Here’s my feelings about Cale’s hit on Jared McCan as an Avs fan and someone who loves Cale Makar a lot: it was late and inappropriate. I cringe every time I see the clip because it’s just brutal (especially seeing a clearly hurt player 😵‍💫 makes me feel sick). It was late and unwarranted, even if Cale did so under the assumption McCan has the puck, he hits numbers. I don’t know if I’m crazy but I swear there’s like a saying in hockey where if you see the numbers you don’t hit them because this is what happens. I’m kind of shocked that the penalty was a minor (2 minutes) instead of a major (5 minutes), because I think a major was more fitting tbh. I think Cale is having a hearing with the DoPS today so we’ll see what discipline they hand out and I think I will be OK with most of the outcomes. Even a suspension. It’s bad conduct and should be discouraged in every way. It would be unfortunate to lose one of our best players for the upcoming game or remainder of the series, but that looks like the scenario for the Kraken themselves. It’s just a horrible and unfortunate situation.
