“Daddy! Daddy!” Fric said, tugging impatiently on Liam’s pant leg.

Liam looked down, relieved for the interruption. “Yes, Master Jonathan?”

“We saw you fall on the TV! Are you still hurted? Mommy said you were in the hoplittle!”

Frac spoke up. “Yeah, Daddy! Mommy cwied but we gave her out faybrit sandich and she stopped.”

Liam looked at Riley with wide eyes filled with anger and disbelief. “How did our children see what happened, Riley? They are not allowed to watch television until after their bath and lessons! We agreed on that!”

Riley folded her arms across her chest as her eyes glared at Liam. “Don’t EVEN try to make this about my parenting skills, Liam!”

“And then Mommy was on the TV and we had hotdogs and ice cream. A WHOOOLE lot!” Frac said proudly.

Liam’s eyes grew even bigger. “I told you to wait until I returned for that! It was to be a family treat!”

“Yeah, well in my defense, YOU WERE DEAD!”

“Are you fighting?” Frac asked with a stricken look on his face.

Riley unfolded her arms and squatted, holding her arms out. All of the children rushed into her embrace, nearly knocking her over. “No, loves. Daddy and I aren’t fighting. We’re just … yelling.”

“Why?” Fric whined.

Riley made a funny face and deepened her voice. “Because Daddy’s a mean, mean man.”

The children giggled as Riley kissed their cheeks. She rose, pushing the boys towards Mara and Drake. “You guys go with Miss Mara and Uncle Drake for your baths. Mr. French and Mr. Sal are going to cook us a salami-free breakfast. “

“What about you and Daddy?” Frac asked.

Riley was rummaging in her purse. Her hand curled around her straight razor. “We’re going to have a little talk.”
