It's been a long time since this song came across my playlist, and since my brain started screaming "SYLENS" while I was listening to it, I'd like to share it in that specific context. :B

August's theme for the Kotaloy Elysium Discord server's monthly prompt is beachside/seashells/swimming, and I went with a creation that isn't a fic: A playlist for Aloy and Kotallo to enjoy while they take a breather in the Burning Shores.

Read below if you want to know more on my picks for the songs.

All these songs give off a beachside vibe, but I also wanted to tell a story with the order I placed them in. There's the planning for the trip with first two songs, while OneRepublic's "I Ain't Worried" signals their arrival and how they are going to take time to forget their duties during this trip and get some much-needed relaxation.

The next five songs reflect that they are being carefree and enjoying different beach activities, like Tideripper surfing, Waterwing diving, cliff jumping, seashell collecting, and swimming as they start winding down for the evening.

The song that follows, Manu Chao's "Me Gustas Tú", is actually my favorite pick for this playlist, because it starts with the lines "Me gustan los aviones/Me gustas tú" (I like planes/I like you). If that doesn't scream Kotallo, I don't know what does.

Finally, we have "Fireflies" by Owl City and "Yellow" by Coldplay to reflect them realizing their feelings for one another and spending the night cuddling while enjoying the light from the fireflies around them (gonna say they're the ones that you can see in the tall red grass during nighttime) and gazing at the stars.

My final playlist! Day 5 of the Horizon Base Jams is fully Aloy-themed.

This one isn't in chronological order, for a change. In broad strokes, it portrays the pressure that Aloy feels as a connection between the past and the future, created to save the world, as well as her tendency to push people away and shoulder her troubles on her own while still helping others around her until she can't take it anymore and runs off after the Battle of the Spire.

But I decided to end in a hopeful note by sprinkling in some aroace Aloy and having her accept the company of her new friends like in HFW at last :)

Been poking at this list a while, for my favorite Solid Guy. It's a reflection of our time with Varl, largely constructed of Vibes but also laid out chronologically.

Song choice/vibe notes under the cut.

[Here I Am] - Just... baby Varl running around the Embrace. Out in the wilds, learning everything he'll need to grow into the warrior he becomes. I also like it in context of the Nora people in general, coming out into the world for the first time all those years ago.

[Hip to Be Square] - a cheeky nod to the fact that Varl is the exact flavor of dedicated, mostly-serious Good Dude that I'm drawn to in fiction.

[War] - Both in the matter of winning vengeance for his fallen sister and the decimation of Nora lands late in HZD, Varl is deeply grateful for Aloy's spear and bow at his side when things were at their worst.

[Let Me Try] - After Aloy saves the remainder of the Nora and asks for their aid on the Alight, Varl is eager to answer the call.

[Fatalis suite] - The Battle of the Alight, a fight against terrible odds and an enemy almost beyond comprehension.

[Into the Unknown] - Once the battle is won, the rest of the Nora gratefully return to the Sacred Land, but... Varl feels drawn to Aloy's side, to back her up no matter how far off the map she goes.

[I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)] - Seriously. You're not going to be able to shake this golden retriever off your heels.

[Someone to Fall Back On] - Rebuffed, but not willing to give up. He knows he's not up to Aloy's level, but that doesn't mean he's useless as an ally.

[Hey Brother] - the sibling language makes me happy here - I like to think that Varl mentally takes Aloy on as a sister once he gets past the whole Anointed thing.

[Battle Scars] - Especially appropriate for Aloy being injured post-Latopolis. Varl "carries her home," but also reminds her they both carry scars and are going to need each other.

[Count on Me] - Also good for Aloy recovery context.

[Accidentally in Love] - suddenly, T-boned by the most incredible Utaru woman.

[Shivers] - giddy infatuation ✨

[All Love Everything] - Varl as wife guy. I just. it's so cute to me.

[Conquest of Spaces] - Establishing the Base.

[Children of Planet Earth] - Study group begins. I'm devastated that in canon he wouldn't have made it to having access to the Voyager golden record.

[Count on Me] - a softer reaffirmation that Varl's got you - this time for Beta.

[Never Look Away] - Things are getting tougher and more complicated, but he's still dedicated to being the anchor point.

[Saturn Return] - More vibes than a literal match to anything specific, but things continue to get rougher and more dire leading up to the big mission.

[The Final Countdown] - Throwing a bone to myself here with something a bit silly, referencing the big Gemini mission and the fast approaching... end. There's also space imagery, which is a bonus. The aliens are not friends though :(

[Saturn] - Somber mood, reflecting on the beauty of life, a decent bookend to the opening song. Incredibly bittersweet. My boy didn't deserve this, in or out of fiction.

We are approaching the one year anniversary of the release of Horizon Forbidden West. Time really does keep on slippin’ slippin’ slippin, huh? To celebrate that, we’re hosting the first event since the Big Bang - Base Jams! This is a playlist creation event that runs from February 14th to February 18th. Each day will have a prompt available to you, if you’d like to use it, in order to inspire the creation of a playlist!

Rules:

All playlists should be between 5 and 10 songs.

17. What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

The timing of this question XD because that's what's happening right now, actually.

A few options!

Sometimes it's my music. It's just not vibing right, so I poke around for a new playlist. I listen to BLUME a lot, but for this dark and lonely place it just wasn't working and surprisingly enough the 7 hour Horizon Forbidden West OST vibed just right for me to finish it (the tones are so different I have no idea how).

Sometimes it's where I am in a story - that can be fixed by either skipping ahead or rewriting from a couple paragraphs back because maybe I can maneuver it a different way to make it flow easier.

Sometimes it's lack of energy/inability to focus. For me taking a nap isn't gonna help with that and I'm not going to drink caffeine to fix it (I've cut caffeine mostly out of my diet and that's part of my problem right now). So I....I watch amvs and gmvs and things like that (I have no idea what live action movies and show mvs are called lol). Nothing gets me hyped and inspired more than watched talented people piece together a mind blowing video set to awesome music and is (sometimes) (usually) a great character study (or it's just watching a favorite character be a badass).

Such a banger! The harmonies, their voices in general (Haewon my beloved~), the instrumantel?? ugh! Lives rent free in my head! Also! Haewons voice is somewhat how I picture Azars voice (at least when singing). Her tone and voice colour is just so beautiful! This song will also go in the AU playlist lol

Last movie/TV show: The Grand Budapest Hotel

Such a fun movie! Watched it with my parents on New Years Eve. Such a perfect mix of silly and serious. Sometimes you laugh until you can't breath, others you feel like curling up into a ball and just cry. It is a story in a story in a story in a story. So, to break it down is: we start with a girl reading a book by the bust of the author in a graveyard. We then listen to the author talking about an interview that is basically the book. We then switch to the younger self of the author (Jude Law) when he conducts the interview with the owner of the Grand Budapest Hotel. We then switch to the time when the owner was just a page/footboy (Tony Revelori) and telling the story of Gustave (Ralph Fiennes)- the concierge and later former owner of the Hotel. We then ping pong between the interview and the story told by the owner. It is told in five chapters. (Rant end!)

Sweet/spicy/savory: Leaning more to savory.

But also like sweet a lot! Spicy is my nemesis. I am so white i can't handel most spices lol. But I'm training my body to handel more!

Relationship status: Very, Very single

I am wishing/hoping for a relationship, though it is not my priority. In the mean time, I'm very hapy with my fictonal crushes lol

Besides that it is 'google scholar' (for my term paper) and 'star wars rebels manag read online'. Have yet to watch the show but I do like the manga version of it.

Current obsession: There is alot!

Arslan Senki (obviusly), my AU, Horizon Forbidden West (RIP Lance Reddick), Otoyomegatrai (a new chapter just came out!), Haikyuu... and this is only like the tip of the iceberg for reading/video game stuff! But if I write down more we would be here for an eternity lol. I also have discovered book nooks and have started to build one since last summer (had to stop due to space for our christmas tree).

Last book: Wolkenschloss (A castle in the Sky) by Kerstin Gier

Have given up on it rather early on. I'm just no longer in the targeted audience and I notice that while reading which sadly sours the reading experience. I just cringe at some things that I might have liked when I was around 15 or so. But before that I finished reading the first book of the Temeraire series - His Majesty's Dragon and have the next two volumes waiting for me. I had started it back in high school and wanted to read it again. It is so much fun and it's baiscally - what if there were dragons around the time Napoleon waged his wars (so in the 19th century) and there were riders for them and we focus on one (1) british navy soldier who got (unwillingly) adopted by a dragon freshly hetched from it's egg. And maybe, just maybe, said dragon might be a very rare one! (Also another point for the Temeraire series is that the author is Naomi Novik - one of the co-founders of our beloved and one and only AO3!)

Looking forward to: being done with my term paper

I have a lot of problems with it as it is my first one and I have no idea what I'm doing (I have talked with my tutoress and asked others about it but I just have to figure shit out as I go). I just want to create art and continue my AUs! I want to post my first chapter! maaaaan we need more hours in the day for just relaxing and hobbies
