The most annoying fandom thing for me right now is that I have TWO complete GothicWolf fanvids and a third half-way done. But I cannot find a way to upload them.
Youtube confuses the fuck out of me so I'm...nope. Tumblr can't handle it. IDK why but brain stops me from sharing the drive.
But Tumblr can handle sneak peeks. Soo....
Sneak Peek One:
#big wolf on campus#shipping#gothicwolf#I've actually got seven complete#but five of them are just different versions of the same two songs#how do you vidders do it#probably not be as picky as I'm being but seriously#this is difficult#song is dangerous man by trace adkins#I have like four of these#and those are just the ones that survived computer transference#rip the gothicwolf fanvids that didn't make it lol#was this just an excuse to put the sneak peek in because#i am weirdly proud of this intro sequence?#yes it was#100% it was that

The Best Vidding Safe Haven?
Forgive the "read bait" meme above but if you are reading these words right now that means it worked. If you are a vidding fan then it was worth it. Vidders.net was born July 19, 2010. It is a Vidder-friendly AO3 Embed Certified Vid hosting & streaming site with over 18K vids. Its growth benefited from You Tube's increased use of content ID and the closing of Imeem. It was mentioned in the "Vidding: A History" book by Francesca Coppa. Its members (most who host some great vids there) include:
Luminosity
Lim
Laura Shapiro
Lithiumdoll
Obsessive24
Clucking Bells
Charmax
Bradcpu
thedothatgirl
kiki miserychic
Milly
Hollywoodgrrl
bop radar
Loki (secretlytodream)
Condsdmlk
newkidfan
NCISMelanie
Shoopdancer
Absolute Destiny
SD Wolfpup
Arefadedaway
camelia1986
adfproductions
Astarte
Such Heights
Mithoborien
mresundance
Just to name a few. You may not recognize these names but if you do you know these vidders literally made a name for themselves with the quality of their work during that time. At least in my opinion. The site is a time capsule of awesome vids even if some of the vidders listed are no longer active. Additionally, it hosts vids no longer available on You Tube like "Boom Boom Ba" by Charmax (a classic Xena vid). And yet it can still host new content without the issues faced on some other vid hosting options.
How much does it cost to host and stream all those vids? Well, that is one of the reasons for this post. The assumption I'm making is that if there is a Vidding "community" it's more likely than not that members of it would see a post like this and/or share it with fellow members of the community. Is it worth it to keep a site like this around? It's mostly been a solo operation for these past 13 years but now I am starting to wonder after such a long time.
I'll spare you the obligation of filling out a poll or survey. I'll make it simple. We have a Patreon account at patreon.com/vidding. If you don't feel it's worth keeping up. Nothing to do. Thank you for reading this far. If you feel there is some value based on what was mentioned earlier, then a minimum level of support at the Patreon is $1 a month. You'll not only be supporting the Vidders.net but other projects like the recent purchase of the Vidding.com domain name and more. The OTW October fundraiser drive begins in October and is on track to raise about 250k. Rasing even 1 percent of that amount would be more than adequate. After all Vids on AO3 make up less than 1 percent of the content on there anyway. I've been told by a fellow fan that I should keep it running but if it's not even supported by a community, it's a personal expense at my expense I am on the hook for. Again, there is no survey or poll to take but if you have questions that may help you determine your willingness to support just contact me. If you find value in preserving the site just visit Patreon.com/vidding or get your questions answered. This form of funding is more sustainable than occasional stop and start donation efforts we've done in the past. If you prefer another form of funding let us know.
I will check in by the end of October to see where things are. I am not going to do anything drastic. It's just that it's been 13 years and I started to wonder especially with my current financial situation but didn't want to do anything without communicating the situation. The site costs about $720 a year to run. At about $60 a month to run so it should be doable.

You've encountered site changes over time as a fan elder, what do you make of Tumblr potentially being put out to pasture? Tumblr was my coming of age fan site, and im looking for advice to transition to the next thing with grace and less bitterness than I feel now.
--
Ahaha. God, you should have heard the howling about LJ. "Fandom is over!" "Never again shall we dwell in fandom's True Home!" etc.
Hell, this endless "only LJ was good" crap turns up in replies here on posts where I as OP have very clearly laid out why that's rose colored glasses nonsense and you can so make friends on tumblr, have a conversation on tumblr, etc.
I had my crabby phase about this during the transition from Yahoo Groups to LJ. A lot of the real olds had it over paper zines and the transition to the internet.
I don't know if reading these hilariously samey old posts would help. It does give perspective, I think.
--
As for what you should do, do what I did with Tumblr:
1.
Look around to identify the Next Thing fandom is going to camp out on.
It may take a few guesses and some time to figure this out. You will likely not be an early adopter. Fandom was well established here by the time I joined at the end of 2010. Of course, by now, all those 2009 and before accounts are long gone, but at the time, I was a n00b joining other people's space despite having been in fandom for ages.
2.
Don't expect to enjoy it
I didn't join tumblr because I liked it. In fact, I despised it. I kept right on despising it until a brief stint in Sherlock fandom, a fandom that was so active here at the time that I was able to finally see the good aspects of the site's structure and features.
This is the mistake a lot of people make. They give things a cursory try, don't enjoy them, and go "not for me", forgetting that the last site also had a steep learning curve that was either difficult or that they didn't notice because they were in a different phase of their life.
Bitterness and grief are, frankly, an inherent part of the process. You can try not to be a debbie downer in your public comments, but you can't just not feel those things during the awkward part of the transition. Sometimes, acting positive and cutting off excessively negative thoughts can make you feel less negative overall, but it doesn't happen immediately.
3.
Accept that feeling cranky and old is both a you problem and a state of mind, not a property of the new site
Relatedly, the way we remember fandom platform X feeling usually has more to do with us being in college with fandom friends down the hall or having discovered Our People for the first time or some other time when we had a lot of energy and positive emotions. Often, we were in the throes of a first or new fandom love too, probably for some megafandom that other people also cared about at the same time.
When fandom is leaving some site, there's a grieving process anyway, but we're also often in a worse part of our lives for starting new things. We're busy. We're tired. We're between fandoms. We feel like we already paid our dues to build up our community. Why should we have to start again?
But let me tell you, you always need to start again eventually. I go to a weekly vidders' zoom chat, and a lot of the people in there are old as balls, including Kandy, the person who invented vidding back in the 70s. She's a lot of decades and a few cancers in, and she had to relearn how to vid on a computer after transitioning from slideshows to VCR vidding back in the day. If bad health, platform changes, and dead friends were going to stop her, she'd be long gone.
It's like sharks: you stop swimming, you die.
This isn't just about fandom, obviously. It's about avoiding a midlife crisis and, later, about avoiding feeling emotionally geriatric even when your body is falling apart.
Change gets us all, but being mentally old is a choice. The real reason I gave tumblr such a try was that I had been so resistant to getting on LJ. I was 20. Even a year later, it was fucking embarrassing to have been a crotchety old hag as a college student. I promised myself I'd soldier through the next change instead of dragging my feet about it. And it totally worked in the end! But boy did it not make the transition any less unpleasant emotionally!
4.
Find your joy
As is obvious from the above, the vast majority of the problem is just emotions. Fandom has been on a million broken sites with shitty features. We go where the people are, regardless of whether it has the technological aspects we liked at the last place. The actual shape of that platform is largely irrelevant.
What does matter is whether we as an individual fan are still excited and happy about something. I was between fandoms recently and went looking around for BL series I hadn't watched yet. People kept suggesting things set in the present day with too-cheesy production values and too many banal schoolboys in modern day settings without even anything spicy going on. I realized that the BL/danmei scene wasn't really cutting it for me and I should go for production values and genre and non-canon ships. You probably scrolled annoyedly past the picspams that resulted.
(Of course, hilariously, someone has now shown me the trailer of Red Peafowl, so someone may be making BL that feels like it's for me after all. Look at all that badwrong and very dark color grading.)
When you're in a good place emotionally, it's a hell of a lot easier to weather any change, and when you have a new fandom, it's a lot easier to connect with other fans.
A lot of people wait around for lightning to strike twice. They found their first fandom by accident, and they expect it to happen seamlessly again. For me, it's far more productive to brute force it: collect up a big list of what's popular or what's new and go through it till you find things you might like, then try them all.
And part of this, obviously, is not waiting for other fans to make the party happen. The more you need to join something other people are already doing, the less choice you'll have in fandoms or in platforms. If you aren't picky and just go where the tropey longfic is, that can work, but even then, favorite authors disappear or go to fandoms you hate and former megafandoms dry up. If you're the one bringing the party, it's a lot easier to find a new fandom or platform or community to have fun in.

Yes, comment and Kudos and share the fics you enjoy.
But also, comment on artwork you enjoy. Leave tags on gifs. Give comments to podficcers and vidders who receive no appreciation at all. Have you looked at the Hit to Kudos ratio for the vast majority of podfics lately? A podfic might get hundreds or thousands of downloads but only twenty Kudos and a comment or two if that. It's sad.
I feel like we often talk about how important it is to leave feedback for writers, and that's true. But other creators put just as much time and effort into what they make and receive far less feedback and encouragement than writers do.
People like and reblog fanart and gifs without a peep assuming they don't just take them in and scroll on by.
They download podfics and watch fanvids and don't even give a like or a Kudos or a thank you.
Written works are by far more appreciated than every other medium in fandom.
Not to say writers couldn't always use more appreciation, but don't forget about everyone else.
Just because it only took you five seconds to look at a piece of fanart or a gifset doesn't mean it didn't take the artist hours upon hours of work. The same can be said for podficcers and video editors. These pieces of art and multimedia creations often take days or weeks to complete, so hearing crickets?
It's just as discouraging for those creators as it is for writers.
We'd have more fanart. More gifs. More podfics and fanvids and creations of all kinds if creators were at the very least thanked for what they do.
Please just keep that in mind. Authors aren't the only ones who need a boost.
#i'm not always perfect when it comes to this either#but i try to give feedback when i can#it's really important#and i'm tired of only seeing it talked about when we talk about fanfiction#fandom#one of those things

Submitting to the Zine
Let's Talk About Vids is a zine for talking about vids - otherwise known as fanvids, AMVs, edits, etc.
It was partially inspired by the regular Anatomy of a Vid panel at the VidUKon convention, in which vid watchers choose a vid they enjoy to analyse in depth.
I felt like there was an appetite for more analysis of vids, more detailed discussion about the artistic process of making vids, and more places to share vid recommendations. This zine is focused more on the artistic side than the technical side of vidding, but of course sometimes the latter will come up as part of the conversation!
The first issue of Let's Talk About Vids will come out sometime in the next few months. It will be a PDF e-zine, at least to start with!
The content of the zine will be made up of submissions from folks who want to talk about vids! The zine is seeking:
quick vid recommendations, for vids both new and old (from 1 sentence up to 100 words)
longer pieces that explore a specific vid in depth, whether a close reading or something else (200-1000 words)
vidders' reflections on their artistic process for a specific vid they made (200-1000 words)
longer pieces that explore a specific vidshow in depth, either by the VJ or by someone else (200-1000 words)
If you have an idea for something else not listed here, get in touch! Also these word counts are guidelines to give a rough idea for folks who prefer to have parameters, definitely not a hard and fast rule.
Before you make your submission, a couple of things to note:
1) If you are writing an in-depth piece about a specific vid or vidshow, please do your best to get in touch with the vidder or VJ to ensure they're comfortable with it first.
2) While this zine is a space to talk in detail about vids, right now I'm not up for hosting and moderating conversations about what vids got wrong or could have done better. Submissions should be focused on what you think the vid/vidshow does well, what is interesting to you about it, and how it gets its point across.
3) There's no requirement for any particular level of: formality/structure, vidding experience/knowledge, spelling/grammar, etc - if you've got something to say about vids, say it in whatever way works for you! I may lightly edit for spelling and grammar if needed, with submitters' permission.
4) For now, please submit a maximum of one longer piece and one quick rec, OR three quick recs.
You can make submissions HERE until 25 August.

Heart Alone by sasha_feather. Seabiscuit (2003). Found family! Horses!!!!
The Walker by @rhoboat77. Rataouille (2007). This vid is SO. FUCKING. CUTE. Don't miss this one!
Everything I Do by bironic. Cocaine Bear. Warning for drug use and brief implied bear injury, but this vid is not as graphic as the film. It is, however, extremely hilariously inappropriate laugh out loud funny. I can't help it. There's nothin' I want more.
1234 - A Bear Named Winnie by @kuwdora. A Bear Named Winnie (2004). This is slash vid with a bear at the heart of it all. A live action film based on the bear that inspired Winnie the Pooh. Two men go off to war and parent a bear cub. Oh, you're changing your heart. Scroll down in my vidpost to hear me scream about how this movie was made for me.

Big Festivids Recs Post!
Last weekend was the big Festivids GoLive, which meant the release into the wild of 160 brand new small fandom vids (aka fanvids, edits, etc.) Right now the collection's anonymous, but tomorrow is vidder reveals, so I wanted to write up a recs post for some of my absolute favourites from this year's collection. If you know Yuletide, well, Festivids is like Yuletide, celebrating small/weird/underappreciated fandoms! It's an exchange fest, so people ask for the small fandom vids of their heart and, then, receive one.
Honestly the collection this year is SO high quality, you should really go and browse the works yourself in their entirety; there are so many vids that I absolutely loved that I didn't put on this recs list, because I was trying not to get carried away (and also trying to get it done). But just to get you started, here are a smattering of my favourites. I tried to represent a bunch of vid genres and source types here, but ultimately it's just my taste.
RECS RECS RECS!
Andor: Level Up
AHHHH this is a vid about Andor and fascism and collective action and One Way Out and it's so gorgeously done. Perfect song choice, perfect vid, makes me cry and I will rewatch it many times.
Andor: be ready and be brave
Focusing on Ferrix, its history, its people, and its revolution. Absolute chills. Also I'm SO happy whenever I get to watch a vid to a Mountain Goats song.
Mosquita y Mari: como siempre soñé
Such a sweet, soft, slow romance vid. I ACHED for these two. Like reading a 300k slowburn but in three and a half minutes.
Dropout TV: Nothing in my Head
The Dropout TV vid of my DREAAAAAMS! (largely Game Changer but with lots of stuff in there!)
Taskmaster UK: Blood in the Cut
UHHHH. IT'S AMAZING??? It's hot and raw and kinky and hardcore. the vidder has the delicate, precise touch of a bloody scalpel. Yes, this is a vid for Taskmaster, the UK show where comedians do silly tasks. Because yeah, it's that show, but it's also this show.
Slash/Back: Uja
This vidder KNOWS how to vid horror. The way this vid cuts the most terrible images to make them barely-there, more horrifying for being rough slaps against my consciousness . . . yikes. Amazing vidding, super cool and scary, while also maintaining the uplifting, kickass, hopeful tone you want from a collective-action horror movie.
Janelle Monae: I Like That
Glorious, joyful, sexy celebration of being a free-ass motherfucker.
Star Trek: Lower Decks: Hard Times
Boimler vid about how he's essentially a redshirt who is just slightly too sweet to actually die. Absolutely adorable and hilarious.
Woman King: Upside Down
Absolute BANGER of a vid, great cuts, great movement, great character arc and great Dahomey women being amazing.
Romeo + Juliet: Magnetic
We all agree Harold Perrineau is the best Mercutio, SO, with that in mind, here is a flawless celebration of the best Mercutio.
Knives Out/Glass Onion: 'Til You Hit a Nerve
Brilliant comparison vid putting Marta from the first film together with Helen and Andi from the second one, drawing out the similarities and dissimilarities in a visual feast and with a badass powerwalk. Nothing not to love!
David Cronenberg's Films: body
This one is phenomenal. It takes David Cronenberg's entire filmography and condenses it into a vid about all the sexualized body horror. It is deeply horny and deeply disturbing and deeply fascinated by every single finger going into a hole in a body that shouldn't be there. It's soft and tentative and it's very graphic and violent, all at once.
The Wheel of Time: Velodrome
Tower politics and circularity and being bound to one another in every good way and every bad way; what a beautiful vid. I love how this is about a place, and about how that place draws these people together over and over in their shared experience and love and trauma.
The Midnight Sky: The Laughing Heart
Absolutely gorgeous vid of the film to a spoken word + music rendition of Charles Bukowski's "The Laughing Heart" (there is a light somewhere). I have not seen this film but I found this vid deeply moving.
Moby Dick: Queequeg and I
There are four (FOUR!!!) Moby Dick vids at Festivids this year, and they are all amazing combinations of a huge smorgasboard of sources, I heartily recommend them all, but I'll specifically rec two. This one is Queequeg and Ishmael to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and it is the sweetest queerest thing ever. Queequeg and Ishmael get a happy ending shhhhh they do shhhhh yes this is how it happened they came out of the water they're fine
Moby Dick: a vulture feeds upon the heart forever
This vid is a fucking masterpiece. It is a huge archival multisource Moby Dick vid that weaves all these incredibly different visual together to make a coherent, tragic narrative. And like. The BOOK is not a coherent narrative! This is such gorgeous and amazing fanwork. Don't miss out on it.
Women's 100m Sprinting: Didn't Come to Play
This is GORGEOUS, I don't know anything about sprinting but I know I love these beautiful joyful powerful women running really fast and hugging each other and being amazing. The editing on this is so tight; the vid never stops for a second. Like a sprint?!?!?!
The Golem and the Jinni: סיפור הגולם
This is another book vid, but since this book doesn't have any adaptations, it's using entirely archival source and probably some documentaries and films to construct the story - or, really, construct the vibe of the book, construct the metaphors of the book, and the result is beautiful and powerful and meditative. It's about survival, and making life.
Jesus Christ Superstar: Hope on Fire
This is another umbrella vid, where the vidder is taking a bunch of different productions of the play and mashing them together. This vid focuses on Judas and Jesus/Judas, and it all feels so inevitable and tragic and real and cruel. I really loved it.
Jordan Peele's Films: Goodbye, Honey, You Call That Gone
This is such a wonderful mashup of Jordan Peele's three films, exploring all the parallels and differences and just the rich tapestry of his imagery.
猎罪图鉴 | Under the Skin: Put It On Me
I don't know this source but this was just so gorgeously put together; there's a focus on art and art objects, on hands moving and creating, that's just mesmerizing.

Call to action:
My dear friend @wheremermaidsdwell has had a very scary health event that has hospitalized her since Sunday and will have her in a rehab for an unknown amount of time coming up.
She does have her eyesight mostly back and has her phone. I’d like to help lift her spirits, so if you are into MCUThor (especially Sif), Star Trek IX (especially Chris Pike), Critical Role or Stranger Things, would you please head over to her AO3 and leave a comment on some of her works?
She’s a brilliant vidder (Look What You Made Me Do, Crit Role), has written long fic (How Not to Drown, Stranger Things) and short fic (A Ballad of Letting Go, Thor) she also does art, but that’s not on her AO3. But trust me, it’s stunning.
Thank you, friends!

Vid Rec
Silent All These Years, by sisabet (Jiang Cheng-centric)
This vid focuses on JC holding it together during WWX’s absence, the sacrifice that JC made, and in some ways, the love he lost.
If, like me, you grew up with the song this vid is set to, you’re used to applying Tori Amos’s “Silent All These Years” to different situations, despite the very specific lyrics. The song is about the suffocation of holding your feelings inside and the dream that you are in fact magically stronger than that and can one day be heard (and the knowledge you also aren't because mermaids can't wear jeans). Obviously universal feelings, right? Obviously applies to everyone right? NEVER MIND!!! IT WAS NOT OBVIOUS TO ME!!! WHO KNEW THAT THIS COULD BE JC’S ANTHEM; I CERTAINLY DID NOT. Just, the way that sisabet made this song apply to JC is mind-blowing.
A lot of vids use music with a clear message to illustrate a message that is also clearly in the text. Eg, the song is “I love you” and all the images are LWJ looking at WWX. This is a fine way to vid! And a vidder in that school of vidding would probably look at “Silent All These Years” and think about how quiet LWJ is and make a vid about LWJ’s years of silent pining, then mourning. But other vidders take a text, then take a song, and say, “How do I make these media comment on one another?" That’s what this vid does. It’s a rare vid that does it successfully (without being too opaque for my brain) and this one is a treasure among them.
Note, please, who got “saved by the garbage truck” and who is the garbage truck
Note, please, who is “the girl who thinks really deep thoughts”
THEN think about what the “jeans of your with her name still on it” are and honestly you’ll be living in a Jiang Cheng Tori Amos renaissance and also you might be tempted to go find all the LWJ/JC hate!fucking and grief!fucking you can find. Though you might just sit there and cry about JC like you do every damn day.

Now I'm curious how you got into due south originally, if you feel like explaining :)
Sure! It's nothing too exciting I guess, but my Dueser origins begin as a wee girl. I know my family must have vaguely watched it because I remember the image of All The Queen's Horses mountie chase pre-dates my series watch beginnings. I know my grandma later confessed as I had it on tv one summer that she watched it. Cause cute Benton Fraser lol.
But real seeing and watch began with a random catch of Free Willie one morning on the Showcase Network. Thank you kindly Showcase.
Yeah, I caught it one morning and stayed to watch because I think I vaguely recognized it, and just fell in love with it's charm and wit and Fraser and Ray. It was the first episode so great timing too. And they had it schedule set to air one episode in the morning, the same at night, five days a week. Perfect for catching up.
Promos were hilarious too. I should see if any are online.
Oh, and it was original edit, so it had extra scenes like the different Victoria's Secret ones.
So I caught up on the series quick. Also, what I think really cemented my season 1 and 2 love was they played that set for months at least before switching to the 3/4 season. That highlighted the difference in tone to my POV too I think, and it's why I kinda view them apart still.
But I really got to experience show first this way.
I think I found fandom when starting Livejournal same time the show hit resurgence there. And I happily caught the tail end of Yahoo Groups so got to back read fan stuff there. Missed most of Ray Wars. Yay. There was the 2000's snippets, but everyone was so fun at content creation and love, that was the best take-aways. It made for a great time. I participated in a watch-along! A big highlight of fannishness for me! That's when I saw The Pilot. Or my fav was squeeing about Pizza and Promises.
Just, some of the many wonderful fans like Nina_DS and movies_michelle and duenorthlaurie for episode discussion, and Sdwolfpup, Belmanoir, Aingeal8C as content creators, or Scotchsour, and Lozenger8 who made some banging icons....Truly, there were so many wonderful people, I couldn't even name them all. Due South provided so many wonderful glimpses of other fans to share with. LJ friends were so lovely.
I fell out in LJ world strangely cause I felt kinda outside the fandom wave as it crested I think, not shipping F/K or really loving those seasons as much. And just personally felt not into fannishness as whole after awhile. It's a me thing across everything, not just Due South. I took an internet break for a long time. I still watched the series on tv, with Showcase and TV Tropolis and DejaView lol, and by then DVD often. Along with new TV of course, although not much cause Tumblr me is not too different from old LJ me. Still kept an eye of forums, sometimes, or such, cause I love discussion as you can see by my screeds versus tech/creative skills, but not actively or with comment.
I return cause, I don't know, seeing people express love for the series again is hitting a happy place of nostaglia I think. I had a rough bout with real-life and comfort fannish stuff is reminding life was full of small good moments. The joy of the endearing nature of the show and the spirit of love for it in the fandom is proof of stuff enduring. Joy that it's still on rebranded Showcase here on the weekends lol, even if you never know which season.
And a new vidder made a wonderful F/V fanvid that, timing again as I hit Tumblr, I stumbled into, and just had me crying when I watched at the beauty and love I remembered in the pair. It spoke to my love of them so hard I think it jolted me into thinking hell yea that love deserves happy expression, I can do it too maybe. Sadly they took it down, but yeah, that was the spark, and that's me fannish story.

Welcome! This blog is here to fuel your creativity and encourage you to kick the pressure of perfection to the curb.
The point is to MAKE things for the KinnPorsche fandom, quick'n'dirty style. Have you always wanted to try gifs but don't feel you have the skill? Make it anyway! Want to get better at writing? Just write a short ficlet right now. Want to test-drive a new style of art? Go for it!
How it works
Prompts: This blog will occasionally share new prompts. There will be a few types of prompts, all together in the same post.
Unprompted: You do not have to use the prompts. Any quick'n'dirty creation counts!
Get reblogged: You can @ mention this blog on your creation or in comments to get reblogged.
GET REMIXED!!! Are you open to someone using your creation as inspiration for their own creation, such as a podfic of a ficlet, or a fic of a gifset, or anything like that? Say "remix" next to the @ mention of kpquickndirty and I'll reblog with the remix tag.
General Guidelines
Keep it quick'n'dirty, whatever that means for your media type.
Writers/podcasters, try to keep it around 300-1,000 words.
Giffers, no more than 1-2 gifs (no big sets).
Vidders, please keep it to short vids (think Vine).
Artists, share those doodles and sketches.
Other! Any creative media type goes.
EXPERIMENTING IS GREAT! Try whatever you've been meaning to try!
Notes
All creative media types are welcome.
All characters/pairings are welcome.
All ratings are welcome. Explicit sexual, violent, and otherwise potentially triggering material must be properly warned and hidden (behind "read more" cuts or a mature community label).
No AI.

Wanted to start looking into fanvidding and searched for tips on that on youtube (despite being more of a written-guide person than a video-guide person)... a video for beginners on how to start vidding started out with "where to get footage" which I had also wondered because my laptop sadly doesn't have a DVD drive and I don't own DVDs for the show I'd like to make a fanvid about. The person in the video said that many people torrent but that that's potentially a bad idea due to being illegal... and then showed their own method of going to a website that has free shows and movies and using a browser extension to download the one you want to vid...
Now I know I am anything but knowledgeable in the field of vidding and legal copyright stuff, but... isn't that also illegal? Or is it less illegal? I am so confused because they first said "don't do illegal stuff because it might get you in trouble" and then did illegal stuff that's slightly different but similar? This video guide has me so confused XD
I have watched stuff on such a site before for old TV series like The A-Team that I can't get on sites like Netflix or Amazon Prime and for which I can't get DVDs or the DVDs are so costly that I couldn't afford them, in private mode (although I know that doesn't really protect one that much), but am too worried to download from such a site for legal reasons because for example sflix says on their site that downloading from it is illegal in some countries while watching stuff on it is rather a grey area...
--
I suspect they think your ISP is less likely to catch you.
If you're really bad at finding source, pick a popular fandom and look for "scene packs" on youtube. (Those are intended for vidders.)

DIGITAL WORK
Imagine this. You've just finished a fic set in a very specific time and place, say 1940s Brooklyn. When you post it, you want your readers to visually get the vibe of the fic before they start reading. You want them to see the famous bridge or what the streets looked like back then. Maybe your fic is noir-inspired, so you want to capture that dark moodiness and grit. You want to help paint the setting, but you don't really want a painting. What you want is a mood board, collage, or fic cover, three of the several types of digital works offered this year. Interested in getting a photo manip of your favorite characters enjoying each other's company? We have those too, so check out these auctions.
PODFIC
Podfics are an oft-overlooked medium in fandom. They require incredible skill to produce, yet podficcers rarely get the credit they deserve. They have to juggle different personalities and capture the tone of the scene they're reading. Recording can take hours. Podfics are amazing, and we have so much admiration for podficcers! Thankfully for all of us, several of these talented folks have offered up their skills for our auction. If you'd like a podfic produced of a favorite work to listen to while you're doing chores or going to sleep, now's your chance!
VIDEO
Last but not least, fandom always needs more fanvids and animations. How many of you have wished you could see the story you daydream in video format or your favorite fanart come to life through animation? How many of you hear a song that's perfect for your favorite character or ship and immediately want a video set to it? If you raised your hand, head here to bid on these auction offerings. These vidders/animators are ready to painstakingly create and edit the fanvid or animation of your dreams for you.
