Cursed Drabble meta post because i cant help myself sometimes
while i dont think i nailed the vibe for the tumblr reader x celebrity self-insert fan fiction (mainly because i just Could not get through a single fic without dying of cringe. im sorry i do not vibe with this genre in the slightest for reasons that are probably evident in how i wrote that fic) and its probably more wattpad / quotev fanfic tier, i think i did pull off the standard tropes for those sorts of fics
like how the self-insert is supposed to be a blank slate for anyone to, well. self-insert into, but they're always very obviously written to be (cis) women. and the author can't decide if they want their self-insert to be meek and easily smitten, or sassy and genre-aware, as well as simultaneously living the fantasy of having a glamorous lifestyle that people would be jealous of, but she's also totally just an ordinary girl you guys. see, she's got average looks!
and also the combination of fulfilling the fantasy of 'what if my dream man saved me from a scary situation like gross dudes hitting on me', and the fact that the love interest is... often not written that much better than the bad guys lmao. the 'i saw you from across the room and immediately fell in love and wanted to protect you because you are so beautiful' seems to be popular in self-insert fics from what i skimmed through, but a lot of the time the dudes always come across as creepy to me. but in this fic sharle is using french terms of endearment so clearly he is sexy and romantic and not also a weird sleaze, duh
i died the most writing every single piece of sharle's dialogue but also the descriptions talking about how hot he is, btw. the line about the reader imagining his hands choking someone and them smelling his intoxicating scent in his bedsheets both made me want to hurl LMFAO props to people who can write that shit, id rather swan dive off a cliff thanks (tho the hand focus is also due to me listening to that read-through of the foxhole court and the video essayist mentioning how often the characters in that story grabbed each other by the chin. i was just like 'ok yeah i need more hand stuff in this people eat that shit up')
the warnings at the start are there solely because when i was scrolling through the tumblr tags for reader self-inserts i saw quite a few that warned for swearing which i thought was funny since like. this is a 13+ website. you can say the fuck word here and not get in trouble. apart from the cringy dialogue i wouldnt say anything in the fic actually merits a warning, but i felt like i needed to add the other stuff to keep it true to the formatting style that is common for tumblr self-insert fic
the bit with ropikk at the end definitely breaks the illusion and probably turns the fic into some 'lol well that just happened' marvel '''humour''', but tbh i just wanted to include a 'he would not fucking say that' joke and needed to write a palate cleanse LMAO you can pretend that last paragraph doesn't exist if you dont like the immersion-breaking
anyways uh. this was a lot of words i wrote to explain my stupid drabble i wrote as a joke and because people voted for something cursed. you can't say i half-ass anything lmao

Hi! I was just watching good omens and I came up with some questions, but I didn't know whom to ask, so I was digging around for go analysis blogs and found you. *takes a breath* So, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on why Heaven's camera angles are the way they are. I noticed that, in heaven, the camera tends to focus on the characters' heads specifically, so they fill most of the screen. Either it's a meta reason or a reference to something (like Newt with the Office) that I'm not getting. That's the main thing, but I've also wondered why exactly Aziraphale uses the verb "fraternize" in the 19th century. It seemed an odd pivot from caring about Crowley's safety to Heaven's rules. Thanks so much!
Hello! Omg yes, let's talk Good Omens cinematography.
First, the obligatory Analysis Disclaimer: I doubt there's a specific interpretation that you're just not getting, some singular, "correct" reading of the scene(s). Two years past release, I'm positive the fandom as a whole has come up with plenty of ideas (I mostly hang on the periphery. I'm far from up to date with GO meta), but any and all of it will, by nature, be subjective. Thus, all I can offer is my own, personal interpretation.
So for me? It's about intimacy.
Not intimacy in the sense of friendship, but rather the broad idea of closeness. Confidentiality. Emotion. Knowledge. Understanding by means of literally getting into the thick of these conversations. I love the camerawork in Heaven (and elsewhere) because the camera itself acts like a person — an additional party to these interactions. And, since we're the ones watching this show via the camera, it makes it feel as if we're peeking into scenes that are otherwise private. Obviously all cinematography does this to a certain extent, the camera is always watching someone or something without acknowledging that we're doing the watching (outside of documentary-esque filmmaking), but GO uses angles and closeups to mimic another person observing these scenes, someone other than the characters involved.
The easiest example I can give here is when Michael makes their call to Ligur. Here, the camera is positioned up on the next landing of the staircase, as if we're sneaking a look down at this otherwise secret call. There's even a moment when the camera pans to the right to look at them through the gap in the railing, briefly obscuring Michael from our view.
Here, a standard expectation of any scene — keep your character in focus — is done away with to instead mimic the movements of someone actually hiding in the stairwell, listening in on the conversation. It creates that feeling of intimacy, as if we're really there with Michael, not just watching Michael through a screen. The camerawork acts like a person overhearing an illicit conversation prior to falling back on mid/closeup shots. We're spying on them.
To give a non-Heaven example, the camera helps us connect with Aziraphale during Gabriel's jogging scene. It's hard to show through screenshots, but if you re-watch you'll see that the camera initially keeps them both in the frame with full body shots, allowing us to compare things like Gabriel's unadorned gray workout clothes with Aziraphale's more stylish outfit; one's good jogging form and the other's awkward shuffle. However, this distance also creates the sense that we're jogging with them, we're keeping pace.
That is, until Aziraphale begins to lag. Then the camera lags too, giving them both the chance to catch up, so to speak.
Until, finally, Aziraphale has to stop completely and the camera, of course, stops with him. We're emotionally attuned to Aziraphale, not Gabriel, and the camerawork reflects that. Even more-so when we cut to a low shot of Gabriel's annoyed huff at having to stop at all, making him appear larger and more imposing. Because to Aziraphale, he is.
This work carries over into Heaven's other scenes. The closeups are pretty much a given since, whether it's Gabriel realizing Aziraphale has been "fraternizing" with Crowley (more on that below!), or Aziraphale choosing to go back to Earth, the scenes in Heaven are incredibly important to the narrative. Closeups allow the viewer to get a good read on each character's emotional state — focusing on minute facial changes as opposed to overall body language — and that fly-on-the-wall feeling is increased as we literally get an up close and personal look at these pivotal moments.
Compare a shot like this one of Gabriel to the line of angels ready for battle. We don't get closeups on any of their faces because their emotions aren't important. Yes, that's in part because they're background characters, not main characters, but a lack of emotion — their willingness to enter this war without question — is also the point of their presence in this scene. So they remain a semi-identical, nearly faceless mass that runs off into infinity down that hallway, not any individual whose inner life we get a peek at via a closeup.
I particularly like Aziraphale's conversation with the angel... general? Idk what to call this guy. He's just gonna be Mustache Angel. But, getting back on track, his scene has a lot of over the shoulder shots which, admittedly, are pretty common. From a practical perspective they're used to help the audience situate both characters in the scene — you're here, you're there, this is how you're spaced during this conversation — but it can also help emphasize that closeness between them. Keeping both characters in the shot connects them and though Aziraphale and Mustache Angel definitely aren't on the same page here, those shots help cue us in to the unwanted intimacy of this moment. They're both angels... even though Aziraphale no longer aligns himself with them. They're both soldiers in a war... but Aziraphale will not fight. This angel has a list of Aziraphale's secrets, including that he once had a flaming sword and lost it... but Aziraphale doesn't want to admit those circumstances to him. This angel wouldn't understand, even if he did. Intimacy here, connection and closeness, is something discomforting because Aziraphale can no longer embrace those similarities. They put him (and us) out of sorts, so when we get them both in frame, that connection creates tension, not relief.
And many of those over the shoulder shots are given sharp angels, or the camera is placed too close to the "off screen" party. Compare a shot like Luke and Rey to Aziraphale and Mustache Angel. Here, Luke is a clean, solid line on the left side of the screen, just enough there to cue us in to where he is in relationship to Ray, In contrast, Mustache Angel's mustache is Too Close and proves rather distracting. Rey and Luke are connecting here over being Jedi with responsibilities to uphold (or at least, Luke will acknowledge that connection later lol); Mustache Angel is forcing a connection with Aziraphale that makes everyone uncomfortable.
We are too close to him here. He feels too close to Aziraphale too. This whole conversation is upsetting and discomforting, pushing Aziraphale to finally choose which side he's on (his own with Crowley). The shots aren't meant to subtly keep the audience from getting lost and then otherwise be unobtrusive, we're supposed to be Very Aware of this angel's body and how close he's getting to the character we've come to identify with — both literally (he's leaning in) and in terms of forcing Aziraphale to finally make his choice.
When Mustache Angel marches forward and gets all up in Aziraphale's face, the camera positions itself behind Aziraphale in a way that makes it feel like we're hiding behind him, with Aziraphale taking up far more of the screen than Luke does. Like the scene with Michael or running with Gabriel, the camera often likes to mimic a "realistic" response to these events. This angry, shouty angel is getting closer, best take a step back and stay out of sight behind Aziraphale, holding his ground.
These closeups also serve as a nice contrast to the wide and longshots we get of Heaven. It's an imposing place with skyscrapers in the distance, lots of steel, immaculate floors, and endless white. It's overwhelming and it's cold. But then we cut to those mid-shots of Gabriel and Michael, telling us that they're in control of it all.
Aziraphale? Aziraphale is not in control. Not now, anyway. When he appears in Heaven we get a longshot to show off this endless void and he's just another, tiny speck in it. If he weren't flailing around — an acting move that likewise helps sell how out of his depth he is — it's unlikely you'd even notice him. Aziraphale's clothing and hair blends in perfectly with the background. He's forgettable. Easily overlooked. Someone to underestimate. And when he moves, he has to come to the camera. We don't cut to Aziraphale to establish control like we do with Gabriel. He's left to awkwardly shuffle up to Mustache Angel until he's finally come into view.
Yet when Aziraphale makes his decision, he aligns himself with the brightest, most colorful, most interesting thing in the room: Earth. Earth, with all its messy individuality, is the antithesis to Heaven's controlled uniformity and a bright blue orb hanging in the midst of all this white helps remind us of that. Aziraphale rejects becoming one of the identical soldiers and instead literally reaches out for the one thing in Heaven that doesn't fit in.
When he leaves, we get an extreme closeup for the first time. Mustache Angel is pissed and as such we not only get a good look at his face in the aftermath of Aziraphale's choice, but that extreme closeup on his mouth as he's shouting too. It's like he's shouting directly at us, the viewer who is currently cheering on Aziraphale's decision. There's a war, dammit... but we don't care. Not in the way he cares, anyway.
So there's a lot! And I could probably go on, but apparently I'm only allowed to add 10 images per post now (tumblr what the actual fuck if anyone knows a way around this please share!) and I've already had to merge a bunch of images like an animal. So let's awkwardly finish up with the duck pond scene.
...without a GIF because they apparently count as images too 🙃
Simply put, I don't think Aziraphale bringing up fraternizing is a pivot from one to the other — from caring about Crowley to caring about Heaven's rules. I mean yes, Aziraphale is lagging behind Crowley in terms of rebellion and a part of him is, at this point, absolutely concerned with how he'll come across to the higherups, but that worry doesn't stem solely from a (now very shaky) desire to obey for the sake of obeying. The thing is, Aziraphale's disobedience is, by default, also Crowley's disobedience. If they're friends and they're ever found out, they'll both get in trouble. Which, we know from the end of Season One, basically means being wiped from existence. That's horrifying! And it's a horror that threatens them both. I don't think Aziraphale cares about rules for the sake of rules; after all, he started off by giving away his sword, lying to God, is currently meeting with Crowley anyway... this angel has always ignored/bent the rules — established and implied — that don't suit him. Rather, he cares about the rules if he thinks they have a chance of being enforced. If there will be consequences for breaking and bending them. This is still about caring for Crowley (as well as saving his own, angelic skin). If they're found out, Crowley dies. And, as we the viewer learn, Heaven was indeed observing them that whole time. There was always legitimate risk attached to this relationship. Aziraphale's fear, hesitance, and at times forceful pleas to stop this stem as much from Aziraphale worrying about Crowley's safety as they do a learned instinct to obey the rules without question. He pushes to end the relationship because the relationship threatens the only thing Aziraphale cares about more than that: Crowley himself.
As for the term "fraternizing," that's a loaded one! I won't go into a whole history lesson here, but suffice to say it has military roots: to sympathize as brothers with an opponent. That is literally what Crowley and Aziraphale are doing. They are an angel and a demon, supposedly innate enemies, supposedly poised for an inevitable war... yet they've formed an incredibly strong kinship. They've both learned to love their enemy, the thing every army fears because, well, then your army won't fight (just as Aziraphale won't). However, beyond the enemy implications, "to fraternize" eventually took on a sexual meaning: to not merely love as a brother, but to lay with the enemy too, usually women from enemy countries (because, you know, heteronormativity). Nowadays, "to fraternize" often implies a sexual component. I've been rewatching The Good Wife lately and in one subplot, the State's Attorney cracks down on fraternization in his office. He doesn't mean his employees are forming bonds with assumed enemies, he means his employees are having sex on his office couch. So Aziraphale's phrasing here carries a LOT of weight. He's both reminding Crowley of their stations in the world — you are a demon, I am an angel, us meeting like this can have formal, irrevocable consequences for us both — as well as, given the fact that this is a love story, drawing attention to the depth of this relationship. They love one another, as more than just friends. Though whether Crowley's scathing "Fraternizing?" is a response to Aziraphale falling back on the technicalities of their positions, or acknowledging a love he's yet to overtly admit and commit to — or both! — is definitely up for debate.

i havent been here in a hot second is there a reason for the makoto hate specifically? like the rants go back to p5's writing issues but the spite for makoto seems very specific did she kill someones dog in one of the spinoffs or what?
You're all good. So here's the thing, she did kill my dog-I'm joking.
When I say “I’m the residential #1 Makoto Hater” it’s a joke, partially cause it probs looks that way (and probs cause it might be true, who knows if you could quantify hate then maybe I’m at the top of the leaderboards 8U but you can’t so we’ll never know). But I’m saying it at as a joke, to own myself and everyone here that knows what I think of her, rather than wear it as a badge of honor or some silliness. It’s just a “oh haha yeah there goes Silly, dunking on Makoto again! She’s basically Makoto’s #1 hater haha oh she’s so silly.” (so please don’t look too deep into it, I just want to have fun).
Anyway, me hating Makoto isn’t new, but I do hold a similar ire towards Futaba, Goro (tho I have camaraderie with his fans, I relate to their struggle in terms of my own brown hair and red eye fav and Atlus screwing them over u_u I may hate your fave but I respect you and will be in your corner), and Yukari (as well as Chloe from LiS if you want a non-Persona example). Makoto might be talked about more because 1) She hits my buttons that much faster (Futaba/Goro are more like a festering wound, and when I talk about them it’s hard to pick a starting point), 2) Her fans tendency (early on in the fandom) bringing her up frequently.....was a bad combo with #1 (overexposure+pushing all my buttons really fast=disaster). Obvie not blaming her fans, but it was hard to curate how I was able to curate my content online (esp with gaming news websites calling her “best girl” when showing off a figure announcement or some BS when I just want to know what new games have been announced >.> I can do without you trying to start a waifu war in the comments Siliconera -_-)
Anyway, I think I’ve made my reasons for hating her very clear (you just have to search her name on my blog and you’ll get a ton of essays I’m sure, too many to count). And a lot of it is the failure of P5′s writing. “So it’s just the writing you hate, not the character.” No. Because that doesn’t make sense. Except under certain circumstances (which I’ll provide examples of below with Luke Skywalker), you can’t separate the writing from the character. The character IS the writing, the writing IS the character. If you can’t hate/dislike the char because “of the writing” then you also can’t love/like them either. The character and the writing/writing choices for that character are connected. The writing embodies that character. They are the same.
Now I said there was an exception, and that’s....”different writer/director,” tho it’s not ALWAYS the case (sometimes the new writer really gets the original writing, like Saito for MM.....they are very good at emulating the clusterfuck of P5′s writing). P5′s writing is the original basis for Makoto’s character, that’s her. You can’t separate it from her. Same thing with say....Luke Skywalker from the OG trilogy, that’s him. But then we get to the sequel/Disney trilogy, new writer/director....and yeah that’s a mess (from what I understand OG trilogy=Hopeful and tries to see the best in people, 2nd Disney=Cynic and tried to kill a child, 3rd Disney=Hopeful again for some reason). There’s character development, then there’s just straight up changing the character just cause you need them to be this now.
*writes how this can apply to Persona spinoffs but deletes because I was getting too off track* Look at me exercising control. It’s probs best I save that for a meta after I’ve replayed all the spinoffs again.
But....if you want me to boil down my issues with Makoto, I hate the message we get from her. I hate the lesson we learn from her. What is supposed to happen vs what happens. It’s supposed to be about a girl who is blindly following authority and becomes disillusioned with it after being burned by it, on top of “immense pressure” she has as well, and then comes to our side (we know this because Atlus told us). We don’t get that (we know this because we saw the execution). We get two adults, yes TWO ADULTS, one of which is her sister and wants her to do well in school (but isn’t like.....a tiger mom about it, because Sae can’t be TOO horrible because we need to like her later), who in retrospect seems very busy with her job (which gives Makoto freedom), but also feels burdened by her younger sister (in which she has one shitty slip with her and then NEVER again). And the other is a dumbass principal who asks a really strange and stupid task for Makoto that snowballs into bullshit. That’s IT! THAT’S IT! That’s all we get from Makoto and “authority.” Strawmen. We don’t really get much of her personality either (I’m not saying that cause “she’s cardboard” I legit just.....don’t get her? Like I don’t get enough of her to get a solid foundation, you get me?) Like as the player, what we see of her is she’s just studying in the library (Kamo arc), then the principal calls her in, she mentions the rumors about Kamo, he asks her to look into the PT in exchange for a recommendation (to which she’s surprised and says thanks, not no, she looks like she’ll accept JUST BASED ON THAT) but before she can even say Yes (OR NO) he threatens Makoto with her sister, to which Makoto hardens and then agrees. Then she acts like an asshole and yadda yadda stuff happens.
But if she’s supposed to blindly follow authority, she’d say yes, but then they don’t let the character breathe so she can make the “wrong” choice because the Principal goes STRAIGHT to threatening her.......so now the message is muddled, or really it’s non existent. The whole Sae thing is a nothing bag too, it’s just family drama. Her sister is, no HAS to be absent a lot for her work, just so Makoto can have the freedom to be a PT....which means....it hurts her lack of freedom and other stuff associated with Sae being a big pressure on Makoto’s life. You know, I’ve said before they’ve squandered Sae, and that Makoto’s presence really harmed Sae (iirc it was this post). But at the same time, how they handled Sae really screws up Makoto’s character. Neither are allowed to breathe. Neither are allowed to make a true, horrible choice...and then learn from it. They aren’t allowed to have an actual arc. Altus played it safe, took choice away from them, didn’t want to take risks with either character and have meaning. Instead we just have this nothing contradiction thing dicking around until they join our team.
What really sucks about that....is we got that with the Kamo arc. With Anne, Ryuji, even Yuki and Shiho. Kamo was manipulative, and his manipulation caused people to make....not the best choices, all out of a means to survive. Ryuji physically acted against Kamo, and he got his leg broken, team disbanded, and outcasted. Anne was trying to protect Shiho’s position on the team, which lead to her almost getting harmed by Kamo, Shiho getting harmed, her not seeing the truth about what was going on around her, and she didn’t tell Shiho (because she didn’t want Shiho to think she didn’t get on the team for her own merits), and so on. Shiho didn’t tell Anne what was going on because she wanted to protect Anne from Kamo (and was afraid Anne would, very much blame herself), and her and Yuki and the rest of the teams helped keep quiet about Kamo so they wouldn’t be next on the physical chopping block. This isn’t me blaming them, this is me showing their choices, their attempts to fix their (hopeless) situation, to help themselves or others, and the dramatic irony being it just made everything worse. BUT, even tho Kamo was the real one to blame, each character is aware of the actions that were made, and the consequences of each action (esp Anne/Ryuji/Shiho). And in their CoOps, they identify this, and take strides to learn from it so it doesn’t happen again. That’s an arc. That’s character development. They were allowed to make errors, mistakes, decisions that negatively impacted themselves/other’s. We see a solid foundation of their character from the get go, and how it changes over that small time. We don’t get that with Makoto. The group is like solid concrete to Makoto who is like shifting sand.
Sorry got a bit off topic, anyway, I hate her message of boasting about her fighting ability but she only harms her friends (outside of shadows, but that’s not special) WHILE ALSO being a damsel that needs someone else to rescue her! I hate how when she gets called out, she wants to drop it, and gives gaslighty apologies, even tho she really ROYALLY screwed lot of people very badly. I hate how she demands us to help, only to literally be a detriment to our investigation. I hate how she gets to fly off the handle without repercussions (despite needing to be cool calm and collected for her job, especially since she miraculously can do that when needed so what the hell????). I hate how the text has her be shitty, say shitty things, be bad at her job, but will turn around and reward her time and time again.
Sure she doesn’t break the lore like Futaba, or unravel P5′s plot like Goro. But as a character with a message attached to her, even ones that the creators surely overlooked (I’m sure they didn’t intend for her to only hit her friends), it’s simple but very annoying. Fast and easy to see, doesn’t require me to think of P5′s lore as well as the grander Persona lore. Doesn’t require me to dig through text for Goro bread crumbs and then unravel the entire basis of the P5 plot thanks to him. Makoto is easier to get into, it’s smaller scale and more personal I guess.
#silly asks#silly answers#makoto salt#the thing with Kamo's arc is that when you ask 'why' to why a character or a situation is the way it is you can give a decent 'because'#when you ask 'why' with kane's arc.....you don't get that#you get a 'because' but then you keep asking 'why'#why does makoto have to stalk the PT? Because the principal is making her do it#But why is he making her do it? Because the conspiracy is breathing down his neck.#1) WHY her tho? seems a bit contrived and might not work 2) WHY do they care about some principal?#Because......um...... For 2 because he's part of the conspiracy.#Why is he part of the Conspiracy then? Um....they put him there?#BUT WHY did they put him there? Cause....it's prestigious?#BUT the game said Kamo fixed the school's bad rep so it wasn't always that...and he hired kamo.....SO WHY does he owe them getting a job at-#-a shitty school? WHY did he need help getting a job there? WHY is Haru there if-#you see? kane's arc unravels a good portion of what P5 (a least school) is based off of#vs Anne#Why won't Shiho tell Anne about the abuse? She's afraid anne might think it's her (anne's) fault and she loves her friend and wants to-#protect her. why doens't anne tell shiho? Anne doesn't want shiho to think it's shiho's fault and wants to protect shiho#kamo's arc is full of dramatic irony and people making wrong choices (which they might not realize in hindsight)#why doesn't anne know shiho is being abused? Anne thinks shiho is upset about her position on the team also Kamo won't let anyone watch#the practices so we just take the team's words at face value also the teams are protecting kamo to keep from getting hurt-#also shiho won't tell anne anything and so anne just assumes it's a rough practice and that shiho is afraid of losing her spot ALSO#ALSO anne isn't psychic also anne is outcasted from the rest of the school so she doesn't interact with them so she doesn't know what's up-#with other people and-#you can go on they have their bases covered in kamo's arc they have reasons#kamo's arc is also a bit more grounded (kane being ungrounded because of the stupid princpal and his bs0#sorry for the side rant just.......#you don't have to agree with decisions in the kamo arc...but at least they GAVE us reasonings (and the chars are aware#in hindsight that their decisions weren't great and chose to learn from them)

Dump of Chucky
Yes, I am still having chucky thoughts. It’s a thing. So here’s a dump of Chucky thoughts that have built up in my head.
A Couple Counter-Complaints
One thing that fascinates me is how a lot of people miss things or don’t understand basic things.
Now, granted, I’m not going to sit here and say this franchise makes perfect sense and has perfect continuity and perfect acting always and no plot holes. lol But like I’ve said before, it’s a killer doll. Just go with it. The things that delight me outweigh the things that don’t.
The voodoofordummies.com explanation in Cult.
If you don’t know by now that Mancini never had the greatest respect for the whole voodoo thing, and that the Cult line about the website was the updated version of the Bride of Chucky ‘Voodoo for Dummies’ book, then I’m not sure what to say.
Some people thought it was stupid convenient, but given that Mancini was basically saddled with the voodoo and this was a Bride of Chucky reference, I think it spent about as much time on an explanation as I would have expected.
Although I do think he’ll have to sit down and figure out some structure going forward, or this is going to get way too complicated.
The look of the dolls in Cult
It’s established by the doctor that they are currently making these dolls and selling them at Hot Topic. Whether the movie they were making in Seed actually got made or not, I don’t know, but obviously Tiffany is going and getting whatever is on the shelf currently and putting Chucky in it. They don’t have to look exactly like they did the first movie.
It’d be hilarious actually if Tiffany as Tilly did make the movie and was getting a cut of the Chucky merchandise profits. lol
Mancini could go so meta, but has to hold himself back after Seed, I’m sure.
Although I do think it would be possible to do it while still keeping a dark tone. Humor is great, but dark humor, etc...
I have no desire, for example, to see the return of the Glen doll. But I’m not totally opposed to them in human form. Long as they keep it dark.
The thought of murderous Glenda, a red-headed teenage girl.... Maybe it’s just seeing Fiona as the actual Seed of Chucky that makes me think seeing movie Seed of Chucky in her murderous glory could be so dark and fun if they cast it right.
It took Chucky a long time to get revenge on Sarah.
First of all, the Curse backstory obviously didn’t exist until they wrote Curse. So good luck making everything fit perfectly. I think it fits enough.
But secondly, Chucky was a little busy. The original parameters were that he had to put his soul into Andy and only Andy before it was too late. The first movie takes place over the course of what, a week, maybe? Then he’s toast for awhile.
When he wakes up he again has to find Andy. That might take another week before he’s toast again. Then a lot of years go by with Chucky out of the picture entirely.
When he wakes up again, he has to find Andy. Realizes he can choose another kid once he’s already there. Dies again. Is gone for a long time until Tiffany brings him back.
So he’s actually been alive for, what, a month total since he put himself into the doll? A month out of twenty plus years.
By the time Bride rolls around, and Andy is no longer his only option, a lot of time has gone by. Who knows where Sarah is. Chucky’s priority is still to get out of this doll. He’s running around with his old flame for a couple of weeks maybe before they both die again.
Seed. Still focused on getting into human bodies. Chucky gets overwhelmed by his family responsibilities. They say they’re leaving him and he gets very angry. ‘Nobody leaves me!’ (I feel like this line is supposed to be a reference to something, but whatever it is, I haven’t seen it. as it is, it could work as residual betrayal issues). He tries to kill them, or at least her. Par for Chucky’s course. Glen kills him instead. Mostly.
Chucky is dismembered at least for a number of years.
The end of Seed is the first time Chucky expresses that he’s gotten used to being a doll, actually kind of digs it, digs that he’s an infamous serial killer doll, anyway. So for the first time, he’s no longer focused on going into a human. He still will later on, but it’s not like a do or die thing anymore. He’s cool with whatever.
So, really, the only time he had a moment to even try to track Sarah down was between Seed and Curse. And if you want to headcanon, you can say that part of him making up with Tiffany was him pleading commitment issues because of this chick. So Sarah becomes like their little marital therapy project. lol
As for Sarah, she likely thought he was dead this whole time. She was in the hospital for awhile, I’m sure. And then had her life to deal with. Not to mention being mentally unstable. She probably wasn’t super caught up with the news of the day. And obviously didn’t stay in Chicago.
The one thing I wish they would have tied in in Cult was that Nica’s mother was mentally unwell. Nica could have said her family had a history of mental illness. Make Nica’s ‘snap’ more believable to her and everyone else. But it might have been too long and clunky, idk.
Oh, no, not the stuffing!
A lot of people upset that Mancini broke doll innards continuity in Curse. If I really cared about doll innards continuity, maybe I would be upset too. Idk.
As it is, I actually do think that those moments would have looked super weird with blood and guts all over everything. I do think the look of it fit the mood of that particular movie. Mancini chose what looked best over anything else. I’m cool with it. Obviously not everyone is, but whatever. This isn’t really a defense. It totally was broken continuity. I just didn’t care.
‘The first three were awesome and the rest sucked!’
Everybody has their own tastes. The first three were very simple, actually. In overall structure.
I can see people not liking things getting overly Muppet Movie in Seed, but by the time we were done with three movies with the same basic plot, I was ready to see something different. I am confused by people who want to see the same movie over and over again.
The last two, to me, are the darkest and most interesting. Nica’s story is the darkest in the franchise. And Curse had the creepiest Charles Lee Ray scene, imho.
Also, Chucky’s a person. He’s a complete sociopath, but he has more than one layer.
And for the record, Chucky was always funny.
‘You could just kick him!’
A non-horror person, here. I am not a fan of this series because Chucky scares me. He doesn’t. But that’s not the only reason to like him. He’s just a fun character. It’s like watching a btvs-style villain.
I do think he has to be dark. I do think you have to take him seriously. Making the human characters compelling is the key to that. Making the audience care that they might die.
But I don’t sit there and wonder whether or not I could beat him in a fight.
Was Malcolm possessed or not?
I thought it was obvious in the end that he was not, and thought that was kind of a cool moment, actually. But some seem really confused about it.
He took on a Chucky personality, but was not actually possessed. That’s why he only ever stands there looking sinister. And why Nica!Chucky is like, ‘in your dreams.’
Why did Madeline throw Chucky and him into the grave though? I have no idea.
But that segues into another Chucky thought that I’ll put in another post.

#TheFlash Season 5 Episode 4 "News Flash" Recap and Review
The episode starts with a new voiceover, all about Nora.
Then there is a flashback to the end of Season 4, aka the night of the Enlightenment. Some girl is filming it on her phone and is saved by Nora.
Iris is listening to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and attempting to make breakfast. Her attempt is very poor, but Barry is sweet anyway. Nora has a new phone, that Barry gave her without talking to Iris, and she has a text from Sherloque telling them to come to S.T.A.R Labs.
Barry and Iris talk about how she’s still getting nowhere with Nora.
Sherloque is giving a run through on Cicada. They all pitch in, except Cisco, who is laying low at his parent’s. I miss him. Anyway, Ralph suggests that they follow the mask that Cicada wears. Sherloque mocks him, but ultimately agrees to help.
The rest of them go to the CCPD softball game. Barry is not good at softball. Nora is on an app called Spyn Zone run by a girl named Spencer Young. Iris used to work with her and didn’t like her. Nora does and makes several digs at Iris’s website. She goes to get food when the app does something to her. Cecile can sense that something’s wrong.
A cop walks in with a backpack bomb and Nora throws it into space. Neither remember anything and the girl from the flashback, Spencer Young, is filming it.
Everyone talks at the now crime scene. Iris is afraid that with all the new publicity, Nora could become Cicada’s next target.
The mask is an industrial respirator. If they can figure out who manufactured it, they can find Cicada.
Iris confronts Spencer and tells her to back off. She won’t, mostly because she doesn’t like Iris.
Barry is checking out the cop that had the bomb. He seems normal. He doesn’t even know where he would gotten a bomb. Joe does. There is surveillance video of him getting it from evidence lockup. Before Joe can actively beat the crap out of him, CCPD gets an alert.
There’s a fire at Central City Picture News, where Iris used to work. Barry and Nora show up to put it out and Spencer, who is filming it, redirects Barry to Las Vegas with a headline. Iris has to talk Nora through putting out the fire.
Barry doesn’t remember anything, just like Nora and the cop. They think he might have been hypnotized and that she’s a meta. Her power is creating headlines, fake news to a whole new level. Nora disagrees and is mad that Iris went to see her.
Ralph and Sherloque ask about the masks. There are three plants in Central City alone whose employees all wear the exact mask. Little do they know that Cicada is watching them.
Nora is supposed to surveil Spencer and see if she’s a meta, but instead decides to strike up a conversation with her. Iris jumps in and puts her back on track. Spencer shows no signs of being a meta.
After Spencer leaves, Iris and Nora finally talk. Iris put a power dampening chip in Nora. Nora didn’t even know she had powers until six months ago. Now that would put a dampener on any parental relationship.
Barry and Iris talk about it. Iris feels guilty, but Barry has faith in her. I’m with Iris on this one.
Sherloque needs Caitlin to punch him in the chest. She does, after some prodding, and he has an epiphany.
There’s an alert at Central City Stadium. When Barry and Nora get there, it’s empty. Right as the team figures out that Spencer is hypnotizing people using her headlines, Nora sees one telling her to kill the Flash.
Iris uses the extrapolator to go to the stadium and hits Nora with a tranquilizer before she Reverse Flashes Barry. Barry then catches Spencer.
Sherloque gives them a rundown on Cicada. He has an injured lung from the satellite debris on the night of the Enlightenment. Two speedsters means different debris pattern. The debris created meta tech, like the dagger and Spencer’s phone. Sherloque even gives Ralph the credit.
Iris and Nora talk again, and it does not go well. The number one thing that you do not tell your traumatized daughter is that you’re sure you had a good reason. Barry makes it worse when he comes in and backs Iris up, even though he’s the one that has faith in Iris’s decision making.
Nora runs off to stay with Joe and Cecile.
Cicada is in a lot of pain. His wound is getting worse, and he’s getting super strength?
Dang. Now we know why Nora doesn’t like her mom. That makes her vulnerable and easily pliable for the right person to manipulate. I wonder who? 7.5/10

“The Leader That You’ve Become”: Allura and the Blue Lion
Alternatively Titled: Dreamworks Let This Poor Girl Have Fun For Once In Her God Damn Life
I already wrote a long ass meta about putting Lance in the Black Lion and talked about Allura in it, but fuck it. I have free time (ie homework I don’t want to do) so let’s write another one about just Allura. This is gonna be long so like, in summary, my argument is that I think that: 1. Allura’s personality and quintessence match the Blue Lion pretty well, and 2. Putting Allura in the Blue Lion might allow for interesting character growth.
But yeah okay let’s go:
So I’ll be the first to say that Black Paladin Allura would make me shit myself out of pure joy. And scenes like the above definitely point in that direction. Coran says it himself, Allura’s a leader. She’s been running this universe saving thing since day one. Sure, Shiro leads the team, but he’s Allura’s second in command. She’s the one who owns the lions, chooses the missions, makes everyone train, builds alliances, gets the team to safety, organizes resistance efforts, and operates the castle. Shiro might be the head of Voltron, but Allura is and always has been Voltron’s leader.
Alright then, I’m sold. Let’s put her in Black!!
But… would that really be the best move, narratively?
For one thing, if the purpose of removing Shiro from the equation (for at least a little while) is to shake up the team, then putting Allura in as Black (at least immediately) is a very strange move. None of the team dynamics get challenged at all, really, because just be swapping out one stable leader for another. It would make sense, but it would kind of be a cop out to the whole big “ooh, what’s the team going to do without Shiro” build up.
Plus, the idea of consolidating the two roles of Leader of Voltron and Head of Voltron kind of stresses me out. That might just be a personal thing, but I feel like it’s really critical for these roles to be kept separate, and what happened to Shiro is proof as to why. If something happens to one of the leaders, the other is still there to handle things. But like, if Allura gets both jobs, and god forbid something happens to her, the team is left with two vacancies and no leaders at all. Then they’d really be screwed.
And on that note, we need two leaders to question each other’s judgement and decisions. We see this dynamic play out between Shiro and Allura frequently. When Shiro says “yeah let’s trust Ulaz,” Allura’s the one to step back and be like “what.” Shiro ends up being right to do so, but Allura’s questions are completely valid. How do we know this isn’t a trap? What have these guys been doing for the past 10000 years? Shiro was ready to trust Ulaz kinda just… ‘cause, while Allura brought the more realistic concerns onto the table.
And when Allura and Keith leave the castle-
-Shiro’s the one to be like, uh, we kind of need you guys here. He and Allura balance each other out. If you combine the two roles, the only judgement the team will follow is Allura’s, because no one else would have the authority to really challenge her. And while she is, again, a brilliant leader, that doesn’t mean she’s always right. Like, specifically in this whole “Keith and Allura run away” thing, they could have tested whether or not it was them being tracked in a different, safer way. Ditching the team and leaving them open to attack in the middle of the night was not the wisest move. This is why we need two leaders, so that one can point out when the other is being too brash or too trusting.
The final issue is:
It’s been emphasized by Coran time and time again that Allura’s quintessence is needed to operate the castle (specifically the wormholes, so that the team can escape if need be). Who would be able to do it in her absence? Can Allura even pilot a lion at all?
Alright so that lays out all of the potential issues with Allura being Black Paladin (and I want to reiterate: I could be completely wrong about all of this lmao, I’m but a mere teenager overanalyzing a children’s tv show). But how would her being the Blue Paladin instead solve any of them?
Well, for one:
This is the same episode where Keith and Allura run off together. Coran is shown to be capable of operating the castle (to an extent) without Allura!! We don’t know the full extent of the castle’s reliance on Allura, and I’m sure that’ll be relevant / explained in season 3, but one thing she’s definitely needed in the castle for is wormholing. It’s a pretty well-established fact that Allura’s the only one who can activate the wormholes.
But that could change soon.
Like Slav points out, the castle is outdated. There’s a chance that someone (maybe him, maybe Coran, maybe someone else) might fix it up to solve that problem.
So, who’s to say that they might not be able to fix things so that Coran might be able to make wormholes instead?
If that happens, Allura could pilot blue, since the team would still be able to wormhole away (assuming that’s really the main thing they need Allura in the castle for).
On another note:
Allura’s quintessence seems to be blue (it was pink at the end of season two but that was probably because of Haggar I think). I’m still kind of unsure on the whole quintessence thing because the only people on Team Voltron that we see actually using quintessence are Allura (seen above) and Shiro (seen with his arm), so there’s no proof that the color of the quintessence matters when it comes to piloting, but Allura does say:
And if Allura has blue quintessence… Hm.
We’re never told in the series what the traits of the Blue Lion are because Lance cuts Allura off, but a look on the Voltron website tells us that it’s “the friendliest of the lions and the most accepting of new pilots” along with having a confidence that “comes in handy in tough battles against bigger and better opponents.” Allura is undoubtedly friendly, as the Alteans are a diplomatic race. We see the extent of her friendliness when she’s willing to work with the Galra despite the fact that they killed her entire civilization (which, in her mind, happened like a few weeks ago thanks to the whole cyro freeze thing). She’s also quite confident in her abilities and judgement– like I’ve said, she’s a leader.
Additionally, the Blue Lion is the Guardian of Water, and water is typically tied to traits like adaptability and healing. We see Allura healing the Balmera, and we see her being adaptable when she… does anything tbh. Allura is frighteningly well-adjusted. As soon as she comes out of the healing pod she basically accepts that she’s been frozen for ten thousand years off the bat. She’s really good at going with the flow. She throws together a resistance between the Marmora, Balmerans, and the Olkari, works to train the team despite them being young and inexperienced because hey, they’re all we’ve got, and agrees to work with the Marmora (again, despite the fact that the Galra killed everyone she knew like a month ago).
And then there’s the whole “most accepting of new pilots” thing. The fact that that information is purposefully kept from the audience makes it seem to me that the writers are setting things up so that someone new is going to pilot the Blue Lion next season. And Allura’s a good bet for who it might be.
The main reason people seem to be nervous about about Allura not becoming the Black Paladin is that they feel that if she doesn’t, it means that Dreamworks is shoving her character to the side. But, like I’ve said, Allura is and always has been the leader of Voltron. She’s the Commander of the Castleship! Her not becoming the Head doesn’t invalidate the power she already has within the group. She is and always has been the most powerful member of the team. That first picture I showed, where Coran calls her a leader, comes before she’s ever stepped foot in a lion.
Also, it’s basically impossible for Dreamworks to push Allura aside next season anyway lol. We’ve just found out that there are other Alteans! And that they’re evil!! Plus we’ve got a mini-resistance with the Blade of Marmora and the Balmerans and the Olkari going, and Lotor, who in the OG series basically completely revolved around Allura, is coming to town. Allura’s. Got a lot on her plate, and her plot’s going to be central to the next season anyway. So I wouldn’t consider it too much of a loss if she didn’t pilot Black (or even a Lion at all!).
Okay so anyway I’ve been arguing so far that Allura could be the Blue Paladin, that it would make sense, and that it wouldn’t hurt her character, but to be honest, the biggest reason I feel like Allura should be Blue Paladin if she does become a paladin is that I think it would be good for her character.
We always see Allura as being this very serious person. She’s just lost her people in a war, the man who did it is still out there and is doing the same thing to others, and now she’s gotta deal with a bunch of punkass kids who don’t really know what they’re doing. She’s mourning and stressed. In the Space Mall episode when everyone leaves, she says it herself: “What am I supposed to do now, sit around and worry all day?”
She worries about the paladins, about her duties, about Zarkon. Sure, she handles this all incredibly well, but it’s clear that there’s already a lot on her plate. And she runs a tight castle-ship as a result.
But, on occasion, we get to see another side of her:
She likes having fun! She plays road trip games with the mice and gossips with them, she wants to go out and see pirates, and when she’s left alone in the castle, she plays bumper cars and races down the hallways (god bless the comic tbh).
The Voltron wiki describes the Blue Lion as an energetic and fun-loving lion. And I’d say that’s an accurate assessment. The first thing Blue does it take Lance out on a joy ride!!
The Voltron website describes Allura as “often feeling the weight of the universe on her shoulders.” Putting her in a happy, energetic lion like Blue would allow us to explore the playful, lighter side of her more, which would add a new dimension to her character. Whereas if she’s put in the Black Lion, I can’t see her character changing / getting more depth from the placement. It would be yet another responsibility, which would reinforce Allura’s current feelings of personal responsibility for the successes and failures of Voltron. And, from a writer’s perspective, why would I want to put my character in a role that wouldn’t change them? It’s much more interesting and dynamic to put them in a situation they have to adapt to and learn from.
Plus, we’d get to see Allura bond with the team! She’s sort of removed from the rest of the paladins at this point. We see her try to chat with Pidge in Season 1, but for the most part, the only conversations Allura really has are ones involving training/missions/fighting Zarkon (minus the ones she has with Lance, which are him being thirsty and her shutting him down lmao). Being the Blue Paladin would allow her to integrate herself into the team more fully and just. Be with them. Not as the Serious Leader but as an equal.
Alright I’m gonna wrap this up here before I write another ten paragraphs on why Allura deserves to be happy and have fun and have friends and kick ass without having to worry about that god damn particle barrier. Basically Allura being Blue Paladin would make sense, wouldn’t make her any less of the leader she already is, and would allow us to explore a new side of her! She was Blue Paladin in the OG series, and there’s a possibility that she might in this one, too!
And for one last parting shot:
Everyone else is color coordinated with their lions (minus Lance, kind of). And guess what color Allura wears?
#voltron#voltron meta#allura#god i should really do my homework lmao#if you read this mess i love you#i just really wanna have allura pilot a lion!!! but if she doesn't she's still a badass and I love her

Thoughts on Oh! Suketora!!! Yuri!!! on ICE / Original Skate Song Collection (Part 1)
I've been looping this soundtrack for weeks now in my car, which leaves me able to focus entirely on the songs, without the distraction of the characters' monologues or visuals. It's truly an amazing soundtrack and I'm in awe at the amount of love and effort poured into it.
The music producer is Tominaga Keisuke, who is also the founder of PIANO INC. Umebayashi Tarou (梅林 太郎) and Matsushiba Taku (松司馬 拓) are also part of PIANO (which also lists Yoko Kanno on their website!). They're really young, aged 36 and 25 respectively. Umebayashi Tarou did more of the contemporary songs; he's so versatile! From "Yuri on Ice", to "Welcome to the Madness" - holy shit! Matsushiba Taku composed the more classical pieces and also conducted the orchestra Ensemble FOVE. He's really amazing, and it's hard to believe he's only 25.
So! My thoughts on the songs in the soundtrack:
1. ARIA - STAMMI VICINO. NON TE NE ANDARE - Matsushiba Taku / ENSEMBLE FOVE / Tenor: 工藤和真
This is Victor's beautiful Free Skate song. Much had been said about the significance of this song and programme, so I won't repeat that. I'm really impressed that Kubo-sensei wrote the lyrics and got them translated into Italian and it all just worked. My fangirl buddies Q and S kept telling me that it was an existing opera, not one made for the anime, but they were totally fooled.
2. 愛について~Eros~ IN REGARDS TO LOVE-EROS- by Mastsushiba Taku, featuring OKI JIN
I didn't really fall in love with this song until I was looping it in the car. It's such an exciting song, with the flamenco beat and layers of intertwined melodies. I can't believe it's only around two minutes, when there are so many sections and variations in this piece, rising to a breathtaking climax.
3. YURI ON ICE / UMEBAYASHI TAROU
Beautiful. Just absolutely beautiful. I love the piano arrangement here; and I love it when the strings kick in for the chorus. It's such an emotional song that truly encompasses Yuuri's journey; without it, I doubt I would have been moved to tears like I was every single time Yuuri skated it in competition. I bought the score, but it's really darned hard and I think I'll be able to play it in...perhaps 6 months? *trying hard to reactivate synapses that went dormant 20 years ago...* Right. Not that I don't love them, but I don't really have much to say for the first three songs as they have been META-ed to death on tumblr already :) But I find myself going back to track 1 every time track 3 ends!
4. 愛について~Agape~ / UMEBAYASHI TAROU
It only hit me after the anime ended that it was actually a young choirboy singing this, and not a girl as I'd previously thought. It's very fitting, giving that it's Yuri's short programme for what's likely his last season before he gets that final growth spurt. Again, the lyrics were written in Japanese and translated into Latin by a university professor (found the English translation by a fan here!) Looking at the lyrics, I'm not sure how it embodies the theme of unconditional love...well the persona seems to be spending his entire life diligently working to prove himself deserving of love and mercy...and does it seem to end with the persona's death and finding the ultimate happiness love/happiness? While this is a programme that Yuri Plisetsky eventually skated and it represents him finding love in the people around him (granddad, coaches, new friends etc), this was originally supposed to be a programme that Victor was doing for himself. It's worthwhile thinking about how this applies to Victor; perhaps he does harbour a yearning that all his hard work on the ice will pay off and that he will find his own happiness at the end, even if it may mean ending his skating career...I really don't know. On a nother note, I just noticed this while I was taking the screencap: in episode 11 when Yuri skates this, Coach Yakov gets a momentary flashback of long-haired teenage Victor skating while looking at him. Perhaps Victor does love Coach Yakov so much as a parental figure that it comes through in his choreography.
5. PIANO CONCERTO IN B-MINOR:ALLEGRO APPASIONATO / Ensemble FOVE / conducted by Matsushiba Taku
This is Yurio's free programme piece. It's another wonder! It starts with a furious, impatient piano section - so very like Yurio himself. In the middle, the song transitions to a calmer, warmer strings section - very representative of his personal growth. In the anime, both times Yurio skates the free programme he's having his angry internal monologue here so I've never really listened to it before playing the CD. In episode 9, this section is even cut short as we don't get to see Yuri's full skate. Finally, the song wraps up with a culmination of both the prior themes and ends on a very triumphant note. Again, given the story that it tells, I'm really surprised that this piece is just over three minutes in duration.
6. MINAMI'S BOOGIE / UMEBAYASHI TAROU
This is a fun song. I've no real attachment to it, though, because I've no real attachment to Minami's story, adorable though he may be!
7. SHALL WE SKATE? / MATSUSHIBA TAKU feat. The Soulmatics
Phichit's Short Programme song! This is sheer exuberance. It's from the fictional "Shall We Skate" movie, that probably references "The King and I". The synopsis is here. Anyway, I love how this is like a lush Disney musical number. Phichit is such a Disney prince!
8. TERRA INCOGNITA / MATSUSHIBA TAKU feat.U-zhaan
I really love this song which was used in Phichit's Free Skate. Somehow the word that best comes to mind when describing Phichit and his programmes is "exuberant". This song is a delicious, addictive mix of Indian influences, a cacophony of instruments (flute, sitar, bagpipes and more!), lovely melodies and counter melodies, and exuberant vocals. It strikes me as a song of celebration, to be performed at a grand royal event. I couldn't quite figure out what language was used, but someone blogged that it was just made-up words according to this interview. It's pretty long, and I only understand around 50% of it...but the song is meant to be sung in an ancient language, and the vocalist herself participated in coming up with the words. Also, this song is meant to embody hybrid world music; they wanted to convey a sense of chaos, but with balance within the chaos. When I have the time I'll sit down and properly translate it and edit this post if needed...
More later! I've at least gotten through the songs of my favourite characters.
