Essential Tips for Renting a Hospital Bed in Markham for Post-Surgery Recovery
Renting a hospital bed in Markham for post-surgery recovery can significantly enhance comfort and support healing, but it’s important to choose the right option. Start by consulting with your healthcare provider to understand the specific needs, such as bed type—manual, semi-electric, or fully electric—based on mobility and comfort requirements. Measure the space where the bed will be placed to ensure it fits well and allows easy access for caregivers.
Look for reputable rental providers in Markham that offer delivery, setup, and maintenance services. This ensures the bed is properly installed and functioning, saving you the hassle of setup. Consider the rental terms, such as weekly or monthly rates, and ask about discounts for longer rental periods if extended recovery is anticipated. Finally, inquire about any included accessories, like side rails or pressure-relief mattresses, that could further support a comfortable recovery. Choosing the right bed with the right features can make a big difference in your healing journey at home.

All OC Characters belong to me
Joe grunted as his text message to Kiyana went unanswered for another day. “Gotta be Josh’s punk ass.” He muttered, throwing his phone onto the couch next to him. It’s been six months since he had Kiyana in his bed and he was feening for more.
He closed his eyes and let his head fall back as he remembered how tight she felt wrapped around him. How intoxicating her moans sounded as she moaned in his ear . “Fuck” He whispered as he felt his pants grow tighter. He groaned and opened his eyes. “Fuck.” he muttered again, grabbing his phone and sending Kiyana another text message.
“Baby, when the last time you had some dick?” Kiyana choked on her lunch and glared at Samara as she reached for her cup of soda.
“Girl what?” Kiyana asked. Samara shrugged.
“You so wound up. That’s exactly what we’re doing this weekend. Getting you some dick.. Grade A dick.”
“Can you stop saying dick?!” Kiyana hissed. “I do not need any of my coworkers over hearing this conversation.” Kiyana looked around, grateful that they were seated towards the back of the cafeteria and only one person was near them but he had on headphones. Samara had shown up to the hospital on Kiyana’s first day to have lunch with her and to hear about her day out with Josh and the boys.
“I’m just saying.” Samara shrugged again with a smirk on her face. “Last person you had sex with was Joe, right?” Kiyana nodded.
“Oh speaking of Joe. He texted me again.”
“Did you respond?” Kiyana shook her head and Shrugged.
“What was I supposed to say?”
“Oh, big daddy Joe. I need you and that dick.” Samara said playfully, batting her eyelashes at Kiyana and laughed loudly, ducking the french fry that Kiyana threw her way.
“Sorry to interrupt.” Kiyana and Samara looked towards the person and both of their jaws dropped open causing him to laugh a bit. “I just wanted to introduce myself.” He said, his eyes never leaving Kiyana’s. “I’m Elijah but everyone calls me Eli. You the new labor and delivery nurse right?” Kiyana nodded, her mouth going dry when he flashed her a grin. “Nice to finally meet you. See you around.” He said, giving her a nice once over before biting his lip and walking away from them.
“Fuck what I said about Joe.” Samara said, eyes wide as she and Kiyana watched Elijah walk away from them. “If you don’t ride that man six ways to Sunday… I will.”
Josh let out a growl when he saw Shanté waiting outside by his rental. He knew it was too good to be true. He could have swore her crazy ass had got sent back down to NXT but here she was, wearing a customized YEET shirt that had “MRS. USO” on the back.
“Bruh, you trippin’” He muttered. Standing as far away from her as possible. “Whatchu want?” He looked around to see if there were any lingering fans around. He did not need any picture of him and Shanté hitting social media.
“I miss you.” She pouted and Josh rolled his eyes. “C’mon Josh. Those four months meant something to you too.”
“I didn't,” he said bluntly. “We had sex that’s it.” Shante rolled his eyes not believing what he was saying.
“Josh, come on! You were so mad that I went out with Theory.”
“Nah” He shook his head., “I was mad that Kiyana was being a bitch and refusing to bring the boys to see me because we were fighting and I took it out on you. I don’t give a damn about you and Austin.” Shante furrowed her eyebrows.
“What?”
Josh sighed. “It was nothing but sex Shanté. Yeah I said some shit that I shouldn’t of said. But I never wanted to be with you.” He shrugged, not caring if it came off mean. He was sick and tired of popping up everywhere. “It was just sex.” He repeated, and as expected Shanté marched up to him and smacked him in his face.
“I’m happy Kiyana divorced you, you piece of shit” She glared at him before ripping her shirt over her head and throwing it in a nearby trash can. Not caring that she was now walking around in her bra.
“You and everyone else.” He muttered before climbing into his rental and driving towards the hotel.
Kiyana fell backwards onto her bed. She was beyond exhausted. She closed her eyes and sighed. She would have to get used to this feeling, no longer a stay at home mom or a wife. She was almost asleep when he phone dinged with a notification,
ElijahDaniels has requested to follow you.
Kiyana bit her lip as she scrolled through his instagram account.
This man was too fine for his own good. She accepted his follow request and immediately received a DM from him.
ElijahDaniels: those your kids? They look just like u. KiyanaJackson_: yeah and thank you, lol. You’re the only person to ever say that. ElijahDaniels: i aint know you was married tho. Tell you husband my bad lmao. KiyanaJackson_: divorced actually. ElijahDaniels: good KiyanaJackson_ good? Lol ElijahDaniels: yeah, now i can get to know u better. ElijahDaniels: see u tomorrow ❤️
Mr Elijah Daniels MD 😉... our girl KiKi is back in the game!

An Illicit Affair
Part 37: Movie
Pairing: Cillian Murphy (46) x Reader (23)
Warning: Age-Gap, Taboo Relationship, Infidelity
During dinner, you brought up your last-minute plans to go away with Cillian for a few days, for a change of scenery and to escape the confines of your family home, which was an idea that neither of your parents appreciated very much.
"You have therapy sessions and your treatment, you can't just leave," your mother protested, but you were insistent.
"I know mum, but I think this little break will do us good," you argued while Cillian reached under the table and placed a comforting hand on your knee, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"I agree. I think a trip away might actually be helpful in Y/N's recovery," Cillian cajoled with an easy smile on his face.
"I suppose you are right," she admitted, offering a soft smile but your father shook his head, his eyes narrowed.
"No, it is not a good idea," he insisted. "You need to focus on your therapy sessions and your treatment! You have only been out of the hospital for a short time."
You rolled your eyes. "That's exactly why I want to go away. The constant appointments and therapist visits are driving me insane."
The room fell silent as your father looked back and forth between the two of you. Finally, he let out a deep sigh.
"Well, I don't like it, but I guess there's not much I can do to stop you. You are an adult now," he said reluctantly, shaking his head. "But no monkey business, alright?" your father said sternly, locking eyes with Cillian, which was a gesture that caused you to let out a giggle.
"Dad, please," you chuckled but your father looked ahead sternly, his expression serious.
"Alright, alright," you thus conceded with a smile. "No monkey business, I promise dad," you said, assuring him before turning to Cillian to work out the details of your trip together.
"Where would you like to go?" Cillian asked once again, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He couldn't wait to get away from everything with you.
"I don't care," you replied, your tone equally enthusiastic. "As long as we are together, I don't really mind where we go."
"What about the countryside? Or maybe a beach house somewhere?" Cillian suggested, thinking out loud. He seemed to be in deep thought as he ran through different ideas in his head, trying to pick the perfect place for you two to go.
"How about that bed and breakfast by the lake we used to go to when you were little? It's only a two-hour drive from here," your mother suggested, causing your father to shake his head once again.
"They only have small rooms. Y/N needs space and she needs her own bed," your father said, interrupting your mother.
You could feel the tension between your parents rising as they bickered back and forth, each of them trying to assert their opinion on where you should go.
Cillian, sensing the growing disagreement, decided to interject before things escalated any further. "What if we rent a house near Edinburgh? We can find something with plenty of space and privacy. That way, Y/N can have her own room and I will be nearby if she needs help," Cillian suggested, knowing how much you enjoyed that region.
Your father thought for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Now that's an idea that I can get on board with," he said, offering Cillian a small smile, while you narrowed your eyes slightly, wondering whether Cillian really wanted to stay in separate bedrooms while you were away.
***
After dinner, you went to your room with Cillian, telling your parents that you wanted some privacy with him to watch a movie in bed and, whilst your father did not like the idea of you spending time with Cillian on your own, he reluctantly nodded in agreement.
"Do you seriusly want to sleep in seperate bedrooms while we are away?" you asked right after you rolled on to your small bed with Cillian's help while he pulled out his phone, looking for a holiday rental for you.
"God no," Cillian laughed, not bothering to look up from the app on his phone. "I just wanted to put an end to the conversation and make sure that there were no objections from your father."
You chuckled, rolling to your side to face Cillian as he placed his phone down on your bedside table.
He glanced at you and smiled before reaching out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear. "I can't wait to share a bed with you again, actually," he told you , his voice heavy with desire.
You blushed at his words, feeling a familiar flutter in your chest. "I can't wait either," you replied softly, reaching out to take his hand in yours just as he leaned in to kiss you.
Laying face to face, on your small single bed, your lips met in a passionate kiss as you wrapped your arms around him and pulled him closer.
You could feel the heat of his body pressed against yours, his breath hot against your skin as he deepened the kiss.
You could feel yourself getting lost in the moment, forgetting about everything else except for him and the delicious sensations he was making you feel as, suddenly, your father barged in to the room without knocking, catching you mid kiss.
"I thought you were watching a movie," he said gruffly, causing both you and Cillian to jump apart abruptly.
"Fuck," you muttered under your breath as you tried to straighten your clothes and catch your breath. "And I thought we agreed on knocking before coming into my room," you said, trying your best to sound casual.
Cillian's face was as red as a tomato, but he quickly regained his composure and gave your father a polite smile. "We were about to," he replied, trying to hide his embarrassment.
You, on the other hand, could feel your cheeks flaming as you looked up at your father, who was still standing like a statue at the door with his arms crossed over his chest.
"I can tell," he replied dryly. "Look, I know I said that you could have some privacy together, but there are rules in my house that I expect to be followed young lady," your father said, his voice firm. "No shenanigans under my roof ." Your father's gaze shifted from you to Cillian. "Do I make myself clear?" he asked and Cillian nodded, his face still red, as you both tried hard not to laugh.
There was something almost comical about this entire situation, seeing that your father and Cillian were almost the same age, and yet your father was still acting as if Cillian was a young boy. But, then again, you supposed that was just the price to pay for pursuing a relationship with a man who was old enough to be your father. It was an awkward situation and, luckily for you, Cillian took everything in stride and gave your father a lop-sided smile.
After your father finally left the room, you were able to relax again and, as if nothing had happened, continued to kiss before, eventually, turning on a movie.
Neither of you paid much attention to the movie however, as you couldn't keep your hands off of each other. It was as if you were both addicted to the feeling of being around one another and, no matter how much you had, it was never enough.
Just as you were about to undo Cillian's belt, however, there was a knock on the door, startling you both.
"Come in," you called out, and, unsurprisingly, it was your father checking up on you again.
Cillian, seeming to be getting annoyed by his presence, quickly sat up straight and fixed his clothes while you paused the TV and took a deep breath.
"What is it now?" you asked, unable to hide your irritation as your father entered the room, looking around suspiciously as if he could catch you in the act of something scandalous.
"Just bringing you some popcorn," he then said, causing you to raise an eyebrow.
"So, what happened to the rule of no food in the bedrooms?" you chuckled, accepting the bowl of popcorn from your father who shrugged his shoulders before leaving your room again.
"Just this once," he instructed before closing the door behind him, leaving you alone with Cillian who let out a sigh of relief.
As soon as your father had stepped out of your room, you returned to the task at hand of undoing Cillian's belt who, immediately, stopped you in your tracks.
"We should wait until your parents are asleep," he whispered, his lips brushing against your ear as he spoke. "Because the last thing I want is for your father to catch me with my pants down," he added with a chuckle.
"True that," you said before asking whether he would be sneaking into your room later.
Cillian nodded in response and leaned in to give you a quick kiss. "If this is what you want," he whispered, his lips brushing against yours.
You nodded eagerly, whispering back that it was and, with a conspiratorial wink, Cillian promised to come by your room as soon as he was sure that your parents were fast asleep before you both finished with the movie.

♥ 3am cuddles - M.S ♥
word count: 645
Pairing: Matt sturniolo x Fem!reader
warnings!: swearing, angst, nightmares, mentions of death, cuddling, I think thats all but lmk
A.N: I kinda trauma dumped with the dream lol
Summery: after a heated arguement with Matt, you have a horrible nightmare that only he can comfort you about.
"Matt do you hear yourself right now?!? you're ridiculous!" You scream from across the room. You're nearing hour three of this stupid argument with your boyfriend, Matt.
It had all started when you hadn't instantly told off a guy who was trying to get your number at a store. Once you and Matt had gotten back to the rental house that you all were having a little vacation in, the argument started, and Matt had started yelling about if you were even committed enough to this relationship, to which you snapped back with the fact that Matt hadn't even told his triplet brothers that you two were dating, and that didn't seem like commitment you.
Three hours in and neither of you were backing down, Chris, Nate and Nick had gotten home earlier but conveniently walked right past you two, guessing that you'd need space.
"Well why the hell don't you do something about it then?" you screamed "if I'm do fucking non-comital, than maybe you should date someone who meets your standards!" Matts face, already red from yelling, glowed a deep shade of magenta
"For fucks sake y/n after all this you have the audacity to act like I don't care? I don't fucking leave you because I'm in love with you." your mouth fell open. How the fuck do I have such bad luck? the first time my boyfriend ever says that he loves me is probably the last, he's probably gonna dump me.
"listen, Matt-" you started before he left the room with a slam of the door. tears flooded into your eyes. This vacation couldn't be going any worse. no, it could get worse, and it probably would. with your luck, by tomorrow he'll have texted you something to the effect of "Its not me, its you." you slunk back up to your room. regrettably you weren't even able to have a good cry, because your room was right next to matt's. you fell onto bed, only bothering to throw off your shoes before you did so, and sank into a deep dream.
the dream was so vivid, you were there in the waiting room of a hospital, sobbing. All of your friends were there to, stone faced and scared looking. You saw a sunked faced sad looking nurse walk in. she turned to you and said in a shaky voice, "I'm so sorry Dear, but he's gone. Matt died." You sank to the floor and screamed, this couldn't be real. it couldn't.
"Y/N! Y/N! WAKE UP" a loud whisper woke you and with a jump, you realized that it was Matt.
"are you Ok? You just... screamed, and before that I could hear you talking in your sleep, you were saying my name." he said as he sank down next you.
"oh Matt, it was horrible" you sobbed, grabbing hold of him and pulling him into your embrace. he wrapped his strong hands around you and just sat there, cradling you for what seemed like hours. after you finally were able to breath, you raised your head from his chest.
"Matt, I am so sorry for everything i sa-" but you were cut off by his hand on your chin, pushing your lips up to his.
"shh its ok, I think we both said things we didn't mean" your heart sank, maybe the love confession was just a mistake, he didn't mean it. Noticing your sullen expression, he said
"but i did mean what I said, Y/n, I love you." he kissed you again hungrily, and pulled you into his grasp.
"I love you to Matt," you started, after coming up for air after a few minutes of spooning.
"oh yeah," he said with a boyish grin. "I forgot to tell you, but you also said that when you were sleep talking"

Hi, I’m so glad you’re back. Can you do Mammon and MC going on vacation in the human world with MC’s family?
Thank you
❤️❤️❤️
Of course I can! What a cute idea! Since I know there’s so many different family situations out there, I’m going to do my best to keep the family details as vague and general as possible! Thank you for the request! Also I wasn't sure if this was meant to be in a more friendly or romantic aspect, but it was hard for me to deny a couple's vacation, so I hope it's okay being Mammon x MC!
“Once more, from the top!”
Mammon groaned, flopping back onto their bed in their room. “Come oooon,” he whined. “Don’t make me go through all that again.” He attempted to beg, giving them some version of puppy eyes, his lips pleading with the human to give him a break.
They, unfortunately for him, would not stand down, no matter how adorable he may seem. “Mammon, you’re going to meet my family. My human family. In the human world. And I hate to break it to you, but neither you nor your brothers are very good at blending in. At all.” Which is why MC had spent way too long creating a plausible backstory, and why they were pressing Mammon so hard to remember it.
It had been about a month ago when MC’s family first reached out, sending them a letter about what they were missing at home. How did a human letter reach the Devildom in the first place? Probably thanks to Diavolo. The other humans were, obviously, still completely in the dark about where MC truly was, figuring they were simply studying abroad and not in what most humans would call hell. And in the contents of that letter was a suggestion of a vacation. A fully paid and fully planned vacation. After all, school would be out for a short break, and they wanted a chance to see MC again...and about this supposed ‘boy’ that MC had mentioned before.
“Why not just tell them about me? They’re your family after all, right?” He wondered, sitting back up on the bed with his legs crossed under him, his arms tucked near his knees.
They folded their arms, tilting their head at him. “Please don’t tell me you’re seriously asking that.” Well, now he looked a little wounded. They sighed, sitting next to him, putting their hand on his head. “Maybe in the future we can, but this is their first time meeting you. Aside from the hundred other problems revealing yourself would cause, trying to bring you and your realm’s entire existence up over dinner would either get me sent to a hospital or give them all mental breakdowns over the revelation that essentially everything they’ve ever known is a lie.”
His face suggested that he didn’t retain any of that, so focused on grinning like an idiot over MC’s touch, but then he finally looked at them curiously. “You didn’t have a mental breakdown.”
Sweet naïve boy. They did. They really did. But that wasn’t their main focus right now. “The point I’m trying to get across is that it's really important to me that we keep the truth a secret right now so we all can have a good time, okay? So please, can we go over the story together one more time so I don’t feel so nauseous?”
He finally sighed, his eyes softening towards them. “I didn’t realize it was that important to ya. Okay, just watch and see, I’ll be the best human ever!”
---
When they had heard the words ‘all-expenses-paid-vacation’, they expected, sure, maybe the hotel rooms and meal costs, but no...it was all paid for. Every single cent. Whatever their family didn’t cover, Diavolo did. Even this fancy rental car, which Mammon was more than happy to immediately jump into as soon as Barbatos had dropped them both off. “Yeah, baby!” He had shouted, leaping into the driver’s seat of the convertible.
MC couldn’t help but be a little hesitant. “Do you even know how to drive up here?”
“Yeah I do!” He beamed for a moment before his face fell a little bit, looking a bit annoyed. “Had to work hard for it too. Your laws up here are seriously ridiculous.” Then the moment of seriousness had passed. He leaned over to the other side of the car, grabbing the passenger side handle and pushing the door open. “Get in!”
With a playful roll of their eyes, MC loaded both theirs and Mammon’s luggage inside the vehicle before seating themselves in the car. It was...kind of nice, being in the human realm, seeing Mammon behind the wheel of a human car, a silly Hawaiian shirt on like one of those old dads that go on vacation. He adjusted his sunglasses, fiddling with the radio till some song that appealed to his taste pumped out the speakers. After making sure he was buckled up properly, they both set out on the road, the sun beaming down on them, the smell of the ocean in the air.
“Pop-quiz time!” MC announced, letting their hand hover off to the side, the air gusting through their open fingers.
Mammon groaned, keeping his eyes trained on the road no matter how much he wanted to turn to give them a glare of annoyance. “No quizzing on vacations!”
“Question one!” As they ignored him, his face scrunched up into a little pout. “Who are you, handsome stranger?”
He scoffed a bit, but they caught the redness that came to his cheeks. “Name’s Mason.”
MC clapped their hands together in a bit of glee. “Good!” At the praise, the color in his cheeks deepened. “What’re you going to school for?”
“Finance and fashion design.”
They leaned back in their seat, feeling a bit calmer knowing that he was actually retaining all this information. This whole human bit might work out after all. “And how did we meet?”
He sighed heavily. “It sounds so plain and simple! Not super special at all!” As they both slowed down to stop at a red light, he finally looked at them, a sulky look in his eyes. "Why couldn't we go with my idea?"
“Because," MC continued, their eyes softening at him. The idea had been really cute. He suggested that the story be that MC was crossing the street, when a car ran right through a red, trying to escape the blaring sirens of the cops chasing them! They were criminals, and now they were about to run into someone! He had seen this and courageously ran through the street to grab them, pulling them aside to safety. Somehow, at the end of his story, he had saved MC and then they both managed to stop the criminals, both of them getting reward money for doing so, and with that money, Mammon would suavely ask MC out for dinner. Obviously he had fashioned the story off some movie they had watched earlier. "The more cliché it is, the less my family will question it. Now, Mason, how did we meet?”
As traffic moved forward, he turned his head away from them, his answer monotone. “We share the same math general class together, but didn’t start talking to each other till we got grouped up for a project.”
“And after I asked you to help study with me for tests, we found we clicked! Perfectly human!” They reached over to rub his shoulder, lowering their hand to open the GPS on your phone. “We’re meeting my family at the airport. From there, we’ll check in at the hotel and go out to lunch.” They waited for him to make some sort of reply, but when he never did they raised their head. He suddenly looked too serious, mouth in a tight line, hardly looking at the scenery they both were passing. “Mammon?” He was caught up in his own head it seemed. MC turned down the music on the radio and placed their hand on his arm.
He blinked, removing one of his hands from the wheel to grab their hand. “I don’t wanna mess this up. I know how important it is to ya.”
They gave his hand a squeeze and then released it to let him place it back on the steering wheel. “You won’t. We wont. We’ll just keep to the story and enjoy our time up here, okay? Swimming, sand, surfing, sunning, just focus on that, okay? Oh, and don’t forget we need to bring all your brothers back a souvenir.”
He lightened a little bit at that, the little golden highlights in his hair shimmering under the human sun.
---
"MC!" Their name was called, picked up above the other busy voices in the airport. MC turned and grinned, holding their arms out for the inevitable embrace. Their family member wrapped their arms around them and grinned, pulling back shortly. "It's been so long! You look good. You've been okay so far from home?"
"I've never been better!" MC expressed, stating what mostly was the truth. Sure there had been bumps and bruises and...worse than that, but the time they had spent in the Devildom was an enjoyable one overall.
"And this is..." Someone else from MC's family spoke up, looking towards Mammon who was actually pacing a little bit behind MC, trying not to stand out too much.
It took Mammon a moment to collect himself, coming to stand by MC and hold his hand out. "I'm Mam--Mason," he shared, taking the hand of one of the humans and giving it a firm shake.
"It's so nice to finally meet you!" The person that had given MC the hug came over and led them away, everyone grabbing luggage to take outside. "He seems sweet. You'll have to tell me all about him!"
Mammon was suddenly left alone with the remaining members, obviously trying not to panic, laughing nervously at jokes as he kept up his human disguise. He helped take some of the family's luggage as he quickly followed behind MC. "So!" He exclaimed, changing the subject as he stood by MC's side. "Where we heading for lunch?"
One of the humans pulled up an image on their phone. "I found what looks to be a popular local restaurant not too far from here, and it's beachside too! A little pricy, but who could pass up eating and then going right out to swim? See?"
"That looks perfect? See, Mam-- babe?" They felt themselves almost sweating. They tried so hard to get Mammon to remember his 'new name' and yet they almost just let it slip themselves. Their quick thinking seemed to work though, although Mammon almost seemed like he was unable to breathe. MC encouraged Mammon to look at the photo which seemed to snap him out of it. Now he just seemed pumped.
"I'm going to eat so much sushi," he beamed.
"That's the spirit!" One of MC's family members announced. MC grinned. They were all getting along just fine.
MC jogged ahead a bit, looking back at the group as they nodded. "Let's all head back to the hotel so we can put away our stuff and grab our swimsuits! We've got plenty of sunlight left, people! Let's make the most of it!"
---
Lunch went really well. Everyone ordered too much expensive food and yet somehow managed to pack it all away. MC's family kept asking questions, and suddenly Mammon seemed more than happy to answer. It was mostly a little session to gush about how much he knew and liked about MC, and it was hard to tell if he was trying to get on their family's good side or if he really just enjoyed talking about them that much. Either way, it was sweet, even if it was clear that some members of MC's family found some things hard to believe. No demonic secrets were spilled at least.
But what they were all looking forward to was the beach. Everyone was dressed and ready. MC's family brought plenty of towels and toys to keep all of them entertained. They set up their spot away from the others, MC sitting in the shade of a large beach umbrella while they watched some others drag Mammon away for a little frisbee competition. They'd let him go and have a little bit of fun before dragging him away for them to be on their own for a little bit. For now though, they'd watch him mingle with the humans, a surprising smile on his face. For someone who seemed to not be able to stand humans when they first visited the Devildom, he seemed to be having a lot of fun with them.
Someone sat next to MC, opting out of the frisbee game to sit under the shade, opening a cooler to pull out a chilled can. They looked over at the others and then back at MC. "He seems like a good one."
"Hm?" MC looked back over at their family member, snapping out of their thoughts as the sound of the opened can cracked.
"Mason." They gestured towards Mammon, nodding a bit. "I was a little worried--"
"Oh please," MC sighed a little.
"I was! Here you are, disappearing all the sudden to study abroad and then later tell us you're with someone. We don't get pictures, we hardly get calls, we get a hand-written letter of all things, so yes, we were all a bit worried. But..." They leaned over and placed a hand on MC's shoulder. "There's something about him...can't quite place it, but he's...different. I can tell he's been good to you."
MC's heart swelled a little. They looked up towards Mammon right as he looked back. When they locked eyes, he beamed and waved, cupping his hands around his mouth to shout. "You better watch me beat these losers!"
MC cheered him on as he turned back towards the other humans. Then they felt MC's company nudge them a bit. "Is it true he's got six other siblings?"
"Uh, yeah," MC answered honestly.
"Next time we do this, we'll have to invite all of them. Imagine how fun that would be!"
MC chuckled nervously. Trying to get all seven demons to control themselves accordingly?...Sounds almost more like a nightmare. But also...Maybe there would be a proper day where they'd all get to meet. The humans MC cared most of all meeting the demons they cared for most of all. "I think that would be nice." Although, as the frisbee game seemed to be ending, MC got up quickly, hoping to get away for a bit before they were asked any more questions. "Be back in a bit!" They jogged over warm sand to snatch Mammon by the hand, dragging him away.
"Hey, what's going on?" Mammon wondered as they both headed towards the sea.
MC looked back at him, feeling the waves coming up to wash over their feet. "I just wanted you to myself for a bit, that's all." They headed over to a quieter part of the beach, walking towards the ocean till the water was at their waist. "Thank you," they suddenly said, looking out towards the waves, listening to the happy screams of children, to the birds above them.
"Huh?" Mammon moved to stand in front of them, holding their arms in his hands. "Why? What did I do?"
"Just...for everything. For coming up here, for following this story I made up, for getting along with my family. I hope you're having fun, I know you're not really used to being away from the others."
"You're here, that's all that really matters to me, you know that."
MC felt a warm tug in their chest. "I know. I love you."
Mammon had to look away for a moment, but inevitably glanced back. "I love you too." MC pulled at him a bit, gesturing for a kiss. PDA typically embarrassed him, but who was he to deny something like that? He closed his eyes and leaned over just in time to get a sudden splash of water in the face. He spluttered a bit, watching MC laugh and suddenly swim away. "Oi! You little....Come back!" He meant to sound frustrated, but he couldn't help but laugh, diving into the ocean to catch his human, snatching them by the waist. "Gotcha. Gimmie what you owe me."
"Fine, fine," MC, turning in his grasp to plant a kiss on his lips. "Hm, too salty."
"And whose fault is that for splashing me, huh? I think I deserve interest for that!"
MC wrapped their arms around his neck and kissed him once more, rubbing his back a little as they parted. "There, happy now?"
He hummed like he was thinking it over. "For now." They both waded in the water a bit, enjoying each other's company. "I'm really glad I get to be here with you. This has only been one day and yet I feel like the happiest demon in the world. This is going to be a great vacation."
"Yeah," MC agreed, the last bit of anxiety they were holding suddenly unraveled while they were in his arms. They looked off in the distance where their family was playing. "It will be."

When the ties are loosened and the gag removed, she doesn’t know what to do. Adrenaline tells her to fight or run, but her partner is holding her by the arms, looking at her with wide-eyed concern.
“Scully?”
“I’m fine,” she says automatically, but there’s a traitorous tremor in her voice. His finger comes up under her chin, tipping her face toward his, and she has the insane thought that he’s going to try to kiss her. She jerks away.
“I said I’m fine,” she whispers, but the words waver, and her chin trembles. Her whole body is shaking. He pulls her into his arms before anyone else can see, offering shelter from her own storm.
“It’s alright. It’s alright,” he murmurs, the words brushing the fine hair at her temple. She lets him pull her closer, wraps her arms around him until she can muster the strength to push him away.
“Thank you,” she sniffs, unable to meet his eye.
He gently takes her wrists, examining the damage. Chafing, but nothing deep. He takes her hand in his—warm and solid, she has a fleeting memory of walking with her father as a little girl—and leads her outside where an ambulance is waiting.
“I’ll be right back,” he says, gesturing for her to sit on the tailgate as he goes to look for Bocks. She hates how her heart begins to pound when he ducks out of sight and holds tight to the edge of her seat to stop from running after him like a lost child.
A paramedic approaches from behind and Scully starts, whirling around and reaching for her gun in one fluid motion. Mulder is suddenly by her side, holding her shoulders until she’s steady on her feet.
“Whoa,” the paramedic says, holding up her hands in mock surrender.
Scully flushes with shame when she realizes her error. “I thought you were…” she swallows hard in an effort to hold back tears. “I’m sorry. You startled me.”
“Good thing you weren’t carrying or we’d need another medic,” Mulder says mildly. His hand on her back is reassuring; he won’t leave her side again.
The woman is quick, applying salve to Scully’s chafed wrists, looking at her bruises with a critical eye. “These cuts are superficial, but I’d recommend a trip to the hospital to be—“
“No,” Scully cuts her off. “It’s a few bruises. I can take care of it.”
The paramedic looks at Mulder as if to ask for help, but he shrugs. “You heard her.”
She signs the medical waiver, then follows Mulder to the warmth of the rental car, tucking herself into the safety of the passenger’s seat. She breathes a sigh of relief as he closes the door, shrouding them from the chaos of the crime scene.
“I have a room at a motel near the airport. I’ll get us on the first flight out.”
She’s grateful when he doesn’t press her for information, just puts the car in gear and drives. She closes her eyes, forcing herself to relax each muscle in turn to take her mind off the burning sensation at her wrists, the taste of dirty cloth on the back of her tongue.
At the motel, Mulder grabs two bags from the trunk, one of which she recognizes as her carryon.
“Found this in your car, figured you might want it,” he says, handing her the bag. She takes it, surprised at the way her throat tightens at the gesture.
Mulder is already heading for the office. “I’ll get a second room—“
“No!” she says, her voice echoing too loudly in the near-empty parking lot. “No, I’d…rather not be alone.”
Mulder blinks, hesitating at the curb. “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” she says. “If it’s OK with you…I probably won’t be able to sleep, anyway. I’ll take a chair.”
“That’s not necessary, Scully. The bed’s big enough for two…if you promise you won’t take advantage of me.”
Her lips curl at the edges. “I promise.”
The motel room boasts the same drab furnishings and dingy carpet as any other, but to Scully, it feels like a homecoming. Three hours ago, she thought the last thing she’d see was the musty floor of a closet. This room is warm and bright and safe, her partner’s tall frame filling the doorway like a barricade.
Mulder locks and chains the door, walking around her to toss his jacket and bag in a chair. Only in the light does she notice the circles under his eyes, his rumpled dress shirt with the rolled-up sleeves, the deepening five-o’clock shadow across his cheeks.
“I’m going to shower,” she says, throwing off her heavy coat, suddenly desperate to get clean.
“Go for it,” Mulder says. “Are you hungry? I’m going to book our flight and get something to eat.”
The thought of food turns her stomach, but she nods. “I’ll have whatever you’re having,” she says, gathering fresh clothes from her recovered luggage.
When the bathroom door is closed and locked, she strips and kicks her ripped, bloodied clothing into the corner. The water is blessedly hot, and soon the room is filled with steam. She opens the body wash, but quickly closes it again. The floral scent makes her dizzy, conjuring images of cold baths and severed fingers. She grabs the plain white soap instead, scrubbing at her skin until it glows an angry red, until the water stings every inch of her body.
When it’s time to wash her hair, she finds herself staring at the tiny bottle of shampoo with dread. The sensation of her own fingers scraping at her scalp makes her heart thump hard against her ribs.
She turns off the water when her skin is raw and her muscles feel like softened clay. Her reflection is a ruddy smear in the mirror, begging to be examined for traces of evidence. There are bruises on her torso, arms, and legs. Her hair hangs limp and dark around her face.
The steam slowly dissipates as the air cools, until goosebumps dance across her skin, until she no longer recognizes the woman in front of her. She traces the scab on her chin with one finger, watches as the woman in the mirror does the same.
There’s a knock at the door.
“Scully? Pizza’s here.”
“Be right out,” she calls, forcing her gaze away from her unfamiliar self. She dresses in sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt, twisting her wet hair into a ponytail before opening the door. The smell of peppers and onions makes her mouth water; the shower has worked some small magic, at least.
“Got your favorite,” he says from across the room, a case file in one hand and a piece of pizza in the other. He’s sitting at the table wearing a clean gray t-shirt and jeans. “Hope you don’t mind, I started without you.”
“It’s fine,” she says, reaching for a napkin and a slice, taking a seat on the corner of the bed across from him. “I’m starving.”
They eat in silence. She catches him sneaking glances when he thinks she’s not looking, probably assessing her condition, perhaps thinking he should have insisted they go to the hospital. Eventually she clears her throat, tired of pretending to ignore him.
“How did you know where to find me?”
Mulder hesitates. “Pfaster’s mother had an old property…the house used to belong to her, was willed to one of his sisters. We traced the car back to her and I followed a hunch.”
A hunch, she thinks, stomach churning. It should be reassuring, but the relief in his eyes and the stubble at his jaw tells a longer, more complicated story.
As if reading her mind, he leans forward, touching her wrist. “It wasn’t as far out as it sounds. It would have seemed fitting to perform these acts of brutality in his mother’s space, as a kind of posthumous revenge. The profile was accurate. It was only a matter of time before we made the connection.”
Scully swallows hard, her mouth dry, the pizza threatening to come back up.
“Scully?”
“Hmm?” she looks up, realizes she’s been staring at her lap. “I’m sorry, I…I think I’m going to turn in.”
His brow furrows. “You haven’t finished your pizza.”
“I’m full,” she says, setting the half-eaten slice aside. “It’s been a long night.”
“Oh. Sure,” he says faintly.
She crawls to the head of the bed and slides under the covers, facing away from him, willing her stomach to settle.
“I’m going to start on the report,” Mulder says after a pause. “I’ll, uh, try not to keep you up.”
“It’s fine,” she lies. “I just need to rest.”
She doesn’t expect to sleep, so she’s surprised when her eyes close without her consent, when her body grows heavy after only a few minutes. She slips down into the dream, grasping at consciousness with frantic hands before finally sinking beyond its reach.
His cold hands in her hair, his breath in her ear, hissing like a snake. She struggles against invisible bonds as he pushes her under the water and holds her there. She tries to scream but everything is muted. His demonic face hovers over hers, twisted and deformed by the ripples on the surface.
There’s no way out, girly girl.
She gasps awake to Mulder shaking her by the shoulder.
“Scully, wake up. You’re dreaming.”
He’s propped up in bed next to her, legs stretched out on top of the covers. The television is on mute, casting a faint, flickering glow in the dark. She can feel the warmth of him through the blanket, has to stop herself from curling toward it like a paper touched by flame.
“Just a dream,” he repeats.
She jerks her head in a nod, blinking back tears. “I was back at the house. He was holding me under, I couldn’t breathe…“ she shudders, pulling the blanket more tightly around herself.
Mulder reaches over, pushes a strand of hair from her forehead in a gesture that’s both comforting and too intimate. “Wanna talk about it?”
Something about his presence in the low light reminds her of a confessional, and the words come tumbling out before she can stop them.
“I was tied up in a closet…it felt like hours. I know what to do in these situations, it’s what we’ve trained for, but I panicked. I couldn’t think, I couldn’t breathe…I would have pleaded for my life if I thought it would help—” she stops, taking a deep breath, holding it for a moment to ground herself until she can go on.
“I couldn’t even look at him. I’ve been afraid, of course, it’s part of the job, but…I’ve never been in a situation where I couldn’t face that fear. I couldn’t face him.”
“But you did,” Mulder says, grazing her chin with a fingertip. “You could have stayed in D.C. No one would have blamed you if you had, but you came back. You fought him off, Scully. You lived.”
He pauses before continuing, shifting his gaze to his lap. “I just wish you’d told me. I know you’re used to hiding it for the boys’ club, but I’m not them. I mean, I am,” he says, frowning. “But I’m your partner first, and I want you to—need you—to be honest with me.”
“I didn’t want you to have to protect me,” she says thickly.
He chuckles. “That’s my job, Scully. God knows you’ve saved my ass more times than I can count. Let me return the favor once in a while.”
She sniffs and nods, his fingers tracing a circle on her lower back in silent forgiveness.
“Your strength isn’t measured by your ability to face everything alone,” he murmurs. “If anyone taught me that, it’s you.”
There’s a long silence as he pulls his hand away, and she thinks about the other fears she has yet to confront. He shifts on the bed, long legs stretching as he settles back against the headboard. There’s the rustle of cellophane, the sound of a sunflower seed cracking between his teeth.
“Thank you,” she says after a moment. “I…feel better.”
He gives her a sidelong glance. “Would you tell me if you didn’t?”
His tone is light, but the question weighs on her conscience.
“I would,” she answers truthfully. She reaches for his hand, squeezing it. “I would, Mulder.”
He bites his lip and nods. In the dim light, his profile is softened, and she resists the urge to reach out and ruffle the boyish tuft of hair at his brow. “I know. Get some rest, Scully.”
She turns over, aware of the dip in the mattress where his weight subtly pulls her closer, and she lets it. There’s the sound of her partner’s steady breathing at her back, a comforting lilt.
This time, she does not dream.

So Saturday I woke up and before Sophie and Sam came over I went to my new house and put my new sheets on my new bed, and hung my bug net. Because I knew that the last thing I'd want to do after moving everything was then have to make my bed and struggle to hang the bug net in the dark. And there's no question of me sleeping WITHOUT my bug net.
Then I went and collected oranges to offer my friends as payment for helping me out because cooking for them was kinda out of the question because I have one plate and no food.
Then Toño and I changed the oil in the generator that he's leaving at my house.
So then Sophie and her guide showed up, and a little later Sam came to and we got all my shit to the new house. They all hung out while I got myself organized. Sam went up on the roof to install my solar panel.
It was my first time seeing Sophie since Ave Maria so that was really nice, and Sam is my bestie. For the most part we talked books all day because the three of us have just been swapping back and forth books.
After Sophie and her guide left I walked with Sam to the next two over, he has like a 2 1/2 walk from my town back to his so I walked for like 30 minutes with him to show him this really cool abandoned government building near the river. We spent a good amount of time trying to find a way inside and then headed our separate ways. For my first dinner I made boiled plantains (Sophie brought me plantains as a housewarming gift) with some spicy seasoning. Followed by a bottle of warm champagne that Sam brought me as a house warming gift. Had to toast to the new house.
The plantains tasted wonderfully and the champagne went straight to my head because the only things I ate had been oranges and a boiled plantain.
The two of them really hyped me up about my new place. It's 2 rooms: a bedroom and a kitchen area. And I am really lucky because Toño is leaving me with a bedframe, table, two chairs, washing machine, generator (for the washing machine), and helped me hook up my gas tank for the stove.
Sophie is having issues finding a rental option because there's a lot of drama in her town and her family keeps telling her she can't rent every option because the owners are bad people.
Sam doesn't have a rental option...and has been told he might have to build his own?
I'm feeling much more settled, and now that I have space to myself I will seek out social interaction more because it's not being forced upon me. Sunday night at like 8 pm (a little tipsy and pitch black) I walked back up to Elena's house to say thank you for her hospitality. When I tell you that I REALLY didn't want to, I mean it. But she goes to school in the city all day every Saturday so I didn't see her at all when I was moving things and even though she knew I was moving, I couldn't leave without saying anything. So I trudged up the hill and thanked her for her generosity. Then I went and slept in my brand new bed with brand new sheets and was terrified the entire time. The thing about a wooden shack is it's a lot easier for bugs to get in than a cement house, and as we've seen, the cement doesn't deter much anyways. I woke up at every noise and slept terribly. But it's a new space and I'm just not used to it.
The biggest issue is there is absolutely NO Signal at my new house. Obviously it's not the end of the world, it's just the one perk of living at Elena's that was so good was I could scroll Instagram from my bed. But Elena also lived on top of a pointy hill and my new house is in the shadow of that hill. Maybe I maintain a relationship with her just enough for some hammock/Instagram time.
Then Sunday morning I went to Penonome. I am technically supposed to be heading to chorrera to buy more shit that I need for my house (clothes hangers, duct tape, more dishware) but instead I'm heading to the capitol provincial city of the neighboring province, Cocle. Because conveniently, Penonome is halfway between Carlo and I. We've had this little date planned to see the new Planet of the Apes movie and get a hotel room for some time before I knew I was moving. But I'll never say no to AC/Electricity for a night (or seeing Carlo I suppose)
