I hope I’m just late to the game on this. But does anyone else think that Tsar Alexander I and Napoleon Bonaparte would have made a fantastic (albeit tragic) gay ship or have I just completely lost my mind.
I mean look at this.
The very first thing Alexander said to Napoleon was probably well-calibrated: “I hate the English as much as you do”. Their meeting lasted two hours. Despite waging wars against each other the two Emperors were very much impressed and fascinated by one another. “Never,” said Alexander afterward, “did I love any man as I loved that man.”
And this.
Napoleon was charmed by Alexander, describing him as “especially handsome, like a hero with all the graces of an amiable Parisian.”
And wow.
“If Alexander were a woman,” Napoleon wrote to Josephine, “I would make him my mistress.”
There’s even fanart of them from the 1800′s.

This complicated historic bromance has Enemies-to-Lovers-to-Enemies written all over it.

talking about mounting transphobia and its horrors and the advancing danger is important but also i just had to read "britain is the most transphobic place on earth bar the usa and orban's hungary" and i need people to realize that all gender transition is flat out criminalized in a number of places, and so is "crossdressing" in many others. and that the rising tide of transphobia is worldwide, not just in the two anglophone superpowers and the regime that strongly inspires their reactionary leaders

Whenever I see some statement about a hypothetical male (usually male character? I guess?) on this site I do a 'vibe check' of the post by replacing the gender on female and see if it still works. So like, if someone posted something sexual but kinda humiliating about a 'him' I try to imagine the same post about 'her' and if it is still a fair statement - it is an okay post! But if it suddenly became creepy after this change, I figure that I should not find it funny for a 'him' either and condemn the original post! Or if someone is gloating about how good it is that artists are ""fixing"" a canonically ugly male character, I try to imagine this statement about a female character... and, naturally, that leads to condemning the approach no matter what.
I honestly find it helpful, it is like keeping mind in shape against double standards! It is just kinda an easy trap in online spaces, where people will write and write about how "creepy" and "disrespectful" users can be towards fictional women, only to turn around and show the same attitude (often even worse) towards men. It is just... wrong. If someone wants to make a point about how certain feelings or statements are inherently vile, it should be applied to every person (well, character xd) equally, without distinction by gender! Like- if you can't "disrespect" a woman, you should not disrespect a man either. If you want to grossly objectify that male character, be okay if someone does the same with a female one! Like, whaaaaat, you think women are not important enough for their ""bad"" feelings, actions and words to 'count' as such? :p (I jest because sure they're only "bad" in very narrow near-puritan vision of how fandomry is done, but you see the point about how hypocritical this is!)

So time to tell a tale of a few years back
One of the legislators in my assembly who defended the implementation of the anti-LBGT law had this argument, and that's his words, that he was concerned that children were gonna be led to believe that Only Homosexuals Experience True Feelings
Idk man sounds kinda fruity to me ծ_Ô

I'm gonna talk about gay shit
Tumblr media
*cracks knuckles*
So picture this.
Tumblr media
Moscow, Russia. The end of the 90s/beginning of the 2000s. Two 40 years old friends live together in an apartment. They're childhood friends and are domestic as fuck together.
Tumblr media
The first thing they do in the story is save and adopt a dog together. They don't have girlfriends. They feel awkward in social situations. They take care not to wake up each other. They support each other. A female friend of one of the guys complains that she feels like he only calls her to talk about his roommate.
Tumblr media
THERE'S A MOMENT WHERE THE TWO GUYS HOLD HANDS TOGETHER IN THE DARK BECAUSE THEY'RE STRESSED. THE LANDLORD TARGETS THEM SPECIFICALLY. THEY WATCH OVER THE NEIGHBORS'S KIDS TOGETHER.
Tumblr media
that's not mentioning the melancholic atmosphere that SURELY, *SOME* people might relate to in these circumstances
anyway at the end they manage not to be evicted, the end!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
Tumblr media
I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe for ONE SECOND that I'd been bamboozled so hard. Was I seeing gay stuff everywhere? Did my feelings come from pure naïveté?
BUT THEN I STUMBLED UPON THE DEV'S SOCIAL ACCOUNTS, AND WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the gay [sub]text WAS VERY MUCH INTENTIONAL and I feel...

Reviews of this game: "It's a story about friendship"
THOSE TWO GUYS ARE GONNA FUCK AND WE ALL KNOW IT, KAREN!!!

anti-lgbtq+ laws in russia
recently in russia, putin has signed off on a law to basically stop the distribution of LGBTQ+ “propaganda” to “protect” children. gender reassignment has also been outlawed recently by the Russian Duma. all of this goes to show how homophobic russia is, & how theyre trying to show that only heterosexual relationships are “normal”. how sad.

Николай Павинновио.
Nikolai Pavinnovio.
24 Годы (Anos).
Мужской род (Masculino).
гомосексуал (Homossexual).
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Никита Поляков.
Nikita Polyakov.
25 Годы (Anos).
Мужской род (Masculino).
гомосексуал (Homossexual).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
₊ 𝆤𝆣🔍
Роман Партизан.
Roman Partizan.
28 Годы (Anos).
Мужской род (Masculino).
Бисексуал (Bissexual).
Tumblr media Tumblr media

it was kinda hard making a cohesive thought at 4AM when i answered this but since it's one of my most-liked asks (possibly due to the. somewhat amusing content of the question) (this is not a diss, i'm very glad this is a website where (visibly[?])trans headcanons are accepted and loved but like. it hasn't always been that way + it's not like that everywhere + plenty of people even on here don't see [character] in the same way as you do. and thank god. diversity is tha spice of life babyyyy) it's easier for me to have #thoughts now that i'm actually rested
max put it beautifully (and in ways which ?possibly? matter more to him than they do me) with "in my head your guys are jpgs before they even have gender" & "it's like asking why a piece of jewelry or a road is cisgender".
like when i draw and when i write i think this guy [gestures as widely as a can 1) so you don't know who i'm talking about 😏 2) because. um. where is he] can walk through walls. like physically, in the flesh, matter melding and melting and wreathing together, he comes to the wall one and exits another, unchanged yet fundamentally different, ship-of-theseus'ing himself into a new existence through matter. if you think i make a conscious effort to depict [using him as an example] him as cisgender... or as [particular]gender frankly... you've lost the plot. /lovingly by all means. i understand that if gender is very important to you, you are used to (/maybe expect?) it being important for others too, and that being a big, conscious/salient/visible part of one's writing and drawing œuvre in the same way it is for you. but in a gorgeous and beautiful turn of events, people are fundamentally different from one another, even if we are all so alike. and i cannot begin to put into words how Not interested i am in digging into characters' genders consciously, visibly, saliently, with words/concepts that are easy for you to fit into a "cisgender" or "transgender(-in-a-specific-way)" box. i got a whole lot other typa shit going on 💯 (<- in the pain of the poet)
tldr you can never know if a character i draw is cis! you're free to assume so, as out of everything one can assume about my art, characters being assumed cisgender is not particularly insulting to me. you'll never know because i'm keeping the gender thoughts to myself cos i have my own #thang to do 😏 and it involves researching greek pre-writing-tradition poetry to get a feel of the metrics. which will likely never make it into any fic of mine because i'll give up but i'm having fun. #KEEPWONDERIN #WOULDNTYOULIKETOKNOWWEATHERBOY
i'm genuinely curious, is there a reason you draw most of your characters as cisgender?
confounded by this question because i don't draw a lot of "my" characters. my OCs tag is giving abandoned mall. if you mean characters i draw in general: how/why do you assume them cis? a character being depicted as amab¹ + masculine or afab¹ + feminine (& that's pushing it. i barely draw feminine characters in general lol) does not make them cis. i don't write about gender (characters' or mine frankly) much because i have Way More Other Things That I Consider Vastly More Interesting to spend my time writing about quite frankly, but you cannae know that. this is an assumption you are making. whatever this assumption internally comes from... not my business i don't live inside of your skull. what i'm doing is #mythang in ways i think makes sense for the themes, the motifs, their backstories, for the way i think they interact between each other, with the sort of baggage i read/can read into a narrative. in medias that have interpretations/perspectives as a central theme, people are bound to draw/interpret characters differently. fandoms are wider than you think they are, and there are as many people who draw characters as trans(-in-a-specific-way) as they are who draw them as cis (or trans-in-a-diiferent-way). you might live in a bubble where everyone draws a character as trans(-in-a-specific-way) (and chances are if we share a fandom i am in this bubble too!), which is not a bad thing, but it might not be my experience. or anyone else's. above it all. i'm doing my thang. and you do yours. 💯☮️🕊️
¹ i'm very much aware this is not The Ideal terminology to use but for the sake of simplicity & because i'm assuming this is what you are basing yourself on visually this is the most easily-understood way i can phrase it

Pre-WW2 Russian Lesbian Fashion Goes Really Hard
"They dressed very simply, and almost alike, always wearing severe, almost masculine attire consisting of jackets and skirts with hems below the knees. Both of them wore shirts and ties. Their shoes were invariably the same style of brown, low-heeled oxford."
-- Homosexual Desire in Revolutionary Russia
---
I’m just saying but I kinda love the sound of this, except for the tie. I don’t do ties. Maybe I’d have the skirt hem right at the knees if there were leggings to go with it, but otherwise this goes hard.
