a/n: the cliffhanger kept bugging me so i had to write this. It's shit but now I can finally rest in peace lmao hahaah and thank god i found the perfect song which inspired this one, as u can tell its somewhere only we know by keane :')
'Do you Naoya Zenin, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?'
'I do', Naoya said with a smug face.
The officiant turned to you, 'Do you Y/N L/N, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to live together in matrimony, to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?'
Love? Comfort? Honor? It's funny. In an arranged marriage between clans of sorcerers, this never happens. These are just words, merely words that don't hold any meaning, words that aren't true, words that are merely decorative facades to the truth behind such marriages. It disgusted you. It made you sick. Must you respond to such a repugnant question? Must you agree to such a repulsive vow? Must you marry Naoya Zenin? This was the first day you even met the man. His eyes were dark, filled with malice not the honey colored ones that speaks tenderness, his smile, his grins, the smirk of a loathsome man, not the ones that were gentle and kind. But he's the one you're marrying today. This is your fate and there seems to be no escape. You tried but it seems the universe was against you. So you had no choice but to take it all in.
'I do', you succumbed.
'I now pronounce you husband and wife', the officiant declared and the crowd cheered. Today, the Zenin and L/N clan has been united. With this union, a powerful force between two jujutsu sorcerer family has been established.
'It's what's best for the family', your mother told you before the wedding. And this day is the sole reason for your existence. As a daughter of the L/N family you were raised to be married off to another powerful family and today it has been fulfilled.
While you walk down the aisle with your husband beside you, the submission to a life you never wanted has finally happened.
—
Nanami felt a little dizzy from suddenly being teleported by Gojo. He was trying to regain his strength when he heard the blue eyed sorcerer click his tongue and cursed, 'Shit'.
Nanami's attention then slowly shifted to the sound of the opening door of the wedding hall. And there you were, clad in the most elegant kimono, you looked like a painting, an ethereal beauty. And beside you was a man he knew who came from the prominent Zenin family, the next clan head, Naoya. Nanami's eyes grew in shock, he was too late. And while he was staring at you filled with overwhelming regret, you noticed him and looked in his direction which caused you to stop walking. Naoya noticed this and looked in the direction you were looking.
'Oh, I did not think Gojo Satoru himself would greet us personally Mrs. Zenin', he smirked, 'why don't we go ahead over there?' Naoya then led you to where Gojo and Nanami was.
'Fancy seeing you here Gojo Satoru', Naoya spoke arrogantly.
'I came here for my friend...and to wish her all the happiness in the world', Gojo responded, who then proceeded to take your hand and kiss the back of it.
'Hmm, I see, who else do we have here? Ah, if it isn't for the legendary black flash during the night of the hundred demon parade, himself', Naoya eyed Nanami suspiciously.
'I..I', Nanami stuttered which was unusual 'Congratulations Y/N', he bowed in respect.
Ever the most formal, Nanami's actions made you smile. You then extended your hand to which he reciprocated.
'It was enchanting to meet you', you looked at him one last time, trying your hardest not to cry and beg him to take you away.
'Let's go now sweetheart, we have other guests to greet', Naoya interrupted your moment. And just like that Naoya Zenin whisked you away from Nanami.
'What the hell were you stuttering for Nanami?!', Gojo scolded him.
'We're too late Gojo', Nanami sighed, 'thanks for everything', he patted his shoulder and left.
'Oi! Nanami', Gojo shouted. 'Are you just gonna leave like that?!'
'There's nothing else I can do', he looked back at him.
'You're gonna regret this', Gojo told him.
'What's another addition to my never-ending list of regrets Gojo?'
'Nanami', Gojo tried to console his friend but Nanami turned around and went away.
—
You did not expect to see Gojo and Nanami earlier today. You were surprised to actually see them. Could you blame yourself if you thought they were there to come and get you? A foolish fantasy it was. It seems that they really only came to congratulate you. And that would probably be the last time you're gonna see Nanami, the last time you're gonna feel his touch.
'You're better off without me and I'm better off without you', you remembered his words vividly. And probably he was right, you were born in such a complicated family, in a complicated world, it was probably best that Nanami did not reciprocated your feelings. But when Naoya touched you tonight, you can't help but think of Nanami. Would Nanami be this rough? No, he wouldn't, he would be gentle and sweet and loving. But Nanami's not the one inside you tonight, Nanami's not the one harshly exploring every inch of your purity tonight, no, it's Naoya. And Naoya is the man you married and you're gonna be stuck with him for the rest of your life. You can only let the tears from your eyes fall as you think of the wicked life destiny has given you.
—
The cherry blossoms bloomed beautifully this year. Its petals danced gracefully with the wind as the breeze gently caressed Nanami's face and he remembered you. He remembered the first time you met was under the Sakura tree, he remembered the picnic you set up for him with all his favorite dishes, he remembered your sparkling e/c eyes, your sweet laugh and your warm smile. He remembered you, he remembered it all. It's been two years since you got married but no matter what he does, in every little thing, he sees you, he misses you, he longs for you, he regrets losing you. But there was nothing he could do but live in remorse for the rest of his life. If only he told you how he really felt, if only he was brave enough to grab your hand and escape on your wedding day, if only… That's the only thing he can do now, to think of the 'what ifs'. And while he was filled with thoughts of his regrets he heard Yuji's voice calling him.
'Nanamin!', Yuji waved and ran to him, 'Staring into space again?', he asked curiously.
'What is it Yuji?', Nanami fixed his glasses.
'Principal Yaga called for you'
'I see, I'll be there'.
'Copy, boss', Nanami cheerfully saluted.
If it wasn't for Yuji and the other students from Jujutsu High, Nanami doesn't know how he'd spending his days wallowing in self-loathing. Thankfully, they were there to keep his mind off you. But it seems that Nanami can never really escape you.
—
'Nanami, there's a mission that specifically requested for you', Principal Yaga announced.
'Tell me the details', Nanami sat in front of the principal.
'The high-ranked officials of the Zenin clan will be away for months, including their head, Naoya, leaving their household vulnerable.'
'And?'
'Well, Naoya himself drew up this request, saying that he was very impressed with your performance during the night of hundred demons parade, he trusts you to personally stay in his household and escort his wife, Mrs. Y/N Zenin'
Nanami was surprised to hear your name.
'You know how it is with these clans. Women are apparently not included in their meetings so Y/N is left behind and apparently, there have been rumors that she's been sick so even if she's an experienced sorcerer herself she's not in shape to look out for the household', Principal Yaga explained.
'I see, when do I go?', Nanami did not hesitate to accept the request. It's selfish of him but he really wanted to see you. He wants to know how you've been doing. And he wants to see your smile, hear your voice, he wants to be with you, even just for a little while.
—
What Nanami didn't know was that he was greeted with a Y/N he didn't know. What were once eyes filled with life and wonder was now filled with emptiness. What once were lips who smiled graciously and laughed generously now spoke lifelessly.
'We're under your care Mr. Nanami Kento', you bowed formally as if you've never seen this man before.
'It's good to see you again Y/N', Nanami tried to lighten the atmosphere but you bowed at him one more time and left, heading straight to your room.
Nanami barely sees you, you rarely go outside your own room. It was like you shut yourself from the outside world and became a willing victim to your own prison. Maids would just leave foods outside your door, sometimes you accepted them but most of the time you sent them away. Nanami grew more concerned as the days went by. He was meant to look out for the whole household but most of the time he only stationed himself out of your door trying to get an opportunity to talk to you.
One fine early morning, when the sun was still too shy to come out and when everyone was still asleep, you decided to go for a walk. You hated being seen hence you prefer to lock yourself inside. It's been a long time since you breathed fresh air, but it was still suffocating nonetheless. You suddenly had trouble breathing and your vision was getting blurry. You were about to fall when you felt somebody catch you.
'Y/N?! Are you okay? Y/N, can you hear me?', a familiar voice called for you. A soothing sound you've always wanted to hear again. You have almost forgotten the face this voice belongs to.
—
Nanami was panicking outside your door while the maids tended to you inside. You have become so frail, so fragile and what made Nanami worried, no, angry even was when he saw bruises on your skin. They were perfectly covered with your long kimono during the first time he arrived in your house but when he carried you this morning, those bruises became visible. What is Naoya doing to you? How could he? Nanami was clenching his fists thinking what he would do to your husband when he sees him when the maids went out of your quarter.
'H-how is she?', Nanami asked worriedly.
'She's fine Mr. Nanami, this happens very often', your maid replied.
'Very often? Then what about the doctor? Is she sick? Why won't you call a doctor?', Nanami raised his voice.
'I'm sorry sir, there's nothing else I'm allowed to tell you', the maid bowed and was about to leave.
This annoyed Nanami so much that even if he wasn't allowed to, he stormed your quarters to which the maid shocked in horror.
'No sir! You mustn't', your maid tried to pull him away.
'I-it's fine, Kurumi, let him stay', you mustered all your strength to sat up and tell your maid.
'But madame-', your maid protested.
'Please? This is the only request I ask of you', you pleaded her.
Upon seeing the look in your eyes, your maid understood and left you two and Nanami alone.
'What is happening Y/N? Why are you - what's with all the bruises? Is he hurting you?', Nanami was troubled and very distressed.
'It's good to see you again Kento', you smiled weakly at him.
Kento, this was the first time Nanami heard you call his name again. This was the first time Nanami has seen you smile again.
'You were never meant to see these bruises', you explained as you tried to cover them.
'Tell me Y/N, did Naoya do those to you?', he asked.
'And what will happen if I tell you Kento?'
'I-I…'
'It would probably be best if we don't speak of it again, ok?', you requested him.
'I-I understand. Just tell me if there's anything I can do', Nanami gave in, he doesn't want to make you uncomfortable, he just wants you to feel safe around him.
'Then, for starters, can you buy me the first chocolate cake I've tasted from the bakery you brought me when we first met?', you looked at him with doe eyes.
Upon hearing your request, Nanami couldn't help but smile, 'Certainly, I'll get them right away'.
Nanami immediately came back as soon as he bought the cake. Oh the light that filled your eyes once you saw it. It was the eyes of the Y/N Nanami knew. And he looked at you lovingly as you gobbled up the cake. He was glad you're eating again. He was glad seeing you so happy while eating the cake. And he would do anything to keep you smiling.
The next few days he started bringing you the foods that became your favorite back when you were working with him and Nanami was filled with relief of how your appetite came back as soon as he started bringing you foods. He also decided to cook for you, replacing the traditional meals your maid brought you with dishes cooked in garlic oil which was his favorite and eventually became yours too.
'Oh, Kento this is heavenly', you giggled as you took one bite. 'Thank you Kento', you smiled tenderly at him. And Nanami was glad. You were back, the Y/N he knew was back and he swore he would do anything to keep you smiling again.
One night Nanami found you sitting outside the balcony, staring into the sky.
'Y/N, it's cold, what are you doing here?', Nanami said while covering you with his coat.
'You're always the gentleman Kento', you teased him. 'I know you would never hurt anyone'
Your sudden change of tone worried Nanami, 'Y/N'
'Naoya, he-, it's been two years but I still wasn't able to conceive a child. He hates me for it'
Nanami's insides were churning with anger. 'I-is that why he hurts you?'
You tried to smile through the pain. 'Well, that and many other things. You know, the Zenin family isn't really known for being matriarchal', you tried to joke.
'Y/N, come with me', Nanami looked at you earnestly. 'Leave this place Y/N.'
'Kento, wha-
'I should've done this a long time ago. The night you confessed to me I should have said what I really wanted to say. On your wedding, I should've grabbed you and whisked you away, I should've - I'm sorry for being weak Y/N, I'm sorry for being such a coward, I'm sorry', Nanami sobbed and it surprised you, you've never seen Nanami teary eyed before.
'Kento', you caressed his cheeks.
'I love you Y/N, I love you so much. I love the way you laugh, the way you cry, the way you pout, the way you whine, the way you get angry, the way you tease me. You're the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. I can't lose you again, I love you Y/N', Nanami confessed.
How you longed to hear those words. What you'd give to hear Nanami say that he loves you. And you couldn't believe it. This is now your chance to be free. This is now your chance to finally be with the person you truly love.
'I never stopped loving you Kento. Please, take me away', he wiped your tears and tenderly kissed you. And it warmed your heart, because this was the first time you felt such a gentle kiss.
Right when you were about to escape, your name was called by a familiar voice.
'Madame Y/N?', your maid called you.
You never really expected escaping the Zenin household would be easy.
'Kurumi, I-
'Please let us leave peacefully or else I won't have a choice but to render you unconscious', Nanami stepped in.
'No, madame. I only came here to bring you this, it's very cold tonight', your maid handed you the scarf.
'Kurumi, t-thank you', you pulled your maid into a hug.
'Please live happily madame', she rubbed your back. 'Now, you must hurry or others might see.'
You smiled gently at her one last time while Nanami gave his gratitude.
Your actions tonight will surely bring about catastrophic repercussions but may they forgive you for being selfish once more. You only have limited time left, you only wish you can spend it with the one you love.
—
Eloping with Nanami has been like a dream. You've never felt so cherished, so loved. You used to wake up before feeling the heavy weight of the role you have to play as Mrs. Zenin. But now, such is not the case anymore. As soon as you open your eyes, you are greeted by feathered kisses by the man you love and him telling you how much he loves you. You couldn't ask for more.
Nanami took you somewhere away from the blinding lights of the city, away from the cruel world of jujutsu sorcerers, away from your wicked fate. It's located in the countryside, where the green is lush, where you are surrounded by the gentle hush of the wind, where it's peacefully silent. You used to hate the silence in the Zenin household, it was a deafening silence. But here with Nanami, it was a calming silence, where it is warm. Nanami stopped reporting to Jujutsu High so he can always be with you. He said he'll probably just get an employment nearby. This is nice. It was nice planning a domestic life with the man you love. But you felt bad because there was something you were not telling him. You did not tell him that a few months ago, you were diagnosed with an illness and the doctor said that you only have a few months to live. That was why you were treated like a rotting corpse by Naoya, probably since there was no more chance of you conceiving him a child. But you couldn't tell Nanami, because you don't want him to treat you like you were dying. You wanted him to treat you normally, you wanted him to speak of his plans, of his dreams with you. You want to live the fantasy of getting a miracle of living a long life with Nanami. You could only pray every night for the gods to answer your wishes.
'I love you Kento', you told him out of the blue while you lay on his chest.
'What's with the sudden confession, love?', he brushed your hair.
'Nothing, just wanna let you know', you giggled and looked up at him, 'And thank you for bringing me here. To this place… somewhere only we know'
'I like that, a place somewhere only we know', he kissed your temple, 'stay here with me forever love, here in this place, somewhere only we know'
'I will, Kento. I will'
'I love you so much', Nanami gently brushed his knuckles against your face as he pulled you into a tender kiss.
Oh how you wish this moment could last forever.
The next evening, Nanami received a text. Upon reading it, Nanami's face grew anxious and you noticed.
'What's the matter, love?', you asked.
'Nothing', Nanami tried to deny.
'There's something wrong isn't it?', you cupped his cheeks.
'No, I-... There's an incident in Shibuya. It seems the curses have gone out of control and non-sorcerers are being transfigured and-
'Do you want to go?'
'I promised you Y/N. I promised to leave that life behind and never leave you'
'But?'
'You know me so well, my love. Would you hate me if I go?'
'You've always had a good heart my love, and that's one of the many reasons why I love you. And I could never hate you'
'Thank you my love. I'll come back as soon as possible, I promise', he then gently grabbed your waist and pulled you into a tight hug. 'I love you so much', he said while kissing the tip of your nose.
'I love you too, my love', you responded as you put your lips against his. 'Maybe you can also bring me that cake', you cutely smiled that made Nanami laugh.
Nanami went to Shibuya that night only to never return.
—
It's been four days since the Shibuya incident and Nanami still hasn't come back. You have not heard from him ever since the day he left. Was he injured? Is it bad? Is it critical? Did something terrible happen? What if? No, it cannot be. No, you should stop thinking about the worst things. But you can't help but feel more restless as the hours go by. There was only one way to know.
You never would've wanted to leave the haven Nanami gave you but you want to know what happened to Nanami or else you're gonna lose your mind.
You never thought you'd enter the Jujutsu High once more, it was as silent as ever. While walking inside, you noticed the sakura tree where you first saw Nanami. The place where you were first enchanted to meet him. The cherry blossoms were beautifully blooming today, as if to remind you of the love you've found.
You hurriedly went to the building, trying hard not to be seen by others. But no one can really escape the bearer of the six-eyes.
'Y/N', you heard a familiar voice called.
'Gojo… I- please you did not see me here', you hurriedly tried to walk away.
'It's fine Y/N, I'm aware of your situation. Nanami told me the night you eloped'
'Kento, Gojo. Where is Kento? I have not heard from him ever since he left for Shibuya', you frantically asked Gojo about Nanami's whereabouts.
'Y/N, Nanami, he, he's… just come with me', Gojo's eyes looked like there was something so painful that he couldn't tell you and when you noticed it, the heaviness in your heart worsened.
Each step towards where Gojo was leading you felt excruciating. The ignorance of what awaits you gnaws at you. Then Gojo finally stopped and opened the door.
'Y/N, I, I'm sorry'
And there you saw a body covered in a white blanket. You slowly went inside and unveiled the covers. Your heart dropped, your heart sank. It was shattered, broken in pieces. You screamed and wailed, seeing the person you love the most lying here, lifeless is a pain you can not explain. It was like you lost all the reason to live.
'Kento, you promised me', you sobbed. 'You said you'd come back', you laid your head upon his chest, dampening his cold skin. 'Why? Why did you leave me', you were weeping uncontrollably, hardly being able to breathe.
'Y/N, breathe Y/N', Gojo tried to rub your back for comfort.
'I don't want to, Gojo', you broke down. 'Let me be with Kento please', you bawled as you buried your face on the crook of Nanami's pale neck.
And you never left Nanami's side, minutes turned to hours, hours turned to day and by the time Gojo came back the next day, he found you beside Nanami, still embracing him. It was silent, did you fall asleep? Gojo wondered. He tried to shake you gently to wake you up but there was no response. Gojo started to panic. He tried to feel your breathing through your nose but there was none. He tried to get your pulse but there was none. Gojo hurriedly went to get Shoko to check on you.
'It seems that… she followed Kento right away Satoru', Shoko told Gojo after checking your pulse.
'What are you talking about Shoko?'
'Her heartbeat stopped when she lost him. I've never seen a love as strong as theirs Satoru. Let's only hope they'll find the happiness and peace they deserve in the afterlife.'
A tear fell from Gojo's eyes after hearing what Shoko had to say. All this time he's been rooting for both you and Nanami, he did not expect it would end this way.
'So, I heard my unfaithful wife was here', a voice interrupted Gojo's mourning.
'Naoya', he looked at him with contempt.
'Oh? What's this she died too?', Naoya sounded amused which irked Gojo.
'Leave them both alone Naoya', Gojo gripped strongly on Naoya's shoulders. 'Let them go in peace to a place… somewhere only they know.'
