Ao invés de passar a tarde estudando, ficava escutando música e aprendendo coreografias de seus grupos favoritos. Huang Zitao, ex-membro do EXO, era sua maior inspiração.

Ao contar para o pai que não iria seguir a linhagem da família, foi praticamente expulso de casa. O homem não foi tão radical assim, mas Lian entendeu como quis. Assim que se formou no ensino médio, aplicou para diversos programas de intercâmbio e acabou indo parar na Seoul National University em 2015. O curso de dança lhe agradou ao extremo porque sabia que tinha talento de sobra e não iria desperdiçar. A relação com sua família era boa e ainda ia visitá-los na China todo ano, mas a cara de desgosto do pai toda vez que tocavam no assunto era irrevogável.

Conheceu Kim Lana nessa época porque a avó dela era sua host mom. A amizade dos dois se tornou incrivelmente duradoura e o chinês sabia que poderia contar com ela em todos os momentos que precisasse. Foi Lana quem o ajudou com seu coreano e embora até os dias atuais ele se atrapalhe com algumas palavras, já se considera fluente no idioma. Foi a amiga também que o convenceu a criar um canal de coreografias no YouTube, após vê-lo dançando no quintal da casa. Com quase meio milhão de inscritos, Zholi já era considerado um dançarino incrível e foi até convidado a participar de alguns vídeos do 1Million Dance Studio.

Em meados de 2018, aos vinte e dois, fez um teste para ser coreógrafo para uma subsidiária do Dazzling Group. Sua ideia era fazer parte da equipe de teatro, mas acabou sendo direcionado para o treinamento dos solistas na Glowing Records três anos depois. Não reclamou, afinal, era um grande sonho sendo realizado. Conheceu Daisy Jung ao ajudar um colega a coreografar um de seus comebacks e desde aquele tempo, se tornaram bem próximos. Houveram alguns rumores sobre um possível relacionamento, mas não passou disso. Quando a coreana largou a carreira de cantora, o chinês prometeu a apoiar em tudo, mesmo que de ''longe''.

Lian agora tem vinte e seis anos, é formado em dança contemporânea pela SNU e mora num apartamento em Hongdae. Evoluiu de coreógrafo no Sparkling Theater para treinador de dança na Glowing Records. O chinês estava feliz e orgulhoso de si. Mesmo que sua família não demonstrasse, também o prestigiaram todos os dias. Ter um Zhou nos holofotes não era tão ruim assim. Sendo assim, se tornou um dos coreógrafos mais requisitados no mundo da música pop coreana.
