Just the Way You Are - Jinx x OC
Tumblr media
Part II. Get Jinxed
“Where do you think you’re going, Topsider?”
Kasper hadn’t made it far from The Last Drop when he heard the gruff voice shouting behind him. He stopped in his tracks, hands clenched and shoulders tensed. A shuddering breath escaped him as he tried not to appear afraid.
Slowly, he turned around to face the man who had called out to him. His eyes widened as he realized the man wasn’t alone. There was a whole group with him, and Kasper instantly recognized as the ones who’d been with Finn.
“Shit,” he muttered under his breath. This was exactly what he had been trying to avoid. More loudly, he said, “Look, I don’t want any trouble.”
“That’s too bad,” the large man who’d first yelled at him said. He smacked the metal pipe he was carrying against his palm threateningly. “Because now you’re gonna it.”
Kasper’s hand drifted towards the inner pocket of his jacket. If a fight was unavoidable, he might as well be ready for it.
“If you say so,” he remarked.
He reached into his pocket, drawing the twin daggers hidden inside. They were made of glass, intricately designed and sharp enough to cut bone. Connecting them was a sturdy metal chain. Some might have found it a hinderance, but Kasper knew exactly how to use it to his advantage.
The first man lunged towards him, pipe raised to strike, as the others closed in on him. Kasper dodged out of the way, at the same time twirling the chain around his fingertips and flicking one of the daggers towards the man while spinning the second as a shield against the others.
The dagger lodged into the man’s side, and he howled in pain. Kasper pulled it free, leaving a bloody gash behind, but the man caught it in midair, gritting his golden teeth as the glass sliced into his palm. He yanked on the dagger, sending Kasper stumbling towards him with an exclamation of surprise.
The man swung his pipe down at him, smacking him across the face so hard that Kasper could taste the coppery tang blood in his mouth and hear the crack as metal met bone. He staggered back, clutching the side of his face and feeling a warm trickle spilling down from his ringing ear.
Before he had the chance to recover, an arm wrapped around his neck from behind and pressed a knife to his throat. He felt the tip cut into his skin, and he dared not make another move for fear that she would slit his throat.
“I wonder what that pretty face of yours will look like when we’re done with you,” a woman’s slithery voice hissed in his ear, strengthening her grip on him. “All the black and blue will match your suit.”
“Yeah, well, it’s a shame you’ll never get to find out,” Kasper grunted before stabbing the dagger still in his hand into the woman’s abdomen.
He twisted it in deep and was rewarded by the squelching sound of blood from behind him as the woman screamed. When he pulled out the dagger, both the once-pristine glass and his hand were covered in it.
The woman’s grip on him vanished as she collapsed to the ground, moaning as she bled out. Kasper paid her no attention as he took a step forward, dragging his second dagger back, but as he reached down to retrieve it, he felt a sharp pain strike him in the scapula from behind.
He cried out as he felt the blade sink deeper into his flesh, crumpling to his knees as stars danced in his vision. He threw up his hand, grasping for the unseen knife lodged into his back, while his other tightened on his daggers.
When he felt someone grab onto his reaching hand, he took the opportunity to spin around and jab both daggers into the neck of his assailant. The man made a gurgling noise as the blood bubbled in his throat, and he let go of Kasper to clutch at his own injury.
With a moment to spare, Kasper tore the knife from his back and tossed it aside, gritting his teeth against the shooting pain it left behind. But before he could get back up to his feet, another burly man rushed him and plunged his switchblade into Kasper’s stomach.
He grunted in shock, gripping the man’s hand as scarlet bloomed across his dress shirt around the wound. He tried to shove the man away, but he retaliated with a brass knuckle to Kasper’s face.
He heard his nose crunch at the impact, and blood began pouring from his nostrils and dripping onto his lips.
The man hit him again, this time just below his right eye. Then again, against his jaw. And again, on the side of his face, the metal biting into his cheek ruthlessly.
By then, Kasper was barely conscious, and every breath was ragged and forced. He hardly registered it when the first man pushed the one with the brass knuckles aside and smashed his pipe into his chest. He heard something crack, but he couldn’t feel it.
Several more times, the man hit him with the pipe, some of the others joining in the beating. After a while, he seemed to get bored of his method of assault and instead grabbed Kasper by his tangled golden hair and lifted him up into the air.
Kasper whimpered as his scalp sang with pain, but he could do nothing as the man slammed him against the wall of a nearby building, the back of his head slamming painfully against the concrete, and clasped his massive hand around his throat.
Desperately grasping at the man’s arm to no avail, Kasper was left to choke for air as blood continued to dribble down his chin. He could feel his airways closing, and what little he could see out of two swollen eyes was quickly fading to darkness.
“Finn warned you, kid. You don’t mess with people like us.” the man growled. He tightened his hold on Kasper’s neck, forcing more blood to shoot out from his mouth gaping. “And now that you’ve learned your lesson, it’s time for you to die.”
Kasper closed his eyes, accepting his fate. He had no air left in his lungs, and no fight left in his weakened body.
That was when an airy female voice came shouting from behind.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that, big boy.”
“What the-”
The man didn’t even have time to finish his exclamation before a shot rang out, and Kasper opened his eyes again to see a smoking bullet hole in the side of the man’s head.
His eyes rolled back into his head, and his hold on Kasper slackened as he fell back in a heap. Kasper hit the ground hard, and he yelled out as the shock from the impact reverberated through his broken and bloody body.
Grasping at his stomach wound in an attempt to slow down the bleeding, he turned his gaze to the rest of his attackers, who were looking at the lone figure now standing before them with wide, terrified eyes.
“What the fuck?” one of them murmured.
“It’s her,” another whispered. “It’s Jinx.”
“Shit,” a third cursed.
The stranger - Jinx - stepped into view, revealing a pale, lithe girl with long, blue braids trailing down her back. She wore a smile that was both pretty and dangerous, and her blue eyes flashed with not quite sane delight.
She toted a pistol in one hand, clearly handmade, which was decorated with colorful markings that Kasper couldn’t make out. She spun it around her pointer finger, then pointed it at one of the remaining attackers, who stood frozen in fear.
“Hi,” she greeted, before shooting him square in the face.
The others stared at her in shock, before one of them finally came to her senses and yelled, “What are you waiting for? Get her!”
Jinx laughed gleefully. “This’ll be fun,” she said, readying her pistol to fire again as the four assailants left came at her. There wasn’t even a hint of fear on her face.
Kasper watched in half-delirious awe as Jinx dealt with the attackers, taking them down one by one with exceptional grace and skill, the likes of which he had never seen before.
Within a matter of seconds, the four attackers were lying dead at her feet, bullet holes through each of their skulls. Jinx spun her pistol again, then blew out the smoke with delicate lips.
Then she slipped it into its holster at her hip and turned to look at Kasper. Her gaze softened slightly, and she walked over to him, bending down to meet his eyes, which had begun to flutter open and closed as he fought to stay awake.
Jinx put a hand on his forehead, her touch cool and calloused, and tilted his head up so that she could get a better look at his injuries.
She whistled. “Wow. You don’t look too good, pretty boy,” she said. His head lolled to the side, but she caught it with her other hand, keeping it upright so she could look at him. She gently knocked her palm against his head. “Hey! You still in there?”
All Kasper could muster was a faint cough, but it was enough of a response for Jinx.
“Geez, I can’t just leave you out here like this,” she said. “Silco needs you alive. And somehow, you still are. Better keep it that way.” She lifted up one of his eyelids, which had turned puffy and black, and studied his bloodshot eye with a frown. “Can you walk, Blondie? Or am I gonna have to lug you all the way home?”
Kasper moaned.
“I’ll take that as a no on the whole walking thing,” Jinx said with an sigh. She gave him an apologetic look. “Sorry about this, but it’s going to make things easier for the both of us. Trust me.”
Kasper felt the blunt force of something hitting him in the side of the head, and then everything went dark.

DĹŤtaku Island Staff OC!
——
As the person who pretty much kickstarted the Dōtaku Staff OC trend, it was pretty much my job to make my own staff oc. In light of that, here’s Kass! As always the art and Kass belong to me, while Dōtaku Island and Prof. Peach both belong to @prof-peach! (Go check out their blog it’s amazing!) More info under the cut!
——
Name: Kasper Rhinehardt (Goes by Kass)
Age: 24 yo
Gender: Non-Binary (They/He pronouns)
Height: 5’ 3”
Job: Groomer (Specializes in reptilian pokemon as well as most fire and bug-types)
Hometown: Motostoke City, Galar
General Info: Kass is a former gym trainer for the Fire-type leader Kabu, and now works on Dōtaku Island as a pokemon groomer and a staff member. Due to their experience under Kabu, they have the patience, willpower, and persistence to deal with pokemon of almost all temperaments. In their downtime they love cooking, foraging, and spending quality time with their team. Pretty much almost all of the treats that Kass gives his clients are homemade and his team are more than willing to taste test his creations. They also help teach the Fungi Foraging 101 and Foraging for Beginners workshops due to it being a hobby of theirs. Fun Fact: Kass is so lightweight that he’s been easily benched by Peach multiple times as a testament to how physically stronk she is. (They also turn red like a tomato berry at any mention of those occurrences.)
Team:
- Howl the Obstagoon: Looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll; Met on Route 3 of Galar; Is a huge crackhead™ most of the time, but otherwise is a very sweet boy; If you ever hear a scream when you’re picking up/dropping off your pokemon from/for grooming, that’s usually Kass getting soaked by Howl shaking after he just got a bath because he won’t sIT STILL!
- Kaen the Centiskorch: Looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll; Given to Kass by Kabu, and is Kass’ starter; An absolute perfect pokemon in all sense of the word; Loves to give people warm hugs and is incredibly good with little kids; His best quality is his wiggles™; Often seen either taking care and occupying smaller pokemon while others are being groomed or helping Kass with their cooking.
- Espada the Grovyle, Gargoyle Variant: Looks like a cinnamon roll, could actually kill you; Met in the forests of Dōtaku Island; The most recent addition to Kass’ team and is the most surprising member; Used to be distant and a tad violent, but due to Kass’ persistence he’s now an attention hog and loves getting scritches; Often assists Kass with grooming and is surprisingly good at helping cut and de-shed stubborn fur; He and Kaen are also Kass’ go-to when helping Peach calm down a rowdy pokemon and during the Battle contest.
- Canyon the Silicobra, Eastern Hognose Variant: Looks like they could kill you, would actually kill you; Met on Route 6 of Galar; You’d think that all of Kass’ pokemon are all of these well-behaved angels, but then there’s this petty brat; He will bite and gnaw when he doesn’t get his way, which is often (Kass is so used to it that it doesn’t work on them); His sand glands are underdeveloped, so he pretty much relies on his biting moves more than his ground-type moves; He is so dramatic that he usually throws a tantrum once a day, much to Kass and the other staff member’s amusement.
