Discarded Hearts

In the immensities of the castle of Hearts a heated discussion was taking place in the throne room. The red-painted room with several extravagant decorations worthy of the queen's attention, with family paintings that denoted the power of the most important card family in Wonderland.

Chase would have been sent to his room directly if he was younger, his mother loved him but there was a point that no one should go through, not even her own family and everyone knew it. The only person that would never ever make her mad was Lizzie, her little princess, but she wasn't near now, she couldn't save Chase this time.

The Jack of Hearts felt small, powerless in the presence of the queen, a former conqueror who managed to overthrow the most feared Wonderland tyrant of all time, owner of the most bloodthirsty hornhoof that ever existed and who had somehow been domesticated by herself.

- "You're nothing compared to me. Know your place, you were the one that decided to follow that path, so stick to your role. I haven't raised mediocre children who achieve nothing in their lives." -

Just like her daughter, the Queen of Hearts had problems to say what she really wanted to say and tended to shout too much, something that Chase was already used to but still trying to comprehend his mother.

- " I understand, but please... I'm your son too, what I need to do for you to be proud of me?" -

So the Jack of Hearts continued practicing with his sword in the battle field, maybe with that he could impress the beautiful princess of White Chessboard.

And maybe, just maybe be the best Jack of Hearts that Wonderland ever had.

Microanalyzing the text (or what happens when you run out of canon in a quarantine)

Rereading chapter 62 of ASOS, (Jaime VII) and here’s a few things I noticed this time:

1. Jaime’s predictions of Cersei’s turning to him for comfort when she cries is pretty revealing. Jaime’s sense of self is rooted in his role as Cersei’s protector. And he is.

I have no doubt that Cersei actually does save her moments of vulnerability for Jaime alone. The world wouldn’t let him be a knight but he can still be Cersei’s romantic hero. However, appealing to that need is also where Cersei gets a lot of her power over Jaime. Can he be vulnerable in front of her?

The thing about shields is that when they are broken, they aren’t repaired. They’re replaced.

2. The situational irony of Jaime’s image of Cersei being defenseless and Brienne demanding her armor, when we all know who has the most tender heart, is rich.

3. That said, Jaime stepping in front of Brienne when Loras comes to snatch her wig is 😘

4. The suffix -monger should come back to describe jobs. It makes everything sound both more accurate and sillier at the same time. CEOs would be moneymongers librarians bookmongers, cs techs datamongers, “influencers” famemongers

4. Could Bertram Beesbury be the funniest name GRRM has come up with? And then his on-the-nose beehive shield, lol. Please, please send me your pitches for GRRM’s rejected surnames and sigils. I’ll go first:

Cornelius Hornhoof. Rainbow unicorn on a purple field of flowers

Wendyll Quackenbush. Raft of ducks on blue.

Phobos Cloven. Wide-eyed deer against a yellow sun.
