What is a Pressure Switch?
A pressure switch is an electromechanical device that can monitor the pressure inside a system or vessel. Upon surpassing or failing below a set pressure level, it can turn a connected electrical circuit on or off, thereby turning a mechanical or electronic action on or off. Pressure switches have a crucial function in the safety of systems as well as the prevention of over-pressure and under-pressure conditions with respect to smooth running operations, ensuring the regulation of machineries and processes.
These devices can be used in any industry which involves HVAC, automotive manufacturing, oil and gas industries, all for monitoring and controlling pressure systems.
How Do Pressure Switches Work?
Pressure switches work with a pressure-sensitive diaphragm or piston in a housing. When the pressure in a system increases or decreases, it acts on the diaphragm or piston. The movement of the diaphragm or piston then activates an electrical switch that is in contact with an external circuit. The switch can break or make the circuit based on whether the pressure is above or below the set point.
The device usually has an adjustable setpoint, which the operator can use to determine the desired pressure range. If the pressure goes beyond this value, the switch will turn on and perform its intended function, such as switching off a pump or turning on a safety valve.
Key Components of a Pressure Switch:
Pressure Sensing Element: It is usually a diaphragm, piston, or bourdon tube that responds to the changed pressure. It converts the mechanical force into a signal that causes electrical switch.
Electrical Contacts: Open or close when the pressure reaches a specified point. This connects the switch to the control circuit.
Setpoint Adjustment Mechanism: a screw or knob that the user uses to set the desired pressure threshold to activate or deactivate the switch
Housing: an enclosure designed to protect the internal parts of the switch from environmental influences, such as dust, moisture, and temperature extremes.
Benefits of Using Pressure Switches:
Safety: Pressure switches prevent damage to the system and ensure safe operation by causing shutdowns or alarm conditions when the pressure exceeds the predetermined limits.
Efficiency: The pressure switches ensure the efficient working of systems because they keep the pressure optimal, thereby reducing energy consumption and wear on components.
Automation: Pressure switches can be integrated into automated systems that provide real-time pressure monitoring and control without manual intervention.
Reliability: A well-designed pressure switch provides reliable operation in hostile environments, thus minimizing the requirement for frequent maintenance and reducing downtime.
Pressure switches are important elements used in a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications ensuring that pressure levels fall into acceptable, efficient, and safe ranges. It might work with HVAC systems, hydraulic machinery, or even production of oil and gas where in the process a pressure switch is an important factor preventing breakdowns, enhancing the general performance, and guaranteeing safety. From factory assembly lines to conveyor belts and complex robotics, PLCs ensure that motors run smoothly, efficiently, and safely. This blog will dive into the basics of PLC motor control, its importance, and how it is transforming industries today.
What is PLC Motor Control?
PLC motor control refers to the use of a Programmable Logic Controller to operate and regulate the functioning of motors in an automated system. Motors are a key component in many industrial processes, providing the necessary mechanical movement or power to various machines. A PLC acts as the brain behind motor control, processing inputs, executing programmed logic, and sending commands to start, stop, or adjust motor speed and direction.
The primary role of a PLC in motor control is to ensure that motors function as required while minimizing human intervention. In simpler terms, PLCs make sure that motors operate at the right time and under the correct conditions, which increases productivity, reduces downtime, and improves overall efficiency.
Components of PLC Motor Control
When dealing with PLC motor control, it’s essential to understand the main components that make up the system:
PLC Unit: The central processor where the control logic is stored. The PLC monitors inputs, executes programmed instructions, and controls outputs to regulate the motor.
Motor: This is the device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to perform work, such as rotating a conveyor belt or moving machinery parts.
Sensors and Actuators: These devices provide feedback to the PLC about the motor’s current state (e.g., speed, position). Sensors help the PLC determine when to activate or deactivate the motor.
Power Supply: Motors require electrical power to function, and the PLC manages this through relays, contactors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs), depending on the type of motor and system.
Wiring and Communication: Connections between the PLC, motor, and other components must be carefully planned to ensure proper communication and control.
How Does PLC Motor Control Work?
The working of PLC motor control can be broken down into several simple steps:
Input Collection: The PLC collects data from various sensors that monitor the motor and its surroundings. This could include information about motor speed, position, temperature, or load.
Program Execution: Based on the logic programmed into the PLC, it processes the input data. The logic dictates the actions that need to be taken based on the motor’s current state and the desired outcome. For example, if a sensor detects that a motor is overheating, the PLC might trigger an automatic shutdown.
Output Signals: Once the program logic is executed, the PLC sends the appropriate output signals to the motor’s control circuit. This could involve starting the motor, changing its speed, reversing direction, or stopping it altogether.
Continuous Monitoring: The PLC continuously monitors the system and makes real-time adjustments to ensure the motor runs optimally. If any issues arise, such as a sudden drop in power or overload, the PLC can react instantly to protect the motor and system.
Importance of PLC Motor Control in Industrial Automation

Anxiety is a universal experience, something that many of us face at different stages of life. Whether triggered by personal challenges, overwhelming work demands, or life’s uncertainties, anxiety can affect the mind and body in profound ways. While modern medicine offers various treatments, meditation has emerged as a powerful, natural remedy for managing anxiety. In this blog, we will explore how meditation can be an effective tool for anxiety treatment, backed by science and centuries of practice, to help you live a wise and happy life.
Tumblr media
Chapter 1: Understanding Anxiety
Before diving into meditation as a treatment, it’s essential to understand what anxiety is and how it impacts your well-being.
1.1 What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is your body's natural response to stress. It's a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life, but when it becomes constant, excessive, or overwhelming, it may develop into an anxiety disorder. Symptoms of anxiety can include restlessness, rapid heart rate, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and even physical issues like headaches and muscle tension.
1.2 How Anxiety Affects the Mind and Body
Anxiety is both a mental and physical condition. It causes the mind to become restless, filled with worry and negative thoughts. Physically, it triggers the body’s fight-or-flight response, releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. This response is useful in short bursts but harmful when it becomes chronic, leading to issues like insomnia, high blood pressure, and weakened immunity.
1.3 Anxiety Disorders
There are several types of anxiety disorders, including:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Characterized by chronic anxiety, worry, and tension, even when there’s little or no reason to feel this way.
Panic Disorder: Involves sudden, intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions (panic attacks).
Social Anxiety Disorder: A fear of social situations that can cause overwhelming worry and self-consciousness.
Specific Phobias: Intense fear of a specific object or situation.
Chapter 2: Why Meditation is Effective for Anxiety
2.1 The Science Behind Meditation and Anxiety Relief
Meditation is a practice that trains your mind to focus and redirects your thoughts. It’s been used for centuries across various cultures to promote mental clarity and emotional stability. Modern science has confirmed that meditation can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and even change how the brain responds to stress.
Research shows that meditation activates the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for reasoning, decision-making, and emotional regulation. It also decreases activity in the amygdala, the part of the brain that triggers fear and anxiety. Regular meditation practices can reduce the production of stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and improve overall mental well-being.
2.2 Meditation’s Impact on Stress and the Fight-or-Flight Response
Anxiety often keeps the body in a state of heightened alertness, triggering the fight-or-flight response. Meditation helps deactivate this response, promoting relaxation and reducing the tension that builds up in your muscles and mind. By practicing meditation regularly, you can teach your body to remain calm, even in stressful situations.
2.3 How Meditation Helps Reframe Negative Thought Patterns
One of the ways meditation helps treat anxiety is by interrupting negative thought loops. People with anxiety often fall into patterns of catastrophic thinking, where small problems feel overwhelming. Meditation helps you become aware of these thoughts without attaching to them, allowing you to see them as temporary mental events rather than an accurate reflection of reality.
Chapter 3: Types of Meditation for Anxiety Treatment
There are various forms of meditation, each offering unique benefits for managing anxiety. Let’s explore some of the most effective methods.
3.1 Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness meditation is one of the most researched forms of meditation for anxiety relief. It involves focusing on the present moment and observing your thoughts and emotions without judgment. When anxiety arises, mindfulness helps you become aware of it, allowing you to observe the feeling without being swept away by it.
How to Practice Mindfulness Meditation for Anxiety:
Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed.
Sit in a relaxed position with your back straight and your hands resting on your lap or knees.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Notice the sensation of the air entering and leaving your body.
When thoughts or feelings of anxiety arise, simply acknowledge them without judgment. Gently bring your attention back to your breath.
Continue this practice for 5 to 20 minutes, gradually increasing the time as you become more comfortable.

Loving-kindness meditation focuses on cultivating feelings of love, compassion, and kindness towards yourself and others. This practice is particularly effective for reducing self-criticism and calming the mind during periods of anxiety.
How to Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation for Anxiety:
Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths.
Begin by silently repeating positive phrases towards yourself, such as “May I be happy, may I be safe, may I be free from suffering.”
Gradually extend these feelings of compassion towards others, starting with someone you love, then a neutral person, and finally someone with whom you have difficulty.
As you focus on spreading positive energy, notice how your anxiety softens.
3.3 Body Scan Meditation
Body scan meditation is a technique that involves paying attention to different parts of your body, releasing tension, and becoming aware of any areas where anxiety may manifest physically. This practice is beneficial for grounding yourself and calming your nervous system.
How to Practice Body Scan Meditation for Anxiety:
Lie down in a comfortable position with your eyes closed.
Start by focusing your attention on your toes, noticing any tension or sensations.
Slowly move your awareness up through your legs, abdomen, chest, arms, and head.
As you focus on each area, consciously relax your muscles and breathe deeply.
End the meditation by scanning your entire body and noticing how you feel.
3.4 Breath-Focused Meditation
Breath-focused meditation is one of the simplest yet most effective forms of meditation for anxiety. By focusing on your breath, you can quickly calm your nervous system and bring your attention away from anxious thoughts.
How to Practice Breath-Focused Meditation for Anxiety:
Find a quiet place to sit and close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in through your nose, allowing your belly to expand.
Exhale slowly through your mouth, letting all the air out.
Focus solely on the rhythm of your breath. When your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breathing.
Continue this practice for 5-10 minutes or longer if needed.
Chapter 4: Integrating Meditation into Daily Life for Anxiety Relief
4.1 Building a Consistent Meditation Routine
Consistency is key when using meditation to manage anxiety. It’s important to make meditation a part of your daily routine. Start with just a few minutes each day, then gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable. Mornings are often the best time for meditation because your mind is fresh, and it sets a calming tone for the rest of the day.
4.2 Combining Meditation with Mindful Living
In addition to formal meditation practices, mindfulness can be incorporated into your daily life to help manage anxiety. Simple tasks like walking, eating, or even brushing your teeth can become mindfulness practices when you pay full attention to the present moment. By bringing mindfulness into everyday activities, you create more opportunities to center yourself and reduce anxiety.
4.3 Using Meditation in Stressful Situations
Meditation can be particularly helpful in managing anxiety during stressful situations. When you feel anxiety rising, take a few moments to pause, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Even a short meditation break can help calm your nerves and allow you to approach challenges with a clearer mind.
Chapter 5: Overcoming Challenges in Meditation for Anxiety Treatment
5.1 Dealing with a Busy Mind
One of the most common challenges in meditation, especially for people with anxiety, is a busy, restless mind. If you find it difficult to focus during meditation, remember that it’s normal. The goal is not to stop your thoughts but to observe them without judgment and gently bring your attention back to your point of focus (such as your breath).
5.2 Being Patient with Yourself
Anxiety can make you feel impatient or frustrated when you don’t see immediate results. Meditation is a practice that unfolds over time, and its benefits may not be immediately obvious. Be kind to yourself, and trust that the practice will help reduce your anxiety with consistency.
5.3 Managing Physical Discomfort
Sitting still for meditation can sometimes cause physical discomfort, which may aggravate anxiety. If you feel uncomfortable, try adjusting your posture or lying down. The key is to find a position where your body is relaxed yet alert. You can also focus on body scan techniques to ease tension in specific areas.
Chapter 6: Complementing Meditation with Other Anxiety Treatments
6.1 Meditation and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a common treatment for anxiety disorders. When combined with meditation, it can be even more effective. While CBT helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns, meditation teaches you to observe those thoughts without getting caught up in them.
6.2 Meditation and Exercise
Physical exercise is another natural remedy for anxiety. Regular exercise releases endorphins, which are known to reduce stress and improve mood. By combining exercise with meditation, you can create a holistic approach to managing anxiety.
6.3 Meditation and Diet
A healthy diet can also play a role in reducing anxiety. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins support brain health and reduce inflammation, which can contribute to anxiety. Combining meditation with a balanced diet promotes overall mental and physical well-being.
Conclusion: Meditation as a Lifelong Tool for Anxiety Treatment
Meditation is not a quick fix, but it is a powerful tool that, when practiced consistently, can significantly reduce anxiety and promote a state of inner calm. By incorporating meditation into your daily routine, you’ll cultivate a deeper awareness of your mind, body, and emotions. Over time, you’ll develop the ability to navigate anxiety with greater ease, improving both your mental health and overall quality of life.

The Right Way to Use Vitamin C Serums
Vitamin C is a powerhouse ingredient for achieving glowing, youthful skin. Widely celebrated for their antioxidant properties and role in collagen production, Vitamin C creams, and serums are staples in skincare routines. However, even the best products can fall short of their potential if not used correctly. Let's explore common mistakes you might be making with your Vitamin C cream or serum and how to correct them for optimum results.
1. The Complex Chemistry: Avoid Mixing Vitamin C with Incompatible Ingredients
Mixing It Wrong: Vitamin C, particularly in serum form, is highly reactive with certain other ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, retinol, and AHAs/BHAs. These combinations can not only deactivate the efficacy of Vitamin C but also potentially irritate your skin. To leverage the best vitamin C cream(link opens in new tab/window) or serum effectively, use it separately from conflicting actives. Consider applying your Vitamin C product in the morning and others like retinol at night, or alternate their use on different days.
Tumblr media
2. Less Is More: Using the Right Amount of Vitamin C
Using Too Much: It’s easy to think that more product equals more benefit, but when it comes to concentrated serums like Vitamin C, this isn't the case. Using too much can lead to irritation and wastage of products. A pea-sized amount of cream or 2-3 drops of serum is generally sufficient for the entire face. This ensures you deliver enough Vitamin C to aid your skin without triggering inflammation or discomfort.
3. Preservation Is Key: Proper Storage of Vitamin C Products
Storing It Improperly: Vitamin C is notoriously unstable and can quickly degrade when exposed to light or air. To maintain its potency, store your vitamin C cream or serum in a cool, dark place, ideally in opaque, air-restrictive containers. If the product changes color or smells off, it might have oxidized, indicating it’s time to replace it.
4. The Shielding Effect: Importance of Pairing Vitamin C with Sunscreen
Skipping Sunscreen: While Vitamin C serums provide antioxidant protection against UV damage, they do not replace sunscreen. Always apply a broad-spectrum SPF over your Vitamin C serum during the day. This combination not only protects your skin but also enhances the efficacy of Vitamin C against photoaging and hyperpigmentation.
5. Patience Pays Off: Giving Vitamin C Time to Work
Being Impatient: Expecting immediate results from skincare products(link opens in new tab/window) is a common pitfall. Like many aspects of skincare, the benefits of Vitamin C build over time. Consistent use for several weeks is necessary to see significant changes in skin tone and texture. Patience is key—give your skin time to rejuvenate and respond to this powerful antioxidant.
Conclusion: Vitamin C creams and serums can be transformative for your skin, offering benefits that range from brightening your complexion to reducing the appearance of fine lines. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure that your Vitamin C product works effectively, helping you achieve a radiant, healthy complexion.

How a Home Alarm System works
The crime rate is higher today than ever before in the world. Although some regions may see a temporary improvement in crime rates due to government initiatives, the overall danger level is higher than it was 100 years ago. Additionally, burglaries are becoming more common. The problem is exacerbated by the fact criminals are advancing their technology and coming up with innovative ways to get around security and steal steel from us. Security companies have responded quickly, resulting in almost a race between thieves and burglars to get out of their homes.
A home alarm system is one way to keep thieves away from your home. It connects to your entry points, such as windows or doors, and then links them to an alarm. If someone attempts to break into your home without authorization, the alarm will sound and trigger. You will need to tell the installers which doors you would like the alarm to trigger when it is installed.

After the adt home alarm system has been installed, nobody will be able open their doors without raising the alarm. You will use a four-digit code to activate or set the alarm. The code will be entered when you set the alarm. This would indicate that the alarm has been set after you have locked all doors. You will also be given a time limit to enter the code again to deactivate your alarm.
Sometimes, a home alarm system may use other methods to protect the home. Infrared sensors can be used to trigger alarms in the event that someone moves around the home while the alarm system is active. There are many settings that you can make to your alarm system to enable you to control the various aspects.
The alarm will sound to alert others that something is happening on your property. They will either come and get you or call the police. The alarm is set to sound loud enough to deter trespassers. Sometimes, an alarm system for your home will be wired to VoiP to call emergency services, security service or the owner of the property to notify them that the alarm is on.
You can find the best alarm system for your home by shopping around. This will ensure that your family is safe and secure. These reviews can be found on the websites of national alarm companies. These reviews are often written by users. These reviews are often the best way to judge the product. They will be able to tell if the product is working or not. You should consider these things when you're looking for a home alarm system to monitor your house.

It's more like feeling different textures of heat. Like how light is radiation. Specific colors of light are just a wavelength apart. For sound, we don't actually see it, but if the sound is loud enough, deaf people can feel it, as a tactile sensation.
Light is way more delicate, because if you turn it up, to the point where an average person can feel it, it registers as pain, and heat.
Think if it as more of a gourmet thing. Most people never develop their palate for various foods, but some develop it to tell the most minor differences between brands, years of production, subtle high notes, etc.
Most people also don't learn to manually control their heartbeat, their adrenaline and endorphine secretion, which i know people can do, because i learned this when i was a teenager. Most people can learn to control the bloodflow and body heat to the surface of their skin, though it is dangerous, so much so that tibetan monks do this on mountain tops to regulate their temperature in sub zero temps but slapping wet sheets on their back and boiling them dry with their body. Probably has been discovered on accident many times, and likely the origin if spontaneous combustion legends.
But people cal do a lot. Houdini learned to manually control his esophagus to swallow a key and a lock, and unlock it. One guy taught his asshole to whistle. Most of the time you see extra cool people is when they overcome hardships, like armless people teaching themselves to write, play the piano or violin, or paint, with their feet. The fact they can do this means most anybody could, but we have no reason to try.
There was a guy who learned to trigger the bodies heat response, and he could over the course of a few minutes staring at his hands, cause them to form blisters all over, only to also be able to make them go away again.
I firmly believe that just about any natural response our body has, can be trained to activate and deactivate, at will, if given enough effort, and focus, and time. Humans have very little restrictions to our capacity in those areas, and are the most behaviorally adaptable animals in the world.

A while back, this post happened and I mentioned an excessively detailed response, and here it is, presenting a (more or less) physiologically reasonable process for the entire function and breakdown of Garak's implant in “The Wire”. This breaks down into three main parts: how the implant is supposed to function, what went wrong, and how it's fixed. I'll add a TLDR as well. There's a lot of assumptions made (namely that Cardassian physiology is more or less functioning like Earth mammalian physiology), determinations that characters don't necessarily know exactly what they're talking about, simplification of exceedingly complicated things, and terminology.
Before we get into headcanoning and speculating, let's cover what we know of the implant from the episode. The implant is situated in the “postcentral gyrus and has filaments that connect it to [the] entire central nervous system” and “was designed to stimulate the pleasure centres of [the] brain to trigger the production of vast amounts of natural endorphins” in case of torture. The first symptoms include clammy skin*, dyspnea (difficulty breathing), miosis (contracted pupils), high level of pain (specifically a headache, although potentially in other areas as well), and “some type of seizure”. Later on, there is mention of deterioration of the “cranial nerve cluster”, bradycardia (a slow heart rate, likely since treatment was a stimulant and cardiostimulator), and toxins accumulating in lymphatic tissues caused by an altered leukocyte molecular structure. After turning off the implant, synthetic leukocytes are required to cure lingering effects (the aforementioned toxins and altered leukocytes). (*Clammy skin refers to cool, pale, and sweaty skin, so if one is looking at a purely canon view, this does mean that Cardassians sweat. However, the idea of ectothermic Cardassians that thus don't sweat is pretty common, so it's possible that one could interpret this as thus referring solely to cool and pale skin, or, since Bashir is basing his assessment on solely visual examination, just paleness, likely in the mucous membranes of the conjunctiva and gum tissue)
Let's break this down a little, starting by getting some of the nonsense out of the way. Endorphins (which are by definition natural) aren't produced by any 'pleasure centers' of the brain, they come from the pituitary gland; 'cranial nerve cluster' is essentially meaningless (although I suppose that the brain could be considered a nerve cluster); and, unlike the episode suggests, leukocytes aren't molecules – they're cells and thus made out of countless molecules. Moving onto breaking down terminology that has actual meaning, the postcentral gyrus is a part of the brain (roughly the middle top) that contains the primary somatosensory cortex, which helps the brain know where sensory signals are coming from, including pain. So, good job writers, you did mention a brain region associated with pain sensing! The central nervous system (CNS) is the brain and spinal cord. Endorphins are a type of what are called endogenous opioids, opioids produced by the body itself. They have more or less the same effects as other opioids like morphine, so that's probably the best starting point for research on side-effects and withdrawal symptoms for anyone who wants to look into that. Most relevant is that they're an analgesic (pain killer) and increase the production and release of dopamine, the “happy chemical”. Lymphatic tissues are just the tissues of the lymphatic system, which is kind of like an extra liquid collection system and aids in immune responses by producing, processing, and storing immune cells (and fat transport, but that's extraneous here). Leukocyte is a generic umbrella term equivalent to 'white blood cell' and thus contains a lot of different types of cells doing different things. Dr. Bashir really should have been more specific there.
That's what we get from canon, so from here on out it's pure headcanoning based on science. Let's tackle the first part: how does the implant work in the first place?
If the implant's purpose is to make one immune to pain, it needs to accomplish two main things: first, detect when pain is happening, and second, do something to stop that pain from being sensed. We're going to need to cover some basic nociception (pain sensing) here. The first step in pain detection is that a neuron called a nociceptor detects something pain causing, namely temperature (fun fact: spicy foods feel hot because some chemicals in them activate heat pain nociceptors in the mouth), chemicals (particularly chemicals released by damaged cells), and getting damaged itself. The nociceptor then releases a neurotransmitter (chemical that neurons use to communicate with each other) called Substance P. Substance P is then picked up by a secondary neuron in the spinal cord that sends the message of pain up to various parts of the brain that spread the message around and eventually cause effects, include the actual sensing of the pain, telling the brain where the pain is (that's where the primary somatosensory cortex and postcentral gyrus come in), and inducing the fight-or-flight response. One part of the brain that gets the 'we're hurting!' signal and sends a message that eventually results in the release of endogenous opioids like endorphins, which in turn prevent Substance P from being released, thus cutting off the pain signal, as well as do the other opioid things.
To accomplish the first task of detecting pain, the implant most probably has sensors for Substance P. These would probably be those filaments connecting to the entire CNS – since the Substance P is released in the spinal cord, these sensing filaments kind of need to be covering it all to detect any incoming Substance P. The second task of cutting off that pain signal then functions simply by flooding the body with endorphins (and probably other endogenous opioids). These endorphins could be sourced in three ways: via some sort of storage within the implant, via the implant causing the body to produce more, or via the implant itself producing and releasing more. Having enough stored for constant release for multiple years seems unlikely, so we'll scratch off that possibility. Garak's dialogue does suggest that the implant causes the body itself to produce more endorphins, but I'm going to go with the third option because we're going to need truly excessive amounts of endorphins to fully kill off pain signals (and it'd likely be hard to get the body to produce that much) and because it makes it easier to explain what might go wrong.
And speaking of what might go wrong, let's now look at that. The first noticeable symptoms are pale/clammy skin, dyspnea, extreme pain, and miosis. Miosis is caused by opioids, and would thus be induced by the implant and extreme pain. The pale skin and dyspnea are consistent with the heart not pumping enough blood to all the tissues. Other related symptoms include fatigue and anxiety, which are consistent with Garak's behavior. This is also consistent with the later bradycardia. This sort of heart issue is generally associated with heart attacks and other failures of the heart muscles itself, but could be caused by anything interfering with the heart's function. Since heart rate is largely controlled by the CNS, disruptions to it (such as by, say, a malfunctioning cranial implant), could induce these symptoms. We later learn that there is also deterioration of neural tissue (or at least that's how I'm interpreting Garak's 'cranial nerve cluster' comment) and damage to the lymphatic system due to toxins caused by altered leukocytes. It seems logical that these toxins are also responsible for the neural tissue deterioration and the CNS effects on the heart.
The next obvious question then is what are these toxins? Here comes the most speculative bit: the toxins are an autoimmune response caused by the implant producing malformed endorphins that bind to and affect the receptors of mature cytotoxic T-cells and cause them to bind to Class I MHC molecules in the absence of foreign antigens and result in the destruction of healthy cells. That's a lot of terminology and concepts that I just threw out, so let's break all that down. Malformed endorphins would be just what they say on the tin – after working for so long, the implant starts making making mistakes when producing and releasing the endorphins. Cytotoxic T-cells are a subtype of a subtype of leukocytes that work by destroying any cells presenting the 'red flag' that they've been invaded: a bit of something foreign to the body held out by what are called Class I MHCs, which are found on all cells. They sometimes accidentally respond and bind to plain Class I MHCs, thus resulting in an autoimmune reaction wherein the immune system attacks the body it's supposed to be protecting. Normally, these malfunctioning cytotoxic T-cells are taken care of before they mature and actually go to work, but if mature T-cells are being modified (there's your 'altered molecular structure of leukocytes'), the main bulwark against this type of autoimmune attack is side-stepped. And thus we have a malfunctioning implant killing Garak, and being able to continue to do so even when deactivated – the modified cytotoxic T-cells are still there, doing damage, even if no more new ones are being created.
This brings us to the third and final part: aside form turning off the implant, how are all its ill effects stopped? The big issue here would be the modified cytotoxic T-cells still running around, killing cells. There is one other mechanism for stopping self-attacking T-cells: regulatory T-cells. In the proposed situation, the body just doesn't have enough circulating regulatory T-cells to take care of the modified cytotoxic T-cells. Thus, the synthesized Cardassian leukocytes are specifically Cardassian regulatory T-cells that then help get rid of all the dangerous cytotoxic T-cells, thus stopping the toxins they produce from continuing to damage and kill tissues and effectively curing Garak.
So that's a lot, covering the very complicated and not entirely understood areas of neurology and immunology, so there's an amount of oversimplification, and I wouldn't be surprised if I mixed up or missed something that completely topples this entire thing.
But the TLDR is: Garak's implant makes opioids, but then it malfunctions and starts to instead make toxins that cause Garak's body to attack itself. Turning off the implant stops the production of the toxins, but Garak's body is still attacking itself until the synthesized Cardassian leukocytes are administered and fix things.

o1. With which one of your friends do you spend the most time? With which friend do you spend the least amount of time? Would you like to change this in any way? I don’t really get to...spend time with my friends, in that sense. For very obvious reasons. But I talk to Angela and Reena the most. Andi and I talk a lot too, but not everyday.
Among my friends, I probably talk to my college group the least these days, but that’s mostly because 2/3 of them are pursuing law school, and the 1/3 have jobs and are as busy as I am. We’re still as tight as ever and our group chat becomes active at least once a week.
o2. What four states in the USA would you most like to visit? Which four countries would you most like to visit? States: Illinois, Louisiana, New York, Utah. Countries: Malta, Switzerland, Thailand, South Korea.
o3. If you have one, how often do you watch your favorite television show? How long has this show been your favorite? I’m not a big TV person, tbh. The closest thing to my favorite would be Friends, which I rewatch at least one episode of once a month though I used to watch it FAR more often than that, hahaha. I think I first hooked to it...I wanna say 2018?Or 2019. Sometime in between those years. o4. Would it bother you if your boyfriend hugged other females (think hypothetically if you don’t have one)? Why or why not? No. He’s allowed to have girl friends. The only reason it bothered me when it was Gabie was because we were both aware that her guy friends were genuinely into her. I never channeled my annoyance towards her though; I was definitely more pissed off at those guys for not learning how to back off when needed.
o5. If you had snow-days as a kid, how did you spend them? Do you like the snow, in general? We don’t have snow, but our equivalent would be days off school because of a typhoon. Anyway, I just spent them lounging around and mostly watching stuff on YouTube. In college I was a bit more diligent and would use the extra time to catch up on readings.
o6. Do you know anyone who does hard drugs? Would you ever befriend someone that did? Not that I am aware of. I probably wouldn’t befriend someone who did if we weren’t already close, because there’s no telling what kind of influence they would be on me.
o7. When was the last time that you were afraid for your life? Did this incident change you in any way? When I was really sick back in May. Not really, I just wanted to recover as quickly as possible.
o8. Do you enjoy taking pictures? Is it just for fun, or do you make an attempt at actual photography? I didn’t then, but it’s something I’m trying to do more often now. I’ve realized I have very few souvenirs from the last few years because I barely took photos then, so it sucks not being able to revisit memories and ending up forgetting others completely. I definitely don’t plan to take it so far as taking photography lessons; taking pictures from my own perspective and in my own style suffices.
o9. Have you ever had low self-esteem? How is your self-esteem now? Yeah, sure. I had a recent phase of it because of the breakup, but I’ve recovered from it. My self-esteem is a lot healthier and more stable these days.
o1o. When you see someone sickly-thin, what is your first thought? Nothing for the most part, but I would obviously be concerned if that person was starting to show worrying signs of malnutrition. Idrk what you mean by sickly-thin.
o11. Do hospitals make you nervous? Why or why not? Do you have any bad hospital experiences? Not really, only because I’ve rarely had to go there.
o12. What did you dress up as the last time you went Trick-or-Treating? Who went with you? I went as Sofie, my old best friend from high school.
o13. What is one thing you miss most from your childhood? What do you miss the least? The part about having less responsibilities and more time to just have fun and do whatever I want. But I didn’t really have a picture-perfect childhood either, so my list of things I don’t miss for sure trumps the list of stuff I do miss.
o14. What would be the biggest challenge involved in raising a child at your age? How to send them to a good school because I don’t make nearly enough to afford tuition for another person.
o15. If you happened to get pregnant before you were ready for children, how would you cope? Do you think your parents would support you and help you out? I don’t know, honestly; and the thought kind of scares me. I know my parents wouldn’t provide support whatsoever, so I’d have to claw my way to find it from other people who would be willing. I’d probably need to take an extra job to earn enough money to support us both.
o16. Have you ever had unprotected sex? What would you tell a young teen thinking about having unprotected sex? Yeah, but I was also with a girl, so...idk. I don’t have a lot of sexual experience either so I dunno what sort of advice to tell a teen other than ‘don’t do it,’ lmao.
o17. What are some gender double-standards anger you? All of them. < Yes.
o18. Other than the usual qualities (honesty, respect, etc), what are some attributes you want your BF/GF to possess? Patience in the sense that I tend to be sensitive, so if they crack a joke that I ended up getting hurt or offended by, or if I get triggered by something minor that would otherwise be normal for anyone else, I hope they are patient enough to ride the wave out with me. I didn’t experience that with my past partner, and was often told to just stop being sensitive.
o19. Do you still talk to the first person you ever dated? If not, would you want to? Why or why not? No, because doing so is detrimental to my well-being.
o2o. Five years ago, what was the most important thing in your life? How about the most important person? My relationship, barf. Gabie, another barf.
21. How would you describe your sexuality? Have you ever wondered whether or not you might be homo/bisexual? I’ve stopped caring about it. I say asexual to people just so I have an answer to say.
o22. Do you think that homosexual couples should be able to raise or adopt children? Why or why not? Yeah...because I don’t see why they can’t be granted that right?
o23. Think of your worst fear. What would you do if you were confronted with it right now? Hyperventilate.
o24. If you were to become a vegetarian, what meat-product would you miss the most? Have you ever been or wanted to be a vegetarian? Chicken wings or sandwiches. I’ve thought about it before, yes. It’s too expensive a lifestyle where I live, though.
o25. Do you think that someone’s sexuality is something that they can control? No.
o26. What do you like most about your favorite animal? They’re very friendly and always down to play. :)
o27. What is your favorite way to eat your favorite food? How often do you eat your favorite food item? Eating burgers by hand is always the best. I have one maybe once a month.
o28. What is something you are craving? Will this craving be satisfied? KFC’S DOUBLE DOWN. I’ll get one next week, when I get my next pay lol. The rest of my budget this week is already allotted for my mom’s birthday/JK’s belated birthday dinner tomorrow.
o29. What is the largest number of texts you have sent in a day? Do you often text this much? Ooooh, I dunno. Maybe around 200-300 in a day? My ex and I primarily communicated through text whenever we weren’t physically together, which was often as we were both students in different schools.
o3o. Do you like the holiday season? Why or why not? What could be better about it? Some parts of it I like, some parts of it I don’t. The latter mostly stems from insecurities I will feel from seeing other families on social media, who always seem to be having a better and fancier time than I am. It’s why I usually deactivate during Christmas so I don’t get to see posts that can affect my disposition.

Literacy and education are only a few variables in the average IQ equation. Cultural, economic, and epigenetic factors may be at play as well. Even how an individual is raised, or what they eat can have an impact. If you give a person an IQ test after they've been sleep deprived, then give them that same test after they've had eight hours of sleep, they're gonna have a better score.
I have a theory to answer your question, but it's dependent on where the highest and lowest IQ scores come from.
This is where epigenetics comes into play. Quick crash course, in case anyone reading doesn't know what epigenetics is - it's basically when certain genes get activated or deactivated by various stimuli. For example, someone may have a gene that makes their body produce more cortisol, making them more prone to anger, or even violent outbursts - but the gene is deactivated. That is, until they experience some sort of trauma that gives them a dramatic boost in cortisol, activating the gene. Now their cortisol production is always ramped up, and their anger is on a hair trigger.
The really interesting part, is that the now active cortisol production gene will also be active in any children they have after that point, and will remain active for several generations, unless an individual finds a way to deactivate it by altering their own behavior or environment.
That's just one example, but imagine someone who's been in survival mode for a long time, someone who has had to struggle against abuse and subjugation. The kinds of stress hormones that person would be living under tend to cause a decrease in IQ from extended exposure. Your brain is more concerned with just getting by than with learning or improving. Now imagine the epigenetic impact of this. Now imagine an entire group of people being affected like this.
Now, are there any people in South Africa who went through something like this in recent history? Might that explain why South African average IQ is so low, despite high literacy? Perhaps it's a people still recovering from generational trauma, and it's gonna take time and patience.

Trigger warning: issues of transphobia and racism are discussed and I get pretty heated in my discussion. Please turn away if you want :)
Alright I’m fucking pissed. As many of you know, in March a couple of blogs called out the POTO fandom for being racist and transphobic while grasping at straws to do so. I’m not saying that don’t have a couple of transphobes and racists here, not saying that at all. But the fact that you were going mainly off of guilt by association or straight up making lies or assumptions off of shit you heard from others just made it into a flying dumpster fuck of a witch hunt. Wow. And the few people who were actually perpetrating their bigotry got off relatively scot free. All you really did was alienate a bunch of innocent fandom goers from a relatively small fandom. Great job!!!!
Hell you went after Madame Faust for a FanFiction that was just edgy at best. Pretty sure they just deleted/deactivated their accounts. The slave trade was a disgusting instance of imperialism but um they weren’t glorifying it? Raoul’s family just happened to take part in it in the FanFiction (best to my knowledge). Never read it personally but that’s what I got from the summary. If I’m wrong I apologize. Even so I didn’t see any so called “glorification.” It’s almost like it happened in history (it did). Huh? Are we trying to censor history now? All you did was act like a bunch of primary school children and attack them for a piece of edgy FANFICTION. Maybe we could of at least gone about it through more productive ways, yeah? Like informing them why it crossed a boundary in a civil and calm manner instead of attacking them and going right for the throat. Idk just a thought. Or the trans fic that Mertans made (sorry if I spelt it wrong). Like what?? Sure they should of included trigger warnings but like they just highlighted the abuse that trans people face and incorporated it into a FanFiction. I didn’t know that the rule was we actually had to fit all the criteria of our characters to post things. Again, edgy but like there’s nothing wrong with that. Or going after people who simply book marked the pieces???????? That was so fucked up. Seriously, if you want to use that anger, how about we go after the actual racists and homophobes on Twitter such as Mr. Pumpkin Head instead.
Also attacking people for having simple opinions on the matter simply was hella fucking weird. It just screamed to me that you wanted to be woke and bring attention to yourself. Or silencing people by calling them racist or transphobic when they clearly weren’t. Or attacking people on the sole basis of their white heritage (even perceived some of the time). What…? Y’all literally just barged into this fandom one day, made a bunch of accusations, then disappeared. And not even that great of ones. Reminded me of the Hamilton FanFiction drama. Sheesh. Also I’m non-binary and gay if that matters. Not a POC (mostly white) so I tried to kept things at the base of my knowledge. Maybe I over stepped but damn I have been bottling this in for too long. Hate on this if you want. Call me names. Make more false accusations. I don’t really care. I’m not returning to this account likely anyways after I’ve said what I needed to. Have fun.

Chillin Homie got hospitalized AGAIN due to depression and panic disorder. (I know this made me easily upset everytime I saw upsetting things while I am recovering but I had to tell this urgently.) I hope he will apologize truthfully for his past mistakes because I am so worried. I don't know what's next and I don't want to get much worse than this. Anyway, how's your past weeks going? ~Queennie (from the deactivated Tumblr account @heart-bleeding-autism-angel)
OK so here are some facts (some of this might be WILDLY triggering so definitely tw:suice tw:suicide attempt tw:suicidal ideation tw:drug abuse and I will put these in the tags as well):
1. Chillin Homie DID apologize for the whole live that he did. He made a whole apology as well as explained why his mental health has been declining. His label Groovl1n apologized as well.
2. Chillin Homie was ALREADY overdosed on that live! He had already taken AT LEAST 35 pills. There’s translation that say that by his own admission he took at least forty (I don’t 100% trust this for reasons I’ll explain in a bit). He only took like...5 on the live (DEFINITELY less than 10). As soon as he spoke on that live, you could hear his slurred speech. I don’t think I’ll EVER forget it. And it’s one of the most prominent things I remember from that live. Slurred speech is a symptom of overdose. I originally thought he might have been drinking heavy but after putting all the pieces together it was the pills. He was OVERDOSED already. He was damn near dying in that live, ok? Had he not posted that story, done the live, and then posted the ig post after the live (not the apology but the one before that that has since been deleted) I’m almost 100% sure he’d be dead right now. Pretty scary. For people who did not watch that whole thing go down (I DEFINITELY did from the story post, to the live, to the ig timeline post, to groovl1n’s update, to his apology), I don’t think you guys understand. This was SOOOO serious.
3. Number 2 isn’t just to garner sympathy because at this point it you don’t feel it then you just won’t. It’s to drive home a point. All of what he said was A) under the influence of drugs B) under EXTREME mental distress C) while he was on the verge of dying. To put this in perspective if you still don’t understand, if he had committed a crime the law would have trouble figuring out what to do with him. He’d likely be committed to a mental health institution of some sort. After that IDK what happens. They can either prosecute once he gets out or drop the charges. But it will probably depend on the severity of the crime and the mental stability after they are out of the mental health facility. Not to say I 100% agree with the law, but I kinda agree here. I don’t know how much accountability I can really give someone who was going through the bolded. This is not like someone getting on IG live fully sober and saying whatever crazy shit. This dude was not in his right mind that night. So I’m not about to keep harping on this someone said during a whole suicide attempt where they were overdosed and tried to take even more because...I guess they weren’t dying fast enough?
4. Back to why I don’t know whether to 100% trust the forty pills figure he gave out. Well, I kinda explained why in number 3. He wasn’t in his right mind so IDK if he knew how much he really took. He may have miscalculated and took even MORE or less or he could be right on the money. Regardless of how many he took, he was definitely overdosed.
I’m gonna be honest. This situation was upsetting for me. Like I said the WHOLE day after that happened I could see his face from that live in my head. I was worried af and I really didn’t know what was gonna happen. This happened at around 11-11:30AM PST. We didn’t get an update until around 6 or 7 PM PST. I wasn’t sure if I had watched his last moments before dying or if he was gonna be disabled in some way or what. That was WILD. Luckily he was relatively ok.
My thing is this, it’s OK to just leave him alone right now. IDK why people keep saying shit? Like why KEEP poking at someone who is suicidal and severely mentally ill. It’s like people won’t be satisfied until he actually dies no matter what he says or does. It’s crazy that people are still trying to bring negativity but then in the same breath are like “I hope he gets well BUT...” no but. Either hope he gets well or not. That “but” implies you don’t truly give a shit (which by the way that’s fine. It’s your right to like or dislike whoever) so just shut up or own the fact that you wanna keep piling on this dude.
My thing is, there’s people in Khiphop that I don’t like but you would never see me keep picking at them during/immediately after suicide attempt. Even in “normal” times I say my piece about whatever happened and then move on. I don’t particularly like to keep dragging it on. It’s not even really productive or useful to keep up with all the news of someone I dislike and think are misogynistic or racist or whatever the fuck.
tl;dr: The man was suicidal, overdosed, mentally ill, and damn near dying. I don’t know if I can truly hold him accountable for much? Plus, he apologized. We can’t even get those from people when they are SOBER and in the right head space these days. It’s cool if people don’t wanna fuck with him cause of his comments about feminists and don’t accept the apology, that’s their business but just leave him alone. What do you get out of keeping on picking at him?
(final thoughts) Overall, I REALLY hope he’s okay and overcomes this. And I’m glad his taking his mental health into his own hands and really trying. Despite ALL this shit going on, he’s REALLY trying. He gave an APOLOGY after one day out of the hospital. When he should have been resting!?! It seems like he’s being responsible as shit for a 21 year old (starting from dropping out of SMTM9 instead of pushing on for the money. That’s a mature ass decision and thought process to know that health > wealth). And he’s truly trying his best to get a handle on all this shit. I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda scared for him. Especially after being in that live. But I TRULY hope he recovers. He has already beaten anxiety before but now it seems he’s struggling mentally so much worse now.

Surface Breach(1/3)[β]
(A/N: Apologies for the longer-than-usual wait on this one. I went back and forth a LOT on which direction I wanted to take this in. and both the weather and irl things have not been cooperating with my muse. X_X. Anyway, the prompt for this was  ‘Ahsoka completely breaking down and Maul comforting her’. Sequel to ‘Pressure Points’, so set about 2-3 years after ROTS with circumstances being closer to canon. Warnings for: Non-consensual abduction, emotional manipulation, possessive behaviour, intrusive thoughts, violent outbursts, violation of physical autonomy/boundaries, mentions of possible body modification/invasion of privacy, major character death and some internalized shame regarding sex and sexual practices. Once again, potentially triggering sections have been marked off with ‘****’. Unbeta’d.)
Ahsoka...drifts for an uncertain amount of time. She gets vague impressions of eating and performing other necessities as if through a thick haze. There’s a...person who helps her with these things. Someone with warm hands(which are very appreciated, wherever she is, it’s cold) and a low, pleasant voice that she could curl up and listen to for hours. Mostly she sleeps, deep and untroubled by nightmares or immediate concerns. When she comes to, there’s an overwhelming grogginess and a slight chemical tang on her tongue that she only gets from prolonged bacta treatment. Not full tank immersion, but there are a fair amount of patches stuck to her skin under the loose robe she’s currently wearing. Peeling them off carefully, she finds that most of the bruising and other marks that covered her body-like a tribute to poor decisions- are either gone or greatly reduced. And she doesn’t feel...sore in any tender places. Kind of a welcome change. Which now brings up the question of Where the kriff am I and how long have I been here?
Ahsoka catalogues her surroundings: Simple bed, storage unit, two doors presumably leading to a refresher and an outside corridor. It’s very...bare. Easily left behind or packed up. Whoever is staying here doesn’t plan to do so for long. She finds her lightsabres, clothes, and armour in the top drawer, and her boots placed neatly at the foot of the bed. Only when she is nearly finished getting dressed does she take out a long, even strip of black fabric. For a moment, she thinks that there must have been an error of some kind, until the memories of her most recent slip-up rush in like floodwater through a broken dam. There’s a hot, tight feeling in her gut that balances precariously between desire and shame. Maul has an obsessive personality. She knows this. So why am I encouraging this disaster by-Ahsoka can’t even finish the thought. It makes her sick. And so very angry. She’d made the mistake of seeking him out for something other than business, and he had flat-out abducted her. Any number of people or her objectives could be in danger right now. Her fingers fumble slightly on her wrist-comm as she checks it for tampering. Still functional. She’ll have to disassemble her equipment later, to ensure there aren’t any tracking chips or other unwelcome additions.
He might have embedded something in me while I was under. It rattles her, not remembering, not knowing what Maul could have done, given the opportunity. And he’s close. Even with apprehension curdling in her veins, she can tell that much. Slipping the blindfold into a pocket, she pulls her boots on and pauses for a moment in front of the door. So. Time to find out whether she’s a prisoner or a...’guest’. It opens seamlessly, and she almost gives a sigh of relief. Until she realizes that it leads directly into his office. Ahsoka steps through into a moderate, dimly-lit space. The glow from the screen of the datapad he’s perusing throws Maul’s left side into sharp relief. “Sit.” No need to guess whom he’s addressing, or that he expects to be obeyed. And as there are no other chairs in the room -besides the one he’s currently occupying-, her options are limited. She folds her arms and prepares to stand her ground, only to find herself pulled forward. There is a struggle, though the distance is so short that by the time she breaks out of his Force grip, she’s already right in front of him. Ever the image of arrogance, he sets the ‘pad down, only now raking his gaze over her body. If it’s just to assess the state of her injuries, she might not mind. As much. Except this is Maul, so his motives are guaranteed to be awful at best and downright terrifying at worst. She takes the opportunity to loom over him, gripping the back of his chair with one hand. “You have one chance. Tell me why in the name of a Hutt’s karking diseased brood pouch you thought any of this was a good idea.” The odds are heavily in favour of him lying, or any facts being filtered through his...particular mindset. There is still a possibility that she can glean some scraps of truth from whatever pile of waste product he presents her with, though.
“You were incapacitated, and your stability is, shall we say...currently less than sound.” He answers, lazily resting the curve of his jaw against one set of knuckles as he sprawls. “I acted as I saw fit.” Even when appearing relaxed, Maul is still a coiled serpent. She can never forget that. “Although I am curious...What you might have done had you woken up alone.” “Gone back to work with a few new bruises.” Ahsoka retorts flatly. Which is true, minus some details. It might have at least given her more motivation to stay away from him; knowing with certainty that she is viewed as a plaything for him to use roughly and toss aside on a whim. If only.
“A poor deflection. Nevertheless...” Maul hooks two fingertips under her chin, pulling her oh-so-gradually towards him as he leans in close. The resulting kiss is unexpectedly gentle. She didn’t think he wanted... But he’s-this is-good. Not hurried or violent. She finds herself angling her head to get a bit more contact, tongue peeking out to tentatively flick at his lower lip. He purrs, and she feels...oddly pleased as the physical connection deepens. Their tongues entwine and slide in a tantalizing dance to the point where she hums. Ahsoka is dizzy from either a lack of oxygen or budding arousal when they pull apart, chest heaving slightly as she takes in some much-needed gulps of air.  Still, there has to be a catch.
“Explain why I should allow you to leave, Ahsoka Tano.” Sometimes, she really dislikes being right.
“That’s not something you get to decide.” Ahsoka practically spits in retaliation.
“You ran.” Maul hisses. Like she’d had any other choice. It doesn’t matter if he’s gentle, fucking is just one more way for them to hurt one another. “And avoided direct contact for months only to slink back beaten and exhausted to the point of collapse. I have spent the last four days looking after a husk.” Ahsoka nearly hates the look in his eyes right now. Because he is so very good at pretending to truly care that she almost believes it.“Is martyrdom so much more appealing?” The Dark Side seems to slither over her as he purrs, deceptively pleasant even while it attempts to invade.
**** She sinks into his lap as he tugs her down, thighs parting instinctively under his touch. He fills the space between them with far too much ease.  She refuses to urge him to get this over with, already. Bad enough that she wants anything from him in the first place, that trading pain, degradation and cruelty with a monster gets her off at all. Except that it does. Ahsoka had hoped at first that it was just the physical aspect; That finding someone who could bite and claw at her in the right way would satisfy this...twisted craving in her off-time. There had been satisfaction, and a few personal revelations, yet it wasn’t enough.  “Rex and I buried the men you killed. So many more innocents are dead, dying or suffering under the syndicate.” Any mention of Satine Kryze or Adi Gallia sticks in her throat. She cannot bear to see his pride over those victims while he’s touching her. “You’ll betray everyone and everything for power or revenge.” What good has it done, pushing herself to the absolute brink to fulfill her duties, all but throwing herself into the arms of strangers? She’s still here, on the receiving end of that searing and inescapable gaze. “And you still don’t get why I can’t stand to look at you when you’re-” Finishing the sentence is impossible, both because she cannot bring herself to say the words and suddenly she cannot stand him, his presence, his touch, any of it.
“I should have just killed you then.” Her shoto is ignited and at his throat in the span of a heartbeat. Maul doesn’t retreat or let go, fingertips pressing bruises into her hips even as he half-bares his teeth in a silent snarl. Taking his head off would be right. The Rebellion needs his resources, not him. Criminals are easily manipulated, and Ahsoka will be free of these urges-The lightsabre is actually burning his skin now. He’s pressing into it, practically inviting-His eyes are-Her mouth is dry. Maul has always been a reminder of who she might have been, and what she might become if she ever loses herself. Everything comes crashing down on her at once, and the next thing she is truly aware of is that her weapon is deactivated and re-holstered, eyes leaking copious amounts of tears. **** He guides her hands to his chest, fingers automatically digging into the material of his vest once he lets go. Her face lowers to rest in the crook between neck and shoulder, breathing stuttered and wracked with quiet sobs while she trembles. Maul doesn’t embrace her. Merely...accommodates her current state of being. The pulse against her lips drops from frantic beats to a measured, steady rhythm. Ahsoka doesn’t want to be like him. Doesn’t want to go further down the path to becoming a desperate, selfish, manic person that would sit back and watch everything burn to ashes.
Her chest is full of broken transparisteel and every breath hurts. The tears are a deluge that take far too long to dry out, and when they do she wants nothing so much as to sleep again; curled around a warm body for comfort and safety. Obviously she can’t do that for a number of reasons, but it would still be nice to have the option. “Does this-” A light brush along her flank. “-mean I am forgiven?”
“No.”
“Good. What I am, my actions...They do not affect who you are, Ahsoka Tano.”
“It’s not that simple.”
“Is it not? When the Empire falls, you still intend to bring me to whatever ‘justice’-” Maul scoffs. “-Your reborn Republic sees fit to mete out. Our alliance has always been one of convenience. Physical intimacy does not change that.” “What the Republic will do to you is the least of what you deserve.” Ahsoka states with firm conviction, raising her head to make eye contact once more. “And am I really supposed to believe you’re not going to try and twist this to your own benefit?” “No.” He replies simply, though she can see that eerie, devouring light in his eyes beginning to emerge. “You already know what it is I want from you. And it means nothing if you come to me unwilling and utterly broken.”  “Hm. We’ll see how long that stance lasts.” Her response is justifiably skeptical. “I have work to do, so if you could point me in the direction of your hangar...”
“Of course.” Maul lists off directions as well as the model of ship she’ll be ‘borrowing’, her own presumably still hidden where she’d left it. “Close your eyes.” “What are you doing?” “Providing incentive. Return to my side when you are ready.” The pad of his thumb traces her lower lip sensually before he tries to close the remaining distance between their lips, only to have her lean away.
“If you want it that badly, you’ll have to catch me, next time.” She can practically feel the air crackle once the hushed provocation leaves her mouth. If she is to keep succumbing to these desires, it will be on her terms.
“It is not wise to tempt me when you are so close to freedom.” The rasp in his voice and the dilation of his pupils indicate that he is seconds away from pushing her down onto the desk and ravishing her senseless. The thrill of it is enough to make her grind down against him, once.
“Try it. We need to have a talk about boundaries anyway.” Ahsoka smiles, a challenge in her eyes as she loops and ties the blindfold around his left wrist before getting to her feet. “I’ll be in contact.” Maul actually lets her go when she walks away, this time. She feels...better. Not healed or whole, but better than she was. In any case, the work of toppling a tyrannical Empire waits for no one, and she has a lot to catch up on.  (A/N: Ahsoka’s still planning to see a med-droid ASAP, since they haven’t had that discussion yet and it’s been thoroughly established that Maul is Bad With Boundaries. I’m sure that most of you can guess what the second part will involve. [I’m predictable that way, lol.] In any case, I will be trying to get my WIPs out sooner and my inbox is still open to all interested parties. Cheers, everyone!)
