I’ve finally found a spot for my lovely @lorepemberton and @melissa.castrillon prints on the wall and a place for my little blanket that has a matching red house to Lore‘s illustration. A quick, messy, unedited snapshot of today’s illustration work on my table. I’m working on two picture books in tandem at the moment. Both written by me. One a fiction book that will follow Waiting for Wolf (much slower than expected) and the other non fiction book about forest, woodlands and it’s creatures. I’m trying to do as much as I can in traditional media. I absolutely adore my @wacom for my computer and working on @procreate on my iPad but I think the little mistakes and the lines of water drying on a sheet of paper can not yet be replicated truly by the best programs - Nor does my brain understand shapes and colour the same way on the screen compared to my hand moving paint and pencil on paper actually. That saying I’m finding I much prefer doing my characters digitally, so I’m now at a stage where I’m finding my groove with marrying the two types of working creatively. Still learning and always will be even after nearly ten years working full time as an illustrator. Hopping from being able to sit anywhere in the house working digitally to sitting for hours on my table in my attic studio while enjoying getting my eyes off the screen and real paintbrush and pencil in hand. Variety is the spice of life right! I also spend much of my days running (today falling) down the stairs to see my little one @ronja.reads ...doing occasional snaps of decorating and tidying around our new old @homeintheehills (whenever the time presents), trying not to die of cabin fever, eating too much ( festive chocolate stach is finally gone), feeling guilty about the lack of movement, being too tired and cold to move, not feeling guilty for anything and just being kind to myself and dreaming of days hugging friends and hopping on trains to visit and change the view. Those days will come again I know! Just a restless spirit here. We freshened up our tiny kitchen and it’s made all the difference! 🤍 When we moved in last autumn I had the brilliant idea to paint the lower wall with black chalkboard paint for Roni to go wild on with crayons. Needless to say- baaad idea! It hardly got used and when it did the chalk dust went everywhere. The wall was in a bad state and peeling so I installed @wickes bead board and a dado rail. Took me ages to find a rail with a deep lip to sit flush over the panelling but @cnc_creationsuk had just the one! Gave it all a @lick of paint and voilà here we go. What do you think? Hello! We are back in our @homeintheehills🏡 Five weeks abroad is a looong time to be away when you don’t expect it, but despite all the travel restrictions and paperwork, I’m so glad that we made it to Germany and that I had the time to reconnect with my beautiful home town and friends and family. That I got to release my father into the sea and say my goodbyes. Thank you all so much for your patience with your orders! We have over a hundred to pack and post and are starting today. So hopefully not too long now! 📦✉️ Here are a few shots of the results of my frantic cleaning and rearranging as soon as we got home.
