correction!

the flamingos are now put up by the university itself for every $50 donated during the major alumni donation drive. during that time, flamingo security guards are hired - and their shirts do indeed say that title. the student body has a tradition of stealing as many as possible as a badge of honor, and running from the security. the security, I should note, have a history of tackling people on this really fucking steep hill.

when I was a freshman there, I once witnessed a dude carrying 4 flamingos sprint past me, screaming "MOVE OH MY GOD I'M SORRRYYYYYYYY"... making it all the way down the steepest segment to his dorm, somehow without falling. he proudly informed me after recovering his breath that he had 6 more in his room, no idea what to do with them, and had no intention of stopping soon.

#honestly flamingo season is fucking excellent #the administration pretends (?) to fucking hate everything about students stealing them #but it's literally the funniest time to have classes around bascom hill #and note that when i say shit is steep #i mean at my most physically active i could not climb that fucker from the front facing side without taking a breather #i really hope that tradition survived covid and the major construction they did #also the campus-run convenience stores for dorm students are named Flamingo Run #you'll never guess why lmao #not described #also the flamingo security is fucking terrifying. i was straight up convinced they paid the student athletes to do it
