I got [my Höfner V3] for 19 quid in Guitar Village Shaftsbury Avenue when I was 17 in 1970. People didn't reckon it much as a guitar because then it was prog rock and everyone was doing widdly-widdly and this was a jangly-jangly sort of guitar. But it came into its own in The Cleaners From Venus!

Hofner - PRE-AMP
"... isn’t really a pedal at all, but it’s plays a very significant part in early electric guitar! This is a Hofner Pre-Amp, made in England during the 1950’s. If you were a beginner guitarist and couldn’t afford one of those new and expensive guitar amplifiers, the Hofner Pre-Amp is there to convert your (tube) Hifi Receiver or Radio console into your very own guitar amp! Just plug the banana clips into the “Phono” input and flip the switch 💥 Utilizing a Mullard OC71 germanium transistor and a very simple boost circuit, it’s no surprise that the 1960’s Dallas Rangemaster circuit is very eerily similar to that of the Hofner Pre-Amp."

Here’s a recent arrival that you may have missed. It’s a 1968 Hofner Model 459TZ Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar with a built-in fuzzbox and treble boost! Original black hard shell case. - Link in our profile. - By the late 1960's nearly everyone loved the Beatles and by extension the already iconic Beatle bass, or so Hofner reasoned. "The tremendous world-wide popularity...demanded a guitar with similar body shape, weight and playing qualities" the company announced in 1968. And when they decided to put out a guitar version, to make it even better they loaded it up with the active effects just becoming the "now" thing in 1968. A vaguely violin shaped guitar with a built-in fuzzbox? Done! How about adding a really gnarly treble boost? You got it! Who wouldn't want that in 1968 for a US list price of $395? - - - #hofnerguitars #hofner #hofner459tz #hofner459 #guitarlove #rareguitar #semihollowguitar #madeingermany #hofnerbladepickups #hofnerviolinguitar #photooftheday #the1960s (at Retrofret Vintage Guitars) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm-JJiIOVFN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

vintage boost collection
"Quite a few vintage boosts to play with here. Most are Treble Boosters, a few are combination Treble Boost and Fuzz and a couple others are just straight boost circuits. Each one is unique and brings out some of the best characteristics of the amp it’s pushing. To me the perfect overdrive tone is typically amp based and then enhanced by a good boost pedal. It doesn’t get much better than that!"

Pretty big news and all, but if you hadn't seen, they've recovered Paul McCartney's long-lost Hofner. Fair to say, the most iconic bass ever?
