Kimie's POV

Today is the day.

The day I finally confess my love for Hori.

After spending countless nights overthinking, rehearsing in front of my mirror, and watching every rom-com anime and dramas for inspiration, I’ve decided—it’s now or never.

I carefully wrote my confession letter last night, making sure every word sounded natural but not too desperate. I even sprayed it with my favorite perfume.. subtle yet alluring. The plan? Hand it to him directly after his dance practice.

Hori is the dance club president, the star of our school’s troupe. He moves like he’s weightless, like he was born for the stage. Meanwhile, I dance like a malfunctioning robot that ran out of battery. So yeah, I never made it into the club.

But that doesn’t matter. What matters is I’m going to confess!

As I head to school, my excitement dies a little. Because I have to pass through the alley.

You know the one—where the school’s unofficial gang of delinquents hangs out, looking all tough and mysterious, like they just walked out of a shoujo manga. I hate this route, but taking the long way would add an extra hour to my already miserable morning routine.

So, as usual, I take a deep breath, tell myself to mind my own business, and walk as fast as I can.

But my stupid eyes betray me.

I steal a glance—just a tiny one and BAM! Eye contact.

With Yusei.

Yusei, the school’s resident bad boy. The one who’s always frowning, always skipping class, and somehow, despite being a delinquent, still manages to be stupidly good-looking.

He’s leaning against the wall, arms crossed, staring right at me. WHY IS HE LOOKING AT ME!?

Panic mode: activated.

I whip my head forward and practically sprint the rest of the way to school. Nope. Not today.

--- Fast Forward ---

After classes, I casually (totally not stalking) watch Hori as he talks to—wait, hold on.

He’s talking to Yusei.

Why the hell is he talking to Yusei?!

Are they friends? Do they even know each other? Since when does Hori associate with delinquents?!

This is fine. Totally fine. I’ll just kill time in the library and wait for his practice to end.

One hour later, I march to the gymnasium, hyping myself up.

"Okay, Kimie, this is it. You’ve liked him for a year. If he accepts, great! If not, at least you tried. No regrets. You got this!"

I peek inside. Most of the club members have already left. Good sign. That means Hori is probably still cleaning up.

I spot him inside the locker room, fixing his stuff. He’s alone. Perfect!

I take a deep breath, fix my hair for the hundredth time, check my pocket mirror, reapply my lip balm, and mentally prepare for battle.

It’s now or never.

With my heart hammering against my chest, I walk into the locker room entrance.

The moment I sense someone coming out, I instinctively bow, holding the letter out with both hands. DO NOT LOOK UP.

“I like you! I’ve liked you for almost a year now! Please accept my letter!”

I squeeze my eyes shut, my entire body trembling from embarrassment. This is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done.

Silence.

Then—

“Oh? Yusei, nice one, man! Another confession again?”

Wait.

WHAT!!!???

My eyes snap open.

Instead of Hori’s kind and graceful face, I see Yusei standing in front of me, looking completely amused.

HOLD UPPPPPP—WHY IS IT YUSEI!?

I turn my head in horror as Hori pats Yusei on the shoulder. “I’ll leave you two to talk” he says, smiling at me before casually walking away.

NOOOOOOO!!! COME BACK!!! THIS IS A MISUNDERSTANDING!!!

I open my mouth to call after him, but—

“H-Horii—wai—”

Before I can explain, Yusei gets the letter from my hands like he’s taking candy from a child and walks off.

“H-hey! That’s mine!” I chase after him, reaching for the letter, but he holds it up, out of my reach.

“It’s mine now” he says coolly, his deep voice making my heart stutter in the worst way possible. “You just confessed. You gave it to me.”

I freeze.

He’s right. Technically, I did hand it to him.

Oh my god, I just confessed to Yusei.

I must look like an idiot because he smirks, waving the letter playfully before turning to leave.

“Thank you for the letter" he calls out.

I gawk at him. “T-that’s not for you!”

He stops, turns around, and smiles.

“I know” he says. “See you tomorrow, cutie.”

CUTIE!? WHO!? ME!?

And with that, he leaves me standing there, completely wrecked.

---The Day After--

I barely sleep. My entire night is spent playing my failed confession in 4K Ultra HD.

I don’t want to go to school 😭

I don’t want to see Yusei’s smug face.

I don’t want to see Hori, who probably thinks I like Yusei now.

I want to disappear.

But life is cruel, and so is my alarm clock.

Dragging myself out of bed, I realize—shit, I have to pass through the alley again.

Yusei is definitely going to be there, waiting to humiliate me.

Maybe I should start waking up an hour earlier just to take the long way.

But when I reach the alley—

It’s empty.

Huh?

That’s weird. Yusei and his delinquent squad are always here.

I sigh in relief. Maybe today won’t be so bad after all.

But just as I start walking toward school—

A familiar voice behind me says—

“Looking for me, cutie?”

OH. MY. GOD.

I freeze.

My brain is still processing from hearing his voice behind me.

Did I mishear that? Maybe it was the wind? Maybe it--

Nope.

I slowly turn my head and there he is—Yusei, standing way too close, his usual frown replaced with a smirk.

“I—W-WHAT!?” I stutter, taking a step back.

He casually shoves his hands in his pockets. “I said, looking for me, cutie?”

CUTIE!? AGAIN!?

I nearly choke on my own spit. “W-WHY WOULD I LOOK FOR YOU!?”

“You were staring at my usual spot” he says, tilting his head. “Kinda cute how disappointed you looked when I wasn’t there.”

EXCUSE ME!??

I quickly shake my head, flailing my hands. “T-That wasn’t disappointment! That was relief! PURE RELIEF!”

He chuckles. CHUCKLES. Like he finds this entire thing amusing.

And then he starts walking beside me.

Wait. WAIT.

“What are you doing!?” I ask, glaring at him.

“What’s it look like?” he replies, walking at my pace like we’re friends or something.

“Uhh, it looks like you’re following me” I grumble.

“I’m not following you” he says casually. “I’m just walking beside you. Big difference.”

I squint at him. “So you just coincidentally decided to go to school at the same time as me? On the same route? Walking right next to me?”

He shrugs. “Guess so.”

This guy— THIS GUY IS A MENACE.

As we enter the school gates together, something shifts in the atmosphere.

People are staring.

People are whispering.

I even see someone trip over their own feet while staring at us like we’re an alien sighting.

A group of girls from my class literally stops walking. “I-is that Kimie!?” one of them whisper-yells. “With Yusei!?”

“Since when were they close!?” another hisses.

I can hear it all. THE ENTIRE SCHOOL IS SHOOK.

And honestly? Same. What is happening.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING.

I risk a glance at Yusei, expecting him to at least be annoyed by the attention—but no. He looks completely unbothered.

I, on the other hand, feel like crawling into a locker and staying there forever.

And then I see Hori down the hallway.

Hori is standing near his locker, chatting with some dance club members. He looks up just as we pass by.

Our eyes meet. Oh god. He saw me.

Does he think I actually confessed to Yusei yesterday? That I meant to give him the letter? That I—

Before I can even breathe, I suddenly feel a weight on my shoulder.

I glance to my right and

YUSEI JUST PUT HIS ARM AROUND ME.

WHAT THE ACTUAL—!?

“Morning, Hori” Yusei calls out casually.

Hori’s eyes flicker between me and Yusei. His usual calm expression falters just a little.

The entire hallway goes silent.

I hear gasps. Someone drops their books. I think I see a teacher peeking out of the faculty room.

WHAT IS HAPPENING.

I try to get out from under Yusei’s arm, but his grip just tightens slightly.

“Why do you look so tense, cutie?” he whispers near my ear, amusement dripping from his voice.

CUTIE. AGAIN. STOP IT.

Hori watches all of this with a blank face, but something about his expression feels… different.

I gulp.

I don’t know what’s going on, but I do know one thing—

MY LIFE IS OFFICIALLY RUINED.

Maho Aku Episode 12 Review + Final Thoughts - The Cutest Enemies-To-Lovers Story

Because this anime’s finale is just Byakuya and Mira being cute as heck for the final time, I’m going to just give my overall thoughts about the entire anime!

This is the cutest enemies-to-lover anime I’ve watched and now it’s over… This is a show where it’s impossible to ask for a second season because there isn’t anything else to adapt. Still, I can’t deny that this has been one of the most entertaining animes of this season…and it’s only a 12-minute long anime!

It’s crazy how much Bones did to make this weekly 12-minute anime be concise with the pacing and how well they animated it! I loved the cute moments between Byakuya and Mira and how each character helped play a part for both leads, whether they be the sleaziest and the worst character (Cat Familiar), or the cutest thing ever (Fomalhaut). From the beginning, Mira fell for Byakuya, so it was nice seeing her fall for him throughout the 12 episodes. I do like that all the characters have distinct personalities, even if they don’t appear much. I personally enjoyed Hibana and loved whenever she showed up on screen to give Byakuya a chiropractic adjustment and throwing f-bombs.

I like the world building with how there are actually multiple magical girls and familiars with the introduction of Hibana and her Bird Familiar and how the familiars are actually angels. The evil organization fight against the magical girls, but I do wish that we get to learn a bit more about them—we never even saw the Evil King. I guess my only issue with the worldbuilding is that I wish there was more to it. Why do the familiars need the magical girls? Who’s the actual villain? The fact that these will never get answered does upset me slightly.

The music was great! I really loved the songs used for the magical girl transformation! Hibana’s magical girl song was clearly the highlight with the constant blurting of F*ck in the background. I also loved the opening and ending songs as they were catchy!

The voice acting was really good! The two leads reprised their roles from the drama CD and I think they did a good job! I normally associate Yuuki Ono with cool roles, so it was nice to see him do comedy! Actually, I did like his role as Hori from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun! I feel like Ono amped up his comedy game with this anime! His outbursts were so hilarious, especially when he flips his switch from serious to down bad. Byakuya is voiced by Mai Nakahara. It’s nice to hear Nakahara not voice an anime mom for once! Two animes I’ve watched, she voiced an anime mom. It was nice to hear her go out of her usual comfort zone and voice soft-spoken and adorable Byakuya! I think she did a really good job making Byakuya sound young and convincingly young! The other cast did a splendid job with their characters! Other than Hibana and the Bird Familiar, I also enjoyed Hiro Shimono as Alcyone because I originally thought he was Natsuki Hanae, so I’m mentioning him here because he fooled me. Though, if I had to pick a stand out role, it’d be Ayako Kawasumi as Bellatrix. No one ever expected the stoic and aloof officer to be extremely perverted! I sure didn’t!

Overall, this is a quick watch but I totally recommend it if you want something cute to watch! It’s super cute! I do plan on getting the manga! What are your thoughts on the anime as a whole?
