Florida, SB 254, total HRT ban for adults: 5/25/2023 update
FLORIDA HRT CRISIS DAY 8
Note that in the span of two days, we have had to revise this policy map from including one last way (green) for adults in Florida to get refills (no new prescriptions) from an MD/DO, to removing the one last green endpoint, and replacing it with red/yellow stripe. It actually is unknown whether even refills can be prescribed by MDs/DOs; and because of that unknown, MDs and DOs are choosing not to provide refills either.
There are now NO ways for trans adults in Florida to even obtain refills of their established HRT prescriptions.
This is based on the reports we're receiving of trans people's current experiences attempting to fill their established prescriptions since 5/17/2023 - in a complete vacuum of any information for patients who just lost access to their medication, whether from state agencies or even from the state LGBT organizations that were supposed to protect us from exactly this happening to us.
This shouldn't come down to us alone. WE NEED YOU TO STEP UP.
TRANS ADULTS IN FLORIDA ARE NOT ABLE TO GET THEIR HRT PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED OR REFILLED ANYWHERE.
WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DO SO SINCE WEDNESDAY MAY 17
IT HAS BEEN 8 DAYS
THE CLOCK IS RUNNING
The next in-person meeting of the Boards of Medicine, to draft highly restrictive "emergency rules" further regulating adult HRT, is next week!
Florida Board of Medicine/Board of Osteopathic Medicine Joint Rules/Legislative Committee
THURSDAY, JUNE 1 - 2:45 PM The Westshore Grand 4860 West Kennedy Boulevard Tampa, FL 33609
And by the way? DESANTIS HIRED THE FLORIDA HATE GROUP THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR A LAW FIRM'S $15,000 HIT JOB ON WPATH SOC
DESANTIS APPOINTEES ON THE BOARDS OF MEDICINE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROMOTING CONVERSION THERAPY AND INVOLUNTARY PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALIZATION OF TRANS PEOPLE
The Florida GOP and the DeSantis administration are directly responsible for a crime in progress against thousands of transgender Floridians!
GIVE US BACK OUR PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS NOW

thank fuck that even though I live in Florida I live in Tampa. Thank fuck I'm 5 minutes away from the lgbt+ clinic that prescribes my hrt. Thank fuck that I'm in a community that has put in the time and money to ensure that every time I drive to and from work I see a pro-Palestine billboard, urging everyone to protect those innocent children. Thank fuck I live a 10 minute drive from exit 1 to our historic gay district. Thank fuck I got to watch a pride parade march down 7th Avenue assuring me that yeah, everyone else here actually also thinks our government sucks ass. Mobs of parents and librarians and communities organizers insisting that we will say gay. That we will keep fighting against the pricks who are abusing their power to try and force us back in the closet. Thank fuck.

NHL Queer AU: Pat Maroon
Pat is a trans man and bisexual
He only uses he/him pronouns, partially because he/they doesn't sit well with him but also due to the fact he isn't openly trans
Pat is stealth — he transitioned at a young age thanks to his parents. He started hrt in his early teens and bottom surgery at 18.
His parents weren't actually supportive at first, only humoring Patrick because they thought he'd grow out of it. They changed their mind after they saw the night and day change in his personality. He had been lethargic and distant, and he became much more energetic and involved in life after they let him cut his hair and called him Pat.
Most of Pat's youth hockey was spent coming into the locker room already dressed and leaving immediately after the game. The backseat of his parents' car still smells like sweaty hockey player.
He got slotted for bottom surgery a few days after his 18th birthday. Getting bottom surgery ended a lot of the fears Pat used to have about getting clocked, and he worried about that a lot.
He got phalloplasty because he wanted to look as realistic as possible, but wishes he'd gone for metoidioplasty instead because he had decent bottom growth and regrets giving up his reproductive system, now unable to have the child he already knew he wanted.
He was initially worried about getting clocked in the Phantoms locker room, but no one even questioned him, so Pat eventually relaxed. By the time he played for Edmonton, being clocked stopped passing his mind because it never happened.
The only ones aware are his immediate family.
While Pat had gotten HRT the legal way as a youth, after botton surgery and his gender mark change, Pat realized the NHL might catch on if he continued getting HRT legally. He ended his prescription and started DIY HRT.
Growing up, Pat had a lot of dysphoria. For the most part, bottom surgery and testosterone fixed that, as his biggest problems were bottom dysphoria and lacking facial hair. One of the only sources of dysphoria left is his jawline, so he keeps his beard pretty long most of the time to hide that. It doesn't bother him much anymore, though, and he only thinks about it on days he already feels bad.
He has a box of memorabilia from pre-transition. Initially he resented everything about his assigned gender, but the older he got, the more he wanted to look back and see how far he's come.
It's just called The Box and it is possibly the most uncomfortably dangerous item he owns.
The Box is filled with things like his childhood toys, one of his old dresses, a shadow box filled with his first testosterone vials, and other such things. It's remarkably suspicious, and sometimes Pat thinks he should probably just leave it with his parents, but the times he usually wants to look are usually after home games that went well.
The Box is also currently the only source of anxiety in Pat's life because ever since Corey Perry came to Tampa, Corey has managed to touch and/or pick up The Box no matter where Pat puts it
He's had to move the location of The Box 23 times this season. It's getting old
Pat promised himself he'd tell the world he's trans if he won the Stanley Cup so he didn't have to live in fear
He didn't
And now he's won it three times so he's broken this promise to himself three times
But life is so much more fun being stealth. Everyone treats him like just one of the guys. How is he meant to give that up?
He'll definitely tell the world if he wins one more. For sure. He swears. This time for sure.
He knows he's lying to himself, though. The only way he's coming out to anyone is under intense pressure and he knows it
#queer nhl au#pat maroon#rpf au#the reason for all of Pat's poor decisions in this is literally just that Pat is the dumbest man I ever saw

Sunshine and Lolipops
I sincerely wish that this blogairy had a more positive tone. Especially lately.
I wish it was filled more often with uplifting stories of fun and good times. Of sharing pictures and feelings about beautiful places, wonderful people and special events.
I truly do.
Unfortunately, that's not the way things are most of the time right now.
Sure, I could only choose to write about the positives but that would be disingenuous if that's not what I'm actually feeling.
And being open and honest is the most important part of this blogairy.
So if negative is what my mindset is at the time, then that's what I will share.
If it's positive then I will share that as well.
What happened today was an example of a wonderfully positive experience.
It was totally unexpected and deeply effected me. For all the right reasons.
I hope I can do the situation justice...
It was a busy day at work and I wasn't scheduled to train any new Castmembers.
This meant that I would be performing the regular day in, day out duties that I usually teach others, myself.
My least favorite thing to do.
I had just returned from my lunch break and was on my way through the restaurant to attend a quick meeting.
Suddenly a tall teenage woman was standing in front of me and asked me by name if she could talk to me.
It caught me by surprise.
Both in the fact that a guest had requested to speak with me, but also that they called me by name.
I smiled and said "Sure. How can I assist you today?" My standard greeting.
I could see the guest was hesitant, bordering on shy and looked uneasy.
A soft voice said.
"I'm like you" she was almost whispering.
"Your the first person I've seen like me, and it feels so great to know I'm not alone".
I gasped.
"Your trans?" I questioned
"Yea" she replied.
She was only slightly shorter then I am. Making her about 5'11" or maybe 6' (to my 6'4")
I had to take a second look at her.
"Really?! You look fantastic!"
She tanked me and told me about how at school she knew a couple of non- binary people but no one else transgender.
She then said she was proud of me, thought it was awesome I worked at Disney and that I was an inspiration to her.
I was speechless.
I was getting a bit unsettled about discussing this in the middle of a crowded restaurant. I'm pretty sure she was too.
"Would you like to find somewhere else we can talk?" I asked her.
"Definitely!" She replied.
I lead her out to the lobby and back to a quite corner where no was within 15 feet.
I asked her how transition was going and how long she had been at it.
She was eager to share the details with me.
She had started young at age 8 and had been on HRT for 9 years already!
She was on puberty blockers and Estrogen and was so happy she found someone to talk to about it.
I asked her if she had documented her transition.
She has written poetry about it!
I was having difficulties putting sentences togather by now as I was getting overcome by emotions. I wish I could have pulled it togather and made better conversation, but I was doing all I could not to cry right then.
She continued to complement me and I tried to keep the focus on her.
We talked a little while longer and she introduced me to her sister.
It melted my heart and I was so happy and relieved knowing she had support from her family.
She thanked me again for being me and I blushed and wished her all the best.
I wanted to give her something to remember our conversation by. All I had in my pocket was a few kids stickers of Lady and the Tramp I always have with me. So that's what I gave her.
She held it to her chest and thanked me again.
I ran off to me meeting and tried to stay focused. It wasn't easy.
When the meeting was over I returned to the restaurant and another Castmembers gave me a gift she had left for me as she exited.
It was a character pin.
The character was giving a wink like two people sharing a secret do.
I lost it and starting crying. I regained a bit of composure and excused myself. I stepped out the side door of the restaurant to a place I knew would be secluded.
And let the tears wash over me.
Later as I replayed our conversation in my head I felt bad.
I had told her how to find this blogairy.
This blogairy that contains so much sorrow and pain. So much despair. So much talk of giving up on life.
I'm not sure if she will remember the very brief instructions I told her to find this, but if she does I have a message for her:
Dear V_____ from Tampa,
I want to thank you for mustering up the courage to come talk to me today.
I am honored that you feel inspired in any way by me.
You are a truly fantastic person and your words today moved me more then you could ever possibly know.
You have a terrific future ahead of you and this is only the beginning. You have great support from your loving family, an awesome sister (thank you for introducing me to N___) and a caring boyfriend. All who accept you and love you for who you are. Cherish that forever.
I wish you all the best and hope that you will always be true to yourself.
If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to message me or come visit me anytime.
Your friend Madison.
I hope she see this. Something in my gut says she will.
~Madison

Sand Key Park in Clearwater, Florida, showcases a hefty sandy beach with plenty of parking areas. It's the park that offers every amenity needed for a beautiful family outing and a multi-dollar view. I love the beach cabanas, the big bathhouses, a lovely dog park, a fantastic playground, and wonderful seasonal lifeguards. These facilities are only a few of the facilities that you can find in Sand Key Park. There are also available wheelchairs for disabled visitors, and they are easier to use on the sand and float in the water. This is free of charge. It was December 31st 2006 when I took femininizing hormones for the first time after socially transitioning since the summer. It was my freshman year in college and I was ready to truly live my life. " Elegance isn't the prerogative of those who just escaped adolescence but of those who have already taken possession of their future " Coco Chanel At 17 years old I was ready to take full control of my life. I applied my first estrogen patch and put a tablet of spironolactone under my tongue because I read online that taking hormones sublingually would minimize effects on the liver, however, I was not ready for the bitter minty taste that would ensue from letting the Spiro sit under my tongue. I pushed pass the taste, to sit in satisfaction knowing that I was finally embarking on a journey to liberate myself from my internal prison called gender dysphoria. By the time I was 17 I had been rejected by 3 doctors in search of finding someone to prescribe gender affirming hormone therapy (gaht) or what we called hormone replacement therapy (hrt) in my day. I was desperate to stop the production of testosterone in my body and usher in estrogen, the sex hormone I felt I should have had running through my veins from birth. I lived in backwoods and conservative Polk County Florida, a place that didn't have an LG Center, let alone know what transgender was. Yet, there I was hoping someone who take a chance on me so I could make my dreams come true. The last doctor, my primary care physician, said " I don't give female hormones to 16 year old boys. Maybe you can go to Tampa or Miami where they do that there " with a look of disgust , she walked out of the room with no referral to a hormone provider but was sure to drop me as her patient that day. So without access to a car to travel to Tampa or Miami, I turned to the black market for hormones. I self medicated on black market hormones for the first 5 years of my transition. Mimicking hormone regimes from Trans women who would post what they took online. Back then I wish I knew about @getplume ( who serves Trans folks in Florida) Plume has revolutionized gender affirming hormone therapy. hey i saw your post about getting HRT from planned parenthood in florida. do they have different kinds of testosterone or is it all just one brand? and how much do you have to pay for PP appointments and stuff? (i'm from the uk but moving to florida soon so i have no idea how it works lmao)
If by different kinds of t you mean if they also have topical ones (like the gel) in addition to the injections, i think they do, since they asked me if i’d rather do that since i was so nervous about the needles (I unfortunately can’t do the gel myself since it’s WAY too expensive) So i think they do offer the gel!! As for the brands of the T, i’m not sure, i didn’t ask about that. I was prescribed “testosterone cypionate”
With my insurance (Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Illinois), the appointments had a $20 copay. Since i briefly thought my insurance wasn’t going to cover it, i had looked into the prices without insurance, and i think it was around $150? But they also have ways of helping people out with the payments i believe, like payment plans and such? I’m not entirely sure since i didn’t go that route myself.
Also, my location was in North Tampa, so maybe look into the locations around the city you’ll be moving to in Florida, to make sure that there’s one that offers HRT services within a reasonable distance from where you’ll be!
Another thing to note: PP (at least the one i went to) doesn’t have an actual endocrinologist, so if you definitely want an endocrinologist to oversee this process for you, you’ll have to go to one who prescribes T (instead of doing PP)
#sorry this got kinda long-winded!!#hope this helps#lmk if you have any more questions (same for anyone else w questions)#grappler douche

While I wait for the cowards on the Florida Boards of Medicine to upload the meeting audio of their shameful silence today, here is a policy diagram explaining exactly how nearly all trans adults in Florida are no longer able to fill their HRT prescriptions:
NO OPTIONS LEFT: Florida Adult Trans Care Ban Interlocking Policies Chart by Zinnia Jones, GenderAnalysis.net — current as of 5/23/2023
START HERE
Patient age: Under 18/18 or over?
Under 18: Care not available through any provider
S.B. 254
64B8-9.019, 64B15-14.014 F.A.C.
Patients receiving treatment prior to 5/17/2023 are grandfathered
18 or over: Provider: MD/DO or NP/APRN/other?
NP/APRN: NPs, APRNs and other providers cannot prescribe HRT for adults after 5/17/2023 (S.B. 254)
MORE THAN 80% OF TRANS ADULTS IN FLORIDA RECEIVE THEIR HRT PRESCRIPTION THROUGH AN NP/APRN
Trans adults have historically been able to receive prescriptions for hormone therapy from nurse practitioners and APRNs in every state without this ever being an issue.
Trans people were able to receive HRT prescriptions from NPs and APRNs in Florida for decades, until Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
MD/DO: Date: Before 7/16/2023, or 7/17/2023 or later?
After 7/16/2023 or once emergency rules are issued: MDs/DOs can write HRT prescriptions under rules and consent forms issued by BoM/BoOM (rules unknown until day of publication) (S.B. 254)
ADULTS -MIGHT- BE ABLE TO RECEIVE NEW HRT PRESCRIPTIONS FROM MDs/DOs BY MID-JULY
The Boards contain at least one member of the anti-trans Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine (SEGM).
Two other members were appointed by Ron DeSantis after they had submitted a letter to the Boards in favor of a trans youth care ban and in favor of anti-trans conversion therapy. trans.sh/nemours
Before 7/16/2023: Prescription type: New prescription or refill of existing prescription?
New prescription: MDs/DOs cannot write new HRT prescriptions for adults until BoM/BoOM "emergency rule" state-written mandatory informed consent forms are published for use (any time before 7/16) (S.B. 254)
No trans adults seeking to start HRT can begin treatment after 5/17/2023 until these informed consent forms are available.
Trans adults in Florida have historically been able to start HRT at a time that their own provider determines is appropriate.
Existing prescription: MDs/DOs can continue to renew existing HRT prescriptions for adults
Note: This remaining sliver is the only way trans adults in Florida can access their prescribed HRT as of 5/17/2023.
TAKE ACTION NOW:
LEARN more about how Florida legislators and state agencies inflicted this injury on the trans community: by hiring conversion therapists and a recognized hate group to write state policy. trans.sh/experts

Text of thread at https://kolektiva.social/@zinnia/110418489814171631:
Yes - this is what is happening in Florida due to SB 254, which was signed into law on Tuesday 5/17/2023, taking immediate effect. This immediately cut off 80%+ of adult trans people in Florida from having their HRT refilled, because SB 254 uniquely prohibits only nurse practitioners from prescribing only gender-affirming medications.
This has already been in effect for 7 days now.
Trans adults in Florida have already been cut off from their HRT refills for a week now, including those of us who have been stable on these medications for years or decades.
This is VERY different from the general situation of trans youth care bans in 19 states, many still working their way through the courts.
This has *already* happened, to *all* of us: all trans adults in the third most populous state in the US.
The number of trans adults on HRT massively exceeds the sliver of the population that are under 18 and are prescribed puberty blockers or hormone therapy.
These laws, advanced under the pretext of 'protecting children', are now directly impacting a far larger group of people who are not children and are not subject to those pretextual concerns.
Other arguments about withholding public Medicaid funding for transition treatment also do not apply here: SB 254 does not even allow receiving this care through private insurance or paying cash out of pocket. The care isn't simply not covered - the care itself cannot be provided regardless.
What is happening in Florida requires special attention above the situation of trans youth care bans nationally. This is having a vastly larger impact quantifiably.
It will have worse impacts qualitatively as well: adults are responsible for taking care of and protecting trans kids and making sure they do not hurt themselves.
Whereas as a trans adult, we have no one standing guard at the brink but our own self and the void to which we are accountable.
These are the facts as they stand right now. These are the facts as they have stood for a WEEK and NO ONE nationally is putting any attention on this because there are 19 trans youth care bans all across the country going on, along with everything else targeting trans people and the LGBT community broadly.
This is a specific harm that is happening now and has been happening for 168 hours.
It is not a hypothetical issue to raise awareness of, as if it were at the stage of some proposal that needs to be fought back. This has already happened and is happening right now. Active harm is happening until this law is rolled back.
For all of Florida's history since the inception of the applicable regulatory and licensing bodies, nurse practitioners have been allowed to prescribe hormone therapy, testosterone blockers and other relevant gender-affirming medications.
That has been the case since I moved here in 2011. There was no reason why this wouldn't be the case. It's also the case in every other state.
This new law is a carveout of prescriptions when used for one purpose, gender-affirming care, from nurse practitioners specifically, in a way that has never been done before. It affects all ages.
It has immediately obstructed access to HRT prescription refills for more than 80% of TRANS ADULTS in Florida.
It has also prohibited first appointments for HRT via telehealth with in-state or out-of-state MDs or DOs - first appointments must be in person. This will require expensive and time-consuming travel that is beyond most trans people's means: driving to Georgia from Florida can take 8 hours.
This was an intentional targeting of almost all trans adults in Florida, and the means by which we have received our generic, FDA-approved medications for years. And it included closing every possible door that would let us find another way to keep taking the medications we have taken for...
Well, for me it was 3,891 days when the clock stopped
