Summary : Jinx is not alone when you come home

You were walking through the streets of Zaun with your head down, a hood covering your hair, passing through the less frequented streets and making sure not to attract anyone's attention.

You held tightly to the bag you had brought, now filled to the brim; it was a bit heavy, but it was worth it.

You were coming back from Piltover, where a small festival was taking place, in the city and the opportunity was too good to miss.

Generally, you didn't go to Piltover often, but today you had a very specific reason: to find a gift for your girlfriend, Jinx.

With Jinx's face plastered on every wall in Zaun and Piltover, you had agreed that it was better for her to keep a low profile for a while.

Jinx didn't always stay in your hideout; she often wandered the streets of Zaun but she made sure not to be noticed.

Jinx hadn't been doing very well lately. Accidentally killing Silco had really affected her. She stayed in bed for a week without getting up. Every time you returned from a trip through the streets of Zaun, she would drag you to bed, lay her head on your chest, and stay there without moving for several hours, allowing you to run your fingers through her hair.

Sometimes her nightmares were so intense that her screams would wake you up. In those moments, you would take her in your arms and spend long minutes comforting her, and often she would end up falling asleep in your arms.

That's why you had taken advantage of this day to give her a gift: in your bag was an adorable all-white cat plushie, and you had immediately known that Jinx would love it.

She was surely going to cover it with all sorts of colors, and you didn't mind at all; you loved seeing her have fun drawing on everything and anything. It always made her happy, and seeing her like that made you happy too.

You descended the hidden staircase that led to your hideout, hearing Jinx long before you saw her.

-What am I going to do now? It's not like I could chase you away, you'd just end up alone. Who would take care of you ?

You thought she was still talking to her voices. It happened to her often lately, surely because of Silco's premature death. But the more you heard her, the more it seemed like she was talking to a real person.

You placed your bag at your feet and removed your sweatshirt, freeing your braid from the hood, and let the air refresh you before joining Jinx.

-Jinx, who are you talking to ?

She turned around abruptly and had a slight embarrassed look upon seeing you.

-Um. I need to tell you something.

Behind her, you saw a little girl timidly appear, who didn't seem older than 10 years old. She was brunette and wore a miner's helmet; her amber eyes never left you.

-Who is she ?

-Her name's Isha, she fell on me. Literally. I mean, I was walking down the street when she fell on me.

You looked at Isha more closely. She didn't seem mean or dangerous. Jinx didn't seem to be wary either, which meant there was nothing to fear.

Your voice softened.

-What is she doing here, did she follow you?

Jinx didn't let anyone else but you and Sevika come here; the only other person who could set foot here without being chased away by Jinx's gun was Silco, but now he would never come again.

-I brought her with me. I don't even know why. I couldn't leave her there all alone. I had to do something.

She really didn't seem to know why she had brought this little girl. But if Isha was alone, it surely meant her parents were dead, because in Zaun, no parent abandons their child.

That's when you understood. Just as Silco had done for her all those years ago, Jinx had now, in turn, saved an abandoned child deprived of her family.

Behind her, Isha continued to look at you shyly, her golden eyes seeming lost, shifting between you and Jinx without really knowing where to settle them.

You hadn't said anything, but Jinx knew you wouldn't chase this little girl away because you loved children and knew what it was like to be alone without parents.

You approached her and crouched down to her level. She backed away a bit when she saw you reach into your bag, but she calmed down when you offered her a candy with a smile.

-It looks like you've just found yourself a new home, sweetie.

Isha caught you by surprise when she threw herself into your arms, her head against your chest, and hugged you tightly. You smiled and stroked her hair.

Jinx looked at both of you, and for the first time in a long while, a small smile spread across her lips. She knew that everything would be better now.

this idea for phantom troupe hcs came to me randomly at 2:00am last night so enjoy xoxo

-he’s generally a super quiet sleeper

-the loudest he ever is in his sleep is breathing loudly on occasion

-his lack of snoring is most likely attributed by the fact he’s a very light sleeper

-he’s one of those bitches who will wake up because the whistling of the wind was slightly louder than usual

-his snores are earth-shaking. ear-splitting. pain-inducing.

-if the troupe members have to share a room at any point during a mission, they will throw a whole rock paper scissors tournament to see who’s taking one for the team and sacrificing their sleep (it’s usually nobunaga)

-because covering his mouth with a sock doesn’t stop the snoring, the troupe have an emergency weighted blanket on standby

-the complete opposite of chrollo, this man could sleep in an active war zone and and not budge an inch (in other words you cannot wake his ass up by force to get him to stop snoring so the only option is to wait it out or sleep somewhere else)

Hearing her name, your mother perked her head up.

“Y/n! Goodness you're awake. Baby… what happened? I found you on the floor outside…what were you doing? You know how dangerous that is with your condition.” your mother lectured as she began to hug you.

“I know mom, I know.” you mumbled as you laid stiff on the bed, not having the current energy to hug her back.

“Baby…tell me, what were you doing outside?” your mother asked once more.

Your eyes welled up with tears as you recalled the events from earlier.

“I don't remember.” you lied as you shifted your gaze from your mom to your hands.

A slight frown made way to her face.

“Sweetie…just know that you can trust me okay..?” your mother softly spoke as she began stroking your hair before getting up from the chair.

“I know mom.” you forcefully smiled as you blinked the tears away.

Your mother smiled back before walking away towards the door.

She gave you one last worried look before shutting the door and leaving the room.

You let out a choked sob as your tears began to gush out.

He let out a sigh before speaking.

All you could think of right now was Rin.

Your mother's anguished cries echoed through the hallway, after all, her beloved child was dying.

A group of hospital staff hurriedly brought you into the emergency room as they tried to keep you alive.

The heart monitor appeared to be showing an irregular and alarming increase in speed.

The nurses and doctors did everything in their willpower to wake you up.

You were unconscious and your life was slipping away.

Other nurses tried holding your mom back from entering the room.

Screams and crys were heard from her as they kept her out the room.

“Yeah, I am. Is something wrong?” he asked as he observed his mother's actions.

His mother paused at his words, her eyes welling up as she responded.

“Rin…i think you need to sit down for this..” his mother wobbily spoke as she led him to the couch.

“Mom what happened?” he asked once more as he felt his body coursing with anxiety.

Rin wasn't sure what to expect as his mother let out a heavy sigh, revealing that the words she was about to speak were going to be difficult for the both of them.

“Rin…Y/n…she..”

"She what?" he asked as his mother paused mid-sentence.

He felt his anxiety worsened at the mention of Y/n.

Had something happened to her while he was gone?

He didn't want to think that but the way his mother is acting…it must've been bad.

"Rin, she passed away," his mother softly whispered as she hung her head low.

Rin's mind seemed to have stopped as he stared at his mother.

Her lip quivered ever so slightly.

He scanned her face, trying to detect if there were any lies or fake acts.

Unfortunately…he found none.

He felt his heart drop.

‘No…but…how..?’

He sat there, motionless.

He didn't want to believe it, no way.

His eyes began to sting.

Was he…crying?

He lifted his hand to touch his face.

Just as expected, he felt tears.

Before long, he felt more tears welling up. He couldn't hold them back.

Tears poured uncontrollably from his eyes, he tried to restrain them, but his tears flowed as they showed no signs of stopping.

It was too much to handle.

He didn't even get to say goodbye to you.

But most importantly…how did you…

“Mom…” he whispered as his voice cracked a little.

“Yes Rin..?” his mom sniffled as she used a tissue to wipe her stained face.

“How did she…” he trailed off, not wanting to finish the words.

“Heart failure...” his mother answered.

He let out a quiet sob.

Why? Why didn't you tell him?

He couldn't help but blame himself. He would've never done what he did if he knew you were going to pass away.

No…he would've spent all his time with you.

“Before I forget Rin…Y/n…she wanted you to have this. It was her final request.” his mom softly spoke, breaking Rin out of his thoughts to hand him your phone.

He quietly grabbed your phone as fresh tears were stuck on his face.

“I think you should read it in a more private space.” his mom whispered as she felt concerned for Rin.

After all, she did always see them together almost every day.

With a nod, Rin forced himself up and began walking to his room.

He opened his door and plopped down on the bed, staring at your phone.

After a while of mentally preparing himself, he finally unlocked your phone to find out you had no passcode.

You probably really did want him to have your phone.

As he looked through your phone, he finally opened the app, ‘notes.’

The first note to ever pop up was titled, “For Rin.”

Rin hesitantly clicked on it as he slowly read your notes.

‘Hey Rin, if your reading this then I guess its already happened. I'm sorry I didn't get to tell you earlier, I just didn't want to burden you any further and ‘force’ you to stay. You probably wouldn't even believe me and think that I would be making it all up just to get you to stay for my selfish reasons.’

“You were never a burden to me…” Rin softly whispered as he felt his eyes stinging once more.

He felt his warm tears drip down his face and land on your phone.

Nevertheless, he kept reading.

‘Beaides all that, I just wanted to tell you that this ‘heart condition’ has been going on for a while since I was young. I never thought to bring it up back then because I didn't want my silly condition to get in the way of our fun.

Now I realize that it was stupid of me to not bring it up as it only worsened from that point on.

All those times when I said I couldn't play because I was ‘sick’ and had a ‘fever’ were all partially true but it wasn't the whole truth.

The day that you left, I wanted to tell you right then and there everything, but couldn't.

When you were gone from my vision, I suddenly collapsed and woke up in the hospital.

The doctor told me I didn't have long left to live.

When he told me those words, I felt like breaking down.

Surprisingly, I didn't but still felt very miserable by the news.

But to be honest, all I could think about was you, Rin.

Even though I'm gone, I still want you to pursue your dreams and live on without me, although you probably already are.

“Dont be silly Y/n…i can't without you here..” Rin softly murmured, his vision getting blurry from all the tears. Yet, he still continued to read.

‘Oh, and before this note ends I want to tell you one last thing.

Rin, I love you. I always have as a matter of fact.

And no, its not in a friendship way but more of a romantic way.

You see Rin, ever since we were little I always had a little crush on you. But I mean who wouldn't?! You were so cute back then! And now your even more cuter! Handsome too!

Soon, that ‘little crush’ developed into love.

I never told you because I never wanted to ruin the friendship we had although its already kinda ruined already.

And even if you ever did feel the same way, (which I kinda doubt but who knows?!) I'm sorry that you had to find out this way.

Maybe in another life we could be happy together without my stupid condition. Romantically or not.

And in that next life, if it is romantically, I hope we could strive together and have a future with the two of us in it, with me actually confessing to you in person.

But if its in a friendship way, I hope we can still stick together like back then.

But right now, in this lifetime, it seems as if it can't be either of those two.

Promise me one thing though Rin, please take care of yourself.

He felt like he couldn't breathe.

His hand started shaking violently as he dropped the phone onto the bed.

His sobs became louder and louder as seconds passed by.

“Y/n…” he choked out as he began to tug on his hair.

The pain in his heart was insufferable.

He's never broken down like this ever since the Sae incident.

But this…this was definitely worse than the day Sae neglected him.

It was about you, and you were gone. Long gone.

He couldn't help but let out a frustrated scream as he threw his clutter across the room.

His crying escalated into a full breakdown as all he could think about in the moment was how much he regretted his actions.

He's never hated himself as much as right now.

Would all of this have been different if he never pushed you away?

Well, no, of course not. It's not like he can change your heart condition, but he could have at least provided you with support.

He could have at least let you rest peacefully, with you knowing that he still cared for you.

But you probably thought that he hated you.

And he hated the idea of that.

The idea of you passing with the belief of him hating you made him feel such overwhelming and intolerable guilt.

With fists clenched together so tightly, his nails pierced through his palm as his knuckles turned pure white.

He let out a frustrated cry as he punched his wall.

This was his breaking point.

He slumped against the wall, pulling his legs to his chest and burying his face in his arms, overcome with violent sobs.

“I love you too Y/n…” he whispered.

Days have passed and Rin hasn't been able to get much sleep.

It was noticeable too.

Rin had heavy eyebags as he wasn't speaking as much.

Every day, he would always lock himself in his room.

He would lie down on his bed, feeling numb as he blamed himself for all that's happened.

Some nights, he would curl up into a ball on his bed and cry all night.

He would cry himself to sleep.

Your missing presence really affected him.

…

Today, he had planned to visit the graveyard, as he did almost every day when he had the time.

Arriving at your tombstone, he fell to his knees, tears welling up in his eyes once again.

“Y/n…I really can't do this without you.” he mumbled as replaced the old flowers with new ones.

Every day, Rin would always be the one to look after your tombstone.

On rainy days, he would place a small umbrella over your gravestone to prevent mold from growing on it.

And every time the flowers were wilting away, he would always be the one to replace them with your favorite flowers.

“Y/n…I don't know what to do without you. I need you here with me…”

Rin bit his lower lip as he tried to compress a sob.

“I miss you…I miss you so much it hurts.” Rin muttered as he wiped his tears away with his sleeve.

Although it was pointless, his tears just kept flowing.

“Fuck this…I can't do this anymore.” Rin grumbled as he gripped the hem of his shirt tightly.

“Y/n…Y/n come back to me…please!” Rin sobbed as he slammed his fists onto the ground.

“Tell me this is all just one big joke Y/n! Tell me your not really gone!”

Of course, he knew all too well that this wasn't a joke.

It was real life.

You were really gone.

Rin hunched over as he began to cry into his palms.

“I love you Y/n…I wish I could've told you too…”

I saw some videos on tiktok about someone with POTS and she would just faint randomly and the people in the video would catch her and I can totally imagine that with the Recoms. (I am aware that being chronically sleepy and having POTS is very different but just go along with it)

Imagine you’re cleaning your weapon along with the rest of the squad and suddenly you’re so sleepy and you just start to nodding off and whoever is next to you notices and quickly catches you so you don’t hurt yourself.

Ofcourse they’d be alarmed when your head suddenly drops, but they quickly realise that you’ve fallen asleep.

Some of them, (Quaritch, Mansk, Lopez and possibly Z-dog and Walker) grumble about it, but they’d be the first to join you.

When you fall asleep in your bed (or someone else's, it’s all the same to you) or on the couch, it's only a matter of time before you wake up because there is some kind of struggle going on between the guys which one of them gets to cuddle with you. Once they’ve finally decided, Walker and Z-dog are already on either side of you. Que the pouting and puppy eyes.

Quaritch tries to order them away (like he often likes to pull rank, even in your relationship), so another argument ensues about keeping your work relationship and romantic relationship separate.

2024 SiWC Panel with Diana Gabaldon

Greetings Outlander fans! My, I have missed you all… 🤗

This weekend I find myself in beautiful Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, attending the Surrey International Writers’ Conference, more commonly known as SiWC!

I drove from Oregon to Canada lastThursday. It was a beautiful day but the normally 5.5 hr drive turned into nearly 7 hours due to two collisions in Washington state. Yes, it was an inconvenience for those on the freeway, but I was grateful to arrive safely and I hope those involved in the crashes are OK.

Thus far, I have attended several events featuring Diana – she is one busy lass! All were delightful and I will share them with you, but not in chronological order mostly due to the technical issues of posting via iPad. 😉

Today’s event was titled “Compelling Expositions,” a panel featuring Diana Gabaldon, Michael Slade, Robyn Harding, and Darren Groth (not shown). K. C. Dyer moderated (also not shown).

Diana looked stunning, layered with in a deep red shawl because the room was freezing! 🥶

Many fruitful topics were covered by the panel. Here are some highlights including Diana’s responses:

Question: Which is your fav scene from your writings? Diana chose the scene from “Outlander” book wherein Jamie rescues Claire from Black Jack Randall’s clutches. They shelter at a tavern – Jamie tells Claire he is not ready for bed and proceeds to whip her with his sword belt. This set up a major clash between the two characters because each POV was justified from their perspective. Claire was trying to find a way back to Frank but Jamie knew her actions put all of their lives in danger. I must confess, this choice surprised me. I suppose because Diana has written so many splendid scenes. How would one even choose? 🤔

This is wee bit of the excerpt from the scene (pp. 249-250 “Outlander” Kindle version) that is Diana’s fav!

“Come to bed, Jamie. What are you waiting for?”

He came to stand by the bed, swinging the belt gently back and forth.

“Well, lass, I’m afraid we’ve a matter still to settle between us before we sleep tonight.” I felt a sudden stab of apprehension.

“What is it?” He didn’t answer at once. Deliberately not sitting down on the bed by me, he pulled up a stool and sat facing me instead.… 😯

Question: How do you deal with pacing? Diana responded that pacing depends on context. For example, if there is an emergency then the writer wants to keep sentences short and terse. Pacing allows the author to create tension between two elements. A question is raised and then answered to move the story forward. (Psst…. She didn’t mention that sometimes the answers to questions she raises don’t get resolved until two books and ten years later!) 😂

Question: How do you deal with slang or dialect? Diana feels dialogue is the most important way to define a character. An author using another language (e.g. Gaelic) needs to educate themself in the language. She watched films with Scottish characters to hear their spoken English. At conferences, if she heard anyone speaking with a Scottish accent, she invited them for coffee and listened to them speak. Diana also recommended reading books written by someone who speaks the language. She read several Scottish authors to help her get a feel for syntax, cadence, etc. Frankly, her devotion to her craft is a splendid example to all aspiring authors. 🥰

Question: Do you plan out a chapter or scene ahead of time? Diana does not. We already know she doesn’t write in a straight line. She also does not tell her characters what to say or do. She waits patiently for them to speak to her. This being my fourth SiWC, I can tell you hers is a unique approach. Most writers I encounter plan out scenes, many even work from a classic outline. She also doesn’t know ahead of time how a book will end. I guess the one exception here is that she seems to know how the “Outlander” books will end. Sob! 😢

Question: Who is your favorite author. James Clavell, she answered without a moment’s hesitation. Clavell authored the marvelous, “Shogun,” for those who might not know. Although it has been some time since I read it, it is well worth doing so. 👍🏻

Aiden was crushed

Tyler was impaled

Ashlyn had a concussion

Logan ended up with a big cut on his side

Do you think something worse could happen to Taylor and Ben?

I think eventually all of them will face some sort of serious injury, so I highly doubt Ben and Taylor will be safe. I think ashlyn and Logan will also get more deadly wounds soon (hope Logan is first in line 🙏)

But I do find it interesting that they are the only two unharmed. Especially since they had a mini romance going on in S1. awwww I miss them 😢

Whats also interesting is how impulsive, destructive, and agressive Taylor has been lately as well as her increased screentime 😈

We’ve also unfortunately seen Logan get a lot of panels lately as well. And idk if u guys remember S1 but Tyler, ashlyn, and Aiden were the ones who got a lot of attention. But now that Tyler and Aiden are out , the attention has shifted to Taylor and Logan. But not Ben!!!!! (I want more Ben screentime, fuck Logan no body gaf what’s going on with him 😒 tell me ab Benny boy NOOOWWWW!!!!!!)

my point is Taylor or Logan may be the next to experience a major event. They’ve also been the ones exhibiting the most “phantom traits” , MOSTLY Taylor tho. also there’s a few other things that point to Taylor being in harms way very soon.

but basically the signs are telling me Taylor is gonna go through smth much worse than what’s happening rn. Back to Taylor and Ben’s relationship tho. Ben always tries to give back to things that treat him well, idrk how to word it. In S1 Taylor is very considerate of the whole group, but there are a few instances where she focuses on him.

in S2, ben mirrors this act by physically protecting her and attempting to comfort her to the best of his abilities

taylor leans into this comfort and support, even if it’s only by a little. taylor needs people, and ben can easily become her person. they both value their family and friends a lot and are willing to put their lives on the line/distance themselves if it means protecting them. they both have lost someone who has guided them out of a dark time in their life to the phantom dimension. they both are kind hearted people who are gentle. they are both a pea to someone’s pod (Aiden and Ben, Taylor and Tyler). they understand each other better than anyone else.

Ben cares about Taylor a lot. we don’t get scenes of them like we do with aidlyn anymore, but we do get little snippets. he is willing to protect her , even if it puts himself at risk. HE COVERED HER COMPLETELY WITH HIMSELF!!! HE DIDNT EVEN COVER HIS HEAD OR ANYTHINGG IGHWHEHA!!??? He had been holding her in place ever since the phantom had started chasing them. HE CARES SM IT HURTS ME.

ben has been such a neglected character, but I don’t think this was for no reason. I believe Ben’s time will come. I was honestly expecting a reaction out of him when Aiden ‘died’ but we got aidlyn so idrc 😈🙏. anyways a lot of people want to see Ben tweak AND I DO TOO!!! but you also have to remember, him not getting mad and bearing with the situation shows how much he has grown from his past. Ben has intense anger issues that he’s HEAVILY ashamed of. keeping himself in check is already hard enough with day to day triggers, but add his new phantom situation onto that? mans is STRUGGLING, but since it’s in silence no one ever talks ab it 🙁 we’ve seen Tyler crack under this pressure, Logan getting madder, and taylor has gotten angrier too! ashlyn is more stressed and tired than angry, and Aiden is having fun most of the time. but Ben? he’s been trying his absolute hardest to not flip out.

so that combined with his affection for tay, if something bad really does happen to her, I do believe it will be his final straw. There’s only so much self control a 14 year old has (even though most adults would’ve went insane by now). Whether Taylor turns into a phantom or she gets injuries/dies, it will hit Ben HARD. Tyler will also be affected, but I really hope it doesn’t overshadow Ben. Losing Taylor would mean Ben wasn’t able to protect her like he wanted to and after Aiden also got hurt, I don’t think he would be able to take it. I think it’ll also extremely upset him when he finds out his family got caught in the crossfire of the kidnapping.

I was thinking about it, and we might actually see ben use his voice out of desperation. I really hope we don’t, bc I think ben not being verbal is nice representation, it’s so important to his character, and I love seeing how ben expresses himself without words. but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he used it to call out to someone. The way this scene (⬇️⬇️) is worded is like, “he CAN (might even) talk, he just doesn’t WANT (have a reason) too”. i really hope he doesn’t, but it’s definitely a possibility 😢 especially if we get a ben centered arc that’s caused by his anger and the loss he’s experienced.

All in all, I don’t think Ben be the next one to be injuried really, but I do think Taylor will. And Taylor getting hurt will finally open up a arc centered around/that includes ben 🙏

Hello again! I just love the last fic you did for my request and couldnt stop thinking about it so I had a wonderfully angsty idea and thought I should share lol

so today is my birthday 🎊🎉🙌

and it got me thinking about an angsty phantom fic (I love torturing this boy and my self as well 😢) what if the ghouls held birthdays like summoning days or something and phantom previously witnessed everyone throw Aurora a huge party and when his birthday rolls around and nothing happens he thinks they all know it's his birthday but since he's like a replacement he's not worth celebrating he gets all in his head during the day and messes up during practice anf gets yelled at by dew and judged by the othees so he spends his birthday night silently singing happy birthday to himself

(If you wanted to do a longer story or a part to you could have like aether call and ask how phantoms birthday go and everyone's like birthday "What birthday? And they realize that they had forgotten his birthday and yelled and pressured him on his b-day, and they all make it up to him) just another idea I love your writing style! ❤️

“Happy birthday..”

Aurora’s summoning day was merely a day or two ago, the pack had thrown a huge party for the girl, filled with treats and laughter, happiness and joy. Phantom enjoyed celebrating his friends 2nd birthday, aside from her real one. He wondered what everyone would do for his birthday…which just so happened to be today!

Phantom was very excited, it was his summoning day, and him still being new to topside, and slightly naive and innocent…was kept wondering what his pack would do for him. And how fun and exciting it would be. His tail swayed behind him excitedly as he stretched, getting changed into his given uniform before walking into the bus’s common room, where Rain and Swiss were.

“Goodmorning!!” Phantom chirped happily, “..morning, what’s got you so excited for?” Rain asked confused. Phantom tilted his head confused. “Do you guys know what day it is?” He asks, Swiss shrugs and says “it’s Thursday.” Causing Phantoms ears to droop. “Oh” he mutters, walking away. He walked to Aurora’s room, the two were close given they were summoned merely days apart. He knocked on her door, eagerly waiting her reply. She would know what day it is! She’s got to have something planned for him. He just knows it. Her door unlocks and she peeks out from behind the door tiredly.

“Goodmorning Phantom…uh, did you need something..?” She asks, very confused. Phantom’s poor ears droop even more. “Oh, Uhm..nevermind..” He says, Aurora only nods before giving a small smile and closing her door again. Phantom walks back to his room, slightly upset. Maybe they were gonna throw a surprise party??? Yea. That’s what they’d do.

Band practice came around quickly, for the upcoming ritual they had tonight. He walked off the bus, seeming to be the last and walked into the venue. Searching for where everyone was, quickly finding them by their loudness and foolish behavior, like a bunch of cats. “Ah, Phantom it’s about time you showed up, yes?” Copia asked, announcing his arrival so they can start practice and soundcheck. Phantom merely nods before getting into position.

Phantoms thoughts began to spiral, he wondered. They must’ve known it was his birthday, right? The day he was summoned, everyone knows when the packmates are summoned, their all there to witness it. So how come they aren’t celebrating or wishing him a happy birthday..? Was it just because he’s a replacement? But, Aurora’s one too…so why did they celebrate hers but not his..? Was he not good enough? Did they just not care? Tears began to well in his eyes underneath of his mask, but he quickly shook off his tears, making a few mistake in the process causing the song to stop.

“For fucks sake Phantom get it together! What the hell is wrong with you? You were perfectly fine yesterday and now you can’t find the right chords??” Dewdrop yells, and the others simply look at him with disappointed faces from beneath their masks.

“I-I’m sorry I— I didn’t mean to-” phantom tries to say, “fucking save it and fix your shit.” Dew snaps. Causing phantom to quietly whimper. Did they really just…not care about him at all??..he sighed. Fixing his grip on the guitar and getting through the rest of practice.

The day went on like normal, no celebrations, no happy birthdays..nothing. Although Papa had called him over, pat him on the shoulder and said “it is your birthday, yes? Cheer up and have a happy day.” Which made phantom feel just slightly better about the day.

He still had hope that the pack would do something for his birthday, anything at all it didn’t have to be big. The Ritual had come, and it went on well, although Phantom was lacking his usual energetic kitten energy, seeming tired and just not his usual self, earning glares from the other ghouls. It hurt, they really didn’t care about him, not a single bit. He thought they did, they were so nice to him. What did he do wrong to make them all hate him so suddenly…? Judge him and yell at him, and not celebrate his birthday..?

Soon enough nightfall came, Phantom ignored any after ritual games or chatter and went straight to his room, taking off his uniform and mask and changing into comfier clothes. He was so upset, so abandoned. Why was he here? What was he even here for..? Phantom sighed, looking at the clock. “11:33PM” the exact time he was summoned a year ago. Tears welled up in his eyes as he grabbed a large cookie from his bedside and a stick, using a lighter to light the stick, and place the cookie on the floor.

“Happy birthday..to me…h-…happy birthday…to me…” phantom sings to himself with a cracked voice, trying not to cry. “Happy- birthday..dear phantom…happy- birthday..to me..” phantom cries softly and quietly as he blew the fire off of the stick, and ate the cookie softly through choked silent sobs. His tail curled around his waist. Why did they hate him? What did he do so wrong?? Why were they having fun doing other things and not celebrating his birthday..? He shook his head, he was just a replacement. So what was there to celebrate at all..? Phantom cried himself to sleep, instead of enjoying his birthday like he should’ve.

The next morning, Phantom stayed in his room. The pack members were all gathered in the bus common area talking with Aether on his daily face call. “So, how was the birthday?” He asks suddenly. The pack looked confused. “The birthday?? Aurora’s birthday was fine, she loved it. Why?” Cirrus asks. Aether furrows his brows through the face camera. “No, not Aurora’s. Phantoms. How was phantoms birthday?” Aether asks again, being more specific. “Phantoms…birthday? What do you mean…?” Rain asks confused.

Aether’s face drops through the screen, before yelling. “You forgot his birthday?! You didn’t- you didn’t do anything for him? At all?! His birthday was yesterday!!” He yells through the phone. And the packs faces all pale. “…we yelled at and judged him— on his birthday…? We forgot his birthday…?” Swiss asks, mainly to himself. “Oh Satan, you forgot the poor boys birthday…” Aether sighs. “Listen…you better make it up to him. Because knowing him he’s probably overthinking everything, thinking you all hate him. Make it up to him or your all getting an earful when you get back from tour.” Aether says sternly. Ending the call.

The pack looks at eachother, nodding. Simply coming up with an idea in merely seconds. It was a travel day, so they didn’t have to leave the bus. They had some left over decorations from Aurora’s party. And since the Ghoul’s always get presents for their packmates ahead of time, they already had gifts for phantom. Dew decided he’d be the one to collect phantom from his room after everything was set up. And so the ghoul’s quickly got to work. And within half an hour, a perfect party set up was done.

Dewdrop walked to Phantom’s bunk room, knocking softly on the door. “Hey, Babybat are you in there?” He asked softly. He heard a soft groan in response, not an ‘im just waking up’ groan, but a ‘why are you here..?’ Groan. Dewdrop carefully opened the door and walked into Phantoms bunk, phantom sat there fiddling with the spade of his tail, looking up and making eye contact. “Hm..?” Phantom hummed in question.

“Come here real quick bug, I’ve got something for you.” Dew said Phantom cautiously and limply got up, and followed Dew. “Close your eyes bug” Dewdrop said to him, and Phantom did as he was told. And when Dew told him to open his eyes, his eyes immediately sparkled with hope and happiness.

“Happy birthday Phantom!!!”
