I know you done piss someone off with that accurate fact you disguise for an opinion.
Not even going to lie, I did get some messages about it, but I did recognize one of them as someone who was extremely problematic in the fandom when it came to Open Heart, and even Queen B for that matter. Honestly, the energy it takes to be pissed off at everything and anything...
I did end-game romance Ethan in Open Heart, but just seeing Gabe, the comparisons kinda happened, and I just...fell in love with Gabe and how the writing around him was much, much better.
1)Not gonna lie, for being a man in his late 30s, early 40s as the estimate has him, the only way I can describe him is a DILFy snacc. (Excuse the cringe I had).
2) I don't recall Gabe ever yelling at the MC in front of other co-workers, made the MC second guess themselves as a lawyer, or made them cry at all. Yet Ethan managed to do all 3 of those on the MC's first day at the hospital. Not to mention nitpicked the MC's work in the lobby in front of other patients and hospital staff.
3) While Gabe is obviously the type to expect people to do their work, he never failed to compliment a person when it was warranted, even if it was the MC simply doing their job. Getting a compliment out of Ethan was like pulling teeth.
4) When the MC and Ethan clashed in ideas, he got all pissy and passive aggressive. The influencer in Book 2 is a good example. Ethan didn't get his way and made sarcastic, passive-aggressive comments to the MC who was only trying to save their team. When Gabe and the MC clashed, Gabe expressed his opinion, but he did stand by the MC's and put his trust in what they were doing. He never got all pissy because someone had a different method or opinion of doing something.
5) Along the same lines, in Book 3, whenever Leland overruled Ethan's decisions, he brushed off the work onto Harper and the MC, and got up to go outside and throw a tantrum. Don't recall Gabe ever storming out when something didn't go his way to throw a fit.
6) I know a big part of this was for the plot, but Ethan's personal life. Looking back now, I realized how much Ethan emotionally dumped onto the MC and dragged them into their own personal problems, with the MC even going as far to tell Ethan what to do with his own relationship with his mother. That's for him to decide, not the MC You're a grown man. While we do know very little about Gabe's past, he never brought it in and emotionally dumped onto someone about it.
7) I'll put this out here. Gabe really does care about the MC's career. He has all these connections to people, places, clubs, etc., and makes a point to bring the MC to these exclusive clubs and meet top people in the legal field to not only establish MC's own connections, but to help build their career and turn it into a success.
Obviously, I do expect Gabe to get forced like Ethan was in this story because, hey, that always happens in these sequels. The popular love interest gets way more screentime and diamond scenes and the rest suffer for it. But I will say, I've really fallen for Gabe, and I really thank the writers for that. He's easily become one of my top 5 favorite love interests PB has written.
