Bringing Forth The Storm
The rest of the noble houses had gone forth to the Vale, where they planned to group at the Eyrie. King Lyonel Barartheon had returned to the Stormlands. His plan had been to assemble his forces at Storm’s End, and then to march them up the Kingsroad, before moving along the River Road, his plan was to cut off the River King from gaining more supplies, men, and resources form Maidenpool. Once he was ashore, and had made his way to the rookery at the top of Storm’s End, it seemed as though a vast storm of black wings took flight. Flying across the Stormlands, the old King called his banners, he planned to muster a total force of 20,000 men.
The Old King had not been at the attack on the coronation at Dragonstone for young Daemon Targaryen, he and his kin had been celebrating his Queen’s nameday. Now however was not the time for him to be stingy when they called for his aid. Battle in his experiance was often the best place to forge long lasting relationships. If he came to the aid of the rest of Westeros, then they would be more likely to trust him. He had already negotiated a deal with the Crownlands, it would only be a matter of time before he could push his influence further into the region. It would only be a matter of time before the young Targaryen king was often writing to Lyonel seeking the old man’s advice.
Lyonel’s heir had sent both of his children to the Vale, they were to serve as their eyes and ears as he oversaw the gathering of his forces. He would leave behind his son as his Castellan of Storm’s End, Lyonel would personally oversee the troops in the battle from his wheelhouse. Looking over maps of the River Road, Maidenpool, and possible trade routes from there to Riverrun, the Stormland King went over the plans with Lords Tarth, Penrose, Estermont, Dondarrion, Selmy, Connington, and Swann about half a hundred times, until they had all committed the plans to memory. There was no room for mistakes in the Old King’s eyes.
When the time came, and word of action at Saltpans reached his ears, Lyonel knew it was time to begin marching his forces. Assembling his liege lords one last time in the Round Hall, Lyonel sat upon the throne of Argilac the Arrogant and the Storm Kings of House Durrandon who had come before him. Besides the Tyrells, House Baratheon was the youngest of the great houses, now royal houses, having spawned from the bastard brother of King Aegon the Conqueror. Lyonel intended to make his house just as respected as that of the Durrandon’s had been, and he was the first Storm King of House Baratheon. Looking over the lords gathered before him, many of them in armor, the Old King had donned robes of brown velvet, and gold silks. A great cloak over his body making him look far bigger than he was.
“My lords, we are gathered here today, one last time before we march to battle. We did not march during the Dance because as many of you knew we had nothing to actually gain, and it was because of that we remain one of the only houses whose men, and women and lands was untouched by dragon fire, and fantasies of the Iron Throne. We march today, because we know the River King cannot withstand all the power of Westeros. We must also join this united front, because we wish to build new relationships. By fighting alongside the many other royals, and nobility of Westeros against the miscalculations of the River King, we can assure a strong foundation for such relationships. When the River King lies dead, I will be the oldest King in Westeros. We must use my advanced age to our advantage, I plan to befriend these other kings, and to offer them my wisdom, and along with my wisdom, my influence into the management of the rest of Westeros. So let us use this war to our advantage, and for the advancement of all Stormlanders.”
Rising from his throne, the King walked with his lords, looking over the army now in a marching formation, before he stepped into the smaller wheelhouse that he waiting for them. With a small wave of his hand, the men began marching, and the wheels of his vehicle began turning. Looking out the window of the wheelhouse at Shipbreaker’s Bay, he spoke to himself, “So it begins.”

Health issues aside, if Elia and the children had managed to survive the sack of Kings Landing, would she have been a viable match for Robert?
(2/2) its just that I can totally see Robert trying to somewhat mimic Orys Barartheon and ‘stealing’ Elia as a final vengence against Rhaegar.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to regarding Orys Baratheon.
Nevertheless, I do not believe that Jon Arryn would have counseled Robert to marry Elia (even without the health issues, though really I don’t think those can be ignored - Elia had been “bedridden for half a year” after Rhaenys, and after Aegon’s birth, when Elia almost died, maesters had advised Rhaegar that Elia would have no more children; that’s exactly the opposite of what a new dynasty would want out of its first ruling queen). Politically, a marriage to Elia would send a very poor message to Robert’s wartime allies. Dorne might not have supported Rhaegar to its full strength, partially because of Rhaegar’s huge insult to Eiia, but Doran still sent ten thousand spears to aid Rhaegar during Robert’s Rebellion, and Lewyn Martell fought and died for the crown at the Trident. Robert might not have wanted to dispossess every lord who fought for the Targaryens, but he was certainly not about to reward them either, especially over those families who had fought with him and proclaimed him king. Making Elia Robert’s queen would grant House Martell and Dorne in a general sense a huge boon despite the fact that it had fought openly against Robert, and would ignore the allies who had acclaimed him - most particularly the Lannisters, who had been violently instrumental in the sack of King’s Landing and had the wealth and power to prevent a Targaryen counter-rebellion in the future.
As for Robert himself … well, if we can believe his own words, he did not wish to marry after Lyanna was “abducted” and later died, but married Cersei on Jon Arryn’s urging because “the realm needed an heir” and because wedding Cersei “would bind Lord Tywin to [Robert] should Viserys Targaryen ever try to win back his father’s throne”. I don’t think Elia even entered Robert’s mind, honestly; his whole thought had been of Lyanna, and after she was gone he spent much of the rest of his life wishing he could have had her instead of the wife he ended up marrying. Even when he thinks of Rhaegar, it’s always in the context of what Rhaegar did to Lyanna (or, at least, what Robert imagines Rhaegar did to Lyanna); Elia never enters into it. I don’t see any evidence that Robert would have wanted to marry Elia to satisfy some sense of vengeance against Rhaegar.

STAVIG | Travis Fimmel | Twenty-nine (29)
► Wildling
♚ PERSONALITY
✔ innovative, quick-thinking, protective ✖ brutish, resentful, dishonest
♚ HISTORY
*Trigger warning: rape.
Stavig was not born a Wildling like most of his kin. His mother, Arra was part of the small mountain clan Norrey, whose loyalty belongs to the Starks when called upon. During their raid on the Gift, she was captured by the Wildlings and raped by one of their warriors. Arra gave birth to a baby boy northeast of the Antler River. She named him Stavig after her father who died fighting the Wildlings during their raid. Resenting the Willdings for taking her, Arra made sure to teach her son the customs and politics of the South, telling him stories of Brandon the Builder and the First Men. Stavig loved the stories of the South, admiring how noble and brave everyone seemed to be. His mother continued to stay loyal to the Norrey clan and the Starks through the years, even as Stavig became more and more comfortable with the Wildlings. While traveling past the Fist of the First Men, the Wildlings were attacked by the Night’s Watch and Arra was killed. Though young, Stavig was heartbroken. His mother had only told him stories about the brave and heroic Night’s Watch and learning first hand that the Watch could be as cruel as the Wildlings always told him, he finally chose a side. A few years later, Stavig wandered south with his clan and was captured in the Haunted Forest. He was kept alive after the leader of the new clan saw potential in the young man. Stavig was trained by the finest fighter in the clan. He quickly became the fiercest and most feared Wildling in the East. He grew up continuing to resent the crows for killing his mother, but secretly wondered if the South was truly as safe and peaceful as his mother would tell him. The Wildlings continued to be ravaged by the Others no matter how many clans came together. Before he came of age, Stavig’s clan was invaded by the men of the Frozen Shore. Instead of fighting what he knew was the stronger clan, he yielded, and was accepted by the clan leader when he saw how much knowledge Stavig had about the people of the South.
Stavig partook in many of the battles and quarrels between the men of the Frozen Shore and the ice-river clans, sharpening both his wits and combat skills. When he was thirteen, ex-member of the Night’s Watch and new high ranking member of the Wildling’s Mance Rayder approached their clan and proposed a truce in order to defeat the Crows. Stavig saw the potential in Rayder’s plans and pledged his allegiance to Mance’s cause, devoting his time to convincing the leaders of the Frozen Shores that Mance’s plan was the best way to defeat the Night’s Watch. For the next few years, Stavig took it upon himself to support the King Beyond the Wall’s cause and travel from tribe to tribe to request their allegiance. Though he didn’t spent too much time traveling with Mance and his trusted band including Tormund Giantsbane and Ygritte, he knows that if they are trustworthy to the King Beyond the Wall, he can trust them as well. Stavig brought the last few clans together for the Battle of Castle Black, though he was still North of the Wall when their forces were crushed by Stannis Barartheon. When the men of the Frozen Shore learned that they had lost their leader, they nominated Stavig to take his place. At twenty three, he was still very conflicted about his feelings toward the men and women of the South, but he remained ruthless and protective of his people, as Mance would have done. After hearing about Hardhome, he convinced some of his people to take up on Jon Snow’s offer and they journeyed to the Wall, to fight in Stannis Baratheon’s and Robb Stark’s army. After being victorious, they were allowed passage and settled on the lands near the Gift, Stavig’s old home. Some Free Folk resented him, thinking that journeying South of the Wall was a betrayal, but most were in support of his plans, knowing that the Others would soon reach the Wall. Stavig knew that if enough of his people were to go South, he could be reunited with his mother’s customs of the Seven Kingdoms. He could be part of a noble cause and potentially be more than what everyone thought Wildlings were. After the Free Folk started journeying South, Stavig was elected as leader of the Wildling settlement. His duties included maintaining connections with the Lord Commander and Robb Stark, whose lands they were soon going to expand on.
♚ PRESENT
Stavig continues to lead the Free Folk South of the Wall, but is wary of the new influx of Wildlings crossing the Wall. The lands around the Gift are filling up, and Stavig worries that they their dire need of space will not be taken seriously to the Queen. If he wants his people to be safe from the Others, he knows he must collaborate with the man once called the King in the North and the Lord Commander to find his people more land. Though Stavig knows that the Wildlings will not want to adapt to Southern culture easily, he wants his people to grow into southern society and to become more than “savages.” Stavig wants to pay tribute to his namesake and mother by possibly establishing a House, just like the Thenns did.
♚ CONNECTIONS
YGRITTE - Though Ygritte does not have too much favor with her fellow Wildlings, Stavig knows she is willing to do whatever it takes for her people to believe in her again. He left her behind when he journeyed toward the Gift to build the settlement and hopes that she will join them one day.
GILNA - Stavig doesn’t know much about Gilna, one of the newcomers on the settlement, but he knows enough about the cave dwellers to be aware of their stubborn and hardened nature. Since he hasn’t really been in touch with the distant northern Wildlings, he doesn’t know of her fierce loyalty towards Bjordar, but his gut instinct tells him not to trust her.
JON SNOW - Stavig knows that Jon Snow has put his reputation and even his life on the line by letting the Wildlings through the Wall. He also admires Snow for shooting Mance Rayder instead of letting him be consumed by flames. He knows he cannot build a House and a life with his people without the help of the Lord Commander.
ROBB STARK - Stavig does not always trust Robb and worries that the northern Lord is not taking the situation with the Wildlings seriously. But he knows he needs to put his feelings for the Young Wolf aside and attempt to work with him to acquire land and legitimize his house.
MENTIONED IN: Jon Snow, Ygritte, Gilna.
