I need you all to understand something. A year ago when I made this piece of political art featuring Dewayne PipHunter Bates I wanted to tell my story. I wanted to share how this political climate affects me and people like me. Here we are a year later and the news shows us that Empire Star Jussie Smollett was beaten and had a noose placed around his neck in a hate crime. All of this because of his sexual orientation and race. This is real life people. We have to talk about these things. We have to get people to understand that there are people in this world who are working to destroy others because of hate and fear. Our leaders are silent. Their supporters are silent. Silence is deadly. I have been given a gift to help educate the world. I am using my art to help people see another point if view. This has to stop. We are all Americans. We are all human. We are better than this. I wish people would see this piece for what it truly is: a call to unite. Thank you to DAB ART for publishing this piece in their click bait show last fall.
