Twin peeks: A first look at Huawei’s new South Africa-bound flagships
Tumblr media
Huawei's new P60 Pro will be available in South Africa from 1 June 2023. Image supplied
Introducing the P60 Pro and Mate X3
Chinese tech giant Huawei has unveiled two flagship devices, the P60 Pro and Mate X3 smartphones. Launched at an event in Johannesburg on 18 May, both phones will be available in stores from 1 June.
The P60 Pro, the successor to the highly regarded P50 Pro, boasts an impressive battery life, top-tier processing power, and a camera system that Huawei claims rivals professional DSLRs. The Mate X3, by contrast, claims to be the world’s slimmest and lightest large-screen foldable smartphone.
Tumblr media
Cameras galore
Particularly notable is the P60 Pro’s camera system. It comes equipped with a 108 MP primary sensor, a 12 MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 40 MP ultrawide sensor, making it a real contender in the realm of smartphone photography. The camera also boasts optical image stabilisation and Huawei’s unique RYYB sensor, which enhances low-light photography.
The Mate X3, on the other hand, flaunts an 8 MP selfie camera and a 40 MP primary sensor on the rear. Furthermore, it carries a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, enhancing the device’s security without compromising on its sleek design.
Battery life is a standout feature for both devices. The P60 Pro offers a 4500mAh battery, while the Mate X3 brings an even beefier 5000mAh battery to the table. Both devices support Huawei’s SuperCharge technology, ensuring rapid charging without overheating.
Huawei has included an ample 8GB of RAM in the P60 Pro, making multitasking a breeze, while the Mate X3 comes with a hefty 12GB RAM. Storage is equally generous, with options for 256GB or 512GB in both devices.
The Huawei P60 Pro costs R24 999, while the Mate X3 will set you back R44 999. Both will be in stores from 1 June 2023, but they’re available now for pre-order with Huawei sweetening the deal for early birds with a limited freebie offer of a Watch GT3 SE and FreeBuds 5i.
Apps and partnerships
In the face of ongoing concerns about the absence of Google Mobile Services on its devices (a legacy of US-imposed ban), Huawei has put significant effort into enhancing its alternative, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). HMS provides users with an array of apps and services, including Huawei’s AppGallery, which offers a range of global and localised apps.
Watch these
On the wearables front, the company unveiled two new smartwatch lines, starting with the Huawei Watch Ultimate. Positioned as a “luxury smartwatch”, it boasts a zirconium-based “liquid metal” body, giving it a premium and durable feel. Its glass cover is made of high-strength sapphire glass, ensuring protection against scratches and damage and Huawei claims it is capable of withstanding water depths of up to 100m.
The company showcased a number of these at the launch event, focusing on its partnership with Standard Bank and announcing a collaboration with radio station Jacaranda FM.
With a battery life of up to two weeks, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, all-night sleep tracking, and 90 minutes of daily exercise tracking, the Watch Ultimate offers a comprehensive range of health and fitness features.
Tumblr media
Huawei also introduced two new additions to its laptop lineup. The Huawei MateBook X Pro is a lightweight yet powerful laptop weighing just 1.3kg. It is equipped with a 13th-generation Intel Core processor, ensuring fast and efficient performance for various computing tasks. The MateBook X Pro features a sleek and modern design, making it an attractive option for professionals and students alike.
South African prices and availability for the new watches and laptops have yet to be announced.
Power solutions
With loadshedding an ongoing concern for South Africans, Huawei used the event to announce its new Power-S seamless solar hybrid power and backup system designed for commercial and industrial scenarios to help businesses ensure continuous power supply.
The Power-S solution features an all-in-one design that supports simple installation, making it convenient for various settings. It allows users to flexibly expand the capacity of batteries and power modules, catering to different budgets and power requirements.
Huawei did not list any pricing for the Power-S solution, but it did announce a price drop on its home-focussed Power-M product. The recommended retail price for the Power-M now starts from R69,999.

The products launched today are all designed to bring a more cohesive connected experience to consumers in their everyday lives, in scenarios ranging from work, health, and fitness to audio entertainment, echoing Huawei’s mission to build a better-connected world.
Richard Yu, Executive Director and CEO of Huawei Consumer BG, says: “Great user experiences are always founded on innovation, but our journey of innovation always begins and ends with consumers. In the future, we will continue working with our valued partners to offer more smart and high-quality experiences to consumers worldwide.”
Huawei FreeBuds Pro and FreeLace Pro: ANC and immersive audio on demand
Featuring hardware and software integrated solution, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro and FreeLace Pro intelligently identify the type of ambient noise based on the user’s immediate surroundings and switch between three profiles – General, Cosy, and Ultimate – to offer the optimal noise-canceling performance. Further, FreeBuds Pro delivers the best noise-canceling performance yet on a Huawei audio product with an industry-leading noise cancellation rating of 40dB.
Dual Connection with Android, iOS, and Windows smart systems means users can seamlessly switch between devices without being tied to one brand, and the new gesture control enables users to take control of the earphones by performing a swipe or a pinch on the cubic earphone stem.
Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro and Huawei Watch Fit: practical pro-grade features
The new Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro offers up to two weeks of battery life, more than 100 workout modes, plus pro-grade fitness data tracking features. The watch also supports apps to provide a convenient means for users to get more features from the device. It’s unclear at this stage if Huawei has implemented the ability to install 3rd party apps like Spotify.
Launched alongside the GT 2 Pro, Huawei Watch Fit is the first Huawei sports smartwatch to feature a rounded rectangular watch face design. The smartwatch combines a dazzling 1.64-inch AMOLED display, which lends itself to displaying more content and better interactive experience.
Huawei MateBook X and MateBook 14: mobile productivity redefined
The Huawei MateBook X combines the flagship series’ iconic design and innovative technology with an improved lightweight design and smart features. Weighing 1kg, the lightweight notebook measures 13.6mm at its thickest part and are smaller than a piece of A4 paper, so users can slide it into most backpacks and not be weighed down.
The MateBook X is the first notebook from Huawei to feature a 3K Infinite FullView Display, realized with a borderless design that offers an immersive viewing experience and stunning image quality. The display is also multitouch-enabled with gesture support such as Fingers Gesture Screenshot, which lets users take a screenshot by swiping downwards on the screen with three fingers.
Powered by a 10th Generation Intel Core processor, the new flagship notebook delivers the performances needed for daily tasks. The touchpad is 26 percent larger compared to the previous generation for better ease-of-use and now features Huawei Free Touch to offer full haptic feedback.
Huawei also unveiled the Huawei MateBook 14, the benchmark of high-performance laptops in the era of mobile productivity. Featuring a highly portable design and powerful performance, MateBook 14 integrates the AMD Ryzen 4000 H Series processor, with Huawei Shark Fin Fans delivering improved thermal performance under intense workloads.
Besides performance, it has a 2K Huawei FullView Display and supports smart features including Multi-screen Collaboration to help consumers stay productive on the road.

REVIEW HUAWEI P40 QUICKLY
On the evening of March 27, 2020, Huawei released its latest Smartphone models despite the intense Corona epidemic. The products that Huawei launched in this event are Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro. However, this article, @ chanhnguyen00 will not touch the P40 Pro, which we will quickly review Huawei P40.
youtube
Design Huawei P40
Different from the large sized glass design with the wonderful curved screen technology on the Huawei P40 Pro. The Huawei P40 has been reduced in size both in terms of screen and curved screen technology. Obviously, Huawei P40 is considered an extremely reasonable replacement with an affordable price compared to the P40 Pro.
Tumblr media
The Huawei P40 screen uses a completely flat OLED film with Full HD + resolution and the same 6.1-inch size, it will give viewers an almost equivalent sharpness to the P40 Pro.
The weakness of this screen is the freshness of the colors. The freshness of the P40 is only 60Hz compared to 90Hz of the P40 Pro. This is a normal freshness, can be said to be average, because now as you know, Samsung has also released a screen with a definition of 120Hz.
Huawei P40 Camera Cluster
During the introduction, Huawei announced that Huawei P40 will have 3 camera clusters. The main camera on the back is a 50 MP "Ultra Vision" module with a 1 / 1.28-inch sensor. The zoom camera has 80 mm lens, supports OIS and 8 MP resolution, ultra wide angle camera with 16 MP sensor and 17 mm lens. Besides, Camera Selfie will have a sensor of 32 MP and can autofocus. However, the P40 series will not have an infrared scanner on the front, but in return, it will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Tumblr media
Huawei P40 hardware
In 2020, Huawei will equip the Kirin 990 5G chip with the integration of 7nm + EUV process which will help Huawei P40 have an extremely stable performance.
Tumblr media
This year's Huawei P40 product line has the basic equipment of dust and water protection with IP53 standard. Besides, this smartphone is also equipped with a battery with a capacity of 3,800 mAh. The weakness of the P40 series battery charger is that it does not support 40W wireless charging, but only supports 22.5W wired charging.
Huawei P40 software
Surely, you also know that the bad relationship between Huawei and Google has made the Huawei app ecosystem very difficult. However, Huawei has almost completed its own ecosystem for P40 with applications that can completely replace Google's software.
Huawei has launched a new smartphone with Android 10 and AppGallery. In particular, MeeTime is a voice and video calling application with screen sharing. It can also serve as a video streaming platform for other products, for example: Drones and action cameras ... Celia is the new voice assistant that supports English, French and Spanish. Nha. It can handle everything from basic tasks. Huawei has partnered with several companies (including TCL) for a protocol like Google Cast. It also developed a system for simple wireless content sharing between devices.
Tumblr media
Huawei P40 price
The Huawei P40 will have a starting price of 799 Euro (approximately 20 million dongs) for 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM version.
Currently, CellphoneS has a Huawei P40 reservation program with many attractive gifts such as:
- Free Freebuds 3 headphones worth VND 4,290,000
You can order genuine Huawei P40 or Huawei P40 Pro at CellphoneS.

Huawei FreeBuds 3 Review
Tumblr media
Earbuds with wireless technology are getting very popular with consumers and manufacturers alike. In the last few months, there were many new options to the market which included ones from companies that would not normally think of as audio companies such as Microsoft or Amazon. However, it's Apple however, which remains the most popular through its AirPods and the brand-new AirPods Pro.
Huawei FreeBuds 3 are the Huawei's response to AirPods 2. AirPods 2. They're very similar in appearance, they feature similar charging cases and come with several of the same features.
But FreeBuds 3 FreeBuds 3 are not just the answer to another company's popular product. They are a stand-alone product due to features like active noise cancellation. It's the first time in history for earbuds that are open-fit and something that Apple has only introduced this week to AirPods Pro. AirPods Pro. The brand new FreeBuds cost EUR179 and are therefore not exactly an impulse purchase. Do you need them? Find out more in the Huawei Freebuds 3 review.
What is these Huawei FreeBuds 3 like?
You knew it was coming The FreeBuds 3 are unashamed AirPods copies. They're very like Apple AirPods 2. Apple AirPods 2, to the point where it's difficult to distinguish the two indistinguishable.
Similar to similar to AirPods 2, but unlike the AirPods Pro, the FreeBuds 3 feature an open-fit style which means they are inserted into your ear rather than plugging into the ear canal. It's an interesting combination.
They're very comfortable, and you can wear them for long periods of time, and then forget that you've put them on. In the same way they provide little or no protection from external noise, which can affect the quality of sound. The active noise cancellation helps to some extent, but it's not enough to counter anything more loud than, say the whirring sound of the ceiling fan. They fit well inside my ear, and did not fall out, regardless of my efforts try to remove them. The experience you have with them will differ and, as a precaution I did not use these buds for exercise.
They fit perfectly within my ears and did not want to come out.
As with many other genuine wireless earbuds Huawei FreeBuds 3 case also doubles as a charger and comes with its own battery that allows users to charge their earbuds when you travel. The case is equipped with a capacity of 410mAh. Huawei claims that it will suffice to charge the earbuds approximately four times more.
The case is a major element to this FreeBuds 3 experience - just like the earbuds. It is light, but well-constructed even if it's not a lot of fancy. The lid that is spring loaded closes with satisfying snap. My main concern is the durability over time of the hinge, since it's already becoming a little looser after a couple of days of usage.
The FreeBuds 3 are IPX4-certified. This means that you don't have to be concerned about rain or sweat However, you shouldn't wash them or place them in the pool.
How do you use the FreeBuds 3?
You can make use of freeBuds3 FreeBuds 3 either on their own or by using Huawei's AI Life app.
To connect with the FreeBuds 3, open the case (leave the earphones inside) and press the button on the back that is inside the case. Hold it for 2 seconds until the light inside the case begins to blink. The case will go into pairing mode. They can then be connected to your device of choice through your Bluetooth menu.
I tried the FreeBuds with a half-dozen devices operating Android, Windows, and iOS and they were worked quickly and smoothly every time.
The FreeBuds 3 does not have any physical controls, besides the pairing button that is located on the case. Instead, you can control them using double-tap gestures, or by using AI Life, the AI Life app.
In the box A tapping twice on one earbud switches the active noise cancelling. Double-taps on the right earbud initiates the playback (if you've stopped it) as well as skips over to the following track.
The earbuds typically detect taps with precision however they're not 100% impervious to adversity. Sometimes, they don't detect the double tap. This is even more irritating There were a couple of times while I was moving the right earbud into my ear, the tap was taken to be double tapping, resulting in a skip.
You can alter what double-tap gestures are doing by using Huawei's AI Life app. You can make them play/pause or wake AI Life's voice assistant. You can also eliminate them entirely. You can also modify the level of actively-activated noise cancellation.
If you do not download AI Life, the FreeBuds will function just like similar Bluetooth headphones. There's still double-tap feature but you'll not be able to alter or disable the gestures. If you are able to connect them to the Huawei smartphone (maybe in a shop) the modifications you make to the double-tap gestures are carried across to other devices.
The AI Life is a nice addition, but it's by no means an absolute requirement to utilize and appreciate the FreeBuds 3.
Its AI Life is a nice feature, but it's not a requirement for you to make use of and enjoy FreeBuds 3. It's just an added additional convenience.
There are however a few features that are exclusive to Huawei devices that are running EMUI 10. This includes Wearing Detection that plays back and stops when you remove your earbuds and put them back into the Pop-up Window which displays a pop-up window on your phone to make it easier for you to connect your headphones.
Huawei's "Isochronous Dual Channel connection" technology is also available only exclusively to EMUI 10 devices. It transmits information to each earbud in a separate way and has several advantages: longer battery life, less latency, and greater speeds of transmission. Other brands transmit information to one of the earbuds and then bounce it over to the next earbud, which isn't as efficient.
What and when should you bill the?
It is possible to recharge the FreeBuds 3 using the USB-C cable or wirelessly. If you decide to go the wireless option then you can charge it with a charger that is specifically designed for Huawei, like its SuperCharger wireless, or a device equipped with reverse wireless charging such as Samsung Galaxy S10 or the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 or Note 10.
When fully charged the FreeBuds 3 is expected to last around 4 hours of continuous playback. By enabling active noise cancellation, the device will help draw more battery power. The best results are achieved using an Huawei device that runs EMUI 10. A fully charged battery will provide an additional 16 hours, which brings the battery's total life up to 20 hours.
The majority of listeners won't be listening for more than four hours at a time which is why the case can function as a portable power source. If you're not an avid listener, you'll likely be able to charge every week or once.
What is you think the Huawei FreeBuds 3 sound like?
I was delighted by the quality of sound on Huawei FreeBuds 3. Huawei FreeBuds 3. The sound is clear and enjoyable in the middle. The bass isn't as deep or sounding bass you'd find in other headphones, but this is enough for my preferences and listening preferences. The bass of this particular model is impressive.
Huawei FreeBuds 3 Tech and specifications:
Kirin A1 chip with Bluetooth 5.1 and BLE 5.1 (world first)
Codecs: AAC, SBC
Dual-channel isochronous connectivity (smaller energy consumption and greater speed of transmission)
Noise cancellation with active noise (world first open-fit earphones) with adaptive features, up to 15dB

Huawei FreeBuds 4 review
Huawei might have trouble in the smartphone field, but it's doing a tremendous job with audio wearables. We ’ve had the chance to review the company ’s flagship TWS, the Huawei Freebuds Pro, and now we got the Freebuds 4i-a more affordable option that retains the Active Noise Cancellation and brings a great battery life.
Design and comfort
The free buds we admitted were in Carbon Black, but you can also have them in Red or Ceramic White (no no concrete ceramic included). We begin the bone we got is the dressy choice of all because it can be matched with any outfit without being an accentuation (like like the red account) or have the AirPods lookalike vibe, like the white option.
The bairns are an advance over the Freebuds 3i with a slightly thicker stems, and there are rubber tips for a better fit. One absorbing thing that Huawei is doing is boat the different size rubber tips in separate labeled packages, making it a bit fleetly to find the size you want.
Tumblr media
The stems have strong lodestones at the very end, so the younglings do n’t fall out of the case. Notwithstanding, with their satiny finish, it's sometimes hard to get the younglings out, but ultimately you will get the hang of it.
The younglings themselves are really comfortable in the notice, and they can stay there for the whole five-hour listening marathon. There's also a touch detector on the stem, which is easy to navigate and doesn't affect comfort or placement.
Features
The Huawei Freebuds 4i can be connected with any device through Bluetooth and act as standard wireless earphones. Notwithstanding, to get all the supererogatory features, you need the Huawei AI Life app. Pro tip-download it from the AppGallery or the QR decalogue on the box because, as the company corroborated with us; the Google Play performance might have issues with somenon-Huawei smartphones.
The app allows you to check the battery charge reaches and customize the moppets' controls- neglect is double- spigot for play/ pause, touch& hold is noise control modes. There are three of those modes- Noise cancellation, Off, and Heed. While long press cycles through all of them, you can disable some of them through the app.
The Off mode is the failure on the Freebuds 4i-and presently might be the place to note that the tolerating noise reserve is like strong as due to the sprats' tight fit. We can confirm this is the optimal way to hearken to music-it produces the most natural sound and gets the longest battery life.
Knowledge activates the outside mic and amplifies the environing noise. It works great with short intercourses like speaking to a cashier, but is not how you would want to walk around.
Noise- canceling is the vital trait, and that ’s why we left it for morsel. There are n’t numerous TWS earphones with ANC in this price range on the request, and Huawei did a tremendous job with the pursuance of the trait. The microphones do a great job of detecting terrain noise at office or home and reduce it significantly.
The earphones also offer great sound experience during calls. The Freebuds 4i have a twofold-mic system that reduces outdoorsy wind noise, and thanks to the beamforming technology (locating locating where the your voice comes from), talking on the phone is soft.
Battery Life
Huawei Freebuds 4i have a 55mAh power cell in each whelp, and the case has 215mAh capacity. The company claims 10-hour unceasing playback time at 50 volume with ANC turned off, and AAC mode enabled.
Farther impressively, we managed to reproduce that kind of continuousness in real- life testing. We got the same result with a Huawei P40 Pro as well as anon-Huawei phone, so there is little to worry about.
With ANC or Awareness turned on and the volume at 100, the Freebuds 4i can play continuously for over 4 hours, but we mistrust anybody will go that loud for so long.
You also get a decent recharge time of about 30 nanoseconds for the Freebuds 4i, meaning you will rarely have issues with their charging. Fully drained sprats and case take just under an hour to recharge.
The only thing the Freebuds 4i are lacking is wireless charging, but some corners required be cut to make the price marker.
Audio Quality
The Huawei Freebuds 4i have polymeric diaphragms and 10 mm dynamic coil motorists, which work nicely together and bring clear sound.
The children are a solid choice for a day-to-day automobilist. Music on Spotify or Tidal sounds punchy, the sound is balanced, and the ditties are well defined. There is n’t any equalizer in the AI Life app, so you can tune the sound only if your smartphone has Dolby Atmos or analogous system- wide equalizer.
Verdict
The Huawei Freebuds 4i are freely among the more emotional wireless ANC earphones in their price classification. The company did a great job fixing everything that was wrong with the Freebuds 3i while maintaining the aggressive price-better design for both the child and the case, concrete active noise cancellation, and easy navigation.
The 10-hour continual playtime is a benefit when we've to work without being abstracted at home. The quick charging and the solid sonic experience make for an overall great package.
Speaking about pricing, the Huawei Freebuds 4i are available across Europe for£ 79/€ 99, but there are multiple deals and offers. There's a free Huawei Band 4 with the kiddies' purchase in nth demands, but you can also get blinked Watch Fit, speakers, cases, and yea a six-month free subscription to Huawei Music.
Notwithstanding, you should clearly have them on your shortlist, If Huawei is offering the FreeBuds 4i in your country. They're some of the multiple TWS earphones that offer so multifold features that enrich the experience yea further.

The Galaxy Buds Pro – Its Features & Other Things You Need to Know
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds have an excellent sound and noise-canceling system that works fantastically with Samsung devices. It will not be an overstatement to say that Galaxy Buds Pro is a good alternative for AirPods.
Samsung has finally launched Galaxy Buds Pro that can be considered as the true wireless earbuds in all respects. Tech experts and everyday users are looking at these pair of Galaxy Buds as a reliable alternative to Apple AirPods. Everyone is providing the top ranking to Galaxy Buds Pro. However, it was not a day’s game. It took several iterations for Samsung to bring such earbuds with such exceptional quality and technology. Samsung deserves huge applause and praises for its designers at the company busy designing Galaxy Buds Pro refused to copy the design Apple used in its AirPods. They stuck to their original and unique design. Finally, the result is in front of everyone in Galaxy Buds Pro with intuitive features and technology.
Last year,  the launch of Galaxy Buds Plus and Buds Live by Samsung was a solid offering. But, they lacked meaningful transparency modes and active noise cancellation. This year, Samsung has launched Galaxy Buds Pro after adding both enhanced features. These improved features have made a significant difference pushing Galaxy Buds Pro to everyone’s top ranking. It can be said that the purchase of Harman/AKG in the year 2017 has played a significant role in creating some quality and unique accessories for enhanced audio. Samsung has made substantial changes and choices in the design of the earbuds.
Here is a brief description of the features included in Galaxy Buds Pro.
Samsung Galaxy Pro: Design
Galaxy Buds Pro is not similar in design to AirPods launched by Apple or many other earbuds inspired by AirPods. The design is also not identical to the last wireless earbuds, Galaxy Buds in the bean-shaped Samsung has offered. Galaxy Buds Pro appears in a semi-circular design with a silicone ear tip that can be removed easily. You can nestle this silicone ear tip in your ear canal conveniently.
Each earbud is 6.3g and light enough; however, they look a bit bulky. Galaxy Buds Pro comes in two colors – silver or black with a silver coating reflective mirror. This reflective part of the Galaxy Buds Pro function as a touch panel to control audio. Your single tap can pause or play music, a double-tap can skip tracks, and with a long press, you can cycle between transparency or noise-canceling modes. The charging case of Galaxy Buds Pro appears much like an engagement box and is compact. Regarding the Galaxy Buds Pro design, Samsung has said that they were designed to relieve pressure by minimizing contact with the users’ ears.
Transparency and Noise Cancellation Modes
The transparency and noise cancellation modes are far better than other earbuds launched by many other earbuds brands. Its transparency mode is also excellent. It has automatic switching between transparency mode and noise-canceling modes. The Galaxy Buds Pro has in-built three mics into each bud, working in unison to analyze the sounds coming from outside so the software can either pass them or mute them. The voice detection feature of this earbud works very well.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro: Audio & Mic Quality
Galaxy Buds Pro’s audio quality is quite good, with a dual driver system consisting of 6.5 mm tweeters and 11mm woofers in each bud. There is a separation between the vocals sound crisp, and mids and highs. It provides the right mix when you are listening to a podcast or music. The Galaxy Buds Pro supports universal audio standards of AAC and SBC and also the Samsung-proprietary codec. Its microphones and connectivity are also impressive. The earbud features six presets.
Apart from these, the battery life of the earbud is also impressive. It can run about five hours on a single charge with either transparency or noise-canceling mode on. Also, the charging case of the earbud carries another charge for almost 18 hours. The earbud will cost you less than AirPods Pro of Apple and FreeBuds Pro of Huawei. Besides, you can use the SmartThings App to find out your misplaced earbuds. If you want to use Galaxy Buds Pro on another Android device, you can download the Galaxy Wearable app and pair them. You can’t pair these earbuds manually.

Huawei P30 Pro New Edition goes up for pre-order in Germany
The P30 Pro is Huawei's last flagship smartphone that was able to launch with Google apps and services onboard, and the Chinese company has been milking this fact ever since. First we got some new colors last fall during IFA, and now there's a P30 Pro New Edition coming. Sony H.ear On 3 Review | Are they better than the Sony WH1000X-M3?
Listen, hear real quick. Today I’m comparing the new Sony WH-910N H.ear On 3 headphones to the Sony WH1000X-M3. I’m going to break it down into 4 sections. Design, usability, sound quality and at the end awesome features. Are you ready…let’s go.
SONY wh-h910n h.ear on 3 - current price
Design
So when I first unboxed the new WH-H910N Hear On 3 headphones I thought they looked smaller and felt lighter than the 1000X M3. After further inspection, I discovered the truth. Which is there’s not that much difference in size & weight. I put both sets headphones on a scale and there both around 220 grams. The XM3 maybe a couple of points over. But anyway… Let’s get the obvious differences out of the way first.
Tumblr media
The 1000X M3 are available in two colours matt black & a gold tan & the Hear on 3 come in 5 different colours with each one having different patterns on the padding. Some style points for the Hear on 3’s Also, the finish on the Hear on 3 is this kind of textured matt, where the 1000XM3 is kind of smooth & much more prone to fingerprints.
Tumblr media
The way the fold down the same making them compact, However you get a much more premium hard case with the XM3’s and just a canvas draw bag with the H.ear on 3. Something I like about the Sony Hear on 3 is the provided analog cable which matches colour of the headset. That’s not to say the XM3s don’t…but just colour…nice.
Button and port placements are almost identical, with the only difference being the location of the USB C port. The H.ear on 3 has it all in 1 place and the XM3s are on the opposite side. The Sony Branding locations are also different but quite subtle on both. Of course, the flagship 1000X M3 having a little more bling with the rose gold trim and branding on the band.
Tumblr media
The outer NC mics are in the same spot on the backs of the ear-cups. But the forward and back NC mics are slightly closer together on the Hear on 3’s just behind the hanger. The location of the voice call might appears to be in a better spot on the Hear on 3…a little be closer than the XM3. We’ll test that out un a min.
The Hinges and the Headband with reinforced plastic are pretty much the same. However, there is a big difference. it’s the drivers. The Hear on 3 has 25mm drivers and the 1000X M3 has 40mm. This will of course impact the sound quality and sound stage performance. I’ll get into that in the sound quality section of the video.
Although the Hear on 3 drivers is smaller. Sony has made some tweaks here to help improve the sound delivered by the 25mm drivers. If you look closely at the inside of the WH1000X M3 ear-cups, there’s a bit of soft foam padding around the driver. Whereas on the Hear On 3 there’s just a fine netting & the drivers will sit much closer to your ear. Sony says the WH-H910n Hear On 3 headphones can achieve the same sound pressure as conventional 40mm drivers. We shall see. (In the sound quality section) Another difference here is the size of padding on the ear-cups. The Hear On 3 has significantly more…which could arguably make them more comfortable for some people.
Tumblr media
Usability
So the number one and most notable difference here is the 35Hr battery life delivered by the Hear On 3. That’s 5 Hrs more than the 1000X M3. It’s also worth noting the 1000X M3 can deliver up to 38Hrs with ANC off and the Hear on 3 just 45Hrs. So that’s an interesting fact. This is something you should factor that in when making your purchase decision.
Touch controls are present on both. Swipe right or left to skip tracks. Up and down for volume. Tap to play pause, double-tap to answer calls and long push to wake your assistant. Lets not forget that placing your palm over the right ear-cup will activate the outer mics and mute your music so you can here what’s going on around you.
Tumblr media
Sony have improved the placement of the voice call mic. It now sits bit closer to where your mouth would be when wearing them.
To see if the Mic quality has improved on the new Sony H.ear on 3 headphones watch the review video for audio samples.
When it comes to noise canceling. I’ve gotta say its virtually identical in my opinion. They both use Sonys class-leading QN1 chip and the same amount of NC mics. Honestly they so close. Both are amazing when it comes to ANC. Of course, the app functionality is the same. One cool thing you can do is customize the C button on the Hear on 3 within the app to wake Alexa, Siri or Google assistant & if your wondering yes you can do the same thing with the 1000XM3 by recapping NC/ambient button.
Tumblr media
Comfort you’d probably think this would be a win for the Hear On 3 headphones just off if the amount of padding. But for me the clamping pressure is a little stronger…maybe that’s because they’re newer than my XM3’s…but if you asked me I say the XM3 are just a bit more comfortable.
If you have quite a small head you might find the headband too large…If you look at them side by side you can see the headband is quite a bit taller. for example, for me I use them. I wear them without extending the headband at all. Both headphones fair with for prolonged usage. Yes, your ears may heat up a little in warm environments.. but neither one considerably more than the other.
Sound Quality
So 4 tracks, five different genres. Let’s go. Watch the Sony H.ear On Sound Test video to see exactly what tracks I used in this review.
Hip Hop - So when it comes to the overall volume. They are very both very close to max volume. The difference I can hear now listening to the H.ear on 3 is there seems to be an emphasis on clarity. In the mids and Hi’s. The bass is certainly more powerful on the XM3.
Electronic - Again both amazing clarity. For this type of music, the H.ear on 3 performs well. Deep enough bass but not too much it’s overpowering the rest of the music. However, I gotta say I feel the soundstage is significantly wider on the XM3’s. The bass is more powerful and maybe a bit too powerful…but of course you can tweak that in the Sony Headphones app.
Rock - This has to be the closest category so far. Again the soundstage goes to the XM3. However, the H.ear on 3 delivers awesome clarity here. This is a well-suited genre for these.
Classical - So this category is all about the clarity of the vocals and soundstage performance of the orchestra. The XM3 wins on a soundstage but the Hear On 3 is impressive here with its fantastic clarity…but overall the XM3 edges out the victory.
Awesome Features
Hear on 3 • awesome colour range & build quality • Above average bass levels despite the smaller drivers. • 10mins 2.5hrs
The next 3 apply to both XM3 & Hear on 3 • crazy amount of customisation via the app • 360 reality audio support • Support Hi-Res Audio & LDAC • DSEE HX Audio Up-scaler • class-leading adaptive ANC
WH1000X-M3 • Adaptive noise canceling (XM3 barometer) • Immense Bass levels & wider soundstage • current price cheaper than the Hear on 3
SUMMARY
So ultimately it comes down to you… do you want a more striking colourful look. Plus 5Hrs more power when using ANC. If so the Sony H.ear on 3 are perfect pairs for you. Or is 30Hrs battery enough for you & you don’t care about the new striking colour and patterns on the ear-cups and care more about the overall sound quality… Then you should go for the 1000 XM3.
If you guys liked this review I’d appreciate a thumbs up. And if you’re shopping around you might want to take a look at the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 they’re a strong competitor to both of these headphones…thumbnails on the screen right now. Go check that out. If you just subscribed, you’re now one of the finest subscribers known to man. See ya in the next one…don’t be late.
