Huawei and Honor phones 2019 Review
Tumblr media
As known, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd was founded in 1987 by a former engineer of the People's Liberation Army of China. Today, its share reaches 13% of global smartphone sales, second only to Samsung (19%). For example, in 2018, its revenue reached $ 107 billion, providing a profit of about $ 8.8 billion. A significant share of the company's products is sold under the Honor brand, which also belongs to Huawei. Of course, these smartphones have several key features that stably provide their popularity growth. The company annually introduces new models. 2019 was no exception. The company introduced several very interesting innovative phones, including the Nova 5, 5i and 5 Pro, P30 Lite, P30 and P30 Pro, Mate X and Mate 30 Pro, Honor 10i, 20, 20 Pro and View 20. Models of the budget Y-series usually have plastic cases and basic equipment.
Tumblr media
Often the company re-releases the popular models of this series, improving their key features. Usually they use RAM up to 3GB, TN- or IPS-matrix and entry-level 4-core chipsets from MediaTek and Qualcomm Snapdragon. Some models, for example Y7, use a dual-module camera. Low price and good quality provide them with high popularity, despite the lack of flagship options (USB Type-C, NFC, face unlock, etc).
Huawei Nova
In 2016, the company introduced the first generation of Huawei Nova. These smartphones were similar to the simplified flagships of the Samsung Galaxy A and used the Nexus 6P development experience that Huawei had previously done for Google. Thus, the series ranks between good mid-budget phones and simplified flagships. Success inspired the company to further develop this series. In 2019, Huawei introduced the Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro, and Nova 5i.
Tumblr media
The flagship Huawei Nova 5 Pro has a 6.39-inch OLED display with 2340 x 1080 resolution (Full HD+) and a pixel density of 403 ppi. The screen supports DCI-P3 color space and DC dimming. The model uses the flagship Kirin 980 chipset, 8GB RAM, 256GB internal flash memory, and a 3,500 mAh battery, supporting fast charging (85% in 30 minutes). Additionally, Nova 5 Pro has an excellent four camera system, which includes the main module (48MP Sony IMX586 sensor), 16MP Ultra-Wide module, 2MP Depth module and 2MP module for macro shots. Moreover, the phone supports night and portrait modes, and AI functions to optimize shooting. The 32MP front camera supports the innovative Super Pixel (Quad Pixel, Quad Bayer, TetraCell) technology, combining 4 adjacent pixels into one large pixel to capture more light in low light conditions.
Tumblr media
Huawei Nova 5 differs only in the new Kirin 810 chipset and 6/128GB vs 8/256GB in Huawei Nova 5 Pro. In fact, Nova 5i has become the Chinese version of Huawei P20 Lite (2019). It uses a 6.4-inch IPS matrix, 710F chipset, and 6/128GB. The four camera system has a 24MP main sensor, a 16MP sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP Depth module and a ToF sensor. The battery capacity reaches 4000 mAh.
Huawei P series
In 2019, the company introduced the P30 series, including the P30 Lite, P30 and P30 Pro. P30 Lite uses a frameless 6.15-inch LTPS screen with 1080 x 2312 (FullHD +) resolution (415 ppi density), a 8-core Kirin 710, 4GB RAM, a triple camera system and a 3340 mAh battery.
Tumblr media
The most compact P30 uses an 8-core Kirin 980 chipset, a frameless 6.1-inch OLED display with speaker and scanner. Its resolution reaches 2340 x 1080 (Full HD+) resolution (422 ppi density), and 4200 mAh battery.
Tumblr media
Many experts consider the P30 the best multi-camera smartphone. It has triple camera system with 40MP+ 20MP+ 8MP sensors with f/1.8, f/2.2 and f/2.4 aperture. As know, Huawei cameras are ahead of the competition in terms of night mode quality and zooming. The P30 was no exception, demonstrating superb night shooting and high-quality hybrid zoom. In night mode, the camera takes several pictures with different exposures and combines them, forming an image with an extended dynamic range. Such photos contain significantly less shaded areas, improved detail and color accuracy.
Tumblr media
Huawei P30 Pro
In fact, the P30 Pro was the replacement of the super popular 2018 Mate 20 Pro, which successfully competed even with the Samsung Galaxy S10+.
Tumblr media
P30 Pro uses a 6.47-inch AMOLED display with 2340 x 1080 resolution, 398 ppi, HiSilicon Kirin 980 (7nm, ARM 2 x Cortex-A76 2.6 GHz + 2 x Cortex-A76 1.92 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A55 1.58 GHz), Mali-G76 MP10, RAM 8GB and128GB/256GB/512GB. In addition, the flagship has a four camera system, including the main 40MP sensor (f/1.6) with optical stabilization, a 20MP sensor (f/2.2) with a wide-angle lens, telephoto (f/3.4) with x5 optical and x10 hybrid zoom, ToF (time of flight ), and supports laser, phase and contrast autofocus. Many experts looked forward with interest to the continuation of the magnificent Mate 20 Pro. But the platform and specs of the new flagship have not changed much. Of course, the P30 Pro looks great in the flagship segment in terms of shooting. For example, today only it has 5x optical zoom. But the price significantly reduces its competitiveness compared, for example, with the Mate 20 Pro or P20 Pro. The price/quality ratio of last year's flagships wins significantly compared to the P30 Pro. Unfortunately for consumers, the company effectively solved this problem by limiting the offerings the Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro.
Huawei Mate series
Traditionally, Huawei Mate series contains models with large screens. But in recent years, the rapid increase in the size of their diagonals has significantly shifted the gradations between the large, medium and small screens. According to rumors, the company is considering the possibility of combining it with the P series into a single flagship series. The difference in specs of 30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro shows an approximate level of difference for the models in these series.
Tumblr media
Huawei P30 Pro vs Huawei Mate 30 Pro - Kirin 980 chipset (2018) vs Kirin 990 (2019) with latest Cortex-A76 ARM design; - 6.47-inches OLED vs 6.53-inches OLED Display; - 2340 x 1080 (398ppi) vs 2400 x 1176 (409ppi); - 8GB+128GB/256GB/512GB vs 8GB+256GB; - 4200mAh vs 4500mAh In addition, P30 Pro uses main 40MP sensor, f/1.6 + 20MP Ultra-Wide, f/2.2 + 8MP Tele, 5x optical, f/3.4 + ToF depth sensing. Mate 30 Pro has main 40MP sensor, f/1.6 + 40MP Ultra-Wide, f/1.8 + 8MP Tele 3x optical, f/2.4 + ToF depth sensing. The 2019 Huawei Mate series contains Huawei Mate X и Mate 30 Pro. At the end of February 2019, at the MWC in Barcelona, Huawei introduced the folding Mate X with an estimated price of more than $ 2,500.
Tumblr media
The model uses an 8-inch AMOLED display, providing: - open: 2200 x 2480 (8: 7.1); - folded front: 2480 x 1148, (19.5: 9); - folded back: 2480 x 892 (25: 9). In addition, the Mate X has an 8-core Kirin 980, 8GB RAM, 4500 mAh battery, a three-module camera, including a main 40MP (f/1.8), 8MP telephoto (f/2.4), 16MP wide-angle (f/2.2) and ToF camera for 3D scanning.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro
Many experts called the Huawei Mate 30 Pro the most innovative smartphone of the year.
Tumblr media
The model uses one of the best modern chipsets. 7nm 8-core HiSilicon Kirin 990 (2 x Cortex-A76, 2.86 GHz + 2 x Cortex-A76, 2.09 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A55, 1.86 GHz) with a Mali-G76 GPU and with twice number of NPU (Neural Processing Unit) is only slightly inferior in speed of data exchange to the latter Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus. In addition, the Mate 30 Pro received EMUI 10 for Android 10. As known, cooperation with the famous German Leica Camera AG radically improved the quality of Huawei's cameras, allowing the company to seize leadership in the segment of camera phones. Mate 30 Pro is no exception. The model uses a set of great sensors, including: - 40MP, 18 mm, f/1.8 (Cine Camera); - 40MP, 27 mm, f/1.6, with OIS (SuperSensing Camera); - 8MP, Telephoto, 80 mm, f/2.4, with 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid and 30x digital zoom and OIS; - 3D Depth Sensing Camera; - 32MP, 26 mm, f / 2.0 (front, without stabilization and autofocus).
Tumblr media
Moreover, Mate 30 Pro has 6.53-inches OLED Display with 2400 х 1176 (FullHD+) resolution and 409 ppi density, 100% sRGB color coating, maximum brightness of 450 nits and its automatic adjustment. Unfortunately, the screen flickers slightly due to the low frequency PWM. As known, the flickering the OLED screens causes eye strain. On the other hand, OLED provides almost infinite contrast and very accurate color reproduction.
Pros & Cons
PROS - innovative Horizon Display design; - a magnificent set of cameras; - fast and accurate face unlock; - excellent phone performance with Kirin 990; - improved gesture control; - fast wireless charging, reverse wireless charging; - fast operation of the fingerprint scanner; - IP68 (protection against water and dust); - a powerful speakerphone. CONS - the price is about $ 1,000; - no stereo speakers; - flickering screen; - no NFC; - problems accessing Google services.
Honor
Huawei Technologies founded Honor as one of the brands of its smartphones in 2013. Initially, it was positioned in the budget and mid-budget segments for young people. Since 2016, Honor has been selling its products mainly via the Internet, minimizing operating costs. As a result, price of Honor smartphones have an advantage over their competitors. The stunning success of the brand provoked its rapid development. As a result, today the company produces several successful Honor series, including the flagship (under a certain number), a, i, v, x, Lite, etc. Formally, Honor is one of the Huawei series. But, in fact, many perceive it as an independent brand. Moreover, the popularity of Honor is not inferior to Huawei. For example, in the second quarter of 2018, its share reached 55% of the total sales of Huawei smartphones. The company is constantly updating its line of smartphones, annually offering new models. 2019 is no exception. The company introduced the Honor 20 and 20 Pro, Honor View 20, Honor 10i, 9X and 9X Pro, 8A, 8S, 10 and 20 Lite.
Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20, Honor View 20 and Honor 10i
Tumblr media
The flagship Honor 20 Pro uses a 6.26-inch frameless IPS screen with a 2340 x 1080 resolution (19.5: 9 ratio and 412 ppi density), an 8-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset with Mali-G76 MP10, Android 9.0, RAM 8GB, 4000 mAh battery, has a fingerprint scanner and NFC, and also supports two SIM cards. Four-module camera: - 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, f / 1.4; - 16MP ultra wide-angle module; - 8MP telephoto; - 2MP. The phone also has a 32MP front camera. Honor 20 differs only in a set of cameras, lack of laser autofocus and a smaller battery capacity (3750 mAh vs 4000 mAh).
Tumblr media
The flagship Honor View 20 for the first time in the world uses a front camera built into the screen.
Tumblr media
It uses a 6,4-inch frameless IPS screen with a 2310 x 1080 resolution (398 ppi density), an 8-core Kirin 980 chipset with Mali-G76 MP10, Android 9.0, RAM 6GB, 4000 mAh battery, has a fingerprint scanner and NFC, and also supports two SIM cards. In February 2019, the model took second place in performance, behind only the Samsung Galaxy S10+, whose price is twice as high. The dual-module camera uses two gorgeous 48MP sensors with f/1.8. According to many experts, the quality of its photography surpasses even the Mate 20 Pro. Today, Honor 10i is one of the most popular mid-budget model in the Honor price list.
Tumblr media
It uses a 6.21-inch frameless IPS screen, Kirin 710, RAM 4GB, has a fingerprint scanner and NFC, and also supports two SIM cards.
Conclusion
Despite problems with sanctions, the Chinese giant continues to be one of the leaders in this segment. The magnificent cameras created in collaboration with the famous German Leica Camera AG, the excellent HiSilicon Kirin chipsets, which today successfully compete even with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus and the very promising Harmony OS complement the company's traditional advantages, including its flexible pricing policy and a huge assortment. Moreover, Harris Interactive has recently conducted research in terms of the phobes reliability of smafons. They analyzed 130,050 cases of after-sales appeals of customers of a large European Darty retail network. Unexpectedly for many, Honor and Huawei took two first places, ahead of even Apple. According to these results, Honor, Huawei and iPhone today have the lowest failure rate and breakdowns, being the most reliable smartphones. Perhaps the Chinese manufacturer for the first time ahead of traditional leaders in this indicator. This video offers camera comparison of Huawei Mate 30 Pro vs Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Best Android Phones in 2019, will you like to purchase?
After a sluggish few years in the Android world, 2019 has been a smash-hit for smartphone fans. We’ve already seen a few interesting phones with foldable designs, punch-hole displays, and as many as six cameras. These include the Samsung Galaxy S10, OnePlus 7 Pro, Huawei P30 Pro, Nokia 9 PureView, and many more.  But the year is still far from over. If you want to know more about the handsets you can look forward to, check out our list of the best upcoming Android phones arriving in 2019.
Best Android Phones in 2019
Pocophone F2  LG G8X  Google Pixel 4 series Huawei Mate 30 Pro  Motorola Razr foldable phone  Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 OnePlus 7T
1. Pocophone F2
Tumblr media
Xiaomi made headlines last year with the announcement of the Pocophone F1. The reason why was that the phone offered fantastic value for money. Starting at just 330 euros (~$370), it featured the Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM, a massive battery, and a dual-camera setup at the back.  This year, we expect the company to release its successor — the “Pocophone F2.” Nothing about the phone has been made official yet (including the name), but we expect it to follow the same recipe that made the F1 so successful. That means offering high-end specs at a price-point that undercuts the competition by a wide margin.  The Pocophone F2 is expected to offer a fantastic price-performance ratio.  We also hope the phone will come with NFC, a better design, and a few other things you can check out in our Pocophone F2 wishlist post.  The main problem is Xiaomi itself since it released the Redmi K20 Pro. The phone turned out to be the cheap Snapdragon 855 device Xiaomi fans have been waiting for. We don’t know where this leaves the Pocophone F2, but here’s hoping it’ll be a tweaked version for the global market.  Launch ETA: Sometime in 2019
LG G8X
Tumblr media
What we thought was the next LG V-series smartphone might turn out to be the rumored LG G8Xinstead.  Tipped to be a revamp of the lukewarm LG G8, the G8X reportedly features a dual rear camera setup, waterdrop notch, headphone jack, and an extra hardware button. Expected features include wireless charging, quad DAC audio, and some level of water and dust resistance.  We don’t see a rear or front fingerprint sensor, which means the phone might offer an in-display fingerprint sensor. Also not seen is the G8’s Z Camera (3D ToF camera). The sensor-enabled features like 3D face unlock, hand ID, and advanced gesture controls. That said, we don’t know if many people will notice or care — our own Eric Zeman though hand ID and gesture controls were “slow and unreliable” in his G8 review.  LG didn’t confirm or deny the G8X’s existence but hinted there are some truths to the leaks. LG will hold an event during IFA 2019 in Germany, so we should learn more then.  Launch date: September
3. Google Pixel 4 series
Tumblr media
The Google Pixel 4 series, which will likely consist of the Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL, is expected to make its debut in October. As we’re still months away from their release, Google hasn’t revealed much information. However, it has confirmed the phones exist and even showed off the rear design and camera after tweeting out an official picture in response to leaks and renders.  Google also confirmed two Pixel 4 features: Motion Sense and Face Unlock. Motion Sense uses the phone’s onboard Soli motion-sensing radar to enable hand gestures. That means you can wave your hand across the front of the Pixel 4 to skip songs, snooze alarms, and silence incoming calls, with additional functions arriving later.  Face Unlock also uses Soli, this time to turn on the Pixel 4’s face unlock sensors. Combined with software algorithms, the Pixel 4 supposedly opens as soon as you pick it up. Face Unlock works in almost any orientation and can also be used to authenticate payments and apps.  Thanks to a massive spec dump, we have a better idea of what to expect with the Pixel 4 on paper. Whereas the Pixel 4 reportedly features a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display, the Pixel 4 XL reportedly sports a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ display. Both AMOLED displays will have a 90Hz refresh rate, according to leaks.  Other rumored specs include a 2,800mAh battery for the Pixel 4, a 3,700mAh battery for the Pixel 4 XL, 6GB of RAM, at least 64GB of storage, the Snapdragon 855 chipset, stereo speakers, and dual rear 12MP and 16MP cameras. Finally, the Pixel 4 phones are expected to run Android Q.  Launch ETA: October
Huawei Mate 30 Pro
Tumblr media
Huawei announced the P30 Pro in March, which means the next flagship from the company to expect is the Mate 30 Pro. Huawei confirmed the Mate 30 Pro will launch in September or October.  Leaks have been few and small, but what we’ve heard so far sounds very promising. According to rumors, the Mate 30 Pro will feature a 6.71-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone will also reportedly feature the Kirin 985 processor, Balong 5000 modem for 5G connectivity, two 40MP rear cameras with a third telephoto sensor, a 4,200mAh battery, and fast wired and wireless charging.  We also expect improvements to the in-display fingerprint sensor and reverse wireless charging, along with Android Q underneath EMUI 10.  There’s a good chance the phone will feature a price bump relative to the Mate 20 Pro, with the base storage variant of the phone likely costing more than 1,000 euros (~$1,115). Then again, the company has also released a non-Pro Mate phone in recent years, so hopefully, that offers a similar core experience at a cheaper price.  Launch ETA: September or October
MotorolaRazrfoldable phone
Tumblr media
It looks like Motorola plans on bringing back the Razr series. The company is reportedly working on a foldable phone, which is expected to launch sometime this year. An exact date isn’t known, but the company said it plans to enter the market around the same time as its competitors. Samsung and Huawei have already revealed their foldable phones (although they aren’t available to buy), so Motorola can’t be far behind.  The Motorola Razr foldable phone (the name hasn’t been confirmed yet) reportedly folds vertically and features two displays. Based on a previous patent filing and firmware digging, it features a small display on the outside when closed and a larger display when opened.  Specs-wise rumors state that it will be a mid-range device sporting the Snapdragon 710 chipset, up to 6GB of RAM, and a 2,730mAh battery. It may cost as much as $1,500, but we won’t know for sure until it’s officially released. In the U.S., it may be Verizon-exclusive.  Launch ETA: Sometime in 2019
Xiaomi Mi Mix 4
Tumblr media
Xiaomi has generally launched an all-new Mi Mix device in the second half of the year, with the Mi Mix 3 launching in October 2018 and the Mi Mix 2 being unveiled in September 2017.  Aside from Xiaomi’s traditional timing, confirmation of the Mi Mix 4 reportedly came via a Weibo post from company executive Wang Teng. The now-deleted post apparently noted that the new Xiaomi phone will have a camera that’s better than Samsung’s 64MP sensor. Staying with the camera experience, a Xiaomi patent filing reveals the company is working on a periscope camera. Furthermore, the source of the news says it’s not out of the question for the tech to come to the Mi Mix series. In any event, we’re expecting the Snapdragon 855 chipset and a rather slick design (will it be a slider again?).  Launch ETA: Sometime in 2019
OnePlus 7T
Tumblr media
There haven’t been any significant rumors or leaks regarding a OnePlus 7T, but past years suggest that this could be the case. OnePlus has traditionally launched a T-series phone in the second half of the year, going all the way back to the OnePlus 3T in 2016.  This schedule might be in question after the company launched the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro back in May — bucking the trend of one phone for each half of the year. But what if the company does indeed go ahead with a T series entry in 2019?  It’s possible OnePlus will offer a OnePlus 7T and a OnePlus 7T Pro if it decides to issue new devices in the second half of the year. As for desired features, we’d love to see both variants offer camera quality on par with the likes of Samsung and Huawei, for starters.  A standard OnePlus 7T should also offer a more versatile rear camera setup, as opposed to simply adding a 5MP depth sensor. As for a OnePlus 7T Pro? We’d like to see a proper IP rating, wireless charging, and improved endurance.  Interestingly, OnePlus confirmed it’ll release a second 5G smartphone by the end of 2019. Even better, the phone will be available globally instead of in a few regions. Maybe one of the rumors 7T devices might be a global 5G phone.  Launch ETA: Sometime in late 2019
Android phones yet to be released
The handsets below have already been announced, but since they haven’t gone on sale yet we’re still including them on our list of the best upcoming Android phones.
8. Samsung Galaxy Fold
Tumblr media
Announced in February, the Galaxy Fold is Samsung’s first foldable device. It opens and closes like a book and features a 4.6-inch display on the outside and a 7.3-inch screen on the inside. The phone has six cameras on board, is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, and is 5G ready. It was initially scheduled to go on sale on April 26, but Samsung pushed back the launch date due to problems with the phone’s display.  Thankfully, Samsung seemingly resolved those issues and will re-launch the Galaxy Fold in September. However, the phone’s prospects are a bit murkier this time around — T-Mobile confirmed it will not carry the Galaxy Fold, with an AT&T launch still up in the air.
Huawei Mate X
Tumblr media
Huawei’s rival to the Galaxy Fold made its debut at MWC 2019. It features a single display that’s wrapped around the outside of the device and measures 8-inches when in tablet mode. The 5G phone is powered by the Kirin 980 chipset, sports a rear triple-camera setup, and has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.  However, Huawei has yet to pin down a launch date. The company confirmed the Mate X will launch sometime between September and November, even though a report pegged a pre-November as “unlikely.” Whenever the phone launches, the 8GB/512GB version will retail for a staggering 2,299 euros (~$2,550). The phone isn’t expected to launch in the U.S. Read the full article

These Huawei phones are getting Android-based EMUI 9.1 update
Well, you might have heard that Google has been allowed to restore Android license for Huawei, but this doesn’t mean Huawei has been taken out of the infamous Entity List. Where ever the US administration will deem Huawei’s business activities against their national security, it will restrict US companies to business with the Chinese tech giant in that specific domain.
However, in a recent development in this regard and good news for Huawei phone users, Huawei’s South African branch has recently confirmed five more devices will enjoy Android-based EMUI 9.1 update starting from July. The flagship devices of world’s second-largest phone maker that are getting the latest firmware update include Huawei P20, P20 Pro, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design and Mate RS Porsche Design.
The latest update could also be aimed at showing goodwill of Google as it fears that it may lose over 700 million users if Huawei decided to leave Android. Because Huawei has already developed its own HongMeng OS and we may see a glimpse of it.
It is worth mentioning here that EMUI 9.1 offers a multitude of new features such as the new EROFS file system, GPU Turbo 3.0 as well as AI-based camera improvements bringing the Moon mode found in the P30 line. Moreover, Huawei is giving a refined icon design and gesture controls in the EMUI 9.1. To have a look at the tentative EMUI 9.1 update schedule for selected smartphones of the company visit this link here.
It must also be noted that other than the aforementioned flagships, some mid-range Huawei phones are also likely to get EMUI 9.1 but not until next month. These devices include Huawei P30 lite, Mate 20 lite, Mate 9, P10, P10 Plus, P smart 2019, Y5 2019 and Y6 2019.
As far as the company’s business is concerned, Huawei’s 30% revenue growth in the first half is a slowdown from 39% which was in the first three months of 2019, but is slightly up from 2019, as Bloomberg said. The tech giant has so far managed to boost its revenue as it secured contracts for the fifth-generation (5G) networking components.
It is also reported by some news media outlets that the company has rewarded a number of employees for helping it to accelerate revenue despite a ban from the US. Huawei last month cut revenue expectations for the year, with its CEO and founder Ren Zhengfei saying that the company has taken a hard and unexpected hit from the US ban. But the 30% growth in revenue reveals that the tech giant is still on its way up.

The Huawei P9, its smaller counterpart the Huawei P9 lite and its even bigger sibling the Huawei P9 Plus are seriously impressive devices, with lots of power and useful features. But are you making the most of them? These are our favorite Huawei P9, P9 lite and P9 Plus tips and tricks.
Jump to section:
Customization
Other tricks
Camera and photos
Battery
Warning: not all tips and tricks are available on all three devices, plus some are only available after your device is updated to Nougat.
Customization
Enable the app drawer
With Nougat you can enable the app drawer on P9 in a few taps. Navigate to Home screen style in the Settings menu and you’re done!
Choose your language
By accessing Advanced Settings > Language > Add a language, you can set more than one system language. Setting a new language is easy: you just move your finger to the desired language and drag it on top of the list.
Customize notifications
Tapping Settings > Notifications and Status bar > Notification Manager can customize the notifications of each application installed on your P9.
Use Smart Assistance to change the interface
Huawei’s Smart Assistance is enormously clever. It enables you to change the interface to make it easier to use, so for example you can customize the navigation buttons or have a floating dock that gives you access to navigation when you need it.
There’s a one-handed UI for one-handed operation, and there’s also a bunch of motion control options. You can use Draw to summon an app by drawing its first letter; Flip to mute incoming calls, or timers and alarms; or Tilt to move icons and widgets.
There are many hidden customization options for the different versions of the P9. Below you will find the steps:
Navigation buttons: Settings > Navigation.
Home screen style: Settings > Home Screen Style.
Font Size: Settings > Display > Font size.
Brightness: Settings > Display > Brightness.
Color temperature: Settings > Display > Color temperature.
Status bar: Settings > Notifications and Status Bar > Show Operator Name and Battery Percentage.
Wallpapers and widgets: hold on a empty spot on the home screen, and select the piece you want to customize from those displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Other tricks
Activate voice commands
The P9 doesn’t just have motion control. It has voice control too. If you switch the features on you can answer or reject calls by saying “answer call” or “reject call” and you can wake up your device with your voice. You can customize the wake-up command, which is fun, and you can train the voice recognition so it’s better at understanding you.
Launch WhatsApp by drawing the letter W on the display
WhatsApp is probably one of the apps you use most often during the day. But there is a way that allows you to access it – and three other apps – quickly from your P9. Draw a ‘w’ and it will open the chat screen.
To activate this, go to: Settings > Smart Assistance > Motion Control Draw and choose which app you want for the letters c, e, me and w.
#gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Enable auto-correct to avoid mistakes
If you use the Swype keyboard, Huawei can keep you from making errors when you send messages. Open the messaging app, go to the keyboard, and long press the small gear icon in the lower left corner. From the settings menu that pops up, activate Auto Correct and you’re good to go.
Schedule the phone to automatically power on or off
Go to Settings > Smart Assistance and turn on the automatic power on/off function, then set the times you want. Shut off your phone automatically when you’re not using it, without having to worry about missing an alarm.
Use the fingerprint reader to launch apps
The fingerprint reader on the P9 is fast and accurate, but why limit it to unlocking your smartphone? You can go to Settings > Fingerprint ID and set it to take a photo, answer calls, snooze the alarm and more.
Optimize the system
The P9 has a built-in optimization system that allows you to get rid of temporary files that just take up space. Opening the app manager gives you a bunch of options. After starting an analysis automatically, tap Optimize, and it’s done in just a few seconds.
Lock apps with a PIN
You can lock a particular app with a PIN code to keep people from snooping on your Huawei device. Tap Lock app in your settings, enter your PIN and then select which apps you want to lock. Chat applications, your photo gallery app and other apps with private info don’t need to be seen or used by everyone you might hand your phone to.
Enable Wi-Fi+ for a better browsing experience
Combining Wi-Fi and mobile networks can make for a better browsing experience. In fact, you should also set your device to connect automatically to your home Wi-Fi network.
Use multi-window
This is a feature which arrived with Nougat. To activate this mode, long press the multitasking button. Select the blue bar in the middle and move it as desired, then tap the multitasking button again to close this mode.
Use two Facebook and WhatsApp accounts
Nougat and EMUI 5.0 brought us another new feature. You can now use two Facebook accounts on one Facebook app, and the same with WhatsApp. This new feature can be activated in the settings menu, just under the battery options.
Kill all apps, apart from one
We’re used to killing apps in the task switcher, but Huawei’s Emotion UI adds a useful feature: down-swipe on an app and when you hit the Kill All button, it kills everything but that app. That’s particularly useful if you’re needing all your device’s power for something demanding such as a game.
Activate eye protection mode
By removing blue light, you can read at night without straining your eyes. This mode looks yellowish, but you’ll get used to it. Your eyes will thank you.
Add your contact info to the lock screen
On the P9, like with many other devices, you can add your contact info and name to the lock screen. Go to Settings > Lock screen and password > Lock screen signature and enter your info. If your device is lost, people can use this info to contact you and return it.
One handed use mode
The P9 is easy to handle, but this mode can make it easier when you’re only able to use one hand. Go to Settings > Smart Assistance > One handed UI > View mini screen. Then just slide your finger on the navigation bar to enable it.
Glove mode
In addition to one handed mode, you can also keep your gloves on to text in the cold. Go to Settings > Smart Assistance > Glove mode. It works for most types of gloves, but may react differently depending on the fabric.
Camera and photos
Browse faster in gallery
Huawei has done a good job in the camera department for these three devices and I am sure you’ve already saved plenty of photos in your gallery. So when you look through these photos it might take some time. But you can easily browse these photos quickly with a simple gesture.
Open one of the photos saved in your folders and pinch it. The photo will shrink and then you can slide your finger along the display and browse all your photos in a snap.
Take a quick photo
If you need to take a picture right away without unlocking the smartphone, you can use the volume button. With a quick double click on the low-volume button of your device, a picture will be taken immediately. You won’t miss another perfect picture by a second again.
Best photo editing apps for Android
Take a screenshot by knocking
Taking a screenshot on Android devices is simple: grab your smartphone and simultaneously press down on the down volume and power buttons. But there’s a way that will allow you to do it even quicker: use the knuckle of your finger to knock twice in a row on the screen. Pretty easy, right?
Just make sure you enable this in your Settings then hit Smart. Select Smart screenshots and activate it. Now close the Settings and tap the screen with your knuckle.
Bokeh effect in wide aperture mode
Fancy some creamy bokeh? If you’re not a photographer you might not know the term, but you’ve seen it: it’s the effect you get with a good camera when the subject is pin-sharp but the immediate background is blurry. The P9, P9 lite and P9 Plus’s camera does a pretty good impression of bokeh in its wide aperture mode. In the camera app, go into aperture mode, tap the thing you want to focus on and then set the aperture to somewhere between f/0.95 and f/16.
Filters
For those who like to change their shots through the specific filters Huawei has implemented this feature inside the same camera software. Place the subject or scene you want to capture, and by pressing on the three circles, you will see in nine different modes, each with a different filter applied. A feature that will make you skip a step, to edit the photo on Instagram before publishing it.
Video
If you love to shoot video with your smartphone you’ll probably have already noticed that, by default, Huawei sets the resolution to 1080p FHD (16:9, stereo). But if you want to get the most for your video, and you do not have storage constraints, I suggest you set it to the maximum resolution.
Launch the Camera app, turn on video and open the dedicated settings menu with a side swipe from right to left. Now you just need to select FHD 1080p (16:9, stereo, 60 fps).
Battery
Huawei P9, P9 lite, P9 Plus tip: get longer battery life
Increase battery life
Big screens make big demands of big batteries, so if you’re finding that your P9, P9 lite or P9 Plus isn’t making it through the day you’ll need to turn to the power saving modes. In this case, decrease the brightness level of the display and access to settings menu to activate one of the energy-saving plans offered:
Energy saving mode: closes tasks on background apps, reduces sound effects and blocks the email syncing in the background. Huawei’s Smart battery function tries to reduce battery consumption without obviously affecting performance.
Ultra: recommended when the battery is almost empty, only keeps calls and messages activated, disconnects from the outside world. If you’re lost in the woods, being chased by a maniac and really need your battery to last longer, the ultra power saving mode throttles everything down for maximum longevity.
Low resolution savings: reduces the screen resolution. ROG power saving cuts the screen resolution down to 720 x 1280, which Huawei says makes a big difference to how long your battery lasts.
Close app after lock screen: closes apps in the background automatically when the screen is off.
Looking at your battery consumption data can give an idea of how much power each app installed on your P9, P9 Lite and P9 Plus uses, plus you can set a reminder to be notified when some of these reach excessive energy consumption.
Do you have any favorite features, tips or tricks that we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments.

Huawei P30 Pro Reveals A New Discount For This Phone Ahead Of Major Update
When Huawei released its flagship product called EMUI 10 later this year, the P30 PRO will receive a series of new features - before the upgrade, the Chinese technology giant has announced new discounts on its best equipment.
The P30 Pro is still one of the best Android smartphones on the market with its outstanding hardware - the phone is arguably the most powerful camera system on any device, offering commendable battery life and eye-catching design.
Huawei is making the P30 Pro more affordable than ever, and the new offer offers customers a £100 cash back at the time of purchase.
At most UK retailers that promised discounts, this effectively reduced the price of the equipment to about £799.
Here is a complete list of Huawei fans who can now take full advantage of the P30 Pro:
• Huawei P30 Pro, black, 128GB - £899.95, £100 can apply for cash back to get the deal here
• Huawei P30 Pro, breathing crystal, 128GB - £899.95, £100 can apply for cash back to get the deal here
• Huawei P30 Pro, Aurora, 128GB - £899.95, £100 can apply for cash back to get deals here
• Huawei P30 Pro, amber sunrise, 512GB - 1,099.95 pounds, £100 can apply for cash back to get the deal here
Although the P30 Pro is known for its hardware, the Huawei software it runs is also worth noting.
The P30 Pro comes pre-installed with the Huawei EMUI 9.1 skin based on the Google Android 9 Pie operating system.
In recent years, Huawei's smartphone software has grown exponentially – Mobilephone Repairer believes that EMUI 9.1 offers one of the best Android experiences due to its useful features and intuitive interface.
The new software, called EMUI 10, is based on Google's upcoming Android Q, which has a series of radical improvements over its predecessor.
1 - Exquisite Aesthetics
Huawei has provided EMUI 10 with a slogan of “Beyond Beauty”, and it is clear that the company wants to make its latest software very easy.
One of the most fundamental changes to EMUI 10 is what Huawei calls a "magazine-style layout" that attempts to provide more space in native applications for easier navigation.
During the test at Express.co.uk, it seems that this concept has led to the application content being spread out on the device's display, more than ever.
With EMUI 10, users will be able to add clock faces and pictures to their AOD - this has been on Samsung devices for some time.
Huawei also announced that it will launch an AOD market that allows fans to download designs from developers.
EMUI 10 also offers many subtle changes that, when combined, can greatly improve the skin.
2 - Dark Mode Is Better Than Before
Huawei recognized the popularity of the operating system Dark Modes in the early days - the company launched such a feature in its Mate 20 Pro phone, which launched Android 9 Pie in October 2018.
The Chinese technology company is raising its popular theme bet through EMUI 10 - the company is now making it easier for users to turn off lights in third-party applications.
Huawei said it has created a new system that automatically adjusts third-party programs to ensure they can take advantage of dark mode.
3 - Android App Has Been Waiting For The App Drawer
Android is known for its application drawers, which provide access to the user's application suite in alphabetical order.
On Google Pixel devices and other OEM smartphones, you can access this menu by swiping up on the device display from the home screen.
However, so far, Huawei's app drawer method is slightly different - the tech giant lets the user press a button on the device's home screen instead.
However, in EMUI 10, Chinese companies allow fans to summon application drawers in the way Google expects.
4 - Better Software For The Best Camera Hardware
EMUI 10 has dramatically changed the aesthetics of camera applications on Huawei devices.
The program has been awarded a simplified layout that is almost completely black and white in color with red touch.
The app makes it easier for individuals to know which mode they choose - after selecting a specific option, a large text highlighting the specific option will be displayed.
It can be said that the biggest increase in the camera app comes from the increased photo color option, which can be accessed at the top of the device.
5 - All The New Features Of Android Q
EMUI 10 is based on Android Q, so Google is expected to confirm its debut in the new operating system.
This means that Huawei fans should benefit from improved notifications and permissions that give you more control over the importance of collecting information and fine-grained gestures.
After the company’s briefing with Huawei, the company said that EMUI 10 will use Google’s gestures for its new operating system.
Huawei P30 Pro EMUI 10 Release Date
Huawei announced that EMUI 10 will release the beta version of the P30 Pro on September 8, but it is not known that the new software will arrive.
The Chinese company said its Mate 20 series will receive EMUI 10 "after".
As with all previous software releases, it is recommended that the EMUI 10 beta is not installed on the user's primary device.
