Cannabis Consumption: What Are My Medication Options?
Aj Tinker November 26, 2019
When it comes to cannabis consumption, most people’s minds automatically revert to the two main methods everyone has seen and/or tried in their lifetime, smoking and “pot brownies”, or edibles. For many, one or both of these methods are turn-offs when it comes to considering cannabis as a form of treatment for their medical needs. Some have tried edibles, taken too much and had a bad experience, never to touch them again. Those who do not smoke, or do not like the smell of smoke tend to be turned off from the idea of smoking cannabis. Although these are the two most well-known methods, and earlier on, they used to be the only options for cannabis use, this is no longer the case. Today, the wonders of science and technology have brought us advancements in the world of cannabis consumption that provide options for everyone. So, what exactly are these options? Well, let’s take a look.
The first option, which has received a lot of bad press lately due to the vaping epidemic, are cannabis concentrates. This does not just include the prefilled vape cartridges you can purchase from your local dispensary. It also includes dabbing, so shatter, wax, terp sauce, rosin, terp crystals, hash, and distillate are also other forms of vaping. When you purchase your products in a prefilled vape cartridge, all you have to do is attach the cartridge to its compatible battery and off you go, you’re ready to medicate. When you expand into the other, more advanced levels of concentrates, there are a few options as to how you can consume these. The most common is to use a rig, which is a glass setup, almost identical to a bong, but has a glass banger instead of a glass bowl. The consumer would heat up the glass banger with a blow torch, similar to the crème brulee blowtorches you see chefs use, and the concentrate would be dropped into the banger and then vaped through the rig. This method can be very intimidating to those who are inexperienced, or even those who, like in my case, are experienced but consider themselves to be fairly uncoordinated and worry about causing an accident with the blowtorch. If you already have a bong and are interested in trying out this option, you could purchase a titanium or quartz concentrate nail which will allow you to modify your glass bowl for concentrate use. One of the great things about using a rig is that it is versatile for all concentrates, so you do not have to worry that one concentrate may not be compatible with the setup you have.
If you are leery of the idea of using a blowtorch, but are still interested in trying this option, not to worry, we’ve got you covered. There are several electronic devices on the market for vaping concentrates, allowing the consumer to bypass the need for a blowtorch. Concentrate pens are always a great option. The Kuli is a great option as far as dabbing due to its portability and discreetness, but there are a lot of other great options on the market as well. The main thing you want to look for when choosing a concentrate pen is whether the pen is compatible with the concentrates you plan to use. Some products are cross-compatible with multiple types of concentrates, however others are not, so you really want to research this before you make your purchase. The next option, returning to the glass bong again, is to purchase an electric concentrate nail, which you would put into the bowl of your bong and place the concentrate on that, which would heat up the concentrate and allow you to vape your cannabis as you would through a traditional rig. Then, there is the option of the electronic rigs, such as the Puffco Peak, which is basically an electronic dab rig which allows you to control the temperature without using a blowtorch. The last option for using concentrates, which doesn’t really fall under vaping, but I am going to include it here, is sprinkling the concentrate on top of your dry herb cannabis and then smoking it. When it comes to concentrates, the quickest way to achieve relief is through a traditional dab rig, however using any of these methods will provide pretty quick relief, so it’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable.
When it comes to concentrates, they are great as far as discreet medicating when using prefilled vape cartridges and even concentrate pens, but when it comes to transferring the concentrates to the pens and rigs, it can be very messy, sticky, and you may find that you get a little frustrated when trying this option. Don’t get discouraged. You only need a very small amount, as concentrates are very potent. If you find you got it on your hands, use rubbing alcohol to take it off, and always be sure to clean your rig once you are done. Once you get past the practice mode, you’ll be good to go and enjoying this option. It is also a great option for those looking for strain specific cannabis products, but do not want to smoke flower.
The next option available is edibles. This includes things like pot brownies, cookies, and gummies. There are so many different types of edible snacks on the market, so it will not be difficult to find something that fits suits your taste buds. Edibles are a tricky thing, as many are very confused regarding dosing, especially where it can take quite a while for the effects to kick in after consumption. It is important to note that you should never consume edibles on an empty stomach and be sure to keep hydrated. One major downside to edibles is that there are no real options, other than a few states with their own in-state only options, for strain-specific edibles. This is problematic because consumers cannot guarantee the effects, they will receive from consuming the product, which may make it difficult for them to manage their medical needs through this option. There are companies out there who offer Sativa and/or Indica edibles, which is a fantastic start because at least consumers can have an idea as to what type of effect they can expect to have. The Sativa should make you feel more awake and alert, the Indica should make you feel more relaxed and calmer. The other issue that I have run into with edibles is that the type of strain used for a specific edible product may not be the same from batch to batch. For example, at one dispensary I purchased a pack of gummies and the effects were uplifting, energizing, focused, and happy. I felt amazing and went back about a week later and bought the same product again. This time that product made me sleepy, unfocused, happy, but very stoned and unable to function. When I asked about this, I was told that when the edibles are made through this specific place, they grind up several types of cannabis, sprinkle it all together, and add it into the batches. The strains used are not the same each time, therefore the effects are not guaranteed to be the same each time. This is less of an issue with the Sativa and Indica edibles, as these are specifically created from strains that fall under these types of flower, so you are guaranteed to at least receive similar results from batch to batch.
To get back to the dosing issue, the main complaint I have heard time and time again is that most people who have tried edibles have had such a bad experience that they will never try edibles again. When I ask them how they consumed the edible they tried, the answer usually is that they ate an entire pot brownie that a friend gave them. This is where I generally ask the individual to please give edibles one more shot using the following dosage recommendations. Everytime I try an edible, I cut the product into 8 pieces. If it is a brownie or cookie, or something along those lines, I cut it into 8 pieces and then cut each of those into four to six pieces, depending on the potency of the product. When I say potency, I am talking about the total milligrams of THC. For example, when it says the edible is 125 mg, that means the total THC content in that edible is 125 mg, not that it is 125 mg per piece. Once I have cut this into pieces, I take one piece, wait 90 minutes to see how it affects me. If after 90 minutes I do not feel any relief, or I do not feel enough relief, then I will take another piece and wait another 90 minutes. Going slow with edibles prevents overdoing it and promotes positive experiences rather than the bad trips most have experienced when trying edibles previously.
Tinctures, which technically fall under edibles, are my new favorite means of medicating. These are also a very tricky option, and possibly slightly trickier than regular edibles. Tinctures come in so many options, from 1:1 THC/CBD, to pure THC, pure CBD, and there are even options for prefilled oral syringes, which I am also going to include in this section. Each of these options includes the dosing recommendations on the packaging. For example, most tinctures recommend one drop per serving. To take this tincture, you would simply drop the tincture under your tongue, hold it there and wait 60 seconds, then swallow. This allows the tincture to absorb through your mucus membranes and get into your system more quickly. When you medicate via tincture, it is important to be aware of whether you have eaten yet or not. Tinctures tend to be pretty potent, and if you are taking it on an empty stomach, you may find that you end up higher than expected. If this happens, eating may make this worse, so as a general rule of thumb it is best to try to eat a little before you take the tincture, unless you are looking for more intense effects. Just as with any other edible, tinctures can take 90 minutes before you start to feel any effects, sometimes they are much sooner, sometimes it can be a little longer, so go low and slow. You can always take more if you need it.
Topicals, capsules, pills, and suppositories are also great options for medicating. Topicals work best for those who have physical pain, for example, those with arthritis. Topicals can be rubbed on the area affected area to treat the pain. This form of cannabis administration is a great option for those looking to use THC for bodily pain, but do not want to experience the psychoactive effects, as they are not designed to get you high, and in most cases will not. These are great in the way of being effective, however it is important to keep the area covered to prevent accidental transferal of THC to others who may come in contact with you while the topical absorbs into your skin. Topicals, such as balms and salves, do not enter the bloodstream. The exception to this rule are transdermal patches, which are covered so you do not have to worry about others coming in contact with the THC, but you will experience psychoactive effects because the THC does work its way into the bloodstream and circulate throughout your body when medicating via this option. Capsules, pills, and suppositories are discreet and allow the consumer to keep thins simple. The main issue when it comes to pills, capsules, and suppositories is that it is very difficult to adjust your dosage if you find that the product is too potent or not potent enough.
Finally, we will touch on the most well-known method of all, flower. As I said previously, this is something that many may be looking to avoid, but it is something I want to include because it is an important and viable option. Flower, like concentrates, allows the consumer to purchase strain-specific cannabis products where they can choose the effects they are looking to experience. Now, this may not always be the case, as everyone’s experience is different and different factors contribute to these different experiences, but this at least gives you more options to explore in the way of targeting your specific medical needs. Smoking cannabis is one of the fastest means of experiencing relief, and can be done through joint, blunt, pipe, bong, electronic pen, and I am sure I am probably leaving out some other means, but these are the most common ones. The largest downside I have found when smoking cannabis is the smell. It lingers, everyone knows you smoked, and it is not discreet at all. However, others would also say that the downside is smoking, which yes, I agree that regardless of the amazing benefits of cannabis, inhaling anything other than air is damaging to your lungs.
Today the cannabis industry has gone above and beyond to provide new options to make medicating an option for everyone and anyone who is looking to try cannabis as a viable treatment option. Education and science have and will continue to bring us new advances in this industry, broadening not only our understanding of how this amazing plant can help us heal, but how it can be consumed. When trying to choose the best option for your needs, I would recommend first determining which options are most realistic for you as far as usage. For example, if you are considering the pills, but hate taking pills and can’t remember to take a vitamin every day, then maybe taking pills aren’t for you. Maybe an edible is a better option. I know that many people are put-off by the idea of vaping but let me assure you that this was not related to the regulated products you will purchase in your reputable dispensaries. With this said, maybe vaping your product from a vape cartridge is the best option for quick relief and discreet medicating. It is also important to remember that you are not limited to just one means of medicating. If you are on the fence and can afford it, try several options. If not, there are so many articles out there which talk about these different options, not to mention your locate dispensary Patient Advocate should be able to help you choose the product that will best meet your needs. At any rate, at the end of the day, it is all about safe access to natural healing options which can help to alleviate the pain and suffering of so many health issues, both when used on its own, or when combined with other pharmaceuticals and health regimens.

incoming new moon:
. my tinctures that i started two moon cycles ago will be complete, even though i am not sure how much i feel like using them or how potent they will be. i have since done more research on extraction and how alcohol isn't even the best method for consuming some of the plants. nevertheless, i am proud of my first long-term plant medicine endeavor. this will be a lifelong path i will never abandon, as it is just true. i want to praise the earth more and more and be connected to the goddess earth energy i used to only be able to intellectualize. it will be so satisfying to label and store the tinctures and just look at them all complete. i look forward to experimenting with the concoctions i created and how they help my body.
. i had such a happy week despite my period arriving today. typically there is a huge emotional downturn pre-bleed. one that makes me so sensitive that i am rendered absolutely needy and energetically depleted, sensitive in every sense of the word. but this week i was powerful and strong. able to complete things i had been wanting to do, give myself lots of rest. the rest is really the key, along with meds for the pain. but emotionally, i was able to not only be there for myself, but be there for people in my life in really meaningful ways. not feeling like i need to escape into my solitude, although that is part of it. it gives me hope that not every menstrual cycle will be a battle against my body. i think my progesterone really kicked in this time around, making me calm and happy.
. i will say that just a week prior, so two weekends ago (today is monday), i was an emotional wreck in philly. post-flu and in a family setting - not surprising. and my family cried at similar things i did to be fair. and i had my boyfriends bike injury as a stressor. i just feel so self aware, i can look at all the components of why i am upset and give myself grace, moving through the emotions with more flow and dignity.
. i have realized that really the best example i have set for my family is how i take care of my emotions and myself. i could never force them to face their own demons, but by always giving myself that space, i think it has finally rubbed off on my sister. she has praised me so much in the last few weeks, saying i am such a good role model to look up to. this is soo validating, as for a long time i felt ostracized for how differently i handled my life and happiness. but that is the thing about setting boundaries, it is hard but in the end what is best for everybody. i have been able to differentiate when i should and should not engage in conflict, and the most loving way to do so. it's great to get the reward of validation to keep going, that my path was right all along.
. i have been able to really be present for people in my life. for my mom after a huge emotional blow and surgery. for a friend after a breakup. to just be there and sit with someone, lay in bed. have a laugh and talk about anything except the deep pain they are in. this is an act of letting go, not wanting to fix or control. deep meditative love.
. what else will the new moon bring this week? i cannot wait to feel

The cbd öl Awards: The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Things We've Seen
Why Marijuana Fans Should Not See Approval For Epilepsy Medication As A Win For Weed

Many people in the usa suffer from chronic pain. The Medication Enforcement Administration (DEA) classifies marijuana or cannabis as a Schedule 1 product - this means there is certainly "no presently accepted medical use and a high prospect of abuse." Appropriately, before Epidiolex is ready for use among patients, it needs to be appropriately reclassified - something GW Pharmaceuticals expects to see happen next three months. Cannabis is a flowering seed that contain three distinct variations, i.e.: Cannabis Ruderalis, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Savita. Rigorous rules around Cannabis cultivation can be found because of this of it having been used as a recreational drug for the high THC level using types. However, Cannabis can be employed for its durable fibrous consistency, its richness in nutrients and its own medical properties.
CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD can help with both falling asleep and staying asleep. CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A report from the European Journal of Pain demonstrated, using an animal model, CBD applied on the skin could help lower pain and irritation credited to arthritis. Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to take care of. More research in humans is needed in this area to substantiate the statements of CBD proponents about pain control. As with other health and fitness products, there is no one-size-fits-all offering amount for CBD. The FDA hasn't established formal nutritional recommendations for CBD intake, so it is up to CBD consumers to decide on the optimal amounts. When consuming a CBD product, start by sticking to the recommended portion sizes found on lower-concentration products, then increase as needed.
The struggle in South Africa continues and this Hub will keep on addressing how to handle the resistance the low intensity warfare that is presently being waged against africans from all fronts, and try to offer some answers to tough issues that arise from being oppressed, poor, ignorant, and the complete bit. In battling this neo-post-Apartheid colossal by means of the ANC, people need to pay attention to the fact that there needs to be a great deal of preparation, self-discipline and effort among and with the struggling and ignored, debased and oppressed armies of the poor African masses. Research implies that animal protein is easily digestible than seed proteins. However, 91-98% of the hemp powder proteins are digestible. The easily digestible proteins in hemp are edestin and albumin. Heat digesting reduces the breakdown of proteins. Therefore, if you are interested in high-quality hemp powder; go for the main one made from cold prepared hemp seeds. Vegans can infuse the powder in their diet for important functions such as repair of body tissues after exercise.
A particular forces friend I'm helping, because I can't call them clients. Got him from stage 4 to free from cancer with an intica stress, on a vaporizer. It helped alot along with his extreme PSTD. Yet lost him in the long run, as he returned on alcoholic beverages, he was becoming a personal problems for me. Saved four other folks though. I believe chemotherapy leading to new cancers and their aspect effects is worse than the initial cancer. Proof is cancer has increased 4 to 5 times in the last 50 years. Conventional drugs can help alleviate tightness and pain, but many people see CBD as a more natural alternative. Many of the people consider marijuana as a herb which may be used for recreational purposes only. However, this can be a dark side of marijuana as this supplement is not less than a boon for mankind. Controversial yet beneficial, marijuana can't be overlooked no matter what as it can be used for medical purposes as well. If used properly, marijuana not only treats various types of illnesses and diseases, but offers a safer environment to the consumers.
Hemp Essential oil has many nutritional benefits for Vegetarians that typically do not consume food that contains Omega-3, and Omega-6 essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are crucial for a sound body. Since Hemp Essential oil is filled with them, it's the perfect health supplement for people that do not eat meat or fish. Once you have access to a marijuana distributor, you should have the option between a variety of options for using legal medical cannabis. Dried out marijuana flower is still the most popular form, but a growing number of states have banned smokable marijuana in their programs. Other choices include tincture sprays, pills, vapes, concentrated extracts, and edibles. For all those looking for exterior applications, balms, salves, and lotions can be rubbed straight into the muscles, joints, and epidermis for focused relief. There are even dermal patches that may be placed on the skin for postponed release through the cbdbro.ch day.
Moreover, various studies have been conducted which have established a romantic relationship between the CBD and treatment - ranging from malignancy treatment to arthritis rheumatoid , the CBD oil assists in treating vomiting and nausea from the chemotherapy. To be able to figure out how to start optimizing your healing program of cannabis has been the traveling factor that is behind one of the greatest experiments in the days of democracy. The consequence of this finding is called medical marijuana and it has been observed from one state to another and one country to some other in the very recent years. Given that you can easily find CBD Vape Oil on the market online, it is rather easy to use any typical e-cigarette, also known as a vaporizer or vape pen, to take your dependence on CBD. The rise used of CBD rich hemp essential oil can be partially related to its popularity among people who vape. It really is convenient, discreet and the majority of all, does not have you inhaling smoke that is which can have carcinogens that could harm the lungs.
In the UK, however, Sajid Javid won't reclassify cannabis before Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs provides recommendations about the general public health implications - that may are the abuse potential of cannabis-based CBD. Though it seems very likely that the home secretary will continue steadily to move towards a patient focused resolution. CBD oil has been making waves recently over the skincare industry due to its amazing anti-inflammatory, skin-smoothing, and skin-moisturizing properties. But regrettably, hardly any people are aware of this wonder ingredient's benefits for their epidermis and health. It may have side results such as low blood pressure, lightheadedness, fatigue, dried out mouth, and slowed engine functions. However, these side effects have been found to be gentle according to various studies. Use of CBD essential oil is recommended if you reside in a country or region where in fact the possession, use, and distribution of marijuana is legal.
The biggest difference is in convenience. Our CBD capsules are pre-measured at 25mg each, which means you know you're getting the very same amount, every single time. CBD oils aren't difficult to measure, but if you are seeking to calculate an exact mg serving size, you will have to watch in a reflection and count the number of drops you're using. In the event that you know the number of drops and exactly how much CBD is within a drop of the precise bottle you're using, you can calculate how many mg you're eating. If this appears like too much work for you, like we said tablets are simply easier and more convenient to deal with. Saturated fats are usually regarded as unhealthy. Their usage can increase your cholesterol levels and be bad for your cardiovascular health. Actually, according to the American Heart Association , products like coconut essential oil, which is made up of approximately 50 percent lauric acid , aren't even that healthy.
When CBD first appeared on my radar about 1 . 5 years ago, I was too cautious to check it out. I wasn't clear about its purported benefits and whether it was safe for me to consider. But desperate times demand desperate measures, so on this particular school holiday, I reached for the dropper of Reset CBD oil that had been sitting down on my kitchen counter for two weeks. CBD oil is derived from hemp plants and contains less than 0.3% THC - under the legal limit. It is a compound that activates the endocannabinoid (ECS) system in every mammals, including both canines and people. The ECS functions with the cardiovascular, digestive, and neurological body systems, as well as playing a part in the body's anti-inflammatory response. Since commercial hemp is naturally rich in Cannabidiol many people consider commercial hemp products as an alternative to medical marijuana, because contrary to medical marijuana, products created from commercial hemp is safe and legal. They are created relating to federal requirements and are stated in FDA-registered facilities within the US.
In South Africa, 1000 folks from cities were interviewed. Hemp oil contains a good amount of gamma-linolic acid, which is proved to assist in preserving hormonal balance. GLA is incredibly helpful for women and can assist in easing the signs or symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Hemp oil was traditionally used for treating pain related to menstruation. For the ANC to remain relevant and sort of important to its polity, its leaders have gone into into a media blitz and are attempting to paint a positive picture of the ANC, from 2014 for an eternal imagined future. Maybe it is true, for I find that the folks of South Africa wasn't to keep carefully the ANC in place; but what I am learning from the people is they are racking your brains on ways to eliminate today's and corrupt cadre using their kingly perches, and replace them with people who will serve them, the army of the indegent masses. This idea has not yet caught up in a massive way amongst the struggling people, but the people are slowly coming to realize that as a chance.
One positive impact for individuals who used to buy container illegally is that they now know precisely what they are getting, including if pesticides were used, the THC & CBD content, where it was grown, the expected effects, etc. Presently we should discuss CBD essential oil. This is natural oil which is made by planning and extracting CBD from the cannabis herb. When this procedure is finished, at that time natural career oil is added in it to dilute it. Normally coconut or hemp seed oil is included for dilution. If you're searching for where you can buy CBD essential oil then you should look for CBD index There will be a complete set of all the locations near you to purchase the best CBD oil. Many people must have a lot of time on the hands to be deeply emotional concentrate on up or down part of Hell or Heaven. Alot of BS of Be All, in a la la Land of ignorance.
As well as the solvents in vape oils being potentially dangerous independently, the byproducts that can be created when the solvents are heated to high temperatures are also dangerous. For instance, heating system propylene glycol can create formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, and acetaldehyde, a possible carcinogen, both which are also within tobacco smoke, Benowitz says. The Kennel Club's key veterinary officer, Jerry Klein, said CBD is over-hyped" but appealing for treatments like treatment. He's hopeful that the growing market will result in more money being invested in research to verify uses. Fish oil has cardiovascular benefits, reducing inflammation and lowering cholesterol levels. But if you're trying to get pregnant, you may have more interest in fish oil's effects on something more imperative to reproductive function - sperm. While several pet and human studies have been conducted on the effects of fish essential oil on sperm, non-e have shown a rise in sperm fertility as an advantage.
Using some fantastic products like our CBD cream , CBD lotion , CBD oil , CBD capsules , takes longer, depending on how much you apply these. CBD hemp oil is the best essential oil to use for bare stomach, Fight with cancer, Fight Anxiety, Reduce Diabetes, Treat Sleep Problems with Cannabis. CBD is obtained from the cannabis vegetable. Commonly, cannabis flower is known as weed or hemp predicated on the degree of THC. It is important to remember that legal hemp vegetation mustn't contain more than 0.3% THC, relating to Farm Bill. CBD, which is also known as cannabidiol, is a substance that is extracted from hemp or cannabis herb. This substance is thought to convenience inflammation and stress and anxiety. It's important to know that CBD doesn't get you high in any way because it has no THC, which is the element accountable for getting people high. People round the world use essential oil with CBD to treat menstrual pains, persistent pains, stress, and insomnia. However, its use is still not legal worldwide and is yet to be approved by the FDA. Generally in most states, the utilization of CBD is completely legal, and people grow hemp plants openly.

Many people have lost their lives to smoking marijuana. One of the main side effects of it is that it cause a unexpected increase in heartrate if you are not careful which can result in a fatal coronary attack. If you reside in a state where marijuana is legal for both medicinal and recreational use, you should have access to CBD oil, too. No studies have yet founded omega-3 fatty acids as a factor or putative treatment for IBS. However, it is known that omega-3 deficiency can have significant results on the anxious and immune system systems thought to be involved in leading to IBS. A 2009 research by Clarke, et al., found an increase in pro-inflammatory products of polyunsaturated fatty acids in females with severe IBS, suggesting that omega-3 supplementation can help.
However, hemp farmers hardly ever modify the seed. CBD oil comes from these legal hemp plant life. Made from EU-certified hemp crops in Cooley Mountains of Ireland and produced without fungicides, pesticides or herbicides, Celtic Blowing wind is a worthwhile first-time choice if you are wanting to try a CBD essential oil. Our aim is to heal people the nature designed way, deliver only pure, organic products, and inspire people to remain healthy. For nutritional and beauty uses, always buy chilly pressed hemp essential oil. Unrefined hemp oil is nutty flavored and green in color. Did you know that cold-pressed hemp essential oil includes 25 times more Omega 3s than olive oil and fifty percent the saturated excess fat? It also experienced an increased content of Omega 3, 6 & 9 than every other culinary essential oil. Never cook with hemp essential oil. Since it has a minimal smoke point, any vitamins and minerals is quickly damaged. Instead, mix it cbd suisse up into a delicious salad dressing or blend with herbs to enjoy as a drop for crusty French bread.

We had Co-Founder and CMO, Amanda Denz answer or Spotlight Series q and a to learn more.
Connect with Save on Instagram, Twitter and on their Facebook Page.
How did you get involved in the cannabis industry?
Through Sava. In 2015, my co-founder Andrea Brooks had an amazing idea and was ready to make it a reality. I have a background in web design and marketing, so she asked if I’d build the initial version of our e-commerce site. We started Sava in her kitchen, and over the last four years it has been a wild ride where we’ve grown into a company with nearly 30 employees!
Tell us a little bit about your product or service
Sava brings high quality cannabis to your doorstep. Our selection of cannabis topicals, tinctures, edibles, concentrates, and flowers, are all available for delivery in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we provide the support and education you need to use cannabis for wellness and pleasure. We truly believe in the power of this plant, and are on a mission to share that with everyone.
What time does your day typically start and what does a normal day look like to you?
I generally wake up around 7:00 am to my husband bringing me a cup of coffee in bed. I try to meditate, do a little exercise, and eat a solid breakfast before diving into work. As Sava is growing fast, I generally work hard most days. Before diving in, I try to set one big goal for the day - not something from my daily to-do list, but some small part of a larger goal; one that could easily get lost in the daily shuffle but if accomplished, will move a larger project forward. Once I settle on that, and plan when I’m going to do it, I start by going through as many emails as possible. I try my best to stack meetings into a few days a week, and do deeper work on other days. So, depending on what kind of day I have ahead, I dive into either meetings or some bigger project by 10am. I usually take a break around 4pm for a bit, try to go outside, and then catch up on emails until 6pm or 7pm. Then I make dinner, relax for a bit, and go to bed around 11pm. Right now my life is mostly work, but that’s what it takes to lead a rapidly growing company.
What is your vision for your company going forward?
We want to expand into more areas of California, and we want to build out our educational tools and events so we can teach as many people as possible about this amazing plant.
What would an ideal post prohibition society look like to you?
One where cannabis is on the menu for social relaxation just as much as alcohol. One where people understand and utilize cannabis for things like sleep, pain, anxiety, instead of addictive pharmaceuticals. One where those in prison for marijuana-related convictions are released and can start to heal from that grave societal mistake.
What was your first experience with cannabis like?
I smoked with friends as a young adult but, as is common with many people, I was turned off by how intense some of the experiences were. While I admittedly had some fun times with a ridiculously strong pot brownie in college, I was eventually turned off by the unpredictability of the whole experience. I took a break, deciding it wasn’t for me. But in my late 20s, I began to re-explore, trying different strains and smaller doses. Once I learned I could dial in my experience, using a range of products for varying outcomes - sleep, energy, relaxation, creativity, etc - I began adding cannabis back into my life, this time with more purpose and intention.
Tell us about some of the challenges you face working in the cannabis industry
As CMO, I’m ever-frustrated by the restrictions on how I can advertise. Not having access to paid social ads, etc., is a challenge, but we’ll get there! In the meantime, it forces us to be creative.
What are some solutions you've found?
It’s all about content!
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about cannabis?
With an understanding of the plant, you really can dial in your experience! Too many people think edibles equal that crazy time they had in college, where they were so high they felt like they were in outer space. We are refining our understanding of cannabinoids, terpenes, dosing, etc., so you can have a strong, medium, or mild experience of relaxation, stimulation, etc. I really believe there is a cannabis experience for everyone, and I’d like to help them find it.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about your product or service?
Everyone should know that any product purchased from Sava is one that we feel comfortable putting in our bodies and recommending to our friends. Our top concern is quality - where it’s sourced from, how it’s made, what other ingredients are used, etc.
If you could go back in time and do it all over again, what (if anything) would you do differently?
One real challenge of managing a growing business is navigating the decisions around when to hire more people. The cycle generally goes like this - we are all overloaded with work, we hire more people, we feel relief, we grow, we are all overloaded with work . . . repeat. We’ve been through this cycle several times now, and are better able to get ahead of being insanely overloaded and hire people ahead of that, but it took a little while to learn to read the signs earlier in the cycle. This knowledge only comes with knowing your business, but if I could go back in time and talk to 2017 Amanda, I would tell her how to get ahead of it earlier.
What is your favorite way to consume cannabis?
Primarily topicals, tinctures, and edibles. Occasionally vaping. I like the ability to titrate my dose, and who doesn’t love the relaxation that rubbing cannabis all over your achy muscles brings?
Concentrate or flower? Why?
While I love touching, smelling, looking at flower, I really don’t like to smoke because I don’t like smoke in my mouth or lungs. In general, I ingest my cannabis via tincture or edible, but will also vape concentrates.
Do you think cannabis legalization will change the world for the better? Why?
Absolutely. We all need to relax and take things a notch down at times. Doing so promotes wellness for individuals, as well as those around them. I also think this plant can be used for a myriad of ailments instead of harmful pharmaceuticals, and I do believe cannabis has a role to play in helping us turn the opioid epidemic around.
What advice would you offer to another woman who is looking to get into the industry?
There is a lot of opportunity in the cannabis space right now and things can move very fast. Take the time to find the right team to support your endeavor, and then go for it!

What is CBD oil for cats? It definitely doesn’t cause a “high” and give your cat the munchies. Before going into CBD oils for cats, particularly how and why CBD oil can help cats, let’s look at what exactly CBD is.
Breaking Down CBD

“Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a cannabinoid — a naturally occurring compound found in both hemp and cannabis (cannabis is also referred to as marijuana),” says Jodi Ziskin, director of communications with Treatibles in Petaluma, California. Hemp and marijuana are “Both members of the Cannabis sativa plant and share similarities but have very distinct differences due to each plant’s biological structure,” says Jon Neveloff, partner with King Kanine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Here’s a helpful analogy: Creamed corn and popcorn come from the same plant but are quite different.
Understanding CBD and THC
To drill down further, “Cannabidiol (CBD) is a molecule found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis is a plant species with a long history of use by humans,” according to Grace Kaucic, digital marketing specialist at Bluebird Botanicals in Louisville, Colorado. “Currently, there’s a legal definition that separates the cannabis species in the United States. If a cannabis plant contains more than 0.3 percent THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive molecule that makes users ‘high’), then it’s classified as marijuana.”
Understanding THC is critical. “THC exists in large quantities in cannabis plants — it’s the cannabinoid that’s responsible for most of the psychoactive effects that cause cannabis users to get, and feel, ‘high,’” Jon says. “CBD is non-psychoactive and will not cause a ‘high.’”
Adds Jodi, “THC can be toxic to pets, causing static ataxia and many other very unpleasant and even life-threatening reactions.”
According to Grace, “If a cannabis plant contains less than 0.3 percent THC, it’s considered hemp.” And, yes, that’s the same hemp plant that grows the fibers used for rope or fabric. In short, marijuana is cultivated from plants with high levels of THC, while hemp and CBD are cultivated from plants with barely any THC.
That doesn’t make hemp synonymous with CBD. “Hemp oil does not necessarily contain any CBD, or it may be naturally occurring in negligible quantities,” says Heidi Hill, Holistic Hound founder and trained homeopath based in Berkeley, California. “This is why it is important to seek out products that provide the actual CBD content on the label.”
Speaking of terms, some companies opt to advertise their products using “whole hemp extract” or a similar term instead of “CBD.” This is because of previous regulatory issues that the 2018 Farm Bill helped resolve on a federal level. (See Why The 2018 Farm Bill Matters below.) Terminology is still in flux as this industry and legal issues continue to evolve.
How CBD Oil for Cats Can Help Your Kitty
Now that you’ve learned what CBD is, next up is what CBD oil for cats can do and how your cat may benefit.
“In my experience, CBD/hemp has been helpful in treating arthritis, epilepsy, stress, chronic upper respiratory infections and asthma,” says Angie Krause, DVM, with Boulder Holistic Vet in Boulder, Colorado. “It has also been effective in appetite stimulation. It may also be beneficial for pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel disease. Cats have very little pharmaceutical options available to treat chronic pain. Hemp has been life changing for many of my patients.”
Several manufacturers of CBD oil for cats also cited wellness benefits for these conditions:
Anxiety
GI tract issues
IBD
Inflammation
“While there is still more research to be done on CBD for animals, the anecdotal evidence is compelling and the testimonials we receive on a daily basis are astounding,” Heidi says.
Dosing CBD Oil for Cats
When it comes to CBD oil for cats, drug dosages are based on a cat’s weight, age and severity of the condition. Most manufacturers use that approach, as does Dr. Krause. “I start kitties around 0.2 to 0.5 mg/kg twice daily and increase as needed. An average 10-pound kitty should start with around 1 mg of CBD twice daily. I give my kitties up to 5 to 6 mg twice daily.”
Heather B. Loenser, DVM, senior veterinary officer with the American Animal Hospital Association in Lakewood, Colorado, provides an alternative viewpoint and advises cat owners to discuss this with their veterinarian. “Unfortunately, there’s still more we don’t know about CBD therapy in cats than what we do know. I suspect within my practice lifetime, we will have solid data on what dose of CBD treats various conditions. However, at this point, most of what exists on the topic is anecdotal. I support cat owners being proactive about their cats’ care but caution against medicating with CBD without a thorough discussion with their veterinarian on data-driven treatments first.”
The weight — and dosage — of a cat versus a dog can vary wildly, of course. But if you are already using CBD oil for your dog, your cat can take the same formula. (Although it’s always good to double check with your veterinarian.)
“The good news is that there is no difference in dog CBD to cat CBD,” Jon says. “The difference would be in the other ingredients that the CBD is suspended in or combined with. We are conscious of creating products for both species since many homes have both animals that can share in the natural wellness products that we create.”
Their common biology makes this an option. “All mammals contain an endocannabinoid system, which was discovered about 25 years ago,” Grace says. “This important signaling system runs on cannabinoids like CBD. That’s why CBD oil seems to be so helpful for both humans and cats (and your other furry companions!) because we share this system together.”
Administering CBD Oil for Cats

Obviously cats are different, which includes not eating every food or treat that comes their way. “Cat owners are always looking for a product that is palatable and easy to administer, as cats are often more particular when it comes to treats and supplements,” Heidi says.
CBD oil comes in a variety of delivery methods — primarily oil, tinctures or treats. (A tincture is the distilled liquid from the plant, to which an oil is often added, usually taken in small amounts via a dropper.) For cats, some companies add catnip or salmon oil for palatability.
Giving CBD oil to your cat orally, or often called sublingually (under the tongue — more terms!), is preferred by some, but there are topical applications, as well. For the outside-in approach, Heidi recommends rubbing the oil in the tips of your cat’s ears.
“I prefer oral administration for best absorption,” Dr. Krause says. “However, there are anecdotal reports of improvement of oral tumors improving with topical application. Wounds and tumors may benefit from topical hemp/CBD application. However, we have no evidence this can reduce tumor size.”
Chelsea Gennings, vice president of business development and special projects of Pet Releaf, in Littleton, Colorado, says, “When looking for a topical product, cat parents should look for skin-penetrating ingredients included alongside the hemp extract.”
Lauren Brychell, marketing coordinator with cbdMD in Charlotte, North Carolina, adds, “Although it may be tricky to put the drops directly into your cat’s mouth, that would be the preferred method. Applying CBD oil directly to their food is also an easy method of application for cats.”
Once your cat has consumed the CBD oil, Grace says it takes about 20 minutes to get into the system with the effects tending to last for a few hours.
Beware Other Ingredients in CBD Oil for Cats
While your dog and cat may be able to share CBD oil formulas, don’t risk sharing your own. Some human CBD products include ingredients not safe for pets.
“It’s important to know the source of the hemp, the extraction process and any added ingredients,” Dr. Krause says. “A guaranteed analysis should also be readily available. I understand some have chocolate, xylitol or alcohol in them. All three of these ingredients would make the product unsafe for animals.”
What You’ll Pay for CBD Oil for Cats
As for the cost of CBD oil for cats, prices vary. “Currently you can expect to pay $0.10 to $.30 per mg of CBD,” Dr. Krause says. “Hemp is expensive! However, with the Farm Bill passing, hemp will become more readily available, and I am hopeful that the cost will decrease over the next five years.”
What to Ask Before Buying CBD Oil for Cats
Like any product, there are different CBD oil companies and formulas for cats. Before you commit to a particular brand of CBD oil for cats, consider how you like its approach in general, and specifically how it relates to CBD oil.
“Know where the hemp is grown,” recommends Angie Krause, DVM, with Boulder Holistic Vet in Boulder, Colorado. “U.S. hemp grown organically is preferred. Extraction technique is very important. For cats, I prefer CO2 extraction. This ensures there is no harmful chemical residues. A guaranteed analysis should be available from the manufacturer to quantify the concentration of CBD in each ml.”
Additionally, Chelsea Gennings, VP of business development and special projects of Pet Releaf, in Littleton, Colorado, recommends you ask the following questions when comparing CBD products to help you make the best selection for your cat:
Where is their hemp grown and can they prove it?
If claiming organic, do they have the necessary certifications to support those claims?
What extraction method are they using and do they have consistent solvent testings to prove no residual chemicals are in the final product?
How much CBD is in their products and do they have consistent third-party testings to confirm these amounts?
A final look at terminology — some manufacturers tout CBD isolate while others say full spectrum is better. Here’s the difference and an industry professional’s take on each:
Full spectrum, or whole plant, CBD contains all other cannabinoids found in the marijuana plant, including minute amounts of THC. “We refer to our active ingredient as ‘full spectrum hemp oil’ because there is more than just CBD,” says Jodi Ziskin, director of communications with Treatibles in Petaluma, California. “We include supporting cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids that are naturally occurring to provide the entourage effect, thereby increasing the efficacy of the CBD.” CBD isolate is purified CBD that has been extracted from the marijuana plant and isolated, hence the name, from the other cannabinoids.
“Our knowledge about CBD and its benefits are well-established, but we are just beginning to learn about the possible benefits of other compounds in the hemp plant. To claim the benefit of a full spectrum product over CBD itself, is premature,” says Joshua Sosnow, DVM, owner of North Scottsdale Animal Hospital and Desert View Animal Hospital, and co-founder of CompanionCBD.
Why the 2018 Farm Bill Matters When It Comes to CBD Oil for Cats
President Trump signed the Farm Bill into law on December 20, 2018, legalizing cultivating and producing industrial hemp (which contains less than 0.3 percent THC). Photography ©ZUMA Press, Inc. | Alamy Stock Photo.
In December 2018, President Trump signed the much anticipated 2018 Farm Bill into law. And this is something that can affect cat owners from farm houses to townhouses regarding CBD. In short, the Farm Bill officially legalizes cultivating and producing industrial hemp and removing the crop from the federal list of controlled substances.
That last part may also free up your veterinarian to be able to discuss CBD oil more in depth with you. The Federal Drug Enforcement Administration named cannabis and cannabinoid products as Schedule I controlled substances, with no accepted medical use. That hindered veterinarians’ ability to administer or prescribe them. Some vets opted not to talk about CBD as a treatment because of these restrictions.
“Now that the Farm Bill has passed, I believe this will not be an issue moving forward,” says Angie Krause, DVM, with Boulder Holistic Vet in Boulder, Colorado. “Hemp is legal at a federal level, and each state will decide how they want to regulate hemp. If a state declares hemp illegal, it may limit the veterinarian’s ability to prescribe or discuss hemp/CBD.”
The Farm Bill will:
Define industrial hemp broadly to cover all parts of the Cannabis plant including seeds, derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, etc. as long as it has a THC level of 0.3 percent or less.
Remove hemp completely from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
Make the USDA the sole federal regulatory agency overseeing hemp cultivation.
Authorize and fund hemp research as part of the Supplemental and Alternative Crops program and the Critical Agricultural Materials Act. Regarding that research, Heidi Hill, Holistic Hound founder and trained homeopath in Berkeley, California, says, “We are thrilled with this victory … This decision will also fund and allow long-overdue research into the many health and wellness benefits of this amazing plant.”
The Bottom Line on CBD Oil for Cats
These are some of the basics of CBD and what to keep in mind when it comes to CBD oil for cats. Not surprisingly, there is much more you can learn. Decide what’s most important to you, then do your homework and buy accordingly.
