Here's your excuse to rant about pinescone

Okay-- Okay, this is so ahhh. It's silly but listen!

I was playing Horrified with my family, and I love board games-- so i can totally imagine Dipper and Wirt being into board games-- and Dipper is always pulling out this gameTrying to be all charming and cute and like "Wirttttt- let's play this one" And Wirt usually doesn't mind, but just Dipper being so into this game even though he's probably actually met some of these in real life monsters himself. Though sometimes Wirt fights him on which game to play-- and it's not like in a "No, I'm tired of playing this game Dipper, I wanna play something else" The reason he fights Dipper over this game is because he wants to play this version (the original version)

Because horror movie monsters and book related monsters are Wirt's bread and butter so these two are arguing over which version to play until the next game comes out

And both of them just kind of look at each other like >.> <.< It's the best of both worlds! ....though they do still argue over which version to play sometimes, though if they can't compromise-- Greek Monsters usually is the happy medium and it's a coop game so they're working together and trying different strats, and when they win they get all dorky, and sappy, and mushy (Board games surpisingly bring out a lot of passion)

Anyway, I needed to ramble a little because I have all three games XD

And it's very fun, and this feels so much like Dipper and Wirt's cup of tea and I love the concept of them playing board games together cause you know they do DDMD. Lately, when I've been playing games, I start imagining how Dipper or Wirt would exist in the world-- or what character would they play as-- what weapons/style/class would they pick. Im playing Elden Ring right now with the though of making two separate files that would be based on Wirt and Dipper. Like I just love these two nerds playing games together-- board games or video games. They each have their own favorite genres that the other doesn't like-- but they also do have a lot of similar taste; and sometimes they'll play something their partner really likes because they love their boyfriend and want to make each other happy! They love each other so much! I'm so fucking feral for this goddamn crossover ship--why?! XD

((...That doesn't mean they can't be little shits though.

Lol, imagining Dipper not putting out for Wirt after because they didn't play the one Horrified he wanted to instead, like the little petty bitch he is Wirt: But we won, we always celebrate after a win Dipper: Yeah I know-- I just--- I don't know. I would have felt more excited if we had been stopping Bigfoot-- Wirt is, of course, not going to let his brat get away with this. ))

Anyway, I just-- valentine's day made me want to write more ideas of them playing games together, but I don't know how fun it would be to write characters playing this board/video game in a fic. So to the headcanon pile they go. If I could draw, it probably be easier to draw little sketches of them in the world of the game/their character designs. There are so many dumb little things I think about on a daily with these two.

Super Successful Switch

The ‘Nintendo Switch’ is the seventh major video game console for Nintendo and was released in March the 3rd 2017. In around 9 months the system has sold near 10 million units worldwide, making it one of the most quickly sold consoles of all time and a dramatic and complete shift from its predecessor experience, ‘The Wii U.’ Not only commercially has the ‘Switch’ achieved; critics and fans are giving high praise to all aspects of the system.

I have owned a ‘Switch’ from launch and I personally think it might be able in bringing in a Nintendo renaissance. Where ‘Wii U’ failed, the switch has adapted. The name is individual and notably different from previous or other consoles making it extremely marketable. The hybrid nature of the system, being both handheld and a home console is quite versatile and can appeal to many types of gamer and or customers. It also gives the console a unique selling point. The Wii U had non of this.

The launch games in general where solid with the likes of ‘Bomberman R’ and ‘1 2 Switch’ being quite cool and fun. The key however was the best version yet of ‘The Legend of Zelda’, ‘Breath of the Wild’. A game so wildly touted for its epic scale some even mention it being the greatest video game of all time. It is certainly one of the top games I have ever played or experienced. This Zelda hype brought early momentum for Nintendo and the switch and is today the most sold game on the switch.

Nintendo carefully planned and played with this momentum releasing ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ soon after launch. This was a stella WII U game and now the Deluxe version is on the switch with all the DLC on it + more- brilliant happy and psychedelic is what comes to mind when I play it. ‘Splatoon 2’ and ‘Arms’ were both first party Nintendo Switch games with high critical praise which actually translated into decent sales for Nintendo and created various online cults for each game. ‘Splatoon 2’ was a mega hit in Japan, and for a first iteration of a new proposed first party Nintendo game ‘Arms’ did well. This all added to the switch’s selling snowballing journey.

Another key to the sales, is the release of ‘Super Mario Odyssey’ in October – another 10/10 game across the board. This game was only on Switch and brought loads of people out of the wood work buying Switches. This rejuvenated Switch appeal and sales and I am not surprised why – its killer great and the Nintendo icon is back donning the videogaming paradigm.  The WII U had some great first party games which were not played by the numbers they deserved because of the bad marketing and negatives of the WII U console. Not only this but the WII U had barely any 3rd party games on the system. The switch has changed that already. ‘Doom’ and ‘Skyrim’ from Bethesda are on the switch, ‘La Noire’, ‘Minecraft’ and even the new ‘Wolfenstein’ is planned for the switch. As for sports NBA game ‘2K’ is on the switch and ‘FIFA18’ is also being played on the system. More and more companies want to port or create games to the switch which will only do well.

The Nintendo online store for ‘Switch’ is fantastic and has a breadth of quirky and great games on it – from big titles like the Mario and Rabbids game produced by ubisoft to off beat indie games like ‘FAST RMX’ and ‘Snake Pass’. These early Nintendo indie games sold at a lesser price and have been received very well by a wide selection of the gaming community. All physical copy games can be brought on the Nintendo E store and saved onto the switch’s memory. More and more indie games are being released on the ‘Switch’ store as a we speak. Online play is great for games like ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ and ‘Splatoon 2’ however the lack of any credible voice chat functions needs addressing in my opinion. Online will soon not be free thus I hope the money they get from this helps Nintendo fund a better and more comprehensive online gaming experience. As for other negative points, I feel the battery life is low for handheld games but that to be the only real set back. The hardware is fab, the different ways to play using the joy cons multiple functions is a good move and the amazingly comfortable pro controller works well.

I still play my ‘Switch’ on my own, with friends, With my family, in the car, the plane or just hooked up to a TV. I love all aspects of this system and I am very hopeful for more happy months in the continuation of the ‘Switch’s’ Cannon of games and further enhancements to all areas of an already more than competent system. I already own a sizable collection of games on the system and want this to continue. Thank you Nintendo. Satoru Iwata (RIP) will be delighted and proud of Nintendo’s current situation, that I know.

You said Pokemon wasn't supposed to be played on homeconsole. You should probably have specified Gamefreak Pokemon. Have the main PM games changed much over theast few years anyway? I know that there are some new gimmicks every once in a while... but that's about it.

So I beat pokemon Shield a few days ago, allowed it to sink in, gather my thoughts about it, etc. I decided to run a nuzlocke, as blind as I could still do, and decided *not* to dynamax, because it turned the first gym into an absolute joke.  But, I am getting ahead of myself.

First things first, I had more fun with the game than I expected myself to have. Even after 8 generations, Pokémon is still Pokémon, and Pokémon is still fun. I barely registered the fact that they cut over halve of the pokedex, because they are distributed pretty good throughout the game. Imagine my shock when they even cut generation 1 pokemon? So at least they Thanos Snapped relatively fairly. That was a big concern for me, so I’m glad that didn’t hurt as much.

The towns and enviroments are bright and colorful, the creatures themselves look good on a homeconsole and I liked how they turned the gym challenges into massive sporting events, including collectible cards. That’s fantastic. The gymleaders all have interesting designs and fun personalities, and I was so happy to finally have a jerk for a rival again. I really enjoyed Bede’s little character arc. Not dynamaxing my pokemon led to some tense moments during gym battles, as they were the main source for fatalities during my nuzlocking and I lost my Rillaboom to chairman Rose, which was the closest thing I had to a personal stake in the plot.

There is a lot of things holding the game back for me however.... So much so that I don’t believe I’ll feel the need to replay it. Possibly ever. This puts Swsh in a unique category with Sun/Moon. So maybe I really have gotten too old for Pokemon. I don’t believe much in ratings, but for me it still falls on the positive end of the spectrum.... but only barely.

When trying to articulate my feelings on it to a friend, I compared it to the old pants of videogames. Comfortable and warm, something to wear during a lazy sunday at home, but not something I could in any form defend as a good pair of pants. Certainly not something I’d wear to a job interview.

And now a stream of consciousness about Sword and Shields shortcomings.

The lack of voice acting is nothing short of hilarious in cutscenes. I would have forgiven sparse voice acting, but there’s nothing. Pierce’s supposed singing, Rose introducing us to the World of Pokemon are all awkward as fuck.

We are still cool with using pokemon cries from the gameboy days? Really? 

A lot of sound design has been taken from the earliest generations and it feels like it’s taking the piss.

Why isn’t there a GTS? It was the best way to fill out the Pokedex, people asking for lvl 1 Reshirams not withstanding.

The towns look really nice, but there is nothing to do in them. This is especially true for Ballonlea, the town for the fairy gym. You pop in, fight the gym, and you pop out. I dont even think you fight a rival in there.

The wild area and max-raid battles will probably be ghost towns when gen 9 and 10 roll around, making the biggest feature very temporary.

Speaking of the Wild Area, it’s very small all things considered.... I was waiting to unlock a new Wild Area late or post game, but no, what you see is pretty much what you get. 

The pop-in in the wild area is hilariously bad. Never imagined a Snorlax could sneak up on me, but I guess pokemon SwSh proved me wrong.

The NPC trainers during Max Raid Battles should never participate in a 5 star raid ever. 

“These routes are really short”, I thought after route 3. “I hope they get a little more challenging later on”.

They don’t.

Gym Challenges with Dynamax? Lame, easy, laughable. 

Gym challenges without Dynamax? Sexy, thrilling, cool.

Anyone who didn’t use stealth rock against Leon probably doesn’t understand the mechanics of stealth rock.

Holy shit, I forgot team Yell actually existed! What was their purpose other than that of a temporary roadblock to make sure you would go the right way? I like their concept of being a cross between football hooligans and waifu-enthusiasts, but they never do anything with it.

Swordbert and Shielduard are better antagonists in the post game, and they barely do anything....... And yes, those are their names.

Hop is not as grating as Hau, but he’s up there..... I never liked overly friendly rivals, but at least he gets some mostly off-screen development.

Speaking of off-screen...... That’s where most of the plot is. There’s a giant pokemon wreaking havoc? No worries, we took care of it off-screen. Explosions near one of the biggest cities? You just worry about your gym challenge buckeroo, let the adults handle this.

Speaking of plot, what the fuck was Chairman Rose doing? I was having a good time, planning to stealth rock the champ, when he suddenly highjacks the airwaves to announce himself the surprise villain.

Like everyone had been saying since the games were announced.....

What was his plan? Something about energy and the future and wishing stars??? What?! 

Okay so..... Because he expects an energy shortage somewhere in the next 1000 years, he collected wishing stars and fed them to Eternatus because...... he could generate energy forever using them? Is that it? Am I even close?

Team Magma at least was clear on their motivation: fish bad, land good.
