The first bit of equipment arrived. I needed something in my budget that could do polyphonic sounds (and more than 4 voices so I could do full multi-octave chords), so I narrowed down what I needed to the Yamaha reface series... and while I know a lot of people swear by the DX style of FM synth, I needed something that I could easily adjust while I’m playing, so I went with the CS. As nice as the DX seems, it seems like it’s more about setting up patches ahead of time rather than modifying them on the fly. Both of which have their time and place, but this was what I wanted and needed more right now.

The rest of my equipment will be trickling in over the next couple months, so hopefully that’ll give me time to get a feel for everything as they come in.

My spouse and I are still shaking off the effects of the second covid shot, so when my spouse decided to take a nap I dug out the nearest set of wired headphones I had and decided to noodle around with the new synth. Already after only having it for a little while, I was playing around with the looper and I got a nice little background loop going, and I freestyled a solo line along with it. Unfortunately the other package that was supposed to arrive today, the one with all of the cables that I’d need to hook it up to my computer or my little Zoom H2 and record, well it hasn’t shown up yet. So you’ll have to take my word on how nice it was.

I gotta say, I was expecting this little thing to be somewhere in the ‘adequite’ range, and it’s actually in the ‘pretty dang sweet’ range for me. It’s simple, doesn’t have a whole lot of bells and whistles. But it’s got what I need.

... I also just noticed that my drink coaster is on the little table there in the picture, but there’s no drink. And one of the side effects of the second covid shot for me has been random dry throat. I should go get a drink in case it hits again. Hopefully the cables will get here soon so I can maybe upload a little sample of what this baby can do.

... I also just noticed that I still have 6 reblogs in my queue from the last several months, when I was hesitant to post anything because I wasn’t making any of my own original stuff to inter-space with it. I’ll set some of them to actually start posting.
