Week 5 recap
Welcome back! We’ve made it to the end of our break and have moved online! I have uploaded my workbook detailing weeks 1-4 and will be continuing my work through this blog (I tried to edit the photo’s to make them as legible as possible so hopefully it’s not too painful to read). Anyway just a recap and update from my end; In terms of Hoël’s project, we managed to get a few hours of footage the same day lockdown was announced. It was quite surreal, the university was already quite barren even before the announcement. The walk home to Hataitai after finding out my afternoon class had been moved to an online discussion seemed even quieter . Only two of us showed up in the end aside from Hoël so the shoot was far more personal than what I think we all anticipated. He’s spent the last month editing his film, and is sending Jamie and I an early cut for feedback soon so that’s quite cool. He sounds happy with the results.
Aside from that I have a new piece for class, one about half done and one that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. I’m working from my backyard now, basing my paintings on what I can see from the deck and trying draw meaning from my surroundings. I was tossing up working from photographs as references to use as a synthetic element in my paintings but so far have been painting from observation, trying to loosen up my own perspective. It has been great so far but as I come up to my latest piece I feel like I’ve hit a wall with what to do with the backyard and my theme. I’m not ruling out the possibility of there being great inspiration there, I’m just struggling to see it right now. Most of the interesting trees are behind fences, and the vista that would be a hillside view of Evans bay is blocked by stacks of rooftops. We have a small pit of a lawn. I think above all I’m craving a change in scenery that’s just not possible right now.

my favorite trend in history academia is probably, “nah, they were smarter than that.”

ghost-hermione replied to your post “Hoël of Cornwall:  I’m perfectly capable of handling Nantes without...”
i think it's the first time i see the name of my city on tumblr and it is weird?? also NANTES WILL NOT BE HANDLED
funnily enough, “Nantes will not be handled,” is probably what got yelled at him right before Henry II’s little brother decked him in the face

Tired:  Hoël de Cornouaille resented Bertha taking the ducal title.
Wired:  Hoël was in on the entire plot and wanted to see his sister succeed but also desperately wanted to prove himself and get out of his sister’s shadow but also had little real-world experience in taking charge.
