This picture was taken the moment our @homestorytellers team Director met in person our protagonist for the film we are producing at Zaatari Refugee Camp . I am spending 12 days here as the behind the scenes and on-set photograper. As I document behind the scenes, during the making of our short documentary film @1951coffee, the narrative of a refugee changes drastically and I want to share why we, @homestorytellers , are producing this film. We have learned while resettlement in the U.S. sounds like a dream come true, refugees experience major challenges as they transition to their new lives. Through 4 diverse but interconnected stories, this documentary will reveal the challenges of refugee resettlement in the United States and shine a light on how community-driven education and integration can significantly increase the resettlement success. #worldrefugeeday2021 As I capture Asma at a moments gaze, I am awestruck by such beauty, grace, and resilience. Here, Asma is looking out the window from her home in the Zaatari Refugee Camp. There are 25.9 million refugees in the world today and two-thirds live in protracted situations which means they have been in exile for over 5 years living in a constant state of uncertainty waiting for resettlement. Some may wait a lifetime, one never knows. Despite these devastating odds against her, Asma is a remarkable, inspiring, leading young woman today. She is determined to change the future of young girls in her community through the power of books and stories. Asma has already changed the lives of so many and continues to persevere with her brilliant, genuine uplifting voice and outstanding character. Meet Liebe, someone who truly lights up the room! Liebe is one of the protagonist in our new film NO SINGLE ORIGIN. He fled his homeland of Eritrea and was resettled in the Bay Area of California. As a behind the scenes photographer, making yourself disappear is critical, especially while working during the filming of a real time documentary. It’s a challenging and incredible rewarding job when you capture such a genuine, raw and emotional moment such as this one you can see here.
