Just saw someone on homestuck twt say Equius is a zoophile and I’m ripping my hair out viscerally

I guess it’s the musclebeast artwork where they got that from, but there is no sexual attraction there. Equius just is sweaty and autistic and weird. It’s purely seen by indigos as fine art (it’s pretty stressed actually) and it’s just another part of Alternia being weird. It’s like Greek statues to them, which also features naked people with what culturally for that time considered beautiful features and body types (they still are beautiful). That’s the equivalent. Do people really lack media literacy this much?

This just in! You aren’t allowed to make up fictional characters who’s opinions go against you own!

But fr, apply this logic to people who write about horror. Or really, anyone who’s ever made an antagonist/villain character. “Oh but they are the bad guy, so the story portrays their ideas as being bad! That makes it ok!”. That’s so stupid. Imagine being so puritanical with your beliefs that you don’t write about people who doesn’t represent your ideals. Imagine only writing characters who don’t have opposing views to yours. That would be so boring lol

Tbh I don’t think a lot of these types of people have interacted with other people, like out in the wild. Not every person in the world is going to be “good and pure”. And certainly not everyone will share your exact same views. It’s not weird to express this thing, that’s just a part of life, through fiction.

“Oh but it’s ok to have characters with opposing views, as long as you make sure people know it’s wrong!”. No, nobody needs to do that either. I don’t typically tell someone who doesn’t share my opinions “well that’s wrong and bad” every time I talk to someone. For me, I ignore it and continue to talk to them. If it’s a horrible opinion that really rubs me the wrong way (cough cough nazis), I try to just leave the situation as casually as possible as to not cause a scene or get myself in a dangerous situation. However, there are times where I’ll express to someone with differing views how that’s not my standpoint. This is pretty rare, and usually it’s meant as a talking point for “let’s have a discussion about what we belief in and why” that’s reserved for people I’m generally comfortable with and if they seem like they’d be interested in a discussion like that. There’s not many occasions where I’ve gotten pissed off at people with opposing views to the point where I feel like I need to say something in a pissed off way. When I do, it usually boils down to people who are ok with or agree with racism, antisemitism, animal abuse, child abuse, and similar things. Generally, anyone who is fine with harm or abuse towards innocent people or creatures.

Interacting with people in the wild is called “social skills”. When you have “social skills”, you know when ignoring someone’s opposing view points is appropriate! You also know when it’s appropriate to tell people when you think that their opinion is stupid! “Social skills” also means that you know not to bring stupid online centered discourse into the real world. “You’re biphobic and a terrible person” isn’t something you tell someone you have no relation to so blatantly lol.

It’s fine and normal to have people in the world who don’t agree with you. I’m fact, it’s healthy to have your opinions challenged by the existence of opposing ones. It strengthens your own opinions and it evolves them into different ones. Why is it suddenly wrong for people to write about people with opposing views to their own in fiction? This isn’t even a Hussie thing. I see this everywhere. When you create a character, you’re creating a person. That person has their own opinions and reasons for said opinions. They may not be real people, but a good writer will think “what if this person was real? What do they believe in? How strong is this belief? Why do they believe this?” when they write their character. Because this character is not the writer, and not all fictional characters are self inserts, it’s not outrageous to assume that their fictional character would have different views than what the writer has.

Not all fiction must be reflective of the writers believes. It’s not a rule for fiction. There are no rules to fiction though tbh.

But fr, I really doubt that Hussie is biphobic, considering that he created Homestuck. Like, do y’all know anything about troll society? How trolls reproduce? What their romance looks like? Damn, people just don’t have brains anymore tbh

New discourse in the homestuck fandom, Andrew Hussie made a new game and one of the characters are biphobic and people are saying people should boycott the game because an author should not be allowed to write biphobic characters. (even though said character seems to get called out for said biphobia). Stating that the biphobic character is a reflection of the author's views, which maybe that is true idk because they haven't provided proof that Hussie is biphobic. All this from 1 screen shot of some dialogue from a game that ain't even out yet.

One thing I hate about the homestuck fandom is how many people just didn't read the comic or just glossed over the words and skipped to the pretty pictures.

"I thought Jane and Jake were related? Why are you hippping them?" They are not. They are clones of themselves from an alternate timeline. The only reason for thinking they were related stems from how Grandpa Harley and Nana Egbert were raised together and saw each other as siblings. Two very different scenarios for their upbringing in both the Alpha and Beta timelines. Beta = found family. Alpha = not found family. Either way, they are not related biologically at all.

"Gamzee was evil bc he went sober" No. He was directly mind-controlled by Lil Cal (Caliborn). However, his mind was weakened from not only being sober (addiction sucks ass) but also from having his religion/worldview flipped on its head (Dave showing Gamzee ICP). He was more susceptible to Cal's influence. It's a more "read in between the lines" type of deal, but he did not go around killing people or abusing Terezi simply because he was sober.

"June is canon because I keep seeing people talk about June (as in John transition in the comics)" June is cool, but you can't take Hussie's word as law because he sucks. June could still be canon in Beyone Canon and Pesterquest hints at it (heavily) (yippee). But John still exists and is called John through the (current) whole of Homestuck, the Epilogues, and Beyond Cannon.

"Roxy sexually harassed Dirk and is awful (knows Dirk is gay and saw the one pannnel where Roxy hugged Dirk)" Roxy was alone for most of her life. Hal leads her on because Hal can do whatever the fuck he wants because he's a computer who enjoys chaos. Roxy hugging Dirk (the first real human she's ever seen) is not harassment. She did have romantic feelings toward him, yes. That is not up for debate. But he's still one of the only people in her life she could have formed a bond with at all and didn't pursue him romantically. More just left it alone and talked about her personal struggle.

Profic Party Day 7: A character that you like from media that you aren’t otherwise interested in - Karkat (Homestuck)

This was rough because I usually try to get into anything that catches my eye, so I decided to go with one that I used to be into but not anymore.

Karkat was my fave when I read Homestuck as a teen! I don't have much interest in it now, but this cranky man will be remembered fondly.
