okay, so i had to do a shit ton of research for this because (surprise) the wiki was wrong/confusing.
but anyways, in my opinion, ada is much more morally aligned with our other protagonists than she is unaligned. so like in re2, sure, she was hired by her organization to retrieve the g-virus. in leon B (the canon one), she has the virus because there's a sample of it in sherry's pendant which she keeps throughout the game. weirdly enough, in the (apparently) canon sequel "death's door," instead of having sherry's pendant, she has a tissue sample from birkin which she then hands over to wesker. in the original game we never see what came of the g-virus and theres no mention or implication of wesker being involved
[important to note that UC came out after re4 and re2, and its super unclear when wesker joined the organization ada works for so i have my reservations about saying that ada's original goal in the original game was to give the g-virus to wesker because the only source for that is the umbrella chronicles, but whatever]
then in re4 she "works" for wesker and "with" krauser but her original organization takes precedence and she kills krauser and keeps the dominant plaga slample fot her organization and sends wesker a smaller, less powerful sample. hell, even in the remake capcom changes this in ada's favor because she doesn't even give him anything.
in re6 her purpose is to basically stop carla and simmons. stopping a man from committing literal global bioterrorism and a woman who had been impersonating her for 6 months. she helps leon and helena with deborah as well as simmons at the end and she saves jake and sherry.
like idk, i don't like calling ada a "morally grey" character because i don't think she's ever worked against the other main protagonists. she works for herself and even if it's not always for the protagonists, it's certainly not against them. the only time i can see that is in re4 og but i feel like wesker would get the plaga sample either way (as seen in remake separate ways). i think an anti-hero works better for ada cause like i think you can certainly question her motives and alliances but i think that in the end she does more things in line with our other protagonists than not.
tbh i consider ada more of an anti hero than a morally grey character
#resizura rants#rambling i forgot about this lmao#honestly maybe anti-hero isnt 100% correct either#but i think its more accurate than morally grey#like idk when i think of morally grey characters i think of like walter white or even batman#like people who do bad things out of selfishness/pride#and maybe some good things due to them wanting to still be seen as good people#i think ada just works with sketchy orgs (who she later betrays mind you)#and is sometimes mean to leon#so people are like 'ah! she's a morally grey character!'
