It looks so dead inside. I don't even want to know what it's gone through. This emoji doesn't fulfill their job as something joyful, it fills me with existensial terror. Solid 3/10.

Google Noto Color Emoji

Definitely better than the Apple one, I like the fact that it has some shine in its eyes and that it has a tongue. Pretty good, I'd say 6/10.

Samsung

Still better than Apple, but worse than Google. I've never been a fan of how "sharp" Samsung emojis look if that makes sense? It still does its job though, 5/10.

Microsoft

Just a little guy. Just a joyful lad. Either that or they're on something. 10/10, it's not perfect but makes me happy.

WhatsApp

This is also deeply unsettling, even though it has the features I like. Maybe it's the shiny ass forehead? 3.5/10.

Twitter

Simple, does it's purpose, kinda feels detached from the emotion that this emoji's supposed to convey and just feels like an image. 5/10.

Facebook

What the fuck is this. Why is it an actual sphere. Why are the eyes blue. 1/10.

Microsoft Teams

This is like the GrubHub ad version of the Microsoft one. 3/10.

Skype

This is an animated one, but I only have the image version. This face that the animation ends with is okay, though I don't like the weird white eye bags it has. The face it starts with is terrifying, google it if you want to. As a whole it would be like a 1/10 but just this one is like a 4.5/10. Let's say 2.5/10 as a compromise.

Twitter Emoji Stickers

This is just so much worse than the facebook one, it's so 3D and I hate how the head isn't completely round. Actual -3/10.

It's just weird. I don't have anything else to say about it. 3/10.

I don't have a lot to say about this one, looks pretty similar to the older Microsoft one I have on my laptop. Also a 4/10.

Hard to say anything negative, but also anything positive. It's a very neutral emoji, conveys it's meaning well and isn't over the top. I actually really like this one, 6/10.

OpenMoji

It's so flat, and full of contrast, not very pleasant to look at. The eyes are also ever so slightly too small for my preference. 2/10

I have many questions that I probably don't want an answer for, including but not limited to: Why is it red? Why is the mouth shaped like that? Why is the outline so thick? Why are the teeth like that? But like aside from me being extremely nitpicky, this is a pretty solid emoji. Like a 5/10 if I'm being generous.

Messenger

Okay so even though I heavily disagree with the shade of the eyes and other little things, I weirdly like it. Even though the shape is... weird..., I think it wasn't a bad decision this time. I like how it's in a 3/4 view instead of front view, which gives it character and originality. The shading is an interesting detail, and makes this a really good emoji. A surprising 8/10.

LG

Pretty basic, the style reminds me of the really old Apple emoji style in some way. This is like a definition of a middle of the ground emoji. 5/10

HTC

I don't like it, and I don't think it should have or even deserves to have separate teeth. The yellow used in this is a nice shade overall, but doesn't really fit the vibe of emojis. 2/10.

Mozilla

Kinda similar feelings like the HTC one, as in I don't think it should have ears. The extremely washed out colours make it look displeasing, and makes me want to turn my screen brightness up. 1/10.

But according to a Wednesday report from Business Insider, about 200 of the demo stations will close after low interest from consumers.People who worked in the stations told the publication that they would often not give a demo for days at a time. An internal memo obtained by Business Insider described plans to close many demo stations, citing “store performance.” Best Buy still plans to sell the headset.The Rift is one of several high-profile consumer-oriented virtual-reality headsets released last year, but the technology is still in its early days. The headsets are bulky, and those offering the best experience, like the Rift, require a physical tether to a pricey PC. Even once you’ve got the gear, there still isn’t that much to do in VR.Sales thus far seem to reflect this. Market research firm Canalys estimates that just over two million VR headsets shipped last year (it puts the Rift in third place, with almost 400,000 headsets shipped, behind Sony’s PlayStation VR and HTC’s Vive). That’s a small number compared to video game consoles. More than six million of the current top seller, Sony’s PS4, were sold just during the holiday season.Oculus spokeswoman Andrea Schubert said that the network of demo stations contracted for “seasonal” reasons, and that the company is concentrating on offering demos at hundreds of Best Buy stores in the largest markets. She also said that Oculus is going to hold events to offer live demos of its virtual-reality technology at stores and in local communities during the year.“We still believe the best way to learn about VR is through a live demo,” she said.Several analysts who cover virtual reality say dropping many of the demo stations after the busy holiday season could make sense. Rating Clown Emojis

Apple: Right off the bat this man gets a 2/10. I HATE him. He is not cute. He looks dirty with his off-white greenish yellow skin. I can't figure out why his eyes are so wide or why he has white makeup around his eyes AND in between the blue. Very strange. And his hair is SO short :( which defeats the point of clown hair...

Samsung: VERY similar to Apple's which is a shitty choice of design to copy in this case. Sorry not sorry. He is slightly better though in that his eyes are round and make sense, the white clearly looks like sclera and the blue is the only makeup around them. His skin isn't dirty either, he actually has a nice rosy blush all around. So, although they copied a bad design, they did make him palatable. This man gets a 6/10 for being a normal clown who needs to grow his hair out.

Twitter/Discord: Another instance of a plain design but given as this is their style it is passable as an offense. His hair is blue and is the first of the bunch to not have red, so he gets style points for that. His cheeks and smile are cute. He looks very polite. There is just not much else going on for him unfortunately. Was a 6 until my friend pointed out he's asymmetrical and now I can't unsee it. It's not hard to make a flat design symmetrical! FUCK! 4/10. Fuck you twitter.

Google: Cutie! Clean design and nice makeup! Only white and red aside from his striking black eyes and toothless mouth which makes for a striking image. The new version is softer and more huggable than the old one. Honestly want to give him a kiss on his little head. Good boy, 10/10. As for the old/android version: also good but for different reasons! A little rougher around the edges, this clown has lost an eye. But he's still here to make you smile!!! A bit creepier than his little brother, but that just makes him look nervous to me. 7/10.

Facebook: Overall, looks like Chuckles the clown from Toy Story 3 but actually happy. Old version was originally preferred for its flatter image. It made the makeup more appealing and interesting in shape. New version is similar but more high quality. Almost too shaded in some areas. No real need for him to have the red lipstick around his mouth at this point bc it's so thin. New version is probably a 7/10. Still a good boy but not preferable to the cuteness and shapes of the original which I'd give a 9/10.

Microsoft: Microsoft makes some freaky looking clowns! These are just not cute boys. More like the clowns you'd see in a horror movie before they go through the traumatic event that leads them to start their murder spree. Much like Apple's and Samsung's, the hair on both of them is SO short!! What's the point of cute red clown curls if they're barely seen? New version gets a 4/10 for very lazy design. Pink lips are a strange addition and they gave him literal evil eyes. Old version gets a 5/10. Slightly better than the new one but really nothing outstanding. Just a guy. I do like his eyebrows - only one or two other emojis use eyebrows on their clowns and it makes him more expressive.

LG: Looks almost like a mix between the two Google clowns. The long-lost brother perhaps? There really isn't too much to say about him. Looks nice, if not a little awkward bc of his tiny eyes and big goofy grin. 7/10.

HTC: No idea what HTC is but I don't care. This boy is interesting and unique! Blue star makeup around his eyes, a big ol' nose and a clear definition between his makeup and skin. Nicely done. I wish they had done something more interesting with his cap- maybe even just changing the color to blue to match his eyes. Or changed the hair to blue instead. Something to break up the monotony at the top of the design. 8/10 though, he's a fun boy who knows how to entertain for sure.

Skype: This palette is very strange...why did you put an Instagram filter on my boy? His eyebrows almost blend into his skin but are just off enough to be unsettling. Like. Clearly, he dyed them that way on purpose, but why? Nothing too special otherwise. Looks almost identical to the others we have seen with red hair except he has no eye or cheek makeup whatsoever. His nose is very shiny though. 6/10.

JoyPixels: NO CLUE WHAT JOYPIXELS IS BUT THIS MAN HAS GOOD MAKEUP SKILLS!!! The points on his eyes!! The rosy cheeks! The white inside the red of his lipstick is a unique choice too! And another for the blue haired boys!! Overall, this man has his techniques and WILL beat everyone else at the skill competition. 9/10 only bc I am still not a fan of the off-white skin color.

OpenMoji: This man scares me actually. And more so than the clowns that are actually supposed to be creepy like Pennywise. This guy just fucking STARES at you. He has no soul. And the dark, thick outlines around everything make it all worse. Why aren't they around his nose and eyes????? I just don't get it. Don't think I want to. 0/10. Please get him out of my sight.

Emojidex: A FUN GUY!!!! I will invite him to every party. The dark outlines work better here bc it is only around his head and hair. Only the second clown here to have defined teeth too, except his is a fully closed grin. And he has some very pearly whites! A little heavy on the eye makeup, covering the black strikes with a yellow star and blue circle but not too annoying that it takes over the good things about him. He gets an 8/10!

Emojipedia: Last one! And unfortunately, it's not ending on a good note. This could have gone so well? Like I see where they wanted to go...but they took all the bad things from Apple's design and mixed it with the blue haired gang to make this moldy purple monstrosity. If we assume Shaw still had his 80s level of power, he would have to stop manufacturing sentinels and every political ally would know he's a mutant (altering his public image). That's a lot of global power going down the drain in exchange for his involvement in the drug trading for Krakoa. It may give him money, but the extent to which he can do is limited by the council. His role on the council is pointless, he …

(Part 2) … gets told to shut up and is ignored/sidelined in council meetings, might as well be a brick wall. He definitely doesn’t have enough control in the HTC with Emma and Kitty totally against him. His amoral ways of killing to get what he wants is against the official law, ofc he can be discreet but we know he will get caught for killing Kitty. Onto resurrection, he may be satisfied with immortality however he will always have to act in accordance to Krakoa … (Part 3) … and can’t exploit people. He only brought back Shinobi as a pawn to have on his side, because he can’t control the way the HTC works and Charles is more willing to accept Emma’s point of view. It seems like a possible solution would be if he just leaves the HTC and still remain on Krakoa so he can focus on his company and enjoy the benefits of the portals and immortality. If he stays on with the HTC, it’s partly incompatible with his libertarian views … (Part 4) … so it’s either freedom or more power under a governed rule. But I don’t think Charles can allow that, from what he said to Mystique about everyone having a responsibility on Krakoa and there isn’t a substitute for Shaw. On the other hand, rejecting Krakoa has a big opportunity cost and he would have to stop manufacturing sentinels anyway if every mutant would be on the island. The alternatives aren’t any better but for now I’m just … (Part 5) … focusing on the cons of Krakoa for him. Unlike every other evil mutant who seems satisfied (Selene may be an anomaly), Shaw doesn’t fit in. Overall, Krakoa seems more restricting to him than his situation before and I don’t know why a fictional character has taken up so much of my thinking time. I think it’s great you think this much about your fave and what makes sense for them, in particular since he’s a fave that I share and it’s not like I find many other people who do. I certainly wish even ONE writer thought this much about his personality, philosophy, and motivations! I don’t really have any lengthy thoughts to add, I just basically agree with you. I’ve kinda had the same thought for awhile, that Shaw is risking/sacrificing a whole lot in order to be part of Krakoa, for what’s really not much gain in return at all, and I’m not sure how likely that really is for someone like him. My in-universe explanation is that, much like he only brought Shinobi back as a pawn, he himself was only brought back by Xavier and Magneto because they needed him for his black market connections. So it behooves him to obey and play that part for them, because if he refuses, they have NO REASON to bring him back once more should he get killed again...and given that Emma, who killed him in the first place, would probably be happy to do it again and could very likely get away with it, then yeah, he might see this as a survival thing, and is just going to make the best of it (and get Emma out of the way so she’s no longer a threat). Like, yeah, okay, I *HAVE* to do it, but in typical Shaw fashion I’m going to damn well make the most of it. I imagine his selection for being on the Council was his economic know-how. I mean, he immediately brings up very practical concerns like currency, taxes, property...and immediately gets shut down, as you said, and never participates in anything again as of yet...but everything he said *was* stuff that people should actually be thinking about if they’re going to have a country, and also not stuff I think anyone else on the Council would have considered, since everyone else there was always all about ideals more than anything (except Emma, but she’s in the “ideals” camp now for sure) They’re all people who are thinking about the Utopian vision, Shaw’s thinking about practical and necessary shit, and I think that’s why he’s there, even if they all dump on him for it. That said, that’s all just my theories for in-universe, that’s just ME trying to find a way to make it all fit despite the VERY good points you make (which I agree with). On a meta level...on a meta level I don’t think Hickman or anyone else thought that hard. I think he’s there for the same reason that, say, Exodus is there---Hickman thought it would be cool if a bunch of prominent or semi-prominent former villains made up like half the Council, and Shaw made the cut as a former Big Bad. Beyond that, he is (also much like Exodus) basically window dressing who might as well not be there at all. He’s not there because it’s in-character, he’s there because Hickman wants him there. Likewise, he’s not part of the HTC for any greater reason than Duggan wants him there. If Shaw actually did what was most sensible and likely for him, he’d just drop out of the story because he wouldn’t be involved with any of the storyline stuff, and since the writers want him in it---even just as a background image at Council Meetings---he’s not going to do that. I just kind of accept it, and instead focus on if he’s at least being written in a way that I enjoy and find accurate, rather than questioning “why is he even here, why is he even doing this???” since, like you, I just find myself bogged down with reasons why he WOULDN’T be. Which, by the way, you did a really beautiful job going through and laying out, and I enjoyed reading it! It was like you took bits of what I’d been kind of feeling and then you fleshed them out really articulately. My reading comprehension is admittedly not the greatest right now (sads gives me a fuzzy brain) but everything you said reads correctly to me, and ultimately the only thing I can really say is that “yeah, you right tho” So like I’ve got my answers that I use it to make sense for me in-universe, but you are correct and I’ve actually been hoping he would say SOMETHING to this effect at one point or another, like give some IC reason he personally finds this to be worthwhile or worth the risk, or why he doesn’t just wash his hands of all this and go back to doing the shit that actually made him money WHICH IS WHAT HE CARES ABOUT, what is stopping him, etc. But he doesn’t, so I just kinda accept it and hope he at least doesn’t get written terribly in whatever latest thing he’s in.
