Mastering the Art of Landing More Interviews
In the competitive landscape of job hunting, securing interviews is often the gateway to landing your dream job. However, with numerous qualified candidates vying for limited positions, it's essential to employ strategic tactics to stand out and increase your chances of being noticed by employers. Whether you're actively seeking new opportunities or aiming for career advancement, here are actionable tips to help you land more interviews:
Craft a Targeted Resume: Your resume serves as your professional snapshot, showcasing your skills, experiences, and achievements. Tailor your resume for each application by highlighting relevant qualifications that align with the job requirements. Use concise language and bullet points to make it easy for recruiters to identify your key strengths at a glance.
Optimize Your Online Presence: In today's digital age, recruiters often turn to online platforms to screen potential candidates. Ensure your LinkedIn profile is complete and up-to-date, reflecting your professional brand effectively. Use keywords related to your industry and skills to enhance your visibility in search results. Additionally, consider creating a personal website or portfolio to showcase your work and accomplishments.
Network Strategically: Networking remains a powerful tool for uncovering hidden job opportunities. Attend industry events, career fairs, and networking meetups to connect with professionals in your field. Actively engage with peers and industry leaders on social media platforms like LinkedIn by sharing relevant content and participating in discussions. Don't hesitate to reach out for informational interviews to expand your network and gain insights into potential job openings.
Customize Your Cover Letter: A well-crafted cover letter can complement your resume and demonstrate your genuine interest in the position. Customize each cover letter to the specific role and company, addressing key requirements and showcasing your enthusiasm. Use the cover letter to tell your professional story, explaining how your experiences and skills make you the ideal candidate for the role.
Apply Strategically: Instead of casting a wide net and applying to every job opening, focus on roles that align with your career goals and qualifications. Research the company culture, values, and mission to ensure a good fit. Tailor your application materials to emphasize your relevant experiences and accomplishments, demonstrating your value to potential employers.
Utilize Referrals: Employee referrals are often prioritized by hiring managers, making them an effective way to land interviews. Leverage your professional network and reach out to connections within companies you're interested in. Let them know about your job search and inquire about potential opportunities or referrals. Many organizations offer referral bonuses to employees who recommend successful candidates, making it a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Follow Up Strategically: After submitting your application, follow up with a personalized email to express your continued interest in the position. Use this opportunity to reiterate your qualifications and highlight specific reasons why you're excited about the opportunity. Keep your follow-up concise, polite, and professional, and avoid being overly persistent.
Prepare Thoroughly for Interviews: Preparation is key to acing job interviews. Research the company, its culture, and the role you're applying for to demonstrate your interest and knowledge during the interview. Practice answering common interview questions and prepare anecdotes that showcase your skills and experiences. Dress professionally, arrive on time, and bring copies of your resume and any relevant documents.
Seek Feedback and Iterate: If you're not getting the desired response from your job applications, seek feedback from mentors, career coaches, or trusted colleagues. Use their insights to identify areas for improvement and refine your approach. Continuously iterate on your resume, cover letter, and interview techniques to enhance your chances of success.
Stay Positive and Persistent: Job hunting can be a challenging and sometimes lengthy process. Stay positive, focused, and resilient in the face of rejection. Celebrate small victories along the way, such as securing interviews or receiving positive feedback. Remember that each interview is an opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of the outcome.
In conclusion, landing more interviews requires a combination of strategic planning, proactive networking, and effective communication. By implementing these actionable tips and staying persistent in your job search efforts, you can increase your visibility to employers and ultimately secure the interviews you need to advance your career. Stay adaptable, keep refining your approach, and remain confident in your abilities. With determination and perseverance, success will follow.

Harnessing the Power of AI: How LinkedIn Search Enhances Talent Acquisition
In the ever-evolving landscape of talent acquisition, LinkedIn has emerged as a powerhouse platform that connects professionals and employers worldwide. With the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly in the form of LinkedIn Search, the platform has revolutionized the way organizations identify, engage, and hire top talent. In this blog post, we will explore how harnessing the power of AI in LinkedIn Search enhances talent acquisition, enabling recruiters to find the right candidates efficiently and effectively.
Expanding the Talent Pool: LinkedIn Search, powered by AI, opens up a vast talent pool to recruiters. The platform boasts millions of active professionals across various industries and job functions. AI algorithms analyze user profiles, job history, skills, and connections to present recruiters with relevant and qualified candidates. This expanded talent pool allows recruiters to tap into a broader range of candidates, even those who may not be actively seeking new opportunities.
Precision in Candidate Selection: AI-powered LinkedIn Search enhances precision in candidate selection by leveraging advanced algorithms. Recruiters can narrow down their search criteria based on specific qualifications, experience levels, locations, and other relevant factors. This targeted approach significantly reduces the time and effort spent on reviewing irrelevant profiles, ensuring that recruiters focus on the most suitable candidates for their roles.
Proactive Talent Sourcing: LinkedIn Search enables proactive talent sourcing by empowering recruiters to find passive candidates who may not be actively applying for job openings. AI algorithms identify professionals whose profiles align with specific job requirements, allowing recruiters to proactively engage with them. This approach expands the candidate pool and provides access to high-quality talent that may otherwise be missed in traditional hiring methods.
Data-Driven Decision Making: AI-driven analytics within LinkedIn Search provide recruiters with valuable insights and data to support informed decision-making. Recruiters can access metrics such as profile views, engagement rates, and candidate response rates. These analytics enable recruiters to evaluate the effectiveness of their sourcing strategies, optimize job postings, and tailor their outreach efforts to improve candidate engagement.
Conclusion:
LinkedIn Search, empowered by AI technologies, has become an indispensable tool for talent acquisition. By harnessing the power of AI, recruiters can expand their talent pool, enhance precision in candidate selection, engage with passive candidates, and make data-driven decisions. Leveraging AI in LinkedIn Search not only streamlines the recruitment process but also allows organizations to connect with top talent more efficiently and effectively. As AI continues to advance, it is imperative for recruiters and organizations to embrace these powerful tools, adapt their strategies, and stay ahead in the competitive landscape of talent acquisition. By harnessing the power of AI in LinkedIn Search, recruiters can uncover hidden gems and make impactful hires that drive organizational success.

I spent over a year job searching, applied for over 700 positions, did 20 interviews, and just recently landed a position last month. For everyone out there searching for a job, here’s what you need to do to get the interview, and get the job:
How to Get the Interview
1. You need two types of resumes, and personalize each resume for each application.
Type 1: AI Version
ONLY send this version if you know it will be viewed by an Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) - Workday, ADP, basically any hiring-related form that's displayed on a company's website.
ATS can't see the layout of your resume, so they rely entirely on information. Your AI resume should be entirely information focused and keyword optimized for each position you apply for. One good way to optimize for keywords is to copy a job application into ChatGPT and ask it to act as an Applicant Tracking System, review the job post, and highlight the top 15 keywords you need to include in a job application for that position. Since AIs like data, it really doesn't matter how long your AI version is or how it looks - more info is better than less. Also, don't use tables, ATS can't analyze anything in a table effectively.
Type 2: Human Version
With the "human" version of your resume you want to optimize it for humans to read. Make it pop. Maybe check out Canva (I design my human resumes in Canva).
Seeing as this one is only going to be viewed by humans (not AI), prioritize page 1 and go deeper on page 2. Brief and bright on page 1, then jam packed with relevant experience, stats, and results on page 2. Give them a reason to look at that second page.
For both AI and Human resumes you need to personalize your resume to every single job you apply for - I've even gone to the extent of copying responsibilities directly from a job description and listing them (nearly word for word) under my experience in past roles where relevant.
2. Use bullet points, not sentences.
The key to optimizing for both ATS and people is to use bullet points. People can analyze bullet points much faster than sentences. Because of the flood of applicants hiring managers are getting right now (thanks to AI application systems and automation), once you get to the point where a human looks at your resume, they need to see exactly what they're looking for in a matter of seconds or they're going to pass. Bullets points make it easy to find exactly what they’re looking for.
3. Only apply through email or websites.
Across the 738 applications I did, 26% of the applications I sent via a direct email resulted in an interview. For comparison, 10% of applications via a company's website resulted in an interview, 5% of applications on Indeed/Glassdoor, and 0% of applications through LinkedIn, Recruiters, and other sites.
Even if there isn't an HR email address clearly displayed on their hiring page or in the job description, see if you can find a direct line to their hiring team elsewhere on the website. Usually the job description mentions where to contact if you need reasonable accommodations - so try that.
4. LinkedIn is your best way to prove you're real (but DO NOT apply for jobs on LinkedIn).
Seeing as hiring managers need to confirm the applicant they're looking at isn't a bot, they tend to rely on LinkedIn. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is as filled out as possible, including identifying/tagging skills for all your past positions. It helps to have some recent posts on your feed as well. And don’t forget to include a link to your LinkedIn on your resume!
5. Glassdoor and Indeed are your best way for finding jobs that are hiring.
While only 5% of applications through Indeed/Glassdoor turned into an interview, nearly 11% of jobs I found posted on Glassdoor/Indeed turned into an interview across all methods of outreach (email, website, etc.). For comparison, LinkedIn = 0%, Recruiters = 0%, and all other sources combined = 8%.
6. Apply for jobs on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
Based on a TikTok I saw, most hiring managers post jobs on Mondays, leave them open through mid-day Tuesday, analyze applicants Wednesday and Thursday, and repost positions on Fridays if they haven't found a good candidate. Mirror this timeline when applying for jobs - review newly posted Glassdoor and Indeed positons on Monday morning, apply for jobs Monday afternoon/evening, do a few more Tuesday morning, then focus on other things until Friday. Apply Friday and if you have time over the weekend then apply over the weekend too.
Only apply through Glassdoor or Indeed if you can't find an email or a way to apply on their website.
The proof:
The first half of 2023 I applied to 350 positions solely through LinkedIn and Indeed and only landed 1 interview. After that I started tracking and changing things, applied for another 137 jobs, and landed about 3 interviews. At the start of 2024 I used my findings from that applicant tracking process to change some more things and over the past 251 applications this year I've landed 16 interviews. I was just hired this past July.
How to Get the Job
You’ve got an interview, great! Now how do you get the job?
1. Research the position and the company.
During your interview you are guaranteed to get asked some variation of “What attracted you to this company/position?” - this is the most important question to prepare for because it shows you understand what the business does and what you will be doing in this role from a high level perspective. Check out their website, peruse the About Us page, and fully read the job description that you probably just skimmed when you originally applied.
2. Research the interviewer.
People don’t work for companies they work for people. If the person interviewing you feels like they can connect with you, there’s a much greater chance you’ll move to the next round of interviews and (hopefully) get the job. Thanks to LinkedIn (and social media in general) it’s easier than ever to get some background information about the person interviewing you, and find areas you can connect on during the interview. Do your research.
3. Identify common questions they could ask and prepare STAR answers.
If you take some time to think through potential questions an interviewer could ask, you’re much less likely to get caught off guard and/or sound ignorant during your interview. A shortcut for this process is to go upload everything you can gather about the job/company to ChatGPT (job description, About Us page, etc.) and ask it for a couple questions the interviewer might ask. It can even help you develop responses too - just don’t rely on it too much otherwise you’ll risk sounding like everyone else.
As humans we really like stories. Whenever possible, try to incorporate a story that relates a previous experience to whatever question the interviewer asked. A good method for incorporating a story while still answering the interviewer’s question is to use the STAR method:
Situation: Set the scene and give the necessary details of your example.
Task: Describe what your responsibility was in that situation.
Action: Explain exactly what steps you took to address it.
Result: Share what outcomes your actions achieved.
Generally the STAR responses method works best for behavioral questions that start with phrases like “tell me about a time when you…” or “have you ever…” or “give me an example of…”
It can also save you some time if you I’m
4. Develop 3+ questions for them.
“Any questions?” is actually the second most important question you will be asked, because it gives you the opportunity to direct the conversation. DO NOT waste this opportunity by just asking about parking. Prepare your questions ahead of time, and make them relevant to the position. This shows you did your research, you care about this opportunity, and most importantly it can give you insights that other candidates won’t have, better preparing you for the next interview. A few questions I recommend are:
What can I expect the rest of this interview process to look like?
Are there any gaps in my skill set that you see that we haven’t already addressed today? (ask at the end of the interview)
Why are you bringing on this role now?
Tell me about the opportunities for growth in this position.
In your mind, what is the most important factor you’re looking at when gauging the fit for applicants in this role?
Also, make sure you have different questions for each round of the interview process. Use each opportunity to pick up more information about the role and the people you’ll be interviewing with to better prepare you for the next round.
Good luck everyone!

The Art of the Resume: How to Make Yours Stand Out in 2025

Introduction
Your resume is often the first impression you make on a potential employer, and in 2025, standing out from the crowd has never been more important. With increasing competition, evolving hiring trends, and AI-driven applicant tracking systems (ATS), a well-crafted resume can make or break your job search.
In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the art of resume writing in 2025, highlighting essential elements, design trends, ATS compatibility, and strategic content that will help you secure interviews and land your dream job.
1. Understanding Resume Trends in 2025
The job market is dynamic, and resumes have evolved significantly. Here are some key trends shaping resumes in 2025:
AI and ATS Optimization: Many companies use AI-powered ATS to filter resumes. Optimizing your resume with the right keywords and format is crucial.
Skills-Based Hiring: Employers focus more on skills rather than job titles. A strong skills section is essential.
Personal Branding: Resumes now reflect a personal brand, with storytelling elements that make candidates memorable.
Digital and Interactive Resumes: Some industries favor online portfolios, video resumes, and multimedia elements.
Concise, Scannable Formats: Recruiters skim resumes quickly, so clarity and organization matter more than ever.
2. Crafting a Standout Resume: Essential Elements
To craft a winning resume, you must include essential sections while ensuring clarity, readability, and effectiveness.
A. Contact Information
Your contact details should be clear and easy to find. Include:
Full Name
Phone Number
Professional Email Address
LinkedIn Profile (if applicable)
Personal Website or Portfolio (for creative fields)
B. Professional Summary
A well-written summary should be a snapshot of your skills, experience, and unique value. Example:
"Results-driven marketing professional with 7+ years of experience in digital strategy, SEO, and content marketing. Proven track record of increasing brand visibility by 150% and leading cross-functional teams. Passionate about data-driven decision-making and innovative storytelling."
C. Skills Section
A strong skills section highlights your core competencies. Categorize them if needed:
Hard Skills:
SEO & Digital Marketing
Python & SQL
UX/UI Design
Financial Analysis
Soft Skills:
Leadership
Communication
Problem-Solving
Project Management
D. Work Experience
List your jobs in reverse chronological order with impact-driven bullet points.
Example: Digital Marketing Manager | XYZ Corp | 2021-Present
Led a content strategy that boosted organic traffic by 200% in one year.
Managed a $500K ad budget, improving ROI by 40%.
Implemented AI-powered automation, increasing productivity by 25%.
E. Education & Certifications
Include your degree(s), institution names, and graduation years. Add relevant certifications to show ongoing learning.
Example:
B.A. in Business Administration, University of California, 2018
Google Analytics Certification, 2024
F. Additional Sections (Optional, but Valuable)
Projects & Achievements: Highlight major projects or independent work.
Volunteer Work: Demonstrates social responsibility.
Publications & Speaking Engagements: Showcases thought leadership.
Languages & Technical Skills: Especially useful for global and tech roles.
3. Designing Your Resume for Maximum Impact
A. Choose the Right Format
Chronological: Best for traditional career paths.
Functional: Ideal for career changers or those with employment gaps.
Hybrid: Combines both and is great for most professionals.
B. Resume Length
1 page for early-career professionals.
2 pages for mid-career professionals.
3 pages for executives or specialists.
C. Font and Layout
Use professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Georgia.
Keep font size between 10-12pt.
Use bullet points for readability.
Ensure proper spacing and margins.
D. Visual Enhancements
Add subtle color accents for modern appeal.
Use icons to enhance readability.
Include a headshot only if it’s industry-appropriate.
4. ATS Optimization: Beating the Resume Bots
A. Use Standard Formatting
Avoid graphics, tables, or unusual fonts that ATS may not read.
Save in Word or PDF format (unless specified otherwise).
B. Include Keywords
Extract keywords from job descriptions and integrate them naturally.
Example: If a job listing mentions “data analysis,” ensure it appears in your skills and experience sections.
C. Avoid Overuse of Buzzwords
Instead of generic phrases like “team player” or “hard worker,” use measurable achievements.
5. Writing Tailored Resumes for Specific Roles
Customizing your resume increases your chances of landing interviews. Tailor it by:
Aligning skills and achievements with the job description.
Using industry-specific language to resonate with recruiters.
Emphasizing transferable skills if changing careers.
6. Digital & Interactive Resume Options
Beyond the traditional resume, consider digital enhancements:
Online Portfolios: Essential for creatives, developers, and marketers.
Video Resumes: Growing in popularity for client-facing roles.
LinkedIn Optimization: Recruiters actively search for candidates on LinkedIn.
7. Common Resume Mistakes to Avoid
Spelling and Grammar Errors: Proofread multiple times or use tools like Grammarly.
Generic Templates: Avoid overused formats; personalize your design.
Lack of Metrics: Quantify achievements (e.g., “Increased revenue by 30%” instead of “Improved sales”).
Too Much or Too Little Information: Find a balance—concise but informative.
Conclusion
In 2025, the art of resume writing is about blending traditional best practices with modern trends. Your resume should reflect your personal brand, showcase measurable achievements, and be optimized for both human recruiters and ATS systems. By following these strategies, you’ll create a compelling, high-impact resume that stands out in today’s competitive job market.
Now, it’s time to refine your resume and take your career to the next level!

Engage in LinkedIn groups related to your field.
3. Understanding C2C vs W2 for OPT Jobs
Many international students come across C2C vs W2 job terms. Understanding the differences is crucial:
C2C (Corp-to-Corp): Requires working through a third-party consulting company. Ideal for students with existing employer sponsorships.
W2: Direct employment with a company. Taxes are withheld by the employer. Often preferred for OPT jobs.
Transitioning from OPT Job to H1B Job in the USA
Many students on OPT jobs aim to transition to an H1B job in the USA. Here’s how:
1. Find H1B-Sponsoring Employers
Employers that sponsor H1B visas usually:
Have a history of sponsoring international students
Are willing to file H1B petitions for talented candidates
Post jobs on sites like MyVisaJobs and H1BGrader
2. Apply Early
The H1B lottery process begins in March each year.
Secure an OPT job with an employer willing to sponsor your H1B.
Keep an eye on H1B cap-exempt employers (e.g., universities and research institutions).
3. Maintain Status & Plan for STEM OPT Extension
If you are in a STEM field, you can apply for a STEM OPT extension (additional 24 months).
Keep track of your work authorization timeline to avoid status violations.
Common Challenges & How to Overcome Them
International students often face challenges while applying for OPT jobs. Here’s how to tackle them:
1. Limited Job Offers Due to Work Authorization
Apply to companies that have a history of hiring OPT candidates.
Mention "OPT EAD Holder" in your resume to clarify work authorization.
2. Lack of Interview Calls
Improve your LinkedIn profile and get recommendations.
Use resume keywords that match job descriptions.
Apply through networking and referrals, not just job portals.
3. H1B Sponsorship Challenges
Start job hunting early in your OPT period.
Target employers familiar with the H1B process.
Consider alternative visa options like O-1, EB-2 NIW, or L1 if H1B is not an option.
Conclusion
Finding the right OPT job for international students requires strategy, persistence, and access to the right OPT portals like OPTNation and Indeed. By understanding C2C vs W2, networking effectively, and planning for an H1B job in the USA, international students can successfully navigate their career paths.
