a lot of the time when i think about dinluke and the dynamic that makes their relationship so special i always end up coming back to the idea of reaching out and finally having someone reach back. a call and a response. because din and like are two characters who always have a lot to lose and do- they lose those they care about time and time again. they lose battles and loves and entire planets. they call for help only to make matters worse. the win just to be alone again. and from there- from these vastly different yet achingly similar places of grief and duty they find solace in their work and religions and in the solitary paths they clear for themselves. bittersweet but not awful. fulfilling but nothing deep and exciting and worthwhile like what they once had. because there is no use in building something when chances are it will be torn down again. but then something changes. they meet and it’s not love at first sight. it’s professional, stilted conversations tinged with more pain and misunderstandings still. it’s the slow growing comfort and companionship. it’s the sudden realization that the other half of their soul has been found. that when trouble strikes, when bloodshed and battle inevitably end up on their doorstep- there will be no loss, no more choices, no leaving afterwards without the promise of coming back. just the steadfast and sure understanding that din and luke are a team. they have each other. and it’s messy and they fight and they see the world in their own ways- but it’s done together. two hands finding one another in the dark. searching and finding. an anchor. home. they hold onto each other, time and space and distance aren’t things that matter. they don’t let go.
