#how are elriels the one with no reading comprehension when you literally needed a bonus chapter to spell everything out for you

I swear people in this fandom are too funny. Because how can people say on one hand that they didn’t pick up on anything romantic between Elriel until the bonus and then say elriels lack reading comprehension and don’t pay attention to the text or details. Wtf, clearly if anyone lacked reading comprehension it was you and not elriels lol. Because we didn’t need a bonus chapter to literally spell out for us that Azriel and Elain wanted one another.

What did you think “A mate will know what is wrong with Elain” and then Azriel being the one to figure it out was about?

What did you think Azriel being the first one to notice Elain was missing and “I’m getting her back” were about? The fact that Sarah had Azriel as the one to go on a suicide mission to save her and not her mate?

The fact that Elain is the first and only person that Azriel has willingly let hold TT, his most prized possession? “I saw the painting in my mind: the lovely fawn, blooming spring vibrant behind her. Standing before Death, shadows and terrors lurking over his shoulder. Light and dark, the space between their bodies a blend of the two.” Pretty sure elucien and Gwynriel didn’t have a moment like this.

Why is Elain the first one to hold his scarred hands and call them beautiful?

Why do you think Azriel was clearly upset about spying on Lucien because he didn’t want to see what he and Elain did together? “Azriel’s Siphons guttered, the stones turning as dark and foreboding as the deepest sea.”

Why is Azriel associated with a place called Rosehall of all things? A place more than likely belonging to his mother.

Why do you think Elain buys gifts for Azriel but not her own mate? That she’s the one who causes Azriel to actually laugh out loud and it’s a sound unlike anything Feyre has heard before?

That he stays up until whatever fuck o’clock in the morning just to listen to her garden plans and stays with her even after everyone goes to bed.

If Lucien is supposedly what she needs because of “sunshine” then why is Azriel the one who actually takes her to the gardens and spends time with her in the sun enjoying peace and quiet and not Lucien? Why have Feyre ask Rhys “what if the cauldron is wrong”.

Why is Cassian confused pretty much throughout all of ACOSF because of Azriel’s behavior? Why he doesn’t sleep at night, why he avoids family dinners, why Elain smiles shyly at Azriel and has to look away, why Azriel seems so concerned over Elain’s wellbeing when he learns Nesta and Elain had a fight, why his shadows gather likes snakes ready to strike Nesta for insulting Elain?

And most importantly what about the fact that Cassian and even Mor notice that Azriel no longer looks at Mor longingly and appears to be over her? Azriel’s feelings for Elain were the catalyst and reason for him moving on from Mor after 5 centuries, and it wasn’t Gwyn his supposed mate who he actually met two years prior to Elain? Hmm…weird.

Or what about Azriel following the sound of elain’s laugh to another room and sharing a charged look between them? Or Azriel not being able to go into the family room because of “who” was in there “His secret to tell, never hers.”

Not sure how you missed all this, as well as other examples I didn’t even list, and then have the audacity to say we have no reading comprehension. Elriels didn’t need a bonus chapter to literally spell out for us that Azriel’s secret was Elain. I didn’t need it explicitly stated by him that he wonders what she looks like when he penetrates her, or that Elain gets wet just from him touching her neck of “offer and permission” to pick up on what Sarah has clearly been hinting at for multiple books. He wants her, she wants him, but there’s a mating bond in the way which complicates everything. It’s really that simple.

If you couldn’t pick up on that, then it’s you with the reading comprehension problem not elriels. They actually have romantic setup unlike Elucien where Elain loses her boldness around him. Or Gwynriel who have an off page rescue, and off page dagger lesson we never hear about, an off page bonus, and a regifted necklace meant for another woman.

Why did an anti say in the bonus chapter that azriel is only upset because of his brothers having mates and not him. they also mentioned he wanted elain to be his mate because his brothers got two sisters... so thats why he gets the third sister?? then they kept saying over and over he just wants a mate? but, the part that really made me laugh was "if he and elain got together and he found his mate, hE wOuLd lEaVe eLaIn, nO hEsiTaTioN. elAin wOuLd giVe uP hEr mAtE, bUt aZriEl wOulDnT. " do they hear themselves right now? WHAT ARE THEY EVEN READING, for real? they lack reading comprehension so bad!!

GA stans will never beat the allegations they don’t actually understand Azriel’s character outside of whatever they can twist for their ship.

If Azriel’s whole sadness simply stemmed from the fact he solely wanted a mate - his whole character arc surrounding the fact he believes he deserves and should have a mate, there was no need for Sjm to bring Elain into it. Elain wouldn’t have needed to even be mentioned in the bonus. Rhys theorised that Azriel was waiting for the bond to snap between him and Mor - THAT would have been the focus.

According to GA logic you’d get the same result. Azriel could have gone to Rhys and whined about how it wasn’t fair his brothers had mates & he didn’t, him wondering why the bond hasn’t snapped between him & Mor -> You get the same “Az only wants a mate!” Rhetoric that GA stans love to push. Gwynriel’s clearly must then believe Az is stupid and dumb. Why else would he complain over not having Elain as his mate when he knows you can only have one mating bond? Its useless. He knows elain cannot be his mate so why is he being counterproductive and wanting her to be his mate? He should still be pining and obsessing over Mor being his fated mate. It potrays Az as being illogical and childish - which ig is how GA stans show him as.

There was no need to mention Elain, the cauldron or pointing out the oddity it is to have 2/3 brothers mated to 2/3 sisters. There was no need to make Elriel attracted to each other. These are not complex romances. There is no multiple Lis or relationships. If Gwynriel is endgame- Elriel will not happen in any capacity. Yet Mass chose to include Elain. Chose to confirm that Elriel are attracted to each other, brought up the cauldron being wrong once again in the context of elucien.

What kind of Li would he be? That destroys Azriels character completely to the point of no redemption. Elain and him finally being together only for him to leave her bcs “Oh look! I have my mate now!” - Basically using Elain, discarding her the first chance he gets when his mate shows up ? The fact gwynriels genuinely believe this tells me they don’t understand Sjm’s way of writing her male Lis nor do they understand Azriel’s character- it literally makes him look superficial and fickle. Gwynriels do not understand these characters and a good romance story, if this take is anything to go by. Everyone deserves better from the way GA/EL stans treat them.

I try really hard not to say anything because I have a real life and this is my outlet to forget my stressful life for a bit ...clearly I was kidding myself if I thought this fandom is a way to relax and have a bit of fun ....

Now , after bullying a Minor aggressively over wanting to celebrate a character that belongs to Sarah J Maas that she as a fan loves.... lets clear a few things up ....

I am proud of this young girl who has been nothing but graceful and polite in the way she handled the bullying for wanting to celebrate a character she likes .... She has just as much say in wanting to celebrate a character as we all do ....

The first excuse for the outrage - that elain week was originally in April ... yes it was but it was the first week of April last year ... and nothing was announced even until the end of March this year and Gwyn week was only announced in the last week ... so unless people were planning to announce a pop up elain event with a days notice ... clearly there were no plans of having an elain week during the first week of April... that's a lie and an excuse ...

Gwyn week was announced in April since it is also a SA awareness month ... it is only fitting to appreciate a character thats been so popular and positive during that Month ... especially when her character brings comfort to so many survivors within the fandom....

The second excuse - that it was organised by a person who ships Elain and Lucien.... Now this is low and disgusting .... what makes you think these people are wrong wanting to see Elain with her mate ??? Clearly you all haven't gotten her POV ... so what makes you so sure that it is wrong ... the character probably has reservations I get that ... but its not like he has forced himself on her ... Canon suggests he has given her space and time ... and clearly you all are not writing the series... So your argument that its Wrong is silly ...

Also, Azriel literally smothered Elain and disrespected her choice to help with the scrying .... His thoughts in the POV bonus chapter were clearly misogynistic and disgusting.... I love him but he needs intense therapy ... He literally treated Elain like an object that he wants to taste once .... if anything shipping them and then calling the rest of us misogynistic is a joke and shameful ... get over yourselves... that pairing is just toxic for anyone who has basic reading comprehension... yet most people have never lashed out at that fandom group for being anti feminist..... and anti elain .... if u r allowed to ship them then eluciens are allowed to ship them just as much .... you have a problem?? Third excuse for outrage .... Gwynriels are the reason elain gets hate, hence we are not allowed to celebrate the character??? Have you people lost it ??? Do you lack grey matter in your brains??? Elain getting hate has nothing to do with the Gwynriel pairing .... a character is not defined by which person she needs to end up with ... it might be a difficult concept for most of you to grasp but anti elriel is not anti elain ... but given how Gwyn's character has been butchered and continued to be butchered to make Elriel more palatable.... There are people who don't like Elains character... for multiple reasons of their own ... its as simple as them not participating... there are just as many who don't like Lucien or azriel ... stop gatekeeping characters as plot points to ships alone ... its silly and exhausting...

So the outrage was just a tantrum thrown by a bunch of adults who lack basic maturity ... now, you want to celebrate Elains week in September as well ... go for it ... have as many as you want ... who said there can only be one week ... people who want to participate will do so ... Elriels ... you guys could have still done that without throwing that ugly tantrum and no u cannot dictate who can and cannot participate....

You want it to be a closed event then call it a closed event exclusive for the elriels ... u can't say its Elains week but gwynriel and elucien shippers can't participate... although if you are saying that it speaks volumes about the quality of people on your side isn't it??

Same with Azriel week you guys want to have 2 weeks celebrating Azriel have 2 weeks ... participation is optional ... do what suits you but do it with dignity ... without stepping on anyone else's toes ...

Just find other ways to keep yourselves happy rather than by throwing childish tantrums and with performative outrage ... baseless and absolutely needless... None of this will confirm or manifest any ships ... what's sunk has sunk ... no amount of outrage and bullying can salvage the wreckage...

I was once a hardcore Elriel shipper. But before that I was always an Elain stan FIRST. And after reading Az’s bonus chapter and seeing how he views Elain and sexualises her vs how comfortable he is around Gwyn and how he can be himself without hiding any parts of himself or compressing his shadows ... I have officially boarded the Gwynriel ship ahhh !! :)

I am going to submit this anonymously because I already lost a couple of friends :( I never realized how toxic some of the Elriel fans are ? I have heard about the doxing and threatening but honestly I did not believe them to be true because they all seemed very sweet to me. That is until two of them — who are were my close friends on here — ganged up on me and publicly bullied me for ‘having no taste’ calling me blind and lacking reading comprehension skills causing me to lose nearly half of my mutuals ... then proceeded to block me just because I no longer ship Elriel :( they did not even attempt to convince me or have a civil conversation about the characters — they just straight up bullied and belittled me :( it is just a ship and at the end of the day this is all just fiction !! There is no need to be so cruel !! I do not understand ?

*sigh* Yes I am quite confident in Gwynriel and I am head over heels for them already , yes if Elriel does happen I will fully support them because as long as the characters are happy how can I not ? But for now I no longer want anything to do with the Elriel fandom and I am glad they are starting to show their true colours. Having no taste is shipping a ship that's not romantic. At all. Cough cough Elriel cough cough.

When I shipped both Elriel and Elucien. I actually noticed this. That quite a few elriel stans are rather...ruthless. Jumping into other Elain or Azriel ships with their views. How wrong others are and how they are right. When all the other ships stay in their lanes. Supporting and loving their ship of choice.

I always thought Elain and Az were only fanon. Yes their dynamic was cute but the relationship in canon terms is stale. Especially as an Elain stan first. Yes she could have shown him he's deserving of love. But what about her?

It's been shown time and time again that Elain and the darkness Do. Not. Mix. So his shadows would literally consume her and she would never heal. How is that fair to her? How is it fair to Elain to be with someone who only wants her for her body? It's disgusting. And she deserves better than that. And

Azriel deserves someone who he can be himself around, shadows and all. That person is not Elain who he has to hide his shadows from. I mean his shadows recoil from her. If that's not a sign they shouldnt be endgame. Idk what to tell you. He also didn't seem all that upset about it. He was pissy for a day and that's it.

I would accept if Elriel was canon too. If that's how Sarah goes. I wont respect it because the first Az thoughts we have, have rubbed me off that ship entirely. Stomaching an Elriel centric book would be hard. But I'd do it. Good news is I doubt it. She put a lot of focus on Gwyn and Gwynriel. You don't do that if you're not intending for them to be a romantic pairing. Then you have my bby fox boy Lucien. Who is suffering so much because his mate won't even look at him. And we all know Sarah loves her slow burns and Elucien is the slow burn of the century.
