Hey! Sorry if this has been asked before, but I’m still a bit confused as to what Noe and Deca are exactly. I get that they are glitches, but how? And why? I never played the first games so perhaps this is where my lack of understanding comes from. I read the Wikipedia page about MissingNo., but would love to learn what your thoughts are behind them. Thanks!

So my take on them is basically personifying the glitches I was obsessed with as a kid! So we’re working with 3 glitches total here: Bad Egg, Decamark, and Missingno.

Bad Egg is how a Pokémon game stores or contains corrupted data in the simplest of terms, I used this in my story as something Arceus created to contain/remove real world glitches, anomalies, and laws of the universe defying happenings.

Eventually, Noe’s sentient ramblings and time spent with Bad Egg rubbed odd in one way or another, thus becoming a Decamark.

A Decamark, in their simplest explanation, is what appears when what should be there, isn’t there. Think entering a Pokémon battle in game, but you’re entire party is fainted via glitches/cheats, so a Decamark will be thrown out in its place!

I personify this by having it hatch from the Bad Egg, given when an egg hatches, somethings suppose to be there. Except, bad eggs can’t hatch a real Pokémon usually, so instead a Decamark appears. Given its from Bad Egg’s tho, it continues Bad Egg’s job. Thus when things that shouldn’t exist, aka anomalies, Decamark’s job is to correct/contain through eating them! Digesting them and using it to supply their own powers.

Missingno. is a bit more complicated and been explained better previously, so I’ll skip the brief summary about its in game counterpart.

So, my Missingno. on the other hand is a bit different, their original job/purpose hasn’t been revealed yet. However, after they appeared early, they were granted the same job as Bad Egg. Aka contains and eating anomalies to keep the world in check. Noe has a variety of different abilities due to the glitch being very fleshed out in the sense of what we know about it and the purpose it served.

The 3 of them are basically entities, not organisms, that exist outside the natural world to keep the said natural world functioning. Noe just happened to be related job wise to Meau and the two become besties, thus allowing for some shenanigans to lead to his current position. Him and Bad Egg/Decamark were never meant to both exist, so when they do funny stuff happens, like bad egg hatching ;D
