After a week of serving and loving on the city of Houston, we treated the students to a day at Galveston complete with ice cream and pizza!
These students are so funny and kind and I can’t wait to see the way they continue to change their worlds! What a blessing GO! Houston has been!

Thursday was our last day of serving in Houston, what an awesome week we had!
Team 1 started the morning at their anchor site and played games before saying their goodbyes. Tears were shed but these are friends and memories that we will have for a lifetime no matter where we live. They then spent their afternoon in downtown Houston sharing their lunches with homeless people and seeing some of the tunnels that run 20ft underground.
Team 2 woke up early and went to Crossroads, a “one-stop shop”, where homeless people can get new clothes, breakfast and lunch, and a hot shower or haircut. They served meals to the guests and helped them pick out new clothes and shoes! Then, they went to their anchor site and decorated the van with their new friends!
Today was also our teammate Ren’s birthday so we had plenty of treats and a water balloon fight to celebrate!

Wednesday was no different from the others, it was another GREAT day with GO! Houston!
Team 1 went to their anchor site in the morning and played games and made crafts with the kids. Emma used her own money to buy one little boy Jason new socks, look at those smiles! They finished their afternoon with a Prayer Tour around the city before having dinner at a delicious Mediterranean restaurant.
Team 2 started the morning at their anchor site and learned how to play a new game with their friends called “man hunt.” In the afternoon, they all hopped on to the Metro and went downtown to share their lunches with homeless people in the park. If you ask any of them, they’ll tell you that this was their favorite day! So proud of their faith and courage.
After dinner, the teams reunited and combined with a high school group from Colorado for a night of worship! Love this team!

A little bit late on this post, but we had a PACKED day yesterday and then crashed hard in bed! Each team started the morning at their host site- Group 1 did a craft and shared pickles with their new friends while Group 2 played an intense game of basketball and colored! Then, we all met up together and made disaster relief food supply boxes at the Houston Food Bank! Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in the nation and it was so fun to serve there! We stopped at a Mexican market and got authentic pastries before we headed home for tamales and a worship night! Last but not least, we made a quick run to get tasty ice cream sandwiches! Another great day serving and loving on the city of Houston!

Day 1: Today we split in to two serving teams and visited two different locations of an organization called Rainbow Housing where we got to meet and play with kids age 4-17. We will be returning to these same locations every morning and cultivating relationships with the residents of these communities! Group 1, led by Mira and Nathan, spent the afternoon with the residents of Sheltering Arms (a facility for adults with dementia) while Group 2 took a tour of the city and learned about the different cultures/socioeconomic classes that comprise it. Then we all met up for a tasty dinner of empanadas before heading back to our housing site for more fun and an early bed time! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds!
Favorite part of today:
Lucy- playing with the kids and getting to know the people at the memory care facility Shelter Arms.
Benjamin- Prayer Tour. Because we got to talk about the 5 wards of Houston and the different people that live in this city.
Dylan- Getting to know everybody in the Rainbow Housing facility this morning. We got to play with them and learn about their lives.
What did you learn today?
Ren- Meeting new people isn’t as scary or bad as it seems.
Mason- You can make an impact on someone’s life just by talking to them.
Lucy- It feels good to help people, even if you are uncomfortable. Because you can make them smile just by talking to them.
What’s something you are excited about this week?
Mackenzie- excited to return to Rainbow Housing and play with the kids and make better friendships with them.
Ren- The end of the trip and seeing all the impact that we have on these organizations and they have on us.
Benjamin- I’m excited to return to Rainbow Housing and hang out with the kids we met today.
