Tumblr media
out of uniform: sorry for not being around too much during the weekend. in regards to the post i made to explain some things, i decided to venture down memory lane, so to speak, about an incident mentioned in that post that i feel like the authors of the callout made about me thought that i was the sole person responsible for said incident when i wasn't. others also participated in the mess, so they are also at fault here. so this is my attempt to set things straight.
i'll discuss it further under the cut.
I've spent the past weekend combing through posts in relation to in 2011 where I've been accused of accusing someone of being a rapist, which turned out to be a false identification on someone else's part. Now, none of this is to absolve me of my involvement in the matter by trying to gather what information I could on the accused. It's here that I was, and I quote, a "dumbass plurk witch hunter" by participating in these two long-deleted plurks that, to my knowledge, have no archive elsewhere (Pastebin wasn't as commonly used back then to archive plurks for evidence down the line, and I have no idea how to search through that site to see if it's still archived, especially since the person could have set an expiration timer on it.) Again, this is just so that I can set things straight to where I wasn't the sole person responsible for this mess back in 2011.
This is the thread where I, and other people, were called a "dumbass plurk witch hunter" (playagame is one of my very old plurk accounts that has a lot of shit on it that I wish I never put out there) and the very last comment on the thread was from me saying that I did send him a PM to apologize. Evidence of this apology, though, was deleted by LiveJournal themselves because I know that I tend to not mass delete things, even if they're years old at this point. I also confirmed again, this time on my very old plurk account, that I had sent him an apology. (Please disregard the last comment I, as FREE☠JOKER made there since at the time, I had the emotional sympathy of a dumbass.) For even further proof that I apologized to him, here's a cap I took of my archived LJ post hosted on my Dreamwidth account. I am also still trying to log in to my Dropbox account where I at least have the conversation saved from Trillian and not LiveJournal.
This is the extent of my involvement where I tried to dig up information on him, but I was not the one who made the very false connection between him and the TC in question. This is from a private conversation I had with one of my friends that has known me since I was a cringy ass preteen who thought they knew everything about the world when, in fact, I knew nothing. If you'd like the full conversation for full context, then I don't mind providing it.
However, I did find these two posts from an account, whyljrpwhy, that is veritably not mine by a long shot. Whenever I made a new account, I tended to use keywords for my icons like these while whyljrpwhy uses keywords like these for their icons. That, and I've never had the email [email protected] before. I've normally used AOL, Yahoo, or Gmail for pretty much everything.
This originally was hosted on tumblr in the form of these PSAs: (this one has the link to the fandomsecrets post where the warning was crossposted here.) In the thread itself, you'll see where whyljrpwhy had some supremely bad takes in general for the whole situation that they were rightfully called out for, even when speaking to the TC that had been falsely accused of something as serious as this.
Once again, this post in no way absolves me of what I did back in 2011. I fully acknowledge what I did was wrong by trying to gather information on an individual that had nothing in common with the person being warned about, only that they both shared the alias TC. I've since tried, and still do try, my best to be the best person I can and learn from my mistakes.
Thank you, once again, for reading this post. Hopefully this is the last time I need to address this.

Why The Normalization of Stan Culture is Unhealthy
How a tweet about Ariana Grande made me realize the extent of harm this subculture has done.
Haaniyah Angus
FollowJan 27
The way in which pop culture is consumed in the 2010s is unlike anything else we have witnessed since the dawn of pop culture itself. Social media has created a hyperreality wherein the distance between regular individuals and their idols is slowly shortening, or at least appearing to. This is most obviously seen within ‘stan Twitter’, a section of Twitter dedicated to celebrities even to the most harmful lengths.
I want to make myself clear here: I don’t hate stans or stan Twitter. Throughout my teenage years, I was part of this subculture in various ways, whether it be K-Pop, One Direction, Justin Bieber, 5SOS and — ironically enough — Ariana Grande. Through ‘standoms’ I was able to meet people and make friends in a way I couldn’t in real life. I felt as if I were part of a community, that I finally belonged. But, as I got older, I realized the obsession I had wasn’t healthy, and thats why I worry about the direction that many young people seem to be heading in. Their dedication to strangers in order to boost their own self-esteem feels almost like a car crash ready to happen and, for some, it already has.
But, though this is undoubtedly a phenomenon of the social media era, in order to understand what stan Twitter is and its origin, we need to travel back to a time before Twitter even existed.
Currently, on Urban Dictionary, a stan is defined as an overzealous maniacal fan for any celebrity or athlete, stemming from Eminem’s 2002 hit, Stan. In the video, Stan wants Eminem to make contact with him but Eminem doesn’t reply to his letters and, due to this, Stan thinks he has been ignored. As revenge, Stan ties up his own girlfriend, stows her in his trunk, drives along a rain-soaked highway and drives off a bridge. Eminem gets around to responding and says how thankful he is for the support, only to understand that Stan is obsessed with him and then, finally, to connect the dots and realize that he’s the man who killed his girlfriend.
What many psychological professionals would describe this as is a parasocial relationship. This is not a made up disorder nor an armchair diagnosis, but simply the definition to a relationship many people have with famous figures. Parasocial relationships are one-sided dynamics in which energy, interest and time are extended towards the object of obsession whilst they (commonly a celebrity) remain ignorant of the existence of the other.
But, though critics and think piece writers often frame them as a symptom of young people’s generational rot, behaviours such as this are not new in the slightest. Before the boom of social media, obsessive fans had existed for a long, long time — such as during the Roman reign, where people collected gladiators’ sweat out of admiration; or the Victorian era, when hordes of fans forced author Arthur Conan Doyle to revive his star character, Sherlock Holmes. The Beatles had a superfan plotting to murder John Lennon, Michael Jackson had to prove that he didn’t impregnate a stalker, and Uma Thurman received a card from a fan that had a drawing of an open grave, a headstone and a man standing on the edge of a razor blade.
This is not an exclusively Western phenomenon either. In Korea, this type of idolatry exists heavily within the K-Pop industry. Sasaeng fans are over-obsessive fans of musical idols, to the point that they engage in stalking. According to Yahoo Lifestyle, Korean idols have been filmed, had their phones wiretapped, and even had fans breaking into their homes.
What makes this new era of ‘stalker fans’ different, in my opinion, is the admiration that seems to be growing towards such behaviours. Today, even as a joke, the terminology of ‘stalker fan’ or ‘stan’ has been the latest object of amelioration — where a word’s negative meaning is elevated to a positive one.
Last year when culture writer Wanna Thompson received a hateful DM from rapper Nicki Minaj and decided to share it, the following backlash shone a light for many in regards to this behaviour. Minaj clapped back at a comment Thompson had made on her Twitter account and Thompson brought it to her timeline, shocked that a celebrity of that magnitude could do such a thing. According to an interview with the New York Times, Wanna received hateful messages via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and even email; including insults to her infant daughter and suicide bait. The majority of these hateful words came from stans, who seemed to have a soldier-like sense of duty to protect Minaj. It was as if they would do anything for their idol.
Though Wanna and Nicki’s beef was recent and particularly notorious, one could pick any of all the major stan groups and they’d find that they all exhibit this need to protect their idols from critique, even when it is valid. Which brings me to the point of this article.
We need to talk about Ariana Grande.
It was last week when Grande released her song ‘7 Rings’ and, as a longtime fan of the 25-year-old star, I was ecstatic. I loved the song and felt like she was finally blossoming into the artist she could always be. That was until it was rightfully pointed out to me that Ariana was walking along a tightrope that many young white pop stars toe — and often fall off of. Like many ex-child stars before her, Ariana was rebelling against her ‘good girl’ image by appropriating Black culture.
As stated by writer Erin Dyana:
Viewing her 7 Rings video after seeing her come up in real time throughout the years has left a bizarre taste in my mouth and I’m not sure if there’s anything that can cleanse my palate of it. The video has quite literally glamorized a trap house (something she wouldn’t know anything about) while she raps in an airy voice about buying weave, being rich, and having a “stacked” ass (a lie). These lyrics and visuals aren’t fitting and belong to a Black woman, period. It’s inauthentic and corny to me that she felt the need to cherry pick from Black culture to make something that’ll sell and get clicks.
As much as I love Grande, I couldn’t ignore this issue, which has plagued Black culture for years. The more I listened to 7 Rings, the more I understood why it made people, specifically Black women uncomfortable. While I wasn’t the most damning critic of Grande’s song, I immediately got pushback for suggesting that those who dislike it weren’t in the wrong. Historically white pop stars have been able to cross genres (pop to trap, in Grande’s case) while Black singers haven’t.
I was noticing that anytime someone dared speak about Grande, they were silenced by her fans and stans alike, even though some of the people criticizing Ariana might have disliked her already, or been indifferent to her, many of us truly loved her music. Though stan Twitter might have you thinking otherwise, critical consumption doesn’t negate enjoyment. I and many others are perfectly able to spot the problematic aspects of music, writing and film whilst still having fun with it. Critical thinking only makes our experience richer, and definitely doesn’t mean that we hate an artist for making mistakes.
The drama culminated when people noticed that Ariana herself was liking tweets defending 7 Rings, its music video and the genre choice. I find that, when celebrities try to defend themselves against valid critiques such as cultural appropriation, it does more harm than good. This self-victimization causes the stans to be even more defensive and thus lash out against anyone critiquing their idol. Grande seemingly felt attacked or felt that these critics — mainly Black women — were harassing her. Her fans didn’t just internalize those feelings as their own but, of course, felt the need to defend Ariana by attacking anyone who dared criticize her.
I probably wouldn’t be paying as much attention to this if I hadn’t been also a victim of the harassment her stans were dishing out online. What sparked it, you may ask! I had simply tweeted a ‘judgemental’ reaction image in response to Ariana’s Instagram story. In it, it seemed that someone had jokingly written in their Insta-story: You like my hair? Gee, thanks just bought it” *kissing emoji*!!!! white women talking about their weaves is how we’re going to solve racism. Grande then proceeded to repost that story, thanking the OP for praise, even though it was clearly a mockery of that line.
As I mentioned earlier, I’d already gotten pushback from Ariana’s stans, and I didn’t care if people got mad at me. I would have continued on not caring but, after that tweet started circulating, it got to a point where my direct messages started blowing up with fans threatening me and telling me to delete it or else. I didn’t pay them any mind since I felt that there was no reason to take their threats seriously. However, come the next morning I woke and saw that my Twitter account had been suspended. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I had been falsely reported by stans in order to get the tweet taken down.
You see, Twitter’s reporting system is beyond repair. Reports are evaluated by algorithms, making it ridiculously easy for abusive accounts to skirt suspension by misspelling slurs, and even easier for ill-intentioned people to ‘game’ the system by mass-reporting innocent users. I only got a tenth of the backlash that Thompson received from Minaj fans and yet my Twitter account, a platform on which I had built a following of 12,000 and which held contacts throughout various industries was gone. Not only that but, once I tweeted on my new account that I had been suspended unfairly, stans started to mock me and say that I deserved it for posting that tweet. A tweet that simply reacted to a foolish post of Grande’s — which, mind you, she acknowledged as such and took down.
But why do these things happen? Why do hordes of fans maliciously attack critics? Why do ‘stans’ behave in such an obsessive manner? Some say that social media is to blame and that isn’t a completely ludicrous view. As stated earlier, stans existed long before the age of the Internet, but the anonymity and the mass reach of social media allow their harassment and stalking to be extremely harmful while sheltering them from consequences. You can’t get a restraining order against an anonymous person who could use various accounts to stalk you. If stans are harassing those critiquing their favourite celebrity, blocks may prove futile, as they could make uncountable new accounts, and online harassment may continue until the aggressors get bored or the target finally gives in and deletes their account, whatever happens first.
I want to be positive when it comes to stans, I want to say hey! let these kids do what they want and oh, they’ll grow out of it, but I’m worried it may be too late. These stans have projected their own self-esteem issues and insecurities upon celebrities that make them feel whole. I know this because I did this, and many of my friends did this. Maybe obsessive fanaticism is an inescapable part of growing up, and maybe stans will come across this article and drag me for it. They will say that I’m being extra and that I just want clicks but — while I do want clicks, that’s why we’re all here, right? — I am genuinely worried. What was seen as fringe behaviour before — the invasion of privacy, obsessive fantasies, aggression and possessiveness, absolute disregard for others’ wellbeing — seems to be expected now in order to be “a true fan”. I’m worried that this has become the new norm for celebrity culture, and that the popularization of ‘standom’ has cemented this behaviour for years to come.

Man I just wanna enjoy making gifs and graphics and Tumblr does this c0pyright bs stuff :////
I feel your plight, I really do, but this is more than just copyright violation fiasco, or as people started calling it the snappening aka blogpocolyspe aka fuck everything, let’s move to Pillowfort.
First of all, let’s examine why what’s happening is happening: Blog are being deleted because of DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) violations — supposedly, people get take down notices via email with a three strike policy, but I’ve heard some blogs were terminated without warning. Agency sites have been using a third-party software, Okularity [ Our entire team is based in Los Angeles, California. We’ve spent over seven years perfecting software designed to accurately and reliably find, match, and ultimately secure your likeness, images, photography, and video at little cost to you. We’re your image experts and we’re passionate about valuing your content and likeness as much as you do. ] which reserve-searches images and identifies edits on tumblr, which are then taken down by staff and results in blog termination as a way of tumblr to protect itself from getting bombarded with copyright infringement lawsuits.
Second of all, let’s examine why photographers and agencies are filling copyright complaints. We all raise arms when people slight artists and steal their work, when gifs made by gifmakers are ‘found on google’ and reposted, when people plagiarise fanfiction — these are infringements on our intellectual property. Logic stands, we should also understand and care why agencies file copyright complaints; they are protecting their livelihoods. (Moral grey area of how paparazzi photos in themselves are a violation of privacy aside.) Except, we clearly don’t care. Why? Because it doesn’t concern us directly. These photographers are abstract concepts which threaten our blogs and their existence, so we choose not to give to craps about them. Which is fair, and someone pointed out it’s hypocritical, but it’s more complicated than that. There are no good answers to this part of the argument. At one hand, imagine if you were one of these photographers and your livelihood was infringed upon like this. On the other hand, there’s a great big fucking difference between artists demanding big companies stop exploiting them and stealing their ideas; and blogs being terminated because tumblr is afraid of loosing money to lawsuits. It’s an underdog scenario, and we’re the underdogs, clearly rooting for ourselves.
(TL;DR: Copyright laws are a fucking nightmare. We both need them and detest them because they can be exploited by entities with deep pockets. Don’t come @ me, but Copyright Laws of South Korea are the fucking worst and easily exploitable and that’s the tea.)
Third of all, there have been arguments that pictures that underwent editing change — change of dimensions, colouring, brightness, etc. — should be reviewed as transformative works and be protected by copyright same as gifs and YouTube videos are. My answer is this: Don’t ask me this, I have no idea. I’m a physicist, not a lawyer, much less one who specialises in copyright laws. Someone more knowledgeable than me needs to address this issue.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the thing I did want to talk about: Tumblr Staff.
Again, it’s obvious why tumblr is taking such firm action with these copyright violation notices than it does with anything else people on this platform have been bombarding them about for eons — MONEY. Lawsuits cost money and tumblr ain’t about that life.
This platform is riddled with white supremacists, pedophiles, porn blogs, and a variety of other Undesirables #1, who do way more damage to the platform in general, but they don’t cost tumblr the company anything so they are sleeping on them.
Not to mention the variety of shitty things about this app in general: from the glitches to the ineffective privacy settings, from the goddamn data-mining to the old urls being kept by non-active blogs. General upkeep on tumblr is very poor, -100000000/10, would not recommend.
Now, one can argue that one should dismarry the staff from the parent company. Maybe tumblr the platform is The Hobbit Trilogy; maybe Yahoo and Oath is the collective studio presence of Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, WingNut Film, The Saul Zaents Company, and even, ugh, The Weinstein Company; maybe the staff is Peter Jackson of this; maybe we’re all are just New Zealanders of this affair, and it will all end as badly for as The Hobbit Law had for New Zealand. Maybe I’m fucking reaching with my analogy. Who knows? Certainly not me.
[update: I’m not shading Peter Jackson, I’m shading the studios involved in the Hobbit movies. Peter Jackson fought to keep production in New Zealand, but the studios ultimately fucked New Zealanders over. The great The Hobbit issue isn’t about Peter Jackson, it’s about big companies throwing their weight around and profiting more out of exploitations of others.]
And why is that? Oh, yeah, because I’m not the goddamn staff. 99% of us aren’t. Everything that I say or you read by other bloggers isn’t 100% of the situation because we don’t know the full situation. Everything you read above and will see below I have extrapolated from my own research into the current situation, but again, I’m not the The Eye of Sauron, I don’t know everything. And why is that? Because the staff hasn’t released a fucking statement, hasn’t told us anything, it has just been turning this hellsite into the last 15 minutes of Infinity War and sowing mass-panic.
Now, not for me to tell @staff how to run their platform — except, no, I’m a user of this platform, and I’m issuing a complaint.
I admin a couple of discord servers and whenever we do anything, we put out announcements that we changed thing A and did thing B. If people are dissatisfied, they tell us their concerns and if they are reasonable, we change thing B to thing C to satisfy them. Now, tumblr is hella of a lot bigger than discord server of 300+ members, but at the same time, the staff isn’t composed of three admins and a handful of mods. My point is: Transparency is paramount. Even as an administrator you do things that people won’t like, you gotta go and tell them you’re doing them so they’ll be aware of what the fuck is going on.
Ignorance breeds fear which breeds mass-panic. And what do we have currently on tumblr? A fucking epidemic of fear.
So tumblr is might be threaten with copyright infringement lawsuits, so they are taking actions to protect themselves from that by issuing copyright violation notices and terminating blogs. Okay, we don’t like it, but even if we don’t, tumblr should have told us about it instead of acting like a ghoul in the night, snatching blogs out of their cribs, and terminating them.
Tumblr should have issued a statement telling us what was happening, what should we do and how can we avoid termination, and what we should do to correct our behaviour and avoid being red-flagged. Generally, idk, tell us what the fuck they have been doing and why. Currently, all the information circling tumblr is gathered post-fact after blogs have been terminated and panic has spread. But what do I know? I’m just a dumbass with a computer, same as most of us. If we were any different, we’d be dumbasses on a mobile and on Twitter instead.
TL;DR: Ultimately, we’re being fucked over. This isn’t just about the latest copyright-prompted fiasco — there has been a long standing problem of how staff and the cooprorate overlords keep treating us like shit and we. keep. taking. it. It’s as if this is a humiliation, revenge-fantasy-fulfillment fic, but we’re the ones revenge is being executed upon.

How to get rid of spam emails
Spam mails, also called garbage mail, are excluded from mass sent email messages conveyed to an inbox. You likely get email spam and showcasing messages routinely. In any case, there's one contrast between a spam message and promoting message: authorization.
For the most part, real advertising messages are sent by organizations once you pick in to get them. They permit you to buy into a pamphlet, pursue administrations, read individuals just substance or offer messages using email and online media.
Spam messages frequently come from ill-conceived email addresses and may contain the express or unlawful substance. These messages frequently use alarm strategies, contain mistakes and misdirecting data, and are sent in mass from an unknown sender. They only sometimes contain a withdrawal interface, and if it does, that connection might be implanted with malware. This could prompt cybercriminals to access your PC, cell phone, and different gadgets.
There are approaches to assist with easing back the tide of undesirable messages. Thus, here are the five basic ways you can take to assist with disposing of spam messages.
1. Imprint as spam
Most email administrations, for example, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Microsoft Outlook, and Apple Mail have calculations that channel out spam and garbage mail by hiding them in an envelope.
However, on the off chance that you discover a spam email in your customary inbox, don't erase the message — mark it as spam. Denoting a dubious email as spam will send it to the spam organizer. Pushing ahead, if you get additional messages from this location, the spam channel will know not to give it access to your inbox.
Step by step instructions to stamp spam in Gmail
Snap-on the square close to the email → Click the stop sign symbol
Step by step instructions to stamp spam in Yahoo! Mail

There is a brilliant principle to managing spam messages: on the off chance that it seems as though a spam message, it most likely is — so erase it without clicking or downloading anything. Such messages might contain programming that tells the sender you've opened the email, affirming you have a functioning record, which might prompt much more spam messages.
Some malware projects can take your email address and use it to resend spam messages supposedly an authentic location. For instance, frauds could act like somebody you know, similar to a companion, relative, or associate.
If the message is referred to seems to come from somebody you know, reach them outside of your email.
The following are not many choices for erasing spam messages for great.
Instructions to erase spam from Gmail

At the point when you block spam messages, they're shipped off a spam organizer. Over the long haul, this organizer develops with the hailed messages. In this way, you'll need to once in a while void.
While not idiot-proof, the following are five critical components to search for in a dubious email.
Mentioning individual data
The sender demands your data like location, Social Security number, or banking data.
Sporadic email address
The email has a dubious area name or uses unprecedented characters in the location.
Obscure and new senders
Counterfeit messages from individuals acting like powerhouses, high-positioning authorities, or authentic organizations. These organizations might guarantee you've made buys when you haven't.
Messages that require prompt activity
These messages contain activity words like, "Prompt," "Restricted Time," and "Critical" in the title box or headline.
3. Keep your email address hidden
Email contains mistakes
Many phony messages will contain fundamental grammatical mistakes and blunders like the incorrect spelling of your name or have helpless syntax utilization.
Giving out your email address can build the measure of spam email you get. So in case, it's not vital to share, keep it hidden. Additionally, consider changing your email protection settings. Here's the ticket:

In the menu list, click My Account.
Snap-on the Privacy and Security choices to change the settings.
Apple Mail security settings
Snap the apple symbol in the upper left corner of the screen.
Snap-on System Preferences.
Snap-on the Security and Privacy alternative.
If you post via web-based media or leave online remarks, don't post your email. If you must choose between limited options, it may assist with making a different email address to be utilized exclusively for web-based media purposes, in this manner assisting with guaranteeing your primary email address stays private.
4. Utilize an outsider spam channel
Your email specialist co-op may have its channel however matching it with an outsider spam channel can give an extra layer of network protection. The messages will go through two spam channels to come to your inbox. So if it gets past one spam channel, the other should get it.
Compelling spam channels can ensure your gadgets are against malware dangers, assaults, and bothersome substances. Search for an enemy of spam channel that works with your email supplier and addresses your requirements.
5. Change your email address
If the spam continues to come in, it could mean your email address was uncovered in an information break. It very well may be difficult to forestall spam when cybercriminals have your data. One choice for this situation is to change your email address.
With free email administrations like Gmail, it's not difficult to make different records so you can restrict the spam that shows up in your essential inbox. Here's the secret:
Start by enrolling for another record with your present email administration.
Then, advise your contacts from your new record that you've changed email addresses.
At long last, explore the Settings area and add the new email address to advance approaching messages from your old record.
Instructions to add a sending address
After making another location, you might need to set it up so you get messages from your old location. You can do this by changing the sending settings.
Sending your email address permits you to refresh your contact data on all records attached to your unique email account. You can do it in four simple tasks:
In the old email account, go to the Settings alternative.
Snap the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
In the Add a sending address box, enter the new email address.
Snap "Next" to confirm the cycle.
Make certain to keep the two records open for a couple of months, so you can divert any leftover messages to the new record.
6. Withdraw from email records
Withdrawing from email records is an optimal method to stay under the radar. Advertisers frequently get your email address from online structures, web-based media, and scratching apparatuses, and buy your data from different organizations. In this way, the less you buy in it, the less these advertisers and spammers can discover your location.
The Federal Trade Commission requires organizations that send business or mass messages to agree with the CAN-SPAM Act. Started in 2003, the law helps set standards and necessities for messages sent; one of the principles is that organizations should consistently give data on how to quit their messages. Resistance with these guidelines can cost up to $43,280 in punishments from the FTC.
While the law doesn't keep advertisers from sending spam messages, it gives an approach to prevent them from filling your inbox. The following are two different ways to withdraw from individual and mass messages.
Instructions to withdraw from individual messages
Most showcasing messages will have withdrawal buttons at the lower part of the email. Some email customers, like Gmail, will likewise show a withdraw button up at the top close to the To: and From:
Instructions to withdraw from numerous messages
In the inbox search bar, type "Withdraw."
Snap the down bolt close to the container and snap on the Create Filter button.
Snap the Delete and Apply Filter to Matching Conversations boxes.
Summary
Spam mails also called garbage mail are excluded from Mass send email messages conveyed to an inbox. For the most part, real advertising messages are sent by organizations once you pick in to get them. Spam messages frequently come from ill-conceived mail addresses and may contain express or unlawful substance. Most email administration for example Gmail, Yahoo mail, Microsoft Outlook, and Apple mail have calculations that channel out spam and garbage made by hiding them in an envelope. There is a brilliant principle to managing spam messages on the off chance that it seems as though a spam message.

The first thing you need to do is, to resolve whatsapp account recovery issues, you need to change the password on your account. To do this, go to your account and click on "Settings". Under the General tab, click on Change. You will see a pop up box and a word document. Once you click on Change, you will see a drop down menu.
When the drop down menu appears, click on 'Change' and type in your new password. You will now be required to confirm your new password. You can also choose to replace your current password with a different one. Once you have done so, all you need to do is click on the Save button. It will take you just a few seconds to do so and when it does, it will completely change your password and you will be able to log in.
Another way to resolve complicated whatsapp account issues is by using a hacker. People can easily find and Hire Whatsapp Hacker online. This method involves using an illegal program that can get deep into your system. The hacker usually sends out a mass email to millions of people telling them that their computers are infected and that they need to buy a full version of windows in order to fix it. If you are using windows, this may work. However, there are better ways to do this.
I will begin by showing you how to get a working hacking program. I will not discuss software here, as that is beyond the scope of this article. There are many websites online that sell these programs for a price. I will however, talk about how you can gain access to a working password hacker. If you have been trying to resolve problems I need a Hacker for Whatsapp, then you know how frustrating it can be to get that program to work. It seems that once it's installed, it doesn't work.
What you need to do is change your password. Don't worry, you won't need to change the actual password. You will however, have to change the access code. Access code is what allows Yahoo to see what you did.
You will have to access the settings on your account. Right click on the profile that you created for Yahoo. Select "Change Access Code." Once you have done so, hit "Submit." If everything was able to work, you should now see a green check mark displayed on your screen.
This is good news, but you must know that it is only temporary. Your account will not be password protected forever. I recommend that you change your password. Once you do, you will be able to resolve the problem. When you change your password, you will have to re key your account so that it will match the one you just changed in the Help Menu.
If this does not work, the next thing you can do is to use Ad-Aware or Spybot. These are programs that will search through your entire account looking for any hidden files. If a file is found, it will either show you it will disappear. This way, you will be able to easily locate and delete the files that the hacker put in it.
If none of these methods helped you, the last option you can use is to hire a professional hacker. A hacker can easily break into your Yahoo account and get access to all of your personal information. Hiring a professional hacker can be very expensive, but it is the best option you have. A hacker can not only get access to your personal information, but he can also use that information to try and get you to buy things from his site. He can also use it to do transactions.
The easiest way to avoid getting hacked is to prevent it from happening. The best way to do this is to avoid giving the hackers access to your account. For example, never click on the download or purchase buttons from the Messenger application. Also, if you need to log into your account, you should go through the process by using your key and not typing in the key combinations yourself. By following these steps, you will greatly increase your chances of keeping your account safe.
Find Whatsapp Hacker for Hire Solution
A lot of people have asked this question - Is it safe to get whatsapp hacker for hire? Yes, there are ways to safely access private and confidential text messages on smartphones. However, the way we use our mobiles has also changed. We no longer exchange text messages only with our friends and family.
Nowadays, we want convenience. We want everything on the move with just a few presses on the screen. So if you think that you may get into some serious trouble, it is time to find a Whatsapp hacker for hire provider. In fact, there are many companies who are providing services that will help you hire such services so that you do not need to be worried about your mobile phone privacy at all times.
These days, we all are talking about leakages. Whether it is from the government or corporate, one thing we all know is that mobile phones are leaking information about us to third parties. A hacker can easily obtain your confidential and personal details and hack into your smartphone. With the right tool, he can also make unlimited calls and send texts to others. It may sound so bad but it really happens a lot.
The good news is that we have solutions for all these issues. There are companies that offer mobile security services such as leak detection, data protection and mobile phone hacking. They help you to hire experts and developers that will protect you from hackers. Plus, they also help you to monitor the activity going on your accounts and even prevent further leaks. Thus, it is really important that you hire them to keep you secure.
However, one thing you need to consider before you hire a hacker for your account is if they are experienced. It would be best if you are going to hire an experienced mobile security system hacker. Hackers will definitely have more advanced tools. That is why it is important that you hire someone who is well versed with mobile hacking and computer security. This way, if there is any kind of a leak, he can easily detect it. Otherwise, he will only cause annoyance to you and your family.
You can hire someone like a computer expert or a system hacker. Whatever you choose, just make sure that you hire someone who is experienced and knows the latest hacking methods. In fact, there are even companies that offer an entire range of services dedicated to ethical hackers. Hire someone with a proven track record.
If you do not know how to stop hackers in his tracks, do not hesitate to hire an expert. You should never rely on what a simple message says. It may say it is an error message, but it could be a hacker's way of getting into your account. Therefore, it is very important to hire someone who knows everything about account hacking.
When it comes to phone hacking ethical hackers are way ahead of the regular guys. That is why they are called ethical hackers. Unlike regular guys, they are much better at their job. Unlike regular guys, they can work even when they are stuck at home. When it comes to the most recent mobile device security threats, mobile penetration testing is one of the best solutions. Thus, if you want to secure your business, hire whatsapp hacker.
There are many ways for you to get the full details about the hacker that is trying to get into your account. You can hire a private investigator (although a lot of private investigators say that they will charge you a lot), or you can buy a PC based program to help you. But in both cases, you will still have to hire a hacker to penetrate your mobile devices.
Hackers have always been there and they are present today. The internet is loaded with examples of hackers that have worked their way into highly secured accounts. So how do you protect your account from these guys? By hiring an experienced hacker to perform mobile PC security testing. Hire someone who can perform tests on different mobile platforms (iphone, windows, Blackberry, etc.)
The test he will do on your system will help you find weak spots in your security testing suite. It will help you fix any bugs so that you can continue to use your mobile app. He will also be able to detect malware so that you can get rid of it. Plus, if there is a hacker that got into your system, he can help you fix it so that you can continue using your app without worrying about your private information getting into the wrong hands.

13 Effective Email Marketing Tips
Have you ever sent an email to clients only to get no response? Did they even open it? Or open it just to delete it? Maybe you don’t even know where your campaigns are going wrong. Have no fear, our Email Marketing Tips are here.
We’ve all received an email we immediately deleted, marked as spam, or ignored altogether. If this is happening to your emails, you need to understand why. Maybe you aren’t effectively grabbing your audience’s attention. Or perhaps your subject lines don’t reach out and say “Open me!” or your calls to action don’t scream “Click me!”
As long as you aren’t heartlessly spamming your subscriber lists, email marketing is an incredibly powerful tool for getting messages directly to your clients and prospects. It strengthens client relationships and keeps reminding your prospects to reach out to you. So, let’s discuss how you can improve your efforts. First, let’s review the types of emails you might send:
Marketing emails
These are usually informational or promotional messages sent to people who asked you to keep them updated, such as prospects, clients, reporters, vendors, affiliates, etc. Marketing emails encompass a variety of content, but most are used to send newsletters, sales promotions, announcements, press releases, follow-ups, and surveys.
Transactional emails
This type of email is usually automated and triggered by your customers’ activities. Examples of transactional emails include welcome messages, order tracking, received payments, registration confirmations, etc.
Don’t underestimate the potential of these messages. If you’ve sent a customer a transactional email, they’ve completed at least one action that indicates they’re very likely to engage with you again. These are trusted emails, which means they have higher open rates and provide plenty of opportunities for engagement and cross-selling.
Operational emails
These are emails with important information about your business, such as holiday closures, maintenance plans, or changes to your service availability. It’s tempting to skip an operational email if you think it won’t impact your sales, but it’s important to be consistent for the sake of trust, engagement, and thoroughness.
Again, there’s also hidden value in these messages. Although they may seem strictly informative, they can be crafted to improve your sales and your image. For example, if your service will be down for maintenance, describing what kind of updates you’ll be performing is a great way to remind your clients of the value you provide.
Whatever emails you're sending, it’s critical that you consider what you’re trying to accomplish and structure your message and strategy accordingly. Here a few tips that guarantee success:
How To Send Marketing Emails Like A Pro
1.  Build your subscriber list
2.  Encourage readers to reply
3.  Make it personal
4.  Keep your emails out of spam folders
5.  Make sure your emails look clean and crisp
6.  Include interesting links and calls to action
7.  Build your subscriber list
8.  Encourage readers to reply
9.  Make it easy to unsubscribe
10.              Make emails mobile-friendly
11.              Test, test, test
12.              More testing!
13.              Track your data
1. Build your subscriber list
Even if you’ve already got a long list of emails for clients and prospects, you should never stop adding to it. Especially since it’s not nearly as hard as it sounds. For example, make sure your list is always growing passively with a signup feature on your website. Subscription forms should be on your home page, blog page and everywhere else you can fit it without taking away from more important content.
Digital Fire does a great job of collecting email subscribers on their home page, which includes a sign-up box that hovers over the page and follows users as they scroll. It’s impossible to miss (without being annoying) and plainly explains the value of subscribing to their email list.
You can also build your list through more traditional means. If you have a booth at an industry conference, provide an option for people to sign up for your newsletter. Even if you don’t end up closing at sale directly at the conference, getting someone to sign up for your email list can turn into a business opportunity down the road.
2. Encourage readers to reply
Unlike direct mail, email marketing opens the door for meaningful conversations with real people interested in your business. Just throwing information to leads and clients is a waste of time, so make sure you always focus on these three variables:
1.  Irresistible subject lines – Speak to readers directly and promise them something that stands out from the other emails in their inbox. The best way to go about this is with automated solutions that personalize your emails (which we’ve written about in depth).
2.  An entertaining and distinctive voice – Just because readers open your email doesn’t mean they aren’t queued up to quickly delete it. Always make sure your message sounds like it came from a real person who cares, not some faceless marketing machine.
3.  Targeted content – Segmenting your email lists by reader demographics makes it easier to create a message that really resonates with your readers' needs and interests, which makes them more likely to take up an offer, engage with you, or even to pass it onto other prospective clients.
The focus of these points is to encourage recipients to respond. Sometimes that means they click on a link in your message, but whenever possible, encourage them to actually respond to your emails. That's a surefire way to show you’re interested and responsive to what your subscribers have to say.
3. Make it personal
Whenever possible, add a personal element to your emails. Most email tools allow you to enter shortcodes that will be replaced with the recipient’s name when the email is sent out. Emails from Treehouse Co-Founder Ryan are always fun and personal. The subject lines are creative, messages are sent "from" Ryan's email address, and the content is personalized. If you reply to the mail, you'll even get a prompt response from Ryan himself!
On top of this, you can segment your messages to particular portions of your audience. If you have a business that works with multiple industries, consider sending out different versions of your email with each one providing information specific to each industry.
4. Keep your emails out of spam folders
If your carefully constructed emails are flagged as spam, they’ll never see the light of day. Start off by making sure your recipients have opted into your emails so you aren't running afoul of any regulations like the CAN-SPAM Act.
Beyond that, avoid using all caps, too many exclamation marks, and hyperbolic phrases ("ACT NOW BEFORE TIME RUNS OUT!!!!"). Poorly formatted HTML in your emails can also hurt how they’re handled. Every spam filter is different, so an email might pass through one filter but get flagged by another. For more comprehensive info on how spam filters work and how to avoid them, check out this guide by MailChimp.
5. Make sure your emails look clean and crisp
This sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people send emails that look like amateur websites from the ’90s. If someone has opened your mail because of an engaging heading, you want to keep their interest. This means:
·         Using short paragraphs and ensuring that keywords and phrases relevant to your readers stand out.
·         Including bullet points to help people skim the content and take in the vital points.
·         Inserting pictures sparingly. Images should illustrate your message rather than replace your content. Some email providers block images or consider them an indicator of spam.
Here’s an example of what an email newsletter template might look like.
 6. Include interesting links and calls to action
The aim of most email marketing campaigns is to increase traffic to a site, sometimes a specific landing page. No clicks means no customers -- it really is that simple. Always try to include visually striking buttons with text that give readers more than one opportunity to interact (e.g., Find out more! Download Now! etc.).
In general, calls to action should be written as just that -- actions. The more exciting the action you describe, the more enticing it will be to your audience.
7. Make it easy to unsubscribe
It may seem as though you are cutting off the "conversation" by giving clients the chance to opt out, but if a user wants to remove their name from your lists and can’t do so easily, they’ll flag emails as spam, which will cause you problems in the future.
 8. Make emails mobile-friendly
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Many people reach for their phone. In fact, 66% of email opens occur on smartphones or tablets. If your emails aren’t optimized for viewing on these devices, you’re potentially missing out on a huge number of clicks.
 9. Test, test, test
Never send anything without making sure it’s working properly. Double-check that your messages look the way you want them to be by sending them to employee accounts. Ideally, you will view them on Outlook.com, Gmail, and Yahoo, and on a variety of mobile devices before finalizing your drafts.
For more robust testing, check out Litmus, a tool that tests and provides screenshots of your email in dozens of different email tools.
Ensure that all your links work, and any personalization shortcodes aren’t failing. Sending mass emails without double-checking the content would be like turning up to a business meeting having chosen your outfit in the dark. If it goes wrong, you’ll look foolish and unprofessional.
10. More testing!
Beyond testing content on different platforms, you should also experiment with different subject lines, calls to action, and body text to see what is most engaging to your audience.
Some email tools have built-in A/B testing modules that allow you to compare the results of different versions of your emails, but even if you don’t have access to these, you can run tests on your own. Try sending your emails on different days of the week or different times of the day to see when you get the best response rate.
11. Track your data
Some results may have nothing to do with platforms and content. Keep a close eye on your data, like how many email addresses were undeliverable or what time of the day people opened your message. These tiny details will tell you a lot about your email’s performance.
If you’re using Google Analytics on your website, tagging your emails with custom campaign tracking can show you how they are driving traffic to your landing pages and how those visitors behave once they arrive on your site. Equipped with this powerful information, you can now really tailor your marketing message to people who will use it.
12. Don’t overwhelm your subscribers
Armed with all these tips, you might be eager to start sending out as many emails as you can. But beware of how often you send messages to your list. You don’t want to flood their inbox with marketing messages about everything you offer -- they might get annoyed and unsubscribe.
13. Above all else, provide value
Great email marketing ultimately comes down to giving your audience something that sticks with them - something that keeps your business on their mind, whether that’s educational information about your industry, operational messages about your service, or marketing messages about the products you offer.
Otherwise, that message is just going to end up in the trash.
This is just the beginning
Like most marketing efforts, becoming successful with email marketing is a process. It’s a combination of good planning and analyzing data to make improvements to your campaigns, but the only way to learn and improve is to get out there and apply these Email Marketing Tips. Start emailing!

Time to Log Off
Tumblr media
I was texting a friend on election night and we were stressed out, to put it mildly. As I write this on the following day, the outcome of the presidential race is still in doubt, but there’s a good chance my candidate will win - probably after a long and painful process. Regardless of the final result, my friend and I were confused and sad about how many people couldn’t see things the way we do.
(Stay with me through the next paragraph. I’m building to a point.)
How could more than 65 million Americans want four more years of this administration? The drama. The incompetence. The scandal. The massive mishandling of a pandemic that has resulted in nearly a quarter-million deaths. The blatant racism. The divisiveness. The hubris. The exhausting self-centeredness. How can people not see this?
The answer is, they don’t. They literally don’t. And I don’t see what they’re seeing either.
Social media is largely to blame, of course. Our feeds and sources of information are tailored to our personal preferences and amplified to keep us engaged. When Liz and I started working at Yahoo! more than 20 years ago – Yikes, has it been that long? – the fledgling company was always trying new ways to make the site more “sticky”. Heck, it’s the same model of mass media that’s been in place since the radio was invented more than a century ago. Give people content that will make them come back and then sell the eyeballs to advertisers. There’s no mystery here. If the product is free, then YOU are the product.
But it’s different today. And I’ve come to realize I’m part of the problem.
By participating in these platforms, I feel like I’m doing a disservice to my community and myself. Sure, I’d love to do nothing but share non-profit updates and run goofy brackets to help people kill time. But I’m also engaging in dialogues that are unhealthy. When I share a snarky comment or blast an opinion, I’m doing it to feel the rush of approval from others, and those folks in turn have their own biases confirmed. (Even writing this feels like I’m desperately seeking affirmation. Gross!) And occasionally, my comments will spark an ugly argument or insult. On top of that, the constant barrage of updates and outrage can be triggering for someone like me who has struggled with depression and anxiety. It’s not a healthy relationship.
So, on Friday, Nov. 6, I’m going to delete my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I can be reached on email at joestreng @ gmail.com and my friends can hit me up via text. I’ll keep my LinkedIn account for professional purposes. I’d love to say I’m going to put the extra time to amazing use by working out until I’m totally jacked or reading a book a day. But I’ll probably just hang out in my backyard, drink beer and do crosswords. Or play golf on my PS4. Or go for a walk with my wife. (Hi Lizzie!)
By the way, I totally get the importance these platforms can play in helping people stay connected. Everyone has valid reasons for posting and sharing. And some may interpret this as virtue signaling or that I feel I’ve risen above those who keep their accounts. That’s not my intent. This is just a personal choice.
I hope this is useful for anyone who reads it. Take care of yourself!

UNFRIENDED: Here are all the Mark Zuckerberg allies who have turned on Facebook, Defence Online

Facebook cofounder Chris Hughes wrote an unexpectedly critical opinion piece in the New York Times on Facebook, calling for the breakup of the company.
He’s just the latest prominent former Facebook figure to turn on the social network after 18 months of scandal.
We put together a list of Mark Zuckerberg’s former allies and employees who are now critical of his company.
Visit Defence Online’s homepage for more stories.
Perhaps wisely, Mark Zuckerberg has disabled the feature on Facebook that lets you see how many friends he has on the social network. The number is probably big, given he has 114 million people that follow his updates.
His friendship group IRL is looking a little smaller, thanks to a tumultuous 18 months of scandal that includes the Cambridge Analytica scandal, accusations of exacerbating genocide in Myanmar, and numerous security incidents like harvesting 1.5 million users’ email addresses without their permission.
Read more: A Facebook cofounder has written a blistering New York Times op-ed arguing that Mark Zuckerberg’s social network should be torn apart
As opinion has turned against Facebook and its CEO, so have some of his former employees, investors, and allies – even though the social media company has made many of them extremely wealthy. These people have broken with Silicon Valley convention of maintaining an air of optimism about the places they worked or invested in, in order to criticise Zuckerberg and his company to the media.
Here’s the running list of people unfriending Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook.
Roger McNamee mentored Mark Zuckerberg and then wrote a book about how terrible Facebook is.

McNamee was an early investor in Facebook, and once a mentor to Mark Zuckerberg when he was a young founder. But in January 2018 – before the Cambridge Analytica data scandal broke – McNamee went on the warpath, accusing his former protégé and Facebook of becoming “toxic” in newspaper op-eds. He went on to expand on his ideas in a book titled “Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe.”
Justin Rosenstein, the former Facebook engineer who invented the ‘like’ button, refuses to use social media.

Justin Rosenstein was an early employee at Facebook, and quit in 2008. He’s now cofounded a startup called Asana with Dustin Moskowitz, one of Facebook’s founders.
In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Rosenstein said he’s sworn off all social media and described “likes” on Facebook as “bright dings of pseudo-pleasure.”

Chris Hughes is a cofounder of Facebook, and left the company relatively early on to volunteer for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
In an astonishing opinion piece for The New York Times, Hughes called for the breakup of Facebook, saying that the social network, WhatsApp, and Instagram should be three separate public companies.
“Mark is a good, kind person,” he wrote of Zuckerberg. “But I’m angry that his focus on growth led him to sacrifice security and civility for clicks.”
Brian Acton, the cofounder of WhatsApp who told people to “delete Facebook.”

One of Facebook’s smartest decisions was to acquire WhatsApp for $19 billion in 2014.
But WhatsApp’s founders, Brian Acton and Jan Koum, are privacy-obsessed characters, who inevitably clashed with an acquirer whose entire business was making money via the mass collection of people’s information. Acton left Facebook in 2017 and promptly began advising a WhatsApp competitor, messaging app Signal, and told people to “delete Facebook.”
In an explosive interview with Forbes, he also detailed icy exchanges with Zuckerberg. According to Acton, Zuckerberg told him in one of their final meetings, “This is probably the last time you’ll ever talk to me.”
Jan Koum, the other WhatsApp cofounder who flounced out after clashes with Facebook’s executives.

Jan Koum confirmed in April 2018 that he planned to leave Facebook, quitting only a few months after his cofounder.
Although Koum has been more circumspect in his remarks about Facebook, The Washington Post reported that he had clashed directly with Facebook over its plans to monetise WhatsApp. Like Acton, Koum was made a billionaire when Facebook acquired his company for $19 billion.

“God only knows what it’s doing to our children’s brains,” Sean Parker told Axios in November 2017, in reference to social media.
Parker, the first president of Facebook and one of its earliest investors, said bluntly in the same interview that the company had been designed to exploit “vulnerability” through features such as ‘likes.’
It was an astonishing admission from someone so closely associated with Facebook’s early success.
Leah Pearlman, the co-inventor of the ‘like’ button who is haunted by “Black Mirror.”

TEDx Talks/YouTube
Pearlman is a former manager at Facebook, and now an illustrator. She developed the concept for what became the “like” button on Facebook, eventually working with then coworker Justin Rosenstein, and other employees to bring it to life.
Although the idea was intended to bring more positivity to the social network, Pearlman has come to worry about the dynamics of the like button and the wider idea of engagement.
In a 2017 interview with The Ringer, Pearlman said she was haunted by a “Black Mirror” episode where people’s social credibility hinges on a peer-to-peer ratings system. “I just watched that about a month ago, and that haunts me on a pretty regular basis,” she said at the time. “Because it’s not that far off.”
Chamath Palihapitiya, a former Facebook executive, said Facebook was destroying how society works.

Like Sean Parker, ex-Facebook executive Chamath Palihapitiya worried about the effect of constant dopamine hits provided by the social network.
In a November 2018 interview at Stanford, Palihapitiya said: “The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops that we have created are destroying how society works. No civil discourse. No cooperation. Misinformation. Mistruth. And it’s not an American problem. This is not about Russian ads. This is a global problem. So we are in a really bad state of affairs right now, in my opinion.”
Palihapitiya later walked back his remarks but, Wired reported in 2019, the comments particularly hurt insiders. The magazine reported that COO Sheryl Sandberg sometimes wears a necklace welded together from one given to her by Mark Zuckerberg, and another given to her by Palihapitiya.

Sandy Parakilas, as he tells it, was comparatively low down in the pecking order when he worked at Facebook between 2011 and 2012.
But he was involved in an element of Facebook’s platform that would become crucial to the Cambridge Analytica data scandal in 2018. And amidst all the confusion about what had actually happened, Parakilas could give a clear explanation of how Facebook hadn’t policed the third-party developers plugging into its platform.
Parakilas spent much of 2018 jetting around the world testifying to various governments about the disaster, and holding Facebook to account. “I’m pretty sure Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg do not appreciate what I’m doing,” he told Defence Online last year. “I have no intention of stopping until the company is doing all it needs to do to protect our elections.”
Instagram cofounder Kevin Systrom, who resigned abruptly from Facebook six years after acquisition.

Facebook’s other extremely smart acquisition was Instagram, which it bought for a comparatively modest $1 billion.
Systrom and his cofounder Mike Krieger stuck around at Facebook for six years after the acquisition, but the pair abruptly resigned in September 2018 for reasons that still aren’t entirely clear.
Six years is longer than usual for an acquired founder to hang around but Systrom hinted in onstage interviews that things hadn’t necessarily ended well. “No one ever leaves a job because everything’s awesome, right? Work’s hard,” he said in 2018.

Chris Cox was, until recently, chief product officer at Facebook and one of its most beloved employees.
Cox has not been openly critical of Facebook, but has suggested that he disagrees with the company’s new direction, where it will knit the backends of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram together.
He told Yahoo Finance in an interview that he left Facebook over “artistic differences.”

Martinez, a journalist and former Facebook product manager, is not as outspoken in his criticism of the social network as others on this list. And he is often critical of the way journalists cover the company.
But he has admonished Facebook for allowing the Cambridge Analytica data scandal to happen, and Mark Zuckerberg for behaving in a robotic fashion. He has also accused the company of “lying through their teeth” about the way its ad platform works.
Honorable mention: former chief privacy officer, Alex Stamos

Alex Stamos was Facebook’s chief security officer at a crucial time in its history: just as its platform was being abused by Russian trolls and agents to influence the US presidential election. Stamos tried to warn Facebook’s leaders and board of the threat but, as he told it to Yahoo Finance, his style and approach resulted in his being pushed out.
He has taken a nuanced approach to commenting on Facebook, and arguably defended the firm more than he’s criticised it. But he has hinted that it had been tough to work at the company. “Obviously, it has been a difficult three years,” he told the New York Times. “I’d like to take the things I’ve learned and apply them more broadly.”
Honorable mention: Facebook cofounder Eduardo Saverin, who had a bitter legal dispute with Facebook.

Saverin is, interestingly, not a current critic of Facebook, telling Forbes in a recent interview that he was “proud” of Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg.
He remains a shareholder in Facebook but, in its early days, was embroiled in multiple lawsuits with the company over his stake in the company. All were settled out of court, and Saverin signed an NDA.

A Beginners Guide to Fighting Spam
One effective tool that spammers use is called "spambots". These are programs that automatically and randomly browse websites looking for email addresses. It collects these emails and stores them, making large email lists. Sometimes the lists are used directly by marketers, while often they are sold for use by spammers. Though spambots are effective in their technique, there are some ways to fight them.
Get Smart With Your E-Mail If you don't allow your email to get harvested, it won't. It's difficult to avoid putting your email address in various places, however - when you place a comment on a blog or in a forum, for example -- so knowing how and when to provide your email is important.
When you do provide your email address, give one that's not your primary email address. Create a new email address at one of the free email sites and use that for your "commercial" purposes, like posting on blogs or forums. Once you confirm the email, you don't have to worry about what gets sent there and can do a mass delete once in a while to get rid of all that spam.
Tumblr media
Do be aware that email providers like Hotmail and Yahoo are often used for this purpose and some sites have become hip to it. Some will prohibit emails with @hotmail or @yahoo, for example, but there are many more sites that do not. You can have several "junk" email addresses so you can switch it around if you need to.
Be Smarter Than The Spambot Spambots are smart, but they aren't human and can't reason like a human might. Therefore they can't spot subtle distinctions unless they are programmed to see them. If you can disguise a publicly visible email address, you can often create a situation where the spambot bypasses you. The spambots are generally programmed to look for character strings typical in emails, like [email protected]. The spambot can't think for itself, so sometimes you can confuse them by simply changing the string to something like john_smith_at_domainname.com.
Even if you email is still harvested, it will likely have to be "scrubbed" before being usable to the spambot. Scrubbing routines are hard to write, even harder than writing spambots, because there are many variations. The changes (such as changing the publicly visible email to john_smith_at_NOSPAMdomainname.com) are simple for humans to understand, but hard for programs, which only do what they are programmed to do.
This isn't an ideal method, however. To use the mail, humans must remove the extra letters and insert the @ sign, which is sometimes hard to remember, or that many don't know to do. Also, many emails systems are automated and they, too, will deliver to the wrong address.
There is one other camouflage technique that is sometimes effective. You can configure your email so the receiver doesn't see your actual email, but anything you designate. This is how spammers operate, so you can, too.
Filters If you have worked to create a good email and you have shared that email with friends, vendors and business associates, that last thing you might want to do it to disguise it. That's contrary to all the hard work you put into making it a solid, memorable and visible email. There are junk mail and spam filters that can help here.
If you get a good filter, it will scan every email before it's delivered to your mailbox to determine whether or not it's junk. You can even configure the junk filters to send everything to your junk folder unless it comes from an email address you have in your address book.

Verizon Is Blocking Efforts to Preserve Internet History
Archivists attempting to preserve internet history say that Verizon is undermining their efforts to archive Yahoo Groups ahead of the service’s looming shutdown on December 14.
Verizon bought Yahoo back in 2017 as part of it’s ongoing effort to rebrand itself as a modern online advertising juggernaut. Many of the acquired properties, like Tumblr, have since been offloaded for a tiny fraction of their previous valuation. Others are simply being shuttered.
Back in October, Verizon announced it would be shutting down Yahoo Groups, a community discussion forum that has existed for the better part of 20 years.
Enter activists at the Archive Group, who have been trying to archive the collected history of the platform before this Saturday’s impending shutdown. In a blog post, volunteers working on the project say Verizon has undermined their efforts at every turn.
“Yahoo banned all the email addresses that the Archive Team volunteers had been using to join Yahoo Groups in order to download data,” the group says. “Verizon has also made it impossible for the Archive Team to continue using semi-automated scripts to join Yahoo Groups—which means each group must be re-joined one by one, an impossible task.”
The archivists says Yahoo also killed the last third party tool (PG Offline) that users of the service have been using to access their messages, photos and files.
Jason Scott, co-founder of the Archive Team, told Motherboard Verizon is simply jettisoning an unwanted property, oblivious to any deeper impact the move may have on actual users or internet history.
“What they are doing is burning 20 years of history and archives maintained by communities with a non-functioning system for backing them up,” he said. “They made no real preparations for users to pull the information out because companies like Yahoo! were never designed to allow information to leave their walled gardens.”
Verizon did not respond to a request for comment.
The fracas is just the latest for a telecom giant that acquired both AOL and Yahoo in the hopes of transforming itself from a curmudgeonly old telco into a sexy new online ad empire. But from the collapse of its Go90 streaming service to the Tumblr porn controversy, Verizon’s efforts to position itself as a serious ad challenger to Google and Facebook haven’t gone well.
Verizon similarly banned archivist IP ranges as they attempted to preserve Tumblr history in the wake of the telco’s controversial porn ban. The company’s repeated tone deafness has fostered a reputation as a bumbling—if not malicious—telecom giant wandering well out of its depth.
“This is 20 years of communities, discussion and artifacts from millions of groups, all representing learned information, legal and historical references, and naturally, the conversations of tens of millions of users,” Scott said. “Some of it is likely worthless and some of it is likely precious. It is all being treated like trash.”
Cory Doctorow, whose website Boing Boing first reported Verizon’s latest gaffe, told Motherboard there’s no legal justification for Verizon’s moves, since Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act protects Verizon for liability for content posted by Yahoo Groups users.
“The entire post-Verizon acquisition of Yahoo has been a string of ghastly errors and missteps and so possibly the explanation is just ‘the curse of bigness’—that the supposed efficiencies of vertical monopolies are myths, and the reason that these vertical monopolies are so profitable is because they're monopolies, not because they're efficient,” Doctorow said.
The Archive Team says they’re facing a loss of nearly 80 percent of the data they’ve collected so far, and are looking for volunteers to aid them in recovery and archival before the Verizon hammer comes down.
Both Doctorow and Scott say Verizon’s incompetence and apathy comes with a very real cost for tracking and preserving human history, both online and off.
“Yahoo Groups was one of the original platforms for communication and coordination among affinity groups—political, medical, regional, interest-based, and so on,” Doctorow said. “These groups contain vital historical records of key moments in our shared past—what firefighters were saying after 9-11; or even how white nationalist sentiment incubated within online groups that went from the fringes to the White House.”
“Mass deletion of this record is really a purging of some of the irreplaceable documents of our century,” he added.

The Only 3 Times Companies Should Issue Press Releases
New Post has been published on http://affordablewebhostingsearch.com/the-only-3-times-companies-should-issue-press-releases/
The Only 3 Times Companies Should Issue Press Releases
There’s so much more to public relations than the press release. Yet often that is what companies associate the most with PR and assume is their best communications tactic. It’s not, especially for smaller companies that might not have the budget for press releases.
I often advise companies to rely on press releases as little as possible. They’re expensive to distribute over the news wires, for starters — several hundred dollars for one standard release. And most press releases are useless and their impact is much the same as a mass email with no call to action. They get lost in the daily noise and deleted without a second thought.
So what’s the point of a press release and when is one warranted? Here are three instances that call for a press release.
1. You are required to by law.
If yours is a publicly traded company, you have to issue press releases on the regular. You have no choice but to issues press releases to inform the public of material information such as quarterly earnings, dividend declarations, stock splits, changes in leadership and more. At big public companies, there are lots of press releases in the works at all times. For this reason, when I worked in financial services, I tried to limit the press releases I did that were not required by law or regulators. If I wanted reporters to know about the firm’s market outlook or a quotable expert source, I sent a story pitch instead.
2. You are operating in a crisis.
If you are in crisis mode, a press release could be your best bet for communicating with the masses. And because you are in a crisis, your audience’s ears will be perked for communications from you, meaning your press release will be read and published. Examples of crisis could be a product recall, wrongdoing by a team member, death of a senior leader, an inappropriate or offensive tweet that goes viral, a natural disaster that affects operations.
3. You want your news disseminated verbatim — and you can afford it.
Before the internet, when companies issued press releases, the only places that might publish them word for word would be wire services like the Associated Press. But the AP didn’t connect with news consumers directly. Rather it was up to newspapers and broadcast outlets to decide if they would run that information and how it would be edited. The internet has changed all that. Now every news organization has a website it needs to fill with content, and there are a ton of Web-only outlets — like Yahoo! Finance — that didn’t exist before.
Now when companies put out news releases to announce new products, new hires and more, they can expect some websites — from Yahoo! Finance and MarketWatch to local newspaper and TV station websites — to pick it up and publish it word for word. To be clear, this isn’t the same as a news story, and it will be labeled as a press release, but you still get your unfiltered message out into the world.
