CAT VIOLET???? Also TAIRN NAP????

The cat!Violet story is still very much in the works, but it's basically a post-canon fic where:

Violet drowns in a lake after falling off Tairn’s back during the final battle against venin.

They win the war but Xaden never stops grieving. He moves back to a small home in Aretia, drowns himself in work, and develops a fear of the water.

A little cat shows up at his front door one evening. This cat is Violet, though Xaden has no way of knowing that.

On the brink of death, Violet made a deal with Zihnal, who allowed her to return to her human body on the condition that someone calls her by her name.

Ensue fluff and angst where cat!Violet desperately tries to get Xaden to say her name, while Xaden begrudgingly houses a stray cat who for some reason keeps trampling on the violets in his garden.

She knows Kara will always find her. 

Lena has, alternately and with varying degrees of intensity over the course of their entanglement, dreamed of, counted on, wished for, and dreaded Kara finding her. But deep, deep down, she's always known that she would. 

Today, though. Today, she'd hoped to have a little more time first. 

“Supergirl?” she asks as the bunker's early warning system flares awake, though she already knows the answer. Kara will always find her. It is the blessing and the curse of Lena's life. 

“Don't worry,” come Hope's dulcet tones, specifically engineered to invoke calm and reassurance. For a moment, it even works. Fuck, but Lena's good at what she does. “The bunker's online. She can't find us.” 

An image of Kara, windswept and perfect, appears on the bunker's granite wall. Lena curses her brother all the way back to his hairless primate forefathers for his penchant for live feeds, his perverse panopticism. She's never wanted to look her own destruction in the eye. 

Something whirs to life deep within the mountain, shuddering through the bedrock. “These are Lex's countermeasures,” Lena realises aloud even as the canons prime, even as despair swallows her whole. 

“What do we do?” Hope asks, and even the AI sounds rattled. 

There's a ringing in Lena's ears, high and thin like white static. Ion ray cannons armed, read the illuminated letters on the control panel. 

Her eyes flicker to the figure onscreen. She knows that look, that set of the jaw. Lena has maybe thirty seconds before the battering ram of Kara's earnest saviourism comes pummelling into her bunker and into her life. All intention and little finesse, Supergirl will crack the heart of this mountain if she believes it's keeping them apart. 

A decision must be made here. She's already long out of time.

Fairy gardens - they're just so cute and full of whimsy. I wish that more people had them. Even the smallest ones make potted plants just that much better

ohhhh, well uhm i feel like i haven't read many fantasy adventure stories that aren't popular so this list is probably suuuper boring 😅

the green bone saga by fona lee (it's an urban fantasy mafia family drama AND IT'S AMAZING!!!!!!!! not classical adventure, unless you count running a mob adventurous, but there is a lot of political intrigue and mystery and interesting dynamics. i don't know enough people who have read this, but let me tell you i am utterly obsessed with the characters in these books.)

saga by brian k. vaughan & fiona staples (it's a comic/graphic novel and SO GOOD!!! i any of the volumes that came out this year yet, but everything before the hiatus was stellar.)

the mistborn series OR warbreaker (standalone) by brandon sanderson (probably the most fantasy-adventure-y recs in the classical sense. very interesting magic systems (duh, it's sanderson))

honorable mentions: the poppy war series by r.f. kuang (one of my favourite series with some of my favourite characters ever. very fantasy, not that adventure-y, but a fascinating record of a great corruption arc. look up trigger warning first bc there are A LOT.) the winternight trilogy bc katherine arden (a blend of magical realism and historical fiction, steeped in slavic folklore, very atmospheric, one of the best endings of a book series i have read in recent years.) the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater (since we're on tumblr i don't think i actually have to tell you about this one. also more magical realism. i just reread it over the weekend so i am feeling very nostalgic about it right now. it's so good and even after all these years it's still one of my favourite book series ever.)
