Hotel The Imperial, Delhi

Hotel The Imperial in New Delhi, India. New Delhi's first grand luxury hotel. This elegant hotel is 3 km from the New Delhi train station, 3 km from the India Gate monument and 5 km from the 17th-century landmark Red Fort and Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid.

The Imperial Hotel was built by S.B.S. Ranjit Singh, son of R.B.S. Narain Singh, honored by the British Raj, at the Durbar coronation of 1911, in which New Delhi was declared the new capital of India with the capital moved from the city of Calcutta.

The hotel was designed, in a mix of Art Deco, Victorian and Colonial styles, by F.B. Blomfield an associate of Edwin Lutyens the architect who designed the new capital of the British Raj, New Delhi.

The hotel was officially opened in 1936 by the Viceroy of India Lord Willingdon and his wife Lady Willingdon who chose the name and the lion emblem for the hotel.

It was precisely in this hotel that Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Lord Mountbatten met to discuss the partition of India and the birth of Pakistan.

El Hotel Imperial fue construido por S.B.S. Ranjit Singh, hijo de R.B.S. Narain Singh, honrado por el Raj británico, en la coronación de Durbar de 1911, en el que Nueva Delhi fue declarada la nueva capital de la India trasladándose la capital desde la ciudad de Calcuta.
