hi i’m going to rant about my parents/ family bc i came out of my therapy session and i am angry, you do not need to read this in anyway bc there are some heavier topics like abuse and generational trama
my parents are fucking narcissists but are also deeply traumatized
i’m puerto rican on both sides but my moms side is why i think of myself as a mixed kid
my dads just puerto rican and spaniard ( that’s probably only bc of colonization but family did come over here from puerto rico (probably after it was declared a us territory bc i don’t think we have any documentation on it))
my mom on the other hand is also puerto rican (and french but same deal bc colonization) but this woman is fucking south east asian (Bangladesh/Pakistan) and decides that just bc she’s pale she can go about life pretending to be a white woman. it fucking infuriates me because assimilation has convinced her that all the shit that happened to her won’t matter if she pretends that she’s white. it kills me bc i also came out fucking pale and for years i had my identity invalidated and belittled ( i was quite literally called the white kid of my family) bc my parents cut off all their ties to their culture. yeah i’m pale but unfortunately i’m too fucking mixed to fit in with the white kids and bc i was never actually taught spanish or was able to fully embrace my own culture i’m too fucking white for the spanish kids. it’s just like i’m never gonna fit in anywhere bc generational trama and poverty has convinced this woman that pretending like she is white and that her kids are white she’ll be fine. i got fucking abused by an alcoholic/drug addict in her pursuit of the white american dream, and it fucks me over every time i have to think about it. it kills me that i am somehow a step ahead of where my mother was in her life because i fucking graduated highschool and didn’t drop out and get my GED. it makes me so angry that i’ve been fucked over since before i was born, but there is actively no one at fault bc so has she.
and don’t even get me started on my dad bc he’s exactly the fucking same, he has fucking mixed kids and pretends to be a fucking white guy bc he’s pale and he can. and he plays into all of the same toxic stereotypes my mother does for the white american dream. god he took it to the next fucking level by getting with a woman (my parents are divorced have been since before i started kindergarten) who plays into all of the karen stereotypes ( this woman has actively displayed racist, homophobic, and transphobic behavior, and probably more that i can’t think of right now) and wonders why i don’t want to see him all the time. god he went on a whole rant one time on why kids need to have both parents in their life (referring to a mother and a father), he said that to me his openly gay and at the time i was in the closet about my gender identity, but it’s like, you and your wife have made it perfectly clear you do not respect my identity in any way so why would i want to talk to you. and like i understand this man grew up without his dad bc he died but i think actively emotionally (and later on physically) abandoning your children bc you don’t know how to be a father figure DOES NOT SCORE YOU POINTS IN THE FATHER DEPARTMENT.
god i’m just so fucking angry of being used by my family bc i’m younger than them. IVE BECOME A PARENT TO MY SISTERS CHILD BECAUSE SHE IS EXACTLY A REFLECTION OF MY MOM. i am so tired of it all

Page 4: Bella and Olivia Jade Giannulli -- life on their own -- find out what Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli’s daughters have been up to while their famous parents sweat it out in prison -- Bella has been so stressed out and felt she deserved a trip with her buds so she went to a luxury resort in Santa Barbara over Thanksgiving weekend
Page 6: It’s been a little over a year since Felicity Huffman was released from prison after serving her time for role in the college admissions scandal but she is finally starting to get her life and career back on track -- initially she was nervous about working again given the controversy and everything that went down and she seriously wondered if there would be anything out there for her material-wise but she shouldn’t have worried as she landed a part in an upcoming pilot in which she’ll play a recently widowed owner of a Triple-A baseball team and she’s really excited about the show
Page 7: Kristin Cavallari is fed up with Carrie Underwood’s meddling in her divorce from Jay Cutler -- after Kristin called time on her seven-year marriage Carrie and her husband Mike Fisher who used to be Nashville couple-friends to both Kristin and Jay have taken Jay’s side and since then there’s been some snide stuff said that’s made it clear how Carrie really fills about Kristin -- while Jay spent Thanksgiving with Carrie and Mike, Kristin filmed a wine-fueled Instagram Live and Carrie finds this type of thirsty behavior on social media incredibly lame and she’s saying it’s obvious Kristin cares more about upping her profile than making any type of family peace
* After nearly 60 years in showbiz Cher has a different aspirations -- since traveling to Pakistan to help a mistreated elephant from a local zoo be relocated to an animal sanctuary she’s saying this is her new mission to help endangered species in third world countries and campaign for other good eco causes -- Cher spends much of her time cooped up and bored in her Malibu mansion and her trip made her realize there’s a world out there that needs her help
* Mark Harmon of NCIS is all work and no play these days and nearly two decades in the same TV gig as Leroy Gibbs has only made things worse as the responsibilities of the show seem to wear heavier on Mark by the year and even on a break you can’t get him to crack a smile or tell a joke; he’d rather go lie down in his trailer -- off set Mark and his wife of 33 years Pam Dawber get along because they’re such homebodies and Mark can usually be found working on his cars in the garage or relaxing in the yard and he cherishes his quiet time but people have stopped inviting him out because he’s known as Mr. Boring
Page 8: Dolly Parton is spreading Christmas cheer far and wide with a new TV special and album and Netflix movie but at her home in Tennessee the holiday spirit is decidedly lacking because Dolly is forgoing her favorite 40-year-running traditions which are filling her house with trees and driving her nieces and nephews and their kids around her farm in golf carts dressed as Santa and handing out presents because of her concern for her husband Carl Dean who has Alzheimer’s disease and he’s in a high-risk group for coronavirus so she’s restricted the property to just them and two staff members -- it breaks Dolly’s heart to have to cancel her big annual celebration and she’s still decorated her home to the nines but it’s a lonely feeling knowing the family won’t be there to see it
* Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton are proving themselves to be perfectly postmodern parents by raising their kids Prince George and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with firm rules for TV and electronic use -- Kate who recently revealed she’s fielded her share of temper tantrums actively attempts to stave off meltdowns with a strict rewards chart and the kids have to earn screen time -- Kate prefers to keep them busy with activities like board games and hikes and baking which the children enjoy anyway
* After spending the last several years living a relatively low-key life in his native England Russell Brand is desperate to have a bigger presence in Hollywood but his wife Laura insists he stay put -- Russell’s craving SoCal living and the copious acting jobs and event invites that came with it but Laura prefers their British life outside the spotlight with their young daughters -- while some work has come to him in England like the upcoming Death on the Nile if he had his way he’d make a more aggressive career push in L.A.

Page 28: Like most Garth Brooks and wife Trisha Yearwood have had a challenging 2020 but their 15-year marriage was put to the test this past summer when the country superstars’ daughter Allie tested positive for Covid-19 -- they were worried sick and had to go into quarantine themselves and not being able to hold Allie’s hand was terrible for both of them but fortunately Allie’s case was mild and Garth and Trisha’s tests came back negative
Page 30: Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott who have amicably coparented their daughter Stormi since their split last year and recently spent Thanksgiving together as a family are drawing up plans to have another baby together in 2021 because both of them want to give Stormi a sibling ASAP and neither can imagine going through this process with anyone else -- the exes are figuring out a contract to specify their family plans that will protect Kylie’s money and outline coparenting terms more formally and give them each an agreeable share of custody if things don’t stay as rosy down the line
* They’ve costarred in five films and have proclaimed they’re each other’s work wives and are finally single at the same time so pals of Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis are urging the longtime friends to give it a go romantically especially now that Jason has split from Olivia Wilde -- Jennifer always says Jason makes her laugh the way no one else can -- while Jason’s primarily focusing on coparenting his kids he’s long harbored warm and fuzzy feelings toward Jen and he would love to ask her out but the only thing holding him back is the potential to ruin their solid friendship
* Love Bites -- Johnny Galecki and Alaina Meyer split, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky dating, Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan engaged

* A rough year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle including inter-family strife and a move across the pond and a devastating miscarriage has only strengthened their bond -- after Meghan revealed she and Harry had miscarried in July the two were quite overwhelmed by the outpouring of compassion and the response not only validated their decision to go public a thousand times over but it also helped them grow even closer -- they’re determined to put this behind them and try for another baby at the earliest opportunity but more than anything else it’s really underlined how they belong together as soulmates

View for Talaq in Pakistani Community:
A written Talaq in Pakistan at best is described as Talaq Bidat which is not recognized as valid by Shia Law. According to Shia Doctors, the Talaq in Pakistan must be orally pronounced by the husband, in the presence of two witnesses and the wife, in a set form of Arabic words. A written divorce is not recognized, except in certain circumstances. A divorce deed even if it is executed by the husband is not effective in law to separate the two spouses, if violation of these provisions of the Shia Fiqh. Pronouncement of written Talaq in Pakistan not invalid for reason that no notice thereof served on the Chairman. Provisions of S. 7 of Ordinance, 1961 would apply in case of talaq in Pakistan.

What Qur’an says about Khula procedure:
Since declared repugnant to Qur'an and Sunnah dissolution of marriage on basis of Khula procedure in Pakistan is an independent right. Her failure to establish grounds other than Khula procedure in Pakistan taken by her shall not prejudice her Khula right. Onus of establishing hatred required to secure Khula procedure in Pakistan shall not be made so strict as to compel wife to live in an unhappy union. Discord between husband and wife involved in litigation wipes out any hope of reconciliation entitling wife to dissolution of marriage on Khula ground. Khula cannot be granted to wife just for asking. It cannot be equated with husbands, right to dissolve marriage by pronouncing Talaq. Grant of Khula in Pakistan is dependent upon satisfaction of Court that refusal to dissolve marriage would amount to forcing parties to live in Pronouncement of written Talaq not invalid. Wife's right of Khula in Pakistan is an independent right not by a hateful union. Khula procedure in Pakistan granted without recording reason for finding that it was not possible for parties to live together as husband and wife, would be open to reversal by High Court in writ jurisdiction.
 Authority for Talaq Access:
Pronouncement of Talaq by husband without notice to Chairman was not invalid. Pronouncement of Talaq by husband without notice to chairman union council as required by Section 7 was not invalid. Husband never revoked Talaq expressly or otherwise. Divorce is determined and separation by mutual consent is also considered. Subsequent conduct of husband sufficiently rebutting presumption that omission to give notice to Chairman union council as required under S. 7, revokes Talaq impliedly. Held, main object of S. 7 of prevent dissolution of marriage by Talaq pronounced by husband bilaterally not defeated by non-giving of notice under S.7 or 7(1) and did not render Talaq ineffective in circumstances. Second marriage by divorce after expiry of period of iddat was valid and child out of such wedlock legitimate.
Tumblr media
Some Laws for Muslim about Divorce Procedure:
No mode is prescribed for pronouncement of hasty divorce. Under the Muslim Personal Law, the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 no mode is prescribed for pronouncement of divorce. It is established law that a Muslim can pronounce a divorce orally or make the divorce in writing. In fact, under the Muslim Personal Law a divorce in writing became irrevocable s soon as the same was written but the Ordinance has made inroads into the Muslim Personal Law by providing a machinery and procedure for postponement of its effect for 90 days. Provision of S. 7(6) treating as"Talaq-e-Mughallaza'" Talaq pronounced by husband thrice in one sitting. Stands in opposition to Hanafi view of Shariat. Application and enforcement of S. 7(6) would be a conflict between law and conscience of people belonging to Hanafi sect and entail insurmountable difficulties in society majority of which consists of Hanafís.

Bruising of a Brotherly Bond
Diana begged her boys to look out for each other for life but, as RICHARD KAY reveals, the whole family are worried about a widening rift between William and Harry No picture says more about the natural bonding of brothers than that taken of Princes Harry and William at Harry's wedding last year.Their affection and mutual support for one another on the most public of stages, yet most personal of occasions, was both poignant and compelling. How utterly tragic then that less than 18 months after that joyous day at Windsor Castle, all the talk now is of rift and division between the two princes.
Stories of bad blood had been circulating for months but, with one extraordinary intervention, Prince Harry has given credence to the rumours by admitting there have been tensions between the pair.
Tumblr media
No picture says more about the natural bonding of brothers than that taken of Princes Harry and William at Harry's wedding last year (pictured during Harry's wedding in May last year) While a family row of this nature is by no means as constitutionally dangerous as the upheavals over the Abdication and the Duke of Windsor, the implications could be just as damaging, not least because the monarchy is arguably more vulnerable to criticism than it was in the Thirties. The early signs are not encouraging.
Within hours of Harry's candid interview in an ITV documentary, during which he said he and his brother are travelling on 'different paths', William was concerned enough to permit aides to speak of his worries about Harry's and Meghan's welfare.
According to a Kensington Palace source quoted by the BBC, William had expressed the hope that his brother and sister-in-law 'are all right'.
It is highly unusual for officials to voice such personal views on a private family matter. But I understand the 'Sussex problem', as Harry and Meghan are referred to within royal circles, has dominated family discussions in recent days.
There is no disguising that the views articulated by William are shared right across the Royal Family. While sympathy for a couple struggling to adjust to royal life under a media spotlight does still exist, it is draining away.
Tumblr media
How utterly tragic then that less than 18 months after that joyous day at Windsor Castle, all the talk now is of rift and division between the two princes (pictured together in July 2018)
Prince Harry has given credence to the rumours by admitting there have been tensions between the brothers (pictured, the Cambridges and Sussexes together for a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March)
But the family are desperate not to be seen driving a deeper wedge between them and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Certainly, the Queen and Prince Charles had hoped that the challenges of fatherhood following the birth of baby Archie would have overcome the differences that existed between Harry and William. The Princes are acutely aware of the importance that their late mother placed on them looking out for each other — something she wanted them to do all their lives.
Of course, it didn't help that stories of differences first began to emerge during Meghan's pregnancy.
What was being said was that William had earlier questioned the haste with which his younger brother was wanting to marry the American actress.
William, of course, dated Kate Middleton for eight years before giving her an engagement ring.
Harry, on the other hand, had made up his mind almost immediately after being introduced to the star of the American TV legal drama Suits — a divorced woman three years his senior — at a London dinner party in 2016.
To William, advising caution was common sense. But Harry, ever sensitive, is understood to have interpreted his brother's words, as well as those from others in his circle, as an implied criticism of his choice of bride.
He also apparently accused his older brother of failing to offer support, while Kate was said to be struggling to get on with Meghan. To some extent, this explains Harry's touchiness in the run-up to his wedding, which included a row over Meghan's tiara.
Tumblr media
The brothers played polo against each other in Wokingham in July this year, which was also the last time they were pictured together
But after the wedding came two further shocks. One was the announcement that the Sussexes were decamping from Kensington Palace where they lived next door to William and Kate, and moving to Windsor.
The other was that the two brothers, whose public lives had been so entwined, were splitting their joint household, with Harry setting his up separately in Buckingham Palace.
It then emerged that they were also parting ways over their charity work with Harry and Meghan set to launch their own royal foundation next year.
But if these were the highly public examples of Harry's march towards princely independence, there were other, equally significant moves behind the scenes. Throughout his troubled 20s Harry had a close network of reliable friends.
But after the wedding came two further shocks. One was the announcement that the Sussexes were decamping from Kensington Palace where they lived next door to William and Kate, and moving to Windsor
Many of them are no longer part of his magic circle. They include school friends, vital support after Princess Diana's death, whose services are apparently no longer required. Many have been left hurt and baffled. The father of one told me: 'Harry has stayed in our house and been a very welcome guest over many years, then one day calls went unanswered.
'It was always pretty much on his terms. He was the one who usually got in touch, but there was no explanation, just silence.' Other friends say Harry complains they don't understand him.
Of course, he won't be the first married man to find new companions after taking a wife. Closer to home, I am told Harry left family members puzzled after changing telephone numbers without immediately telling them.
If this sounds familiar it is because we have been here before — with Diana. She regularly changed mobile numbers as an effective way of dumping friends she no longer wanted. Within the family, however, there has been growing anxiety. Harry's failure to spend time with the Queen at Balmoral during the summer was a strategic mistake.
Family business is usually taken care of during the long summer break in Scotland, and countless intractable conundrums have been resolved in the civilising atmosphere of Royal Deeside.
However, despite his absence from Balmoral I understand the Queen has spoken to Harry in the past month and offered to help.
Courtiers, meanwhile, were uneasy about the timing of Harry's television cri de coeur in the documentary broadcast on Sunday.
Not only did the advance publicity for it last week threaten to upstage the final part of William and Kate's highly successful trip to Pakistan, it also overshadowed a moving visit by the Countess of Wessex to Kosovo, where she met survivors of sexual violence.
Tumblr media
Sophie, Countess of Wessex meets with sexual assault survivors in Kosovo 'It is the reason why royal diaries are so carefully co-ordinated, to avoid the risk of clashes between the various households,' says an aide. 'Quite simply, you don't rain on someone else's parade.'
Sunday's broadcast also revealed Harry's wish for the couple to be seen as hard-working members of the Royal Family. So it was hardly helped by his announcement that they now plan a six-week holiday.
So what about William? He is certainly perplexed by his brother's behaviour and believes he has handled some of the issues unwisely. He, too, has had some difficult moments in the media spotlight, including Kate being photographed topless before they married and the ensuing legal fight with the paparazzi.
'He dealt with these matters in a mature and considered way,' says a friend. 'He didn't allow them to become psychodramas in the way Harry seems to.'
The fact is, William is the same figure who looked out for his younger brother at school. And as uncomfortable as he has clearly found Harry's outburst, he will always be there for him.
Not long before she died, Diana talked to William about the kind of woman he might marry. She told him that the most important thing was that they should be best friends.
The tragedy of her own marriage, she said, was that she and Prince Charles barely knew one another, and had they been friends first, they would never have separated.
Tumblr media
Diana later said that William 'got' this. According to one of the Princess's circle, William's concern about Harry marrying Meghan so quickly was probably because of that maternal advice about marrying someone you know well.
But then there is also the contrast in the way the brothers are going about their royal lives. While Harry has been criticised for using private jets while preaching about climate change, William and Kate have been seen carrying their own bags onto a budget airline flight to Aberdeen.
Instead of criticising the media as Harry did during his tour to southern Africa, William stopped to speak to them during his trip to Pakistan.
And while he protects his children from publicity, he also knows when to relax — and to be seen relaxing with them — as he did at an Aston Villa football match recently with Kate, George and Charlotte.
There is, of course, sympathy from the royals for Meghan's difficulty in adjusting to her new status, and because of her relationship with her father and other dysfunctional family members. No one more so, perhaps than Harry's own father, the Prince of Wales. But while he can offer help — and he has — Harry has not been inclined to accept it.
It is a shame. For the Duchess of Cornwall — Harry's stepmother — is familiar with the dramas of royal life. No one endured more criticism than Camilla, yet she has built a remarkable relationship with the public who admire her quiet contribution to public life at Charles's side.
For the Queen, 94 next birthday, this is no ordinary distraction which can be dismissed as mere gossip. Harry has seen to that by addressing it directly on camera. Indeed, it is a family drama that many close to the royals fear could unravel with further damaging revelations.
_________________________________
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the number one tactic of emotional/mental abusers is isolating their target away from their friends and family until you are the only person they have left or feel that they need. I learnt this the hard way in a particularly abusive relationship in my early 20′s, and it’s been really alarming seeing the same sort of patterns with M & H’s relationship.  There had already been the obvious rumblings of Tom Inskip being ghosted and now even more school friends are admitting they have been put by the wayside is bloody concerning, particularly for someone who seems increasingly emotionally fractured. All of that conjecture aside, they would have known and had access to the Court Calendar. They would have KNOWN that Countess Wessex was meeting with sexual assault survivors in Kosovo. If you were truly about “empowering women” and wanting to “shine a light” on causes such as sexual violence against women, maybe wait a fucking week or two to release Panorama 2.0 so that these women had the chance to have their plight put on a world stage? You didn’t have to publicise it during the Pakistan Tour. You didn’t have to air it during the Kosovo tour. But you did. And this is why people are finding it really bloody hard to keep swallowing the gold pill. Even people such as myself, who were absolute balls-to-the-wall diehard supporters of the two of you right from the beginning but now feel like we’ve been played like fucking idiots.

Random Eren Headcanons I Have
So I realized I don’t really show a whole lot about my characters except when I’m actually in the rps. I figure I probably should try to write some of the ones that I can think of at the moment in case anyone wants to know?? So I’m gonna do them one at a time, starting with Eren.
- Starting out with this one because it applies to any universe: I do not read Eren and Mikasa’s relationship as that of siblings in any context. If they are not the ship in the rp, then they are best friends. Referring to them as siblings makes me highly uncomfortable, so this is generally something I try to mention when needed and probably isn’t unknown. (I could go on for days of why I don’t see their relationship as that of siblings, but I won’t unless someone asks.)
The rest of these will probably be modernverse??
- Grisha is half-Pakistani and half-German and was raised between both countries before immigrating after he divorced Dina. Yes, he ran away from his first wife and his son to an entirely different country. Don’t tell me it’s not something he’d do because it’s Something He Would Fucking Do. Carla is mostly of Hispanic descent, but I haven’t decided a country or region yet because I don’t know enough about individual histories or cultures to decide. (I know a comfortable enough amount about Pakistan and Germany due to my studies.) And with the combination, Eren’s skintone is decently dark. I’ve got a drawing of him I’ve been working on that’ll show specifically the shade I imagine.
- Eren mainly speaks English, but he is conversational in Urdu and German because of his dad. However, his levels of fluency are flexible. I’ve had it before where he only learned on them mostly as a small child, and I’ve also had it where he’s behind in English in high school despite speaking it his whole life because he didn’t get as much exposure at home. Carla’s taught herself a lot of German to keep up.
- Whether Carla’s alive or not depends on the specific rp and universe. I love my angst and tend to know Eren’s character better when she’s dead, but there are some versions where I don’t think he’d have gotten through certain situations without his mom.
- He has ADHD that he’s dealt with his whole life.
- Unless requested otherwise or conflicting with the contents of the rp, in late high school and a few years after, he had some real struggles with addiction and alcoholism. Due to a very close call and finally realizing the road he was on, he worked hard and sobered up. The severity of how it affects him within the rp depends on the plot and contents.
- He’s demisexual and possibly demiromantic. As far as who he’s attracted to, he doesn’t really care to put a label on it. He doesn’t really call himself demi either though he figured out that he is. He, personally, just doesn’t care to have a label on it.
- He verses- which shouldn’t be a surprise because all my male muses do. Until I find a muse who suits me that I genuinely think would stay in one role, I’ll keep having them verse.
- He likes cooking but wouldn’t want to do it as a job or anything. He likes keeping it to himself and his friends. He also likes select video games and taking photos.
- He either plays or has previously played the guitar. Just look at him- is he not a Guitar Guy?
- Grisha stopped speaking to him around the time he was seventeen. They were still in the same house. Grisha just... stopped. This is whether Carla’s alive or not. The loss was good for Eren in a way that he didn’t have to deal with being constantly told he wasn’t good enough, but it was also rough because he knew his dad was just giving up on him.
- He doesn’t get along well with Zeke (who is about five years older instead of ten). When he was growing up, they’d only have to see each other about twice a year during summer and during Christmas. Zeke and Dina always stayed at the house, and needless to say, a lot of fights ensued between the brothers. Part of it’s Zeke’s attitude, another part is Grisha’s different treatment and expectations of them, another part is Eren got in a lot of fights period as a child and teenager.
But it’s getting late and I can’t think of any more, so I’m gonna stop for now.

Day 77 - at Storvatnet Lake, Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjell National Park
Though Henrik’s gesture to offer his cabin was very much appreciated, it reminded me how comfortable and luxurious my own van is. He had a huge woodburning stove which was lit in no time, but these timber buildings have very poor insulation. It felt like I was heating the few cubic metres outside as much as inside. A water tank with pump indoors would make life easier as well. My own little kitchen works really well. Such a small space as the van heats up incredibly quickly and the insulation works pretty well also. The temperature dropped to almost zero overnight, so that warmth was appreciated. In the end I watched the rugby in the cabin, then returned to the van for a Butter Chicken curry that I’d cooked a couple of nights ago, and to watch an Indonesian horror movie, which was surprisingly good; Impetigore, a type of Javanese folk-horror.
It seems like it’s dry for a few of days now, with a good share of sunshine. I was keen to get out, but had the conundrum of following the Australia England T20 from Perth. Fortunately technology saved me. My van router is a portable one, so I re-situated it in my backpack, and had the BBC commentary on at a low volume throughout the three hours I was out. Unlike the Pakistan series, the commentary team seems a decent one now, and they are actually in Australia, which helps. It worked well. I do like a peaceful hike, but when needs must..

My route was a circuit of four lakes, more if you include some small ones, but the Norwegians, as well as us Cumbrians, they call these tarns. With the icing sugar effect of the snow on the mountain tops, it was quite spectacular.

Tourism here in Sunndal owes a lot to Barbara Douglas, or Lady Arbuthnott. She was born into a wealthy Scottish family in Ireland in 1822. She studied the classics in Brussels, and could speak Hindi from a young age. Her first husband died of cholera, her second died in the Crimean War, and along with her third, the son of the Viscount Arbuthnott, she came on honeymoon to this very valley I am staying in. She was immediately captivated by its beauty, perhaps at the expense of her new husband..
They were soon divorced, as she blamed him for an argument that caused an epileptic seizure of her 20 year old son, that resulted in his death. Her son had always been a sickly child. The Viscount wanted him to join the army, but he preferred the piano and sketching. Alone, she drove her fitting son by horse and cart over the mountain on a track on a freezing night to the nearest village, but to no avail.she buried her son at the farm and sent her husband back to Scotland.
After a short return to Scotland, she returned to buy the farm where she had spent her honeymoon. She taught herself Norwegian, as well as the skills necessary to farm, the latter about which she wrote several books, including The Hen Wife, which is still in print in Norway. This farm, at Løken, is now a museum, and was on my route today.
A few years later, in 1876, she bought another farm, Grødalen, higher up the mountain. She became an agricultural pioneer importing British chickens and pigs, and introduced tourism to the area, mainly through hunting, but also hiking and landscape painting. She founded a local health service, a library, and gave much of her wealth to local charities. But 8 years later her bank in England collapsed and she was bankrupt. She sold her properties and lived in a much less grand cabin made from odd bits of timber donated by local people who also funded her board, and until her death in 1892, she cohabited, in poverty, with a local teacher and tradesman. She remains a renowned figure in Norwegian history. Every year since 1996 the community perform a much lauded musical about her life in the nearby town of Sunndalsora. Her house is now maintained and run as a museum that can be rented as group accommodation also. A picture is below..

Not satisfied only with the tremendous sport in Perth, in the late afternoon I settled in for the Premiership rugby. I’ve moved up a few kilometres from the rough driveway of Henrik’s cabin to the car park for the lake at Storvatnet, and a bit more sun and views. It’s usually busy in the summer, but today just a few cars passing to get to their holiday home / cabins beyond. Traditional cabins like Henrik’s are rare now. Most are renovated or even new builds worth several hundred thousand euros, and salubrious affairs, with under-floor heating, glass fronted living rooms with mock wood fires, decked and heated barbeque areas, indoor outdoor saunas, bars with vast fridges crammed with beers of the world and sound-proofed cinema rooms with legal satellite TV. Across from me, a kilometre or so away, is a large staffed mountain hut, with seasonal restaurant. There are a few people around as this is the mid-term school break, until Thursday. But only a few, it really is very quiet. It’s 740 metres above sea level, cool and mosquito free in the summer, and has fantastic cross country skiing opportunities in the late winter (February to May).
