Sugar, Butter and Flour - A CEO!Steve Rogers x Baker!Reader (Christmas Series) Chapter 2 ~ Little Miss Sweet Tooth

Summary: Steve Rogers is a Grinch, he pushes through the Christmas holidays with a smile for his young daughter, Sarah. The widower doesn’t enjoy the holidays and would rather focus on his work at the ‘Avengers Law Firm’ but with an upcoming ‘Christmas Wrap Party’ at the firm, his path becomes entwined with (YN) (LN), the owner of a small bakery who’s catering for the event and has managed to steal the heart of Steve’s young daughter. Will he fall for the young baker? Or will his bitterness toward the Christmas holidays and his grief keep him from finding happiness again during the ‘happiest time of the year’?

Steve’s POV

Today was a momentous occasion, Steve Rogers had a day-off. Something which Bucky always teased him about was his lack of free time. Being a working parent was something difficult to balance, especially as a single-parent, working both roles of mom and dad for Sarah. Both the disciplinarian and the fun parent, another set of dynamics to balance inside of himself. Adjusting his dressing-gown, he sat in the comfort of his couch, Sarah having not woken up yet, still tuckered out from spending yesterday out in the snow with Bucky at the park. The television softly playing reruns of Christmas films he hadn’t seen since he was growing up, a cup of coffee on the coffee-table and his phone nowhere in sight, when Steve was out of office, he tried to disengage himself as much as possible, wanting to take these days off to be with Sarah entirely.

Said phone currently on the kitchen counter alongside the remains of the doughnut which Steve had received from the baker Sarah couldn’t stop babbling about, constantly begging to go back and bake with the sweet lady who owned the bakery. Walking over to the kitchen counter, staring at the empty paper-bag which was imprinted with the logo and the address for said bakery on the somewhat crumpled paper-bag.

With the bag in hand, Steve ran his finger across the logo on the bag and hummed, an idea coming forth as he heard the padding of little feet on the floorboards up above, the soft giggling gave away that the sound wasn’t a rat but instead…

A cheeky little monkey.

Sarah was giggling and made her way down the stairs, making her way down carefully before running up to Steve “DADDYYYY!” She raced forward and came face-first into Steve’s calves and knees “Hi Sunshine.” Picking her up and placing her upon his hip “Why are you still in your sleeping clothes, Daddy? Don’t you have work?” Tilting her head up at him, Steve chuckled “Sunshine, Daddy has a day-off today to spend with you.” He lay a peck to the crown of her head gently “REALLY?!” Sarah perked up immediately and wriggled in Steve’s arms excitedly “I get to spend a WHOLE day with you?!” The deeper meaning behind those words made Steve flinch slightly, it was true that he rarely got good time alone with his daughter, today was the start of a small change he’d hoped to start making. Steve nodded “Yes Sunshine and I think I have an idea of what we could do today.” Booping his daughter on the nose gently, with his finger, his daughter doing the head-tilt thing again “How about we head to the bakery that you keep talking about?”

Sarah was bubbling with excitement “WE’RE GOING TO SEE MISS (YN)?!” She wriggled “I have to get ready! So do you Daddy!?” She squealed and rushed towards the stairs, Steve chuckling and following after his enthusiastic daughter who scrambled to her room to get changed, so he decided to follow suit and clean himself up in preparation for heading out. Changing into a simple blue shirt and trousers, not as dressed up as he usually was due to his work attire being so formal. Swiping his hair back and taming his growing facial hair, the ‘dad beard’ as Bucky called it on many occasions, staring at his reflection in the mirror, it was a stark comparison to the man who started his career all those years ago, he’d aged in those years. The tiredness which lingered under his eyes, fatigue and droning nature of meetings and writing reports.

But Sarah brought out the energy and happier side to Steve which many people at work never saw. Never saw in the same capacity that Sarah and those closest to him saw. The lighter side of Steve which had been in hiding since Peggy. A side of him he missed dearly. Today, the weight of his work was off his shoulders and all that mattered today was his little girl who he heard running up to his door. Turning on his heel, he saw his beautiful little girl waiting at his door, her soft brown eyes full of wonder and excitement about what today might hold “I’m ready Daddy!” giggling as she dressed herself with ease, becoming better at doing the buttons on her cardigans day by day. Walking over and picking her up with ease, Steve happily carried his daughter back downstairs “Let's get a few things packed with us and we can get going.” He definitely still babied Sarah, but she was his only child, his little girl.

So of course she was coddled and spoilt rotten by her father.

Steve grabbed her paw-patrol backpack for her and packed a few snacks and a juice-box inside she got hungry on the way into the city, he’d learned over the years of being a lone dad, he needed to pack for any eventuality, like the apocalypse itself would start any moment. Handing over the backpack to his daughter as well as her coat and boots, helping her tie the laces as she hadn’t gotten the knack of it.

“I wanna do my own laces but I can’t!” Sarah crossed her arms in a huff, her chubby cheeks looking even more round when she pouted her petted lips. Steve laughed and rubbed his daughter’s cheek gently “You’ll get the hang of it, Sunshine. How about I teach you a rhyme your nana taught me to help me tie my laces?” Sarah nodded excitedly and sat on her dad’s lap on the floor as he reached to guide her hands with the tricky shoelaces.

“Over, under, around and through,

Meet Mr. Bunny Rabbit, pull and through.”

Steve recited the rhyme for his daughter as he guided her little hands to tie the laces, taking his time to show her each step, finally tying the laces up and clapping his hands happily “There. And if you remember that rhyme and keep practicing, you’ll be a shoelace tying champ!” Blowing a raspberry into his daughter’s cheek as she squealed “DADDY! Your chin is scratchy!?” Pouting as Steve let out a bellowed chuckle “Oh is it now?” He did it again and rubbed his bearded chin into his daughter’s face, making her squeal even louder “DADDY!!” She wriggled in Steve’s lap as she was being tickled, a happy moment between the two. Steve laughed and looked down at his daughter “Okay I relent! Since we want to go visit your friend the baker don’t you?” He stopped tickling her as he saw her now burst into the widest of smiles “Miss (YN)?! We have to go now Daddy!” grabbing her father’s hand and trying to get him up onto his feet and drag him out the door, giving him on a few moments to grab his shoes, jacket and the 3 essentials.

Phone, keys and wallet.

Being rushed into the lift by little Sarah who was jumping up and down excitedly, the two descending in the lift from their 2 floor penthouse home, heading down to the private parking lot which contained his car and motorcycle, the latter something he hadn’t ridden on in many years, not since little Sarah’s birth. Walking up to his car, he helped Sarah into her car-seat, strapping her in before heading over to his side of the car, starting the ignition and strapping himself in. Driving out of the car park and using the GPS to direct him to the bakery.

Sarah giggled “Music, Daddy! Music-time!” She insisted, to which Steve gave in and flicked through the music stations before Sarah called out again “No Daddy! Special CD!” Steve smiled faintly, the CD she was mentioning was a CD of music from his childhood to music he and Peggy used to drive to, all the music was suitable for Sarah but some of the songs made him smile sadly as he drove, his eyes on the road as he listened solely to the sound of the GPS and Sarah’s singing, blocking out any of the songs which were too difficult to listen to. Songs which were too significant for him and the past, songs which hurt.

Soon enough after avoiding the traffic as much as he could, they turned into the street where the bakery was hidden from the main-street, immediately the atmosphere was different. The busyness of the city didn’t touch this nook, the shops were their own little community with the butchers, flower shop and of course, the bakery in questioned they’d travelled through the city to get to. Parking up beside the shop, he got out and stood on the pavement as he helped Sarah out of her car-seat and onto the ground beside him. Locking up the car and getting a ticket for parking before turning to look at the bakery which was decked out in Christmas decorations, something which made Steve grimaced slightly. Sarah was excitable and rushed up to the window “I see her! Come on Daddy!” Grabbing his hand and dragging him inside, the bell above the door ringing, notifying the owner of their arrival, whose back was turned.

“Miss (YN)!” Sarah squeaked which made the owner turn around finally, her hair dusted with flour leaving a white caste in her hair which was styled in an easy way but in a way which suited her features. Steve’s eyes locked onto her own, her cheeks tinted a faint pink “Hi there!” The woman smiled and pulled her eyes from Steve’s and looked down at Sarah “Hi again, I’m guessing this guy here is your dad huh?” Steve smiled “Steve,” he introduced himself as Sarah nodded and giggled, holding onto his hand happily “We came to see you! Daddy enjoyed his doughnut, his beard was covered in crumbs in the morning when I woke up!” Steve coughed and used his spare hand to cover his mouth and to hide his flushed cheeks “I see.” (YN) turned her eyes to look at Steve, a smile on her face “Your friend Bucky said you didn’t like sweet things so I’m glad to know you enjoyed it.” Pure joy in her eyes at the thought of people just enjoying her baking “Yes. I very much enjoyed it.” Steve ran his fingers through his beard, as if making sure there was no crumbs in it this time. (YN) smiled “So Sarah, how would you like to help me do some baking today? Only if your dad doesn’t mind of course!” Kneeling down to Sarah’s height and looking between Sarah and Steve. Sarah looked at her dad happily “Can I Daddy?! Can I Can I?!” Looking at Steve with puppy-dog eyes, and of course he gave in “Of Course that’d be alright Sunshine.”

(YN) rose to her feet and smiled, running a hand through her hair “Wanna go wash your hands and get an apron on?” Sarah nodded and followed (YN) to go wash her hand and gave her a small apron which had snowflakes on it, helping her tie the apron for her, muttering something under her breath “Over, under, around and through, Meet Mr. Bunny Rabbit, pull and through.” Sarah gasped “You know the Mr Bunny rabbit song!” turning to (YN) and rushing up to her dad “Daddy! Miss (YN) knows your Mr Bunny Rabbit song!” Steve looked up to (YN) and then to Sarah “She does eh?” (YN) smiled “I sometimes say the song when I’m tying up my apron, habits never die.” (YN)’s cheeks were flushed in embarrassment slightly as she rose back to her feet from when she was knelt down tying Sarah’s apron for her. Sarah tugged at the edge of your apron softly, pulling you from your rising embarrassment “Miss (YN), what are we going to bake?” excitement clearly spread across the little girl’s face “How about cupcakes or even fairy cakes?” Sarah squealed and nodded excitedly, bouncing up and down, ready to start baking.

Steve took a seat at a table which made (YN) raise a brow “Sitting this out eh?” cheeks still tinged faintly pink as she looked at him, Sarah distracted for a moment by the Christmas ornaments. Steve looked at the baker with an amused expression “I’m not much of a baker to be honest.” He rested back in the seat “I can cook but baking isn’t my strong-suit.” Sarah joined in “Daddy can’t bake, last time we tried to make pancakes, they were like rocks!” sending a cheeky smile to her father, standing beside (YN) who let out an uncontrollable laugh/snort.

Steve watched her snort and laugh and how she quickly contained herself and covered her mouth and nose “I’m so sorry for laughing!” The remnants of the laughter in her throat, threatening to come out again if triggered. Steve smiled faintly “She gets the humor from her uncles, they’ve teased me since college about my baking skills.” It felt like a window was being formed, a peek through into Steve’s inner self that he was letting this woman see, he didn’t know why he felt so comforted in her presence and the setting of her little bakery.

YOUR POV

As you smiled at Steve for another moment “Well maybe I can teach you a fool-proof recipe that won’t end up in disaster,” you offered, not knowing where the confidence was coming from to say this to the highly attractive man that sat down in your bakery. You think its maybe your friend Dot’s energy and behaviours rubbing off on you, god you hoped this didn’t make you look like an idiot.

Steve cracked a smile again, chuckling which made your stomach twist in a nice way, as strange as that sounded in your head. Steve smiled “I don’t think any recipe is fool-proof with me around.” his brow raised, it was almost as if a younger version of the man before you was now sat there, a shroud of shadow left him and was letting him smile. With an equal playful tone, you retorted “I like a challenge,” crossing your arms across your apron with a smile across your face “But for now, how about we start on those cupcakes?” looking over to Sarah, who was looking at the desserts cabinet, she perked up and followed you as you led her around back to the kitchen “There’s a window in the kitchen, you can sit by the window to keep an eye on her?” you offered to which Steve nodded and followed after the two of you, this was when you were reminded how tall and broad he was, not that you hadn’t noticed it when you first saw him and Sarah enter the bakery.

Entering the kitchen, you tried to quell the growing redness in your cheeks, focusing on baking with Sarah, though you felt Steve’s eyes from the window, watching as the two of you worked together to make the batter for the cupcakes. Your holiday playlist softly playing as you baked, the festive songs playing through the portable speaker you always brought into work, letting the music fills you with spirit and cheer. Sarah was perched on a stool beside you so she was level with the table, able to stir the batter and help. Her little hands dusted with flour as she helped pour in the cups of flour, her little apron dusted with flour a little which reminded you of the snow which had started to fall across the city a few days ago. With the bowl of batter, you whisk the batter till fluffy, you showed Sarah each step and smiled, even gently booping her nose with your flour covered finger, smiling as she let out a happy squeal. Taking a glance at the window for a moment, you locked eyes with Steve. His blue eyes on yours, your palms getting sweaty for a second before you pulled away from his eyes and focusing on distributing the batter into some cases.

Two trays of cupcake cases were laid out in front of you and Sarah, giving her a spoon and showing her how much batter to use in each “Should reach up to there, so they can rise and not overflow!” Like a machine, you filled your tray quickly as you were so used to the action, deciding to help Sarah “Need a little help?” seeing as the little girl’s hand was shaking as she tried to concentrate so hard on filling each case perfectly, you reached around and guided her hand “There we go! You’re doing so well with filling these, giving my best friend a run for her money!” giggling with Sarah as you helped her complete the second tray of cupcakes. Carrying the trays over to the ovens, placing them in gently to bake “We have 15 minutes to wait! Time to clean up! Everyone’s least favourite part!” Sarah just seemed excited to be in the kitchen and up for doing anything and spending time with you which made time fly so fast.

TIME SKIP ~~

Sarah had fallen asleep on the table, her little hand still grasping the bag of green icing she was using to ice her cupcake masterpiece that she’d been working on before she passed out. You smiled, looking at Steve who was watching his daughter fondly, turning back to the cupcakes you grabbed a cake-box from up front and started to fill the box with the cupcakes you and Sarah made. Sprinkles covering the table from Sarah’s excitement with decorating, you’d clean it up after you got all this sorted. Gently, you picked up Sarah, removing the icing bag from her hands and putting that on the table before you carried her out of the kitchen and out to Steve who was at his table still, two empty coffee cups which you’d made for him when Sarah was helping you clean and decorate. Her little hands reached for something to hold instead of the icing bag and wrapped her arms around your neck and entangling her fingers in your hair which made you giggle quietly. Steve smiled as you approached, rising from his seat to walk with you to the front register.

“Definitely tuckered her little self out.” Steve gently brushed his daughter’s cheek, which was dusted with flour and icing sugar, making you smile as Steve now turned to you “Thank you for this, she’s been wanting to come back here since Sam and Bucky brought her.” You nodded “I love baking with little kids, they love getting creative in the kitchen.” Steve seemed focused on your face, you blinked “what?” tilting your head to the side for a moment as you looked at him, his hand reached up to brush your cheek gently “A bit of icing sugar I think.” your face a little pink “I-I see! Happens all the time,” feeling like a nervous teenager again. Steve nodded “I could only bet,” he reached over to gently pry Sarah off of you, she clung on like a little koala as you supported her from the back and bottom “Let me fetch the cupcakes and bag them up for you!” with your now free arms, you walked back to the kitchen to get the box as Steve soothed the stirring Sarah, who was nestling her nose in her father’s neck.

You watched the little scene from the kitchen-door, smiling as Dot’s mischievous voice entered your mind, nagging you to do something. To give him your number. You knew your friend would kill you if you didn’t so as you bagged up the baked treats for the two, you suppress the voice and kept bagging everything, ignoring the nagging voice. Walking back to the register, you handed the bag over “There’s her little cupcake masterpieces,” fingertips brushing as you handed the bag to his free hand as the other arm cradled the sleeping Sarah. Steve smiled, “You really made her day. She was so excited to come here and I now understand why.” Shyly, you rubbed your clammy hands on your apron out of nerves from the compliment, you could playfully banter with him but as soon as he gave you a compliment, the shyness bubbled over completely “Well she made my day I-I mean you both made my day!” slipping up on your words slightly which made Steve chuckle “Don’t worry, I understood what you meant.” Holding Sarah close as he chatted with you “Well I suppose we’ll definitely be seeing each other at the Christmas party?” You nodded “I guessed so, your colleagues well should I say friends called her their ‘taste-tester’ so I guessed that you worked with them.” Steve nodded “Well Sam’s my employee and friend, Buck’s just a very close friend of mine.”

‘Employee?’ That meant Steve wasn’t simply a worker for the Avengers Firm, he was a big player, a boss. You simply nodded at his words “Well they were both lovely when they were here, they’ve emailed and asked about my lunch delivery service already.” Steve chuckled “Lunch delivery? You do lunch deliveries?” He questioned and walked to the door, bag of cupcakes in hand “My friend Dot and I work on deliveries, brings in more business and very popular amongst offices.” You noted as Steve hummed “I’ll have to enquire about that myself, has peaked my interest.” You bit your lip to stop it from smiling to much at this “Oh really?” You thought this may be a proposition for him wanting to see you again but you wouldn’t keep your hopes up, though you didn’t see the wedding band on his left hand, you didn’t want to overstep or assume anything especially with little Sarah. Steve with your help, opened the front door and carried Sarah and the bag over to his car, you waved from the shop window, watching as Steve put Sarah in her car-seat.

You don’t know what overtook you in the next moments but by the time Steve had put Sarah in the car with the cupcakes and was getting into the driver’s seat, you’d run out with a small bag in hand and a napkin “WAIT!! STEVE!” You rushed over to his car as he switched on the ignition, walking over to the driver side window, seeing him roll the window down, you panted softly as you held the bag out to him for him to take through the window “I-I thought you might like this… since you don’t like sweet things that much.” Cheeks tinged pink from the rush but also shyness, Steve grinned “Thank you.” You nodded and backed up as Steve drove off, you gently waved from the sidewalk. His car disappearing with sight and hoping that your inner-Dot was right when you snuck him the napkin and sweet treat, the napkin having you number scrawled on it with a few words.

As you stood pondering what you’d just done on the sidewalk, winter started to show its face once more, slowly snowflakes began to cover you as snow took over this side of the city, your hair now littered with snowflakes. Hearing you name, you saw it was Dot, who was stopping by to check in on you as she usually did during her lunch-break. You pulled away from the edge of the sidewalk and made your way over to the shop where your friend was stood, waiting for you.

The two of you heading back into the bakery, her asking immediately what you were doing standing out on the sidewalk in the softly falling snow. And you knew you couldn’t hide anything from your best-friend, so of course you spilt the beans

“So you just ran out with a cake and your number and stopped him from driving off!” Dot squealed as you nodded “Oh my god (YN)! This sounds like something out of a rom-com!” You flushed “But what if I totally misjudged it! What if he finds my number and is weirded out!” You were thinking irrationally but you were just nervous, sipping your hot chocolate which you’d made as you chatted with your best friend. Dot rolled her eyes “It’ll be okay (YN)! Stop being irrational!” She laughed “You’re a catch and if he doesn’t recognise that then jokes on him! But I have a good feeling he has.” Smiling into her mocha as you chatted about Steve. And as if almost teasing you, your phone went off, it was placed by the register.

Quickly, you scuttled to the register before Dot could, she was nagging you and wanted to see if it was Steve who’d texted you “Come on! You’re killing me! Is it Steve or not!” She was squealing and desperate to find out if Steve had messaged you. Taking a deep gulp, you checked your phone to see a message from an unknown number and checked your text messages, deep down hoping it was Steve.

Your face went bright red as you looked at the message, it was Steve. You let out a squeal which you’d been holding in, feeling like a teenage girl all over again. The flurry of emotions taking over. Dot took that as a yes to it being Steve and scrambled over to see what he messaged, reading it “Holy Shit! He’s definitely into you!” Dot squealed with you, you just stared and bite your lip. Dot shook you “Message him back Woman!!!” laughing as you nodded “Okay Okay I will!” Pulling away from Dot as you began to message him back, putting him in your contacts.

Something was blossoming in this cold December afternoon in New York and you hoped deep down it was something that would grow, like snowdrops growing in the coldest of winter, during this most wonderful time of the year. And you hoped that Steve could feel it too.

A/N: This is my entry for @softhairbarnes' writing challenge! I’m so excited to have participated and can’t wait to read the other entries. I hope you guys enjoy and feedback is appreciated! This is the first story I’ve written -and completed- in quite some time! I’m proud of it. I don't know how to do the Keep Reading tab, sorry. If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated. //Reposted to tag host of the writing challenge!//

Summary: Reader gets sent on an un-knowingly false mission. When they return, Tony sends them on a wild goose chase before they get to settle down and actually start to unwind with their Avenger family.

Looks like we made it

Look how far we've come my baby

Six weeks. Six weeks spent in Bahrain just to find out that the drug and human trafficking ring were non existent and just rumors of the military in an attempt to draw out the buyers. It was infuriating enough to be sent on the recon mission alone, but to have no communication with your team back home, well it rubbed you the wrong way.

You give an annoyed growl at the thought as you pack your suitcase.

“I think I’m gonna kill Tony when I get back,” you murmur to the open air. You had been lucky enough to snag a room at the NGIS building on base, paid for courtesy of Tony Stark. “I can’t wait to get back to my baby,” you add as the thought crosses your mind. A smile adorns your face as you sling your duffel bag onto your shoulder and make your way to the check out desk; the mere thoughts of holding him clears any and all negativity.

I forgot how much I absolutely LOATHE airports.

The check in line is backed out the door (thankfully you were already checked in) and there’s luggage everywhere. Security was packed as always, even for such an mid Saturday morning flight and the walk to the terminal had been pretty long too.

Why couldn’t I have a quinjet again? Ugh… You try to focus on the positive things and pop in your ear buds, setting your music to shuffle.

I’ll be home soon. I can beat up Tony soon. I can take a week off. I can sleep in my own bed. I can ask Sam for his bomb-ass waffles. Ahh, movie night with the team! I wonder who I can convince to make a blanket fort with me this time. Clint did last time, so I won’t bug him again, unless he offers then all bets are off.

Yep. The positive things, like a blanket fort. Who said you had to grow up just because you’re over the age of eighteen? Because you are an avenger or S.H.I.E.L.D. agent? Bitter adults unhappy with their life choices, that’s who. Best to not be like them.

You look at your ticket, tilt your head up just a bit, and count the people in line waiting to board the same plane. Nine people in front, many more behind, most with small toddlers or babies. A few not-quite-toddlers but not adolescents are here too.

Unaccompanied.

Crowded plane. Noisy kids. Body heat. Body odor.

You don’t know which is worse, honestly. They are all pretty bad. With a sigh you settle into the aisle seat, glad your seat-mates happen to be a quiet couple. In their late twenties most likely. You close your eyes, put your headphones back in to ignore the flight safety brief -something you knew by repetition-, and smile to yourself as you reminisce while your playlist shuffles some rock songs from the ‘80s before switching to some late ‘90s country. You subtly nod along to the beat, foot tapping softly, and you silently sing along to Kenny Chesney.

“Y/n! You and (S/o/n) look so cute! How could you not tell us you two were together?!” Your friends swarmed and congratulated you.

“We just wanted to try first, see if it went anywhere.” It was a shy admittance, more for them or yourself, you weren’t sure. You glanced over at your significant other. They had been dragged away by your family. It was a family barbecue after all. You should have known it would happen. They met your eyes as you shared uneasy and apologetic glances respectively.

Your friends would wait until your family approved before they’d all have a go at interrogation before they gave their approval. You rolled your eyes at the small group. They were extra sometimes, but they were your family. Blood or not you knew they’d have your back in an instant.

The relationship only lasted a short while but it had been nice. The two of you broke it off mutually and agreed to always be there for the other. You still loved them regardless.

Time passed and things changed. People came and went from your life, some good, others not so much. There was one who was there to stay forever though. You wouldn’t change anything for the world and you hoped he knew it. He meant the world to you. Some of your friends said he was a mistake and would ruin your life. You chose not to listen. How could he when he was the reason you could smile again?

Most of your friends had left, their lives pulling them in different directions. Some to college, others to military, some even settled down and got married. Family became distant with the exception of your parents and siblings.

You got a call asking you to come to a coffee shop, him included, for a job interview. Although you had been skeptical, your parents convinced you to go. How bad could it have been if they were inviting him too? How often does that happen, they had asked.

Fury had been intimidating at first glance. Then you noticed he had a cat with him. The cat, he called Goose, took high interest in you and him. You’d laughed before giving Fury your attention, though you watched Goose sniff at the male beside you then purr and curl up in his lap. His smile was contagious as he beamed at you.

After leaving the strange interview, you went home. Though the thoughts of what the “Avengers Initiative” was, really left an itch. An itch you just had to scratch.

Curious as you were, you had no intention on meeting with Fury again. He made you uneasy, although not in a bad way. You just knew something was off and knew he wouldn’t say unless you agreed. But you could try and find the answer on your own anyway.

Fury proved you wrong in seeing him when he slipped you an invitation a few weeks later for a party. It had been a brief meeting. A run in at the grocery store. The address was to a nice place in New York. Your love agreed to go with you on the promise of exploring the city after the party. After all, a trip to New York from Colorado was a trip to remember.

You drove instead of flew. It took a day and a half to reach the destination. Traffic hadn’t been bad until New York itself. But you had planned to be there a few days early to explore before the party. Your love had agreed to the change of schedule and made a list of things he wanted to see and do. Coney Island was at the top of the list.

It was always hard to leave when you went on missions. He missed you and you him, but you know why you did it. You worked as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent now. Fury had seen the spark in you that you had tried to bury long ago.

Consider the itch, scratched.

You were called by Fury as you were getting out of a bath. Your boss wanted to show you something. He wouldn’t say what, only that an Agent by the name of Coulson would be picking you up in the morning. When you told him, his smile and excitement couldn’t be contained at the thought of you working with elite agents.

That was three years ago.

Your eyes snap open as the shift in speed jostles you awake. With a frown and a yawn you look out the window to see the familiar layout of the LAX airport. Shooting a message to Tony to let him know you made it, you start to gather your trash and lone duffle from under the seat in front of you.

Kinda wish I would have bought one of those suits or something while I was there. At least have something to show for my half year work-cation. At least I will be able to say I’ve traveled outside the states, even if it was for work.

Tony’s reply is lightning fast, something about a surprise pick up waiting for you. You roll your eyes at the million thoughts running through your mind as you debark slowly. The exit seems like forever as you wait for the people in front of you to creep forward only to stop after eight steps. Everyone is shuffling awkwardly and trying not to hit someone else; stopping for others to slide out or get their bags from the over head storage.

Finally, oh my gosh. That took FOREVER.

You make a face at yourself.

Yikes. Guess Tony really has sugar-daddied us. Yeesh. I guess I owe him a thank you. Nah. He made me fly commercial.

You snort at your inner rambling and almost miss the female yelling at you.

“Y/n!”

Your head snaps to the familiar voice and you can’t help the grin even if you want to, arms open as she meets you halfway and you both squeeze tight. Unconsciously you place a kiss on the top of her head as she laughs against you.

“My brother and I have been waiting for you! Come on! We have such a long trip back, even with our jet. We can catch up over some real food first,” she explains quickly and pulls you out of the terminal and to the arrivals pick up.

“Shuri! Calm down. I’m not going anywhere, you can let go of my arm,” you laugh and rest a hand over hers and she relaxes her grip a little. She gives a smile and nods.

“Sorry. I’m just excited! There’s still more!” She squeals and points to the car that’s pulling up. You raise a brow but smirk as the too-dark tinted window of the limo rolls down to reveal T’Challa in the backseat.

“Hello, King Panther,” you tease and slide in beside Shuri. He rolls his eyes playfully but leans over his sister for a partial hug regardless.

Breakfast at Waffle House comes and goes all too soon; with no calls or messages from Tony other than a brief text saying he’d see you in several hours, you get anxious. None of the others had messaged you and you wonder if they’re on missions or maybe are on their way back too. T’Challa and Shuri do a good job of distracting you on the plane to New York.

When the young princess goes to check on her brother, you take advantage of her absence and put her side of the bench seat to good use. You sprawl out with a yawn and smile up at T’Challa as he walks back. He takes in your posture and can’t help when his lips twitch up.

“You look comfortable,” he comments and lifts your legs to take the seat. He lays them over his lap and pats your shins in good spirit. “I’m sorry we did not think to bring a pillow or blankets with us.”

“It’s fine. It’s not like the jet has freezing a/c and I have a hoodie in my bag if I really need it. So far the sweatpants and T-shirt are keeping my temperature balanced. Besides, I could just cuddle the great Black Panther if I get cold,” you jest, eyes gleaming with mischief. He eyes you warily, wondering if you are actually going to pounce on him. You smirk and tilt your head before shaking it at him, answering his unasked question.

“Did my sister tell you there are more surprises for you?”

“After being picked up and private jetted to New York after some good home-feeling breakfast, I honestly don’t know what could be better,” you admit with a thoughtful look. His deep brown eyes meet your gaze and you grin. He lets out a chuckle as you squirm and pull your legs from his lap and pull your bag into your own lap and unzip it as he talks.

“Oh but I think Tony has more planned than he let us in on. You know how he likes to party,” he reminds and you pause in your rifling to glance at him with a grimace.

“That’s one thing I didn’t miss. All his damn parties and charity balls and galas and whatever else he calls them,” you mutter, toss aforementioned hoodie over your shoulder, and zip your dufflebag closed again. You retrieve the article of clothing and sit by T’Challa before leaning against his side. He glances at it but doesn’t say anything when you use it as a pillow.

The silence is comforting to say the least.

You don’t remember falling asleep but the hushed tones and loud shush-ing brings you out of your peaceful nap. You immediately glance up from where you had, probably, fallen along the seats. Your eyes meet familiar, warm brown ones and the twinkle in them doesn’t go unnoticed. Neither does the soft strokes against your scalp.

Is it improper to fall asleep in a King’s lap? Oops, oh well. Too late now. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission anyway.

“You could have woken me up, T’Challa,” you yawn, stretch, and sit up in your seat.

“You looked like you needed it. Besides, Shuri was just telling me about a new project she’s working on and would like your opinion on it,” he shrugs. His sister shoots him a glare but beams when she turns her gaze turns to you.

“So you need a new weapon right? I was thinking we could make something small like a gun, or whatever you prefer, and kind of do how I did with his suit. Put the technology in a bracelet or watch or something for you so you can be armed and no one is the wiser. I spitballed the idea with Tony and he agreed it would be cool. He’s actually working on an AI for you as we speak.” She rambles as you watch her rock back and forth on her feet in excitement.

You can’t help but smile at her enthusiasm. She is like a little sister to you, just how Peter’s like a younger brother. They’re both so beyond their years that you can only pray and hope they stay safe and innocent forever, though you know it won’t happen, you still hope. She grins at the affirmation you give and punches the air.

It was only another ten minutes before you were bouncing on your own feet, standing behind T’Challa as he lands the jet at the compound. Your nerves kick in as the door opens and ramp lowers.

You’re home. After six long months. You are home.

People always asked why you never date, when there were so many eligible candidates for you to chose from. Especially with your new job alongside the Avengers.

You would always answer the same. ‘I have someone who has already stolen my heart, why do I need another who might break it?’

He was the one who was always there for you. He had been for the longest time. He was the one you hope would always need and want you.

It was nice to be needed. It made you feel complete. Whenever you felt lonely and hopeless you would just remember he was there, waiting for you to come home to him.

He never let you down and always seemed to know when something was bothering you or if you needed hugs and cuddles. You missed him so much when you were away and you loved him so.

You just hope he never forgets it and never takes your for granted.

You don’t even have time to register who jumps you, but that doesn’t stop you from wrapping your arms around them and stumbling back to steady yourself. Bubbly laughter pulls your gaze to them and you smile brightly down at Wanda. She’s got her arms wound about your neck, hugging you tight.

“Hello to you too,” you chuckle and rub her back while she mutters something incoherent into your neck.

“Y/n! You won’t believe what I did while you were gone! There so much that’s happened! Tony’s got a plan to have a party tonight for your return-” she drops from her hold on you and shakes her head at your ringing phone, pouting.

“Tony? What’s up?” You give an apologetic look to Wanda as said billionaire strolls out the front doors of the compound and ends the call without answering you. You refrain from rolling your eyes and move into his welcoming arms. “How rude. Call me then not even answer and hang up.”

“I didn’t realize you were here already. Do you think you could go pick up Peter? I know Queens is a bit of a drive but,” he holds up a small access card, “your choice of ride if you say yes.”

“Bribery won’t work on Y/n, Tony. You know that,” Shuri chides.

“He doesn’t know I’m back, does he?” You inquire and snatch the card from Tony before he can decide giving you open freedom to his cars is a bad idea. With a shake of his head in response, you start walking to the garage with the others trailing behind.

“I might have told him I’d be by to pick him up for a Spider-Man thing this afternoon. Lunch is on me too. Wherever you want,” Tony bribes and offers you a small, plastic card with his name on it. It’s a deep, bright blue color and doesn’t look to have been used.

“You sure you want to give me that? I can make you regret it you know,” you tease and grab the card from him, slipping it into your pocket for safe keeping. The fear and slight panic that crosses his face causes you, Shuri, and Wanda to break out into laughter and T’Challa to grin.

You glance at the facility before giving a small nod, a mental pep gesture or yourself, and turn to face the quad following. They all give you reassuring smiles and await your response patiently. Well, except Tony, who keeps fiddling with his watch.

“Right, well, Friday will be available in the car for directions if you need them. It’s something I’ve added to all my vehicles since you’ve been gone,” he clears his throat and changes the subject.

Smooth, Tony. What are you hiding?

You give him a curious brow raise but he waves you off and ushers you into the garage and over to his line of expensive cars.

“Keys are all here,” Tony opens a lock box on the wall to reveal rows upon rows of various keys, “they’re numbered like the vehicles. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to call Pepper and Happy and let them know that there is a slight change of plans since you’re picking up Parker.” And just like that, Tony leaves you with your friends.

“I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that very few of y’all knew I was coming back today. Wanda, think you can do some snooping and see what our hot-shot billionaire is hiding from us?” You inquire and run your hand over the keys until they stop on the third row down, seventh from you.

“I can come with if you want company,” offers Shuri after a glance at her brother. They share a silent sibling argument and you chuckle at them, wishing you had a sibling to be best friends with.

“It’s alright. You guys go relax. I guess I’m going to surprise Pete at school and bring him back. See if y’all can convince the playboy billionaire to get Mexican or Shawarma for dinner?” You inquire as you snag the key from the hook labeled “23”.

“That can easily be arranged,” Wanda grins and motions for Shuri and T’Challa to follow her back into the lounge area of the facility. You nod and give a small wave as they disappear inside. A smirk splits your face and you make a beeline for the car.

“Friday, can you play “Backstreet’s Back” please? And crank it up loud?” You request, windows rolling down while you slow to a stop out front of the school.

“Of course, (title) (Y/n),” the disembodied voice -you so dearly missed- sounds almost pleased to be of service. You smile, pat the dash, climb out, and walk to the passenger side where you lean on the front, patiently waiting for the bell to ring. When it does, you scan the crowd of people, searching for the few familiar ones.

“Peter! You’re coming to practice tomorrow right? We could really use you on the decathlon team this year,” MJ calls from behind the young avenger.

He looks up from his phone, a text from Tony mentioning he needs to come over right away and Happy had an appointment so someone else was picking him up, and nods back at her, lips curling up in a bright smile.

“Yeah. Text me the info and I’ll be there!” He agrees. Ned smacks Peter’s arm and gasps, pointing to the parking lot where you are. MJ, having joined Ned and Peter, nudges the latter with a smile of her own.

“Maybe you can skip the first one,” she proposes. When he doesn’t answer, mostly due to shock, she takes his silence for her answer.

“BACKSTREET’S BACK, ALRIGHT!”

“Haha! Okay, Friday, you can turn it down now. I have their attention. Thank you,” you laugh at the faces of your unofficially adopted kids as the music lowers drastically.

Peter nearly drops his phone, recognition flickering in his eyes, as he breaks from his friends in a sprint, reaching you in seconds. Much like Wanda, he throws himself at you. This time you’re ready for the impact of a human and wrap him up tight.

“What?! How?! When did you get back?! You’ve been gone for months!” He shrieks; he pulls away and sends a quick glance to his friends who are standing nearby. They have matching grins on their faces, almost as if they knew you would be picking him up.

“I know. Tony flew me in. I think I spent at least a full day flying,” you explain. Letting him go, you move around the car to the driver’s side. “Come on. I think Wanda got Tony to buy dinner. He owes me anyway for making me fly economy after being on that fake mission for half a year.”

“Yeah that’s a valid point. I see Mr. Stark also let you borrow one of his cars,” he quips, eyes scanning the blue Audi R8 spyder. He says goodbye to his friends and ducks into the passenger seat, you in the drivers.

The ride back contains playful banter and generalities; simple conversations about school, missions, and flights are tossed back and forth. You lean back in the seat, content and more than happy to be back. Beside you, Peter glances at his phone at the silent message from MJ.

Enjoy the weekend, don’t worry about the decathlon meeting this weekend. We have plenty of sessions later in the semester you can come too.

No one is found when you get back. Everyone seems to have abandoned the facility. Peter frowns at the lack of people and the uneasy feeling he’s getting. He fidgets and tilts his head.

“My spidey-sense isn’t alerting me to anything. So I don’t think anyone is in trouble, that’s good,” he utters and his eyes sweep through the common area. They stop on a small mess on the coffee table to their right. He walks over to investigate and huffs at the realization.

It’s a note, addressed to you, stating that the girls (Pepper, Wanda, Nat, and Shuri) have gone to the mall to pick up pretzels for you; the guys (T’Challa and himself since everyone else happened to be on missions) went to get actual food. It was a surprise but it was one of your favorite places to eat. Tony had signed it and added two hearts interwoven after his signature.

Sappy dork.

“Mr. Stark just sent word that traffic is bad and that it might be awhile before they get back. Would you like to watch a movie while you wait?”

The disembodied voice of Friday makes you and Peter jump at the sudden break in silence. You glance at each other and nod, taking deep breaths to calm down. He recovers only just before you and picks up the note that he dropped when startled.

“Tell him bullshit; I was just driving through it. But thanks, Friday. I think I’ll go get a shower instead. Pete, you have a room here right?” When he nods you motion at him. “Go change and get comfortable then. I have a feeling that we’re going to have a long wait ahead of us. We can catch up and start a Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit marathon.”

The way his eyes immediately brighten at the mention of a dorky movie marathon pulls a laugh from you. He looks so much like a kid in a candy store that you can’t help but instigate his childish side. Mischief makes itself known in your own eyes as you turn toward your old room, vacant for half a year.

The joy from thoughts of watching some of your favorite movies with your half-sibling-half-adopted-son gets doused the moment you step out of the shower. You button your jeans and grab your shirt from the bed and slip it over your head, hair still slightly damp.

“Mx. (Y/n)?”

“What’s up, Friday?”

“Pepper regrets to ask, but wants to know if you can check in on a couple of new Avengers in safe houses? She says that you might know one of them? Doctor Stephen Strange?”

“Yeah, he’s an old, uhh, an old study buddy from college,” you shrug. A sigh passes your lips as you purse them, pinching the bridge of your nose. “I don’t even wanna know what kind of trouble he is in to be in a safe house. Who else?”

“A cat named Goose; according to Tony it’s Nick Fury’s cat and someone needs to make sure there’s still food and water out. The other is a former CIA agent; she helped Steve rescue Bucky, Sharon Carter. I can have everything sent to your phone if you’d like?”

“Yeah that’s fine.”

You nod to the intelligence before pausing, head tilted slightly to the left.

I wonder…

You glance up at your tv and then to the ceiling.

“Hey, Friday, I know you’re an Artificial Intelligence, but did Tony make it so you can see what we’re doing? Or I guess, respond to certain sounds or video waves? Does that make sense? Like, do you have a sense or some kind of knowledge of the actions or activities that any one person happens to be doing when you talk to them?” You ramble as you try to find the right words to make coherent sentences. There’s a bit of a pause on the AI’s end while you wait for an answer with baited breath.

“Yes and no. While I am not human and cannot deduce anything myself, Mr. Stark programmed a way for me to tell if someone is busy, for instance in the shower or bath; if two people are fondue-ing, as Mr. Stark says Steve calls it; or if someone is asleep.”

You scrunch your nose at the mention of fondue, not keen on knowing that you had been watched; even if it was by an artificial creation. You huff, grab your phone, and make your way to the living room where Peter is waiting.

“Sup, Kid? I guess I gotta go check in on some people in safe houses, want to come with?” You offer and watch as he shifts almost anxiously on the couch. You note he changed into some sweatpants and a hoodie.

“Umm, no. I’ll stay here and get everything set up for when you come back. It shouldn’t take too long, right?” He politely declines but sends a small, reassuring smile your way. You give him one in return and pick up the keys as you head out.

“Text me if you need anything or if something happens,” you call over your shoulder and pause at the door. Something didn’t seem to be adding up but you didn’t want to press Tony. You just assume that he is planning a big party like he had for your birthday. Peter’s voice is muffled by the distance but you hear the sarcastic, playful ‘yes, Mom’ of his response.

You stopped by Sharon’s safehouse first. She’s in one just a few blocks away and answered only when Friday gave her word. You end up staying for an hour and some change when she ensnares you with talk of Steve; what could you say, you are a sucker for gossip. Especially if the stories are of old friends.

From there you go to Fury’s safehouse and are greeted with a happily purring cat. Your lips twitch up when you bend down and pet the adorable tom cat. He curls around your legs and you click your tongue. He follows, jumps onto the counter, and meows at you while you work on opening the new bag of food for him. You decide to spend an hour with the cat, if only to make sure he ate and give you time to clean out his litter box. Anywhere you move, Goose follows. You begin to question if he knows that you are there to help him. You don’t mind the company and you have a text saved as a draft, asking if you can keep Goose or at least cat-sit for Fury. You might have froze the last second before pressing the send button, deciding it was better to ask in person; though it didn’t stop you from thinking of cat-napping the poor, isolated baby.

Leaving Goose the cat at the safe house is harder than you expected. You have to promise him that you will be back with treats in a few days before he stops blocking your path and trying to trip you up. You smile, say goodbye to him, and leave with full intent on keeping your promise to him.

After dislodging yourself from the house full of happy memories, you have Friday send Tony a message saying you’re finishing up the check-in with the doctor. No more than a minute goes by before your phone goes off, signaling a call. You answer with a smirk.

“‘Bout damn time, you asshat. Sharon’s good albeit a little lonely. You should help a girl out,” you chastise. You can hear his smirk when he replies, something about you needing to help the doctor and get back to the compound since they were there with food. You can hear people in the background and sounds from the tv.

“Just hurry up and get here before your food gets cold,” he sasses and you chuckle at him before agreeing and hanging up. The drive to Stephen Strange’s house takes the longest. Granted it’s only ten miles more, but it’s the farthest from the new facility. Between your driving and the car you borrowed from Tony, you make it to the last location in record time.

Strange is standing on the porch when you exit the car. He’s grinning ear to ear as you approach and you halt any forward movement. His eyes glint with secrets and you slowly approach him warily. He grins and opens his arms for a hug before pulling you into the house. You scan your new surroundings with wide eyes and gasp audibly when you see his red cape sitting on a chair. The fabric raises a corner and waves as you pass. You nod and give a small wave back, completely at a loss for words at how much your old college friend has changed.

“So why exactly do I need to check up on you? You’re a whole grown-ass man,” you tease and lean on the door frame between the kitchen and living room. He smiles, holds out a cup of tea, and motions for you to sit. Glancing around, you take a seat on one of the recliners and pat the open seat next to you when Stephen shoos his cape out of it’s spot. It gratefully accepts the position beside you.

“It’s not that I need you to check up on me, but more that I need to keep you distracted,” he gives you a Cheshire Cat grin. Your eyes bulge out and you jump to your feet, tea abandoned on the side table.

“I swear to fuck-- you and Tony are in cahoots aren’t you!” you accuse with a growl. The cape floats behind you, sides folding and raising like hands resting on hips. Stephen barks out a laugh and you catch a faint orange glow before he disappears.

“Just get back to the new compound and you’ll see what awaits you,” Strange’s disembodied voice rings in your ears. The cape follows you, much like a stray dog you think as you search for the keys in a frenzy.

It had taken you nearly an hour to get the keys. Every time you would spot them, they’d ‘mysteriously’ disappear and reappear elsewhere in the house. You finally got fed up and yelled at the cape to help. It managed to snatch the keys before they moved again and it dropped them in your hands.

The lights were dim and Friday had stopped answering your questions; even Tony, Pepper, and Peter wouldn’t answer their phones. The cape drapes over your shoulders as you wander the seemingly empty halls of the compound.

Faint blue-glow illuminates the walls ahead and you follow it until the familiar sounds of Hercules fills your ears. You peak around the corner and freeze. Your eyes widen at the sight; blanket pallets scattered about the living room floor, furniture pushed aside; a blanket fort partial caved in on one side.

Natasha and Bruce are curled up on the couch, both asleep and snoring softly. Clint is curled up half in and half out of the collapsing fort. Steve, Bucky, and Sam are slumped against each other, looking as content as they’ve ever been together. Tony is stretched out on one side of one of the L-shaped couches, Pepper curled with him, their hands intertwined; Wanda and Vision are in a similar position on the other side of the same couch as Iron-Man and his wife. Stephen is leaning against the couch by Tony and Pepper, head rolled to the side as he slept. T’Challa is in a recliner, soft snores coming from him.

Movement draws your eyes to the bean bag pillow where Peter is unconscious and holding onto said moving thing. Shuri is leaning against his shoulder, breathing even as she slept. The blankets fall away from the youngest Avengers and a four year old pops up from Peter’s lap. Big brown eyes lock with your own eyes and a grin breaks out across his face. You quickly bring a finger up to your lips and drop to your knees, arms opening wide, inviting the child. The Cloak of Levitation slipped from your shoulders to give you a moment with the boy.

He stumbles over the mass of tangled limbs and blankets and into your arms, eyes brimming with tears. You quietly sooth him; hands rubbing his back, as his little arms tighten around your neck and his tears stain your shirt.

“Shh, my child. It’s alright, Zaza’s here,” you whisper and hold him close. He sniffles and pushes away, hands moving up the sides of your face, resting on your cheeks. You turn your head and press kisses to his little hands and arms. “Zaza is here, you’re fine, Baby.”

“Miss Zaza. No more work?” he questions, voice innocent and quiet. You smile and nod, tearing up a little yourself. You stand with him cradled to your chest, hand firm on his back. His hands move to the collar of your shirt, twisting and playing with the hem of it.

“Yeah, Baby. No more work for awhile.”

“Pwomise?”

You can’t hold back anymore. Hot tears roll down your cheeks as he asks you to stay home with him for cuddles and a Disney movie marathon.

“Promise, my Love. No more missions or work for awhile my sweet Dax,” you concede and kiss his cheek. He giggles at the sensation and you can barely make out the soft pleas of “stop” and “Zaza tickles” from him.

Natasa glances up, eyes heavy with sleep. It takes her a minute to register what’s going on, but when she sees you with your son, she smiles. Feeling as though you were being watched, you turn and meet her gaze. A silent conversation is had between the two of you and you tip your head forward in a thank you. The assassin’s eyes close once again and Dax curls against you.

“You're still the one I love, the only one I dream of,” you softly sing and sway as you make your way up the stairs, Dax in your arms.

“You're still the one I kiss good night.” You place a kiss on your son’s head when you gently place him in the middle of your bed. He gives you a sleepy smile, eyes heavy as he tries to fight against the sleep threatening to take him.

“I'm so glad we made it, look how far we've come my baby,” you coo and climb into bed with him. He snuggles close to you, hands in little fists against his chest as he faces you.

“I love you, Zaza,” he whispers, eyes finally closed.

“I love you too, Baby. Get some sleep. I’ll be here when you wake up,” you promise and settle down for the night. You stretch out on your back and your son moves so he’s tucked into your side, head resting on your chest. You gently rub his back and continue to hum the tune of Shania Twain’s “You’re still the one” until his breathing evens out. Once you’re one hundred percent sure that he’s asleep, you let it take you as well.

Delicate // A Wanda Maximoff imagine

Day 5 Entry of WMM

A/N: This is an imagine based off of the song Delicate by Taylor Swift. There will be two more parts to this based on two other songs.

SUMMARY: Long-time friends Wanda and R fall into a whirlwind romance that they keep denying in order to save face

Wanda rushed back into her room, the blush colored robe blowing up around her calves as she headed towards her nightstand. The blue light lit up her dark room as it vibrated, she wondered who was texting her, considering the only people who had her number lived with her.

"Hey" The text simply read. Wanda's heart fluttered as she realized who sent it. It was a number she hadn't seen on her phone in a while, one that she had been dying to hear from for months.

"Hey." She shed the robe before laying on her bed, leaving the light off. She laid her phone in front of her, watching the screen. Everytime the phone vibrated, her heart beat sped up dangerously, pushing a giggly demeanor onto her face.

"WYA?" The next text read, leaving a bitter feeling in Wanda's gut. You knew she was on lockdown with a curfew, enforced by Cap and Natasha. If they found out she left the apartment she would lose all of her privileges.

"At home. You?" She texted back after erasing the snarky message that said, 'I'm sure you could guess."

"Dive bar on the east side. Can you sneak out for the night?" Wanda sighed, glancing down at her night clothes, a plain grey tankop and black shorts. She had just finished washing her make up off. On one hand, she did want to see you. She hadn't seen you in months, since the Avengers split up. You went down south and Wanda stayed with Steve. It wasn't often that you came back to New York.

"What are you doing in the city?"

"I'm here for the engagement party." Before she could reply she got another text. "Pepper's, to Tony." Something about that felt off, knowing that after everything he had done, to Clint, to Steve, to herself, that you could go back to them and act like their best friend.

"What are you doing in a bar?" Wanda shot back, you despised bars and the intimacy of them, how someone across the room could hear you talking to the person beside you.

"Dancing on tables, body shots, kissing the bartender. You should come on out, its a blast." She giggled and shook her head, getting the message. Clubs always were more the scene you enjoyed on those rare nights off.

"Why do you want me to join you?" She asked, knowing you knew she hated crowds.

"Cause I liiiiiiiike you." Wanda paled, her heart stopped as she read the message. She broke out in giggles as she shook her head, telling herself she couldn't think too far into it, you were probably drunk.

"I'm in bed already."

"Its just one night."

But Wanda knew if she left tonight, it could go horribly wrong. People could recognize her, word would get back to Steve. If he found out Wanda betrayed his trust, he would put her on complete lockdown. That is, after the horrible public backlash of the Scarlet Witch being seen in a Manhattan night club after breaking three federal laws and destroying a town in Africa.

'Local mass murder seen partying' the headlines would read. 'Scarlet Witch feels no guilt as she dances amongs NY elite'. Wanda was public enemy number one right now, she couldn't even leave her apartment without fear of being mobbed, of even one child seeing her behind the sunglasses or under the sun hat and pointing, crying out, 'mommy look!'

"I can't. People will notice me."

"Come on, you can meet me in the back. Just think of the fun things we could do." Wanda knew you would have an answer for whatever she through at you.

Wanda took a minute to calculate how she would sneak out of the apartment without waking anyone up. "I'll be there." She decided last minute and jumped up to go change before she could change her mind.

At the club, you pushed your way through the crowd, making your way to the hall. You passed the group of girls leaving the bathroom, one girl's gaze lingered on you, almost like she recognized you. You stared back as you passed, wondering if she did, daring her to say something.

You waited outside in the dark alley for about 15 minutes before you heard footsteps. You threw your arms around the tall woman in a tight hug before stepping back.

"Look at you." You teased, running your eyes over her. Dark jeans and Nikes wasn't an outift she usually wore, but wow it was your favorite look. She had her hair up in a ponytail and dyed a color you never imagined she would try; A very light red, almost pinkish tint.

"Do I look alright?" She asked, an uncomfortable lilt to her words.

"You look stunning. I love what you did with your hair. What, uh, what happened to your accent?"

"We decided it would be best if I lost it ." Wanda explained. You crinkled your nose up and shook your head.

"I love your accent." You told her as you grabbed her hand and dragged her towards the club. She follow close behind you through the crowd, keeping her eyes cast on the floor, avoiding eye contact with the girls and boys dancing drunkenly.

"Last I heard, you were on the North Carolina coast playing house." You stopped walking when you reached the farthest edge of the crowd and turned to face her.

"Yeah... But I missed Pepper. She's been tryin' to get ahold of Steve by the way, to invite you all to the wedding. I wasn't sure I would be able to make it at first, I was worried Tony was going to use me coming back to his advantage, as a publicity stunt, but he offered me my old place in SoHo. And I haven't seen you in a while, you know I get just miserable if I don't see you at least once every six moths." Wanda giggled and shook her head.

Part of her wished you wouldn't talk to her like that, it did things to her, made her dizzy, made her heart leap out of her chest. It made her wonder just what you thought of her, thought you played transparent, easy to read and open, Wanda knew better, you controlled how people saw you. People interpretting you as an open book, with your candid statements and impulsive ideas made it easier to conceal even the largest secrets. She desperately wished she could read your mind, she cursed the fact that your own powers left you immune to hers.

Instead of slowing the conversation down, Wanda found herself reaching for your hand. "And how long will you be staying? Will you stay this time?"

"I can't make any promises, now can I?" You warned her before turning to the bar tender. Wanda slid up beside you.

The both of you found yourself caught up in this whirlwind. That night before you went your separate ways, Wanda caught you watching her, eyes bright, full of adoration. It scared her a bit, but excited her more. She wasn't sure if you heard her call you beautiful over the loud music as you danced together, giggling like teenagers, her hands teasing up under the edge of your dress, but it haunted her.

Flashforward a week and Wanda was laying in your bed in your third floor apartment. You had always loved Manhattan's skyline at night, you always said it was one of the most beautiful things you had seen, but now, as you watched her watch you, face flushed and dressed in wine-dark lace, you decided the the skyline wasn't that great.

As your hands ran down the insides of her thighs, she hummed, mind buzzing with so many thoughts, the loudest screaming out 'please'.

"Tell me," She started, voice low, as she took control, pushing you back on the bed. The question she asked didn't match the innocent tone of voice and the way she looked up at you with wide eyes. "Do the girls back home touch you like I do?"

It was a long night spent with hands tangled in hair, sheets barely clinging to the bed, but when you woke up you were met with the lonliest sound of her footsteps echoing on the steps outside as she rushed home. It became ritualistic, she would sneak over then leave before the sun rose, you only knew she left when you heard the front door click shut. On the nights she didn't come over, you noticed just how quiet your apartment was, just how long it seemed for five minutes to pass.

It went against everything Wanda believed in to leave without saying goodbye, she didn't want to leave you at all, in all honesty. She wanted to stay, to have breakfast made for you when you woke hours later, just for the two of you to go back to bed. But she knew if she stayed when she wanted too, it all would be harder for her when you left again. When she was watching you sleep, she pretended for a bit that neither of you had to leave, that she would still be here hours from then. Over dinner in the kitchen or shared bubble baths, reading in bed together or slow dancing in the living room, it was easy enough to get lost in the what if's and her imagination.

"What are you doing up?" Wanda asked when she walked out to the kitchen to find you sitting at the table a book in front of you. It was 4:37 am, the city was just starting to wake up.

"I couldn't sleep. Are you leaving?" You asked, knowing your answer. She nodded as she pulled her hair up in a bun.

"Yeah, I have to get back before Steve or Natasha wake up. They're already worried about me sleeping late." You nodded and smiled at her.

"Wanda..." You hesitated before speaking, her hazel eyes watched you sharply. "Stay here honey." You whispered. She smiled and stepped towards you, hand reaching for yours.

Wanda kissed you, but what she said when she pulled away, the words she whispered left you lost in the moment.

Steve knocked on her door around 10 am and told Wanda her breakfast was cold. He had a hundred questions he should have asked, but he didn't. Wanda had a stressed look on her face that Steve saw all too often, one he just didn't know how to approach.

Over breakfast, that she carried to the window seat of the living room, looking over Brooklyn, Wanda had a lot to think about, the only place she could seem to get her thoughts in line was when she was watching the people, it put things into perspective. She wondered if she stood high enough, could see your place, if she could see you looking out the window at the sun shining off of the windows of Manhattan. She wondered if she said too much, too soon. Wanda didn't want to drag you into the mess that would come with being associated with her after everything she had done, but selfishly, she wondered if you were ever dreaming of her.

When she looked into your eyes she pretended she could call you hers publicly; Hold your hand in the streets, take you out on weekend vacations or just to the farmer's market. Wanda knew it wasn't smart, but she couldn't stop herself from picturing the future she wanted so desperately to have with you, the future she had dreamed of for months before you even left.

You waited, for days for Wanda to text or call you back; She never did. Steve texted you though, one evening after you left dinner with Pepper, asking if you were back in town, and if so, had you been in contact with Wanda. You weren't going to lie to him, it's not like he expected you to come here and not see her; The two of you had been best friends since you first met after she was brought back from Sokovia. With Steve's invitation, you stood outside of Wanda's bedroom door, you knocked twice and she called 'come in' in her faux midwestern accent.

"I thought I told you how much prettier your accent is?" You asked as you stepped in the room, taking in the golden fairy lights and white tulle hanging over the bed.

She dropped the book in her hand, pen falling to the bed too. "What are you doing here?" She asked, throwing the blanket off of her knees.

"I had to see you." When she asked why, you shrugged. "I had something to tell you."

"Does Steve and Natasha know about..." Wanda trailed off, hand waving nonchalantly. You chuckled, dropping your eyes to the floor.

"I think they know we've been sneaking out, I'm not sure they know about us. From the way Steve was talking when I got here, you are in trouble but I got the brunt of it because I'm such a bad influence and all." You told her sarcastically and she laughed. "Anyway, I need you to promise to listen, to not talk until I'm done."

"Oh, I love a good monolouge." She teased. You smacked her with the pillow, giggling.

"No seriously listen, this is important." You warned her, she nodded a smile on her face, as you cleared your throat and tried to keep a straight face. "What we have, our public reputations, this friendship we've had for years, it's delicate. Isn't it?" You asked, sitting on the end of the bed.

Wanda watched you, soft eyes and a slight smile as you found you couldn't stop talking. "You're scared that what you said would ruin what we have, but I don't think it would. I mean, no matter what we do, we're dancing with our hands tied. Nothing would ever be good enough for certain people, but I like us. I love us. I love you, and I know as long as I've got you by my side I can ."

California Moves to Become ‘Sanctuary State,’ and Others Look to Follow

A 42-year-old immigrant was on her way to church in Mendota, a small city in California’s Central Valley, one afternoon last month when the police stopped her because the tinted windows on her 2006 Nissan were too dark. What happened next says much about the growing conflict between states like California and the Trump administration.

After inspecting her license, the police officer returned to the car and asked the woman, a mother of two, whether she knew that a deportation order had been issued against her. Yes, she replied, she was supposed to appear in front of an immigration judge in Texas nearly 15 years ago, but had no way of getting there.

After several minutes, the officer released her, but not before calling the federal immigration authorities. The police officer informed her that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers would come to her house. Fearing deportation to El Salvador, the woman did not return home--neighbors informed her that immigration officers appeared at her front door half an hour after she was pulled over--and she has not gone back since, one of her lawyers said.

For the Trump administration, that kind of assistance from local police officers is a model. For California lawmakers, it is the clearest evidence yet of the need to strictly curb communication between local law enforcement and federal immigration officials.

With the federal government vastly expanding who is considered a priority for deportation, the California State Senate approved a bill last week that increased protections for immigrants. The measure prohibits local law enforcement agencies from using resources to investigate, detain, report or arrest people for immigration violations.

Supporters say the law--essentially making California the country’s first “sanctuary state”--would prevent immigrants like the woman in Mendota, who faced no criminal charges, from being turned over for deportation. If approved, the law could directly contradict federal directives, putting local law enforcement agencies in the difficult position of deciding whether to obey Sacramento or Washington. Legal battles are considered likely.

“The federal government is going to have to step in and decide if this is worth a lawsuit, because I am not sure what we can do,” said Donny Youngblood, the sheriff in Kern County and the president of the California State Sheriffs’ Association, which is lobbying against the measure. “All we are doing is providing information to the federal government so that they can do their job. To restrict that doesn’t make sense.”

While California is moving more decisively and quickly than any other state, bills that restrict cooperation with immigration officials have been introduced in several legislatures throughout the country, including in Illinois, Maryland, Nevada and New York.

In Vermont last month, Gov. Phil Scott, a Republican, signed a measure that bars state and local police officers from enforcing immigration laws without his approval and prohibits the collection of personal information, including immigration status and religion, for any kind of registry that could be used by federal officials.

If enacted, the California law could have a significant effect on federal immigration enforcement--at least half of immigrants living in the United States who are deported come from local jails and prisons, experts say.

The law goes next to the Assembly, where it is expected to pass. But Gov. Jerry Brown has not indicated whether he supports it.

Lt. Kevin Smith of the Mendota police said officers routinely run the name of anyone they pull over through a national database. If they find that immigration officials are looking for the person, he said, they alert the local ICE office. He said he was unsure whether the department would change its policy if the proposed legislation were approved.

Under a state law in place since 2013, local jails in California have not complied with “detainers,” or requests from ICE to hold immigrants who could be deported.

Still, nearly every county jail allows ICE officers inside, so they can easily keep track of who is brought in and scheduled for release, comparing names and fingerprints with federal immigration databases. The new law would end that policy and would also prohibit the police from notifying ICE about anyone they pull over.

The law is intended to prevent immigrants from being deported for minor crimes, said Kevin de León, president pro tem of the California Senate and author of the legislation. “It’s the absolute height of ridiculousness that ICE would come in and just deport somebody as opposed to that person having their day in immigration court,” he said.

Opponents of the policy argue that the state will effectively force the immigration authorities to make more arrests in public, where other immigrants who have not been convicted of any crime could also be swept up.

It is still unclear how Attorney General Jeff Sessions will follow through on the administration’s threat to withhold grants from so-called sanctuary cities, let alone states.

Many states are siding with the administration and have been drafting laws requiring local governments to cooperate with ICE requests to hold inmates for deportation proceedings.

In Texas, for example, Gov. Greg Abbott has already denied state funding from any local government that does not enforce detainers. He is also pushing for a bill that would require law enforcement to comply with detainers.

California appears to be taking a page from the playbook Texas used during the Obama administration by confronting the federal government on immigration. In 2014, Texas sued to block the administration’s plans to grant temporary protection against deportation to as many as five million undocumented immigrants who met certain requirements. The state argued that the president had changed the law without proper public review. The lawsuit effectively stopped the plans.

Rick Su, a law professor at the University at Buffalo, said the lawsuit in Texas and the legislation in California were both “efforts in some ways to goad, to sort of transform the partisan battle into a state versus federal fight.”

Other states have proposed bills to limit the role local officers can play in immigration enforcement, but their path forward is uncertain.

The Eternal Quest for the Perfect Home: More Buyers Turn to Feng Shui Masters for the Answer

Chronicle grew up in a Chinese-American household that adhered to the practice of feng shui to improve the flow of positive energy in the home, but she herself didn’t know more than the basics. So when it came to the high-stress, high-stakes process of buying a new home out of state, she decided to call in the master.

The feng shui master, that is.

Pun-Yin is, by general consensus, one of the top masters and practitioners of the ancient Chinese practice in the U.S., having worked on high-profile projects, including the Trump International Hotel & Tower in New York City. (The iconic metal globe in front of the Trump building was reportedly placed there to deflect negative energy from the traffic outside, while the building’s brownish tint is supposed to absorb any additional bad vibes.)

So when Chronicle, who didn’t want her last name used, needed some good fortune and positive energy to help direct the move from a single-family home in Brooklyn to a bigger place in New Jersey for her husband, kids, and in-laws, she knew whom to hire.

“Master Pun-Yin was tremendously helpful,” says the Generation X business owner. “She would travel with us to different areas and let us know what to look for.”

When Chronicle’s family settled on a four-bedroom Colonial home in central New Jersey, Pun-Yin recommended a few key tweaks: adding a Himalayan rock lamp to create a more balanced warmth in the home and evergreens for the landscaping to strengthen the home’s energy.

“What I’ve learned is, it’s not that the house is horrible but that the feng shui may need to be improved,” Chronicle says. “There is no perfect house.”

Although feng shui originated in China about 3,000 years ago, it exerts a powerful influence on modern real estate, particularly on the higher end.

Chinese buyers, who are the largest group of foreign buyers, purchased $30.4 billion in U.S. residential real estate from April 2017 through March 2018, according to the National Association of Realtors®. That’s about 1.9% of all U.S. existing-home sales (which excludes new properties) during that time. The median price of homes bought by Chinese nationals in that time was $439,100. (Chinese investment in the U.S. has dropped recently amid a government crackdown on money leaving the country, but the long-term effects on U.S. real estate are still unknown.)

For many Chinese buyers, only a feng shui master knows a residence’s true potential for fortune, health, and happiness. Harmony can be achieved in how the home is laid out, what finishes are used, and where various pieces of furniture are placed. (Examples of bad feng shui include beds placed against the same wall as the doorway, toilet lids left open, and, well, clutter.) Experts in the practice go even deeper by using the owners’ birthdates as well as the forces of yin and yang and the five elements of the universe (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) to create a balanced environment.

Sellers use a master’s expertise to purge their homes of any lingering negative energy that’s causing deals to mysteriously fall through. Even developers consult with feng shui experts on the layout and placement of various features, to make sure their projects appeal to the widest swath of buyers.

“Especially today, when our world is so chaotic, people use feng shui to have positive energy in a home that is balanced,” says Pun-Yin, who was taught the ropes by her father, the famous feng shui master Tin-Sun.

Feng shui masters can make or break that real estate deal

So just how influential are feng shui masters when it comes to closing deals? Well, depending on the particular buyers or sellers, sometimes very.

About 86% of Chinese-American buyers plan to take it into consideration before purchasing a home, according to a 2015 survey of 500 Chinese-Americans conducted by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate and the Asian Real Estate Association of America. About 79% of those surveyed said they would pay more for a property that incorporates feng shui principles.

“I’ve seen many deals fail where the home inspection went well, the price was acceptable, the feng shui master comes in, and the buyer walks away,” says Bill Seto, president of Fultonex Realty in the heavily Asian community of Flushing, in Queens, NY.

Someone just learning about feng shui may be overwhelmed to hear the many home features that block the flow of energy, like a stove across from the sink or mixing up flooring, which can weaken a home’s strength. But few homes are truly hopeless, Pun-Yin says.

“We help to make a livable and healthier situation,” she explains. This often means trying to “elevate the home’s energy,” for example, by ensuring trees don’t block sunlight to the house or moving an improperly placed mirror in front of the entry, which can push positive energy out.

And when a home’s in tiptop, feng shui shape, it can mean more cash for sellers.

“Even if it’s more expensive, [these buyers] don’t care,” said Zhi Hai, president of the America Feng Shui Association in the New York City neighborhood of Rego Park, Queens. She also noted that feng shui is popular with many non-Asians.

What’s so special about a home with good feng shui?

For Anna, a 38-year-old Chinese-American attorney, every day spent at her family’s six-bedroom Colonial in Summit, NJ, is like being on a vacation with her husband and child.

“There’s green outside every window,” explains Anna, who also did not want her last name used. The home’s stone facade, hot tub, vaulted ceilings, and multiple skylights “is like what you would see in a ski lodge.”

The home’s positive energy is a direct result of a feng shui audit.

When it came time to buy a home after renting a two-bedroom apartment in Hoboken, NJ, Anna wasn’t taking any chances. She enlisted the help of Pun-Yin, who began by studying the family.

While a typical real estate search might start with a credit profile, Pun-Yin was looking at the couple’s birthdays and what time they were born. That helped her to determine their personal elements in order to avoid an ill-fated match.

Anna found out her element was fire, which does well when paired with the wood element, like all the trees outside their idyllic home. She and her husband scoured the internet and worked with an agent like any other buyers, but they’d also get the floor plans for any homes that had potential. With the floor plans, Pun-Yin could orientate her Chinese compass, enabling her to match the buyers’ personal elements to the layout.

“When we were ready to make an offer, she came by and talked about things that could be improved,” says Anna. For example, the nonsupporting beams over the bed in the master bedroom were considered a definite no-no. So they were eliminated.

Day 41, Toronto, 17th September

After two ‘free’ walking tours and wandering around myself I feel like I know a bit more about Toronto seeing I came here not knowing anything. Toronto is the largest Canadian city of 2.8 million people. It is the most multicultural city in the world or so the walking tour guide said. I think Sydney might dispute that but the guide himself was from Adelaide and had been here 6 years. Apparently 51% of Toronto’s population is foreign born and even out of those Canadians who live here there is not a huge percentage that were actually born in Toronto. It is a city on the move and it attracts a lot of new people. This was evident from some of the surburban areas that are called little India, Korea Town, Little Italy and the usual China Town..

Union station was built between 1914-1920 and built to impress and when Prince Edward, Prince of Wales came in 1927 to open it, with a pair of gold scissors, even he said ‘wow’ or something similar when he entered the Grand Hall.

My first walking tour of the day started in the Grand Hall of Union Station. It was the usual mix of all nationalities. Our tour guide was Tim who was in the hat. He was full of information and very entertaining.

Across from Union Station the Hotel York was built by two railway companies to provide accomodation for those travelling by train. This was a similar story for all the big hotels across Canada along the train line. The hotels are all now owned by the Fairmont company.

The hotel has been going under extensive renovations to bring it back to the grandeur of yesteryear. We had a good wander around going into a lot of areas including the ballroom etc.

The Hockey Hall of Fame. Ice hockey is huge in Canada but the Toronto Maple Leafs have not won the national competition for over 50 years which is the longest current drought in the NHL. Even with not winning the Maple Leafs are the second most valuable franchise in the NHL after the New York Rangers.

Inside, the old building has been joined to some modern buildings to make a pleasant all weather space.

More of the covered space which was designed by Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava. I thought to myself when we walked through that I recognised this form and had seen something similar. Later, when I had wifi I looked up Calatrava to realise he had designed the Oriente Train Station in Lisbon which I thought was wonderful even though that was the site of where I discovered my bag had been stolen from the bus. Also, he designed all the buildings in Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences which has very futuristic structures. And is amazing to see. I rode a bike all through this area when there last year.

The old building was heritage listed and it’s facade had been moved to this site and joined to the modern structure.

The Fairmont York hotel was the first one that came up with the idea of building a tunnel underground from the hotel to Union Station across the road. This was so their wealthy guests would not have to go out into the harsh weather, especially in winter. They also came up with the idea that if they put shops in the tunnel their guests would love it and the hotel could collect rent. Now the city has 30 kilometres of underground walkways. PATH is what it’s been called.

These walkways are great in theory but sometimes difficult to navigate. Each area under a building is privately owned but a public space. Most have food outlets and a drug store so all look very similar but there is no easy path to go north, south, west, etc. The city is trying to get better signage for easier movement. They are nice spaces and would be good for workers especially in the winter. This walkway was under the Hockey Hall of Fame complex.

Toronto, being a city that wants to make its mark on the world, has built many structures that, as the guide explained, had a ‘look at me, look at me’ factor which was quite amusing the way he explained it. In other words each building has to be a bit better or bigger than the one before or the use of world renowned architects to get people’s attention. This walkway/ entrance and the whole area of Commerce Court was designed by the same architect who designed the Pyramid at the Louve, in Paris. His name was I. M. Pei who is Chinese. And he turned 100 last year.

Derrick Hudson made the bronze sculpture entitled Tembo, Mother of Elephants in 2002 to sit in the Plaza.

Across the road from the Plaza was a very modern building built around the old Stock Exchange Building.

Further along in the financial area this buildings foyer was the one used in the TV show ‘Suits’ which I have never watched.

In this area of the city Canada’s four bank are on each corner trying to outdo each other in size. This building was the Bank of Nova Scotia and was the highest building in Canada for many years and also the highest building in the British Empire but has now been over taken by a not that nice looking building of the Bank of Montreal, BMO. All the Canadian banks have their headquarters in Toronto as the operating rules suit them better than in French Canada where French has to be the first language.

Inside the building which was meant to impress and has a Cathedral feel to it.

The Old City Hall which was the city council home from 1899 to 1966 and still remains one of the city’s prominent buildings. The clock tower was built to be just a bit taller than Big Ben in London. A competition was held for the design.

Due to the fact that the cost of the Town Hall went way over budget the architect was denied the opportunity of putting his signature on the building. The get back at the city he did put his signature on the building twice. One was by putting his initials on the building up high, NOX. If you look carefully you can see the N.

The architect also made ugly faces of the councilmen and then put his face in the middle of them looking down his nose at them.

Toronto’s new City Hall and Plaza was designed by a Finnish architect and completed in 1965. Toronto’s old Chinatown was bulldozed in the 50′s in preparation of the new civic building.

The rounded buildings have been given the nickname The Eye of the Government. The building generated widespread controversy as many felt it was too futuristic for the city.

The public space in front of the building was also part of the design and has a multiple of uses including skating in winter on the pond. Several new monuments, sculptures and others of public art have been added over the years. This was also where the first walking tour ended.

I had an hour between walking tours so had a wander further around the area as the next tour started on the steps of the Old Town Hall. Every new building has to allocate so much space to open areas and have some art which makes for some interesting spaces around the city. 15% of the city was Green space.

I meet up again with a mostly new group of people for the next tour which was going to take us more to the old part of the city. We past through Dundas Square which has been compared to a downscaled Time Square of NY.

McKenzie House which belonged to one of the first Mayors of Toronto. Tim was our guide again, from this morning’s tour. He was full of stories of corruption, death and fighting to establish Toronto. Nothing that major compared to the history of some cities in other countries.

St James Cathedral. I haven’t taken many photos of churches this trip compared to going to Europe. It’s been more about the architecture in the east now and nature in the west of Canada.

Black squirrel in St James Park. There were a number and they had very busy tails. I felt I was back on the west coast chasing wildlife as I tried to get a good photo of one of them. They were very quick.

After the second tour ended I had a bit of a look at the quaint shop in the area and then headed down towards the waterfront. Toronto is on Lake Ontario. On the waterfront is the beginning of Yonge Street which was built in 1796 to replace the native trails and has developed into the Main Street of Toronto and the first part of Highway 11 which now extends 1896 kilometres to Rainy River. Yonge St was named after British Secretary of War, Sir George Yonge, who was an expert on Roman roads.

You can walk a long distance around the lake which frames the city nicely.

More wildlife.

Boardwalk along the lake front. It was a nice area to walk along as the day was quite warm.

Back up in the city The high skyscrapers were impressive. The windows have been tinted with pure gold which is good for insulation as well as looking great.

Peak hour. People heading home from work in the direction of Union Station. Part of the BOM can be seen which is now the tallest building in Toronto. The CN Tower is higher with its communication poles etc. The CN Tower was built so high to be able to receive uninterrupted satellite transmissions.

Outside Union Station there was. Louis Vuition pop up exhihibion.

They were showing how the bags were made which is all by hand.

They had examples of some original luggage which started the brand up until today’s luggage and handbags. It was probably more aimed at the Asian tourist then locals. They are the ones that buy the bags. That’s why they have such large suitcases I think.

Even though I walked 19,000 steps today there was still a lot of Toronto I didn’t get to explore. There are some interesting neighbourhoods around the city and more. I only skimmed the surface. I don’t think there will be another time, though. Too many places yet to see and only a limited number of years in which to discover them. Off to Ottawa, tomorrow.

I got in an accident at and intersection the other day. i was heading north ready to turn west(my left) at the intersection. the other driver was heading south with her left blinker on ready to turn east (her left). so when i saw her blinker o n i figured it was safe to take my turn now. but in the middle of my turn she decides to keep going straight rather than turning left like her blinker had indicated. therefore she hit me in my rear passenger side with her front passenger side. she did not have much damage. however my car is fairly warped up in the rear end. it may even be totaled although it is drivable. i am just waiting for the appraisal right now. when we began speaking to the cop i mentioned that she had her blinker on, but she denied this. i alerted my insurance company and they filed a claim. i heard from her insurance company and they sent me to get and appraisal. i sent the accident report to the police station the rmv and my insurance yesterday.
