woke up in the hospital and that was that. If it wasn't for the people visiting her, it would've been as if she hadn't even existed before then.
It took the poor girl a while to adjust. For one thing, there were a lot of new faces. Toriel and Asgore, her adopted parents, seemed pretty nice. They visited her every single day. The taller skeleton, Papyrus, enjoyed bringing her homemade food, and even though it wasn't the best, she smiled and choked it down regardless. (Besides, it wasn't any worse than hospital food. At this point Frisk was practically living off of the pies Toriel brought her.) Undyne and Alphys brought her the first five seasons of Mew Mew: Kissy Cutie, so that once the sixth season started airing, she could go to their house and watch it with them. These five were the ones who came to visit Frisk the most frequently. Countless other monsters had stopped by, but none of them quite enough for her to remember their names. Other than that, Flowey stayed in the hospital room with her at all times, pretending to be a regular flower if any nurses or doctors were in the room. He was grumpy, and a bit rude, but Frisk got the impression that he genuinely cared for her.
On the other hand, The whole She-Freed-The-Monsters-From-The-Underground-And-They-Were-Free-To-Live-On-The-Surface-Now-Thing was terribly confusing to Frisk. It was weird to her that everyone was so thankful to her. Even though she freed them, she didn't remember it, and when you suddenly wake up in a hospital bed, with no memories, the last thing you expect is for you to be someone's savior.
Another thing that made no sense to Frisk was Sans. She hadn't seen him since he found out that she lost her memories; He hadn't come to visit her at all since then. It didn't matter that much, though, because he was probably just busy, and four days isn't a long time to not visit someone.
Still, she couldn't forget the way he looked at her, when she announced she had amnesia… But regardless, she obviously had a family who loved her and cared about her, and even though she was sure there were so many memories she was missing about each person, Frisk was just happy she wasn't alone in this.
~~~
The first time Frisk had gotten a good glimpse of herself in the mirror was on her third day in the hospital. She wasn't sure what she had expected, but what greeted her certainly wasn't it. Sure, she knew she had brown hair from the tips of her locks she caught every now and then, but she didn't realise just how brown it was. And her big brown eyes were adorable. Frisk loved it, and she couldn't wait to see what she would look like after she got home and brushed her hair so it wasn't so tangled.
Home. Where exactly was that? She knew she lived with Toriel (from what Flowey had said the first day), but she was a little nervous to see the place.
The next day, that was exactly what she was about to do. Frisk's doctor had finally let her out after four long and exhausting days. Putting her on bed rest, he instructed she take it extremely easy, getting as much rest as possible. With that, she was being led out of her room, just barely having enough time to grab Flowey and his pot, before she was brought down the stairs and out the front doors…
....And right into the sun.
The sun, the grass, the blue, blue sky. It was all so....beautiful! Indescribably so! All she could manage was a small "Wow," receiving a grunt from Flowey. A light breeze ruffled Frisk's messy hair, swirling around some fallen cherry blossom petals. Cherry blossom trees! Oh, they were magnificent! And to think they had been right here all along. If she had looked out her window in the hospital room, she could've seen them, but she was almost happy she didn't. It made the moment that much more special. Frisk had a strange, happy feeling. This felt so familiar, and yet she couldn't recall being here before. Thinking it was just her amnesia, she shrugged it off. Toriel and Asgore waited over by a car, waving over their child(ren). When Frisk came over, Asgore couldn't stop himself from pulling Frisk into a giant bear hug. She grunted, almost dropping Flowey. It made her a little uncomfortable, but she was willing to put up with it more for Asgore's sake than for hers.
"Asgore," Toriel scolded in a weird tone. "Be careful. You don't want to scare her away when she must feel very lost and confused."
Asgore pulled away from Frisk almost immediately. "I'm so sorry! I hope I wasn't overstepping my boundaries!" He apologized. Toriel and Asgore exchanged looks of sadness and worry.
"No, you didn't do anything wrong!" Frisk exclaimed. "I… I'm so sorry…"
"We know you don't remember us, and we know it's not your fault at all! Please, don't think this is your fault, my child!" Toriel said. "Because it absolutely isn't. We just....it was so painful, having Sans show up in the kitchen holding you. You just...looked so broken! And when we got to the hospital, it felt like years passed before you woke up. We didn't know what was going to happen." Toriel's eyes started to water. "We hate how much it must hurt for you to not be able to remember anything, but we are just so, so happy that nothing worse happened! For all we knew, we c-could've lost you!"
Frisk felt bad. She wasn't the only one suffering from this. She wondered what exactly happened for her to end up like this. The doctor told her she was hit by a car, but how did that happen? Was she really that careless, or was the driver not paying attention?
Now that Frisk thought about it, Toriel said Sans had showed up in the kitchen with her. How did he find her? How did Sans know she was hit, or know that something had gone wrong and she had been hurt? Frisk had a feeling there was way more to that skeleton than he let on, and she would get straight down to the bottom of it. She just needed to figure out one question: Who was Sans the skeleton to her?
~~~
After three days of doing nothing but sitting around watching anime, the only way Frisk could convince Toriel to let her go to school was if she was in a wheelchair, and brought Flowey with her. It wasn't that Frisk couldn't walk; She was perfectly fine besides her amnesia. It was just that Toriel was taking the doctor's orders of "bed rest" very seriously. And that was how after being awake for only a week, Frisk was off to school in a wheelchair, carrying a flower pot.
At school, her best friend Monster Kid (seriously, how many 'best friends' did Frisk have?) was really worried about her.
"What happened, are you alright? Why are you in a wheelchair, can you not walk anymore? I'm so sorry I couldn't come to visit you in the hospital, my parents wouldn't let me. They said I had too much homework to do."
"It's alright," Frisk said, smiling softly. "But there is something you should know…"
When her teacher had announced to the class about Frisk's accident, and how she had amnesia, nobody was more shocked than Monster Kid. Yet he still helped her around (by pushing her wheelchair with his face), introduced her to people, helped her with her classwork, and played it off like a joke.
"Wow, Frisk, you really managed to get yourself into trouble this time, huh?" He laughed, despite the fact that he was wheeling her to the cafeteria by pushing her wheelchair with his face. She just giggled and smiled, nodding her head.
Lunchtime was a nightmare. Everyone wanted to introduce themselves to Frisk, and explain stuff to her.
"...And then I came here to school today." Frisk said, having just been asked to tell her story again for the 15th time.
"So are your legs really broken?" Asked a small turtle monster, having not really paid attention to the story.
Wow, people really don't listen, huh? Asked the voice in Frisk's head. Frisk chose to ignore it, instead simply explaining that no, she had not broken her legs, she just hit her head and was told to take it easy. Suddenly everyone started crowding Frisk, all asking questions at the same time, most of which she had already answered. She tried her best to answer as many as she could, but she was getting very overwhelmed, and her headache was returning. Flowey must've noticed, because one moment he was scowling at everyone, and the next he had vines up in the air, making himself look bigger than he was, and hissing at all of the school kids.
And that was how one little flower managed to empty an entire cafeteria, except for Frisk and Monster Kid, in less than 30 seconds.
Remind me not to get on his bad side, Frisk asked the voice in her head.
Our Skeleton 34
This time on Our Skeleton radio: Let Flowey be Mean 2020!
The farmer wasn’t quite sure why this strange flower monster wanted to rent his goats for the day. They were just goats. They weren’t trained to do yoga or pose for pictures. They would eat anything and everything in sight, but hey! Who was he to turn down this much money for something so simple? If he did he’d be a fool.
It wasn’t until much, much later, when he saw the column in the next day’s paper just above the fold, that he had a clue. He wasn’t sure whether to be horrified or to double over in laughter. Laughter won. The article read:
WILD GOAT HERD RAMPAGES IN HILLSBURY HILLS Gardens were decimated today in the well-to-do neighborhood of Hillsbury Hills when a seemingly wild herd of Boer goats descended. The herd, at least 30 strong, mowed through grass, flowers, shrubbery, and other vegetation alike. Affected residents estimate that the goats did over $250,000 worth of damage in the space of a few hours. Police were called on the miscreants as soon as a local servant noticed the goats. By the time the officers in blue responded, though, the goats had vanished from the scene. They left devastation and a large amount of pellets in their wake. No clues as to their origins have been reported. However, the property managers have posted a $250 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrators. Information is to be reported to the city police. They can be reached at: (111)111-1111.
The farmer reflected on a couple of things as he reread the article. The first was regret that he hadn’t asked the strange flower’s name. The second was the likelihood, even if he did know that information, that the police would believe him. Then he wondered why, if the property managers were the ones who had posted the reward, the police were the ones who were collecting information. Wouldn’t that invalidate any ability to claim the prize? From there he reflected on the word ‘posted’. Nowhere did it say that the reward would actually be paid. Finally, he wondered if this strange flower was happy that his revenge had been so complete. Surely that kind of dedication to destruction should be rewarded with a little bit of loyalty? Say, enough loyalty not to snitch? Especially since the flower had returned his goats happy and safe. Yes, the farmer thought to himself, renting out his goats out was definitely worth it for today.
A giant nest (or possibly a fort) of couch cushions, blankets, and pillows had sprung forth in the middle of the living room. At the moment it was mostly empty. Only Papyrus, Sans, and Frisk were in there now. The rest of the crew wasn’t far away, though. Everyone except Toriel was on the phone, spreading the news of their little human’s burden to all of their guardians, also known as all of monsterkind. Toriel was baking a celebratory butterscotch-cinnamon pie. Today’s honesty and revelations deserved it.
In the cuddle pile, Sans had his arms around Frisk, and Papyrus had his arms around both of them. Frisk’s hands were free so they could sign. “let me get this straight. you have this power to save and load, and you’ve never done something silly with it? come on, you can tell us. you have to have done at least one silly thing. i know i would have.”
Frisk giggled. [Okay, there was one thing. It was the first time I came through the Underground. I’d just gotten past you and I ran into Doggo. I wanted to pet him, so I LOADed a few times just to pet him more. I kinda did that with all of the Dog Squad, especially with Lesser Dog. If I had a hard time or got scared by someone else in Snowdin I would go back and pet him a bit. That usually helped calm me down.]
Papyrus nodded wisely. “AN EXCELLENT DECISION. I, TOO, HAVE FOUND MYSELF SEEKING COMFORT FROM SIMPLE THINGS. PETTING A DOG IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THEM. I BELIEVE YOU HAVE SPENT QUITE SOME TIME GETTING TO KNOW DOGGO’S NEW SEEING EYE DOG?”
[Yes,] Frisk signed happily, [She’s the best! I don’t bother her when she’s working, but when he’s at home he lets me spend time with her. I give her pets and we play with toys and we cuddle. It’s great!]
Sans blinked at his brother and Frisk, then smiled cheekily. “you could say she is doggone good, huh kiddo?”
Papyrus groaned. “SANS! THAT ONE WASN’T EVEN GOOD!”
Sans chuckled. “i know, bro. that’s why i like it.”
Flowey considered the fine selection of knives, swords, and other cutting blades in his collection. They were all razor sharp, which is what he wanted right now. Cutting through fabric required a sharp edge. He considered which length would be best for this task. The swords would be too unwieldy. The daggers all were too thick for what he had planned. That left the knives. There were eight of them. He dismissed the ones with serration. That left four. He would be traveling under the ground for this trip, so he needed a sheath to keep the blade fresh. That left two. He decided on using the double edged one. That way if the first side went dull he could still cut. Plus it had a good heft to it, which he liked.
Once that was settled Flowey turned to his other armaments. In this case they were dye bombs, glitter bombs, and water bombs. Usually he used bombs that were a little more destructive, but he didn’t want to destroy anything, he just wanted to ruin them.
With all of that tucked in his inventory Flowey set out for the mansion. It was child’s play to sneak in. All of the servants were busy trying to repair the damage from the goats, and the two targets of his campaign were away at some kind of a party. That left the house empty for him to exact his revenge. He started in the upstairs closets. There were easily more than a hundred dresses and suits. He took great pleasure in cutting the fine fabrics into tiny little pieces. He didn’t make them even, either. He sliced at odd angles, cut in wonky curves, and generally made it impossible to sew the clothes back together.
Once he was finished with the clothes Flowey moved on to the other linens in the house. He shredded pillows, mattresses, bed clothes, curtains, towels, and rugs alike. When he was done it looked like a rogue confetti machine had been let loose in the house. He smiled wickedly. That was attack number two.
=====
“What are they doing now, Grillby?” Toriel asked quietly. Her hands were covered in flour to prevent the pie crust she was kneading from sticking to her fur. She’d made enough for three pies. She hoped that would be enough for everyone to get their piece as well as enough that anyone who wanted to have seconds could.
Grillby, who was standing in the doorway talking to her while she worked, turned around and peered over his shoulder. “..... My boys and Frisk….. are still in the fort. Gerson left….. to go talk to the monsters in the Underground. Asgore is still….. on the phone. Undyne and Alphys have….. finished their phone calls and are now cuddling. I believe they may….. be kissing.”
Toriel huffed. “I hope they are not doing so in front of Frisk. They are a child. Such a display of affection is not appropriate for them to view.”
Grillby chuckled. “Miss Tori, times have changed. It is no longer….. the fashion for children to be prevented from seeing….. kisses and hugs. It would not surprise me….. if they had already seen them. Perhaps you should ask? In any case….. Undyne and Alphys are allowed to kiss in front of them….. and so are you.”
She blushed. Why did he always know how to push her buttons? “I am more than satisfied as I am, am I not?”
“Yes…..” Grillby said slowly, “but are your datemates?”
Toriel froze. Were… were Asgore and Sans happy with this? Asgore could be incredibly affectionate. He loved to touch and kiss her. And Sans… Sans needed all of the love they could give him. But she could still hear the voice of Asgore’s mother screaming at them for daring to kiss in front of the younger guests at a party. It had hurt. Toriel’s parents never screamed at her, even when she had upset them. Toriel wanted to make Asgore’s mother happy… but she was dead now, wasn’t she? Why was Toriel still trying to please a woman who had died nearly 1,000 years ago?
“I will think about that, Grillby. I will do some research as to what is appropriate. Now, can you go get the filling from the fridge? I’m just about ready to lay this crust out in the tins to be filled.”
=====
With the fabrics thoroughly bombed and destroyed by Flowey’s hands he turned to his next task. He reached up to the curtain rod nearest him, now denuded of its usual burdens, and pulled it down. The hooks that held it to the wall clattered on the ground; in this case, it was the marble floor of the entrance hallway. Flowey offhandedly knocked them under the furniture with one stray vine. Then he turned to the rod itself.
It was child’s play to remove the finials from the end of the rod. They unscrewed quite easily. Flowey hoped (in a very detached way) that that didn’t mean that they changed out the ends on a regular basis. He wanted this prank to haunt them for as long as possible.
With the finials off, Flowey pulled out his secret weapon: a whole platter of cocktail shrimp. He popped the lid off and grabbed three of the shrimp. One went in his mouth. The other two went, one each, into the open ends of the curtain rods. There they would rot, slowly and surely, and give off a haunting scent that would not be cleared until the curtain rods were replaced. The servants would, of course, be blamed. But Flowey knew that most of them were there under threat to their family. Losing this job would be freedom for them, so if Frisk ever asked he could truthfully say that they weren’t suffering because of his actions. Frisk cared about stuff like that. He had no idea why.
After planting the shrimp Flowey screwed the finials back on the ends of the curtain rod and dropped it carelessly onto the floor. That let him move on to the next curtain rod. And the next. And the next.
=====
“Move your elbow, Papyrus. I swear it feels like you’re all bones,” Undyne complained. She was currently in a giant cuddle pile. Everyone, from Toriel and Asgore to Frisk and Sans, was in the fort. They could generally be described as a giant heap.
Papyrus obligingly moved his arm, resting it instead on Grillby’s knee. This dislodged the Annoying Dog’s head. No one had any idea when he had shown up. He just did. Papyrus had sighed and grudgingly allowed the mongrel to stay. “BUT, UNDYNE, I AM MADE OF ALL BONES. I AM, IN FACT, A SKELETON!”
She snorted. “That doesn’t mean you have to feel like it. Do that thing where you go all fuzzy! I know you can do it. Sans is already doing it!”
Asgore’s voice rumbled into the conversation. “That would, in fact, be my head, Undyne.”
“Oh,” She said, sounding disappointed.
Sans decided to join in. “that doesn’t mean we can’t do it. it’s just kinda tricky when there are so many people around. it’s easier when there’s only one or two.”
Alphys mumbled, “... Vector matrix of magical signatures…”
“yup,” Sans said. His ear was currently pressed up against Alphys’ mouth. “that’s it exactly. you got any tips to overcome the gradient issue? pap is better at resolving it than me, but he’s never been able to explain how he does it.”
Alphys blushed. Undyne, whose hand was on her shoulder, squeezed it. “Go ahead, babe. You got this science sh...ip.”
The doctor snorted out a laugh. It was more of a hiccup than a snort, but snort made more sense. “O...kay. Well, I don’t what what you’ve, um, tried? But when I had to consolidate the differential between Mettaton’s magic and that of the power grid in order to charge his magic I, um, found a vector that’s perpendicular to the average of the other two vectors and projected them onto it? That resulting vector, the one that was the difference between the projections, was easier to handle. I just sort of… inversed it? I can’t remember what that’s called, but-”
“that’s genius, alph!” Sans interrupted enthusiastically, “i can just…”
A beat passed. Then Grillby smiled. “You have….. achieved your goal, Sans. You are now….. quite fluffy. Papyrus, do you understand….. what he’s done?”
Papyrus shook his head, dislodging Frisk’s foot. “I DO NOT, BUT I KNOW WHAT I NEED TO DO TO BECOME FLUFFY LIKE HE JUST DID. I NEED TO DO THIS! UM… IT DIDN’T WORK. DID IT?”
“Yeah it did! Right on, nerd!” Undyne cheered.
“I must admit,” Toriel commented, “that is one skill I have never seen on another skeleton monster. Do you two know where it comes from, by chance?”
It was Grillby who answered. “I am afraid it comes from….. me. I will admit I tried to teach them….. how to show their magic more….. but I taught them as if they were fire elementals. We can control how hot our flames are….. so I assumed their magic would work similarly. This….. was the result.”
“Oh!” Toriel said, “That is interesting. I wonder if there are other abilities like that that different monster types have that they don’t know about. I wonder how we could learn…”
“when you get your school you might learn. you’re going to be teaching all kinds of different monsters and humans, right?” Sans pointed out, “you’re bound to discover a hidden ability or two. especially with the humans in the mix. humans have such weird magic, right frisk?”
Frisk, who was on top of the entire pile with a quite relaxed expression on their face, signed, [Humans don’t have magic, Sans.]
Asgore chuckled. “My dear child. Humans have always had magic. You cannot live without it. It just manifests differently than monster magic. I believe, for example, that your magic controls these SAVEs and RESETs. Rodger’s magic is that of his ability to see ghosts all the time. He’s told me about several ghosts in the area that I didn’t know about, including one that seems to follow you.”
Frisk froze. Everyone else didn’t seem to notice. Well, except for Papyrus, who Frisk was laying on. But he didn’t press. Maybe he decided that Frisk was allowed to keep some secrets, just like he and Sans were. Everyone should have a secret or two.
“That’s very nice! Humans can be very judgmental about that, can they not?” Toriel said.
“They can. I am glad he…… felt safe enough with you to share,” Grillby said quietly. “Terrance has told me….. that he worries about Rodger. He seems afraid of the teachers at the school you used to attend, Frisk. Perhaps we should try and convince Terrance and Leopold to enroll him at your school, Miss Tori.”
“That sounds wonderful! He is a delightful child with wonderful parents. I would be happy to have him as a student,” Toriel said, sounding delighted. Everyone in the room knew how much this school meant to her.
“heh. how many more weeks is it until school starts again? i know we’re getting close,?” Sans said with a smile.
“The school opens for students in 8 weeks, but the other teachers and myself start work in seven. I have already begun planning my lessons. Frisk has been helping me, have you not, my child?”
Frisk knocked enthusiastically. [Yes. I’m the fun checker! I have to make sure that every lesson includes something fun!]
“WOWIE. THAT IS AN IMPORTANT JOB, BUT ONE THAT I AM CERTAIN YOU WILL DO WELL! JUST LIKE YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT HERO, FRISK. AND AN EXCELLENT FRIEND!”
Everyone nodded their agreement. That was true. Frisk was the kind of person who could (and would) be friends with everyone. Who knew what they would befriend next?
=====
With all the shrimp successfully hidden in the curtain rods Flowey moved on to his last prank. Well, extremely mean hearted payback. That was the same, right? It was to him.
He pulled out the little tube-like trigger thingy. He’d only ever seen it used to dispense guacamole, but he definitely felt like that wasn’t the original purpose. It looked kind of like a giant hot glue gun without a cord. He’d bought it at a home improvement store from an old man in a yellow apron. The apron was the same colour as his petals, a fact that the old man couldn’t shut up about. Flowey had never heard anyone so chatty in his life.
Lifting himself up to the level of the handle was harder than he thought. It was only a few feet. A few frustrating feet. When he reached the door handle he clung to it, bending the lever down a bit. That was fine. Any position would work for what he planned.
Flowey carefully lined the tip of the little trigger thingy up with the opening of the lock. He pressed the trigger for a few seconds, forcing the hard-setting epoxy into the locking mechanism. Only when it started to overflow did he stop. He put the tube back in his inventory, lowered himself to the ground, and slithered off to find the next door with a lock he could destroy. He couldn’t help but chuckle to himself as he did so. The Revenants had no idea what was coming to them.
The drive to the Embassy from New New home took about fifteen to twenty minutes depending on traffic. During the week, it was one that Edge took twice a day, occasionally listening to the radio, more likely to a podcast or the news.
Today, they were hardly five minutes into the drive and Stretch was already fidgeting. He’d hold Edge’s hand for a moment only to drop it, switch to flicking his lighter through his fingers, then back to holding hands. Once, he even started pulling out a cigarette only to catch himself, tucking the pack back into his hoodie pocket and switching back to the lighter.
It ached to see him so disturbed. Whatever Alphys had to say about his test results, at least Stretch’s anxiety over them would be finally over.
He’d come awake slowly that morning, having woken last night with Edge’s nightmare, and his sleepy pleasure at being brought a cup of coffee in bed had quickly turned to suspicion after a few sips. His reaction at being told Alphys moved up their appointment had been pure anxiety and Edge did not regret keeping the information to himself until then.
Sitting here now, his attention split between the road and watching as Stretch squirmed, he only wished there was something he could do to help, past keeping a hand available to be held whenever it was needed.
He’d accept his helplessness for now. This part would be over soon and he was braced for any answer Alphys offered, ready to do whatever was needed to help his love. Physically, mentally, anything and everything in between, he was prepared to offer it.
Now they only had to get there.
The parking lot at the Embassy was a secured one that required an ID, and Edge had his own parking spot at the back of the lot. Today, he forbore using it, instead parking as close to the entrance as he could.
If Stretch noticed, he didn’t comment on it, scrambling out of the car and already heading towards the entrance the moment the car was in park. He lingered there outside, waiting for Edge to catch up, hands shoved into his pockets and even then Edge could see his hands clenching and unclenching, the shrunken quality of his eye lights. He was scared and trying very hard not to show it.
The protestors across the street were there night and day, though at this hour there were only a handful of Humans, their ragged signs sitting propped at their feet. It seemed even racism required morning coffee to get going, Edge thought with dark humor. He moved to stand with his back to them, blocking their view as he gently took Stretch’s face in both his hands, giving him a brief kiss.
“It’s going to be okay, love,” Edge whispered to him. Stretch took a shaky breath and let it out, nodding slowly.
“yeah. let’s get this over with.” He turned and opened the door, and Edge followed him in.
Everyone who came in was required to swipe their ID, and even though Stretch could easily shortcut to any place in the building, he always did. It was for security purposes and Stretch had told him once that if Ass-gore had to do it, then he supposed it wasn’t beneath him.
Edge hadn’t commented on the nickname, that was a battle he wasn’t about to join.
As far as he knew, Sans was obedient about scanning his badge as well. His own brother, Edge couldn’t say, but that was another pie he was refusing to take a slice from. Red was a part of the security department, in official and unofficial roles, and if they had issues with him, he’d leave it to them.
The guard at the station offered them both a genuine smile, his curiosity obvious, but he didn’t question them. Anyone else would need to sign in with a purpose to visit, but Stretch was on a rather short list of people with classified access. Not that he ever used it. He knew the way to the labs, was already headed towards the elevator with Edge on his heels, but he went to them only rarely.
That was an issue that Stretch did not discuss, but then, neither did Red or Sans. Edge couldn’t remember the years his brother spent working at the labs in Underfell. On the rare occasion he said anything, Red usually made cracks about working there as a janitor. Sans was more amicable and often helped out in both the laboratories here and Stretch’s in New New Home, but for all the usefulness his brilliance offered the Monster community, Stretch refused to work with any of the other scientists.
Once, many years ago, Edge thought him selfish for it. Now, having spent dark nights with his lover in his arms, listening to him brokenly confess to watching his brother die during the resets, he could only wonder at what sort of trauma Stretch endured in the labs in Underswap that he refused to even discuss it.
It might be better that Edge didn’t know, and that whoever deserved to be punished for it was far from his reach.
At least Stretch was able to still enjoy his love of science, that hadn’t been stolen from him. But Red avoided the labs entirely when he could, and if Stretch wouldn’t talk about it, expecting any information from Red was less likely than stumbling across the Loch Ness monster in a puddle on the street.
In this elevator heading to the labs, all he could do was hold Stretch’s hand, squeezing gently as it trembled in his grip, and try not to think of the day Stretch had come on his own to get the tests done. He should have been suspicious then, too trusting and—
No. He was not allowing that thought any sort of traction, would not allow the faint whispers of his LV to taint any other part of him. He was here today and Stretch had told him the truth. That was all that mattered.
He heard Stretch inhale raggedly as the elevator doors opened, but he didn’t hesitate, walked straight through them with his normal lackadaisical stride, forcing Edge to slow his own steps.
The labs took up an entire basement floor of the Embassy, chosen to be placed here rather than at New New Home for reasons of practicality and safety. As far as construction went, Monsters were well familiar with how to build underground and the structure of the entire building was able to withstand everything from earthquakes to a concentrated magical attack.
The main room was an open layout, with plenty of tables and machinery around, and the walls were lined with doors that led to private labs for experiments that required more discretion. The scientists who worked here did so with the knowledge that their experiments would be used to better the lives of Monsters and Humans alike, and Alphys herself had demanded strict protocols on what experiments were allowed.
That was not a surprise; Edge had met the Amalgamates who stayed within New New Home. He had his own opinions on them that he kept to himself, and he’d easily agreed to the rules for laboratory protocols. He wasn’t entirely comfortable with her being the one to run tests on Stretch, but no one knew more about souls than she did.
Alphys was at one of the work tables and she brightened when she caught sight of them, waddling over.
“hey, lizard lady, how’s it going?” Stretch’s grin was the most genuine expression he’d offered since they’d gotten in the car. He leaned down, holding out his arms in offering. Once, Stretch had told her she could take the hug if she wanted or not, and he wouldn’t be offended either way. Today was a hug day and Edge did not know if that was good or bad.
But her smile was warm. “It’s g-going well! Why don’t we talk in my office?”
She led them to a closed door, unlocking it, and they followed her inside. The various clutter was a stark contrast to the orderly lab; her desk covered in papers, walls lined with anime posters and a framed picture from her wedding. There was another picture of Undyne on her desk, grinning at the camera, and a pink paper heart was taped to one corner with a sticker that blared the word ’kawii!!’.
Alphys bustled around, muttering to herself as she gathered up paper stacks from the chairs, gesturing at them to sit before she settled into her own seat. “Did you want a drink?”
“nah, i’m good,” Stretch waved it off, “just tell me the truth, do i need to start shopping for a urn or what? ‘cause i’d kinda rather get my dust sprinkled properly and a mason jar isn’t the aesthetic i’m looking for.”
“Don’t,” Edge said sharply before he could stop himself. He knew that biting sarcasm was only a defense mechanism, but he couldn’t listen to that. He couldn’t.
Sweet creature that she was, Alphys looked horrified at the black joke, “N-n-no, of course not! Y-you’re fine!”
That was not the answer Stretch was expecting. He blinked, the mask of his indifference slipping to show a struggle between disbelief and tremulous hope.
“fine.” Stretch repeated, slowly. “so why am i down an hp?”
She shrugged, “Stress, past sickness? There’s a lot of reasons for HP to drop and nothing unusual showed up on any of the tests. B-but, see here. You can’t see it in a Check but—“
She pulled out a small device out of a drawer that looked like a tablet and walked over. Alphys didn’t seem to notice Stretch’s slight flinch as she settled something that looked like a stethoscope over Stretch’s chest. She showed them the tablet, charting a mass of numbers.
“See here?” She pointed at the screen with one clawed finger. “Checks don't show the decimals, but if you can look a little deeper, you’ll see it’s c-coming back up.”
It was, Edge saw, swallowing down his own relief. The tablet was showing deeply into the decimals, but as they watched, the last number went up by one. And again, very slowly crawling upward.
“If it keeps up like this, y-you’ll be back to five in a few months!” She beamed. Her smile faltered as Stretch made a small sound, shaking so hard the bones of his fingers clattered against the chair arm. “Are you okay?”
“He’s fine,” Edge told her quietly, and pulled Stretch into his arms as he finally broke and the tears started. Held him gently as he cried, murmuring soft words and nonsense while the fear loosened its hold. Long minutes passed before Stretch pulled away, sniffling and wiping at his face with his sleeve.
Alphys already had Kleenex and a bottle of water in hand, practically shoving them into Stretch’s lap as she burbled out tearfully, “I’m so sorry! I would have told you over the phone if I’d known you were so worried, I only wanted to show you the results! I should have known, I could have told you—“
“it’s fine, lizard lady,” Stretch said and this time it was Alphys who held her arms out for a hug, the two of them embracing amidst tears. “s’all good.”
She nodded, sniffling, and drew back. “Th-the only thing I can recommend is getting plenty of rest, eat good food. It’ll speed up the process.” She gave the pocket of his hoodie a little poke, tapping the visible bulge there. "You should stop smoking. It retards your magic and it could be slowing down the process.”
“did you have to say that where he could hear?” Stretch groaned.
“Yes,” she said unrepentantly. “I don’t want to see you in an urn or a mason jar, and definitely not an ashtray.”
Edge said nothing, but Stretch still sighed. “i’ll try, okay?”
“Try hard,” Alphys said sternly.
She went on to show Stretch a few more test results, the two of them slowly descending into scientific jargon that Edge didn’t even try to understand. He’d gotten what he wanted out of this visit, the only words he wanted to hear.
Stretch was going to be fine and that was enough.
Once they were finished at the lab, Edge drove them back home. He thought about offering to take them for lunch, but the stress of the morning was hitting Stretch before they even made it back to the car, his untied shoes dragging as he walked. He was asleep by the time they made it out of the parking lot and Edge didn’t hesitate to let him sleep, carrying him carefully into the house and settling with him on the sofa, a blanket drawn over them both.
Normally, he wasn’t one for naps, especially not in the mid-morning. Today, he felt unexpectedly tired, all the worries of the past days seeping away and leaving exhaustion in its wake. His normal urges to be moving, working or cleaning or cooking, abandoned him, and Edge settled on the sofa with his sleeping husband in his arms, holding him close. Drowsing in the pocket of shared warmth beneath the blanket.
He couldn’t say how long he slept when he heard the soft click of the unlocked door, the almost silent footsteps. Edge didn’t opened his sockets as he called on his magic, flexing his fingers beneath the blanket as he reached out to turn his brother’s soul blue and lifted.
When he turned to look, Red was dangling in the air like a marionette, a sharp grin on his face. He tipped his head towards the door, one brow bone raised and Edge frowned, lowering Red to the floor before carefully pulling away from Stretch. Who murmured discontentedly, his face scrunching unhappily at the loss of warmth. Edge pressed a kiss to his skull and whispered a soft promise to return. Likely it went unheard but Stretch still settled with a sigh, burrowing into the blanket
Red was sitting on the steps when Edge walked out, an unlit cigar clenched in his teeth, “how’s the honey bun.”
Ah, of course. If there was one person Red had difficulty getting intel from it was Alphys, and they’d been in her office to talk.
There was a small, petty temptation to let his brother squirm a bit for the answer, but Edge resisted it, “He’ll be all right. His HP is recovering. She recommended he quit smoking.”
Red snorted loudly. “have fun with that.”
Edge didn’t think he imagined seeing a line of tension in Red’s shoulders relax. He’d been worried, Edge realized, far more than he would ever show or say, but enough to come by the moment he knew they had answers. Knowing that made a painful knot in Edge’s soul ease, a silent forgiveness for his brother keeping secrets from him about Stretch. Red did care about Stretch, he knew, past him simply being a precious liability for his brother. It was still nice to have it confirmed from time to time.
But it didn’t stop him from slapping Red on the back of the skull when he started lighting his cigar, hissing, “Do not smoke that near me!”
Red only grinned, unrepentantly, “yeah, yeah, get back in there with the honey bun. might want to get in your chucklefucks while you can, before the nicotine withdrawal hits.”
“Sans—“ Edge started to snarl, but he was talking to thin air, leaving him with no one to take his irritation out on. He blew out a sharp breath and shook his head, rubbing at his nasal bone to stave off an incipient brother-shaped headache.
Then he went back inside to take his brother’s advice.
For your sensory fic requests: How about 35 with Alpydyne?
Rating: G Word Count: 1595 Prompt: "jumping into a cold pool" Read on AO3: here
---
Alphys blinked as cold poolwater splashed her in the face.
“Eight points!” Toriel announced from her beach chair. Next to her, Frisk held up a sign with the number seven painted on it. At least, Alphys was pretty sure it was a seven; it was hard to tell without her glasses on. She doubted Frisk would have rated Sans’s cannonball a one.
“You guys are too easy to please,” Flowey grumbled. His pot sat under the big umbrella next to Frisk. “I give the smiley trashbag a two. I didn’t even get wet.”
“Try standing over here,” Alphys suggested, drying her face on the hem of her terry-cloth dress.
She knew she’d been too close to the splash zone, but Undyne was about to leap from the diving board next. Alphys wanted to have the best view possible for the anime-worthy flips Undyne was sure to show off.
“How does he do that, anyway?” Undyne’s eyes narrowed at Sans. “He’s gotta be using blue magic to make himself heavier.”
“Being heavier wouldn’t, um, actually help that much,” Alphys pointed out. “For an optimal splash, you want to displace as much water as possible, so volume is more important than weight. Of course, if you don’t weigh enough, you won’t sink at all, and then the splash would be p-pretty lame.”
“Dang, Alphy, you’ve been holding out on me! I didn’t know you knew so much about cannonballs!”
“I don’t?” Alphys blushed. “I mean, I don’t have any p-practical experience. Just, um, the physics of it. Which, might be why Sans is so good at it, too?”
“That’s good enough for me!” Undyne grinned before scooping Alphys up in her arms.
“What?” Alphys’s eyes widened.
“You’re gonna help us get the best splash ever!!”
“Help—us? What do you—you’re—?”
Her eyes darted around, searching for help. All she saw was Papyrus wearing his black sunglasses and giving her a gloved thumbs-up.
“I BELIEVE IN YOU, ALPHYS! SHOW MY BROTHER WHO PUTS THE COOL IN POOL!”
“Th-there’s no… oh whatever.” Alphys gave up protesting.
Undyne tore off Alphys’s dress, revealing the red bikini underneath, and tossed it to Papyrus.
“DON’T WORRY! I’LL KEEP YOUR CLOTHES PERFECTLY DRY!”
Alphys trusted Papyrus on that. He hadn’t gotten near the water at all today, despite being the one to suggest the pool party at Toriel’s house. He had provided some pretty good spaghetti puffs for them to snack on, though.
“You ready, babe?” Undyne asked.
Alphys was not, and absolutely would never be, ready to cannonball into the pool with the love of her life. What if she tripped off the diving board? Well, that probably wouldn’t happen, considering she doubted Undyne would set her down. But what if she hit her head on the pool floor, or her swimsuit malfunctioned—
She quickly shoved down that thought.
“Ready!” she squeaked out, her face hot enough to evaporate any water left on it.
“That’s what I’m talking about!!”
Undyne grinned down at her, gave her one breath-stealing smooch, and then sprinted towards the diving board.
Alphys’s stomach somersaulted as the board bent and propelled them upwards with a loud BOING. Her claws dug into Undyne’s scales, but Undyne just hollered in delight.
“NGAHHHH!!!”
They hit the water in one unified ball of teal, red, and yellow. It probably looked awesome, but she could hardly dwell on that with the cold water engulfing her.
She managed to hold her breath until Undyne kicked them to the surface.
“You were AWESOME!” Undyne beamed.
Alphys spluttered a little, a few drops of water still caught in her snout.
“I, uh, I was?”
“HECK YEAH YOU WERE!!”
“I’m soaked to the bone,” Sans said from the edge of the pool. “Think you even managed to douse the little weed there.”
“The chlorine’s going to give me a rash,” Flowey grumbled. “Seven points.”
“Nine points!” Toriel added. “I’m going to need a new towel.”
Frisk’s sign seemed to read “zero,” but when they straightened out the soggy poster, the “one” in front of it became visible.
“What did I tell you!” Undyne hugged Alphys tight. “We’re the coolest!”
“Heh… I guess we are pretty cool.” Alphys grinned up at her shyly. “That was, um, actually pretty fun!”
“Does that mean you’re up for best two out of three?” Sans asked.
“Why not?” Alphys smirked. “It feels pretty good to kick your butt!”
“That’s the spirit, babe!”
“Don’t get too cocky.” Sans winked. “Hey Tori, you wanna show these nerds how it’s done?”
Toriel grinned, showing her gleaming fangs.
“I suppose I might as well, since I have been ‘dunked on’ already.” She stood, brushing off her black one-piece swimsuit. “Papyrus, would you do me the honor of taking my place on the judgement hall?”
“OF COURSE, TORIEL!” He saluted, but stood far back behind the beach umbrella. “I AM READY TO JUDGE FROM A SAFE AND RESPECTABLE DISTANCE!”
Alphys was tempted to join him, but Undyne stayed near the pool’s edge after climbing out. Besides, she was already wet.
“I’ve never, um, actually seen Toriel swim before,” Alphys admitted.
“Me either. They both look pretty confident, though.” Undyne frowned.
“You don’t think they’ll beat us, do you?”
“Nah. It’s best two out of three, so even if they show off this round, we’ve got time to make a comeback! Not that we’ll need it!!”
Alphys wasn’t so sure. Toriel had more volume than herself and Undyne put together. And if Sans was somehow using blue magic…
Toriel scooped Sans up in her arms, and the two of them glowed briefly as they leapt from the board.
“GET DUNKED ON!” They shouted in unison, before unleashing a splash that was more like a tsunami.
Alphys ducked behind Undyne, but couldn’t completely dodge the incoming wave. Papyrus cried out from behind them. When Alphys caught sight of him again, he was holding Flowey’s pot, and they were both safe and dry on the opposite side of the pool. Only Frisk looked completely unperturbed, still sitting in their beach chair and holding up the soggy “ten” sign.
“...Okay, that was pretty impressive,” Undyne admitted as Toriel paddled towards the edge of the pool, Sans resting sloth-like on her back.
“What was that?” He asked Undyne with a grin.
“Nothing, nerd!”
Toriel laughed. “I think they are saying they got ‘owned,’ dear.”
“Hey! We’ve still got one more round! We’re gonna crush you dorks into the dirt!! Right, Alphy?”
“Er…”
“FLOWEY HAS A BETTER IDEA!” Papyrus jogged over to them, still carrying the disgruntled flower. “WHY DON’T YOU TELL THEM, FRIEND?”
Flowey rolled his eyes.
“You idiots could just jump at the same time. Listening to you fight argue about who’s better is getting boring.”
Undyne blinked. “That’s… actually not a terrible idea!”
“I’m fine with it.” Sans shrugged.
Alphys nodded in agreement. While cannonballing with Undyne had been fun, she was a little afraid of what lengths Undyne would go to to beat Sans and Toriel.
“YES, FLOWEY IS FULL OF GREAT IDEAS! NOW, WE WILL BE WATCHING FROM AN EVEN SAFER DISTANCE, READY TO RECORD YOUR RECORD-BREAKING EXPLOITS! NYEH HEH HEH!”
Papyrus ran off, his feet fluttering as he hovered up to the roof of Toriel’s house. Alphys had long given up questioning his disregard for the laws of physics.
“Would you like to stand back too, my child?” Toriel asked.
Frisk shook their head and flashed a thumbs-up.
“Suit yourself, kiddo.”
“Alright! Let’s do this!!”
The four of them lined up at the diving board. Well, Undyne and Toriel lined up, with Alphys and Sans in their respective embraces.
“Um, are you sure this board is meant to hold—?”
As if Alphys’s words had been a spell, the diving board snapped beneath their feet. She barely had time to shout before they were all tumbling into the water, a mass of limbs and scales and fur.
She resurfaced quickly, spitting chlorinated water from her mouth. “Undyne?”
Undyne burst from the water, her wet ponytail slapping Alphys across the face. “That. Was. AWESOME!!!”
“Er… was it?”
Toriel pulled Sans out of the water by his skull and set him on her shoulders.
“Uh, sorry your diving board took a dive, Tori.” He grimaced.
“It is not your fault, dear. I should have foreseen that.” She didn’t look upset, thankfully. “I will install a new one eventually. For now, we should give Papyrus the show he is expecting, should we not?”
“Heck yeah!!”
After removing the broken diving board from the water, they once again lined up at the edge of the pool.
“You ready, bro?” Sans called out.
“THE GREAT PAPYRUS IS ALWAYS READY!”
Alphys grinned as Undyne counted them down.
“One… two… THREE!!”
Undyne and Toriel leapt into the air. Alphys felt a tingle of magic shoot through her, and then they were plunging back towards the water at record speeds.
The water seemed to flee from the force of their collective impact. The resulting wave roared in her ears and rocked her very core.
Undyne tried to carry them to the surface—but she didn’t need to. Alphys could nearly stand up in what was left of the pool’s water.
“Wow.” Sans blinked down from Toriel’s shoulders. “Uh. Looks like you won’t have to water your lawn for a while, Tori.”
She laughed, and soon the rest of them joined in.
“I suppose that is enough swimming for today,” Toriel said with a smile. “Who wants pie?”
