F and i for the fanfic ask thing 💕?
Fanfic Ask Game!!
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
I mean, besides from cheesy romance things, I can’t really think of anything specific. But maybe that counts as guilty pleasure? It seems like a lot of people enjoy a bit more balance than the extreme fluff that I’m down for.
I dunno, you will rarely find a day where I am not in the mood for soft, cheesy fluff. I feel like for some people they have to be actually in the mood for fluff, but that’s my default (clearly). On the flip side, I have to be specifically in the mood for angst....especially heavy angst and I rarely would even read angst that doesn’t have some comforty/fluffy bandaid resolution.
F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
Okay, I’m not going to necessarily say that this is my FAVORITE but it has been on my mind a lot as I was finishing those happily ever after prompts....
So I have a whole series of Rayllum in Katolis fluff that I started before TTM came out...one of the fics I actually still really like from that continuity is Moonberry Mess even tho it was one of the first few things I wrote. Snippet from Ch.3 under the cut, in which we all see that I have always been soft for rayllum fairy tale things
"Are you even looking?"
“What?” She said, pulled out of her reverie. “Oh, no. Not really. Sorry. What’s it about?” He raised the book again.
”The girl is mistreated by her family but then she gets to go to a ball and she meets Prince Charming.” She enjoyed feeling the vibration of his voice in his chest where she laid.
”Is that his name?” Rayla scoffed. She couldn't help the incredulous smile. None of these fairytales had been familiar at all to her so far, each more ridiculous than the last.
”...no comment," he said. He drew out the next word. "Anyway, they fall in love—of course—but she has to leave at midnight, otherwise her carriage will turn back into a pumpkin—“
”What?” She asked, sitting up slightly to look at him quizzically, half-expecting him to be joking. She found his expression perfectly serious.
”A pumpkin? You know, orange, round..ish,“ he explained with infuriating patience.
”No, dummy, I know what pumpkin is. Why would her carriage turn into one?”
”Magic.” He raised both hands to wiggle his fingers in the air. She rolled her eyes, but a smile crept across her lips.
”That’s the stupidest magic that I’ve ever heard of.” She set her head back down against him. “What other stupid shit do humans use magic for?”
”Oh man, just because you said that, I’m going to figure out how to do that. I’m going to learn the Earth arcanum just to make a carriage out of a pumpkin.” Callum closed the book and laid it to the side, then clasped his arms around her.
”Why was the carriage a pumpkin in the first place?!”
”Oh, yeah. I guess I forgot to mention. She has a fairy godmother who makes it so she can go to the ball. So she turns a pumpkin into a carriage.”
”See, that’s a pretty important detail to leave out.” She poked him in the side and he jumped a little.
"Hey!" He exclaimed. "There's more."
"Go on."
"So, she leaves a shoe behind on the steps when she leaves to catch her pumpkin." She glanced up, hearing the humor in his voice, to reward him with another eye roll. "So he takes it door to door and gets every girl in the kingdom to try the shoe on, but it only fits her! So they live happily ever after."
"...it wouldn't fit anyone else? In the entire kingdom? And why wouldn't he just, I don't know, look at her face?" She was practically ranting, having sat up completely now. She curled her legs up, hugging her knees to her.
"...romance," he said with the same wiggly-fingered gesture from before.
"That's...ridiculous. It's no wonder I haven't heard that story before. Probably because elves realized how stupid it was."
"Aw, come on! It's kind of nice, isn't it? True love, and all that?" He shrugged as he defended the story.
"Yeah, okay, Prince Charming," she laughed, teasing him, "Can't remember what she looks like, but no, yeah. True love. For sure."
"I mean, not as true as our love, of course," he said, affecting a dramatic tone.
"Well, I do hope that you at least know what I look like," she smirked. "Come here and kiss me, you big, dumb human."
