Early on, you have to imagine that groupies for the Venatori and Antaam emerge. Fuckwits and nobs who want to get in good with Elderwand and GilmoreGirl, who think it's a mad motherfucking genius idea to hire the Antivan Crows to kill this Rook person. (even better if Rook is a Crow, tbh.)

Viago, quickly exasperated by the number--and abysmal grammar/spelling--of the proposed contracts against Rook, simply stops responding to the missives.

Teia, otoh, collects all of them. She sends the restless fledglings to spy on these would-be clients, who have helpfully identified themselves as enemies of their ally. She and Lucanis draft contracts on those who present an actual threat, Lucanis pays, and Teia herself fulfills those contracts.

Rook never knows. The Crows keep a lid on it.

There's a moment when Lucanis nearly spills it. When, while arguing with Emmrich about the contracts on King Markus, and Rook muses that it's good to be a nobody because no one bothers to put a contract on them, Lucanis almost murmurs, "That you know of..."

For a nobody, Rook is costing him a decent pile of gold.
